(2/23/2014) The Ravens have had talks with Daryl Smith's agent about the team re-signing the free agent linebacker, reports the team's website. Smith, who turns 32 next month, had 123 tackles, five sacks and three interceptions last season.

“Daryl did a great job for us,” general manager Ozzie Newsome said. “We have engaged in some conversations with his representative.”

(12/17/2013) The Ravens DST intercepted Matthew Stafford three times in the Week 15 win at Detroit, holding the high-octane Lions to 16 points. Defensive tackle DeAngelo Tyson, linebacker Daryl Smith and safety Matt Elam picked off Stafford in the second half.

Smith has three interceptions this year, tied for the team lead, after snagging Stafford's ill-advised pass over the middle. Smith added a sack, giving him 4 1/2 this season.

Baltimore got a lift from the return of outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil, who had two quarterback hits and two tackles. The Ravens DST faces another tough matchup Week 16 vs. the Patriots.

Meanwhile, outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (neck) is probable.

(11/15/2013) Five key Ravens defensive players who were sidelined or limited Thursday returned to the field Friday.

Nose tackle Haloti Ngata (hamstring), cornerback Lardarius Webb (groin), linebacker Daryl Smith (hamstring) and defensive end Chris Canty (knee) all practiced on Friday after missing the Thursday session. Defensive end Terrell Suggs, who was limited Thursday with a neck ailment, was also practicing Friday.

Their potential availability for the Sunday game in Chicago will be clearer when the team issues its Friday injury report.


Fourth Ravens defender added to list of practice absences

(11/14/2013) The battered Ravens defense had their total of absences raised from three to four Thursday when defensive end Chris Canty (undisclosed) missed practice. Nose tackle Haloti Ngata (knee), middle linebacker Daryl Smith (hamstring) and cornerback Lardarius Webb (groin) were all red-lighted for their second straight day.

The availability of all them for the game Sunday in Chicago remains undetermined.

Smith finished with a team-high nine tackles, including one for a loss, and added a sack, one pass defensed and two quarterback hits in the loss to the Browns. He has 71 tackles on the year and is on pace for 142 in 2013.

(9/30/2013) Ravens linebacker Daryl Smith had a very good game defensively on Sunday of Week 4 during a loss at Buffalo. Smith recorded an interception and finished with 12 tackles on the game. 

Smith finished second on the team with his 12 stops, as four of them were solo tackles for the Ravens. He had one pass defended and intercepted that EJ Manuel offering. It was his second interception in as many games and second on the year. 

The 31-year-old Smith, who has eight career picks, returned a Week 3 interception for a touchdown against Houston. He has three consecutive double-digit tackling performances and 37 tackles on the year after four contests. He also has 1 1/2 sacks.

Smith picked off Matt Schaub near the end of the second half and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown. He added 10 tackles -- seven solo -- to lead the team, his second double-digit tackle game in a row.

Smith has 15 tackles (six solo) and four pass defenses through two games.
