Whisenhunt names backup quarterback

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/19/2014) Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Thursday that Charlie Whitehurst will be the No. 2 quarterback for the team. The Tennessean reports that Whisenhunt made it clear that he has confidence in him. There was some belief that rookie Zach Mettenberger would have a chance to get the job.

Jake Locker is the Titans' starting quarterback.

Titans draft QB Zach Mettenberger

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/10/2014) With pick No. 178 in the NFL Draft, the Titans selected quarterback Zach Mettenberger from LSU.

Mettenberger has the chance to challenge Charlie Whitehurst as the No. 2 quarterback for the Titans behind starter Jake Locker. He could be limited in training camp coming off last year's torn ACL.

Chances are Mettenberger would have gone a little bit higher had he not suffered a torn ACL last season. That injury compounded a problem he's had over his career where he has been slow to move around and out of the pocket. But he's close to healed and still has a heck of an arm -- some believe he had the strongest arm in the draft. The numbers back it up as he threw for 5,691 yards and 35 touchdowns in 25 games.

Titans sign Charlie Whitehurst

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/13/2014) The Titans have agreed to a two-year deal with quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, reports the Tennessean. The deal is worth up to $8 million.

Whitehurst is expected to back up Jake Locker. He was the backup in San Diego in 2013, so he's familiar with new Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt, who was the offensive coordinator for the Chargers last season.

Charlie Whitehurst visiting Titans Thursday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3/13/2014) Former Chargers quarterback Charlie Whitehurst is visiting with the Titans Thursday, according to the Tennessean.

Whitehurst's signing could mean trouble for Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is currently listed as second on the team's depth chart. Earlier in the offseason, the team's coaching staff gave Fitzpatrick a vote of confidence, making it seem like they would retain the veteran.

Whitehurst has played in 13 games, including four starts, over his career. He's thrown three touchdowns to four interceptions in those appearances.

Charlie Whitehurst does little in garbage time

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/8/2013) Chargers quarterback Charlie Whitehurst took over for Philip Rivers in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win over the Giants in Week 14. With the game in hand, Whitehurst saw some extended time under center but did not have a pass attempt. He did, however, have three carries for minus-2 yards in a 37-14 victory.

Whitehurst growing comfortable

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(8/19/2012) San Diego quarterback Charlie Whitehurst completed 7 of his 12 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns during the Chargers' 28-20 win over Dallas in a preseason game on Saturday night. It was Whitehurst's first game action since being hampered by soreness in his left knee during training camp. He was the only San Diego quarterback to reach the end zone as starter Philip Rivers accounted for two interceptions and no scores.
