Bills defense shines in Week 8 win vs. Jets

(10/26/2014) The Bills defense racked up six turnovers and four sacks in the team's 43-23 win over the Jets in Week 8. The Jets fumbled the ball four times in the loss, losing two, while throwing four interceptions in a poor all-around effort from the offense.

Leading the Bills' sack charge was defensive tackle Kyle Williams, who delivered 1.5 sacks despite dealing with a minor back injury during the game. Defensive end Mario Williams also had a half a sack as well as a forced fumble, while defensive linemen Corbin Bryant contributed a sack and a forced fumble and defensive end Jarius Wynn added a sack of his own.

The Bills were able to intercept four passes, with three coming against starter Geno Smith in the first quarter and one coming from the arm of backup Michael Vick, who took over and played most of the game. Linebacker Preston Brown, cornerback Stephon Gilmore and safeties Aaron Williams and Da'Norris Searcy each picked off a pass in the winning effort.

The Bills head into a Week 9 bye with a 5-3 record before facing the Chiefs in Week 10.

(10/17/2014) The Bills have ruled out wide receivers Marcus Easley (knee) and Marquise Goodwin (hamstring) for their Week 7 battle against the visiting Vikings. Also out is linebacker Ty Powell (ankle).

The team is otherwise healthy - the rest of those on its injury report Friday are probable. They are long snapper Garrison Sanborn (knee), safeties Aaron Williams (wrist/neck) and Da'Norris Searcy (knee), linebacker Brandon Spikes (ribs) and defensive tackle Kyle Williams (knee).

(10/10/2014) Bills running back Fred Jackson (ankle) and defensive tackle Kyle Williams (knee) are among the key players on both sides of the ball that have been ruled questionable for Week 6 against New England.

Jackson missed practice Friday because of an illness but is listed as questionable because of a nagging ankle injury. However, a source told ESPN he's expected to play on Sunday.

(10/5/2014) The Bills have listed the following players as inactive for Sunday's game against the Lions: defensive tackle Kyle Williams (knee), linebacker Nigel Bradham (knee), guard Chris Williams (back), wide receiver Marcus Easley (knee), cornerback Ross Cockrell, running back Bryce Brown and offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio.

Bradham and Kyle Williams were doubtful to play on the team's final injury report, and the absence of both key defenders could cause problems against the Lions offense. Easley and Chris Williams had already been ruled out Friday.

Guard Chris Williams (back) and wideout Marcus Easley (knee) have both been ruled out, but the other players on their Friday injury report are probable. Williams has been dealing with a knee injury sustained in Week 4. He had started all four games this season.

(9/7/2014) The Bills defense notched two sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery in the team's 23-20 win over the Bears in Week 1.

Even with Stephon Gilmore sidelined, the Bills got fine cornerback play in the win, with Leodis McKelvin recording 13 tackles and forcing a fumble, and Gilmore fill-in Corey Graham cutting in front of tight end Martellus Bennett for an interception. Defensive tackle Kyle Williams recorded the team's second pick on a pass over the middle. The Bills will look to build off the strong showing against a very good offense when they face the Dolphins at home in Week 2.


Chiefs pare roster down to 53

(8/30/2014) The Chiefs have announced their final round of cuts and other moves to reach the league-mandated roster of 53 players.

Among the offensive players let go are fullback Jordan Campbell, wide receivers Fred Williams and Mark Harrison, guard Ricky Henry, tackle J'Marcus Webb and running back Charcandrick West.

The defensive players gone from the roster are safeties Jonathon Amaya and Malcolm Bronson, linemen Dominique Hamilton, Kyle Love and Kona Schwenke, linebackers Alonzo Highsmith, Devan Walker and Nico Johnson and cornerbacks Justin Rogers and DeMarcus Van Dyke .

The Chiefs have also placed Tyler Bray and Kyle Williams on IR and Mike Catapano on the non-football injury list.

(1/27/2014) New Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is looking forward to working with all of Buffalo's talent up front, led by Mario Williams, Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus.

"We’re an attack scheme, it’s a scheme built on the guys up front getting after the quarterback," the former Lions coach said Monday. "As much as you want to be multi-dimensional with personnel groups, this league comes down to one on one and I think we have some guys that can do that.

"Whatever anybody wants to tag the system as far as a name, it won’t be us," he added. "We’re just going to try to do whatever we can every week to do the best to have the game plan. I think the similarities you’ll see is it will be as aggressive as it can be and try to be as physical as we can be and it will be an attack style."

The others are wideouts Marcus Easley and Marquise Goodwin with knee injuries and defensive tackle Kyle Williams (Achilles).
