News: Chargers running back Le'Ron McClain did not see any carries in Week 13 against the Bengals but was able to come up with a few grabs. He caught three passes for 16 yards in the 20-13 loss.
Analysis: McClain mainly serves as the fullback in San Diego and usually does not see many touches. Continue to ignore him in the majority of Fantasy formats down the stretch.
News: Chargers running back Le'Ron McClain was not much of a factor in Week 1 against the Raiders. McClain touched the ball six times in the 22-14 win and racked up a combined 20 yards on his touches. 15 of those came through the air on four receptions and he finished with 5 yards rushing on two carries.
Analysis: McClain is the team's fullback and likely won't see a ton of touches each week. While he might steal a touchdown or two away from Ryan Mathews near the goal line, owners will not be able to count on consistent weekly production from the 27-year-old. Leave him reserved in the majority of formats heading into Week 2 against the Titans.
News: Though Ryan Mathews expects to be ready by the start of the regular season, the Chargers are still making plans for the remainder of the preseason and possibly Week 1. Coach Norv Turner told the San Diego Union Times Sunday that he will likely split carries between Ronnie Brown, Le'Ron McClain and Curtis Brinkley, at least until Mathews is able to return.
Analysis: McClain carried the ball just one time during the team's preseason opener against the Packers, but he should get more opportunities moving forward. McClain has a chance to fill the Mike Tolbert roll for San Diego, serving as a big, bruising back who could get some time in goal-line packages. Still, the Chargers expect Mathews to get the lion's share once he is healthy, so McClain should be left for the later rounds of most leagues on Draft Day as a handcuff option.
News: Chargers coach Norv Turner told KWWN-AM in Las Vegas over the weekend that he's excited about what running back/fullback Le'Ron McClain brings to the team. He was signed as a free agent in March. "[H]e's a very versatile player and he's a big old-school fullback," Turner said. "But he's a good runner, he's got good catching skills and I think he'll be a big addition."
Analysis: Many believe that the Chargers' decision not to add another a running back will mean a big season for Ryan Mathews. That could be true, but if McClain can pick up a decent percentage of the reps Mike Tolbert left behind when he went to Carolina, then he could be worth a little bit in Fantasy. Back in 2008 McClain had the chance to be the Ravens' primary rusher and he wound up with 902 rush yards on 232 carries with 10 touchdowns. If the Chargers fail to add another back through training camp, McClain could emerge as a late-round sleeper.
News:Le'Ron McClain has agreed to a three-year deal with San Diego. McClain has split time as a running back and fullback but is considered a fullback by the team for the time being. He rushed for 902 yards on 232 carries for Baltimore in 2008, though he spent more time as a lead blocker from 2009-11. He has averaged 18.8 catches per season over the last four seasons.
Analysis: We could see McClain getting a bump in production in San Diego if the Chargers choose to use him to replace Mike Tolbert. We'll see how that shakes out. If that happens, McClain might be a decent late-round sleeper.
News: Chiefs FB Le'Ron McClain had one carry for 11 yards and no catches on two targets Saturday against Oakland in Week 16.
Analysis: McClain has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues. Ignore him in all formats in Week 17 at Denver.
News: Kansas City RB Le'Ron McClain saw some action on Sunday in Week 15 at home against the Packers. In a game that saw Kansas City become the first team in the NFL to beat the Packers, McClain rushed four times for 20 yards. He added four catches for 26 yards as he totaled 46 yards overall. McClain was targeted by QB Kyle Orton five times in the performance.
Analysis: McClain saw his first Fantasy points of any kind since Week 10 in the Week 15 game against the Packers. McClain's re-emergence was nice, but we doubt that is going to continue heading into Week 16 against Oakland. McClain did score his only TD of the season against the Raiders Week 7, but that was his only rushing attempt of that game. McClain has low-end Fantasy value for Week 16.
News: Kansas City FB Le'Ron McClain had a touchdown Sunday in Week 10 against Denver. McClain had two catches for 9 yards and scored on a 1-yard pass from QB Matt Cassel.
Analysis: It was good to see McClain score, but he has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues. Ignore him in Week 11 at New England.
News: Chiefs RB Le'Ron McClain was not much of a factor in Week 8 against the Chargers. McClain finished with just two receptions for 17 yards in the 23-20 contest and was unable to get in the end zone. He had a long of 14 yards and was targeted twice by QB Matt Cassel.
Analysis: McClain didn't get a single carry on Monday night as the Chiefs decided to use him exclusively in the passing game. The 26-year-old is considered more of a blocking back in the team's offensive scheme, so don't be expecting to see him get a ton of touches each week. As long as Jackie Battle, Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones are all healthy, McClain's Fantasy value will remain limited. He can be ignored in the majority of formats heading into Week 9 against the Dolphins.
News: Chiefs RB Le'Ron McClain was able to find the end zone for the first time this season in Week 7 against the Raiders. McClain scored on a 1-yard scamper in the second quarter to put Kansas City up 14-0. He also caught one pass for 4 yards in the 28-0 victory.
Analysis: McClain has been banged up for much of the season, but was able to get himself healthy over the team's bye last week. The 26-year-old is considered more of a blocking back in the Chiefs' offensive scheme, so don't be expecting to see many more touchdowns out of him the rest of the season. As long as Jackie Battle, Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones are all healthy, McClain's Fantasy value will remain limited. He can be ignored in the majority of formats heading into Week 8 against the Chargers.
News: Chiefs RB Jackie Battle (head) and FB LeRon McClain (neck) did not participate in Tuesday's practice. Both left the Indianapolis game with their injuries. Coach Todd Haley remained optimistic after further evaluation of both players on Monday that they should not be out of action for any long period of time.
Analysis: McClain has registered just seven rushing attempts during the first four games of the season for a lowly average of 2.1 yards per carry. The 26-year-old isn't expected to see much time in the running game behind Thomas Jones, Jackie Battle and Dexter McCluster. Fantasy owners should continue to ignore him in all formats for now.
News: Kansas City RB Le'Ron McClain left Week 5 against Indianapolis after apparently tweaking his neck during the second quarter. McClain, who did not record a carry before departing, is questionable to return.
Analysis: McClain has registered just seven rushing attempts during the first four games of the season for a lowly average of 2.1 yards per carry. The 26-year-old isn't expected to see much time in the running game behind Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster. Fantasy owners should continue to ignore him in all formats for now.
News: Cheifs RB RB Le'Ron McClain was able to notch six touches (four rushing) for 27 total yards (12 receiving) Week 2 against the Lions. He was only able to get in the mix because the game was a blowout and because of an injury. Starting RB Jamaal Charles severely injured his knee early in the blowout loss, and initial reports suggest he is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Analysis: McClain should be in the mix going forward, but he may be No. 3 in the pecking order behind Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the situation in the coming weeks, though the former 1,000-yard back may not be worth utilizing any time soon. McClain should remain on the bench at best until his role on the Charles-less Chiefs becomes clear.
News:Le'Ron McClain spoke a bunch over the last year about getting more opportunities to run with the ball, but Chiefs coach Todd Haley doesn't seem him that way. A day after signing him, Haley explained what he saw in McClain. "I think he's a big physical fullback who has shown good running ability," Haley said. "He's very clear, and we are very clear that he's coming in as our fullback."
Analysis: McClain might still pick up a couple of carries each week and more importantly could become a goal-line cash cow. No one should draft him in Fantasy since he'll likely garner one or two points each week.
News: FoxSports.com reported Wednesday that ex-Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Chiefs. The versatile back has seen a drop-off in production over the last two seasons as a Raven after a breakout 2008 campaign in which he rushed for 902 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns.
Analysis: McClain has reportedly lost more than 10 pounds, and the team did plenty of research before acquiring the big-man. He will be able to start at fullback in all likelihood to provide holes for Jamaal Charles, and he may steal some touchdowns from Thomas Jones if he can establish himself as a short-yardage back. McClain still has minimal value until he proves it on the field, but with Charles healthy, he will not see enough significant action to be selected on Draft Day.Keep an eye on his preseason production just in case.
News: The Carroll County Times reports that the Chiefs are considering signing ex-Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain.
Analysis: McClain had a big season a few years back and then reverted back into a fullback for the Ravens. He's likely to serve in the same role in Kansas City, popping open holes for Jamaal Charles, if he signs there. Either way, Fantasy owners shouldn't draft him or put him on their rosters.
News: The Carroll County Times reports Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain wants to return to Baltimore after the lockout ends, but he feels he can do more than just be a fullback. "I feel like I can play the running back position," he said. "I want that opportunity. I had that opportunity in 2008. The numbers don't lie. That speaks for itself. This year, I'm on a whole different level. It's a new era." McClain, who checked in at 260 pounds last season, said he has been working hard this offseason, but he won't reveal his new weight. "I'm down, I'm in great shape," he said. "I'm catching like 110 balls a day, doing a lot of different stuff, getting ready, taking my game to another level. I've been doing everything explosive this year: more fast, more fit, more endurance to be that all-down back."
Analysis: McClain rushed for a career-high 902 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2008 for the Ravens when he was used primarily as a running back. In the last two seasons, however, he has totaled just 265 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The reason -- the emergence of Ray Rice. McClain is going to find it hard to get carries in Baltimore if Rice remains the primary running back. He might need a fresh start to get the chance to be a reliable running back, but as of now there is no need to draft McClain in Fantasy.
News: The Carroll County Times reports that the Ravens expect FB Le'Ron McClain, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, to test free agency this offseason. McClain has lobbied unsuccessfully to become more involved on offense since rushing for a career-high 902 yards and 10 touchdowns two seasons ago with his role as a ball-carrier dwindling more each year. The Ravens could let McClain leave and possibly replace him, but coach John Harbaugh would like McClain to return. "LeRon McClain is a ball carrier, too, he's not just a fullback," Harbaugh said. "The market is going to declare that a little bit. I would love to have Le'Ron signed right now, too. I think he's going to be interested to see what the market is going to bear for him. There's so much uncertainty right now. It's just hard to predict."
Analysis: McClain has minimal Fantasy value as a FB, but he could increase his value if he signs elsewhere and has the ability to get more carries. Continue to monitor what develops because in the right situation McClain could be worth drafting with a late-round pick.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that even though FB LeRon McClain said when the season was over that he wants to leave Baltimore, McClain has now changed his tune. On Wednesday morning, McClain posted on Twitter that he would like to remain with the Ravens. "Im heading to [Atlanta] to meet with my agent, talk contract talk, man," McClain said. Just getting prepared for this offseason, man. Getting pretty much amped up, you know, for this little period Im about to go through. ... Hopefully Ill be back with yall next year, doing my thing, running people over, punishing people like I do every Sunday. So Im looking forward to that, man."
Analysis: McClain, a two-time Pro Bowler, should have plenty of suitors on the free-agent market. He is one of the premier blocking fullbacks in the NFL, and he isn't too shabby as a feature back. In 2008, he rushed for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns as the Ravens went to the AFC championship game. Since that surprising season, McClain has felt that he deserves more carries. He could return to the Ravens in a bigger role if the team parts ways with Willis McGahee. Continue to monitor what happens with McClain, but if he remains as a FB then his Fantasy value is limited.
News: Ravens RB/FB Le'Ron McClain told the Baltimore Sun that he doesn't expect to stay with the team. McClain is scheduled to be a free agent, and after spending the season campaigning for more carries and not getting them, he thinks a change of scenery is in order. "It's up to what the Ravens' organization decides," McClain said. "But I doubt it, though. I doubt it. If I was [returning], I would probably have been used a little bit more this season and the past two years. It is what it is. I'm over that now. Four great years in Baltimore. Now I'm just looking forward to the future."
Analysis: After a monster 2008 campaign that saw McClain tally 902 rush yards, 123 receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns, his stats have sunk like a rock. Over his last two years McClain has amassed 265 rush yards, 275 receiving yards and two total touchdowns (none in 2010). Expect him to land on a roster that utilizes him in the run game a bit more, but not as much as with the Ravens in 2008. He's currently not someone who should be on your Fantasy radar.
News: Baltimore RB Le'Ron McClain rushed just twice in the Week 16 win over the Browns. He totaled 19 yards on the ground. McClain also caught one pass for 5 yards. He was targeted just the one time by QB Joe Flacco.
Analysis: McClain will touch the ball for the Ravens at times, but he's largely just the blocking fullback for Willis McGahee and Ray Rice. Continue ignoring him in Fantasy play heading into the regular-season finale in Week 17 against the Bengals.
News: Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain was activated for Week 15 against the Saints. He had been listed as questionable on the injury report.
Analysis: McClain continues to get the odd run or catch here and there for the Ravens, but he remains primarily a blocking back. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play, healthy or not.
News: Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain was relatively quiet in Week 14 against the Texans. McClain, who missed the previous game with a ankle injury, had just 2 yards rushing on one carry in the 34-28 win. He also had two receptions for 20 yards and did not score in the contest.
Analysis: McClain appears to be over his ankle injury, which is good news for the Ravens. However, he doesn't offer much from a Fantasy standpoint and can be ignored in the majority of Fantasy leagues heading into Week 15.
News: Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain has officially been ruled active for Week 14 against the Texans. McClain did not play in Week 13 against the Steelers because of an ankle injury.
Analysis: McClain continues to get the odd run or catch here and there for the Ravens, but he remains primarily a blocking back. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play, healthy or not.
News: Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain, who left last week's game with a sprained ankle, is listed among the team's inactives for the Week 13 game against the Steelers. He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday with the issue, but saw limited practice time on Friday, when he was listed as questionable for the Sunday night matchup.
Analysis: McClain continues to get the odd run or catch here and there for the Ravens, but he remains primarily a blocking back. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play, healthy or not.
News: Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain left Sunday's Week 12 game against Tampa Bay with a sprained ankle and did not return. McClain did not manage a carry before leaving. After the game, he was seen in a boot. McClain said he's day-to-day and hopes to play in Week 13 against the Steelers.
Analysis: McClain continues to get the odd run or catch here and there for the Ravens, but he remains primarily a blocking back. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play, healthy or not.
News: Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain ran five times for 17 yards in a Week 9 win over Miami.
Analysis: McClain continues to get the odd run or catch here and there for the Ravens, but he remains primarily a blocking back. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play heading into Week 10 at Atlanta.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain caught three passes for 35 yards in a Week 7 win over Buffalo.
Analysis: McClain provides blocking as a full back for the Ravens, but he also provided some laughs for his teammates on Sunday when he fell over after the end of one of his catches. As the third rushing option in Baltimore, McClain remains a non-factor in Fantasy play. The Ravens are off in Week 8.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain has just 16 carries for 40 yards in six games this season. If there's any team that can help him get on track on the ground, it's their Week 7 opponent, Buffalo. The Bills have the NFL's worst run defense, giving up 182.4 yards per game. In their last two games, four different RBs have amassed at least 70 yards against them, two -- LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene -- have gone over 100.
Analysis: McClain is clearly the fullback in Baltimore, but the goal line can still serve his owners well if he gets the opportunity. Starter Ray Rice is healthy and the Ravens 15th-ranked ground game can certainly break out against the winless Bills in Week 7 and McClain could be a big part of that. Unfortunately for Fantasy owners, he would be a bigger part of the break out as a blocker rather than as a runner. Consider McClain to be a very low-end Fantasy option against the Bills in Week 7.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain did more blocking than anything else in Week 6 against the Patriots. He had three carries for 7 yards and one reception for 4 yards.
Analysis: McClain was a breakout Fantasy option in 2008 when he was an integral part of the running game. Since his move to fullback last season, his touches have been that of his position. McClain might get a touchdown here or there, but as his early season numbers show, he isn't going to do enough to sustain at this time. Keep him on Fantasy benches heading into Week 7 vs. the Bills.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain ran five times for 13 yards and caught two passes for 11 yards in a Week 5 win over Denver.
Analysis: McClain had four of his carries inside the 10-yard line on Sunday but couldn't find his way into the end zone. He will continue to get touches in the red zone now and again, but will also lose touches to Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. McClain remains more of a fullback than anything and can continue to be ignored in Fantasy play heading into Week 6 at New England.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain practiced in full participation Wednesday despite his shoulder injury as the Ravens prepare for the Broncos in Week 5. McClain left Week 4 at Pittsburgh with a shoulder injury after taking a big hit on a carry in the second half, then his shoulder "went numb" according to his twitter feed. After the game he said it felt great. Denver ranks 13th in the NFL at stopping the run, allowing 101 yards per game.
Analysis: McClain became the latest Ravens RB to deal with injuries in the last week. Both Ray Rice and Willis McGahee saw limited carries in Week 4 with injuries. However, Rice and McGehee were back at practice Wednesday along with McClain, so the team's gameplan should not change. If Rice and McGahee remain healthy, McClain has little Fantasy value.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain left Week 4 at Pittsburgh with a shoulder injury after taking a big hit on a carry in the second half. He posted on his verified Twitter feed after the game that he was alright. "I'm great everybody shoulder went numb that's all. I'm great!!!!!" tweeted McClain. He finished the game with just two carries for 7 yards. He also caught two passes for 13 yards.
Analysis: McClain missed a chance for significant touches in the second half after Willis McGahee went down with an injury. Ray Rice was limited for much of the game due to a knee injury that had him on the injury report all week. He entered play with just six carries on the season for 13 yards and had four catches for 28 more. He is a threat for short-yardage and goal line carries, but has little Fantasy appeal while Rice and McGahee are both healthy. Fantasy owners should monitor their health prior to making a decision for Week 5. The Ravens will face the Broncos.
News: Ravens RB Ray Rice (knee) said on Thursday that his bruised right knee should not prevent him from playing Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rice said that he is "sure" he will be "ready to play," but acknowledged that the final decision will be left to Ravens coach John Harbaugh. Willis McGahee would be the starting running back in case of a setback with Rice, but is now expected to be limited to backup duties. LeRon McClain will continue to serve as the third running back on the depth chart.
Analysis: McClain has just six carries on the season for 13 yards and has four catches for 28 more. Even if he were to get some extra touches this week, his matchup against Pittsburgh would make him a very low-end play anyway. The Steelers have allowed just 59.7 yards per game on the ground and just one touchdown through three games. He should remain reserved in most Fantasy formats until further notice.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain rushed once for 4 yards and caught two passes for 18 yards in the Week 3 win over the Browns. McClain was only targeted twice by quarterback Joe Flacco. Late in the fourth quarter, starting back Ray Rice suffered a knee injury. His status for Week 4 in Pittsburgh is not yet known but coach John Harbaugh said he did not have ligament damage, reports the Baltimore Sun. If Rice can't play in Week 4, McClain could see a boost in carries.
Analysis: McClain has just six carries on the season for 13 yards and has four catches for 28 more. He is not a major part of the offense but could definitely see a slight boost Week 4 with more carries if Rice is out. Right now that is just a giant "if," however. McClain should not be planned to be used Week 4 in Pittsburgh.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain did more blocking than anything else in Week 2 against the Bengals. He had just one carry for 3 yards and one reception for 5 yards. McClain has just five carries for 9 yards and two catches for 10 yards in two games this season.
Analysis: McClain was a breakout Fantasy option in 2008 when he was an integral part of the running game. Since his move to fullback last season, his touches have been that of his position. McClain might get a touchdown here or there, but as his early season numbers show, he isn't going to do enough to sustain at this time. Keep him on Fantasy benches heading into Week 3 against the Browns.
News: Ravens FB LeRon McClain was a non-factor in Week 1 against the Jets. McClain rushed for 6 yards on four carries averaging just 1.5 yards per carry. He also had one reception for 5 yards in the 10-9 victory.
Analysis: McClain is the blocking back for the Ravens, but he gets occasional carries to spell Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. He might get a goal-line carry here or there, but McClain does not get enough consistent touches to have any real Fantasy value. He can be left on the waiver wire heading into his Week 2 matchup against the Bengals.
News: Ravens FB LeRon McClain was able to play in Saturday's third preseason game against the Giants after dealing with a knee injury during practice. McClain had three carries for 10 yards.
Analysis: McClain is the blocking back for the Ravens, but he gets occasional carries to spell Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. McClain will get a few touchdowns in 2010, but he has minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in the majority of leagues on Draft Day.
News: The official Ravens web site reports that RB LeRon McClain has a slightly swollen knee, but he should be OK for Saturday's preseason game against the Giants.
Analysis: Barring an injury, McClain's Fantasy contribution this season isn't likely to be anything of significance. He remains the fullback in Baltimore, which could give him the odd goal-line carry here and there, but McClain should only be drafted in the very deepest of Fantasy formats.
News: After limited reps on Thursday morning, Ravens FB LeRon McClain looks ready to go for Saturday's preseason game at Washington. McClain missed practice Wednesday and was favoring his right leg.
Analysis: Keep an eye on McClain and hope he's healthy. McClain took a big step back in 2009 after totaling 902 rushing yards in 2008. That's because he shifted to fullback, and Ray Rice and Willis McGahee were the 1-2 punch in the backfield. We expect the same configuration in 2010, as long as everyone is healthy. Don't bother with McClain in most Fantasy formats.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain was in the starting lineup at fullback for Thursday's preseason opener against the Panthers. McClain got the team's first two carries on the opening drive and finished with four carries for 21 yards. He also had a long gain of 14 yards and two carries in the red zone.
Analysis: Ray Rice didn't play in Thursday's game because Baltimore knows what he brings to the table. Thursday presented a chance to see what other backfield options it has. McClain took a big step back in 2009 after totaling 902 rushing yards in 2008. That's because he shifted to fullback, and Rice and Willis McGahee were the 1-2 punch in the backfield. We expect the same configuration in 2010, as long as everyone is healthy. Don't bother with McClain in most Fantasy formats.
News: Ravens FB Le'Ron McClain, a restricted free agent, has signed a one-year contract worth $2.396 million, the team announced Wednesday.
Analysis: McClain has been looking for more carries in 2010, but that's not likely to happen. The Ravens are set at RB with Ray Rice and Willis McGahee, and McClain will have to settle for spot carries and being used in short-yardage situations. He is only worth drafting in deep leagues this season with a late-round pick.
News: Ravens FB Le'Ron McClain took to Twitter to express his interest in getting more carries this season. After scoring 10 touchdowns and landing 902 rush yards in 2008, McClain accepted a role as a fullback in the Baltimore offense and had 180 rush yards and two scores last season. He's expected to stay as a fullback this season. "'MCCLAIN 4 RB.' The best gotta work harder than the rest!!" McClain typed on Twitter. "Yes it says RB!!!! I believe I can do and that's all that matters."
Analysis: McClain forgets what team he's on -- the Ravens have a solid 1-2 punch in Ray Rice and Willis McGahee, so McClain will get lost in the shuffle. He's not worth owning in Fantasy play so long as the backs in front of him retain regular playing time.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain rushed four times for 8 yards in Sunday's Wild Card playoff win at New England. The Ravens ran all over the Patriots and McClain scored on a 1-yard TD run in the 1st quarter to make the score 14-0.
Analysis: McClain runs behind Willis McGahee and Ray Rice in Baltimore and isn't expected to be anything but a fullback once again next season. Expect him to go undrafted in Fantasy and don't use him in Playoff Challenge leagues.
News: Ravens WR Kelley Washington, who had one catch over his previous three games, had two for 7 yards Week 17 at Oakland. He had two or more catches in only two of his final nine games.
Analysis: Washington had a few decent performances earlier in the year, when the Ravens were leaning more on Joe Flacco and less on Ray Rice. He doesn't figure to start in 2010, though, so you can ignore him in Fantasy.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had one carry for 5 yards and one catch for 6 at Oakland in Week 17. He averaged 2.9 carries per game this season.
Analysis: The Ravens used McClain even less than usual in their finale, which shows how little they count on him to move the ball these days. He'll likely be no more than a fullback again in 2010, so expect him to go undrafted in Fantasy.
News: Ravens FB LeRon McClain had six carries for 17 yards Sunday at Pittsburgh. He also added one catch for 2 yards.
Analysis: McClain is a blocking back for the Ravens and has minimal Fantasy value. Don't plan on using him in Week 17 at Oakland.
News: Ravens FB LeRon McClain had three carries for 6 yards Sunday against Chicago.
Analysis: McClain is a blocking FB who gets occasional carries every now and then. He has minimal Fantasy value in all leagues and should not be used in Week 16 at the Steelers.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain scored his second touchdown of the season on Sunday in a Week 14 win over the Lions. McClain got six carries in the game, gaining 32 yards. His TD came on a 3-yard run in the third quarter.
Analysis: McClain was held completely off the stat sheet in Week 13 at Green Bay and the only reason he was more of a featured option Week 14 was because the Ravens put the Lions away early. The Ravens will likely have more of a challenge in Week 15 against the Bears and McClain wont likely get even six touches. He can be stashed in deeper formats but little else.
News: Baltimore FB LeRon McClain did not get a touch in the Week 13 Monday night loss at Green Bay.
Analysis: McClain has just 30 carries on the entire season and one touchdown. McClain's days as a Fantasy contributor appear to be over for now, so just continue to stash him away in deeper leagues. Baltimore plays Detroit in Week 14.
News: Baltimore FB LeRon McClain (chest) is active for Week 13 on Monday night at Green Bay.
Analysis: McClain's days as a Fantasy contributor appear to be over for now, so just continue to stash him away in deeper leagues.
News: Baltimore FB LeRon McClain (chest) is active for Week 13 on Monday night at Green Bay.
Analysis: McClain's days as a Fantasy contributor appear to be over for now, so just continue to stash him away in deeper leagues.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain (chest) was back at full practice on Saturday in preparation for Week 13 on Monday night at Green Bay. McClain had been limited earlier in the week.
Analysis: McClain's days as a Fantasy contributor appear to be over for now, so just continue to stash him away in deeper leagues, healthy or not.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain (chest) was limited in practice Friday as Baltimore prepares for Monday night's game at Green Bay.
Analysis: McClain's days as a Fantasy contributor appear to be over for now, so just continue to stash him away in deeper leagues, healthy or not.
News: Ravens RB/FB Le'Ron McClain had four carries for 28 yards and a 9-yard catch vs. the Steelers in Week 12. It's the seventh time this season he's been good for at least 25 total yards of offense. He did leave the game with an abdominal injury and did not return.
Analysis: McClain is still way behind where he was statistically for the Ravens in 2008 and thus cannot be considered a reliable source of Fantasy points. The Ravens play at the Packers in Week 13 -- leave him off rosters then.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had three carries for 4 yards and one 5-yard catch in a Week 11 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: McClain hasn't done a whole lot of anything this season and should be ignored in Week 12 at Houston.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain rushed three times for 10 yards in the Week 10 win at Cleveland on Monday night. McClain added three catches for 19 more yards in the easy victory. He was mostly used as a blocker in the game.
Analysis: McClain is a top blocker but hasnt scored a touchdown or rushed for decent yardage since Week 1 of the season. He only has minimal value as a pass catcher as well and really doesnt need to be active in Fantasy play for Week 11 against the Colts.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain caught two passes for 24 yards and rushed twice for 2 yards in the Week 9 loss at Cincinnati.
Analysis: McClain does not factor into the Baltimore running game much anymore and won't catch enough passes, either, to be considered a viable Fantasy option going forward. Baltimore plays at Cleveland Week 10.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain (shoulder) is active and healthy for Week 9 at Cincinnati.
Analysis: McClain had as many carries in Week 8 (3) as he had in Weeks 4-6 combined. He is no longer a major part of the offense in Baltimore and doesn't need to be owned in too many Fantasy leagues. Leave him alone for Week 9 at Cincinnati, regardless of injury.
News: Baltimore RB Le'Ron McClain (shoulder) was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday but returned to a full practice on Friday as the team prepares to face the Bengals in Cincinnati in Week 9. McClain has yet to miss a game this season and has one rushing touchdown. He has been listed as probable for the game.
News: Baltimore backup RB LeRon McClain carried the ball for 20 yards on one carry in the Week 8 win over Denver. McClain finished with three carries for 31 yards in the game.
Analysis: McClain had as many carries in Week 8 (3) as he had in Weeks 4-6 combined. He is no longer a major part of the offense in Baltimore and doesn't need to be owned in too many Fantasy leagues. Leave him alone for Week 9 at Cincinnati.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain had one carry for 1 yard and one catch for minus-2 yards Sunday at Minnesota.
Analysis: McClain is the blocking FB for the Ravens, and his job is to clear the way for Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. McClain has minimal Fantasy value and should not be used in most leagues. The Ravens are off in Week 7 so keep McClain on your bench.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain didn't do much on Sunday in a Week 5 loss to the Bengals. McClain got only two carries in the game for a total of 6 yards. He also made three catches for a total of 19 yards.
Analysis: McClain is pretty much only being used as a blocker at this point in the season and is not worth owning in most Fantasy formats. He is not a recommended option Week 6 at Minnesota.
News: Ravens FB LeRon McClain had no carries or catches Sunday at New England. The Ravens are going with a tandem of Ray Rice and Willis McGahee to carry the offensive load in the backfield.
Analysis: It's safe to release McClain in all standard leagues since he's only being used as a blocker. Even in deep formats, don't plan on using McClain in Week 5 against the Bengals.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain, who has yet to find the end zone this season, will take on the Patriots in Week 4. New England ranks 10th against the run in 2009, allowing just one score on the ground.
Analysis: McClain's Fantasy value has taken a real hit this year with the re-emergence of Willis McGahee, although he's still getting a few catches out of the backfield. In Week 4, he should only be used in the deepest of PPR leagues as a low-end flex option.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain rushed twice on Sunday against the Browns in Week 3 for 7 yards. He also caught three passes for 29 yards.
Analysis: McClain has 12 carries this season for 38 yards and a score. He's also caught eight passes for 68 yards. He's probably been more effective as a pass catcher thus far and is third on the team behind Ray Rice and Willis McGahee rushing the football. He's not getting the rushing TDs anymore, either, so consider him a very low-end Fantasy option for Week 4 at New England.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain will face the Browns in Week 3. Last year against Cleveland, McClain had 31 carries for 100 yards and three touchdowns in two games.
Analysis: McClain's situation is a lot different this season than it was in 2008, as Ray Rice has taken on a bigger role in the Baltimore run game. McClain is still worth a shot as a flex option in deeper leagues though, simply because of his goal-line ability.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain totaled four carries for 12 yards during a Week 2 win against the Chargers. His longest gain went 5 yards. McClain also had two catches for 16 yards. Unfortunately, he did not score a touchdown while fellow RB Willis McGahee scored twice.
Analysis: McClain has really become a team player and adjusted to his role as a hybrid RB/FB. While he was a feature back in 2008, he likely won't be in that same role unless something happens to McGahee and Ray Rice. McClain remains just a flex option in deeper leagues for the time being. The Ravens play the Browns in Week 3. McClain had 31 carries for 100 yards and three touchdowns in two games against the Browns last season.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain will face the Chargers in Week 2 after opening his 2009 campaign with a touchdown in Week 1 vs. the Chiefs. San Diego allowed 148 rushing yards to the Raiders in Week 1.
Analysis: McClain gets the odd carry here and there for the Ravens, but his major value comes down by the goal line where the Ravens love to use his big body. Consider McClain just a flex option in deeper leagues for the time being.
News: In the Ravens' Week 1 win vs. the Chiefs, RB Le'Ron McClain took a backup role but still managed to get 19 rush yards on six carried with 23 receiving yards on three catches. McClain also scored on a goal-line plunge following a 22-yard Ray Rice run.
Analysis: McClain is going to be a candidate for this kind of stat line each week. Figure him to be worth no more than seven or eight Fantasy points so long as he's getting few reps behind Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. If you're desperate for RB help, consider him a low-end option when he plays at San Diego in Week 2.
News:LeRon McClain and the Baltimore Ravens will face a non-division opponent in Week 1 when they play host to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs finished last season with the third worst run defense in the NFL, allowing 158.9 yards per game on the ground and 25 touchdowns.
Analysis: This would seem like a good matchup for McClain, but the fact remains that he is going to be used mainly as a blocking fullback and that will limit his carries. He could still be a candidate for goal-line work, but is a real stretch as a starter this week in Fantasy.
News: Ravens FB LeRon McClain on how he's taking RBs Ray Rice and Willis McGahee getting some of his carries this season after McClain carried the running game last year: "Whatever my role is I just want to be the best fullback in the league. I'll do whatever it takes to get to the Super Bowl."
Analysis: McClain has moved to FB this year and will likely do more blocking than carrying the ball. He could still be a candidate for goal-line work, but he's only worth a late-round flier on Draft Day.
News: Baltimore RB Ray Rice played well in the third preseason game against Carolina on Saturday. He had 10 carries for 32 yards and caught eight passes for 67 yards. Willis McGahee scored a rushing touchdown and finished with six carries for 16 yards and caught three passes for 8 yards. LeRon McClain also had two carries for 3 yards and caught one pass for 1 yard.
Analysis: McClain is clearly the No. 3 option in the backfield and will spend more time blocking than touching the ball. We still feel McClain will have the opportunity to score touchdowns in the red zone, but you should only draft McClain as a late-round pick this season.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Ray Rice continues to run with the first-team offense. Willis McGahee has shown more of a commitment in training camp, but he remains with the second team. The team is expected to use a trio this season that will also feature LeRon McClain.
Analysis: Even though offensive coordinator Cam Cameron wants a running back by committee, Rice could get the most carries this season. McGahee will likely have an impact on offense but he could get fewer touches than Ray Rice. McClain should also get significant touches. What we envision is Rice and McGahee splitting the majority of production in terms of yards, with McClain doing the short-yardage work and scoring touchdowns. Consider Rice a No. 3 Fantasy RB, McGahee a No. 4 option and McClain a late-round flier.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said recently he "could see all three of them in the game at the same time" when referring to RBs Ray Rice, Willis McGahee and LeRon McClain. Said Cameron, who plans to use all three in a committee this year: "We've got three good running backs, and I think everybody is clear that you need three guys, at least."
Analysis: Fantasy owners don't want to hear this because McClain and McGahee were good in 2008, and Rice has the potential to be good if given enough reps. What we envision is Rice and McGahee splitting the majority of production in terms of yards, with McClain doing the short-yardage work and scoring touchdowns. Consider Rice a No. 3 Fantasy RB, McGahee a No. 4 option and McClain a late-round flier.
News: Ravens Coach John Harbaugh on RB Willis McGahee's performance at his first practice Friday: "He was explosive and ran a couple of people over." Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron on McGahee, Ray Rice and LeRon McClain: "We are going to be running back by committee. You could see all three of them out there at the same time, or you could see any combination of the two."
Analysis: This is what we expected with McGahee, Rice and McClain. Rice entered training camp as the starter, but McGahee will be a factor and McClain could see short-yardage and goal-line reps. Consider Rice a No. 3 Fantasy RB, McGahee a No. 4 option and McClain is only worth a late-round flier. The biggest loss for the Ravens running game was FB Lorenzo Neal leaving, and that will impact the entire group.
News: In an interview with CBSSports.com, Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron denies labeling Le'Ron McClain as a fullback and says he plans to use him as a running back, among other roles. "I'm not sure where that came from. He's a running back. That's the way I view him," Cameron said. "To me, Lorenzo Neal is a fullback, and a great one. Le'Ron, to me, and I felt like this when I saw him in college, is a potential running back. He's also a guy that can play fullback, play tailback, and actually we're going to use him a little bit at tight end this year. He's just a football player that can do multiple things. He will definitely get carries like he did last year. Probably not as many just because our pass protection unit has evolved, Joe [Flacco] has evolved, we have more tight ends this year. So he won't get the number of carries but he's going to carry the football."
Analysis: We expect the Ravens to utilize Willis McGahee and Ray Rice a lot at running back, only going to McClain on a regular basis if one or both of their rushers get hurt. That said, McClain should still have a role as a goal-line back, and that gives him some Fantasy value. He's worth a late-round pick in drafts this summer as a reserve option. You can read more of our interview with Cam Cameron here.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports Ravens coach John Harbaugh said FB LeRon McClain is heavier than a year ago and has to lose about 10 to 12 pounds heading into training camp. But Harbaugh said it's not a big deal. "LeRon is different this year from last year," said Harbaugh. "He had the offseason with us. LeRon has been here every day from March 16th on that we've had a workout. He's really worked hard. He's probably 10 or 12 pounds heavier than he'll be when we play, but he's also in great shape. So, although, he is carrying a lot of weight, cardiovascularly and strength-wise, he's in really good shape."
Analysis: It could be that McClain added weight for his new role as a FB since he'll be blocking more. But even though he's out of position from last year and will no longer get the majority of touches as an RB, he's still a potential source for touchdowns and is worth a late-round pick in all drafts.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens RB/FB LeRon McClain appears to be about 20 pounds overweight and might not be in peak physical shape for the start of training camp.
Analysis: Such a report might add fuel to the fire that McClain simply isn't in the best shape to run, and that's why he's been relegated to fullback. This is not good news and as a result pushes McClain further down the rank list. If he makes weight, we like him to be a goal-line vulture for the Ravens worth a late-round pick in drafts.
News: The Carroll County Times reports with RB Willis McGahee (ankle) not practicing during Tuesday's OTA workout, Ray Rice and Cedric Peerman turned in strong performances.
Analysis: With the news that LeRon McClain is being moved to fullback, Rice has increased Fantasy value as a handcuff option to McGahee, especially with McGahee's injury woes. Peerman should now be considered in the mix as well. While we would expect McClain to factor in if McGahee goes down, the Ravens appear set to keep him at fullback and go with Rice and Peerman as the backup options at tailback.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that Le'Ron McClain, last year's surprise rusher who led the Ravens in rushing yards, will be moved back to fullback in 2009. The team appears ready to lean on Willis McGahee and Ray Rice at running back for much of the year, and they want McClain to fill in for the departed Lorenzo Neal. McClain had 232 carries for 902 yards (3.9 avg.) and 10 touchdowns, adding 19 catches for 123 yards and another touchdown with four fumbles. "Le'Ron isn't the player he was a year ago," offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said. "He reminds me a lot of Lorenzo Neal. In my mind, [Neal] is still here."
Analysis: McClain got a minimal amount of work at tailback during the club's recent minicamp when McGahee left with a knee tweak. McClain also said he'll take advantage of every carry he gets since he still likes the idea of being a running back. We don't see anyone on the Ravens roster better suited to work in short-yardage/goal-line situations, and we doubt we'll see McClain's workload whittle down to nothing, so he should still be good for some touchdowns inside the 5. Plus, McGahee has been limited in recent years with some ailments and Rice has yet to establish any consistency to his game, so there's always the possibility that the Ravens will plug McClain back in at running back during the year if they need him. Obviously, the loss of regular work crushes his preseason Fantasy value, making him no more than a top-end reserve option who should be one of those six-point-or-nothing options as a touchdown vulture during the season. Grab him with a middle- to late-round pick in drafts this summer.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain only touched the ball one time in Sunday's AFC title game loss to the Steelers. Willis McGahee got the bulk of the touches with 20 carries for 60 yards and two touchdowns before injuring his neck and McClain run for just three yards.
Analysis: McClain may have re-aggravated the ankle sprain that has been plaguing him for a while now. He'll be just fine for next season and will likely enter training camp in a role similar to what he had this year as a sometimes-starter and a rep sharer with goal-line carries. That should make him a good low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 6 in drafts this summer.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain bounced back from not practicing on Wednesday and was limited on Thursday and Friday while preparing for the team's AFC Championship Game at the Steelers. McClain has been bothered by an ankle injury that he aggravated against the Titans last week. He's listed as questionable for the game but is expected to play.
Analysis: In two games this year against the Steelers, McClain had 39 carries for 150 yards with a touchdown and three catches for 26 yards. But if he's hurt, don't expect him to get many more than a dozen touches in the game, and that's also if the Ravens hang around and aren't forced to pass. McClain is usable in playoff Fantasy play if he's active, but don't expect monster stats. In 2009, McClain will register as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain did not practice on Wednesday as he rests an ankle injury suffered at Tennessee last week. He is considered questionable for the team's AFC Championship Game at Pittsburgh on Sunday.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain carried 12 times but did little against the tough Titans defense in Saturday's Divisional Playoff game. The Ravens managed to win the game despite McClain rushing for just 12 yards and Willis McGahee rushing 12 times for 32 yards.
Analysis: McClain just couldn't get it done against the Titans but the Ravens did anyway. He rushed 19 times for 75 yards and a score against the Dolphins in Miami in the Wild Card game and he'll remain the Ravens' top back in the AFC Championship game against either the Steelers or Chargers. If the Ravens play Pittsburgh, McClain will have lower value in playoff leagues but against the Chargers would be a good start. Coach John Harbaugh really liked the second-year back and he is likely to be a key part of the offense again in 2009. However, if he is still sharing time with Ray Rice and Willis McGahee, look to McClain as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy RB.
News: Ravens QB LeRon McClain carried the ball 19 times for 75 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens Wild Card playoff game at Miami on Sunday. His long on the day went for only 11 yards, but he was able to punish Dolphins defenders with some tough, short runs. The 260-pound back now has touchdowns in his last three games.
Analysis: McClain is going to be the go-to back for the Ravens no matter how far they go in the playoffs barring an injury. He remains a No. 2 Fantasy RB in playoff formats. The Ravens' next game playoff game is at Tennessee, a defense that's even tougher than Miami's.
News:LeRon McClain ran for two touchdowns in the pivotal first half, and the Ravens routed the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-7 Week 17 to earn an AFC wild-card berth. McClain, a seldom-used fullback in 2007, ran for 70 yards and finished with a team-high 902 for the season. He scored from five yards out in the second quarter for a 10-7 lead and then again from 1-yard out later in the period for a 24-7 lead.
Analysis: McClain turned into the Ravens' go-to-back down the stretch. He carried the ball 20 or more times in the final five games and scored five times in his last six games. Coach John Harbaugh really liked the second-year back and he is likely to be a key part of the offense again in 2009. However, if he is still sharing time with Ray Rice and Willis McGahee, look to McClain as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy RB. Consider McClain about a No. 2 Fantasy RB for playoff formats in 2008.
News: Ravens RB Willis McGahee ran 77 yards for a lead-stretching touchdown when things got tight late in the fourth quarter of Baltimore's 33-24 win over Dallas on Saturday night of Week 16. Then, LeRon McClain topped that by going 83 yards for the real victory-clinching touchdown with 1:18 left. McClain finished with 22 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown in the game and added one catch for four yards. It was his first 100-yard rushing game of the season.
Analysis: McGahee had his late burst in the game but McClain got the bulk of the work and that should continue in Week 17 against Jacksonville, especially after his own late-game heroics. Consider McClain a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB, and the better option, in Week 17 against Jacksonville's decent rush defense.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain will see a bigger bulk of carries in Week 16's Saturday night game at Dallas with rookie RB Ray Rice inactive for the second straight week. He'll still share some of the carries with Willis McGahee but McClain is expected to get the greater amount of touches.
Analysis: The Cowboys are No. 7 in run defense with only eight rushing touchdowns allowed and should remain tough against McClain and the Ravens this week. You should also plan on benching Willis McGahee as well since he's been non-existent for the second half of the season. Consider McClain a No. 3 Fantasy RB in this matchup.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain could find the end zone in Week 16 at Dallas since he's scored in three of his past five games, but the Cowboys defense has stepped up the past two weeks against some of the best running teams in the NFL. Dallas has stuffed Pittsburgh and the Giants the past two games and didn't allow a rushing touchdown in either game.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain carried the rushing load for Baltimore Week 15 against the Steelers with Ray Rice out of the lineup with a calf injury. McClain had a team-high 23 carries for 87 yards. He didn't get a touchdown for the second time in three games, but it was the third straight game McClain got 20 or more carries.
Analysis: McClain has managed 80 or more rushing yards in three of his last four games and seems to be the Ravens' top choice to run the football as of late. He doesn't have breakaway speed like Rice, so getting 100 yards might be tough for McClain. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy RB or 'flex' option heading into Week 16 against the Cowboys.
News: Ravens RB Ray Rice (calf) has been ruled inactive for Week 15 vs. Pittsburgh. Rice came into the game as doubtful after missing practice all week. Le'Ron McClain and Willis McGahee will split carries in his place.
Analysis: Rice was expected to miss the Steelers' game, so this is not shocking news. He has good upside, but since he is usually part of a trio that shares carries when healthy, he has minimal Fantasy appeal in seasonal leagues. McClain has been a nice surprise this season for the Ravens and had 63 yards and one touchdown in his first game against Pittsburgh. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy RB or 'flex' option Week 15. McGahee, who can also be considered a No. 3 Fantasy RB or 'flex' option, had 42 rushing yards and no touchdowns in his first game against the Steelers.
News: In the Ravens' 24-10 win vs. the Redskins in Week 14, RB LeRon McClain scored on an 8-yard run in the first quarter and helped pace his team to a win thanks to a 20-carry performance good for 61 yards. He led his team in rushing attempts and rushing yards once again.
Analysis: McClain will attempt to score again next in Week 15 when the Ravens entertain the Steelers. In his Week 4 game at Pittsburgh, McClain had 63 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown and three catches for 26 yards. Clearly, he was able to be productive against a stiff Steelers defense even though the Ravens lost 23-20. He's also the most reliable running back in Baltimore's stable and should be viewed as a No. 3 option for his next game.
News:Willis McGahee has become the forgotten man in the Ravens' running game, and he apparently isn't the least bit frustrated or angry about his pronounced lack of playing time. During a 34-3 rout of Cincinnati on Sunday, McGahee watched from the sideline as LeRon McClain and rookie Ray Rice shared the workload in what used to be a potent three-pronged attack. McGahee led the Ravens in rushing last year and went to the Pro Bowl, yet this season he has fewer yards and attempts than McClain, who had eight carries as a rookie fullback last year. After reaching 1,000 yards rushing in three of the last four seasons, McGahee has only 489 yards in 2008 and appears to have plummeted from atop the depth chart. McGahee is dealing with an ailing left knee, a sore right ankle and bruised ribs. That may have been the reason he didn't play against the Bengals, although coach John Harbaugh eluded the issue and McGahee said, "I don't have an answer."
Analysis: The benching came after McGahee rushed for only 8 yards in seven tries against Philadelphia. The week before that, he gained 18 yards on nine carries against the New York Giants. At 260 pounds, McClain was better equipped to punish the Cincinnati defense than the 232-pound McGahee. But that doesn't explain why the 205-pound Rice is now apparently the second option in the rotation. Rice has gained 423 yards on 104 carries and ranks second on the team with 31 catches. McClain received his first NFL start at tailback against the Bengals and might get the call Sunday against the Redskins. Harbaugh isn't tipping his hand - to either the media or his players. For now, consider McGahee a low-end No. 3 Fantasy option with McClain and Rice ahead of him going into Week 14. It sounds like McGahee could see the field, but don't expect him to do much against the Redskins.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he will continue to use three running backs for the rest of the season, and he also said the team has plans for Willis McGahee even though McGahee didn't play Sunday against the Bengals. LeRon McClain led the Ravens with 25 carries for 86 yards, and Ray Rice had 11 carries for 41 yards and four catches for 14 yards against the Bengals.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with McGahee going into Week 14 against Washington, but for now don't plan on starting him against the Redskins until we hear otherwise. McClain remains the best Fantasy RB in Baltimore, and Rice is a backup option at best.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain led Baltimore rushers for a second straight week Sunday when he ran 25 times for 86 yards in a Week 13 victory over the Bengals.
Analysis: It looks like McClain has grabbed hold of the No. 1 RB job in Baltimore right now, which makes him an intriguing option in deeper Fantasy leagues for the rest of the way. Of course, things could always change without any notice as Ray Rice and Willis McGahee are capable runners themselves when healthy. Think of McClain as a sleeper 'flex' option in Week 14 vs. the Redskins.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain is probable for Week 13 at Cincinnati after being limited in practice with a thigh injury all week. McClain led the Ravens in rushing in Week 12 with 88 yards on 18 carries and a score. He's got six rushing touchdowns on the season and faces a Bengals team he totaled over 100 yards against in Week 1.
Analysis: The Ravens' running game is always tough to predict because of Willis McGahee, who doesn't always post huge numbers but can take reps away from McClain. The one nice thing about McClain is that he is always the guy they'll use at the goal line, and that gives him Fantasy value as at least a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB. Considering that the Ravens will run the ball a lot against Cincy, McClain isn't a bad option in deeper leagues.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain (thigh) is banged up and was able to get through just a limited practice on Wednesday in preparation for Week 13 against the Bengals. McClain led the Ravens in rushing in Week 12 with 88 yards on 18 carries and a score. He's got six rushing touchdowns on the season while playing most of the year behind Willis McGahee and Ray Rice.
Analysis: The 88 yards represented a career high for McClain, who looked like the primary option out of the backfield last week. He'll still have to split carries, however, and shouldn't be trusted as anything greater than a No. 3 Fantasy option for Week 13 at Cincy.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain got the biggest share of carries out of the team's three-headed backfield Week 12 against the Eagles. He gained 88 yards on 18 carries, scoring on a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He went without a reception.
Analysis: The 88 yards represented a career high for McClain, who looked like the primary option out of the backfield this week. He still has to split carries with Willis McGahee and Ray Rice, though, and entered the game with single-digit carries in five of his last six. You shouldn't trust him as more than a No. 3 Fantasy option in Week 13 at Cincinnati.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had two carries for 10 yards and three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown Sunday at the Giants.
Analysis: McClain shared carries and playing time with Ray Rice (eight carries for 19 yards and four catches for 18 yards) and Willis McGahee (nine carries for 18 yards and two catches for 7 yards), but McClain scored on a receiving score. Still, consider McClain a No. 4 Fantasy RB in Week 12 against Philadelphia since it appears McGahee and Rice receive more action.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain, who ended his three-game touchdown drought with a 14-carry, 34-yard performance in Week 9, got only five touches Week 10 at Houston. He finished with four carries for 19 yards and one catch for six.
Analysis: The Ravens sometimes turn to McClain at the goal line, but Willis McGahee handled those carries in his return to the starting lineup this week. McClain now looks like the third wheel in the Raven's three-headed backfield tandem and is at best a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB in Week 11 at the Giants.
News: According to Ian Eagle on Fantasy Football Today, Ravens RB McGahee is active for Week 10 at Houston after taking limited practice reps this week because of an ankle injury. He, Ray Rice and LeRon McClain will split carries.
Analysis: In the past, McGahee would likely get most of the work, but keep in mind he was active last week and didn't get a single carry. Meanwhile, Rice rushed for 154 yards on 21 carries, so he could end up bumping into McGahee's workload more than usual. Also, McClain will likely get carries at the goal line. Obviously, the Ravens' backfield situation is a mess at the moment, and you might be better off avoiding all three of these guys even with the nice matchup. If you have to go with one, though, go with Rice.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 10 at Houston. McClain returned to a full practice Friday after limited reps Thursday. He is expected to be in uniform Sunday as a backup running back. In his team's 37-27 win at Cleveland in Week 9, McClain split the workload with rookie Ray Rice and had 34 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown plunge.
Analysis: The Ravens are expected to get Willis McGahee back in Week 10 against Houston and that could cause a bit of a jam at the tailback spot. The winners would likely be Rice and McGahee, who figure to split carries, with McClain taking a back seat. For now, continue to view McClain as a goal-line back that might get you six points or no points in any given week. For what it's worth, he has a good matchup in Week 10 at Houston, who has allowed a dozen rush TDs this season.
News: Not listed on the injury practice report on Wednesday, Baltimore backup RB LeRon McClain found himself limited in Thursday's practice with an ankle injury. In his team's 37-27 win at Cleveland in Week 9, McClain split the workload with rookie Ray Rice and had 34 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown plunge.

News: In his team's 37-27 win at Cleveland, Baltimore RB LeRon McClain split the workload with rookie Ray Rice and had 34 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown plunge. He also made a 3-yard catch. Rice and McClain saw extended reps because Willis McGahee was nursing and injury and didn't play.
Analysis: McClain regains some Fantasy relevance with this game, but there's no telling if he'll keep up this workload when McGahee gets healthy. Of course, there's no telling when McGahee will be fully healthy, either. For now, continue to view McClain as a goal-line back that might get you six points or no points in any given week. For what it's worth, he has a good matchup in Week 10 at Houston, who has allowed a dozen rush TDs this season.
News: As first reported on Fantasy Football Today, Ravens RB Willis McGahee is active for Week 9 at Cleveland but will be a game-time decision to start. As CBS analyst Rich Gannon mentioned on the show, Ray Rice is expected to shoulder a sizable portion of the Baltimore running game with LeRon McClain also a candidate to work at the goal line.
Analysis: Suddenly, McGahee's outlook for Week 9 isn't as rosy. Expect him to split carries with Rice against a Browns run defense that has improved over the past couple of weeks. Figure both Ravens RBs to be No. 3 Fantasy rushers, with LeRon McClain likely to get involved as well.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain (ankle) was able to practice in full all week and is probable for Week 9 at Cleveland.
Analysis: McClain saw seven carries for 32 yards in Week 8 against Oakland and the Ravens continue to run both he and Ray Rice around 5-10 times per game behind Willis McGahee. McGahee is still the No. 1 option and McClain should be continued to be looked at as a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 9 at the Browns. He might be good for a handful of yards and a goal-line score.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain (ankle) was able to practice in full on Wednesday and Thursday and is probable for Week 9 at Cleveland.

News: Ravens RB Ray Rice led the team in rushing in Week 8 against Oakland. He rushed eight times for 64 yards. He also caught three passes for 37 yards, giving him 101 total yards. Willis McGahee got the majority of the carries (23) in the game, gaining 58 yards. McGahee scored on a 1-yard run and had another touchdown called back. Le'Ron McClain also saw seven carries for 32 yards and caught a one-yard pass.
Analysis: McGahee had been listed on the injury report as probable with a knee injury, but was healthy enough to tote the ball 23 times. The Ravens got creative in the running game, bringing in backup QB Troy Smith to run a 'wildcat' type of offense. On a couple of those plays, they ran option plays to Rice that were successful. McGahee is still the top dog in Baltimore and should be considered a solid No. 2 Fantasy running back while healthy. Rice and McClain should be considered low-end options while seeing under 10 carries per game.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain ran six times for 17 yards and caught three passes for 10 yards as Willis McGahee (105 yards rushing) overshadowed him in a Week 7 win over Miami.
Analysis: McClain now has two sub-par performances in a row and with McGahee finally breaking out in Week 7, McClain's owners should be a little worried right now. He will still get the goal-line carries for Baltimore, so he does have some value as a 'flex' option heading into Week 8, but you should temper your expectations for the time being.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had two carries for minus-2 yards and one catch for 2 yards Sunday at the Colts. He also lost a fumble. McClain had scored four touchdowns in his past three games and failed to take advantage of a good matchup against the Colts.
Analysis: Indianapolis had the worst run defense in the NFL coming into the game but managed to shut down the Ravens and McClain. Look for McClain to bounce back in Week 7 at Miami. Consider McClain a No. 3 Fantasy RB against the Dolphins.
News: Baltimore RB LeRon McClain has looked pretty good this season with starter Willis McGahee suffering various injuries and being limited. McClain has 63 carries for 266 yards and four touchdowns and is coming off a solid performance against the Titans last week. The Ravens meet the Colts in Week 6 and Indianapolis is the worst rush defense in the NFL.
Analysis: The Colts porous run defense bodes extremely well for McClain. The Ravens figure to continue to give him his fair share of carries behind McGahee and McClain has been doing more with what he's been given. We like him better than McGahee in Week 6 and consider him a solid No. 2 Fantasy RB against the Colts.
News: In a 13-10 loss to the Titans in Week 5, Ravens RB LeRon McClain scored and had 51 rush yards on 11 carries -- exactly half as many as starter Willis McGahee. McClain added 12 yards on a pair of catches.
Analysis: This is his third touchdown in four games. McClain will have a shot to score and post quality numbers in Week 6 when the Ravens play at the Colts, whose run defense has been shredded for much of this season. Figure McClain to be a No. 3 Fantasy RB for the coming week's action.
News: Listed as questionable for Week 5 vs. Tennessee, Ravens RB Willis McGahee will be a game-time decision on Sunday. McGahee is battling a rib injury suffered in Week 4 at Pittsburgh. LeRon McClain would start for the Ravens if McGahee can't go, or would start if McGahee is active and not at full strength.
Analysis: With the run-stuffing Titans coming to Baltimore this week, it's a good time to sit McGahee. McClain has been outproducing him for the balance of the season anyway. Consider McClain a No. 3 Fantasy RB and McGahee a low-end option if you're needy at the position. We'll have his official status this Sunday on Fantasy Football Today, starting at 11 a.m. ET.
News: For the third straight game to open the season, Ravens RB LeRon McClain led his team in rushing Week 4 at Pittsburgh, finishing with 16 carries for 63 yards and three catches for 26. He ran two yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. He didn't look like he'd play a critical role on offense until Willis McGahee left in the second quarter with a chest injury.
Analysis: The Ravens keep trying to give McGahee a chance to perform, but he keeps leaving with one injury or another. As well as McClain has played, he's probably worked his way into some sort of timeshare when McGahee returns for good. He keeps scoring points, but you can't think of him as more than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy option Week 5 against the Titans because of his uncertain role.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain, who missed some practice this week with a migrane and an ankle injury, wasn't listed among the inactives for Week 4 at Pittsburgh, meaning he'll suit up and play.
Analysis: McClain actually leads the Ravens in rushing and scored two touchdowns last week, but Willis McGahee remains the better Fantasy option. Think of McClain as just last resort option Week 4.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain (migrane, ankle) is listed as probable for Week 4 at Pittsburgh. McClain was at full practice Friday after sitting out Thursday. McClain and Ray Rice could split carries if RB Willis McGahee (eye), who is also listed as probable, is not ready to play.
Analysis: McClain is part of a trio of backs the Ravens employ to keep everyone fresh and the defense guessing. McGahee is more of a slasher, Rice runs north and south, and McClain is like a pickup truck with legs. McClain leads the Ravens (2-0) with 152 yards rushing and last week scored his first two career touchdowns in a 28-10 rout of the Cleveland Browns. Consider McClain a low-end Fantasy RB heading into Week 4. It appears as though he will play.
News:LeRon McClain is built to punish opposing defenses, usually as a bruising fullback running in front of a slick-footed ball carrier. That was how the Baltimore Ravens used the 6-foot, 260-pounder as a rookie last season. During training camp, however, an injury to Willis McGahee and the addition of fullback Lorenzo Neal enabled offensive coordinator Cam Cameron to try something different. Cameron wanted to see what would happen if McClain got a full head of steam with the football cradled in his arm. McClain proved to be very difficult to bring down, and two games into the regular season the experiment is considered to be an unqualified success. McClain leads the Ravens (2-0) with 152 yards rushing and last week scored his first two career touchdowns in a 28-10 rout of the Cleveland Browns. What makes those numbers even more impressive is that McClain totaled 170 yards on the ground during his entire career at Alabama, and last year rushed for 18 yards in eight carries with Baltimore.
Analysis: McClain is part of a trio of backs the Ravens employ to keep everyone fresh and the defense guessing. McGahee is more of a slasher, Ray Rice runs north and south, and McClain is like a pickup truck with legs. With McGahee (eye) not at 100 percent, keep an eye on McClain possibly getting increased carries against the Steelers this week. However, McClain also has to fight off the injury bug since he did not practice Thursday because of a back/ankle problem. For now, consider McClain a low-end No. 4 Fantasy option, if he is healthy.
News: Ravens plunderer LeRon McClain was limited in practice Wednesday with ankle and back issues. No additional news is known on his status. McClain has been sneaking carries for the Ravens, especially when they build leads and need a running back to drain the clock.
Analysis: McClain has 152 yards and two touchdowns through two games and could continue being a goal-line back for Baltimore in addition to a quality option behind McGahee. Only if you're desperate for a starter in Week 3 should you consider McClain in Week 4 vs. the tough-as-nails Steelers run defense.
News: Ravens backup RB LeRon McClain out-performed starter Willis McGahee on Sunday against the Browns. McClain scored his first two NFL touchdowns on a pair of 1-yard runs -- both during a 21-point third quarter. He also led the team in rushing with 17 carries for 66 yards.
Analysis: Could this mean that McClain is going to be the goal-line guy for the Ravens this season? It's definitely possible. He's had two solid weeks this year as he rushed for 86 yards in McGahee's absence in Week 1. He's not worth starting in Week 4 at Pittsburgh just yet but if this trend continues you better go pick him up off the waiver wire.
News: The Baltimore Ravens-Houston Texans game was rescheduled to Nov. 9 after Reliant Stadium was severely damaged by Hurricane Ike, meaning both teams will not play in Week 2. The new date also affects the Cincinnati Bengals' schedule. Houston was originally scheduled to play the Bengals on Nov. 9. Now, those teams will play on Oct. 26 and Cincinnati will take its bye week on Nov. 9, when the Texans now play the Ravens.
Analysis: It's all a little confusing, but basically Fantasy owners need to treat Week 2 as a bye week for the Texans and Ravens. So if you have any players active from either team, get them reserved immediately. Houston and Baltimore will not have another bye week the rest of the way. The Ravens will next play Cleveland at home in Week 3, giving players like LeRon McClain extra time to heal. He had been listed as probable for Week 2.
News: The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens RB Willis McGahee wants a "full workload" for the club's Week 2 game at Houston (now scheduled for Monday night). Not only has McGahee been at practice all week, but he has averaged 5.3 yards per carry against the Texans, his second-highest average vs. any team that he has carried the ball more than 20 times against. If it's up to offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, McGahee is playing as of now. "He's taking more reps this week. We're working to increase his stamina and conditioning," Cameron said. "As of (Thursday), he's got a role in this game."
Analysis: The Ravens aren't ready to commit to how much McGahee will play against the Texans, but it appears as though he will be on the field barring any setbacks. That's the good news. The bad news is that because of the success rookie Ray Rice and Le'Ron McClain had last week pounding the ball, they'll be involved in running the football too. The best thing to do is play it safe and consider McGahee a No. 3 Fantasy RB this week, which means McClain isn't worth using unless you're desperate at running back.
News: Thanks to Willis McGahee not being able to play Week 1 against the Bengals because of a knee injury, Ravens RB LeRon McClain benefited with a career performance. The second-year back split carries with rookie Ray Rice but led the team with 86 yards -- a career-high -- on 19 carries, also a career best. McClain also finished second on the team with 24 receiving yards on two catches.
Analysis: If only McClain scored a touchdown Week 1 during the 17-10 win, it would have been that much more outstanding. McClain was a good back in college at Alabama, but never really got to shine last season under Brian Billick. Really, he won't get that chance in 2008 unless something long-term happens to McGahee. If McGahee is out Week 2 against the Texans, McClain might be a decent Fantasy flex option in larger leagues. If McGahee plays, McClain will return to his third-string status.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had only 17 touches in 2007 as a backup and contributor on special teams. He had eight carries for 18 yards and caught nine passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: McClain's role could increase if Musa Smith leaves as a free agent and with Mike Anderson turning 35 next year and largely ineffective since coming to Baltimore. McClain will compete with Cory Ross for carries, but he will not make much of a Fantasy impact in 2008 and should not be drafted in any leagues.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain rushed one time for two yards during a Week 16 loss to the Seahawks. It was the first time he carried the ball in five games. He now has seven carries for 16 yards on the season.
Analysis: McClain is valuable to the Ravens as a blocking fullback, but he doesn't get enough touches to be considered in Fantasy leagues. Ignore him heading into Week 17 against the Steelers.
News: Ravens RB Justin Green, RB LeRon McClain, TE Lee Vickers and WR Matt Willis all dressed for Baltimore's 22-16 overtime loss to the Dolphins in Week 15, but failed to record an offensive stat.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value at this time. The Ravens visit Seattle in Week 16.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain caught one pass for nine yards Week 14 against the Colts.
Analysis: As a fullback, McClain does more blocking than anything else. Leave him on waivers for Week 15 at Miami.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain, RB Justin Green, RB Cory Ross, QB Troy Smith, WR Matt Willis and TE Lee Vickers didn't record statistics Week 13 against the Patriots.
Analysis: None of these players contributes enough statistically to have value in Fantasy. Leave all on waivers for Week 14 against the Colts.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain will never forget Week 12 against the Chargers. Baltimore was handed a 32-14 loss, but the rookie out of Alabama recorded his first NFL touchdown on a 13-yard reception from Kyle Boller in the third quarter. It was his lone catch in the game.
Analysis: McClain continues to fill the role of fullback for the Ravens, but only appears in the offensive gameplan for a few touches per game. It is not enough to consider him in Fantasy leagues. Leave him on Fantasy waivers Week 13 against the Patriots.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had one carry for no yards Sunday against Cleveland.
Analysis: McClain has no Fantasy value and should not be used in Week 12 at San Diego.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had one catch for 4 yards Sunday against the Bengals.
Analysis: McClain has minimal Fantasy value and should not be used in Week 11 against Cleveland.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had one carry for three yards Week 9 at Pittsburgh.
Analysis: McClain blocks more than he runs or catches, which makes him worthless in Fantasy. Keep him on waivers for Week 10 against the Bengals.
News: Ravens TE Lee Vickers, RB LeRon McClain, WR Yamon Figurs and RB Justin Green all dressed but did not record an offensive stat Week 7 against the Bills.
Analysis: Most of these players either contribute on special teams or as reserve bodies on the Ravens' depth chart. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time. The Ravens are on a bye Week 8.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain rushed one time for three yards during a Week 6 win over the Rams. He has four carries for 11 yards on the season.
Analysis: McClain, the rookie out of Alabama, does most of his work as the Ravens blocking fullback and hardly factors into the offensive game. He is not a recommended Fantasy option fo Week 7 at Buffalo.
News: Ravens RBs Musa Smith (five rushes, two yards), Le'Ron McClain (one rush, two yards) and WR Yamon Figurs (one rush, minus-one yard) all had minor contributions in Baltimore's 9-7 win over San Francisco in Week 5.
Analysis: Smith only has value as an insurance policy for Willis McGahee owners, while McClain and Figurs have no Fantasy value at this time. Baltimore host St. Louis in Week 6.
News: QB Kyle Boller, WR Yamon Figurs, FB Justin Green, FB LeRon McClain and WR Deward Darling all dressed but did not record an offensive statistic Week 4 vs. Green Bay. Figurs did fumble away a kick return.
Analysis: Boller is the only one of these players with any Fantasy value, although it's very minimal, even if he starts. The Ravens play at San Francisco in Week 4.
News: Ravens RB LeRon McClain had one catch for 1 yard Sunday against Arizona.
Analysis: McClain has no Fantasy value and should not be used in Week 4 against Cleveland.
News: Ravens RBs Musa Smith had three carries for eight yards and one 10-yard catch in Baltimore's Week 2 victory over the Jets, while Le'Ron McClain had two rushes for six yards and a nine-yard reception.
Analysis: Smith is only worth having as a backup for Willis McGahee, while McClain is only a blocking full back and might get the odd goal line carry. Neither are worth using in Week 3 vs. Arizona.
News: Ravens RB Le'Ron McClain caught three passes for 13 yards in Week 1 at the Bengals. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: McClain is a fullback who mostly blocks and doesn't contribute meaningful statistics. If you started him in your Fantasy league Week 1, he likely scored you negative points, so don't make the same mistake Week 2 against the Jets.
News: The Ravens and FB Le'Ron McClain have agreed to a rookie contract, the team announced. McClain will compete for the starting fullback job in training camp.
Analysis: Whether he wins the starting job or not, McClain should not be considered useful for Fantasy play.
