News: The Panthers were very active the day after cut-down day on Sunday, picking up five players that other teams released. In turn, they had to shed some players to make room. Among the casualties were DE Everette Brown, WR David Clowney, S Kevin Payne and DE Thomas Keiser.
Analysis: All of the aforementioned players were potential reserve options for the team, but they had little to no Fantasy value. Ignore them in all formats until they make a mark elsewhere.
News: Panthers WR David Clowney had a 25-yard grab at Tampa Bay in Week 10. It was his first catch since Week 8.
Analysis: Clowney hasn't done much since the Panthers claimed him off waivers from the Jets. He's low on the depth chart for a team that struggles to throw the ball, so you can leave him on waivers in Fantasy.
News: Panthers WR David Clowney joined Carolina earlier in the week and made his debut with the team on Sunday against the Bears. He was targeted three times, catching two passes for 14 yards. He was the only Carolina receiver that was active and not a rookie.
Analysis: Clowney now has three catches on the year 36 yards. Carolina has a bye in Week 6, which will let veteran WR Steve Smith try to get healthy. If Smith can't go in Week 7 against the 49ers, Clowney will once again be the lone veteran receiver for either Jimmy Clausen or Matt Moore to target. The week off will give Clowney time to adjust to his new team, but with a young quarterback at the helm, he's not player to add just yet. Owners should monitor his next game against San Francisco before making a call on picking him up off waivers.
News: The Panthers have claimed WR David Clowney off waivers from the Jets, adding some needed depth to their receiving corps. "We had a chance to pick up off waivers a receiver we considered claiming when he became available four weeks ago," Panthers GM Marty Hurney said Tuesday. Clowney will likely play an immediate role for the Panthers Sunday as the only healthy non-rookie receiver on the roster.
Analysis: Clowney is known for big plays during the preseason but not having the opportunity to play big in the regular season. Maybe that can change in Carolina. Owners should simply monitor his play for now and not consider adding him to rosters.
News: The Jets announced on Monday that they waived WRs David Clowney and Patrick Turner to make room on the roster for Santonio Holmes. Clowney, who was cut before the season and re-signed after Week 1, had one catch for 22 yards.
Analysis: With Holmes coming back from suspension, there was simply no room left on the roster for Clowney. He has only caught 15 catches in his four-year career and should remain on waivers while he's out of a job.
News: Jets WR David Clowney, who had yet to catch a pass all season, hauled in a 22-yarder Week 3 at Miami. He remains behind Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery on the depth chart.
Analysis: Clowney will slip even further down the depth chart when Santonio Holmes returns from his suspension. Clearly, he's not going to make enough of a contribution to matter in Fantasy. You can leave him on waivers.
News: Jets WR David Clowney, who was re-signed on Tuesday, did not see much action against the Patriots in Week 2. The 25-year-old had just one ball thrown his way and did not record a catch in the 28-14 win.
Analysis: Clowney was resigned after the Jets waived Danny Woodhead but mainly sees time on special teams. He has only caught 15 catches in his four-year career and should remain on waivers in most leagues heading into Week 3 against the Dolphins.
News: The New York Jets re-signed wide receiver David Clowney on Tuesday after waiving Danny Woodhead. Clowney, who was cut on Sept. 5, was back with the team Tuesday.
Analysis: The Jets had only three true wide receivers on their roster -- Jerricho Cotchery, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith -- for Monday's loss to the Ravens and will now face the high-scoring New England Patriots in Week 2. Clowney has 15 career catches in two seasons with New York. It seems he could hold a roster spot down until Santonio Holmes finishes out his four-game suspension. However, we aren't sure Clowney is going to figure prominently in the passing game. Ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.
News: Veteran fullback Tony Richardson has been released by the New York Jets, part of a series of roster moves a day after the team got down to the mandatory 53-player limit. The Jets also waived wide receiver David Clowney and running back Chauncey Washington on Sunday, and claimed offensive tackle Patrick Brown (Minnesota), defensive tackle Marcus Dixon (Dallas) and wide receiver Patrick Turner (Miami) off waivers.
Analysis: Clowney has always been one of those players the Jets have been waiting on to reach his full potential, but he never did. Ignore Clowney in Fantasy until further notice.
News: WR David Clowney and RBs Danny Woodhead and Chauncey Washington are not among the players cut by the New York Jets as they set their 53-man roster. Both Woodhead and Washington had solid performances this summer, and it was a mild surprise Saturday that the Jets kept both. They give New York seven running backs, including Shonn Greene, LaDainian Tomlinson, struggling fourth-round pick Joe McKnight, and fullbacks Tony Richardson and fifth-round pick John Conner. The roster could still change Sunday, when teams look to pick up players who have been cut. Clowney was on the bubble all summer, but made the team - possibly as insurance until Santonio Holmes returns from a four-game suspension in Week 5.
Analysis: Clowney has minimal Fantasy value with the Jets already having Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery, Holmes and Brad Smith. Ignore Clowney in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: Legendary Jets special-teams coach Mike Westhoff told The Associated Press that wide receiver David Clowney is being groomed as the team's gunner. Clowney was previously a situational receiver with 15 career receptions over three years.
Analysis: Clowney's special-teams work is likely because of a lack of opportunity for him on offense now that he's buried on the depth chart. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Jets WR David Clowney totaled one catch for 11 yards during a Week 16 win against the Colts. He also was dropped for a 14-yard loss on a reverse.
Analysis: Clowney had a few games in the middle of the season that was worth noting in Fantasy, but he has since fallen off the radar. He has one catch or less in seven straight games. Don't use Clowney in Week 17 against the Bengals.
News: Jets receiver David Clowney caught one pass in the Week 14 win over the Bucs. The catch went for 6 yards.
Analysis: Clowney has a touchdown this season and has had a few decent games but more often than not, hes gone without getting any catches altogether. Clowney barely has any Fantasy value for Week 15 against the Falcons. You can leave him on waivers if hes there.
News: Jets WR David Clowney, who went two games without recording a reception, again without one Week 13 at Buffalo. He carried the ball once, though, picking up 13 yards.
Analysis: Clowney has only two carries on the season, so you shouldn't expect this to become a trend with him. He's a backup receiver on a run-first offense, which doesn't make for a favorable situation in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers for Week 14 at Tampa Bay.
News: The Jets had six players dress but fail to record an offensive stat Sunday with WR David Clowney, WR Wallace Wright, TE James Dearth, TE Ben Hartsock, FB Tony Richardson and WR Brad Smith.
Analysis: None of these players are worth using in Week 13 at Buffalo. They have minimal Fantasy vale in the majority of formats.
News: Jets WR David Clowney made one 7-yard catch in a Week 10 loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: Clowney is barely worth using in Fantasy play right now with Jerricho Cotchery healthy and you shouldn't use the former Virginia Tech star in any Fantasy formats for Week 11 at New England.
News: Jets WR David Clowney caught three passes for 16 yards in a Week 8 loss to Miami.
Analysis: Jerricho Cotchery returned to action on Sunday, which limited Clowney's touches a bit. Clowney is barely worth using in Fantasy play right now and should be benched in Week 9 as the Jets are off.
News: Jets WR David Clowney (ankle) was held out of practice on Wednesday but was able to return to practice in a limited practice on Thursday and Friday as the team prepares for its Week 8 game against the Dolphins. Clowney is considered questionable for the contest.
Analysis: With Jerricho Cotchery and Brad Smith both out with injury against Oakland in Week 7, Clowney was able to play a significant role in the win. He has had two of the best games of his career in New York's last three outings. This is definitely instilling confidence in the coaching staff. However, Clowney will move down the depth chart again as soon as Cotchery is healthy. Clowney is merely a Fantasy sleeper heading into Week 8 against the Dolphins. He had four catches for 72 yards against Miami in Week 5. Monitor his injury status the rest of the weekend before making a decision on him for Week 8.
News: Jets WR David Clowney ended up as the team's leading receiver during a Week 7 win against the Raiders. He had a team-high four receptions for 79 yards. Clowney also had the only receiving touchdown by a Jet as he hauled in a 35-yard catch from Mark Sanchez in the third quarter. It was his first career touchdown.
Analysis: With Jerricho Cotchery and Brad Smith both out with injury against Oakland, Clowney was able to play a significant role in the win.
News: Jets head coach Rex Ryan has confirmed that WR Jerricho Cotchery will not play on Sunday at Oakland due to his hamstring injury. Earlier this week he said Cotchery had a "real shot" to play. His tune changed on Friday: "We feel it's best that he stays back and rehabs," Ryan said. "I think [he] will be up next week." Expect David Clowney to get the start in place of Cotchery in Week 7.
Analysis: Clowney can't do much worse than he did in Week 6: Zero catches. He still has minimal value but is worth owning as a reserve in the deepest of leagues.
News: Jets WR David Clowney, WR Wallace Wright, RB Danny Woodhead, TE Ben Hartsock, TE James Dearth and QB Kellen Clemens didn't record offensive statistics against the Bills in Week 6.
Analysis: Clowney had a decent performance with Jerricho Cotchery out last week, but the Jets' passing game struggled too much for him to make an impact this week. He might deserve a look in deeper leagues for Week 7 at Oakland, but Cotchery might return by then. None of these other players ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy.
News: Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery, who didn't play much Week 5 because of a hamstring injury, is inactive for Week 6 against the Bills. He missed practice all week with the same injury. David Clowney could step up again in his absence.
Analysis: Cotchery had emerged as a must-start option in Fantasy before this hamstring injury hit. When he returns, he'll have to contend with Braylon Edwards for catches. The Jets visit the Raiders in Week 7, so if he's active, he's worth starting. But he's no guarantee to return at this point. Clowney could make an impact in his absence, but you should probably leave him for deeper leagues.
News: The Newark Star-Ledger reports that Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery will miss Week 6 vs. Buffalo with a hamstring injury. He reportedly aggravated the injury while playing at Miami last week. Teammate Brad Smith (foot) might also miss the game, giving David Clowney and Wallace Wright the chance to see significant playing time against the Bills, and possibly giving RB Danny Woodhead the chance to play as a receiver.
Analysis: With Cotchery out, we like Clowney to step up and see a healthy dose of reps. He's definitely worth adding since he's good at catching the deep ball and has a little bulk to him. Consider the third-year receiver a low-end No. 3 option this week but a guy who could develop into someone who could post decent totals so long as Cotchery is sidelined.
News: Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery missed a second straight day of practice Thursday because of a hamstring injury and was uncertain whether he'll be ready to play against Buffalo. "It doesn't look real good," coach Rex Ryan said. "We'll see how he is." Cotchery was injured in practice last Thursday and sat out two days before playing Monday night at Miami. "We're taking the same program we took last week," Cotchery said. "We're just trying to treat it hard everyday and put in those long hours everyday to make sure we're taking care of this thing." WR Brad Smith (quadriceps) also didn't practice for the second consecutive day. If both Cotchery and Smith can't go, David Clowney and Wallace Wright would see increased time. The Jets also might add a new wrinkle, with RB Danny Woodhead working at wide receiver during practice Thursday. Woodhead is currently on the practice squad and imitates opponents' top running backs and receivers on the scout team.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Cotchery and see if he can play against the Bills. He should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR if he's able to play. Smith has minimal Fantasy value when healthy, and Clowney, Wright and Woodhead should not be used in any leagues.
News: Jets WR David Clowney quadrupled his career production on Monday night against the Dolphins in Miami. Clowney, who had one career catch coming into the game, saw extended action with Jerricho Cotchery banged up. He had three catches by the end of the 3rd quarter and then connected with Mark Sanchez on a 53-yard bomb to begin the 4th. He had four catches for 72 yards before leaving in the 4th quarter with severe leg cramps in his left leg.
Analysis: Clowney is owned in 1 percent of Fantasy leagues but has had solid preseasons two straight years. Monday night's game may have been his breakout party as a deep-ball threat, but we still wouldn't recommend him for Week 6 against Buffalo. You need to start paying attention, though.
News: Maybe David Clowney should have retweeted his entire message to Rex Ryan. The New York Jets wide receiver called his benching for complaining about playing time a "minor misunderstanding" because the coach didn't see his entire comment on Twitter. Clowney said Wednesday that someone passed along to Ryan only the first half of his tweet, which was in response to a friend asking why he didn't see him on the field much during the Jets' 16-9 win over New England in Week 2. Clowney tweeted shortly after the win: "1 play in the 1st Half, 4 plays in the 2nd half ... A bit disappointed about my playing time but very happy and satisfied about the win." He added in a subsequent tweet that, "My team always comes first so I'ma just keep grinding." "Of course, he's not on Twitter," Clowney said of Ryan. "He's not on anything for him to see that for himself, but our media personnel showed him what I actually wrote and showed him that I actually stated that my team comes first and I'm just going to keep working hard and we're just going to keep winning." But Ryan said his decision last week to sit Clowney against Tennessee on Sunday was only partially fueled by the receiver's tweet. "I wouldn't be doing this team the right thing," Ryan said, "if I thought he was being selfish in the fact that maybe he wasn't preparing like he should or he needed maybe a little kick in the pants or something. Then, that's what we're going to do. I'm not saying him, specifically, but I owe it to our team to get the best out of everybody." Clowney, who has no catches this season, said he was informed by Ryan a few days before the game that he'd be inactive. "I wasn't in the right direction," Clowney said. "He even told me he felt I kind of slipped off a little bit in practice, which is fine."
Analysis: On Monday, Ryan said he wanted to see how Clowney responded, and said he was "outstanding" leading into the game against the Titans. Clowney said he and Ryan have no tension between them, and he fully expects to play at New Orleans on Sunday. That said, Clowney has minimal Fantasy value for the Jets. He does not need to be used in Week 4.
News: New York Jets coach Rex Ryan benched WR David Clowney against the Titans after he tweeted about a lack of playing time. After the Jets beat New England 16-9 last Sunday, Clowney wrote on Twitter: "1 play in the 1st Half, 4 plays in the 2nd half ... A bit disappointed about my playing time but very happy and satisfied about the win." Ryan got wind of Clowney's gripe and called him into his office early last week and told him he wouldn't play against Tennessee. He said he wanted to see how Clowney responded, and was satisfied with the receiver's effort. "If I feel a guy is not putting the team first," Ryan said Monday, "I'll make that decision to put the guy down."
Analysis: Clowney was inactive against the Titans and has minimal Fantasy value heading into Week 4 at New Orleans. Ignore him in all Fantasy leagues for this matchup.
News: Jets FB Tony Richardson, WR Wallace Wright, TE Brian Hartsock, TE James Dearth, WR David Clowney, QB Kellen Clemens and RB Shone Green all dressed for a Week 2 win over the Patriots, but didn't record a stat.
Analysis: Clowney, Greene and maybe even Clemens have some Fantasy value, but all are stuck in backup spots right now. Do not start any of these guys in Week 3 vs. Tennessee.
News: Jets WR David Clowney did not have a catch in Week 1 at Houston.
Analysis: Jets rookie QB Mark Sanchez had a strong first start, but he did not spread the ball around much. Only four players caught passes and it may take a couple of weeks before he gets comfortable enough to spread the ball around. We don't recommend Clowney in any format for Week 2 against the Patriots.
News:David Clowney has struck again, finishing the Jets' preseason with 108 yards on two catches including a 73-yard touchdown against the Eagles' reserve defenders. Clowney's big finish gave him amazing numbers this preseason: 243 yards on seven catches (34.7 yards per catch!) with three touchdowns. It's his second huge preseason in a row; last year he had 222 yards on eight catches (27.8 yards per catch) with two touchdowns.
Analysis: Now the bad news: Clowney has one career regular-season catch for 26 yards and has battled injuries throughout his short time in the NFL. But entering his third season, he has definitely shown that he can catch the deep ball, and the Jets will be hard-pressed not to utilize him during the season. He's worth a late-round flier at this point in deeper drafts, but don't expect him to be a regular in the Jets' offense right off the bat.
News: Jets WR Chansi Stuckey, who made several eye-popping, spinning moves on his way to a touchdown against the Giants in the third preseason game Saturday, has caught the attention of the team. "He's making a big bid for (the second starting job)," said Jets coach Rex Ryan. "I still think it's a position by committee, but I think he's at the top."
Analysis: Stuckey is competing with David Clowney and Brad Smith for the job, but we like Stuckey the best of the group. He's entering his third season in the NFL, which is typically the year when receivers have a breakout season. Plan on drafting Stuckey with a late-round pick in deep leagues.
News: Jets WR David Clowney started Saturday's preseason game against the Giants after leading the team with 135 yards, five catches and two receiving touchdowns during the first two preseason games. Clowney is battling WR Chansi Stuckey for the starting job. But against the Giants, Stuckey had the better game with four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. Clowney did not have a catch.
Analysis: We like Stuckey as the better Fantasy option than Clowney, but both should be considered late-round fliers on Draft Day. At best, Stuckey or Clowney could be used as No. 4 Fantasy options this season.
News: Jets WR David Clowney hauled in a touchdown pass from 28 yards out in Monday's preseason loss to the Ravens. Kellen Clemens hit Clowney in the 3rd quarter. He finished with two catches for 33 yards.
Analysis: Clowney is off to another great preseason and could catapult himself into the Jets' offense as a deep-threat receiver. He might have had a similar role last year if not for getting hurt, so if he makes it through the preseason clean, perhaps he'll be useful some weeks. For now, though, he's not worth drafting. We'll keep an eye on him for you this preseason.
News: In the Jets' Week 1 preseason game vs. the Rams, WR David Clowney came up with two excellent catches to propel his stat line to a triple-digit total. He not only caught the first pass of Mark Sanchez's career -- a 48-yard bomb down the right sideline -- but he also was wide open down the middle of the field for a 50-yard touchdown late in the game. Clowney, who led the AFC in yards receiving last preseason, had three catches for 102 yards.
Analysis: Clowney is off to another great preseason game and could catapult himself into the Jets' offense as a deep-threat receiver. He might have had a similar role last year if not for getting hurt, so if he makes it through the preseason clean, perhaps he'll be useful some weeks. For now, though, he's not worth drafting. We'll keep an eye on him for you this preseason.
News: The Jets are trying to find a No. 2 WR behind Jerricho Cotchery. Jets coach Rex Ryan indicated Monday that Chansi Stuckey has the edge. "He's a guy who stood out to me," Ryan said. "He's having a great camp." In addition to complimenting Stuckey, Ryan has been impressed with WR Brad Smith. "Brad is a multiple talented guy," Ryan said. "He's dangerous. You can use him in reverses and route running."
Analysis: We expected Stuckey to have a good chance to win the job, and we still think David Clowney will factor into the mix as well. We don't recommend drafting any of these guys in standard leagues, but we'd rank them Stuckey, Clowney and Smith as players to watch heading into the season in case you want to add them off the waiver wire in deep formats.
News: The Newark Star-Ledger reports Jets coach Rex Ryan is confident his receivers beyond No. 1 option Jerricho Cotchery. Ryan has faith in Brad Smith, Chansi Stuckey and David Clowney and doesn't feel the team needs to add anyone else. "We'll always keep our eyes open for any position," Ryan said of possibly signing a veteran wideout during the preseason. "I have more confidence in that group than the general opinion out there. Everybody to a man ought to feel slighted. Every one of those guys. They all have abilities. David Clowney - he's about as fast as there is in the league. Chansi Stuckey's a great slot receiver. You've got Brad Smith, who's as multi-talented as any of the guys in the league. ... And all the things like we need to pick up this guy or that guy. We're going to find out. We'll see who's right and who's wrong."
Analysis: It will be interesting to see what develops between Smith, Stuckey and Clowney and who wins the starting job opposite Cotchery. None of these guys are worth drafting in most seasonal leagues, but the starter could be worth adding off the waiver wire at some point during the year.
News: The New York Daily News reports Monday that WR Chansi Stuckey, and not David Clowney as previously reported, would be the starter opposite Jerricho Cotchery if the season started today. Stuckey is having a good offseason thus far, and according to the report, "his teammates are buzzing about his performance so far in the offseason."
Analysis: Stuckey and Clowney are both entering their third season, so there's reason for optimism for a breakout season. Still, they are both inexperienced and also have a young QB, whether it's rookie Mark Sanchez as expected or Kellen Clemens. At best plan on drafting Stuckey or Clowney with a late-round pick, and it appears heading into training camp Stuckey has more value.
News: The Daily News reports Jets WR David Clowney worked with Jerricho Cotchery as the starting wideouts in Thursday's workouts with Chansi Stuckey in the slot. Brad Smith was not among the top three receivers.
Analysis: This is significant news because the Jets need a starting WR opposite Cotchery with Laveranues Coles now in Cincinnati. Clowney and Stuckey are third-year wideouts this year so they could be in line for a breakout season. Smith is a player with potential, but it appears like he could again be passed over on the depth chart. If you're ranking these three right now go with Clowney, Stuckey and then Smith. Neither has much Fantasy value heading into the season, but Clowney or Stuckey are worth a look as late-round fliers depending on who starts opposite Cotchery.
News: TE Bubba Franks, WR Wallace Wright, WR David Clowney, TE James Dearth and QB Kellen Clemens failed to record a stat Week 16 at Seattle.
Analysis: None of these players have any real worth in Fantasy and should be ignored. Continue leaving them on waivers for Week 17.
News: Jets WR David Clowney made a spectacular grab in Week 15, the first of his career, against the Bills. Clowney made one grab for 26 yards. He was active for the first time all season.
Analysis: Clowney, in his second season with the Jets, injured a shoulder in the preseason and has been inactive for every game. He was on New York's practice squad last season after being waived by Green Bay, which drafted him in the fifth round out of Virginia Tech. Despite the solid preseason and great grab vs. the Bills, Clowney is not a recommended Fantasy option in Week 16 at Seattle.
News: Jets wide receiver Brad Smith was listed as doubtful Friday for New York's game against Buffalo with a concussion. Smith didn't practice all week, participating in only light workouts, after taking a vicious hit from San Francisco's Patrick Willis in the Jets' 24-14 loss last Sunday. He rode the stationary bike Friday during the half-hour window the media are allowed to watch. If he doesn't play, speedy David Clowney could make his NFL debut after leading the AFC with 222 yards receiving during the preseason.
Analysis: Clowney, in his second season with the Jets, injured a shoulder in the preseason and has been inactive for every game. He was on New York's practice squad last season after being waived by Green Bay, which drafted him in the fifth round out of Virginia Tech. Despite the solid preseason, Clowney is not a recommended Fantasy option heading into Week 15.
News: The Jets listed the following players as inactive for Week 13 vs. Denver: QB Brett Ratliff (third QB), K Mike Nugent, WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, DB Drew Coleman, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: None of the players on this list should be considered viable Fantasy option. They are not in a position to contribute regular stats as they aren't in line for regular playing time. They've got some depth chart climbing to do and should be left on the waiver wire.
News: Jets kicker Mike Nugent will miss another week of action as he's inactive against the Titans in Tennessee in Week 12. Jay Feely continues to start in his place. The rest of the Jets inactives are as follows: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, DB Drew Coleman, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: Feely has become a viable Fantasy option in Nugent's absence and should be used as a stopgap option until he is replaced by Nugent, who should be kept reserved in Fantasy until further notice. The rest of the players mentioned above have no Fantasy value at this time and should remain off Fantasy rosters.
News: The Jets will be without kicker Mike Nugent again in Week 11 at New England as he's inactive for his ninth straight game with a thigh injury. Jay Feely continues to start, and play well, in his place. New York also listed the following other players as inactive for Week 11: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, RB Marcus Mason, CB Drew Coleman, S Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: With the kicking duties in New York up in the air, figure Feely and Nugent both are risky starts in Week 11 and beyond until one of them is cut. The rest of the players mentioned above have no Fantasy value at this time and should remain off Fantasy rosters.
News: The Jets list the following players as being inactive and out for Week 10 against the St. Louis Rams: QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller, RB Marcus Mason, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris and TE Bubba Franks.
Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves, play on special teams or aren't an integral part of the Jets' offense. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time.
News: The Jets travel to Buffalo for a Week 9 matchup and have listed the following players as being inactive for the game: K Mike Nugent, WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller, RB Marcus Mason, DB Eric Smith, LB David Harris, TE Bubba Franks and QB Brett Ratliff (3rd QB).
Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves, play on special teams or aren't an integral part of the Jets' offense. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time. The one exception is Nugent, however, he really hasn't viable since draft day.
News: New York has listed the following players as being inactive and out when the Jets host Kansas City in Week 8: QB Brett Ratliff, TE Bubba Franks, DB David Barrett, WR David Clowney, QB Erik Ainge, DL Kareem Brown, DL Marques Murrell and kicker Mike Nugent.
Analysis: Most of these players are either reserves, play on special teams or aren't an integral part of the Jets' offense. They have little to no Fantasy value at this time. The one exception is Nugent, however, he really hasn't viable since draft day.
News: Jets K Mike Nugent, QB Brett Ratliff, QB Erik Ainge, WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller, DL Marques Murrell and DL Kareem Brown have all been ruled inactive for Week 6 vs. Cincinnati.
Analysis: Nugent continues to sit idle with a quad injury and his return date is still unknown. He is about the only inactive player worth starting in Fantasy when active. Contine to keep all these players reserved Week 6.
News: Jets WR David Clowney (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 6 vs. Cincinnati. Clowney has yet to play this season.
Analysis: Clowney has returned to practice, but the Jets still aren't ready to activate him. With the way Brett Favre is jelling nicely with his main WRs in New York right now, don't expect Clowney to see much of the field even when healthy. Continue to ignore him in all formats.
News: The Bergan County Record reports that Jets WR David Clowney returned to practice on Tuesday. He has been out since mid-August with a fractured clavicle.
Analysis: With the way Brett Favre is jelling nicely with his main WRs in New York right now, don't expect Clowney to see much of the field. Continue to ignore him in all formats.
News: Jets K Mike Nugent, QB Brett Ratliff, QB Erik Ainge, WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller, DL Marques Murrell and DL Kareem Brown have all been ruled inactive for Week 4 vs. Arizona.
Analysis: The Jets' special teams continue to be without Miller and Nugent because of injuries, and there is no timetable for their returns. Most of the other inactive players have marginal roles when active, so it's safe to keep them reserved Week 4 and most likely in the future as well.
News: Jets WR David Clowney (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 4 vs. Arizona. He has not played all season.
Analysis: Clowney, who was great in the preseason, continues to recover from a broken collarbone. There is still no timetable for his return, but even when healthy, Clowney has little to no Fantasy value.
News: Jets K Mike Nugent, QB Brett Ratliff, QB Erik Ainge, RB James Hodgins, WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller and DL Kareem Brown have all been ruled inactive Week 3 at San Diego.
Analysis: Nugent and Miller are both out with injuries for New York and it's a huge blow to the Jets special teams. Most of the other players are reserves and have a marginal role when active. It's safe to keep them reserved Fantasy Week 3.
News: Jets WR David Clowney (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 3 at San Diego. Clowney has been on the inactive list for the first two games.
Analysis: Clowney, who was great in the preseason, continues to recover from a broken collarbone. There is still no timetable for his return, but even when healthy, Clowney has little to no Fantasy value.
News: Jets K Mike Nugent, QB Brett Ratliff, QB Erik Ainge, WR Marcus Henry, WR David Clowney, DB Justin Miller and DL Kareem Brown have all been listed as inactive for Week 2 vs. New England.
Analysis: Nugent and Miller are both out with injuries for New York and it's a huge blow to the Jets special teams. Most of the other players are reserves and have a marginal role when active. It's safe to keep them reserved Fantasy Week 2.
News: The Jets have announced their inactives for Week 1 at Miami. The following players will not take part in the game: QB Brett Ratliff, QB Erik Ainge, WR David Clowney, WR Marcus Henry, DB Justin Miller, LB Kenwin Cummmings and DL Kareem Brown.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value at this time. Continue to ignore them in all formats.
News:Jets WR David Clowney, the team's leading receiver after two preseason games, has a broken collarbone, the New York Daily News has reported. The paper is reporting it's a 4-to-6 week injury.
Analysis: Clowney was gaining some momentum with his preseason outings, but now he is out to start the season. Don't draft him in any leagues at this time.
News: Jets WR David Clowney, picked up on waivers by the Jets from the Packers last October, caught touchdown passes of 71 and 70 yards from Brett Ratliff in Thursday's preseason opener against the Browns. Clowney finished with four catches for 163 yards and two scores.
Analysis: We've told you that Clowney could have a slither of Fantasy value because of his speed. Well Brett Favre must have loved what he saw Thursday. Clowney shouldn't all of a sudden be a top pick in Fantasy drafts but could make some noise as a late-round sleeper. He's now someone to watch for the rest of the preseason as he could earn a lot of playing time and become more valuable the closer we get to the regular season.
News: On Tuesday, the Jets signed the following players to reserve/future contracts: RB Alvin Banks, S Darnell Bing, WR David Clowney, CB Manny Collins, DT Thomas Johnson, LB Jerry Mackey, QB Brett Ratliff, WR Shaine Smith and WR Marco Thomas. Banks, Collins, Mackey, Ratliff, Smith and Thomas were on the practice squad at the conclusion of the regular season. Clowney finished the season on the Injured Reserve list.
Analysis: These players are going to compete for roster spots in training camp next summer. The only one with a scintilla of Fantasy value is Clowney, who has pretty good speed when healthy. Everyone else can be brushed off Fantasy owners' shoulders.
News: The Jets inactives for Week 7 against the Bengals include TE Chris Baker, WR David Clowney, TE Jason Pociask, DB Andre Dyson, DL Mike Devito and QB Marques Tuiasosopo.
Analysis: Keep Baker reserved in all Fantasy leagues. All the other players have minimal Fantasy value and should not be used.
News: The Jets inactives for Week 6 against the Eagles include QB Marques Tuiasosopo (3rd QB), WR David Clowney, DB Drew Coleman, TE Joe Kowalewski, DL Mike DeVito and TE Jason Pociask.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value and should be reserved in all leagues for Week 6.
News: The Jets listed QB Marques Tuiasosopo (emergency QB), WR David Clowney (coach's decision), DB Erik Coleman (concussion), TE Joe Kowalewski (shoulder), DL Mike Devito (coach's decision), DL Mike Devito (coach's decision) and TE Jason Pociask (coach's decision) for Week 5 at the N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: None of these players are worth owning in Fantasy play at this time. Keep them reserved in all leagues until further notice.
News: The Jets signed rookie WR David Clowney to a contract Wednesday. Clowney will compete for a spot on special teams. He was originally drafted by the Packers in April but was on their practice squad when the Jets signed him.
Analysis: Clowney is a speedy receiver who doesn't have a lot of bulk. Expect to see him mostly on special teams and occasionally on offense once he gets acclimated to the Jets offense. He's not worth owning in Fantasy play right now.
News: On Sunday, the Packers signed wide receiver David Clowney, wide receiver Chris Francies, tight end Clark Harris, linebacker Spencer Havner, tackle Orrin Thompson, quarterback Paul Thompson and running back Corey White to their practice squad.
Analysis: So long as these players are on the practice squad and not playing regularly on Sunday afternoons, they should not be considered for use by Fantasy owners. Clowney and White could be considered long-term options in dynasty leagues, however.
News: The Packers on Saturday announced the following players as cut: Tight end Zac Alcorn, defensive end Larry Birdine, wide receiver Shaun Bodiford, rookie wide receiver David Clowney, cornerback Patrick Dendy, wide receiver Chris Francies, linebacker Tim Goodwell, tight end Clark Harris, linebacker Spencer Havner, linebacker Rory Johnson, guard Travis Leffew, veteran safety Marquand Manuel, fullback Brandon Miree, safety Alvin Nnabufie, kicker Dave Rayner, wide receiver Calvin Russell, guard Adam Stenavich, tackle Orrin Thompson, quarterback Paul Thompson and RB/FB Corey White.
Analysis: There are a lot of potential Fantasy sleepers on this list, including Clowney, Harris, Manuel, Rayner and White. But ultimately, all of the above players should be considered unusable for Fantasy purposes until they find regular playing time with an NFL team.
News: Packers rookie WR David Clowney caught three passes for 18 yards vs. Seattle in Green Bay's second preseason game. Clowney also returned a kick 19 yards.
Analysis: Clowney is a speed receiver who doesn't have bulk or can go across the middle -- look for the Packers to use him as a situational option. He's worth a middle-round pick in rookie-only drafts.
News: The Packers officially signed WR David Clowney to a contract (terms were not disclosed). He is expected to battle for a spot along the WR depth chart behind Donald Driver and Greg Jennings.
Analysis: Clowney is a speed receiver who doesn't have bulk or can go across the middle -- look for the Packers to use him as a situational option. He's worth a middle-round pick in rookie-only drafts.
News: Aside from first-round pick DT Justin Harrell and second-round pick RB Brandon Jackson, the Packers' 2007 draft class includes: San Jose St. WR James Jones, Virginia Tech SS Aaron Rouse, Missouri Southern St. OT Allen Barbre, Virginia Tech WR David Clowney, Boise State LB Korey Hall, Cal LB Desmond Bishop, Colorado PK Mason Crosby, Florida RB DeShawn Wynn and Rutgers TE Clark Harris.
Analysis: Jones has size but is more of a possession receiver than a deep threat; it will be a longshot for him to become popular in Fantasy play. Clowney is a speed receiver who doesn't have bulk or can go across the middle -- look for the Packers to use him as a situational option. Rouse has terrific size (6-foot-4) and speed (4.55 in the 40-yard dash) but is not a great pass defender. The Packers may try moving Rouse to linebacker, which would be a good move for him (think late-round steal in dynasty league play). Crosby will be worth a look as a bye-week kicking replacement if he earns the top job. Wynn is worth a look as a late-round flier in the deepest of leagues because of his running technique, not necessarily his speed. The rest of the class will provide depth for the Lions and compete for spots along the depth chart.
