Whitehurst completed 10 of his 24 pass attempts, but did not throw a touchdown or an interception. He also rushed for 9 yards on two attempts.

The game appearance was Whitehurst's first since Oct. 19. The Titans will play at Jacksonville Thursday.

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/8/2014) Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed quarterback Jake Locker, not Charlie Whitehurst, will be the starter moving forward, starting Week 15 against the Jets, reports The Tennessean. Rookie starter Zach Mettenberger reportedly suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the Giants, though Whisenhunt maintains there's a chance Mettenberger will return this year.

Locker has played in six games this season, posting a 71.1 passer rating while accounting for six touchdowns and eight turnovers.

Titans coach proclaims QB Mettenberger his Sunday starter

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/23/2014) What was suspected is now official: Zach Mettenberger is set to start at quarterback for the Titans against Houston on Sunday. Jake Locker will serve as his backup.

That news was announced Thursday by Ken Whisenhunt. Locker had been dealing with a thumb injury and Whisenhunt had previously claimed he would regain the starting position when healthy. But his apparent availability to play against the Texans could mean that Mettenberger has overtaken him.

Also in the mix had been veteran Charlie Whitehurst, who started in Locker's absence and completed 60.2 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and two interceptions.

Mettenberger played briefly in Week 4 at Indianapolis and connected on two of five attempts for 17 yards while throwing an interception.

Report: Titans plan to start QB Zach Mettenberger vs. Texans

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10/22/2014) The Titans are planning to start rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger against the Texans Sunday, The Tennessean reports.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday that the plan was to have Jake Locker (thumb) regain the starting job when healthy, and the former first-round pick was limited in practice Wednesday. If Mettenberger has already been notified that he'll start, as the report suggests, it could mean Whisenhunt has changed his mind on Locker, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Locker has completed 58 percent of his passes while averaging 6.8 yards per attempt and throwing four touchdowns and four interceptions in four starts. Backup Charlie Whitehurst has also played four games while starting three times, completing 60.2 percent of his passes while averaging 7.8 yards per attempt and throwing five touchdowns and two interceptions.

Titans QB Charlie Whitehurst throws for two TDs in Week 7 loss

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/19/2014) Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst threw a pair of touchdowns Sunday, but it wasn't enough in a 19-17 loss Week 7 at Washington. Whitehurst completed 17 of 26 passes for 160 yards and one interception, while rushing for 10 yards.

Whitehurst threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kendall Wright with 1:04 left in the second quarter to give Tennessee a 10-6 lead. He then threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Derek Hagan with 7:41 left to put Tennessee ahead 17-16.

Whitehurst was making his third start this season in place of Jake Locker, who missed a second straight game Sunday due to a thumb injury. However, coach Ken Whisenhunt said after Sunday's loss he expects Locker to make his return Week 8 against the Texans.

Titans QB Jake Locker (thumb) optimistic about playing Week 7

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/15/2014) Titans quarterback Jake Locker, who sat out Week 6 due to a thumb injury, returned to practice Wednesday and split reps with Charlie Whitehurst during the portion of practice open to the media, according to The Tennessean.

Locker said he wasn't limited in practice and he had no problem gripping the football. Locker added he is feeling good and is optimistic about playing Week 7 against the Redskins.

Charlie Whitehurst leads Titans to Week 6 win vs. Jaguars

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10/12/2014) Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst completed 17 of his 28 pass attempts for 233 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in his team's 16-14 win over the Jaguars in Week 6.

Whitehurst didn't put together an impressive state line, but he was able to lead the team on four scoring drives to build up a 16-7 lead before the Jaguars attempted a comeback with a late touchdown and long missed field goal. He also added one rushing yard on two carries while picking up his first win of the season. The Titans will hit the road to face the Redskins in Week 7, but it's anyone's guess who will be under center for that game.

Titans QB Jake Locker gets the red light for Week 6

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/10/2014) Titans backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst is expected to start Week 6 against the Jaguars over Jake Locker, according to the Tennessean. Locker, who left Week 5 against the Browns with a hand injury, did not do much during the open portion of practice on Friday, making light throws without any velocity. Titans backup QB Charlie Whitehurst fizzles after early sizzle

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/5/2014) Titans backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst exploded early upon his forced entry into the game Sunday against Cleveland before showing why he is a backup quarterback.

Whitehurst hit Kendall Wright on an 11-yard scoring strike with his second pass, then tossed a perfect 75-yard heave to a wide-open to Justin Hunter on the next possession for another touchdown. He finished the first half 2 of 3 for 86 yards.

After intermission, however, Whitehurst and the Titans were blanked. He completed 11 of 18 for 108 yards in the second half.

Whitehurst will likely start next Sunday against Jacksonville if starter Jake Locker remains sidelined.

Charlie Whitehurst pulled during blowout loss Week 4

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/28/2014) Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst did not fare well as he started in place of the injured Jake Locker (wrist) during Sunday's 41-17 loss at Indianapolis. Whitehurst completed 12 of 23 passes for 177 yards, one touchdown and one interception before being replaced by Zach Mettenberger with 7:26 left in the fourth quarter.

The Titans struggled to gain momentum early in the game, as wide receiver Kendall Wright fumbled on the team's opening drive. On the team's next drive, wide receiver Justin Hunter allowed a pass from Whitehurst to bounce off his hands and be intercepted on the deflection.

Whitehurst did end up as the Titans' leading rusher with 40 yards on five carries. His only touchdown pass came right before the half, as he connected with Delanie Walker on a 7-yard pass with 13 seconds left in the second quarter.

The Titans are back in action Week 5 vs. Cleveland.

Multiple reports say Jake Locker won't play

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/28/2014) Barring an unforeseen improvement in his wrist, Titans quarterback Jake Locker will not play Sunday against the Colts. Both ESPN and NFL Network believe that Charlie Whitehurst will start in Locker's place, with NFL Network suggesting that if Locker would be out for a while that we'd see rookie Zach Mettenberger get the start instead of Whitehurst.

Whitehurst has three touchdowns and five turnovers in four career starts.

Charlie Whitehurst expected to practice Monday

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/29/2014) Titans backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst is expected back in practice on Monday, the Tennessean reports.

"I think we'll know a little bit more as we get to next week, but I don't anticipate that anybody will be missing practice next week," head coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "Once again, I can't speak until something that may happen between now and then, but I don't anticipate that."
