Packers DST can't corral Colin Kaepernick

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/5/2014) Depleted by injuries, the Packers DST held up well for the most part against the 49ers in Sunday's playoff loss. But the unit could not contain quarterback Colin Kaepernick's running, dooming Green Bay.

Kaepernick ran seven times for 98 yards, more than half of San Francisco's 167 rushing yards. Green Bay gave up 381 total yards and 23 points.

Cornerback Tramon Williams picked off Kaepernick in the second quarter, his fourth interception this year. Linebackers Nick Perry and Brad Jones and defensive end Mike Daniels all registered sacks.

The Packers DST should be stronger in 2014 assuming top pass rusher Clay Matthews returns healthy from his broken thumb.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/16/2013) Packers cornerbacks Tramon Williams and Sam Shields were burned often by Cowboys super wideout Dez Bryant in the first half and beyond Sunday, but they hit their stride to help their team stage a remarkable comeback victory.

Williams and Shields both recorded interceptions in the final three minutes. The Shields pick set up the game-winning touchdown and the one by Williams clinched the victory. Meanwhile, they shut down Bryant down the stretch.

Shields finished with five tackles and three passes defensed. Williams led the team with nine tackles and added two passes defensed.

Tramon Williams says it's a 'possibility' he plays in opener

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/27/2013) Packers cornerback Tramon Williams, who has been battling a bone bruise in his left knee, practiced Monday for the first time since July 30.

"I wasn’t limited as far as me being out there," Williams said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I was going to play however I wanted to play. I was just limited as far as play count; not many plays. They didn’t want to bring me out and kill me the first day."

Williams is not expected to play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Chiefs, but Williams has not ruled himself out for the season opener against the 49ers.

"I think so," he said of the possibility he would play against the 49ers. "I still don’t want to go out and say that I will be there, but for me to be out here now, I think it’s a definite possibility."

Packers' cornerbacks ready to vie for playing time

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/14/2013) At the end of the 2012 season, Packers cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt said he had no idea who his starting cornerbacks would be at the beginning of the 2013 season. Those comments continue to resonate with Tramon Williams, who has been a five-year starter for Green Bay.

"I talked to Joe because he's always been a straight-up guy," Williams said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "But I don't see it as anything being different. I'm preparing to be the starter, just like I always have and I'm planning on being there when the season begins."

Though, with Charles Woodson no longer on the roster, there will be more chances for Sam Shields, Casey Hayward and Davon House to get on the field.

"The way Joe put it out there is that we all have a chance," Hayward said. "And it's going to be a great competition. I feel like we have four starters. All of us have started some games and we all have some experience."
