(9/24/2009) Colts MLB Gary Brackett, the defensive captain, hasn't practiced this week after hurting his left knee late in Monday's game at Miami. OLB Clint Session sat out Wednesday with an injured left ankle. The Colts' injury report said he was a full participant in Thursday's workout, though he's not sure whether he'll play at Arizona. If Brackett and Session can't go Sunday, veteran Freddy Keiaho will likely play in the middle and Philip Wheeler will likely replace Session on the outside. CB Kelvin Hayden, who signed a $43 million contract in February, didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday after hurting his hamstring late in the Miami game, and Indy's other cornerback, Marlin Jackson, has been limited primarily to nickel package duty as he recovers from two surgeries on his right knee since last October. Also out is Bob Sanders, the 2007 NFL defensive player of the year, who had offseason surgery on his right knee.

Report: Colts' Hayden gets new deal
(2/19/2009)Kelvin Hayden agreed to a five-year deal worth $43 million Wednesday night, hours before the Colts were prepared to use the franchise tag to prevent him from hitting the free-agent market, The Indianapolis Star reported on its Web site. Hayden intercepted three passes each of the past two seasons but is best remembered for his acrobatic interception in the Super Bowl, which he returned for a touchdown to seal the victory over Chicago. Late last week, however, Polian said the Colts likely would use the franchise tag if they couldn't reach a deal before Thursday's deadline. That would have cost the Colts about $9.9 million and would have pinched Indianapolis' salary cap situation more than it already is.
