Vince Young decides to retire

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/16/2014) Quarterback Vince Young, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2011, has decided to retire, reports ESPN.

"I'm retired," Young told the radio station KXAN in Austin, Texas. "Unless we get a great opportunity, something guaranteed ... I've already started moving forward. ... It's definitely official, I think, in my book."

Young, who didn't play in the NFL this past season after being cut by the Packers in the preseason, participated in the Browns' three-day minicamp before signing with the team May 1. The team signed veteran quarterback Tyler Thigpen on the same day and released Young four days after drafting Johnny Manziel.

The No. 3 overall pick in 2006 by the Titans, Young earned Rookie of the Year honors and made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2009 while starting for the Titans. He was released in 2011 after a falling out with coach Jeff Fisher.

In parts of six seasons with the Titans and Eagles, Young threw for 8,964 yards and 46 touchdowns.

Young will now go to work for his alma mater, the University of Texas. He told the Houston Chronicle in April he would accept a job as an ambassador for the university whenever he decided to retire.

Vince Young still hoping to get back in NFL

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(4/23/2014) Quarterback Vince Young last played in a regular-season game with the Eagles in 2011. He was in training camp with the Packers last year.

Young is working out in San Diego and says he's drawn interest from some teams, though he wouldn't name them. "You never know when you're going to get a call," Young told the Houston Chronicle. "There is some interest."

If he doesn't get back in the NFL, Young said he wouldn't consider the CFL. He'd take a job with the University of Texas, serving as an ambassador and doing speaking engagements, according to the paper.

(2/11/2014) Quarterback Vince Young, cut by the Packers last preseason, aims to play in 2014, reports the Houston Chronicle. Young last played in a regular-season game in 2011 with the Eagles.

He said he's settled his bankruptcy case and will train in San Diego for the next two months in hopes of latching on with a team.

“I am pleased with the quick resolution of my bankruptcy case," said Young, 30. "With all these battles behind me, I am able to devote my sole focus on family, football and pursuing all opportunities in front of me.”

Young completed 26 of 49 passes for 218 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the preseason.
