News: The Colts signed running back Mewelde Moore Tuesday.
Analysis: The Colts are decimated by injuries at running back, so they needed to add healthy bodies. The Colts also signed Deji Karim Tuesday. Moore is a veteran NFL back and might be needed to help on offense Week 15 at Houston, but he is not a recommended Fantasy option. Vick Ballard will still be the lead back for Indianapolis.
News: The Colts released running back Mewelde Moore on Monday. Moore gained 14 yards on nine carries this season and also caught four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Moore had a couple of productive years earlier in his career but is no longer a viable option in Fantasy at this point. Continue to ignore the 30-year-old in all formats.
News: Indianapolis running back Mewelde Moore collected just three total touches during Week 3 against Jacksonville, but was still able to reach the end zone during the Colts' 22-17 loss Sunday. Moore hauled in a 4-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Luck in the second quarter on his only target from the rookie to give Indianapolis a 14-3 lead. It was his first touchdown since signing with the Colts during the offseason.
Analysis: Moore failed to generate much activity on the ground and failed to gain positive yards on two carries. In fact, two of his three carries overall this season have been for negative yards and he is not entrusted with sufficient playing time. Barring an injury, the Colts will continue to run carries through Donald Brown and Vick Ballard this season, and Moore should remain untouched in all Fantasy formats at this point.
News: Colts new running back Mewelde Moore, signed in June, got his first taste of action with his new team in Sunday's preseason opener against the Rams. Moore only ended up seeing two carries in the game for 4 yards. He also made one grab for 9 yards for the Colts. Indianapolis was led in rushing by Vick Ballard and Donald Brown caught a 63-yard touchdown pass early in the game.
Analysis: Moore is expected to be third-string behind Brown and Delone Carter for the Colts this season. He should see some carries during the regular season, but isn't expected to put up big numbers unless something unexpected occurs. Ignore Moore in most formats on Draft Day.
News: The Colts have signed free agent running back Mewelde Moore on Tuesday. Moore is entering his ninth NFL season and adds depth to a backfield with few proven veterans. He spent his first four seasons in Minnesota, the last four in Pittsburgh and has rushed 494 times for 2,247 yards with six touchdowns in his career. Moore also has caught 214 passes for 1,875 and seven scores.
Analysis: Moore could help the Colts on special teams and on third downs. He has minimal Fantasy value outside of the deepest of PPR leagues barring an injury to Donald Brown or Delonte Carter. Ignore Moore in most formats on Draft Day.
News: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Steelers RB Mewelde Moore (knee) will not play Sunday in the AFC Wild Card game at Denver. Moore was originally hurt in Week 15 against San Francisco.
Analysis: Keep Moore reserved in all Fantasy Playoff leagues. When healthy, he has minimal Fantasy value in most formats. He should not be drafted heading into 2012.
News: As expected, Steelers RB Mewelde Moore has been ruled inactive for Week 16 against the Rams. Moore sprained a ligament in knee during Pittsburgh's loss to the 49ers last week and will be out indefinitely, according to the Beaver County Times.
Analysis: Moore is likely out for the rest of the regular season, but he might be able to return sometime during the playoffs. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status moving forward to see if or when he will be able to get back on the field. However, the 29-year-old has topped 20 yards on three times this, so he doesn't hold much value, even when healthy.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore has a sprained knee ligament and will be out indefinitely, according to the Beaver County Times. Moore apparently sustained the injury during the Steelers' loss at San Francisco on Monday night. He finished with one carry for 21 yards while hauling in two passes for another five yards against the 49ers. Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said the team will make a roster move in Moore's absence.
Analysis: Although he registered just one attempt, Moore rushing total was his finest in weeks. The 29-year-old has topped 20 yards on three times this season with the last occasion coming on Oct. 23 against Arizona. He was stuck behind Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman on the depth chart and wasn't a major Fantasy contributor. Fantasy owners should leave him on waivers for the rest of the season.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore had his best performance in awhile in Week 15 against the 49ers. He caught two passes for 5 yards and also had a 21-yard run in the 20-3 loss. Moore finished second on Pittsburgh in rushing behind RB Rashard Mendenhall (64 yards).
Analysis: Moore usually sees a couple of touches per game but remains third on the depth chart behind Mendenhall and Isaac Redman. With only two games left in the season, continue to ignore the 29-year-old in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore carried the ball three times for 15 yards in Week 14 versus Cleveland. The Steelers would win the game, 14-3.
Analysis: Moore isn't used much in the offense for Pittsburgh, especially with Rashard Mendenhall playing so well. He is more of a handcuff option at this stage of the season. Entering Week 14 San Francisco boasted the best run defense in the league, allowing just 71.8 yards per contest. They also have not given up a score on the ground. Moore is not a recommended Fantasy option moving forward.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore had a 13-yard rush vs. the Bengals in Week 13. He also had a target but he didn't come up with the catch.
Analysis: Moore doesn't get much action from week to week, so fantasy owners shouldn't concern themselves with him unless injuries befall other Steelers running backs. He plays vs. the Browns in Week 14.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore saw a couple of touches in Week 13 against the Chiefs but he was not able to do much with them. He gained 16 yards on two carries and also caught three passes for 9 yards in the 13-9 win. He lost a fumble in the red zone early in the contest and finished third on Pittsburgh in rushing.
Analysis: Moore sees some touches here and there for the Steelers but he is basically an insurance policy for Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman at this point. Until his role improves in Pittsburgh, continue to ignore him in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore scored his first touchdown of the season in Week 8 against New England. Moore caught a 5-yard slant pass from Ben Roethlisberger to open the game on Sunday extending the Steelers streak to four straight weeks of scoring on the opening drive. He finished the game with one carry for 16 yards and two catches for 29 yards. Pittsburgh would win the game, 25-17.
Analysis: Moore has been used in mop-up duty most of this year, but got some significant snaps in Week 8. Fantasy owners should monitor him during the week to see if Pittsburgh plans on using him in the offense more moving forward. If not, he's merely a handcuff option and not a recommended Fantasy start. In Week 9, the Steelers host the Ravens. Baltimore is one of the best teams against the run so far this year, allowing 89.1 rushing yards per contest. The Ravens also have allowed just two rushing scores and one run longer than 20 yards this season.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore finished with mop-up duty in the Week 7 win at Arizona on Sunday. Moore finished the game with six carries for 26 yards for the Steelers running behind both Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman. Moore's longest run of the game was 9 yards.
Analysis: Moore entered the Week 7 game without a rushing attempt in the previous two contests against Tennessee and Jacksonville. The Steelers have two more prevalent running backs on the roster in Redman and Mendenhall, so Moore is going to go with little production more often than not. Moore is not a recommended Fantasy start heading into Week 8 against New England.
News: As expected, Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore was inactive for Week 6 against Jacksonville because of a persistent ankle injury. Moore did not practice throughout the past week and was also inactive for Week 5 against Tennessee.
Analysis: With starting RB Rashard Mendenhall back from a hamstring injury, Moore was not expected to see much playing time. Moore has just six carries in four games this season and should not be considered a worthwhile option in most Fantasy formats when healthy.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore was ruled out for Week 6 against Jacksonville as he continues to deal with a troublesome ankle injury. Moore, who did not practice throughout the week, was inactive for the team's Week 5 game against Tennessee.
Analysis: Moore was not expected to see much playing time as starting RB Rashard Mendenhall is closer to full strength following a hamstring injury. Moore has just six carries in four games this season and should not be considered a worthwhile option in most Fantasy formats.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore (ankle) was inactive for Week 5 against the Titans. Moore had been ruled out for the game back on Thursday.
Analysis: Moore could miss time beyond Week 5, so in the very deep leagues where he has some relevance, owners should plan on finding other alternatives. Since Rashard Mendenhall may not play at all due to injury in Week 5, Isaac Redman should get a large share of the carries against the Titans.
News: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Steelers RB Mewelde Moore (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans. Moore, who was seen at the team's facility wearing a walking boot on Monday, has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain.
Analysis: Moore could miss a few weeks with this type of injury, opening up playing time for Isaac Redman. With Rashard Mendenhall also dealing with an injury, Redman could see significant playing time in Week 5 against the Titans. When healthy, Moore has been little more than a third-down back. He should not be owned in most Fantasy formats.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore left the team's practice facility on Monday in a walking boot. The team said Moore has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore was a solid contributor for the Steelers on Sunday at Houston. Moore had four carries for 34 yards, and he saw increased playing time with Rashard Mendenhall (hamstring) hurt.
Analysis: Moore could see an increase in touches in Week 5 against Tennessee if Mendenhall is out or limited. Moore would likely share time with Isaac Redman, and Moore would be worth a look in deep leagues, especially PPR formats. Keep an eye on what happens with Mendenhall, but Moore's value could rise in Week 5.
News: After not receiving a rushing attempt in each of the first two games this season, Steelers RB Mewelde Moore find saw some touches in Week 3 against the Colts. He carried the ball two times for 9 yards in the 23-20 win. Moore also had a 22-yard reception in the victory.
Analysis: Moore remains third on the depth chart behind Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman and will continue to see minimal touches on a weekly basis. Continue to ignore him in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore had one catch for 9 yards Sunday against the Seahawks. It was his only target in the game.
Analysis: Moore is the No. 3 RB for the Steelers behind Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman and has minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in all leagues in Week 3 at the Colts.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore didn't touch the football until the second half of the Week 1 loss at Baltimore. With the Steelers comfortably out of the contest, Pittsburgh started giving Moore the ball. Moore finished with two catches for 30 yards in the game and had a long grab of 22 yards. He also lost a fumble for the Steelers.
Analysis: Moore was not used in the running game as Isaac Redman was the backup to Rashard Mendenhall. Moore will get some catches this season, but is not a recommended Fantasy option heading into Week 2 against Seattle.
News: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Sunday that the Steelers were able to agree to terms with free agent RB Mewelde Moore. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the veteran is expected to be a third-down back once again.
Analysis: Moore had 33 carries for 99 yards a season ago and 26 catches for 205 yards as a limited player, so he figures to put up similar numbers in 2011. Unless he somehow sees more playing time, Moore should be ignored on Draft Day in all formats.
News: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Steelers RB Mewelde Moore returned to practice Thursday. Moore missed Week 17 at Cleveland with a knee injury. He is expected to play in the divisional round of the playoffs with the Steelers on a bye in Round 1.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Moore heading into the second round of the playoffs, but he has minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in all Fantasy Playoff leagues, and he should not be drafted in most formats in 2011.
News: Steelers backup RB Mewelde Moore (knee), who was ruled out earlier this week for Week 17 at Cleveland, was officially ruled inactive on Sunday morning.
Analysis: Moore isn't huge part of the Steelers offense, and his presence won't be missed too much, especially as Redman is pretty capable. Moore was just a handcuff for Mendenhall owners this season and will likely be the same next season if he sticks around.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore (knee) has ruled out Friday for Pittsburgh's finale against the Browns. Isaac Redman will back up starter Rashard Mendenhall.
Analysis: Moore isn't huge part of the Steelers offense, and his presence won't be missed too much, especially as Redman is pretty capable. Moore was just a handcuff for Mendenhall owners this season and will likely be the same next season if he sticks around.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore sprained his knee in the Panthers game last Thursday and is questionable for Sunday at Cleveland.
Analysis: Moore typically only gets a couple of touches per week, so owners shouldn't be too disappointed with this news. He's not worth owning at this stage of the Fantasy game.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore totaled just five yards on four carries in the Steelers' 27-3 victory over Carolina in Week 16 on Thursday night. Moore tallied four attempts for the third consecutive game and managed one of his lowest outputs of the season. Moore also caught a pass for 11 yards on his one target in the game.
Analysis: Moore's contributions in the Pittsburgh offense remain limited behind starter Rashard Mendenhall as he has failed to reach 20 yards in a game this season. In his last four games, Moore now has 12 carries for just 30 yards and no touchdowns. He's not worth owning in any Fantasy format at this point in the season.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore didn't do much in Week 15 against New York, but he did contribute. He carried the ball four times, rushing for 7 yards. He also caught the lone pass thrown his way, but would get stuffed at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Moore was tackled in the end zone for a safety by Jason Taylor with 2:38 remaining. That is all the veteran back would manage in the team's 22-17 loss.
Analysis: Moore is still the change-of-pace back for the Steelers, but doesn't get any touches. He may get more looks in Week 16 when Pittsburgh hosts Carolina. The Panthers give up 132 rushing yards per contest this year, but Fantasy owners should not feel the need to add him to their rosters. He doesn't have much Fantasy value.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore ran three times for 12 yards and caught four passes for 33 yards in a Week 12 overtime win in Buffalo.
Analysis: Moore continues to relieve Rashard Mendenhall in the running game and get a catch here and there from QB Ben Roethlisberger, but he remains more of a handcuff to Mendenhall's owners than anything heading into Week 13 at Baltimore.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore caught three passes for 17 yards in the Week 11 blowout win over the Raiders. Moore, who was targeted four times in the passing game, also rushed once for 2 yards.
Analysis: Moore is really nothing more than a backup running back for the Steelers behind Rashard Mendenhall. Plus, Isaac Redman had a pretty good game against the Raiders and may have passed him on the depth chart. We do not recommend Moore's use in any Fantasy league for Week 12 at Buffalo.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore, who had to pass a concussion test to play in the Week 10 game against the Patriots, totaled 93 yards in the loss. He carried the ball for just 14 yards on four carries, but he was an active target for Ben Roethlisberger and caught all five passes that came his way. Moore extended most of those opportunities for a total of 79 yards through the air. He also scored on a couple of two-point conversions as the Steelers tried to climb their way back from a double-digit deficit.
Analysis: Moore and the rest of Roethlisberger's targets were the product of the game situation after the Patriots extended their lead in the second half. New England's defense was in the prevent and the Steelers had freedom to rack up yards underneath. In Week 11, Moore will look to contribute against the Raiders, who sport the NFL's second best pass defense and 25th-ranked rush defense. Unless the game becomes a shootout like Sunday night, we do not recommend using him in most formats heading into Week 11.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore passed his concussion test Wednesday and practiced in full Wednesday. Pittsburgh hosts New England in Week 10.
Analysis: Moore had just 5 yards rushing on two carries in the 27-21 win over Cincinnati on Monday night and continues to see minimal carries behind Rashard Mendenhall. Continue to just stash him away as a handcuff to Mendy in deeper formats.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore sustained a concussion Monday night against the Bengals and will undergo post-concussion tests early this week.
Analysis: Moore had just 5 yards rushing on two carries in the 27-21 win on Monday night and continues to see minimal carries behind Rashard Mendenhall. Continue to just stash him away as a handcuff to Mendy in deeper formats.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore was a non-factor in Week 9 against the Bengals. Moore had just 5 yards rushing on two carries in the 27-21 win with a long of 3 yards. He also had two receptions for 2 yards and did not score in the contest.
Analysis: Moore was again not much of a factor in Week 9 as he was again used more as a blocking back on passing downs. He continues to serve as the primary backup to Rashard Mendenhall and is not worth starting in most Fantasy leagues at this point. Leave him on the bench heading into Week 10.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore only saw two carries in the Week 8 game against the Saints. He totaled 19 yards on the carries, including an 18-yarder in the first quarter. Earlier in the week, it seemed like Moore would get more touches because of tentative running from starter Rashard Mendenhall with a bad shoulder, but he received his normal heavy-dose of carries.
Analysis: Moore was again relegated to change-of-pace duty in the loss to New Orleans. It seems like the Steelers have figured out how they want to run the ball and Moore is not a big enough factor in that plan unless something happens to Mendenhall. He should probably be benched in all formats moving forward.
News: RB Rashard Mendenhall ran tentative in the Week 7 game against the Dolphins because of a bruised shoulder. If he continues to be bothered by it look for Mewelde Moore to get more playing time in Week 8 against the Saints. New Orleans gives up 108.7 yards per game on the ground, 17th in the NFL. They give up less than 4 yards per carry to opposing RBs.
Analysis: Moore contributed 59 total yards in Week 7 on eight touches. Monitor Mendenhall's status throughout the week, but if he can't play, Moore's Fantasy value skyrockets. Keep in mind that Mendenhall is not showing up on the official injury report. As the second back, he remains a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore ran four times for 11 yards and caught four passes for 48 yards in a Week 7 win at Miami.
Analysis: Moore filled in for Rashard Mendenhall on one drive in the first quarter and then again in the fourth quarter as Mendenhall reportedly dealt with some late dehydration. Moore will likely continue to get the odd carry here and there and a good amount of targets in the passing game, but will remain more of a handcuff option in Fantasy play for the time being. Pittsburgh plays at New Orleans in Week 8.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore did not record an offensive statistic in Week 4 against the Ravens. He has not had more than two carries in any of the team's first four games.
Analysis: Moore saw very limited playing time on an afternoon where Rashard Mendenhall saw the only carries among Steelers running backs. He should continue to see a great majority of the touches going forward, making Moore obsolete in Fantasy while Mendenhall is healthy.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore has three touches in each of the first three games. His limited role could change in Week 4 against the Ravens, a team Moore has showed versatility against. He has totaled 78 yards rushing 79 yards receiving in his career against Baltimore (five games). The Ravens showed vulnerability to the run game in Week 3, when Peyton Hillis gashed them for a surprising 144 yards on the ground.
Analysis: Moore faces the Ravens defense, that ranks number one against the pass (allowing 116.7 yards per game). Baltimore's run defense ranks 23rd, allowing over 127 yards a game. Both are important to consider when defending Moore, who has one more catch than rush attempt in 2010. Still, the game is expected to be a defensive struggle. Consider Moore to be a low-end Fantasy RB Week 4 against the Ravens.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore totaled one carry for 4 yards and two catches for 4 yards in Week 3 against the Bucs. Moore has managed three touches in each of the first three games.
Analysis: The Steelers keep Moore around for his veteran presence, but clearly he is not very high on the depth chart. Until that changes, he is just going to get a few touches per week and not make a Fantasy impact. He is probably overowned at 8 percent of Fantasy leagues. Keep him reserved heading into Week 4 against the Ravens.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore got three touches in Week 2 against the Titans in Tennessee. He finished the game with two carries for a total of 1 yard and one catch for a 1-yard gain.
Analysis: Moore has been behind Isaac Redman in the pecking order for the first two weeks of the regular season. That puts Moore as the No. 3 RB for a Steelers team that has been giving Rashard Mendenhall 20-plus carries per game. Moore is a versatile back that can be used in the passing game, but he is not yet worth activating in any Fantasy league.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore was not used much in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, rushing just once for no gain in an overtime win. His chances of seeing more carries in Week 2 against the Titans could be a little better. The Titans allowed 95 rushing yards on 18 carries to Raiders RB Darren McFadden. He also totaled 55 receiving yards on six catches, including a touchdown.
Analysis: Moore is a versatile back that can be used in the passing game. Considering the success the Raiders had with swing passes to McFadden, Moore may be used in that role at least some in Week 2. Heading into Week 1, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he would use his running backs to limit overworking starter Rashard Mendenhall. That never happened. In Week 2, the Steelers could choose to use Moore simply to exploit favorable matchups. It likely won't be enough to make much of an impact in Fantasy, but we do expect him to see more action than he saw in Week 1.
News: Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said heading into Week 1 against the Falcons that he might use his backup running backs, including Mewelde Moore, if he feels starting RB Rashard Mendenhall was being used too much. Well, apparently Tomlin didn't feel Mendenhall was being overused. The backup running backs combined for seven carries, including one from Moore, who picked up no yards. Moore also had two catches for 3 yards.
Analysis: The Steelers love Moore for his versatility. He is probably most valuable to the Steelers in passing situations, but as long as Mendenhall is healthy, he won't see many touches out of the backfield. Moore remains a bad Fantasy option heading into Week 2. The Steelers play the Titans. Moore had five carries for 8 yards against Tennessee last season.
News: Leading up to Week 1 against the Falcons, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he won't be afraid to lean on Mewelde Moore and Isaac Redman, if he feels RB Rashard Mendenhall is being overused. "We are going to monitor (Mendenhall's) touches simply because that's the appropriate thing to do this early in the season," Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "He is going to be in; he is capable of staying in on third downs. But, of course, we're also capable of inserting a Mewelde Moore or even an Isaac Redman for that matter. We're going to be thoughtfully non-rhythmic here as we get started but for different reasons, one to preserve Rashard to be inclusive to the contributions of those men."
Analysis: Moore is a veteran back that brings a lot of experience to the Pittsburgh backfield. However, these days he is more of a third-down back and special teams contributor. Moore might only get a handful of touches in Week 1 against Atlanta. He has played the Falcons just once in his career, which came in 2005 with Minnesota. He compiled 57 yards on 14 carries and 63 receiving yards on six receptions. Moore is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 1.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore was one of five running backs to get a carry for Pittsburgh during Sunday's preseason game against the Broncos. Moore had four carries for 10 yards. He also had one target on a third-down pass from Ben Roethlisberger in the first quarter. Moore has totaled 10 carries for 40 yards in the preseason.
Analysis: We basically saw on Sunday how the Steelers intend to use Moore. He will be a third-down back that will get token carries behind Rashard Mendenhall. Pittsburgh loves Moore because of his versatility, but since we can't expect a steady stream of stats, it's tough to rely on him in Fantasy. He is basically a handcuff option for Mendenhall owners or a late-round option in PPR leagues because of his pass-catching skills.
News: RB Mewelde Moore serves in multiple roles for the Steelers, but he doesn't seem bothered by the fact he is asked to take on many tasks. "Today, I'm a third-down back, tomorrow a starter," he said. "Three days later, I'm a kick returner. Whatever I'm asked to do, that's what I am."
Analysis: Early in training camp it looks like Moore will be the team's second-string RB when the season opens. He will be behind Rashard Mendenhall, but will have to fend off promising rookie Jonathan Dwyer. Moore has stepped up in the past when Pittsburgh has had its injury and depth issues at RB, but he isn't going to be a heavily-drafted Fantasy player. He is basically a handcuff option for Mendenhall owners or a late-round option in PPR leagues because of his pass-catching skills.
News: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said second-year RB Isaac Redman and rookie Jonathan Dwyer will get a chance to compete to be the short-yardage back. Rashard Mendenhall remains the starter, but he could come out during short-yardage situations. And Mewelde Moore remains the most likely candidate for passing-down situations.
Analysis: Moore is worth drafting with a late-round pick in leagues where receptions count, but unless Mendenhall gets injured he isn't going to post enough quality stats to help your Fantasy team. He could be a good source of receptions, especially with the Steelers sending Santonio Holmes to the Jets this offseason.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore was held to one 8-yard catch in a Week 17 win at Miami.
Analysis: Moore spent most of 2009 as the third-string RB in Pittsburgh, but could head into 2010 as the main backup behind Rashard Mendenhall if Willie Parker leaves as expected. Moore iwll only be worth drafting in deeper leagues as a handcuff to Mendenhall, however.
News: Steeler RB Mewelde Moore had one carry for minus-2 yards Sunday against Baltimore.
Analysis: Moore is the No. 3 RB for the Steelers behind Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker. He should not be used in Week 17 at Miami.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore caught three passes for 25 yards Week 15 against the Packers, scoring on a 10-yard pass in the second quarter. The touchdown was his second of the season and first since Week 4 against the Chargers.
Analysis: Moore has just one carry over his last three games, but he's still good for a few catches. Still, he doesn't figure to steal enough touches from Rashard Mendenhall to make an impact in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers for Week 16 against the Ravens.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore did not record a stat on Thursday in a Week 14 loss at Cleveland. It was the first time all season that he was held completely off the stat sheet. Moore did however return three kicks and fair caught a punt.
Analysis: Moore typically only gets a few carries per game alongside Willie Parker, with both players backing up starter Rashard Mendenhall. Moore is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 15 against Green Bay.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore rushed once for 7 yards in the Week 13 loss to Oakland. Moore added one catch for 6 yards.
Analysis: Moore only gets a few carries per game alongside Willie Parker behind Rashard Mendenhall in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh plays at Cleveland in Week 14. Do not use Moore in that game.
News: Steelers backup RB Mewelde Moore had 2 yards on four carries at Baltimore in Week 12.
Analysis: Moore is nothing more than a third-down back who only saw extended carries this week because the Steelers opted to run more. He's unlikely to produce enough stats to warrant Fantasy use going forward.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore carried twice in Week 11 at Kansas City, totaling just 1 yard. He did not have any catches in the game.
Analysis: Moore is not in a situation on the depth chart where the team is going to be giving him many carries. Until that changes, he is not worth activating in Fantasy.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore had two carries for 21 yards and caught two passes for 14 yards Sunday against the Bengals.
Analysis: Moore is the No. 3 RB for the Steelers behind Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker. Don't plan on using Moore in Week 11 at Kansas City.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore rushed four times late in the Monday night win over Denver in Week 9. Moore totaled 18 yards and had a long carry of 12.
Analysis: Moore has just 89 rushing yards on 25 carries this season for the Steelers. With Rashard Mendenhall playing so well and Willie Parker not playing at all, it seems Moore's role is that of a handcuff for Mendenhall. He has no other Fantasy value at this time and doesn't need to be used Week 10 against the Bengals.
News: The Steelers visit Denver in Week 9, and Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore will try to contribute for his few Fantasy owners against the league's third-ranked run defense.
Analysis: Moore has zero catches in his last two games and is slipping down the Fantasy RB rankings. Only use him as a low-end flex option or bye-week replacement in Week 9.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore had 14 yards on four carries with no catches in Week 7 vs. the Vikings. Moore was used as the feature back in the fourth quarter, which is what they did the week before against the Browns.
Analysis: Moore and the Steelers are on bye in Week 8 and play in Week 9 at Denver. Moore remains nothing more than a bye-week replacement option in the deepest of PPR leagues.
News: Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall rushed 17 times for 62 yards in Week 6 against Cleveland to lead all rushers. He scored a 2-yard touchdown in the third quarter, but he also lost a fumble in the game. Mendhenhall also caught two passes for 15 yards. Willie Parker rushed seven times for 26 yards and caught one pass for nine yards. Mewelde Moore rushed five times for 20 yards.
Analysis: Despite the presence of Parker, it was Mendhenhall who shouldered the load in Week 6. It appears the Steelers are ready to move forward with Mendenhall as their featured back and Parker will likely be looking at a lot of performances similar to what he saw on Sunday. While Mendenhall is healthy, Parker will be a low-end Fantasy option. The Steelers will face a very tough run defense in Week 7 against Minnesota, which makes Parker a player to sit in all leagues. Moore is only worth stashing in larger formats.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore isn't expected to start Week 6 against the Browns, but he might find some playing time anyway. Second-year running back Rashard Mendenhall is ill and might not play, leaving Willie Parker to start. And, the matchup is against the Browns, which means Moore might see carries in the second half if the game is a blowout.
Analysis: Moore is a speed rusher with great hands to catch passes out of the backfield, and we think Ben Roethisberger likes to throw to him. Essentially, Moore would be in play as a flex option in deeper leagues if Mendenhall misses Week 6. If you're desperate for a running back, consider adding Moore off of waivers.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore rushed twice for 8 yards in a Week 5 win over the Lions. Moore also caught three passes for 20 yards.
Analysis: Moore only has 37 rushing yards on the season for the Steelers and he's just a backup behind Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker, when he's healthy. Moore barely gets carries when Parker isn't healthy so his Fantasy value is extremely limited. He does have 14 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown, but that isn't enough to consider using him in Fantasy for Week 6 at home against Cleveland.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore will face a favorable matchup in Week 5 at Detroit against the Lions. The Lions rank 20th against the run, allowing an average of 121.2 yards per game. They have allowed four rushing touchdowns in four games.
Analysis: Moore only ran the ball twice for 2 yards vs. the Chargers in Week 4, but he caught three passes for 31 yards with a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass. He continued to see limited playing time even with Willie Parker out with a toe injury thanks to RB Rashard Mendenhall's breakout performance. Parker is unlikely to play in Week 5 and we expect Mendhenhall to see the majority of the touches, but Moore does have some outside value in deeper formats where an injury or bye week replacement option may be needed thanks to what appears to be a favorable matchup. If the Steelers go up early, they should run the ball often in the second half.
News: The bad news for Mewelde Moore is that he only ran the ball twice for 2 yards vs. the Chargers in Week 4. The good news? He caught three passes for 31 yards with a touchdown and threw a touchdown to TE Heath Miller from 6 yards out. Moore continued to see limited playing time even with Willie Parker out with a toe injury thanks to RB Rashard Mendenhall slamming the Chargers on 29 carries.
Analysis: Moore continues to show his trademark versatility, the kind of stuff that makes him worth owning as a reserve Fantasy RB. He should be up for another decent outing at Detroit in Week 5, though we doubt that he'll throw many touchdown passes for the rest of the season. Consider him as a low-end bye-week replacement option for Week 5.
News: Pittsburgh named RB Rashard Mendenhall the starter on Sunday night against San Diego with Willie Parker inactive. Backup RB Mewelde Moore will also see increased touches.
Analysis: Moore becomes an instant sleeper since he has tremendous value as a receiver out of the backfield. He should be a decent low-end start in PPR leagues.
News: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers on Sunday determined that RB Willie Parker will not be able to play against San Diego because of turf toe. Rashard Mendenhall will start against the Chargers, and the Steelers will use Mewelde Moore and Carey Davis as part of the rotation.
Analysis: Keep Parker reserved in all leagues for Week 4 against the Chargers. Remember, this is just a report, and inactives have not been released yet by the team. But since Parker did not practice all week, all signs point to him missing the game. Mendenhall should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy option, and Moore becomes an instant sleeper since he has tremendous value as a receiver out of the backfield. Ignore Davis in all formats.
News: Steelers RB Willie Parker (toe) missed practice Friday and is now listed as doubtful for Week 4 against San Diego on the injury report. Parker has not practiced all week. Typically, if a player does not practice Friday, he does not play on Sunday. Rashard Mendenhall is likely to start in his place. Mewelde Moore should also see a good amount of touches.
Analysis: Parker has good history against the Chargers, but now it will be Rashard Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore who will share Parker's reps against a Chargers run defense that not only ranks low this year but was destroyed by the Steelers' run game (via Parker) twice last year. Look for Mendenhall to work the rushing downs and Moore to work the passing downs as well as be on the field when the Steelers go to the no-huddle offense. Both backup RBs are good replacements for Parker, as are waiver-wire gems Glen Coffee, Tashard Choice and even Jerome Harrison if you're in a league where receptions count.
News: After sitting out a third straight practice on Friday, Steelers RB Willie Parker isn't expected to play vs. the Chargers on Sunday as he battles turf toe. Typically if a player doesn't practice by Friday, he's not expected to play by Sunday. Rashard Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore would share Parker's reps against a Chargers run defense that not only ranks low this year but was destroyed by the Steelers' run game (via Parker) twice last year.
Analysis: We'll keep you posted on the latest with Parker, but you can probably expect him to miss the team's Week 4 game, which is bad considering his history against the Chargers. Look for Mendenhall to work the rushing downs and Moore to work the passing downs as well as be on the field when the Steelers go to the no-huddle offense. Both backup RBs are good replacements for Parker.
News: Steelers RB Willie Parker did not practice Wednesday because of a case of turf toe on his right foot and is questionable for Sunday's game against San Diego. Parker was apparently injured in last week's game at Cincinnati when he ran 25 times for 93 yards and caught two passes for 36 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Parker's status the rest of the week and see if he's able to return to practice. The injury doesn't sound serious, but toe injuries have limited running backs in the past (LaDainian Tomlinson, Darren McFadden, Marion Barber and Felix Jones in 2008). If Parker is unable to play, the Steelers would turn to Rashard Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore, who would see an increase in value against the Chargers.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore, who had five touches for 28 yards last week, had only two touches for 12 yards Week 3 at Cincinnati. He had a six-yard run and a six-yard reception.
Analysis: Moore was part of a three-headed backfield with Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall, but Parker got 25 of the team's 26 carries Sunday. Moore likely won't make a big enough contribution to start in Fantasy. He's just a handcuff option for Parker owners. The Steelers host the Chargers in Week 4.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore will face the Bengals on the road in Week 3. Cincy ranks a respectable 11th against the run this season.
Analysis: Moore has just seven carries this season, but is at least managing to earn some carries along with Rashard Mendenhall in relief of Willie Parker. If you must use Moore in Week 2, then do so as just a flex option in deeper leagues.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore played a role in the passing game as expected Week 2 at Chicago, hauling in three passes for 15 yards. He also ran two times for 13 yards. He has to split touches with Rashard Mendenhall and starter Willie Parker.
Analysis: Moore came back into the fold in Fantasy last year when Parker and Mendenhall got hurt, but with both of them healthy, he's just a role player. Leave him on waivers for Week 3 at Cincinnati.
News: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette outlines the plan of attack the Steelers will use in deploying their run game at Chicago in Week 2. Willie Parker will start and is expected to be used in the first two series, then Rashard Mendenhall will come in for one series. They'll rotate from there with Parker getting twice the series. Mewelde Moore will also see playing time on passing downs and when the Steelers go into a no-huddle offense. Adding to the intrigue of the situation is that offensive coordinator Bruce Arians won't count on one guy for short-yardage or goal-line situations. "Anytime Willie gets tired, he can come out," Arians said. "If we get into a very long no-huddle mode, Mewelde is the no-huddle guy and we'll rotate from there. In short yardage, goal line, whoever's in the game."
Analysis: This pushes down the Fantasy value of all three backs going forward. Parker is no better than No. 3 option at Chicago and beyond since his playing time is being shortened significantly (he also hasn't played well). Mendenhall actually is worse than Parker because he won't play as much. Moore fits in as a No. 3 option in PPR leagues only, but we have a hunch that the Steelers will utilize him more going forward, so he'll have a chance to improve his Fantasy stock.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore totaled five carries for eight yards during a Week 1 win against the Titans. His longest carry went for four yards. Moore did a better job catching the football, hauling in four receptions for 28 yards.
Analysis: Moore got a lot of touches late in the game as Pittsburgh was in many passing situations. When everyone is healthy, Moore pops up a lot as a third-down back. We don't expect him to get a ton of touches unless Willie Parker is out of the lineup due to injury. Moore remains just a handcuff Fantasy option for Parker owners. The Steelers travel to play the Bears Week 2.
News: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Tuesday that RB Mewelde Moore, who left the AFC Championship Game against Baltimore with an ankle injury, attended meetings Monday and walked around without any kind of support or protective boot.
Analysis: It sounds like Moore will play in the Super Bowl against the Cardinals, but he's not a good Fantasy option at this time. Moore is the backup to Willie Parker at this time, and Parker has carried the load with success for the Steelers during the playoffs. Look at Moore as a backup option for the Super Bowl and heading into the offseason.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore got just one carry for six yards in Sunday's AFC Championship game victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers are now headed to the Super Bowl against the Arizona Cardinals. Moore also caught one pass for nine yards.
Analysis: Moore did an excellent job this season as No. 2 RB behind Willie Parker. Moore played well each time Parker sat due to injury, making him a great handcuff in Fantasy leagues. You wouldn't use him except as a last resort in the Fantasy playoffs, though, and you wouldn't draft him until late in Fantasy leagues next year.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore contributed 25 total yards of offense Sunday in a Divisional Playoff game against the Chargers. He ran the ball three times for 13 yards and caught two passes for 12 yards.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore rushed four times for 23 yards in Week 17's win over the Browns. Moore also caught one pass for 10 yards.
Analysis: Moore did an excellent job this season as No. 2 RB behind Willie Parker. Moore played extremely well each time Parker was forced to miss a week due to injury and is a great handcuff, still owned in 82 percent of Fantasy leagues. He's likely not useful for the Fantasy playoffs and will be just a handcuff behind Parker next season. Still, we've seen that Parker is injury prone and Moore would be a nice secondary option.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore gained 28 yards rushing in Week 16 at Tennessee. He also caught two passes for 20 yards.
Analysis: Moore actually out-gained starter Willie Parker in terms of overall yardage as the Titans' run defense lived up to its billing. Moore may actually be of some added value in Week 17 against Cleveland if the team chooses to rest its starters for the playoffs. That could happen with the Steelers locked into the No. 2 seed in the AFC.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore rushed the ball seven times for 16 yards during a Week 15 win against the Ravens. His longest carry went five yards and Moore didn't get any receptions. Moore has just 12 carries for 38 yards in his last two games.
Analysis: Since Willie Parker has returned from his knee injury and has looked at 100 percent in recent weeks, Moore has seen a reduction on offense. He is still getting into the mix, but just not as often. Moore is at best a 'flex' Fantasy option heading into Week 16 against a tough Titans defense.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore carried the ball five times for 22 yards during a Week 14 win against the Cowboys. His longest carry went eight yards. Moore also had four catches for 36 yards.
Analysis: Moore has been a solid option this season for the Steelers because of all the injuries they have sustained in the backfield. Willie Parker is in the lineup despite being nicked up, but the Steelers have said Moore will remain part of the game plan. Still, he remains a low-end Fantasy RB heading into Week 15 against the Ravens. Moore had 13 rushing yards and 37 receiving yards in his first game against Baltimore.
News: Even though Willie Parker continues to get closer to 100 percent, the Steelers might still rely on two running backs. Parker has missed five games this season, been limited in others and is nursing a left knee injury. He was effective when he played in Week 13 at New England, but also sat out long stretches of time as the team went with Mewelde Moore at running back. Parker finished with 16 carries for 87 yards and Moore rushed 12 times for 67 yards. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Parker "continues to get better" but that he might not be able to practice Wednesday. Parker is expected to play Sunday when the Steelers host the Dallas Cowboys. But even if he does, Moore likely will get carries outside of his former third-down-only role. "No doubt it was a successful venture for us last week," Tomlin said of featuring two backs. "Mewelde is a good player, and he's proved that he's capable of helping us win. We all know what Willie's capable of doing. I'm sure we'll continue to see both of those guys in some form or fashion. The minute details of rotating them just hasn't been worked out yet for this week."
Analysis: With this news, Fantasy owners can't count on Parker as anything more than a middle-end No. 2 Fantasy RB and Moore as a top-end No. 3 option. Both also face the tough task of taking on the Cowboys in Week 14, a run defense ranked 10th in the NFL that has given up eight rushing TDs and two 100-yard efforts all season. Expect modest numbers from both running backs in Week 14, and consider other options before finalizing your lineup.
News: Pittsburgh RB Mewelde Moore spent most of Week 13's win over the Patriots leading the Steelers in rushing yards. Starter Willie Parker, however, found a rhythm later in the and ultimately took the rushing lead -- and the starting job -- for good again. Moore finished with 12 carries for 67 yards and caught two passes for nine more. Moore also lost a fumble in the game.
Analysis: We think Moore will be able to make a dent in the receiving game more so than the running game if he sees enough playing time in Week 14 against the Cowboys. As long as Parker is healthy in Week 14, Moore will have limited Fantasy appeal.
News: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that RB Willie Parker will be questionable for Week 13 at New England as he still has knee inflammation stemming from playing in Week 12 at Cincinnati. Parker is also battling a shoulder injury. Mewelde Moore should see a good amount of reps whether Parker plays or not in Week 13.
Analysis: We think Moore will be able to make a dent in the receiving game more so than the running game if he sees enough playing time in Week 13. We'll keep our eyes on the situation with the Steelers running backs this week and give you a better outlook by Friday. Moore would be a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB if Parker were to miss the game or be limited.
News: Steelers RB Willie Parker, starting his second straight game after missing five of the previous six with a sprained knee, had a recurrence of the injury Week 12 against the Bengals. So once again, Mewelde Moore took over, and once again, he dominated, gaining 56 yards on 15 carries and 41 on four receptions. Parker had 37 yards on 14 carries before leaving.
Analysis: Moore doesn't just fill in admirably for Parker whenever he misses time; he outperforms him. This knee injury doesn't seem any closer to going away for the Pittsburgh starter, meaning Moore should once again become a hot commodity off the waiver wire. He was a must-start during those games Parker missed, after all. Keep a close eye on this situation, but either Parker or Moore would function as a No. 2 Fantasy RB in Week 13 at New England.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore rushed just once in Week 11 against San Diego. He was stopped for a 1-yard loss down by the goal line on a fourth-and-goal try. He caught five passes out of the backfield for 33 yards.
Analysis: Moore had been starting in place of injured back Willie Parker, but his return for this game marked the end of Moore's Fantasy value for the most part. This is more or less what Fantasy owners should expect from Moore while Parker is healthy. He should be reserved in all leagues and should only be considered as a handcuff for Parker owners.
News: Steelers running back Willie Parker will return to practice Wednesday, and coach Mike Tomlin is optimistic Parker will play Sunday against the Chargers. Parker has played only once since spraining his knee Sept. 21 in Philadelphia, running for 70 yards in a Monday night win over the Redskins on Nov. 3 in which he dislocated his shoulder. "The shoulder popped out briefly during the course of the Redskins game and it popped back into place," Tomlin said, denying reports that Parker had a torn labrum. "Adrenaline or what have you didn't allow him to recognize it during the course of game. He came in (last) Tuesday, took a look at it and of course it was very painful."
Analysis: Parker's status must be watched closely this week, but we're optimistic at this point that he will play against a Chargers team coming across the country. That's going to spell trouble for Fantasy owners who had been leaning on Mewelde Moore, who started in place of Parker and did very well. Expect the Steelers to give Moore some reps, but not nearly as many as he had without Parker. Moore is no better than a low-end starting option as he'll be lucky to top 12 touches with Parker healthy.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore, who was starting in place of the injured Willie Parker (shoulder), had a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs during a Week 10 loss to the Colts. Moore had trouble breaking loose all game against Indianapolis as he just posted 57 rushing yards on 24 carries. His longest gain went nine yards. However, he broke 100 total yards with six catches for 48 yards.
Analysis: Moore has started four games this season for the injured Parker and has done exceptionally well each time out. The fact Parker might have a serious shoulder injury means Moore could start again Week 11 against the Chargers so Pittsburgh can rest their All-Pro back. If Moore is starting Week 11, then consider him a No. 2 Fantasy RB.
News: Pittsburgh RB Willie Parker (shoulder) did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Week 10 vs. Indianapolis. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting he will miss Sunday's game. Parker rushed for 71 yards on 21 carries against Washington Week 9. He also scored a touchdown. It was his first game back after missing four straight with a knee injury. Parker apparently hurt himself in the third quarter Monday, but didn't feel the resulting pain until the next day. Mewelde Moore is expected to start in his place.
Analysis: Parker was thought to be held out of practice as just a precaution since it didn't appear the injury was serious. Well, it looks as though Parker will miss a fifth game Week 10. Consider him a No. 1 Fantasy option when healthy, but it's best to look at healthier alternatives Week 10. Moore is a nice option off the bench against the Colts' porous rush defense.
News: Pittsburgh RB Willie Parker is apparently out for Week 10 against the Colts with a shoulder injury, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He is expected to miss only one game and will be replaced by Mewelde Moore, who averaged 101 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns in three previous starts. Moore had three big catches for 45 yards against the Redskins on Monday night in Week 9.
Analysis: The Colts don't have a very good rush defense and with Big Ben hurting for the Steelers you can expect them to run the ball regardless of who it is in the backfield. With Parker out, Moore becomes someone who is a viable start in Fantasy in all formats in Week 10.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore, who averaged 101 yards rushing in three starts with starter Willie Parker sidelined by a sprained knee, got only four carries in Parker's return Week 9 at Washington. He netted minus-4 yards. He did, however, catch three passes for 45 yards.
Analysis: Expect Moore to factor more in the passing game than the running game going forward, serving mostly as a third-down back. He remains a nice handcuff to Parker because he clearly knows what to do with carries when he gets them, but he doesn't look like a serviceable Fantasy starter right now. The Steelers host the Colts in Week 10.
News: Steelers running back Willie Parker went through a third consecutive day of practice Friday and appears ready to return from a four-week layoff with a knee injury on Monday night in Washington. His return means Mewelde Moore will likely return to a backup role.
Analysis: Moore has been great in Parker's absence. He has rushed the ball 65 times this season for 322 yards and three touchdowns. He is averaging 5.0 yards per carry and even has one receiving touchdown. Moore could still be involved in the game plan Week 9 as Pittsburgh might want to ease Parker back into action, but Moore still remains more of a No. 3 Fantasy RB or 'flex' option.
News: Considering Steelers RB Willie Parker (knee) practiced in full Wednesday, RB Mewelde Moore, the team's starter since Week 6, will likely have to go back to a reserve role Week 9 at Washington. "We're going to take it day by day but I'm really feeling a lot better," Parker said. "I feel better out there running the plays. Hopefully, I'll be ready by Monday."
Analysis: Moore has done an admirable job subbing for Parker, so he might still play a decent role on offense even if Parker returns. Still, he looks like a prime candidate to reserve in Fantasy this upcoming week. Keep a close eye on Parker's status.
News: During his press conference Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that running back Willie Parker, out for the last four games with a knee injury, worked out Tuesday and hopes to play at Washington in Week 9. Mewelde Moore has started and done well in Parker's place over much of the last four games.
Analysis: Figure Parker is questionable for Week 9, and it might come down to the wire on whether or not he dresses for the game on Monday. With the job Mewelde Moore has done subbing for him, it wouldn't surprise us to see the Steelers roll with him and keep Parker on the bench or see some kind of a split between the two. We'll keep you posted on the news.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore had 19 carries for 84 yards in Week 8 against the N.Y. Giants, including a 32-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He also caught two passes for 10 yards while filling in once again for injured starter Willie Parker.
Analysis: Moore got off to a quick start, but then found it hard to find a rhythm against a tough Giants run defense. With Willie Parker sidelined, he's rushed for three touchdowns and over 300 yards in the last three games. Parker may or may not return in Week 9 at Washington and Moore's Fantasy value really will depend on the progress of Fast Willie. Monitor it over the course of the week.
News: The sprained knee that Willie Parker expected to keep him out of action for two weeks will now linger into its fourth week as the Steelers said on their web site that their star rusher is listed as doubtful for Week 8 vs. the Giants. Mewelde Moore will continue to play in his place. "He showed some good things early in the week," said head coach Mike Tomlin. "His participation got more limited as we went on in the week. That's where we are with this thing. We'll continue to take it day to day. Hopefully he will get back to us soon. I know he is champing at the bit and so are we."
Analysis: With the job Mewelde Moore has done subbing for him, it doesn't surprise us to see the Steelers roll with him and keep Parker on the bench. All that said, the Giants rank fifth against the run and have allowed just two rush TDs all season. It would be hard to expect a strong outing from any Steelers running back in this game, though Moore certainly could deliver some added yardage via the passing game. Parker should remain benched in all leagues while Moore is worth using as a top-end No. 3 Fantasy RB (he'd be higher if the matchup were better).
News: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin wouldn't say that RB Willie Parker, who has missed three games with a sprained knee, would play vs. the Giants in Week 8, but did note that if he was healthy enough, he would practice this week on some sort of basis. If Parker can't go, Mewelde Moore would make his third straight start.
Analysis: Figure Parker is questionable for Week 8, and it might come down to the wire on whether or not he plays. With the job Moore has done subbing for him, it wouldn't surprise us to see the Steelers roll with him and keep Parker on the bench. All that said, the Giants rank fifth against the run and have allowed just two rush TDs all season. It would be hard to expect a strong outing from any Steelers running back in this game. We'll keep you posted on the news.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore filled in for injured starter Willie Parker in Week 7 at Cincinnati and had a big game. He rushed 20 times for 120 yards, including two touchdowns on the ground. He also added another touchdown through the air. He caught five passes for 14 yards, including a 2-yard score in the first quarter.
Analysis: Moore was used much in the same way Parker would have been and got the added benefit of a big lead in the second half, allowing him to get plenty of touches against a warn out defenses to run out the clock. Parker is expected to return in Week 8 against the Giants and Moore will return to a limited backup role as a result. Keep Moore on your roster as a handcuff for Williams, but he won't be this productive while reduced to a backup role.
News: Steelers RB Willie Parker (knee) was inactive for Week 7 at Cincinnati, as expected. Mewelde Moore got the start in his place.
Analysis: If you can still add Moore (he's only owned in 53 percent of leagues) do so now since the Bengals run defense is not good. Consider Moore a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB against Cincinnati this week.
News: Pro Bowl RB Willie Parker didn't practice for a third consecutive day Friday and won't play in the Pittsburgh Steelers' division game in Cincinnati on Sunday. Parker has missed the past two games with a sprained left knee. He returned to practice Monday and was expected to play against the Bengals, only to aggravate the injury while working out on his own Tuesday, according to coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin, who was hurt Sept. 21 in Philadelphia, will be replaced by third-down back Mewelde Moore. Moore, making his first start since 2005, ran for 99 yards against Jacksonville on Oct. 5.
Analysis: If you can add Moore (he's only owned in 53 percent of leagues) do so now since the Bengals run defense is not good. Consider Moore a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB against Cincinnati this week.
News: Steelers RB Willie Parker didn't practice again Thursday because of a sprained left knee and might not play Sunday in Cincinnati. Parker, coming off three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, injured his medial collateral ligament Sept. 21 in Philadelphia. He ran for more than 100 yards in each of the Steelers' first two games. Parker was back in practice Monday and looked ready to return, only to aggravate the injury while working out on his own Tuesday, according to coach Mike Tomlin. "We're still hopeful toward Sunday," Tomlin said Thursday. "But maybe not as hopeful as we were earlier in the week." Mewelde Moore, normally the third-down back, would start Sunday if Parker can't play. Moore ran for 99 yards against Jacksonville on Oct. 5, his first NFL start since he played for Minnesota in 2005.
Analysis: It will likely come down to a game-time decision if Moore will start or not against the Bengals. Keep an eye on Parker's status for Friday's practice because that could determine if Moore will start or not Sunday.
News: Steelers RB Willie Parker, who hasn't played since Week 3 because of a sprained knee, aggravated the injury in practice Monday, putting his status for Week 7 at Cincinnati in doubt. If Parker can't go, Mewelde Moore, who filled in admirably for Parker by rushing for 99 yards in Week 5, would likely start.
Analysis: Moore is owned in only 36 percent of leagues, and considering his solid performance in Week 5, you want him on your roster if he ends up starting. Put in a claim for him now. The Steelers also have a good matchup at Cincinnati in Week 7, which would potentially make Moore a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB, so keep a close eye on this situation.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore, starting for the first time since 2005 with Willie Parker sidelined by a sprained knee and Rashard Mendenhall out for the season, carried the ball 17 times for 99 yards Week 5 at Jacksonville. He also caught three passes for 17 yards.
Analysis: The Steelers have a bye in Week 6, so Parker might return Week 7 at Cincinnati. If he doesn't, though, Moore has proven he can carry the load and would deserve to start as a No. 3 Fantasy RB. If nothing else, Moore at least deserves a roster spot as a handcuff to Parker.
News: No Willie Parker, no Rashard Mendenhall - and, even if they were healthy, no fullback to block for them. Wide receiver Hines Ward knows what everybody suspects the beaten-up Pittsburgh Steelers will do Sunday night in Jacksonville without their top two running backs. Namely, ask Ben Roethlisberger to beat the Jaguars with his arm. After all, what better situation for a $102 million quarterback to prove his value? Ward doesn't think it will happen, and not only because Roethlisberger missed practice for the second day in a row Thursday because a sore right shoulder. The Steelers, Ward said, will find a way to run the ball, even though third-down back Mewelde Moore becomes the starter by default this week. And he won't be lined up only for blocking purposes, despite the likely absence of fullback Carey Davis (sprained ankle). "We're not going to abandon ship and say we're going to give up on the run because of some injuries," Ward said. "We're not going to do it. We never have."
Analysis: Moore has started 11 games in his career, rushing for 100 yards or more in four -- two with the Vikings in 2004 and two more in 2006. Moore carried the ball eight times for 13 yards and caught three passes for 37 during a Week 4 win against the Ravens. He gets another tough task in Jacksonville Week 5 and is nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy RB.
News: Down to one healthy running back, the Pittsburgh Steelers brought back two players from last season by re-signing Najeh Davenport and promoting Gary Russell from the practice squad on Wednesday. The Steelers, third in the NFL in rushing last season, lost Pro Bowl running back Willie Parker to a sprained knee last week and first-round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall to a season-ending fractured shoulder Monday night against Baltimore. The earliest that Parker will play again is Oct. 19 at Cincinnati. Mewelde Moore, normally the Steelers' third-down back, is expected to start Sunday night in Jacksonville, despite being limited to one carry this season before the 23-20 overtime win over Baltimore.
News: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced Saturday that RB Willie Parker will be out for a second straight game when Pittsburgh visits Jacksonville in Week 5. He also said FB Carey Davis, who sprained his ankle in Week 4, was feeling better Tuesday.
Analysis: OK, here's the deal in Pittsburgh. Mewelde Moore is the starting RB for the Steelers as of Tuesday afternoon, but Tomlin said that the team will probably sign a couple of running backs, one of which could start as soon as Week 5 against the Jaguars. Shaun Alexander could be a possibility, but who knows. You could do worse than picking up Moore in deeper leagues as he is the favorite to get the bulk of the carries on Sunday, but things could change on a daily basis, so keep tabs on the situation and adjust accordingly.
News: With RB Willie Parker already out with a sprained knee, Rashard Mendenhall broke his shoulder and Carey Davis sprained his ankle Week 4, forcing Mewelde Moore to become the primary back against the Ravens. He carried the ball eight times for 13 yards and caught three passes for 37.
Analysis: Moore entered the game with only one touch on offense. Mendenhall is out for the season, so if Parker isn't ready to return Week 5 at Jacksonville, Moore might find himself playing a critical role on offense again. He didn't look particularly impressive, though, and he still has to contend with Davis, so don't invest highly in him this waiver period.
News: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday during a news conference that RB Willie Parker will not play Monday night against Baltimore. Parker apparently hurt his knee late in the game Sunday at Philadelphia and is unable to play against the Ravens. Rashard Mendenhall will start in Parker's place, but Carey Davis and Mewelde Moore will also factor into the gameplan.
Analysis: Davis will likely get some extended carries, with Moore continuing his role on third down. Neither are worth adding at this point, especially with the Ravens solid in run defense. For the season, Baltimore is allowing only 71.5 rushing yards per game and no rushing touchdowns.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore had one carry for six yards during a Week 3 loss to the Eagles. It was his first carry of the 2008 season.
Analysis: Moore is in his first year with the Steelers after spending the last four with Minnesota. He is currently buried on the depth chart and is not expected to play a big-time role anytime soon. Leave him off Fantasy rosters. The Steelers play the Ravens Week 4.
News: Steelers RB Mewelde Moore, WR Dallas Baker and WR Nate Washington were all active and dressed for Week 1 vs. Houston but did not record an offensive stat.
Analysis: None of these players are expected to produce significant stats on a regular basis to begin with. Keep these players off of Fantasy rosters until further notice.
News: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Steelers RB Willie Parker's pursuit of the rushing title that eluded him in 2007 begins Sunday, when the Steelers host the Houston Texans in the regular-season opener. Leading the NFL in rushing, however, won't be easy for Parker. While still the No. 1 option in a ground game that ranked third in the NFL in 2007, Parker will almost certainly have a reduced role this season. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday at his weekly news conference that Mewelde Moore will serve as the team's third-down back. He strongly hinted that rookie Rashard Mendenhall will be the Steelers' short-yardage back if the fumbling problems that plagued the first-round pick during the preseason do not carry over to the regular season. Mendenhall, assuming he takes care of what Tomlin calls "ball security" issues, should also take some carries from Parker in the base offense. Parker averaged 329 carries the past two seasons, and the Steelers want to lighten his workload.
Analysis: Moore could be a source of catches in deeper leagues, but he will play behind Parker and Mendenhall to start the year. Ignore him in most formats for now, but he could be a useful reserve later in leagues where receptions count.
News: In an interview with CBSSports.com, Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said he expects veteran RB Mewelde Moore to work as a third-down back with the offense. "He's a quality veteran who will probably start the season out as our third-down back," Arians said. "He's a good pass protector, good route runner, has good hands and a solid presence in the locker room."
Analysis: Moore has excellent hands but is otherwise small enough to make Willie Parker look huge. He's also expected to spend time on special teams doing kickoff returns. He has minimal Fantasy value heading into the season, so don't look at him unless you're in the deepest of PPR Fantasy leagues.
News: The Steelers signed RB Mewelde Moore to a three-year contract, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Moore visited the Steelers on Monday and passed a physical. Moore had been with the Vikings since 2004 but played sparingly last season with Adrian Peterson, who won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2007, and Chester Taylor ahead of him. Moore has had success as a third-down back and a kick returner and could fill both roles for the Steelers.
Analysis: Moore will likely backup Willie Parker and Najeh Davenport in 2008 and spend time on special teams doing kickoff returns. He has minimal Fantasy value heading into the season but that could change depending on Parker's health following a broken leg at the end of last season.
News: With Adrian Peterson coming to Minnesota and eating most of the rushing duties along with Chester Taylor, fourth-year RB Mewelde Moore had very limited playing time. In 12 games, he had 20 rushes for 113 yards (5.7 avg.), six catches for 48 yards and a failed pass attempt. Statistically speaking, it was Moore's worst NFL season. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Analysis: Moore is a terrific third-down back but not a guy who can carry the ball 25 times per game. Look for him to end up in a new city next season in that role, and thusly as a late-round flier in the deepest of Fantasy Football drafts.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore, TE Jeff Dugan and QB Brooks Bollinger all dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 16 vs. Washington.
Analysis: Most of these players don't play a vital role in the team's offensive scheme and hardly rack up enough stats to warrant heavy use in Fantasy leagues. Ignore them heading into Week 17 against the Broncos.
News: Vikings TE Jimmy Kleinsasser, RB Mewelde Moore, TE Jeff Dugan and QB Brooks Bollinger all dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 14 against the 49ers.
Analysis: Most of these players don't play a vital role in the team's offensive scheme and hardly rack up enough stats to warrant heavy use in Fantasy leagues. Ignore them heading into Week 15 against the Bears.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore had three carries for 4 yards Sunday at Detroit.
Analysis: Moore is the No. 3 RB for the Vikings and should not be started in Week 14 at San Francisco unless something happens to Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore rushed three times for 12 yards in Week 12 at the N.Y. Giants.
Analysis: Moore is third on the depth chart at running back when Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor are both healthy and Peterson is expected to have a chance of playing in Week 13 vs. Detroit. Consider Moore unworthy of a Fantasy roster spot at this time.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore had nine rush yards vs. Oakland in Week 11.
Analysis: Moore does not produce enough stats on a regular basis to warrant use in Fantasy play. Keep him off rosters when the Vikings play at the Giants in Week 12.
News: RB Mewelde Moore, TE Jimmy Kleinsasser, FB/TE Jeff Dugan and WR Aundrae Allison all played for the Vikings in their 35-17 win over the Chargers in Week 9, but did not tally an offensive stat.
Analysis: Moore has very minimal value as a third-string RB with the Vikings, while the rest of these players have zero value at this time. The Vikings play at Green Bay in Week 10.
News: Vikings WR Troy Williamson, RB Mewelde Moore, FB Naufahu Tahi, TE Jim Kleinsasser and FB Jeff Dugan were all active and dressed but didn't record any offensive stats in Week 8 vs. Philadelphia.
Analysis: None of these players, including Williamson, are reliable Fantasy starters. Carry Williamson and Moore as backups if you wish, but starting them isn't a good idea. The Vikings host the Chargers in Week 9.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore was active Sunday against Dallas but did not get a carry or catch a pass.
Analysis: Moore has minimal Fantasy value and should not be used Week 8 against the Eagles.
News: The Vikings listed WR Bobby Wade, DB Ronyell Whitaker, RB Mewelde Moore, RB Garrett Mills, Aundrae Allison and DL Jayme Mitchell as inactive for Week 6 at Chicago. All were coach's decisions.
Analysis: Of these players, only Moore has some low-end Fantasy appeal at this time. Make sure none of these players are anywhere near your active Fantasy lineups until further notice.
News: Earlier Tuesday, the Tampa Tribune reported that there were early talks between the Vikings and Buccaneers that would send RB Chester Taylor and OT Bryant McKinnie to Tampa Bay in exchange for either a player or two and/or a package of draft picks. But the St. Paul Pioneer Press says that the Bucs are after Mewelde Moore but won't pay the Vikings' asking price of a first-day pick. Moore is scheduled to be a free agent after the season and is expected to test the marketplace. Even earlier Tuesday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Vikings coach Brad Childress is planning on splitting the reps between Taylor and rookie Adrian Peterson, but with the Bucs hobbling at running back and left tackle, and in first place in the NFC South, those plans might change.
Analysis: In Tampa Bay, Moore would be a No. 3 Fantasy RB while Taylor would be a prominent member of the offense and a decent No. 2 Fantasy RB. The Vikings are on bye in Week 5 but play at Chicago at Week 6 and could have a hard time running the ball in that game. If Taylor is still playing there, use him as a third rusher; Moore shouldn't start in any Fantasy league.
News: Notable inactives for the Packers-Vikings Week 4 matchup include: Packers DB Frank Walker, LB Desmond Bishop, DL Justin Harrell, DL Daniel Muir, DL Mike Montgomery and RB Brandon Jackson. For the Vikings, QB Tarvaris Jackson (No. 3/emergency QB), WR Aundrae Allison, DL Fred Evans, DB Ronyell Whitaker, RB Mewelde Moore, FB Garrett Mills and DL Erasmus James are inactive.
Analysis: DeShawn Wynn will start at running back for the Packers, but Vernand Morency is expected to play as well. Neither one should put a dent in that Vikings run defense, though. Kelly Holcomb will start at QB for the Vikings, and Moore's inactivity is based on Chester Taylor's return to the Vikings' lineup -- he will start and take some of Adrian Peterson's reps. The rest of the players listed aren't reliable Fantasy players.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore rushed four times for 21 yards during a Week 3 loss to the Chiefs. His longest gain went for 11 yards. He also had two receptions for 10 yards. Moore connected on a 8-yard touchdown pass with Visanthe Shiancoe in the first quarter, but the referees ruled it was an incomplete pass and it was upheld after the review.
Analysis: Moore is mostly used as a third-down or pass-catching back by the Vikings. He will get a few carries a game, but not enough to make a huge impact in Fantasy leagues. It is best he continued to be used as a low-end Fantasy reserve. The Vikings host the Packers in Week 4.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore gained a surprising 86 yards on 10 touches Week 2 at the Lions. He saw so much time because, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Vikings replaced rookie RB Adrian Peterson for him on several third-and-short situations. When asked the reason for the replacement, Vikings head coach Brad Childress replied: "Well, in a couple of instances, a couple of protection issues, a couple of them where Mewelde would take a better look at."
Analysis: The Vikings passed on three of four third-and-short situations in the first half Sunday, and Moore ran the ball on the other. Sounds like the Vikings don't yet trust a rookie back like Peterson to protect their, ahem, "prized" quarterback Tarvaris Jackson in obvious passing situations. Don't read too much into this. When No. 1 RB Chester Taylor returns from a bruised hip, Moore will become a forgotten man, especially since the Vikings figure to use Peterson more and more once he gets more experience blocking. Leave Moore on the waiver wire for Week 3 at the Chiefs.
News: With Vikings starting RB Chester Taylor inactive for Week 2 at the Lions, No. 3 RB Mewelde Moore, himself an inactive last week, played a crucial role in the Minnesota offense, spelling Adrian Peterson to the tune of 50 yards on six carries, including a 17-yard long, and 36 yards on four receptions.
Analysis: The Vikings apparently didn't want Peterson to carry the full load in his first NFL start. Moore doesn't have much value in Fantasy leagues as the Vikings' No. 3 RB, especially when Taylor returns. Deeper leagues might want to add him as insurance for Peterson, but most leagues can ignore him for Week 3 at the Chiefs.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore, listed as No. 3 on the depth chart behind Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson, did not play Week 1 against the Falcons. The Vikings listed him as a Week 1 inactive.
Analysis: The Vikings had to deactivate someone. Don't worry too much about this move if you play in a deep enough league to own Moore. He's a good receiver out of the backfield, but probably won't play much except on special teams even when active.
News: With the Vikings boasting RBs Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor on the depth chart ahead of Mewelde Moore, the speedster from Tulane isn't worried or even asking about what he'll be doing in 2007 with the Vikings. "I don't even ask those type of questions," he told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "Some people may sit there and have their little thing about this, that and the other, but that isn't me. We all compete, we all put our pants on the same way, we all go out here and play the game hard and give it all we've got."
Analysis: Moore will not only be a backup and work on special teams but also be considered for third-down duty since he's a good receiver out of the backfield. View him as a low-end reserve RB, especially in leagues that reward receptions. You can probably get away with not drafting him and picking him up off the waiver wire.
News: Vikings reserve RB Mewelde Moore ended 2006 with 131 rush yards on 24 carries, 46 receptions for 468 yards (second-best on the team) and a touchdown, and one pass completed for 15 yards and a touchdown. Moore was used mostly as a third-down back.
Analysis: Moore also scored on a punt return. Moore will wind up being a third-down back in the NFL thanks to his great pass-catching ability and quickness. He will be at best a late-round flier in deeper Fantasy leagues next season.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore had one carry 10 yards in a Week 17 loss to the Rams. He also had three catches for 57 yards -- a team-high.
Analysis: Moore is the Vikings pass catching running back and has very little use in Fantasy play. He could be someone drafted as a 'flex' player next season.
News: Mewelde Moore did not have a carry and he reeled in two receptions for 10 yards in Week 16 at Green Bay.
Analysis: Moore does not see enough touches to warrant Fantasy consideration against the Rams in Week 17.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore had five catches for 53 yards and a touchdown against the Jets.
Analysis: Moore is the third-down back for the Vikings, so his Fantasy value is minimal.
News: Notable Vikings players from Week 14 at Detroit include: RB Mewelde Moore (11 rush yards, 18 receiving yards), WR Bethel Johnson (minus-2 rush yards), WR Marcus Robinson (45 receiving yards), WR Travis Taylor (30-yard catch), WR Troy Williamson (23 receiving yards), WR Billy McMullen (13-yard catch), TE Jeff Dugan (9-yard catch) and TE Jermaine Wiggins (6-yard catch).
Analysis: Of these players, Moore has value as a reserve RB in deeper leagues, and Robinson is viable as a No. 4 WR option. Wiggins could also be used as a low-end Fantasy TE. Everyone else shouldn't be on Fantasy rosters. The Vikings play vs. the N.Y. Jets in Week 15.
News: The Vikings made RB Chester Taylor (ribs) inactive for Week 14 at Detroit, making Ciatrick Fason the starting running back for Minnesota. Mewelde Moore is expected to see lots of playing time as well.
Analysis: Chester Taylor should be reserved in all leagues. Fason is worth using as a top-end No. 3 Fantasy RB for this game since Detroit's run defense is not very good, and Moore is worth starting as a No. 3 RB in leagues that reward receptions since he will get some passes out of the backfield.
News: The Minnesota Star-Tribune reports that Vikings RB Chester Taylor (ribs) did limited non-contact drills on Friday (not team drills) and remains doubtful to play Week 14 at Detroit. Vikings coach Brad Childress claims he will leave the decision to play on Sunday to Taylor since only Taylor knows whether or not he's able to deal with the physical aspects of running the football. "I'm the only person that knows how I feel," he told the paper. "So that's basically it. I've got the last say on it basically. ... I'm just going to make the decision that's best for me and if I can go I can go, if I can't I can't."
Analysis: Taylor's ribs got hurt in the third quarter against Chicago last week, and if he does play he'll have to wear some protective padding. Continue to monitor Taylor's status through Sunday. If he plays, he's a must-start in all Fantasy leagues. If he doesn't, then Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore are expected to split his reps, and they would be considered No. 3 Fantasy RBs.
News: Vikings RB Chester Taylor (ribs) has been listed as doubtful for Week 14 at Detroit. The Vikings used Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore in his place last week when Taylor left the game at Chicago with hurt ribs. A CT scan on Taylor showed no breaks on Monday.
Analysis: Fason is a pretty good straight-line runner who can handle a 20-carry load, while Moore is more of a third-down back with really good hands. This combination should suffice for the Vikings at Detroit, but not so much for Fantasy owners. Consider Fason a good No. 3 Fantasy RB and Moore a low-end No. 3 RB (with added value in leagues that count receptions). Obviously, Taylor could be upgraded during the week, so monitor this situation intently if you own Taylor and are playing in Week 14.
News: Numerous sources, including the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, report that Vikings RB Chester Taylor had a CT scan of his ribs on Monday. Nothing was broken, but he is sore. If he does play at Detroit in Week 14, he's expected to wear protective padding on his ribs and have his touches monitored. If he doesn't play, Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore would split his carries.
Analysis: Monitor Taylor's status throughout the week if you own him in Fantasy play. If he practices as late as Friday, we'd expect him to play on Sunday. Regardless, pick up Fason as he'd be a good enough replacement for Taylor in the event he doesn't play. The matchup against the Lions is a very appealing one.
News: Vikings RB Chester Taylor's status is uncertain after bruised ribs forced him from Sunday's loss to Chicago. Taylor suffered the injury in the second quarter and left the game for good late in the third. Coach Brad Childress told the Star Tribune "nothing's broken," but Taylor gave way to Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore in the fourth quarter. "I tried to fight through it," Taylor said, "but it was too much to bear." If the injury is deemed serious, Fason and Moore likely would handle the rushing responsibilities in Week 14 at Detroit. Fason, who has been inactive for eight of the Vikings' 12 games this season, rushed for a career-high 75 yards but also was tackled in the end zone for a safety in the fourth quarter.
Analysis: Continue to monitor Taylor's status prior to Week 14 against the Lions. If he's able to play, expect a solid outing against the Lions. If Taylor is unable to go, consider Fason a low-end No. 2 RB, and Moore a No. 3 option.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore had three carries for 13 yards and five catches for 51 yards against Chicago.
Analysis: Moore has little Fantasy value at this time.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore had one carry for 14 yards and five catches for 32 yards against Miami.
Analysis: Moore has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore caught five passes for 57 yards in Week 10 vs. Green Bay. He also rushed three times for 15 yards.
Analysis: As a backup RB, Moore's value is limited. He's not a recommended option for Week 11 at Miami.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore rushed for minus-1 yard on one carry in a 9-3 loss to the 49ers in Week 9. Moore also had one reception for four yards.
Analysis: Moore is not a recommended Fantasy option because he is Chester Taylor's backup. Keep him reserved for Week 10 against the Packers.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore had four catches for 91 yards and two carries for 9 yards against New England. He also returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown.
Analysis: Despite the good game, Moore is not a recommended starter because he is Chester Taylor's backup. Keep him reserved for Week 9 against San Francisco.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore threw a 15-yard TD pass to TE Jermaine Wiggins against the Seahawks. Moore also added one catch for 5 yards.
Analysis: Moore's TD was a nice surprise but don't expect it to happen much this season. And with Chester Taylor doing the heavy lifting at RB, keep Moore reserved in all leagues.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore had five catches for 38 yards against Detroit.
Analysis: Moore should not be started at this time and has minimal Fantasy value unless starter Chester Taylor gets hurt.
News: Viking backup RBs Mewelde Moore and Travis Taylor combined to rush for 22 yards on three carries in Week 4 at Buffalo.
Analysis: Unless Chester Taylor is unable to play due to injury, neither player is a recommended start for Week 5 vs. Detroit.
News: Vikings RB Chester Taylor (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 4 at Buffalo. Practice was not completed at the publishing time of the injury report, so it is unknown if Taylor practiced on Thursday. If Taylor is not 100 percent or cannot play, it certainly would mean RB Mewelde Moore will get more touches against the Bills.
Analysis: Don't go inserting Moore into the starting lineup just yet. The extent of Taylor's injury has not been made public. Consider Moore nothing more than a reserve at this point until further news regarding Taylor's status is released.
News: Vikings speedster Mewelde Moore had three carries for 23 yards and three catches for 18 yards vs. Chicago in Week 3. Moore also returned a pair of punts.
Analysis: Moore is playing a little more but still isn't worth owning as anything more than insurance for Chester Taylor, and even then he may not have that gig wrapped up. Keep him reserved when he plays at Buffalo in Week 4.
News: Vikings RB Mewelde Moore ran the ball once for 11 yards and caught three passes for 13 yards vs. Carolina in Week 2 play. He also worked on special teams.
Analysis: Moore doesn't play enough to warrant use in Fantasy play, but he could see regular time if Chester Taylor gets hurt. He shouldn't be owned in leagues.
News: Vikins RB Mewelde Moore is returning punts and also gets on the field in certain third-down situations for Minnesota.
Analysis: Vikings starting RB Chester Taylor had 31 carries and 34 touches overall in Week 1, so he is clearly the man in Minnesota. Although, coach Brad Childress is committed to the running game, it looks as though he is a one-back guy. Moore did nothing to challenge for more playing time in Week 1, so avoid him in Week 2 against the Panthers.
News: Mewelde Moore (knee) was able to play in Week 1 at Washington. He carried twice for minus-1 yard in the road win.
Analysis: Well, that is not too good. RB Chester Taylor had 31 carries and 34 touches overall, so he is clearly the No. 1 back in Minnesota. Moore did nothing to challenge for more playing time, so avoid him in Week 2 against the Panthers.
News: Minnesota RB Mewelde Moore (knee) has been upgraded to probable for Week 1 at Washington.
Analysis: Moore seems to fit the model of what coach Brad Childress wants at running back, but the signing of Chester Taylor and promotion of Ciatrick Fason crushed that value -- along with him being a special-teams contributor. Owning him could be risky since he's not expected to contribute much. Do not use him Week 1 at Washington.
News: For the second straight day, Vikings RB/KR Mewelde Moore (knee) practiced. He is listed as questionable on the injury report, but he is expected to play.
News: Vikings running back Mewelde Moore returned to the field on Monday after missing three weeks and two preseason games because of a knee injury. Moore had fallen behind Ciatrick Fason at running back even before he got hurt.
Analysis: Moore seems to fit the model of what coach Brad Childress wants at running back, but the signing of Chester Taylor and promotion of Ciatrick Fason crushed that value. Owning him could be risky since he's not expected to contribute much. Do not use him Week 1 at Washington.
News: Mewelde Moore (knee) missed Thursday’s preseason game at Dallas.
Analysis: Moore is battling Ciatrick Fason for the team's primary backup job to Chester Taylor, but don't expect a lot from a Fantasy perspective. In fact, since he has been seeing time on special teams, it is unlikely he'll see more than a handful of carries per game as long as Taylor remains healthy.
News: The St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports Moore (knee) was unable to practice on Sunday, but might return to the field for the team's preseason finale at Dallas.
News: Wendell Mathis rushed 10 times for 41 yards in Friday's preseason game vs. Baltimore, taking advantage of some extra snaps in a thin Minnesota backfield. Ciatrick Fason hurt his left shoulder in the first quarter and didn't return, and Mewelde Moore missed his second straight game because of a knee injury.
Analysis: Moore's injury is not considered serious. However, he recently was dropped to third on the team's depth chart behind Fason and certainly did not need an injury to set him back even further. Fason has been considered more of a short-yardage back, so don't get too carried away with moving Moore down your cheat sheets. Moore has a lot more Fantasy upside than the former University of Florida standout.
News: Running back Mewelde Moore's left knee injury could keep him sidelined for at least another week, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Brad Childress said Moore might be ready for the Aug. 31 preseason finale at Dallas. Moore, who has not practiced since suffering the injury Aug. 14, is marginal for Friday's game against Baltimore.
Analysis: Moore's injury is not considered serious. However, he recently was dropped to third on the team's depth chart behind Ciatrick Fason and certainly could not use an injury to set him back even further.
News: Mewelde Moore missed practice on Thursday due to a knee injury and he will be OUT for Saturday's preseason game at Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Moore's injury is not considered serious. However, he recently was dropped to third on the team's depth chart behind Ciatrick Fason and certainly could not use an injury to set him back even further.
News: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Ciatrick Fason has passed Mewelde Moore for No. 2 on the team's depth chart behind starter Chester Taylor. "But we continue to roll those guys," head coach Brad Childress. "We evaluate them every night."
Analysis: Fason has been considered more of a short-yardage back, so don't get too carried away with moving Moore down your cheat sheets. Moore has a lot more Fantasy upside than the former University of Florida standout.
News: Vikings head coach Brad Childress explained what role RB Mewelde Moore would have with the team, at least at this point. "Right now he's the second running back," Childress said. "He has to be able to run it between the tackles, and you know that he has skills to be a pass receiver. You can extend him and move him out of the backfield, but he's a backup right now. Right now Chester Taylor is the starter."
Analysis: Moore's weakness might be running in between the tackles since he's a little bit fragile and could get banged up running in tight quarters close to the guards and center. Look for Moore to be a nice third-down back for Minnesota, making him worthy of a late-round pick as a No. 4 or 5 Fantasy rusher and decent insurance for starter Chester Taylor.
News: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Mewelde Moore could be a bit limited in Vikings minicamp due to a wrist that isn't 100 percent.
Analysis: Moore is no longer a candidate to start with Chester Taylor now in the mix, but he's still worth a late-round selection in most drafts.
News: The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Mewelde Moore (wrist) was limited at Vikings minicamp Friday. He had offseason surgery on his wrist.
Analysis: Moore is no longer a candidate to start with Chester Taylor now in the mix, but he's still worth a late-round selection in most drafts.
News: The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the Minnesota Vikings have signed Chester Taylor to a four-year contract. New head coach Brad Childress said Taylor could touch the ball "20-30" times a game, so he's in line to start ahead of Mewelde Moore, Onterrio Smith and Ciatrick Fason.
Analysis: Moore is now slated to be a reserve for the Vikes, so his seasonal and keeper value takes a serious hit. He will be worth no more than a late-round choice as insurance for owners who land Taylor.
News: The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Mewelde Moore had a surgical procedure on his problematic wrist, which had bothered him all last season. He should be fine for the start of camps.
Analysis: Moore has a chance to start for Minnesota next season, though the team could look to add another back in the offseason. At this point he's worth a middle-round selection in drafts.
News: Mewelde Moore caught 37 passes, recorded 1,001 all-purpose yards and scored three total TDs in 16 games (eight starts) this season in Minnesota. He shared carries with Michael Bennett for most of the season.
Analysis: Bennett is now a free agent, so there's a chance Moore will be the team's featured back next season. In a best-case scenario, he will be worth a middle-round selection in 2006 drafts.
News: Mewelde Moore carried six times for 57 yards in Week 17 against the Bears and he also added six receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Moore came on in the final two games of the season and might be a decent low-end alternative on Draft Day 2006 depending on what offseason moves the Vikings plan on making.
News: Mewelde Moore carried 10 times for 49 yards in Week 16 at Baltimore and he reeled in four receptions for 42 yards.
Analysis: Moore had just three carries for minus-one yard in the past three games, so he is not worth considering in Week 17 against a strong Chicago defense.
News: Mewelde Moore caught two passes and recorded 14 all-purpose yards in Sunday's 18-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Analysis: Moore is not a recommended option for Week 16 at Baltimore.
News: The Pioneer Press reports Mewelde Moore (ankles/wrist/quad, probable) is not 100 percent. "Mewelde is not in the doghouse," head coach Mike Tice said. "He's banged up, and Michael (Bennett) is healthy, and we want the healthiest guys to take the bulk of the work." Mooore is listed as probable for Week 15 vs. Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Bennett has been named the starter for Week 15 against Pittsburgh, so Moore is no better than insurance for his veteran teammate.
News: The Pioneer Press reports Mewelde Moore (ankles/wrist) is not 100 percent. "Mewelde is not in the doghouse," head coach Mike Tice said. "He's banged up, and Michael (Bennett) is healthy, and we want the healthiest guys to take the bulk of the work."
Analysis: Bennett has been named the starter for Week 15 against Pittsburgh, so Moore is no better than insurance for his veteran teammate.
News: According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Vikings coach Mike Tice confirmed that Michael Bennett is now the team's starting running back.
Analysis: Everyone could pretty much tell that by now. Fantasy owners just wish he would have said something earlier. Moore seems to be in the coach's doghouse for some reason and we recommend avoiding him in the Fantasy playoffs.
News: Mewelde Moore caught one pass for seven yards in Sunday's 27-13 win over the St. Louis Rams. Michael Bennett started ahead of him.
Analysis: Unless Moore regains the top spot on the depth chart, he is not a recommended starter for Week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
News: The Vikings went with Michael Bennett as their starting running back vs. St. Louis in Week 14. Mewelde Moore should split reps with him.
Analysis: The Vikings have played games with their running backs before, so expect the unexpected with this duo.
News: Mewelde Moore (quadricep) returned to practice Friday. He is listed as probable for Week 14.
Analysis: Moore left practice on Thursday and did not return so this is a good sign. He has a great matchup against St. Louis and is a terrific sleeper, so owners need to keep tabs on his status. Michael Bennett would start if Moore were unavailable.
News: KFAN.co reports Mewelde Moore suffered a right quadriceps contusion in practice on Thursday and did not finish the session. He is now listed as probable for Week 14.
