News: The Giants placed WR Michael Clayton on IR on Saturday. Clayton had been added to the official injury report for the Monday night game in New Orleans in Week 12 earlier on Saturday. Clayton was questionable with a knee injury but the Giants decided to end his season instead as it was discovered that he has a torn meniscus, reports the Giants' official site. Clayton will have surgery on Monday.
Analysis: Clayton played in a few games this season but did not make a catch for the Giants. Now that he's on IR and headed for surgery, his season is over. Fantasy owners can continue to ignore him in all leagues.
News: The Giants re-signed WR Michael Clayton on Friday after placing Domenik Hixon on IR with a knee injury.
Analysis: Clayton has been a bust of an NFL player since his breakout rookie season in 2004. But the Giants need healthy bodies at receiver and Clayton knows the offense. He might end up making an impact down the road, but you can leave Clayton on waivers in Fantasy until further notice.
News: The Giants cut WR Michael Clayton on Saturday, which was admittedly not an easy decision for coach Tom Coughlin. "You have to talk about the Michael Claytons of the world, who are consummate pros, Coughlin said. When you have to let a guy like that go it eats away at you... "
Analysis: Sometimes when a player does everything right, he still has to go. New York will be fine without Clayton, and so will Fantasy owners. Ignore him in all formats especially considering he is out of a job.
News: The Giants officially announced the signing of WR Michael Clayton on Wednesday. The team had agreed to terms with the free agent on Monday. Clayton caught two passes for 19 yards in six games with New York last season.
Analysis: The team had agreed to terms with Clayton on Tuesday. Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks are still the top receivers for the Giants, but Clayton could be in the mix for some targets. He won't be worth drafting in most formats, but could develop into a decent waiver wire pickup once he establishes himself in the offense.
News: NFL Network reports the Giants have agreed to terms with WR Michael Clayton, who caught two passes for 19 yards in six games with New York last season.
Analysis: Clayton is a veteran presence for New York in case they fail to add any quality receivers before the season starts. Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks are still the top receivers for the Giants, but Clayton could be in the mix for some targets. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy until we see how he fits into the Giants' plans.
News: Giants WR Michael Clayton had two catches for 19 yards Sunday in Week 17 at Washington. Clayton got increased playing time with Steve Smith (knee) and Hakeem Nicks (toe) out against the Redskins.
Analysis: Clayton has minimal Fantasy value heading into 2011. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News:Michael Clayton may not need a lot of time to get on the same page with Giants QB Eli Manning. While they have never played on the same team, Clayton and Manning were roommates for three months at a camp in Florida prior to the NFL Combine in 2004. "I was his receiver down there," Clayton recalled, saying he used to wake Manning up in the morning and drive him to their workouts. "God works in mysterious ways," Clayton added. "To have an opportunity to be able to catch ball from him on this level is a dream I have been waiting for, to get a qualified quarterback and to get an opportunity. Last year, everyone caught balls here, no matter who you are, and that's what I am looking for." The Giants are in desperate need of anyone to step up at receiver this week against Jacksonville. A rash of injuries the past two weeks has sidelined Steve Smith, Ramses Barden and leading receiver Hakeem Nicks.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Clayton's production against the Jaguars and what his role is, but we don't expect him to do much in his first game. But if he plays well then he could be worth adding off the waiver wire heading into Week 13.
News: The Giants signed WR Michael Clayton on Tuesday. Clayton, a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers, was playing for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. Were going to see how far he can go with the learning, and depending on how well he does with that, well make some adjustments as to how much we can use him," said coach Tom Coughlin.
Analysis: With Steve Smith (pec) and Hakeem Nicks (leg) all sorts of banged up at the moment, the Giants are desperate for a wide receiver at the moment. Clayton had a great rookie season in 2004 when he put up 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns, but injury problems really derailed his NFL career. He won't be much of a Fantasy option off the bat, but it will be interesting to see how much he plays, if at all, on Sunday against the Jaguars.
News: The Giants worked out WR Michael Clayton on Tuesday. Clayton, a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers, is currently playing for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League.
If he does end up signing with the Giants, he wouldn't be much of a Fantasy option off the bat.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton, a former first-round draft pick (2004), has been released, the Tampa Tribune reported. "I'm no longer a Buc," he reportedly wrote in a text message to the Tribune.
Analysis: Clayton has been a disappointment for most of his NFL career, and he was coming off a down year in 2009 with 16 catches for 240 yards and one touchdown. He signed a five-year extension worth as much as $26 million in March of 2009, but he wasn't living up to that contract. Look for Clayton to try and find work elsewhere, but he won't be making much of an impact this year. Ignore him in all leagues in 2010.
News: Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris said he is pleased with WR Michael Clayton's performance throughout training camp and preseason so far. "There are no bad things I can say about Mike Clayton right now," Morris said. Clayton caught 16 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown in 2009, which almost led to him being released by the Bucs in the offseason.
Analysis: Clayton signed a five-year extension worth as much as $26 million in March of 2009 and then had the worst season of his career. Tampa Bay did use three quarterbacks last season, so that could have had something to do with Clayton's decrease in numbers. With second-year QB Josh Freeman at the helm of the offense, Clayton could excel with the young quarterback. The fact Morris is happy with Clayton is good news, but until he proves his worth on the field, he can be off Fantasy owners radars on Draft Day.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton realizes his roster spot with the Bucs isn't guaranteed this season since he is coming off the worst season of his career just after receiving a lucrative contract extension prior to the 2009 season, reports the Pewter Report. "It could be, like I said, I know that regardless of what happens I'll be on a team next year," said Clayton. "I'm not really worried about that. The best thing is I'm committed to this football team. They made a commitment to me last year, and regardless of what happens my commitment is to the Bucs right now. I'm going to put in the work. The contract is what it is. That won't change regardless of what happens. It is my job to do my part, and I'm going to do that." Clayton signed a five-year extension worth as much as $26 million in March of 2009. Last year, he earned approximately $8 million in upfront money and base salary while starting 11 games in which he produced a paltry 16 receptions for 230 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: The receptions and yards were the worst totals of his career. Clayton said that he believes that the lack of continuity at quarterback hurt his production as the Bucs deployed three starting QBs during the 2009 season. With second-year pro Josh Freeman firmly entrenched as the starter, Clayton believes that the receivers can produce more. "When you have a quarterback that is set, and is going to be the guy we haven't had that consistency in a long time at wide receiver that plays a huge part on what goes on in the perimeter," said Clayton. Maybe Freeman can help Clayton improve in 2010, but he's not worth drafting in the majority of leagues. If he starts out the season playing well then add Clayton off the waiver wire.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton finished the Week 16 overtime win over the Saints with one catch for 10 yards.
Analysis: Clayton saw his first catch since back in Week 11 in the Week 16 game. He simply doesnt register enough in a terrible offense to matter in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers for Week 17 against the Falcons.
News: Tampa Bay WR Antonio Bryant (groin), RB Derrick Ward (knee), TE Kellen Winslow (knee) and WR Michael Clayton (knee) are all active for Week 16 at New Orleans. They will all play in the game.
Analysis: Clayton doesn't produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use most weeks. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Bucs coach Raheem Morris said there are no plans to place WR Michael Clayton (knee) on injured reserve, even though Clayton has not practiced or played in two weeks. He has been ruled out for Week 15 at Seattle. Morris indicated Clayton might return next week against New Orleans.
Analysis: Clayton doesn't produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use most weeks. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton (knee) did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday as the Bucs prepare to play the Jets in Week 14. Clayton missed Week 13 at Carolina as well.
Analysis: Clayton doesn't produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use most weeks. Be sure to bench him in the minimal amount of leagues he has value in as we doubt he will be effective if he can play against the Jets in Week 14.
News: Tampa Bay has listed the following players as inactive for Week 13 at Carolina: CB Aqib Talib, WR Michael Clayton, DL Michael Bennett, WR Terrence Nunn and DT Roy Miller. Rudy Carpenter is the third quarterback.
Analysis: None of these players does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when active. Leave them all on waivers.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton (knee) will miss Week 13 at Carolina.
Analysis: Clayton doesn't produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use most weeks. Be sure to bench him in the minimal amount of leagues he has value in.
News: Tampa Bay starting WR Michael Clayton injured his knee on the Bucs' first possession of the Week 12 game at Atlanta. Clayton did not make a catch in the game and did not return.
Analysis: Clayton doesn't produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use most weeks. Keep him off of rosters for Week 13 at Carolina, if healthy.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton caught an 18-yard touchdown vs. the Saints in Week 11.
Analysis: This was Clayton's first touchdown of the season. He doesn't produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use. Keep him off of rosters for Week 12 when the Bucs play at the Falcons.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton made one 3-yard catch in a Week 10 loss at Miami.
Analysis: Clayton went for 93 yards in Week 1, but hasn't done much of anything since. He's nothing more than a low-end emergency injury replacement heading into Week 11 vs. New Orleans.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton caught one 29-yard pass and a two-point conversion in a Week 9 win over the Packers.
Analysis: Clayton went for 93 yards in Week 1, but hasn't done much of anything since. He's nothing more than a low-end emergency bye-week replacement heading into Week 10 at Miami.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton, who was questionable for Week 9 vs. Green Bay with a wrist injury, was not listed among the inactives.
Analysis: Clayton has minimal Fantasy value, but might be worth a shot in deeper leagues as an emergency bye-week replacement, as the Bucs will likely have to chuck the ball around.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton, FB Earnest Graham, WR Yamon Figurs, WR Maurice Stovall and TE John Gilmore all dressed for a Week 7 loss to the Patriots in London, but failed to record an offensive stat.
Analysis: Clayton and Graham have minimal Fantasy value, but aren't worth using until further notice. The rest of these guys are all non-factors. Tampa Bay is off in Week 8.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton has been listed as questionable for the team's Week 7 game against the Patriots in London with a hamstring injury.
Analysis: Clayton made only one catch in Week 6 and has not been too productive in 2009. He is not a recommended option in any format for Week 7.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton caught one pass for 9 yards Week 6 in a loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Clayton, whose recent rash of dropped passes has made him a target for fan derision, received a loud and long ovation when he held on to an 8-yard reception for first down. The derision is warranted with just 11 grabs for 154 yards on the season. He's not worth using Week 7 against the Patriots.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton was targeted 12 times in a Week 5 loss to the Eagles, but only managed to haul in three passes for 25 yards.
Analysis: Clayton is an average receiver with a less-than-average QB on an awful team. Don't worry about him in Fantasy play for Week 6 vs. Carolina.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton was limited in practice on Wednesday but practiced in full on Thursday and Friday as he deals with injured ribs. He is conidered probable for the team's Week 5 game at Philadelphia.
Analysis: Clayton caught seven passes for 120 yards over the first two weeks of the season but has since failed to stat in consecutive games despite being healthy. He should see even less production with QB Josh Johnson under center. He should not be active Week 5 at Philadelphia even if he's completely healthy.
News: Tampa Bay starter at WR Michael Clayton failed to make a catch during a loss to Washington in Week 4. Clayton and fellow starter FB B.J. Askew did not stat in the game.
Analysis: Clayton caught seven passes for 120 yards over the first two weeks of the season but has since failed to stat in consecutive games despite being healthy. He should see even less production with QB Josh Johnson under center. Do not use him, or Askew, in Fantasy play in Week 5 at Philadelphia.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton, WR Mario Urrutia, RB Clifton Smith, WR Brian Clark and TE John Gilmore all dressed for a Week 3 loss to the Giants but failed to record an offensive stat.
Analysis: Clayton has some minimal Fantasy value, but all of these guys should be ignored in Week 4 at Washington.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton made two catches in Week 2's game against the Bills. His two catches went for a total of 27 yards with a long of 23 yards.
Analysis: Clayton led the Bucs in receiving Week 1 with 93 yards against the Cowboys but followed it up with a real dud Week 2 at Buffalo. The Bucs are throwing the ball a lot but not having all that much success with Byron Leftwich at the helm. Think of Clayton as a low-end option at best for Week 3 against a tough Giants defense.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton, who came into Week 1 as probable with a hamstring injury, got the start against the Cowboys. He proved to be 100 percent and very effective as he led Tampa Bay with five catches for 93 yards. His longest reception went for 47 yards, he was targeted nine times and had two catches of 20-plus yards.
Analysis: The Bucs have been looking for another option outside of Antonio Bryant and Clayton stepped up in a big way Week 1. He has been severely disappointing the last four seasons after bursting into the NFL with 80 catches for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie. Clayton is on the right path to get back to that level, however, he still remains a low-end Fantasy WR heading into Week 2 against the Bills.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton (hamstring) was listed as probable for the team's Week 1 game against the Cowboys. Clayton was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday but is expected to be fine for the game.
Analysis: Clayton is the third option in the Buccaneers' passing attack that is not expected to be too good in 2009. Don't bother with him outside of the very deepest of leagues unless he gets a lot more looks than expected.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton (hamstring) has returned to practice Monday but is not likely to play Friday against the Texans in the preseason finale. Coach Raheem Morris said it's up Clayton to catch up to the rest of the starting offense, which is intact for the first time since early in camp: "We did get a taste of it, we did get a little peek at it. We're going to have to feed off of that and take it into Dallas."
Analysis: Clayton has been out since re-aggravating a hamstring injury against Jacksonville in the second preseason game. Clayton is the No. 3 option in Tampa Bay's passing game behind WR Antonio Bryant and TE Kellen Winslow, so don't spend a draft pick on Clayton in Fantasy leagues this year.
News: From The Sports Xchange: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton aggravated his hamstring in the first half of Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars and took himself out of the game. He will not play Thursday against the Miami Dolphins.
Analysis: Clayton could surprise some people this year if the Bucs can get a handle on their QB situation. Clayton is the No. 3 option in Tampa Bay's passing game behind WR Antonio Bryant and TE Kellen Winslow, so don't spend a draft pick on Clayton. But if he starts out playing well and shows he learned anything from Rice, then he could be added off the waiver wire.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton (hamsting) was able to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars. He made two grabs for a total of 30 yards, with a long of 19 yards.
Analysis: Clayton finished second in receiving on the team in 2008 to Bryant with 484 receiving yards. Unfortunately, he had just 38 catches and one touchdown. Clayton said he spent the offseason working out with Arizona WR Larry Fitzgerald, Green Bay WR Greg Jennings and former NFL great Jerry Rice in Minnesota. He's certainly not in the minds of Fantasy owners like Rice once was and Fitzgerald and Jennings currently are, but Clayton could surprise some people this year if the Bucs can get a handle on their QB situation. Clayton is the No. 3 option in Tampa Bay's passing game behind Bryant and Kellen Winslow, so don't spend a draft pick on Clayton. But if he starts out playing well and shows he learned anything from Rice, then he could be added off the waiver wire.
News: Three key players in Tampa Bay's offense sat out practice at Buccaneers camp Thursday. Running back Derrick Ward and receivers Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton did not participate in drills during Thursday's workout. Ward has a foot sprain. Bryant has been sidelined by a sore knee for the past three days, and Clayton has a sore hamstring. None of the injuries are considered serious.

News: According to the official team web site, Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton has spent his offseason working out with Arizona WR Larry Fitzgerald, Green Bay WR Greg Jennings and former NFL great Jerry Rice in Minnesota. "I got an invite from Larry Fitzgerald to come out here and work with [Rice] one-on-one," said Clayton. "It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and I wouldn't have missed it for anything. I get to spend three or four days with him. We get to hang out and talk. We talk about football, how he did it back in the day. It's a wonderful experience. Since I got here yesterday I've been thrilled with every moment that I've been with him."
Analysis: Hopefully working out with Rice and some other elite WR prospects in the NFL will help Clayton. He's certainly not in the minds of Fantasy owners like Rice once was and Fitzgerald and Jennings currently are, but Clayton could surprise some people this year if the Bucs can get a handle on their QB situation. Clayton is the No. 3 option in Tampa Bay's passing game behind Antonio Bryant and Kellen Winslow, so don't spend a draft pick on Clayton. News: The big contract Michael Clayton signed three months ago isn't the only reason the sixth-year pro is excited to still be wearing the uniform of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. An underachiever who fell out of favor with former coach Jon Gruden, the wide receiver anticipates playing a significant role in a system being installed by incoming offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski. The former No. 1 draft pick flourished as a rookie, with 80 receptions for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns - all records for a first-year player in Tampa Bay. His production declined sharply after 2004, though, and he has only scored two TDs since his first year. Injuries were a factor, but so was Gruden losing confidence in the 26-year-old, who dropped passes in key situations and struggled to keep his starting job. Clayton welcomes the chance for a fresh beginning under new coach Raheem Morris. "He hasn't lived up to your expectations," Morris said, shrugging off questions about the 6-foot-4, 215-pound receiver being a disappointment for much of his career. "The reason we signed him back is because he lived up to ours. If you go look at receivers pound for pound in the league and talk about blocking downfield and creating big plays, putting their face on people and being tough, that's Michael Clayton."
Analysis: As of now, Clayton is expected to start opposite Antonio Bryant in the Bucs' offense. Though he had that great year as a rookie, he's done bupkis since. We think of him more as a third or fourth option in the Bucs' offense behind Bryant and tight end Kellen Winslow. Feel free to take him with a late-round pick in drafts this summer, but considering his track record, don't expect a whole lot.
News: With Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard gone, the Bucs plan to start Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton at WR this season, according to the Tampa Tribune. Playing behind those guys is up in the air. Bucs receivers coach Richard Mann said Maurice Stovall and Brian Clark are the leading candidates for more playing time when he was asked on Tuesday. "Those spots have to be filled," Mann said. "We got a lot of guys in contention for that position. Mo is one of them. If he stays healthy, Mo has always looked good since he's been here. It's just that he gets hurt and it goes down the tube, but it's been legit injuries. If we can keep him healthy, he might have a shot to be in one of those two places. Right now BC is looking OK. Again, I haven't seen BC play in a lot of games, but I think a lot of that is because he had to wait his turn. ... Now BC's time has come. Now it's time to step up and grab one of those spots and right now I think he's on schedule." Mann said receiver Dexter Jackson has shown signs of progress, but still needs to evolve. Mann also said rookies Amarri Jackson and Pat Carter have shown impressive work ethics, while Sammie Stroughter has also caught his eye. He also thinks Kelly Campbell has potential, but Mann needs to see more of him now and during training camp.
Analysis: Even though he's starting, Clayton has minimal Fantasy appeal. The Bucs are still dealing with issues at QB with Byron Leftwich, Luke McCown and rookie Josh Freeman fighting for the starting job. Along with that, Kellen Winslow is now in the mix, so with Bryant and Winslow those are the only two receiving options for the Bucs we recommend drafting in Fantasy leagues. With Clayton, you can add him off the waiver wire.
News: The St. Petersburg Times reports Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton is a breakout candidate this year in new offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski's system. Jagodzinski has vowed to get more receivers involved in the passing game. Whereas Jon Gruden's offense tended to feature single players (Antonio Bryant, Joey Galloway and Clayton in 2004), Jagodzinski seems more likely to spread it around.
Analysis: Clayton needs all the help he can get. As a rookie, Clayton, a first-round draft pick from LSU (15th overall) had 80 catches for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns - the fifth-best first season in league history. But Clayton's production fell off after that and he lost his starting job at times. He did start nine games last season after Galloway was injured. In the last four years, he's been plagued by injuries and inconsistency, and his best year was 2008, when he had 38 receptions for 484 yards and one touchdown. For now, don't plan on drafting Clayton, but he could be a candidate to add off the waiver wire if Jagodzinski gets him more involved in the offense.
News:Michael Clayton signed a five-year contract worth nearly $26 million on Sunday to remain with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Clayton, the 2004 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year who has struggled since that strong debut, agreed to the contract two days after becoming an unrestricted free agent. As a rookie, Clayton, a first-round draft pick from LSU (15th overall) had 80 catches for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns - the fifth-best first season in league history. But Clayton's production fell off after that and he lost his starting job at times. He did start nine games last season after Joey Galloway was injured. In the last four years, he's been plagued by injuries and inconsistency, and his best year was 2008, when he had 38 receptions for 484 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: We're stunned by this news considering the consistently bad play Clayton has posted since his rookie season. We'll need him to prove to us that he deserves on a Fantasy roster. You can draft him late at your own risk, but we think he'll be around on the waiver wire once the season starts, and if he comes out hot, you can pick him up then.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton caught only two passes in a Week 17 loss to Oakland, but they went for 87 yards and a touchdown. The score was his first of the year.
Analysis: Clayton could have stepped up when Joey Galloway went down injured, but he didn't do that. He has no Fantasy value heading into 2009.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton had two catches for 23 yards Sunday against San Diego.
Analysis: Clayton is a low-end Fantasy WR and should not be used in Week 17 against Oakland.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton caught three passes for 41 yards Week 15 at Atlanta. He has a total of seven receptions over his last four games.
Analysis: Clayton starts for the Buccaneers, but Antonio Bryant gets all of the action. Leave Clayton on waivers for Week 16 against the Chargers.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton had only a 15-yard reception Week 14 at Carolina. He now has no more than 36 yards receiving in any of his last four games.
Analysis: Clayton starts for the Buccaneers, but Antonio Bryant gets all of the action. Leave Clayton on waivers for Week 15 at Atlanta.
News: In the Buccaneers' 23-20 win vs. the Saints in Week 13, WR Michael Clayton had three catches for 29 yards but also fumbled the ball away once.
Analysis: Clayton doesn't post enough stats to warrant Fantasy use. Keep him off rosters. The Buccaneers play at the Panthers in Week 14.
News: Buccaneers TE John Gilmore, WR Michael Clayton, RB Clifton Smith, FB Jameel Cook, WR Joey Galloway, WR Brian Clark and QB Luke McCown all dressed for Tampa Bay's Week 12 win at Detroit but failed to record an offensive stat. Smith did return a punt for a touchdown, however.
Analysis: Clayton and Galloway have a smidgen of Fantasy value, but they've been pretty much non-factors in Fantasy play for most of this season. The other guys all have zero value.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton caught three passes for 36 yards in a Week 11 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: Clayton has been good for numbers like these all season, and so you shouldn't even bother win him in Fantasy play heading into Week 12 at Detroit, even with such a tasty matchup.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton had his best game of the season Week 9 at Kansas City, catching four balls for 57 yards. He also carried the ball once, gaining a yard.
Analysis: Clayton's production in the NFL has declined every year since his 1,193-yard rookie season, but the Buccaneers have used him more this year than in recent years. Still, any wide receiver with a season best of 57 yards doesn't deserve to start in Fantasy. The Buccaneers have a bye in Week 10 before hosting the Vikings in Week 11.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had three catches for 23 yards Sunday at Dallas.
Analysis: Clayton is a low-end Fantasy WR and should not be used in Week 9 at Kansas City, especially now that Joey Galloway is back for the Bucs.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had three catches for 30 yards Sunday against Seattle. Clayton saw extended action with Joey Galloway (foot) out and when Ike Hilliard (head) was taken off the field following a hard hit from LB Lofa Tatupu.
Analysis: Clayton is a low-end Fantasy option and should not be used in Week 8 at Dallas even if Galloway and Hilliard remain out. He just doesn't produce enough to be a consistent Fantasy WR.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton got the start in Week 6 vs. Carolina. He made two catches for 29 yards, with his longest catch going for 22 yards. He was targeted just twice.
Analysis: Clayton got in the starting lineup because Joey Galloway was once again inactive. He's failed to live up to expectations after a solid rookie season and is not a player we recommend in Fantasy -- starter or not. Leave him reserved for Week 7 vs. Seattle even if Galloway does not return.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had three catches for 26 yards during a Week 5 loss against the Broncos. He was targeted just four times in the game and has 12 catches for 114 yards this season.
Analysis: Clayton has been getting a bit more involved in the offense with Joey Galloway sidelined, but as soon as Galloway returns, Clayton will likely fade into the background. Clayton is not a recommended Fantasy WR heading into Week 6 against the Panthers.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton, in a rare start, made three catches for 28 yards in a Week 4 win over the Packers. He also rushed one time for four yards on an end-around.
Analysis: Clayton started over Ike Hilliard on Sunday but didn't do much as Brian Griese struggled most of the day. He could go back to the bench when Joey Galloway comes back and you shouldn't be relying on Clayton in any Fantasy leagues right now. Tampa Bay visits Denver in Week 5.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton will start in Week 4 against the Packers instead of Ike Hilliard. Antonio Bryant will start opposite Clayton.
Analysis: This is bad news for Hilliard's owners, as he is usually more of a reliable option off the bench in Fantasy play than Clayton. Keep an eye on their stats today against a depleted Packers secondary, as all Bucs WRs could have a big day.
News: Notable Bucs pass catchers from Week 3 at Chicago include: Michael Clayton (five catches, 54 yards), TE Alex Smith (33 yards on three catches), FB B.J. Askew (18 yards on two grabs) and WR Maurice Stovall (16 yards on two catches with a fumble lost). TE John Gilmore added a 3-yard catch.
Analysis: Of these players, only Smith is worth considering as a bye-week replacement option when the Bucs host the Packers in Week 4.
News: As expected, Bucs WR Joey Galloway was made inactive for Week 3 at Chicago. He has a sprained foot that he couldn't walk on earlier in the week.
Analysis: Ike Hilliard and Antonio Bryant will start at wide receiver for the Bucs; Michael Clayton will also work in as part of the Tampa Bay offense. We like Bryant as a one-week sleeper off the waiver wire, but Hilliard and Clayton aren't worth using. Galloway should of course remain benched.
News: The St. Petersburg Times reports that a sprained foot will keep WR Joey Galloway out of the Bucs' lineup at Chicago in Week 3. Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton will start in Galloway's place. "I've been hungry, man. I've been hungry for five years," Clayton said of having a chance to play. "Nothing has changed, my mentality hasn't changed. The opportunity has changed and I'm looking forward to taking advantage of it. Like I said, I'm really excited about the opportunity. I'm blessed to be in this position."
Analysis: Despite some familiar names here, none of these receivers are worth starting at Chicago in Week 3. Between the Bears' pass defense being good and Brian Griese now under center for Tampa Bay, none of these receivers warrant use. Clayton hasn't mattered in Fantasy since his rookie season.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton, who was inactive in Week 1, caught one pass for six yards in a Week 2 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Clayton isn't worth owning in Fantasy play right now, but he will get some snaps as the third WR in Tampa. Ignore him in Week 3 at Chicago, but keep an eye on his stats over the next few weeks.
News: The Buccaneers announced their inactives for Week 1, and the following players won't take part in Sunday's game at New Orleans: QB Josh McCown, QB Josh Johnson, RB Michael Bennett, LB Geno Hayes, WR Mark Clayton and DL Greg Peterson.
Analysis: The only players with any Fantasy value here are Clayton and Bennett. Clayton had a shot at the No. 2 WR spot, but couldn't shake off a chest injury in time. He barely has any Fantasy value right now. As for Bennett, he lost out to Warrick Dunn for the third RB spot and Jon Gruden apparently felt they didn't need a third runner against the Saints.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton caught two passes for 22 yards, including a 10-yard TD pass from starter Jeff Garcia in Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars.
Analysis: It's nice to see Clayton and Garcia hook up. The Buccaneers are looking for a No. 2 receiver and Clayton could be it. Still, draft him at your own risk in Fantasy as he's been expected to produce before with little results.
News: After practice on Wednesday, Bucs coach Jon Gruden was emphatic about the progress made by WR Michael Clayton. Clayton was a stud as a rookie but has been a shell of himself every year since. 2008 is considered make-or-break for Clayton. "We know he's a very good player," Gruden said. "What I've seen is five or six consecutive days where he's put his fist down and said, 'I'm a go-to receiver.' If he continues to do that, he's going to be a big part of this offense again. Hopefully he stays healthy and continues doing exactly what he's doing. He's focused, he's all business and he's running all kinds of routes. He's running inside routes, outside routes, and he's showing very good stamina. And we know he can run with the ball after the catch. So we like what he's doing but we've got a long way to go."
Analysis: We've heard this before from Gruden about Clayton, only to see the burly receiver play mediocre football. You're on your own if you want to draft him with a final-round flier, though we suppose it's worth following his progress in training camp since the Bucs are without a true No. 2 WR right now.
News: The St. Petersburg Times reports the Bucs are looking for a No. 2 receiver behind Joey Galloway. Michael Clayton has found his way back into Jon Gruden's good graces after a strong finish in 2007, but he still must produce enough to remain there. Ike Hilliard is back on the scene, but at 32 and coming off shoulder surgery, it's possible he loses his grip on a starting job after two seasons. The most intriguing possibility is free-agent pickup Antonio Bryant, more than 18 months removed from his last NFL game after a league suspension left him unsigned in 2007. His offseason was rather impressive.
Analysis: Look for Hilliard to start, but it remains to be seen if he will be the second-most productive receiver for the Bucs. As of now, none of these players have much Fantasy value, but in deeper leagues, Hilliard would be the one worth taking with a late-round pick.
News: By all but ignoring the receiver position in free agency and the draft, the Bucs have given WR Michael Clayton a vote of confidence. Confidence, though, is not what Clayton needs, reports the Tampa Tribune. What Clayton needs is an opportunity. Since his record-breaking rookie season in 2004, his numbers have dropped like stones tossed into a lake. Since his rookie season, when he was thrown 122 passes, Clayton has been the target just 160 times. That works out to an average of 53 passes per season or, in Clayton's case, four passes per game. That's not much of an opportunity, which is why Clayton is hoping the 2008 season will be different. Job One for any receiver, though, is to catch the ball, and critics suggest that Clayton fails to do that as often as he should. So do some startling statistics. During the past three years, Clayton has caught 54 percent of the 160 balls thrown his way. For comparison, only 25 of the 87 players with 50 or more receptions last year caught a lower percentage of their passes.
Analysis: Those numbers might help explain why Clayton, who has caught one touchdown pass the last three years, is getting fewer balls thrown his way. If Clayton were to regain some confidence in the coaches, he could improve his Fantasy value. For now, don't plan on drafting him in 2008, but he might be worth adding off the waiver wire at some point.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton caught 22 passes for 301 yards (13.7 avg.) in 2007. He did not score a touchdown; after notching seven TDs as a rookie in 2004, Clayton has had one in the three seasons since.
Analysis: Clayton is a potential salary-cap casualty as he is scheduled to earn $2 million in 2008. Whether he stays with the Bucs or moves elsewhere, Clayton is not believed to be a reliable Fantasy receiver. Stay away from him in drafts this summer.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton caught five passes for 60 yards in Week 17 vs. the Panthers.
Analysis: Clayton was playing more than usual because the team was resting its starters. He finished the season with just 22 catches and was not a viable Fantasy receiver in 2007.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton had five catches for 71 yards Sunday at San Francisco.
Analysis: Clayton is a low-end Fantasy WR. He might get more playing time in Week 17 against Carolina with the Bucs resting some starters, including WR Joey Galloway. See what develops, but consider Clayton a potential No. 3 Fantasy option.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton caught two passes for 22 yards in Tampa Bay's 37-3 win over the Falcons in Week 15.
Analysis: Clayton only has one game this season with more than two catches, so this is right about what you should expect from the former LSU Tiger. Do not start him in Week 16 at San Francisco.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton filled in for the injured Ike Hilliard and caught four passes for 39 yards in Tampa Bay's 28-14 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14. The catches were Clayton's first since Week 7.
Analysis: Clayton's output was reasonable for him, but he's not worth using in any format in Week 15 vs. the Falcons.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton did not record a reception Week 13 against the Saints, but put his name into the stat book with one carry for 20 yards. It was the first catch or rush for Clayton since Week 7.
Analysis: Clayton is a former Fantasy stud that has pretty much fallen off the spectrum. He is no longer a vital part of the Bucs offense and can be ignored in Fantasy leagues heading into Week 14 against the Texans.
News: Buccaneers TE Jerramy Stevens, TE Anthony Becht, WR Michael Clayton and WR Maurice Stovall didn't record statistics Week 11 at Atlanta.
Analysis: These players don't normally contribute enough statistically to have value in Fantasy. Keep all on waivers for Week 12 against the Redskins.
News: At Tampa Bay's only practice this week before a few days off for their bye, WR Michael Clayton and Michael Pittman both said Wednesday they would be back on the field in Week 11, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
Analysis: This is great news for Pittman owners, but not so good for Michael Bennett or Earnest Graham owners. As for Clayton, he's only owned in one percent of leagues, so his return won't have much Fantasy impact on his return.
News: The Bucs inactives for Week 9 against Arizona include DL Greg Spires, QB Luke McCown (3rd QB), RB Michael Pittman, LB Jeremiah Trotter, LB Patrick Chukwurah, LB Quincy Black and WR Michael Clayton.
Analysis: Keep Spires, Clayton and Pittman reserved in all Fantasy leagues. None of the other players are worth using.
News: Bucs QB Luke McCown (3rd QB), DB Brian Kelly, RB Michael Pittman, LB Jeremiah Trotter, DL Patrick Chukwurah, WR Michael Clayton and TE Alex Smith are all inactive for Week 8 vs. Jacksonville.
Analysis: The Bucs have an inactive list full of valuable players, but most of these guys have little to no Fantasy value when healthy. Pittman is still nursing an ankle injury and might return in the coming weeks. Smith is week-to-week with an ankle injury of his own. Both of these guys are fringe Fantasy players when healthy. Make sure to keep all of these players reserved in Fantasy leagues for Week 8.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton left the game in the first quarter against Detroit with an apparent ankle injury. He did not return and finished with one catch for 20 yards.
Analysis: Clayton has minimal Fantasy value and is not worth using in Week 8 against Jacksonville, even when healthy. He is behind Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard on the depth chart, and even Maurice Stovall is playing better than Clayton right now.
News: Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton caught two passes for 53 yards Week 6 against the Titans.
Analysis: Clayton is no longer the player he was in a breakout 2004 rookie season. Unless he puts together a string of good games (and not average ones like Sunday's), keep him on the waiver wire. The Buccaneers visit the Lions in Week 7.
News: For the second time this season, Bucs WR Michael Clayton was held without a catch during a Week 5 loss to the Colts. Clayton has just one reception in the other three games and has a total of three catches for 36 yards this season.
Analysis: Clayton is no longer the player he was in a breakout 2004 rookie season. Clayton will need to pick up his production if he is going to be worth using in anything but the deepest of Fantasy leagues. The Bucs play against the Titans in Week 6.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton caught one pass for 13 yards in Week 4 at Carolina.
Analysis: Clayton is no longer the player he was in a breakout 2004 rookie season. Clayton will need to pick up his production if he is going to be worth using in anything but the deepest of Fantasy leagues. The Bucs play at Indianapolis in Week 5.
News: Buccaneers TE Alex Smith had three catches for 27 yards and WR Michael Clayton had a 12-yard grab and two rushes for 2 yards vs. St. Louis in Week 3.
Analysis: Neither player should be considered useful for Fantasy play when the Bucs play at Carolina in Week 4.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton did not record a catch and managed zero total yards during a Week 2 win over the Saints.
Analysis: Clayton is no longer the player he was in a breakout 2004 rookie season. Clayton will need to pick up his production if he is going to be worth using in anything but the deepest of Fantasy leagues. The Buccaneers host the Rams in Week 3.
News: Michael Clayton had one reception for 11 yards in Week 1 at Seattle and he also carried the ball once for no gain.
Analysis: Clayton will need to pick up his production if he is going to be worth using in anything but the deepest of Fantasy leagues. The Buccaneers host the Saints in Week 2.
News: The Buccaneers did not release WR Michael Clayton on Saturday, giving him a spot on their roster for now. Previous rumors suggested that Clayton was on the trading block, but he is still on the Bucs for now.
Analysis: Clayton made an immediate impact as the 15th player selected in the 2004 draft with 80 receptions for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie. In 26 games over the past two seasons, he had 65 catches for 728 yards and one TD. Clayton has been a Fantasy nightmare since his studly rookie season, which is long in the past. Treat him as a low-end Fantasy reserve in the deepest of leagues heading into the season.
News: NFL Network reported that Bucs WR Michael Clayton is on the trading block. Clayton fell out of the competition to start for the club in training camp this summer.

News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton (undisclosed) was able to play during Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars. He had one catch for eight yards.

Treat him as a low-end Fantasy option in deeper leagues heading into season.
News: Ryan Nece started at middle linebacker for the Bucs during Friday's preseason game against the Patriots in place of Barrett Ruud (bruised knee). Also, Michael Clayton and Sabby Piscitelli did not play because of undisclosed minor injuries.
Treat him as a low-end Fantasy option in deeper leagues heading into season. The injury shouldn't keep him out to start the season.
News: Two injury-filled seasons removed from an outstanding rookie year, Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Michael Clayton is healthy again and eager to hold off the competition for his starting job. "Obviously, in this league you have to compete, you have to produce," said Clayton, who's being challenged for playing time by a group of hungry receivers that includes second-year pro Maurice Stovall and former Pro Bowl receiver David Boston. "I'm trying to stay healthy by doing things with my body to put myself in the best position to play for 16 games. It's something I haven't done the past two seasons. That's the best way I'm going to be able to help this team -- by staying healthy."
Treat him as a low-end Fantasy option in deeper leagues heading into season.
News: With fourth-year receiver Michael Clayton underwhelming, the Bucs plan to take a long look at second-year wideout Maurice Stovall and give him some consideration for playing time and possibly the starting job opposite Joey Galloway. "Maurice Stovall isn't here to sign autographs on the sideline," coach Jon Gruden said. "He's here to play and he's going to get a great look here in the offseason. ... Mike Clayton, I think, sees that, realized that, and it will make for a very competitive situation here in training camp."
Analysis: Stovall is a deep sleeper in 2007 Fantasy play because he has the measurables that make him a mismatch problem, but lacks the experience. Clayton has been a Fantasy nightmare since his studly rookie season, which is long in the past. Both receivers probably won't be drafted in 90 percent of Fantasy leagues this summer unless one emerges early in training camp as a starter.
News: Bucs No. 2 WR Michael Clayton again posted a subpar season, catching 33 balls for 356 yards and a touchdown, adding 41 rush yards. Clayton has totaled 65 catches for 728 yards and one touchdown in his second and third seasons after landing 80 catches for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie.
Analysis: The Bucs have to be soured with Clayton at this point and could consider moving him during the offseason. Fantasy owners should be equally fed up and not consider drafting him as anything more than a late-round flier in deeper leagues. He has become impossible to trust in Fantasy play.
News: The Buccaneers placed WR Michael Clayton on Injured Reserve on Tuesday with a knee injury, likely a sprained MCL, ending his season. Clayton played in 12 games this year, starting nine. He finished with 33 catches for 356 yards and one touchdown. The team signed WR Mark Jones to the active roster to take his place.
Analysis: Expectations got high for Clayton as he entered his third season and seemed rededicated to the Buccaneers after an offseason that saw him stay in Tampa Bay and work out with the coaches and trainers. However, it's safe to call Clayton a serious bust at this point as he hasn't produced well at all since his breakout rookie season. Jones won't see much playing time in Clayton's absence -- that may go to Ike Hilliard and rookie Maurice Stovall, both of whom aren't worth adding in seasonal formats (though Stovall is worth owning in deeper keeper leagues).
News: The Tampa Tribune reports Michael Clayton (knee) is questionable for Week 14 against the Falcons.
Analysis: Clayton is not a recommended Fantasy option in Week 14 against Atlanta, as he is really struggling this season with rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski and has been a huge disappointment.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton sprained his left medial collateral ligament against Pittsburgh. Clayton finished with four catches for 57 yards before leaving in the third quarter. He jogged to the locker room but was wearing a knee brace after the game and is scheduled for an MRI exam Monday.
Analysis: Clayton has been disappointing this year and should not be counted on in Fantasy leagues even when healthy.
News: Michael Clayton had four receptions for 57 yards in Week 13 at Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Clayton has been disappointing this season and is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 14 against Atlanta.
News: In the locker room of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice facility Wednesday sat Michael Clayton, a receiver every bit as frustrated about his lack of production. Yet, the Bucs' third-year veteran faced his locker as he spoke softly about his troubles while refusing to join the growing static around the league. "These are tough times for all of us right now, and it's not my job to bark and complain about my role," Clayton said. "I don't want to make any comments and get anything stirred up. There is no beef between me and coach (Jon) Gruden. Everything is copasetic."
Analysis: In 2004, Clayton set a franchise record for receptions by a rookie with 80. He's caught just 69 passes since, including 29 this season. He was slowed by injuries last season. This year he seems invisible at times. Clayton has minimal Fantasy value at this point and should not be used Week 13 against the Steelers.
News: Tampa Bay WR Michael Clayton has become a forgotten man. Two years after setting a franchise record by catching 80 passes as a rookie, he has 29 receptions - one more than reserve running back Michael Pittman. This is not how it was supposed to be. Clayton was going to be the Bucs' go-to guy. Instead he's become an afterthought. And it's killing him. "To feel like you're not a part of it when you walk off the field, sometimes is very stressful," he said. "But I've found ways to keep those feelings away. By playing physical, by blocking, I've found things that make me smile, that make me feel comfortable and make me want to come in and work hard every day."
Analysis: Clayton has minimal Fantasy value at this point.
News: Patriots WR Mark Clayton caught two passes for 31 yards vs. Pittsburgh in Week 12.
Analysis: Clayton is too inconsistent to use as anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR. Use him in that role at Cincinnati in Week 13.
News: Notable Bucs players who played at Dallas on Thanksgiving in Week 12 include: RB Michael Pittman (2-yard carry, 19 yards receiving), WR Michael Clayton (19 receiving yards), RB Earnest Graham (4-yard catch) and WR Ike Hilliard (3-yard catch).
Analysis: Pittman is nice insurance for Cadillac Williams, but none of these other players are reliable Fantasy options and are fringe players at best. The Bucs play at Pittsburgh in Week 13.
News: Notable Bucs players from Week 11 include: FB Mike Alstott (28 rush yards, 8-yard catch), RB Michael Pittman (17 rush yards, 31 receiving yards), WR Michael Clayton (5-yard run, 14-yard catch), WR Ike Hilliard (12-yard catch) and FB Jerald Sowell (6-yard catch).
Analysis: None of these players should start for Fantasy owners at Dallas on Thanksgiving in Week 12. Only Pittman is really worth owning as a backup to Cadillac Williams in deeper leagues.
News: Clayton had two receptions for 22 yards in Week 10 at Carolina.
Analysis: Clayton has 10 receptions for 94 yards with no touchdowns over the past four games. He is not worth using in Week 11 against Washington.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had four receptions for 38 yards in a 31-14 loss to the Saints in Week 9.
Analysis: Clayton continues to be a huge disappointment and is not living up to what seems to be massive potential. Consider him only as a long-term project and don't start him in Week 10 at Carolina.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had only one catch for four yards in Week 8 at the N.Y. Giants. He also dropped a wide-open pass in the end zone.
Analysis: Clayton continues to be a huge disappointment and is not living up to what seems to be massive potential. Consider him only as a long-term project and don't start him in Week 9 vs. New Orleans.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had three catches for 30 yards and a four-yard rush vs. Philadelphia in Week 7. He led the Bucs in receiving yards.
Analysis: Clayton is still too shaky to use in Fantasy play except as a No. 4 WR. He plays at the N.Y. Giants in Week 8.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton caught six passes for 55 yards and a touchdown vs. Cincinnati in Week 6. His touchdown came late in the fourth quarter to give the Bucs the win.
Analysis: Clayton has been a huge disappointment up until now, but don't expect him to keep on the comeback trail. The Bucs play vs. Philadelphia in Week 7; don't expect a big game from Clayton then.
News: Michael Clayton caught only one pass for seven yards at New Orleans Sunday. He also ran a reverse early in the game for 27 yards.
Analysis: That's two weeks in a row that Clayton has been held to just one catch. He'll face Cincinnati's tough D in Week 6 at Tampa Bay, so keep him reserved if you have better options.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had a 14-yard reception vs. Carolina in Week 3.
Analysis: The Fantasy owners that spent a prospective pick on Clayton in drafts may want to cut their losses now, especially with the Bucs on bye in Week 4. Look for a receiver with more upside to own over Clayton, then switch back if you'd like if that new receiver fails to impress. The Bucs play at New Orleans in Week 5.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had five catches for 62 yards at Atlanta in Week 2.
Analysis: Clayton will face the Panthers in Week 3, and that shouldn't be a favorable matchup for him. Continue to keep him on your bench if possible.
News: Michael Clayton had the best day for Bucs' receivers against Baltimore Sunday. But with only three catches for 34 yards, that's like saying he's the smartest idiot.
Analysis: Clayton had a horrible sophomore season, but even this bad game was still better production than the last seven games of 2005. He's still a nice start as a No. 3 WR at Atlanta in Week 2. He caught three balls for 48 yards at the Georgia Dome last year.
News: Michael Clayton is expected to bounce back this season after struggling in his sophomore year. He'll face Baltimore's defense Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
Analysis: A shoulder injury and shaky attitude cost his Fantasy owners a year ago. But Clayton has talent -- witness his rookie numbers (80 catches, 1,193 yards, seven TDs) -- and Chris Simms is more comfortable with the offense. Expect a bounceback season from him, and consider him a decent No. 3 or 4 WR this week.
News: With Joey Galloway on the bench in the first two preseason games, the Buccaneers focused on settling the backup positions. Ike Hilliard, David Boston, Edell Shepherd and Maurice Stovall are in the mix for the No. 3 spot behind Galloway and Michael Clayton.
Analysis: Clayton had a monster rookie year but fizzled in his second season. He will benefit from having some coverage rolled away from him (and rolled to Galloway) to start the year. Consider Clayton with a middle- to late-round pick, because he's in that prized third-year WR breakout group.
News: Michael Clayton saw limited action in Friday's preseason game against the Jets on Friday due to a toe injury. He was the intended receiver on two pass attempts, but he did not have a catch before leaving in the second quarter.
Analysis: Clayton had a monster rookie year but fizzled in his second season. He will benefit from having some coverage rolled away from him (and rolled to Joey Galloway) to start the year. Consider Clayton with a middle- to late-round pick, and hope he performs well this preseason. He's in that prized third-year WR breakout group.
News: Second-year bust Michael Clayton had some words of advice for Cadillac Williams (back spasms). "Take care of your body, man," he told Williams, according to the Orlando Sentinel. "If you can fight through it, fight through -- but be smart. Don't let what you did last year take over your mind. ... I won't let you."
Analysis: Clayton knows all about sophomore jinxes. Clayton had a monster rookie year but fizzled in his second season. He will benefit from having some coverage rolled away from him (and rolled to Joey Galloway) to start the year. Consider Clayton with a middle- to late-round pick, and hope he performs well this preseason. He's in that prized third-year WR breakout group.
News: The Tampa Tribune reports that third-year receiver Michael Clayton has made good on a promise to head coach Jon Gruden to work hard this offseason and get into shape for the 2006 season, something he didn’t do before his disappointing 2005 campaign. Clayton is noticeably thinner, has a new approach to the game and has even been spotted as the only player working out at the Bucs’ facilites at times. "We expect a lot of him, obviously," Gruden said. "It's important to him. He does look good, and hopefully he looks great soon."
Analysis: This is very encouraging news for those looking to find sleeper receivers in Fantasy drafts this summer. Clayton had a monster rookie year but fizzled in his second season. He will benefit from having some coverage rolled away from him (and rolled to Joey Galloway) to start the year. Consider Clayton with a middle- to late-round pick, and hope he performs well this preseason.
News: The Tampa Tribune reports Michael Clayton (shoulder) is participating in the Buccaneers offseason workout program without pain. He is looking to rebound from an awful sophomore season.
Analysis: Clayton could be a forgotten man in drafts after he became invisible for the Bucs last season, so consider him a nice sleeper candidate.
News: Michael Clayton recorded 32 receptions, 372 yards and no TDs in 14 games (10 starts) this season as the No. 2 wide receiver in Tampa Bay. He was an enormous bust compared to his rookie totals (80 reception, 1,193 yards, seven TDs).
Analysis: Whether or not injuries or the re-emergence of Joey Galloway were to blame are uncertain, but Clayton was one of the season's biggest busts. He'll be worth no more than a middle- to late-round selection in 2006 drafts.
News: Michael Clayton (toe) is out for Wild Card weekend vs. Washington. Ike Hilliard is expected to start in his absence.
Analysis: Clayton was a bust in the regular season, and now he'll be unavailable in what would have been his postseason debut.

Analysis: Clayton has no Fantasy value for the remainder of the 2005 season.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton continued the world's worst sophomore slump, catching two passes for 26 yards at New England in Week 15.
Analysis: If we could put icicles next to this guy's name, we would. The former first-round pick hasn't totaled 400 receiving yards this season and has yet to score a touchdown in 2005. If you haven't cut this guy by now, you're hurting your team.
News: Michael Clayton caught one pass for 12 yards in Week 14 at Carolina.

Analysis: Clayton has been an enormous disappointment this season and is not a recommended option in most cases.
News: The Tampa Tribune reports Bucs WR Michael Clayton (knee) said he plans to play Sunday against the Falcons in Week 11. "This is the first time in my career I've ever been out this long, I mean during the season, so it's good for me to be able to run, be able to mingle with the guys, create some chemistry and be back," Clayton said. "(The rest) was just what I needed." Clayton did practice on Thursday, improving his chances of playing.

News: The Tribune reports Michael Clayton (knee) did not practice on Thursday, and Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden announced that Ike Hilliard will start in Clayton's place in Week 10.
Analysis: Clayton might not even be active against Washington. Owners in larger leagues could do worse than add Hilliard and start him as a third receiver.

News: Michael Clayton had four receptions for 30 yards in Week 8 at San Francisco.
Analysis: Clayton was expected to be the team's No. 1 receiver, but he continues to be outplayed by Joey Galloway. He is a decent No. 3 or 4 Fantasy receiver or 'flex' player in Week 9 against Carolina.
News: WR Michael Clayton might benefit from the change at quarterback. Under Brian Griese, he had two catches in the past to games prior to playing the Dolphins. After Chris Simms entered the game Sunday, Clayton caught two passes.
Analysis: Clayton has to be reserved in Week 7 while on bye, but this tidbit is something to keep in mind going forward. Clayton has been a bust thus far, but there might be hope for him.
News: Bucs WR Michael Clayton had two grabs for 27 yards vs. Miami in Week 6. e is playing with a sore shoulder.
Analysis: Clayton should have found the bench by now in Fantasy leagues.
News: The Tampa Tribune reports that head coach Jon Gruden plans to use Clayton more Sunday against Miami -- especially after a week in which he had no catches and was thrown to only once.
