News: Buffalo DB Terrence Wheatley was released Monday to make room on the roster for TE Mike Caussin, who was promoted from the practice squad. Caussin gives the Bills three tight ends on the roster.
Analysis: Wheatley, in his fourth NFL season, has not played in a game for Buffalo this year. He has just four tackles in his career and should remain untouched in all Fantasy formats.
News: The Bills signed DB Terrence Wheatley on Tuesday, promoting him from the practice squad.
Analysis: Wheatley will be too low on the depth chart to matter in IDP formats. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy.
News: The Jaguars placed DB Terrence Wheatley (hamstring) on injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: Wheatley was only signed in early November after he was cut by the Patriots. He had no Fantasy value before this injury, so continue to ignore him in IDP play.
News: The Jaguars signed DB Terrence Wheatley, who was formerly of the Patriots, on Tuesday. Wheatley, a second-round pick by New England in 2008, has played in 11 games with one start. He was inactive for six games with the Patriots this season.
Analysis: Wheatley will get a good chance to start in the poor Jaguars secondary and owners in deeper IDP Fantasy leagues should keep an eye on his stats over the next couple of weeks.
News: The Boston Herald reports the Patriots cut CB Terrence Wheatley on Saturday in order to activate G Logan Mankins.
Analysis: Wheatley doesn't get enough stats when on the active roster to matter in Fantasy IDP leagues. Ignore him in all Fantasy formats.
News: The Patriots have listed the following players as inactive for Week 17 at Houston: DL Vince Wilfork, DL Ty Warren, RB Kevin Faulk, RB Laurence Maroney, DB Terrence Wheatley and DB Leigh Bodden.
Analysis: With Faulk and Maroney out, Sammy Morris will get the bulk of the carries for the Patriots. Be sure to also bench Bodden, Wilfork and Warren in deeper IDP leagues. Continue to ignore Wheatley.
News: The Patriots have listed the following players as inactive for Week 16 vs. Jacksonville: DL Vince Wilfork, DB Darius Butler, DB Terrence Wheatley, RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, DL Titus Adams and WR/3rd QB Isaiah Stanback.
Analysis: Apart from Wilfork, who has some minimal value in IDP leagues, none of these players have any real Fantasy value at this time. Continue to ignore them.
News: The following players have been listed as inactive by the Patriots for their Week 15 game at Buffalo: WR Isaiah Stanback, RB Fred Taylor, DT Vince Wilfork, DT Myron Pryor, DE Ty Warren and CB Terrence Wheatley.
Analysis: Most of these guys were declared out on Saturday, so you should already have benched them in Fantasy formats. The only ones with any real Fantasy value are Taylor and Wilfork.
News: The Patriots have announced the following players as inactive for Week 14: LB Adalius Thomas, DB Terrence Wheatley, RB Fred Taylor, DL Myron Pryor, WR Sam Aiken and DL Ron Brace.
Analysis: Thomas got in some trouble earlier this week for missing a meeting and is now clearly in Bill Belichick's dog house. Be sure to bench the LB in deeper IDP leagues. Taylor might be back soon, so continue to bench him, while Aiken has some minimal value in super-deep formats.
News: The Patriots have listed the following players as inactive for Week 13: DB Shawn Springs, DB Terrence Wheatley, DL Ron Brace, RB Fred Taylor and WR Julian Edelman.
Analysis: Taylor and Edelman are the only players in this group with any Fantasy value, so be sure to bench them in all formats. The others can continue to be ignored.
News: The Patriots have announced the inactives for their Week 7 game vs. Tampa Bay in London: WR Julian Edelman, RB Fred Taylor, CB Terrence Wheatley, RB Sammy Morris and DT Ron Brace.
Analysis: The Fantasy-viable guys in this group -- Edelman, Taylor and Morris -- were declared out earlier this week, so hopefully you already benched them. The other guys can continue to be ignored.
News: Patriots LB Adalius Thomas, RB Fred Taylor, DB Terrence Wheatley, DB James Sanders, DL Ron Brace and WR Joey Galloway have all been ruled inactive for Week 6 vs. Tennessee.
Analysis: Thomas is a bit of a surprise inactive. He wasn't on the injury report all week, but he did miss practice Thursday and Friday for unknown reasons. We wait to hear for further explanation on Thomas' absence. Taylor is still out battling an ankle injury and Galloway still isn't playing because of ineffectiveness. Keep all of these players reserved for Week 6.
News: Patriots WR Joey Galloway, DB Terrence Wheatley, DB James Sanders, DL Terdell Sands and DL Ron Brace have all been ruled inactive for Week 5 at Denver.
Analysis: The Patriots brought in Galloway this offseason to be a reliable No. 3 wide receiver. He has been anything but that and has now been inactive for two straight games. He has minimal Fantasy appeal until further notice. Make sure to keep all these players reserved for Week 5.
News: New England listed WR Joey Galloway as inactive for Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens. Wes Welker is active and so Galloway was not needed. The following other Patriots are also inactive for the game: DB Terrence Wheatley, DB Bret Lockett, RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, LB Jerod Mayo and DL Ron Brace.
Analysis: Galloway would only really have Fantasy value if Welker were out. The Patriots inactivated him not for an injury. He's owned in 17 percent of Fantasy leagues as a stopgap option. Leave him that way if you own him. Otherwise, he's not worth having. Mayo is a solid Fantasy IDP player, when healthy. The rest of the players above can be avoided going forward.
News: The Patriots have named their inactives for the Week 2 matchup with the Jets: WR Wes Welker, WR Matt Slater, LB Jerod Mayo, TE Michael Matthews and DB Terrence Wheatley are all out.
Analysis: Welker is obviously the monster name in this group, so make you sure get him active him in all formats. The other guys on this list were either named out earlier this week (Mayo, Slater and Wheatley) or have no Fantasy value.
News: Patriots WR Matt Slater (elbow) and CB Terrence Wheatley (knee) have been ruled out for Week 2 at the Jets.
Analysis: Both of these guys were inactive in Week 1 and have no Fantasy value at this time.
News: New England listed several inactives for Week 1's Monday night game against the Bills. The following are inactive for the game: WR Julian Edelman, WR Matt Slater, CB Terrence Wheatley, RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis and DT Myron Pryor.
Analysis: Green-Ellis needs loads of injuries to happen before he's worth thinking about in Fantasy play. None of the players listed above have much Fantasy value. Keep them on waivers.
News: New England RB LaMont Jordan is inactive for Week 11 against the Jets with a calf injury. The following players are also inactive for the game Thursday: QB Matt Gutierrez (3rd QB), CB Terrence Wheatley, CB Lewis Sanders, LB Eric Alexander, DL Ty Warren and LB Adalius Thomas.
Analysis: Jordan should continue to sit on the bench on rosters in deeper leagues. When healthy, he's a candidate to play in the multi-faceted Patriots running game. None of the rest of players mentioned above have any Fantasy value at this time and should be kept off rosters. The Patriots are at Miami in Week 12.
News: The Patriots listed CB Terrence Wheatley (wrist) as out, CB Lewis Sanders (hamstring) as doubtful and LB Eric Alexander (hamstring) and DE Ty Warren (groin) as questionable for Week 11 vs. the Jets.
Analysis: Of these defenders, only Warren warrants Fantasy use in the deepest of IDP leagues. Otherwise, ignore these players.
News: The following Patriots were limited or did not take part in practice Tuesday leading up to Thursday's game against the Jets: LB Eric Alexander (hamstring), CB Lewis Sanders (hamstring) and CB Terrence Wheatley (wrist).
Analysis: All of these players have minimal Fantasy value and should not be used in Week 11 even when healthy.
News: The Patriots inactives for Sunday's game against Buffalo include QB Matt Gutierrez, DB Terrence Wheatley, DB Lewis Sanders and LB Eric Alexander.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved against the Bills. When active, they have minimal Fantasy value.
News: Patriots coach Bill Belichick searched for enough healthy defensive backs to finish the Patriots' last game. He may have the same problem Week 9 against Peyton Manning and the Colts. Safety Rodney Harrison is out for the season, and starting cornerback Ellis Hobbs and backup Lewis Sanders were sidelined from practice Wednesday. It may be time for rookies Terrence Wheatley and Jonathan Wilhite to step up against Manning, still dangerous despite a subpar season for him and Indianapolis. "Even if you're not a starter, you've still got to be ready to go," said Wheatley, a second-round draft pick from Colorado.
Analysis: Hobbs has some low-end IDP value, so keep an eye on his status. None of these other players has much Fantasy value on his own, but with all the problems the Patriots have in their secondary, you have even more reason not to start the Patriots DST against the Colts. Consider it a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Patriots QB Matt Gutierrez, DB Terrence Wheatley, LB Eric Alexander, WR Sam Aiken and LB Shawn Crable have all been listed as inactive for Week 2 at N.Y. Jets.
Analysis: Most of these players are reserves and have a marginal role when active. It's safe to keep them reserved Fantasy Week 2.
News: The New England Patriots signed second-round pick Terrence Wheatley on Tuesday. Wheatley started 28 games in four seasons at Colorado and had 14 interceptions, two for touchdowns. He is in a large group of players with a chance to replace star cornerback Asante Samuel, who left for Philadelphia as a free agent. Wheatley, the 62nd overall pick in the draft, also is a return threat, having gained 1,350 yards on kickoff returns in college.
Analysis: Wheatley might find limited playing time as a rookie, which won't help his Fantasy plight. He's no better than a low-end reserve in the deepest of IDP dynasty leagues.
