News: Bears WR Roy Williams closed out the regular season with his second touchdown of the season Week 17 at Minnesota, hauling in a 22-yard pass from QB Josh McCown in the second quarter. Williams, who was targeted a team-high seven times in the contest, finished with four catches for 60 yards. He had six catches for 81 yards -- both season highs -- in Week 16.
Analysis: Williams reached the 60-yard mark only three times all season. The fact that two of those performances came in the final two games of the season likely has more to do with the absence of Johnny Knox (back) than anything else. Williams is no guarantee to return to the Bears in 2012. Wherever he lands, he likely won't be a starter. You can expect him to go undrafted in Fantasy.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams has been a disappointment in his first season in Chicago, however the ascension of QB Josh McCown to the starting role might have been just what Williams needed to revive this season late. In a Week 16 35-21 loss against Green Bay, Williams was McCowns most targeted receiver, bringing in six of the nine passes that went his way for 81 yards. It was Williams highest receiving yardage total of the season.
Analysis: Maybe it was McCowns presence or the absence of the injured Johnny Knox or the Packers porous secondary but either way, it was a very solid showing from the 30-year old receiver. Despite his nice showing in Week 16, Williams isnt recommended as anything more than a No. 4 Fantasy WR for Week 17 against the Vikings, even though the Vikings are one of the leagues worst pass defenses.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams, who entered the game averaging 24.2 receiving yards over his last five, again wasn't much of a factor Week 15 against the Seahawks, catching one pass for 9 yards. He was, however, targeted four times in the contest and could get even more targets in his future now that Johnny Knox is out for the year with a lower back injury.
Analysis: Then again, Dane Sanzenbacher, who was previously a non-entity on offense, got six targets in the contest, so he might benefit the most from the Knox injury. With the Bears' poor quarterback play in recent weeks, Williams is unlikely to make much of a Fantasy impact regardless of his role. He still belongs on waivers in most Fantasy formats.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams went without a catch Week 13 against the Chiefs, but his one target got plenty of attention for what he didn't do. A catchable Caleb Hanie pass that would have tied the game in the fourth quarter went off the receiver's hands in the end zone, hit a Chiefs defender and landed in DB Jon McGraw's arms for an interception. Williams hardly seemed troubled by the drop after the game, though. "My confidence is sky high," he said. "I was waiting on the ball in the first, second and third quarter. Just waiting. Things like that are going to happen. You hope it doesn't happen at those type of critical times, but I'll be ready to go next week."
Analysis: Williams has been just as disappointing in his first year with the Bears as he was for his last two years with the Cowboys. He may have confidence in himself, but the Bears are likely running out of confidence in him, which is why he had only one target in the contest. With Johnny Knox, Earl Bennett and Devin Hester all ahead of him on the depth chart, Williams is at best a last resort in Fantasy for Week 14 at Denver.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams caught three passes for 37 yards in Chicago's 25-20 loss to Oakland in Week 12. After gaining 65 yards the previous week, this was a disappointing performance for Williams, though right in line with his season averages.
Analysis: It's hard to blame Williams for this performance, as most of the Bears' receivers had bad days with new QB Caleb Hanie working his way through struggles in his first NFL start. Still, from a Fantasy perspective, it doesn't much matter whether Williams or Hanie is to blame, as the end result is still that Williams doesn't provide much value for owners. The Bears take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13, but Williams shouldn't be an option for Fantasy owners at this point.
News: Chicago WR Roy Williams will be catching passes from a new quarterback in Week 12, as Caleb Hanie replaces Jay Cutler, who had surgery on his throwing hand thumb Wednesday and will likely miss the rest of the regular season.
Analysis: Williams has had his struggles developing a rapport this season with Cutler, so maybe the change at signal caller will get Williams going. At the very least, Williams made it sound Wednesday as if he'll have an easier time bringing Hanie's passes in if they come his way. "Jay is more of a rifle-it-in-there (type) and Caleb is more of a soft-throw-it, just a nice soft catchable ball," said Williams. Fantasy owners should consider Williams a poor option moving forward, but it's hard to predict how a new quarterback can change the dynamic of an offense. Keep an eye on Williams and all Bears' receivers to see who quickly emerges as Hanie's favorites.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams turned in one of his better performances of the season in Week 11 against the Chargers. Williams finished with a season-high five receptions for 62 yards in the 31-20 win over San Diego, but may have lost his quarterback in the process. Multiple reports surfaced following the game stating QB Jay Cutler broke the thumb on his throwing hand in the victory and will miss six to eight weeks. Caleb Hanie will likely take over as the starter.
Analysis: Williams was finally able to turn in a decent effort on Sunday, but may have lost his starting QB in the process. Fantasy owners should continue and monitor the situation moving forward, but the initial reports don't look good at this point. However, Williams has been somewhat of a disappointment this season, so maybe a change at QB could get him going. Chicago will travel out west to face the Raiders in Week 12. Owners should consider Williams a low-end Fantasy option, no matter who is under center in Week 12.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams will be looking to play a larger role on offense in Week 11 against the Chargers. Williams, who has hauled in 16 receptions for 236 yards and a touchdown through eight games, failed to catch a pass in last week's 37-13 win over the Lions. San Diego enters Sunday's contest ranked eighth in pass defense, allowing 203 yards per game. The Chargers have surrendered 17 touchdown through the air and are allowing an average of 20.1 Fantasy points to opposing WRs on the season.
Analysis: After racking up 10 receptions for 155 yards and a score over his previous three contests, Williams was shutout in last week's win over the Lions. It has been a very up-and-down season for the veteran during his first year in Chicago. While Williams has shown flashes of his old self, he has yet to catch more than four passes in a game and has only been able to find the end zone once thus far. The Chargers have been pretty good at defending the pass thus far, so consider Williams a low-end No. 4 Fantasy WR against San Diego.
News: Chicago WR Roy Williams was targeted twice by Jay Cutler in Week 10 against Detroit, but he did not catch either pass. It was a windy day in Chicago, as Cutler completed just nine passes. The Bears would go on to win the game, 37-13.
Analysis: Williams was getting more involved in the offense, but that all stopped in Week 10. The wind definitely played a big role in the lack of passing plays for Chicago, but Williams has to make the most of his chances. In Week 11 the Bears face the Chargers, one of the better teams against the pass. Fantasy owners should keep viewing Williams as a low-end WR option moving forward.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams has caught at least three passes in each of the last three games and will be looking for similar success in Week 10 against the Lions. Detroit ranks sixth in the league in pass defense, giving up under 194 yards per contest, and have allowed an average of 17.2 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts. When Williams faced his former team earlier in the year, he caught one pass for 11 yards.
Analysis: Williams has began to pick up his production in recent weeks but still remains a low-end Fantasy WR. Plan on leaving him on the bench in the majority of leagues for Week 10.
News:Roy Williams finished second on Chicago in receiving in Week 9 against Philadelphia. He caught three passes for 46 yards in the 30-24 win. He has a long reception of 18 and averaged 15.3 yards per catch. Williams was targeted by QB Jay Cutler a team-high six times in the victory.
Analysis: Williams had his best performance of the season his last time out, posting 59 yards and a touchdown, and had another decent game on Monday. He appears to be getting more comfortable with the offense in Chicago, so keep an eye his progress going forward. But since he is not a consistent Fantasy contributor, continue to view Williams as more of a low-end WR.
News: After a slow start to the season, Bears WR Roy Williams has shown some progress in recent weeks and will look to keep it going in Week 9 against the Eagles. Philadelphia ranks 10th in the league against the pass, giving up over 212 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 17.1 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts. In two games against the Eagles a year ago -- as apart of the Cowboys -- Williams caught three passes for 29 yards.
Analysis: Williams posted season highs with four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown his last time out and appears to be developing a nice rapport with QB Jay Cutler. His 6-3, 215-pound frame gives the Bears a viable option in the passing game, especially in the red zone. While the Eagles have a stout secondary and dangerous pass rush, Williams should continue to improve so consider him as a No. 4 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 9.
News:Roy Williams' four catches was a Bears high Sunday against the Bucs and gives hope he is finally developing a connection with QB Jay Cutler. "Were starting to get a little bit of chemistry there," Cutler said. "Like I said two, three, four games ago: it takes time. It doesnt happen overnight. Finally, were starting to see some steps forward."
Analysis: Williams now has posted consecutive 50-yard performances and finally appears past a groin injury that was nagging him early in the season. However, we still don't see him returning to the form he had during his heyday with the Lions. It's good for Fantasy owners in deep Fantasy formats that Williams is developing rapport with his QB. However, Williams will still be a very low-end Fantasy option in Week 9 against the Eagles after the Bears return from their bye.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams enjoyed his most productive game of the season in London during his team's Week 7 win over Tampa Bay. He caught four passes for 59 yards, including a 25-yard score in the second quarter. He led his team in receiving yards.
Analysis: Williams was targeted five times in the game, fewer times than Devin Hester and Johnny Knox. He has reached the 50-yard mark three times in the season with Sunday's effort just about matching his upside at this stage in his career with his current role in the offense. If you are in a pinch in deeper leagues, he could be worth taking a gamble on because he does have a somewhat regular role. However, he is not a recommended start unless most other options have been exhausted. The Bears will be on a bye in Week 8 before returning to action in Philadelphia in Week 9.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams, coming off his most productive game with the Bears in Week 6 against Minnesota, told the Chicago Sun-Times that he feels as healthy as he has in a long time. "I'm all the way there. I'm back," Williams said. "I'm feeling good."Williams had been slowed by a groin injury, off and on.
Analysis: Williams will be up against the 26th ranked pass defense in the NFL in Week 7, when he travels to London to take on the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay is allowing an average of 276 passing yards per game and have given up 10 touchdown passes, tied for third most in the NFL. Five of those touchdowns have come to opposing wide receivers. Williams remains a stretch to play in Fantasy despite the fact he seems to be closer to being a relevant Fantasy option again. He had three catches for 50 yards in Week 6. However, Fantasy owners in deeper leagues should at least have him on the radar again.
News: After catching just two passes for 26 yards in the last three games, Bears WR Roy Williams had a bounce-back performance in Week 7 against the Vikings. He gained 50 yards on three catches in the 39-10 win. He was targeted by QB Jay Cutler four times and had a long reception of 17 yards. Williams finished second on Chicago in receiving behind Devin Hester (91 yards).
Analysis: Williams went over the 50-yard mark for the second time on Sunday and finally looked comfortable on offense. He is one of the bigger wideouts on Chicago and could do some serious damage if he ever gets on the same page as Cutler so keep an eye on his progress going forward. With the Buccaneers in London up next on the schedule, continue to view Williams as a low-end Fantasy WR.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams has caught just two passes for 26 yards over his last three games and will be looking to get on track in Week 6 against the Vikings. Minnesota enters Sunday ranked 25th in the league against the pass, giving up just under 272 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 21.8 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts. In 10 career games against the division foe, Williams has averaged 48.4 yards receiving with five total touchdowns.
Analysis: Williams has been in and out of the starting lineup for the Bears but neither has been able to jumpstart his production. While the Vikings have given up some yards through the air so far this season, their pass rush should disrupt QB Jay Cutler on Sunday, which will likely limit the Bears effectiveness in the passing game. Consider Williams a low-end No. 4 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 6.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams had another slow performance in Week 5 against the Lions. He caught one pass for 11 yards in the 24-13 loss. He was targeted one time by QB Jay Cutler. Williams has caught six passes for 81 yards in four games this season.
Analysis: Williams got the start on Monday night but again was a non-factor for the Bears. Many thought he would have a bounce-back campaign being re-united with offensive coordinator Mike Martz, but so far it has yielded minimal production. Until he proves to be more valuable, continue to ignore him in the majority of Fantasy leagues. Leave Williams on the bench for Week 6 against the Vikings.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams will be facing off against the team that drafted him in Week 5 -- the Lions. Detroit ranks 12th in the league against the pass, giving up over 221 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 18.5 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts. In one career game against his former team, Williams caught two passes for 20 yards.
Analysis: Williams has caught just one pass for 15 yards since Week 1 as he has been very disappointing since coming over from the Cowboys in the offseason. Many thought he would be in line for a bounce-back campaign being re-united with Mike Martz in Chicago, but so far it has not paid dividends. The season is still young so keep an eye on his progress going forward. But until he proves his worth on the field, continue to ignore Williams in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: Chicago WR Roy Williams was held in check in the Week 4 win over the Panthers. Williams, who had just one catch since going for four Week 1 entering the Week 4 game, finished with one catch against the Panthers on Sunday. Williams caught one pass for 15 yards in the victory over the Panthers. Williams was only targeted once in the game by QB Jay Cutler.
Analysis: Williams had four catches in Week 1 and was then injured for Week 2. He came back Week 3 and went without a catch in the game. He finally registered another catch Week 4, but it did little as the Bears' passing offense struggled. Williams and the Bears play in Detroit in Week 5 and the Lions have been solid on defense. Detroit entered Week 4 having allowed just one touchdown to a wide receiver on the season. Williams and the Bears should struggle against the Lions in Week 5 and the receiver has done almost nothing thus far this year to suggest he's worth using in Fantasy play. Keep him grounded for the Week 5 game.
News: According to Fox Sports, Bears WR Roy Williams is no longer in the starting lineup. Johnny Knox is starting instead. Williams has just three catches for 55 yards through three games.
Analysis: Williams was inactive for Week 2 because of a groin injury and wasn't a factor in Week 3. He may have technically been the starter, but he was never as important to the passing game as Knox. This report only further reduces Williams' already declining Fantasy value.
News: Chicago WR Roy Williams, who considers himself to blame for not having established a rapport with QB Jay Cutler, hopes to come alive Week 4 against the Panthers. Williams, who is as close to 100 percent healthy from his groin injury as can be expected, has only played one career game against the Panthers. He went for 75 yards on four catches in 2009 against Carolina.
Analysis: The Bears brought in Williams this year in hopes he could resurrect his career after it tailed off during his tenure with Dallas. Sadly, Williams' time in Chicago hasn't been much better. He has been a headache since the preseason and has yet to become a factor on offense. We are all hoping that Williams reverts to the form he displayed early in his career, but as of now he is not a recommended Fantasy option heading into Week 4 against the Panthers.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams returned to the lineup in Week 3 against the Packers despite not being 100 percent recovered from a groin injury that kept him out Week 2. He was held without a catch despite being targeted four times and is taking the blame for not being able to develop rapport with QB Jay Cutler. "It was my fault. Put it on me," Williams said, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. "Especially the touchdown. I have strong enough hands to hold on to that ball even with the contact that I got. Great hit by him, but I still have to hold on to that ball. The four balls that I got, I should have caught them."
News: Chicago WR Roy Williams was targeted four times in the Week 3 game against Green Bay. Quarterback Jay Cutler looked his way, but Williams could not come down with a catch in the game. Williams entered the week with a slight groin issue but was healthy enough to suit up for the Bears.
Analysis: Williams played in the Week 3 game and therefore cannot use that groin injury as an excuse for his poor production. Williams sat out Week 2 and is fast becoming an afterthought for Chicago. That said, the Bears dearly need a second option in the passing game next to Johnny Knox, and Williams can still be that option. For now, however, Fantasy owners should not be using Williams in Week 4 against Carolina.
News: Chicago WR Roy Williams (groin) is active for the Week 3 game against the Packers. Williams was questionable coming into the game, but reports were confirmed that he's starting for the Bears against the Packers.
Analysis: Williams is a huge dark horse for production in Week 3 as the Packers pass defense has allowed 400 yards through the air on average so far this season. If you're absolutely desperate for Fantasy help, consider Williams.
News: NFL Network reports that Bears WR Roy Williams (groin) is expected to play vs. the Packers in Week 3. He didn't play last week.
Analysis: Williams is a huge dark horse for production in Week 3 as the Packers pass defense has allowed 400 yards through the air on average so far this season. If you're absolutely desperate for Fantasy help, consider Williams.
News: Chicago WR Roy Williams, who is questionable for Week 3 against Green Bay with a groin injury, though should be able to play, could do well against a Packers team allowing plenty of yards through the air. Already, Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem and Brandon LaFell have scored against the Packers this season and Henderson, Steve Smith and Marques Colston all topped 80 yards with Henderson and Smith topping 100. Smith had 156 yards last week against the Packers.
Analysis: Williams did not play in Week 2 and caught four passes for 55 yards Week 1 against Atlanta. Williams is liable to start in Week 3, but he's still not exactly the top option in the passing game. There is going to be a chance he does well against a Packers team allowing huge chunks of yards through the air. Still, he's considered a low-end option even as a flex for Week 3 due to that nagging groin.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams (groin) is listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Packers. He practiced in some capacity all week. Williams sat out Week 2 against the Saints.
Analysis: Williams being listed as questionable is just in case he suffers a setback, but it appears he will be good to go Sunday. Even if Williams dresses, he is going to be a low-end Fantasy option, so consider using other alternatives.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams (groin) returned to being a full participant in practice Thursday as the team prepares for Week 3 against the Packers. He was limited on Wednesday after sitting out Week 2. "Big receiver, good blocker. He's a good football player, and we need all of them this week against a great Packers team coming in here," coach Lovie Smith said of Williams. "Roy's made a lot of progress. It seems like he's ready to go."
Analysis: It's encouraging that Williams is back at full practice. If he holds up, then Williams should return on Sunday. Even if Williams dresses, he is going to be a low-end Fantasy option, so consider using other alternatives.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams, who was inactive Week 2 because of a groin injury, was limited in practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 3 against the Packers.
Analysis: Williams plans to test his injury in practice this week, but admits if he isn't ready to go, then he won't push himself to be on the field Sunday. Even if Williams dresses, he is going to be a low-end Fantasy option, so consider using healthier alternatives.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams is inactive for Week 2 at New Orleans because of a groin injury. Johnny Knox will start in his place.
Analysis: Williams was a low-end Fantasy option coming into Week 2 anyway, but if you own Knox, then consider starting him. Knox is a No. 3 Fantasy WR with upside. As for Williams, you will have to keep tabs on his progress leading up to Week 3.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams (groin) was limited in practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Week 2 against the Saints. Johnny Knox would start in Week 2 against New Orleans if Williams can't.
Analysis: Even if Williams is active on Sunday, then you have to wonder what kind of shape he will be in, so maybe Fantasy owners need to look to healthier alternatives in Week 2. Williams would be nothing more than a low-end Fantasy start if he makes it onto the field in Week 2. Williams has totaled 10 catches for 208 yards in three career games against the Saints, who gave up 42 Fantasy points to Packers receivers in Week 1.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams was unable to return to practice Thursday because of a groin injury. Johnny Knox would start in Week 2 against New Orleans if Williams can't.
Analysis: Williams was hoping to practice Thursday, but got another day to rest. Williams didn't seem too concerned about missing practice Wednesday, but if he isn't back on Friday, then you have to think his status for Week 2 will be in question. Williams would be nothing more than a low-end Fantasy start if he makes it onto the field in Week 2. Williams has totaled 10 catches for 208 yards in three career games against the Saints, who gave up 42 Fantasy points to Packers receivers in Week 1.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams, who suffered a groin injury in Week 1 against the Falcons, did not practice Wednesday, but he hopes to return to the field on Thursday. "Its not a bad thing missing a day of practice, Williams said. "I remember in Detroit during the best year I had, my son had gotten sick in Texas and I flew down and I missed Wednesday and Thursday practices. I came back Friday, played against the Bills Sunday and I had like (10) catches for 161 yards and a touchdown. Im not going to go Allen Iverson on you, but (missing practice) was good for my legs. At the same time, you have to be there mentally. And I was there mentally that week." Johnny Knox would start Sunday against New Orleans if Williams can't.
Analysis: This groin injury comes after Williams was singled out in the preseason for lack of conditioning. His Chicago career hasn't gotten off to a great start, but before getting injured in Week 1 Williams did post four catches for 55 yards, so you see why Chicago brought him to the Windy City. Williams would be nothing more than a low-end Fantasy start if he makes it onto the field in Week 2. Williams has totaled 10 catches for 208 yards in three career games against the Saints, who gave up 42 Fantasy points to Packers receivers in Week 1.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams came up gimpy following a fourth quarter catch vs. the Falcons and did not finish Week 1 against the Falcons. He suffered a groin injury and finished with 55 yards on four catches. Williams had little to say about the groin, other than he'll get treatment and "see what happens."
Analysis: Williams saw a ton of playing time and seems entrenched as a regular part of the Bears offense. If he's OK he should see time again at the Saints in Week 2. He'd be worth starting as a low-end No. 3 in deep PPR formats if he is active, but he's not expected to help Fantasy owners out too much.
News:Roy Williams understands he's under scrutiny, that the doubts will linger until he shows he can still produce. The spotlight's on. The Chicago Bears open the season at home against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, and if Williams is going to win over his doubters, now is the time. There are plenty of questions surrounding the former Pro Bowl receiver after a disappointing run in Dallas, like whether he can get open or hang onto the ball, and he did little in the preseason to ease those doubts. He couldn't practice until Aug. 4 and he acknowledged he wasn't in football shape when he started. A few weeks ago, receivers coach Darryl Drake made it clear that Williams would be demoted if he didn't step up his performance. Now? "Yeah, he's ready," offensive coordinator Mike Martz said. "He's in real good shape. He's back into what we do offensively, the terminology, how we run the routes, all of those things, and I think he and Jay have got a nice feel there."
Analysis: One of the knocks on the Bears in the past was they stuck too long with certain players, like Rex Grossman or Adam Archuleta or Mark Anderson, but Williams might not be on such a long leash. He's not a big investment, and he got outplayed in the preseason by the man who got knocked down to the No. 2 spot. Johnny Knox had six catches for 86 yards and Chicago's only receiving touchdown. In his limited time, Williams had two catches for 33 yards, and he had his difficulties hanging onto the ball, too. But it seems the Bears want to see what Williams can do, so he remains in the starting lineup. Williams is nothing more than a desperation Fantasy start in Week 1. Williams has totaled 16 catches for 274 yards and three touchdowns in five career games against Atlanta. The Falcons allowed WRs to average 24.4 Fantasy points per week in 2010, which was third highest in the NFL.
News: After threatening to demote WR Roy Williams after a disappointing preseason, the Bears still listed the former Detroit and Dallas receiver as a starter opposite Devin Hester. Johnny Knox, who was pushing Williams for the starting job, is still listed as Williams' primary backup.
Analysis: Sometimes we can't look too much into depth charts. Williams still might be listed as a starter, but he needs to get out of the coach's doghouse, so Knox still might see more reps in Week 1 against the Falcons. Fantasy owners should look to other alternatives to start in Fantasy until we see how Williams fits in with the Bears.
News: Coach Lovie Smith and WR coach Darryl Drake are not backing down from a threat made earlier in the week to demote WR Roy Williams in favor of Johnny Knox. Smith inserted Knox into the first-team offense soon after Williams dropped a pass that led to a Jay Cutler interception on Saturday at Tennessee. Williams had 33 yards on two catches while Knox had one catch for 21 yards.
Analysis: While Williams might be a bigger target for Cutler, and one who will go over the middle, Knox is the one with the deep speed. Knox also hasn't been a total disappointment over the last two seasons like Williams has. Fantasy owners should target Knox with a late-round pick in drafts and not Williams, who might score touchdowns once in a while but not turn in big yardage totals.
News:Roy Williams' catchless preseason and rough start to his tenure with the Bears got worse on Wednesday when WR coach Darryl Drake called out Williams for his poor performance thus far. Not only did Drake talk about Williams' struggles, but he said Johnny Knox could regain his starter's role soon. "If things dont start changing, then Johnnys going to be in there," Drake said. "You heard it straight from the horses mouth."
Analysis: Fantasy owners want to draft Williams as a reserve receiver based on his history in the Mike Martz offense, his quarterback in Jay Cutler and his potential for touchdowns based on the past couple of seasons. But he's not the same player he once was in Detroit with Martz, and the Bears' passing game has some promise thanks to guys like Devin Hester and Knox, who is pushing Williams for playing time. We think there's more upside in Knox than there is in Williams, so consider the third-year receiver with a late pick rather than Williams.
News:Roy Williams might be hitting his stride in practice with the Bears, but he has yet to show it in the preseason. Through two games Williams has no catches but multiple drops, including one Monday night against the Giants. Bears defensive players used to say Williams would develop "gator arms" when he played them twice a year with Detroit. Williams was targeted three times against the G-Men after not being targeted once against the Bills.
Analysis: The drop Williams had is more disconcerting than anything else here. Fantasy owners want to draft Williams as a reserve receiver based on his history in the Mike Martz offense, his quarterback in Jay Cutler and his potential for touchdowns based on the past couple of seasons. But he's not the same player he once was in Detroit with Martz, and the Bears' passing game has some promise thanks to guys like Devin Hester and Johnny Knox, who is pushing Williams for playing time. You should only draft Williams with a late-round pick, thus reducing the risk of him being a big bust for your team.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams said after his best practice Friday that he's starting to feel comfortable in Mike Martz's offense again. Williams signed a one-year deal with the Bears this offseason. "We kind of ran the same thing at Dallas, just a little different, more detailed up here," the former first-round pick said. "I'm trying to get the Dallas things out of my body and out of my mind and get back into this (Mike) Martz thing."
Analysis: Williams said earlier this week that he's out of shape, so we're wondering if he's now realizing that he shouldn't have said that, or if he's gotten in shape over the last few days. We're glad Williams is confident, and playing time should come in big chunks for him in 2011, but Fantasy owners should be leery of drafting him as anything but a reserve option. He didn't do much to impress us in Dallas, and even though he has a good history in Mike Martz's scheme, he's not the same receiver he once was. Williams is worth a late-round pick.
News: Bears WR Roy Williams admitted to CSN Chicago on Wednesday that he is not near game shape. He said the biggest thing to work on in offensive coordinator Mike Matz's system is my conditioning. Getting my wind right. You have to be able to run in this offense. Run all day long. Williams is having trouble establishing rapport with QB Jay Cutler already, and now the process is taking longer because of his lack of time doing football-related activity. Im a firm believer in no matter what you do in the offseason, nothing will get you football ready except for playing football, Williams said. Thats what I believe. Its tough. You can run all the hills and mountains that you want to, but when you get out here and play for four seconds and jog back to the huddle, thats what gets you in shape.
Analysis: Williams still has about three weeks to go before the first game rolls around, but his honesty and joking nature about the question doesn't provide too much confidence for Fantasy owners in hopes of a bounce-back effort. Keep an eye on the issue, though the former Pro Bowler is not worth selecting in the middle rounds on Draft Day. Take Williams with a late-round pick on Draft Day until he proves that he is worth more.
News: ESPN.com reports Bears WR Roy Williams is giddy now that he is working in Mike Martz's offense. "This is the best scheme in the country for me," Williams said. "It's the best scheme, hands down." The Bears have wasted no time having Williams working with the first team in training camp. "I know Jay [Cutler] was begging for a big guy," Williams said. "I know I fit the mold of a big guy. I'm not a Brandon Marshall, who is nine-feet tall. But I'm a big guy who can go across the middle, make the catch and try to keep the chains moving."
Analysis: Williams and Martz previously worked together in Detroit, where Williams totaled 146 catches for 2,148 yards and 12 touchdowns over two seasons (including a career-high 1,310 yards in 2006). Williams has totaled 210 receptions for 3,060 yards and 30 scores in his sixth other seasons. This does seem like a great fit for Williams, who is worth mid- to late-round gamble in Fantasy.
News: The Chicago Tribune reports that Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz is excited to have WR Roy Williams back with him after the two were together in Detroit. On Tuesday, Martz was predicting big things for Williams and said he expects 70-80 catches from him. "He's an elite player," Martz said.
Analysis: Williams and Martz previously worked together in Detroit, where Williams totaled 146 catches for 2,148 yards and 12 touchdowns over two seasons (including a career-high 1,310 yards in 2006). He has the chance to return to Fantasy relevance going back to the NFC North, and hopefully he and QB Jay Cutler can build a rapport under Martz. Plan on drafting Williams with a late-round pick in all leagues.
News:Roy Williams found a new home with some old friends just a day after getting his official release from the Cowboys. The veteran receiver has agreed to terms with the Bears, according to ESPN, and will re-unite with former offensive coordinator Mike Martz and former coach Darryl Drake, who works with Chicago's receivers. Williams and Martz previously worked together in Detroit, where Williams totaled 146 catches for 2,148 yards and 12 touchdowns over two seasons (including a career-high 1,310 yards in 2006).
Analysis: Williams' familiarity with Martz's offense combined with the opportunity he'll have to start right away and catch passes from Jay Cutler make him an appealing Fantasy option. Granted, he's simply not the same receiver now that he was five years ago, but he's a great fit in Chicago and could see more targets than he ever would have in Dallas. Also keep in mind that Williams might not have top-flight speed, but he can score touchdowns (12 in his last two seasons). If you tone down expectations and view Williams as more of a superb possession receiver and not a big-play threat, you can consider him a decent Fantasy choice. We'd take him as a high-end reserve with upside on Draft Day with a middle- to late-round pick.
News: The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Bears reached an agreement with recently-released WR Roy Williams early Friday morning. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the report cited a league source. Williams was released by the Cowboys on Thursday.
Analysis: Williams has history with offensive coordinator Mike Martz from their days in Detroit during the overpaid wideout's best pro seasons. If Williams comes anywhere near those numbers after fumbling for three years in Dallas, he would be worth consideration as a low-end option at least. For now, he is worth a late-round pick until the rest of the offense is put together. Williams can be a sleeper pick on Draft Day if he dials back his potential to his early NFL days, especially on a team in need of a go-to-guy with TE Greg Olsen traded away. Stay tuned.
News: The Cowboys have officially parted ways with WR Roy Williams as part of their roster restructuring heading into the 2011 season. Williams was scheduled to count $9.09 million on the cap in 2011. There were previous reports this offseason that he would stay in town.
Analysis: We're pretty sure that Williams will end up on another roster (Chicago is a possibility as he could reunite with Mike Martz). Regardless, he is no longer the threat he once was outside of being a decent red-zone guy from time to time. Your best bet is to consider him with a late-round pick, if at all.
News: The Cowboys are reportedly going to part ways with WR Roy Williams as part of their roster restructuring. Williams is scheduled to count $9.09 million on the cap in 2011. There were previous reports this offseason that he would stay in town.
Analysis: Perhaps Williams will settle for a lesser contract to stick with the Cowboys, who he grew up idolizing. Or he'll end up on another roster (Chicago is a possibility as he could reunite with Mike Martz). Regardless, Williams is no longer the threat he once was outside of being a decent red-zone guy from time to time. Your best bet is to consider him with a late-round pick, if at all.
News: According to ESPN.com, the lockout is helping Cowboys WR Roy Williams. He said his body can use the rest after seven NFL seasons. I talked to a player who was contemplating retirement, but the lockout has gotten his body back to where it needs to be, Williams said. For us older players, its good. The lockout also makes it extremely unlikely that the Cowboys will part ways with Williams before the season starts, whenever that may be. Williams might have had job security anyway because cutting him would force the Cowboys to take a huge salary cap hit. That probably makes it pretty easy for Williams to rest and relax.
Analysis: We expect the Cowboys to keep Williams, but the results of the lockout could determine his fate, but he is projected as the No. 3 WR behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. Even in Dallas, Williams isn't worth drafting in the majority of leagues. At best he should be considered a No. 4 Fantasy WR in deep leagues.
News: The Cowboys official team website speculates that Dallas will keep WR Roy Williams in 2011 and not release him once the lockout is lifted. The reason for that is the Cowboys would still owe Williams $12.9 million if he's cut, according to the report. There's also the thought that Dez Bryant was injury prone in his rookie year, and finding a suitable third WR would be tough without offseason workouts and minicamps.
Analysis: We expect the Cowboys to keep Williams, but the results of the lockout could determine his fate. Even in Dallas, Williams isn't worth drafting in the majority of leagues. At best he should be considered a No. 4 Fantasy WR in deep leagues.
News: The Dallas Morning News speculates that Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams might not return to Dallas in 2011. The report says with Miles Austin and Dez Bryant both younger and far more productive than Williams, his usefulness seems minimal, especially with what Dallas is paying him. The story says "pending the new CBA, it would certainly seem that Roy's 3-year run with the Cowboys will not see a 4th. Paying #1 WR money to a #3 WR seems financially foolish if it can be avoided."
Analysis: Williams could also take a pay cut to stay with the Cowboys, but Fantasy owners should keep an eye on what happens with him this offseason. He has the potential to be a No. 3 Fantasy WR, but if he remains with Dallas he should only be considered a No. 4 Fantasy option with a late-round pick.
News: Due over $5 million in 2011, WR Roy Williams might be a cap casualty for the Cowboys. But the Dallas Morning News speculates that Williams might take a pay cut to stay with the team. Williams, a Dallas native, has said he wants to finish his career with the Cowboys.
Analysis: Williams took a step back in 2010 as injuries and inconsistent play hindered his Fantasy value. He was supposed to help pick up the scoring slack when WR Dez Bryant suffered a season-ending injury in Week 13, but instead the veteran struggled mightily. It is not yet known if he will return to Dallas next season so Fantasy owners should keep an eye on things during the offseason to see how everything plays out. Williams has shown the ability to be a solid Fantasy contributor but he will be only be worth taking in the later rounds on Draft Day as a low-end option, depending on where he's playing next season.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams did not finished the season on a high note in Week 17 against the Eagles. He caught just one pass for 6 yards in the 14-13 win. He was targeted three times by QB Stephen McGee. Williams finished the regular season with 37 catches for 530 yards and five touchdowns.

News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams was active for Week 17 against the Eagles after being limited in practice earlier in the week due to a groin injury. Williams was targeted just twice in Dallas' loss at Arizona in Week 16 after not playing at all the previous week. He has recorded just 36 receptions and 524 yards this season, placing him in danger of posting a career low in receiving yards when playing at least 14 games (596).
Analysis: Williams was supposed to help pick up the scoring slack when WR Dez Bryant suffered a season-ending injury in Week 13. Instead the veteran has struggled mightily. Even though he is active for Week 17, Williams is a very risky Fantasy option. It doesn't help his cause that Stephen McGee might be under center for the Cowboys.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams practiced in full for the first time this week on Friday and has been listed as probable for Week 17 against the Eagles. Williams was targeted just twice in Dallas' loss at Arizona in Week 16 after not playing at all the previous week. He has recorded just 36 receptions and 524 yards this season, placing him in danger of posting a career low in receiving yards when playing at least 14 games (596). Williams talked about his second-half stumble, catching just 15 passes in the last 10 weeks after 21 in the first five. Its disappointing," he said. "It started out nice and then all of a sudden I fell off the face of the earth.
Analysis: Williams was supposed to help pick up the scoring slack when WR Dez Bryant suffered a season-ending injury in Week 13. Instead the veteran has struggled mightily. He is expected to take the field in Week 17, but Williams is a very risky Fantasy option. It doesn't help his cause that Stephen McGee might be under center for the Cowboys.
News: Dallas WR Roy Williams was limited in practice Thursday for the second day in a row as he continues to deal with a nagging groin injury ahead of the Cowboys' Week 17 game at Philadelphia.
Instead the veteran has struggled mightily and has caught just 15 passes in his last 10 games after hauling in 21 in his first five outings. Its disappointing," he said Thursday. "It started out nice and then all of a sudden I fell off the face of the earth. Fantasy owners should consider other options at WR for Week 17 as Williams is not a recommended Fantasy play.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams was limited in practice Wednesday because of a lingering groin injury. He returned to action in Week 16 against the Cardinals after sitting out Week 15, but he had no catches against Arizona. Dallas plays Philadelphia in Week 17.
Analysis: To make matters worse for Williams is that he hasn't had a touchdown since Week 6 and continues to be a huge disappointment for the Cowboys and Fantasy owners. He has failed to pick up the slack in the absence of Dez Bryant. This groin injury clearly hasn't helped, and with Stephen McGee potentially the starting QB on Sunday that doesn't help Williams' Fantasy outlook. Look to other alternatives in Week 17 before settling on Williams -- if he plays.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys WR Roy Williams continues to deal with the groin injury that kept him out of Week 14. In the Week 15 loss at Arizona, Williams was targeted twice and didn't record a reception. "He was working his way through it," interim coach Jason Garrett said. "We'll see how it goes." Williams is expected to play in Week 17 at Philadelphia.
Analysis: Williams has minimal Fantasy value heading into the game with the Eagles. Not only is he at less than 100 percent, but he likely will also have an inexperienced QB in Stephen McGee, who is expected to make his first NFL start with Jon Kitna (oblique) hurt. Don't plan on using Williams in Week 17 in the majority of leagues.
News: Dallas WR Roy Williams could not come down with a single reception in the Week 16 loss at Arizona on Christmas. Williams couldn't catch a pass from starter Jon Kitna and didn't get any better once he was injured and Stephen McGee entered the game after halftime. Williams saw two targets and one of them resulted in a ball right off his chest and hands and into the waiting arms of Greg Toler for a 66-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Analysis: Williams is not a reliable receiver by any stretch and the less experienced the Dallas quarterback, the worse he seems to play. He doesn't get open with regularity and he literally cost the Cowboys seven points by allowing the tipped pass early on to fall into the hands of Toler for the INT for a touchdown. Williams is not considered a viable play in anything but the deepest of leagues for the final regular-season game Week 17 at Philadelphia.
News: Dallas WR Roy Williams is active for the Week 16 game on Saturday in Arizona. Williams was questionable coming into the game with a groin injury after being limited in practice all week.
Analysis: Williams was one of the hotter Fantasy pickups after rookie WR Dez Bryant (fibula) went down for the season, but the injury surely neutralized the trend. Williams has caught just two passes in each of the last two games he's played in, so don't bank on him figuring out how to break out of the slump. He's just a flex play for Week 16.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams will head into Week 16 as questionable on the official injury report. He had limited participation all week in practice.
Analysis: Williams was one of the hotter Fantasy pickups after rookie WR Dez Bryant (fibula) went down for the season, but the injury surely neutralized the trend. Williams has caught just two passes in each of the last two games he's played in, so don't bank on him figuring out how to break out of the slump if he plays on Saturday. QB Jon Kitna has favored TE Jason Witten heavily in the team's passing game and WR Miles Austin still gets the second-most targets. We see Williams as a low-end Fantasy option if active.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams (groin) said hes feeling pretty good after missing last weeks game with a groin injury. Williams has practiced on a limited basis for the last two days but expects to play. I think I can get out there and do something. The Cowboys take on the Cardinals in Week 16, on Christmas.

News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams (groin), who missed his first game of the season last Sunday against Washington, was on the field Tuesday running routes. He'll likely be limited in Tuesday's practice with a chance to work back into full participation on Thursday.
Analysis: Williams got off to a nice start this season, but it's pretty much all downhill since then. He has just one game with more than 35 yards in his last eight, and likely won't be at anywhere close to 100 percent on Saturday if he does suit up. If you can afford to, avoid Williams in Fantasy play for Week 16.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams (groin) missed the Week 15 game against the Redskins. He was inactive with a groin injury. With Dez Bryant on IR, the Cowboys have just Miles Austin among their regular receivers.
Analysis: Williams was struggling but could have seen a bump in value this week with Bryant going on IR. Unfortunately, Williams is out, too. He can be stashed away for the final few weeks of the season.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams missed practice again Friday because of a groin injury and is listed as questionable for Sunday's Week 15 game vs. the Redskins. If he's healthy in Week 15, Williams will fill in for injured receiver Dez Bryant as the second option in the passing game behind Miles Austin against the Redskins. Williams only caught three passes for 21 yards in Week 1 at Washington. He has just four grabs for 25 yards and a touchdown in his last three games against the Redskins.
Analysis: Williams has four catches and 55 yards receiving in his last two games and hasn't scored since getting into the end zone twice Week 6 in Minnesota. He could get a boost in targets with Bryant out for the year, but Williams will be nothing more than low-end flex option for Week 15, if he's able to suit up, which is no guarantee.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams didnt appear to have a serious groin injury earlier in the week, but it sounds like it could be more serious after he missed Thursdays practice.

He could get a boost in targets with Bryant out for the year, but Williams will be nothing more than low-end flex option for Week 15, if he's able to suit up.
News: The Redskins have not allowed a touchdown by a wide receiver since giving up three against the Eagles in Week 10. That means that Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams will have a tall task ahead of him if he's going to fill in for injured receiver Dez Bryant as the second option in the passing game behind Miles Austin in Week 15 against Washington. Williams only caught three passes for 21 yards in Week 1 at Washington. He has just four grabs for 25 yards and a touchdown in his last three games against the Redskins overall.
Analysis: Williams has four catches and 55 yards receiving in his last two games and hasn't scored since getting into the end zone twice Week 6 in Minnesota. The Cowboys have not been the same passing team since Tony Romo went down. He could get a boost in targets with Bryant out for the year, but Williams is nothing more than low-end flex option for the Week 15 game. Williams was limited in practice Wednesday with a groin injury, but he is expected to play Sunday, barring a setback.
News: With WR Dez Bryant (fibula) sidelined for the remainder of the season, Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams has a chance to be more of a factor in the passing game. Instead, he caught two passes for 23 yards while being targeted four times by QB Jon Kitna. Williams has now caught two or fewer passes in seven of the last eight games, without a touchdown in that span.
Analysis: Even though they played together in Detroit, it seems like Williams and Kitna didn't bring any of that chemistry to Dallas. Since Kitna took over for QB Tony Romo (left shoulder), Williams has 15 catches (no TDs) after he found the end zone five times in the first five games of the season with Romo, catching no fewer than three balls in each game. Kitna has gotten the ball to Williams, but the WR dropped one on Sunday night and slipped coming out of his break on the other, ultimately resulting in an interception. In Week 15, he will try to get on the same page as the QB against the Redskins. He caught three passes for 21 yards against them in Week 1, but with Romo under center. Williams should be considered a low-end Fantasy option heading into the matchup.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams has gone seven straight games without a touchdown and nine games without eclipsing the 100-yard mark this season. In Week 14, he will have as good of a shot as any to turn it around against the Eagles, who rank 17th against the pass. Their defense has allowed an opposing WR to reach the end zone against them in three straight weeks. Still, just three opposing WRs have eclipsed the 100-yard mark against them. Williams has caught five passes in each of his last two games against Philadelphia, notching a combined 134 yards.
Analysis: Explosive rookie WR Dez Bryant (fibula) is out for the season, so Williams will undoubtedly get the starting nod and should see some more targets. Also, Eagles starting CB -- and NFL interception leader -- Asante Samuel has been ruled out with a knee sprain. With Samuel and Bryant out, Williams has the opportunity to do more damage than he has done all season. Now he just has to do it. We'll call him a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR in a best-case scenario where he takes advantage of the additional targets.
News: Coming off a surprising five-catch, 83-yard performance against the Saints last week, Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams went back to being a minimal contributor Week 13 at Indianapolis, finishing with two catches for 32 yards. He figures to play a bigger role in the future, though, after rookie WR Dez Bryant went down in the fourth quarter with a fractured right ankle.
Analysis: Bryant is out for the season, which is one last obstacle standing between Williams and consistent Fantasy production. He still has to compete with Miles Austin and Jason Witten for looks in a crowded Cowboys passing attack, but he could get back to performing the way he did over the first five games of the season, when he averaged 61.2 yards and scored five touchdowns. If you need a No. 3 Fantasy WR, he's worth a look off the waiver wire, but you might want to wait and see how he performs Week 14 against the Eagles before activating him.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams, who ended a streak of six straight games with less than 35 receiving yards with a five-catch 83-yard performance last week, will have trouble repeating those numbers Week 13 at Indianapolis. He'll be facing a Colts defense that surrenders just 18.4 Fantasy points per game to wide receivers, eighth-lowest in the NFL. The Colts rank sixth against the pass, allowing 204.5 yards per game, and just gave up 185 yards to Chargers QB Philip Rivers last week.
Analysis: Among the Cowboys' receiving options, Williams is probably fourth in priority, behind Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. His good performances will likely be few and far between, and considering the Colts are one of the best teams in the league against the pass, now isn't the time to expect another one of those big performances. Williams is little more than a desperation play in Fantasy this week.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams had a key fumble in Thursday's game against New Orleans on Thanksgiving Day in Week 12, which ruined his outing. Williams finished the game with five catches for 83 yards on eight targets, including a 47-yard reception in the fourth quarter. But it was on that catch when Williams was stripped by Saints DB Malcolm Floyd and fumbled the ball.
Analysis: This was Williams' best game since Week 5 against Tennessee, but the fumble was a killer for Fantasy owners and the Cowboys. Williams remains too inconsistent to trust for Fantasy owners, and he's not worth using in the majority of leagues in Week 13 at the Colts.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams continues to struggle, and Sunday was no different in Week 11 against Detroit, his former team. Williams was held to two catches for 20 yards on just two targets. In the last six games, Williams has been thrown 17 passes, catching nine balls for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Analysis: Williams is not worth using in the majority of leagues with his recent play. Don't plan on starting him in Week 12 against New Orleans on Thanksgiving Day.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams is ready to face his former team in Week 11 against Detroit, but he's not sure how much he will be involved. On Thursday, Williams told ESPN.com that hed just have to make the most of his two or three looks a game. In his past four games, Williams has combined for four catches for 60 yards and no touchdowns. "I mean, you have to embrace your role, embrace your role whatever they may be, whatever it is for this football team to win, Williams said when asked if he was satisfied with his role. Just know when the ball comes my way, I have to make a play. If I get two or three looks a game, I have to capitalize on those two or three looks and hope that they can increase to four or five, six looks a game. But if not, just make the play and hopefully they're big plays like last week, the 3rd-and-22 first down, so that's something that's real small, but real big , and big in my eyes because nobody else sees it.
Analysis: Williams said hes never had a bigger role in the Cowboys offense, but that simply isnt true. He was thrown 28 passes in the first four games this season, when he caught 18 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns. In the last five games, Williams has been thrown 15 passes, catching seven balls for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Its no coincidence that Dez Bryant has exploded during that span, catching 24 passes for 359 yards and five touchdowns. Kind of like the tables have turned, Williams said. I was scoring the touchdowns and all of a sudden I get swept up under the thing and here comes Dez scoring touchdowns. I just hope that we can, all three of us [receivers] can just do it. We'll see if Williams can turn it around this week. The Lions come into this game No. 17 in pass defense at 223 passing yards allowed per game with 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Six wide receivers have reached double digits in Fantasy points against Detroit. Go into this matchup with Williams as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams caught all the passes thrown his way in Week 10 against the Giants. Unfortunately he had just two targets in Dallas' 33-20 win over New York. He ended the day with 32 receiving yards -- the most yardage he's gained since Week 4. In the weeks entering Sunday, Williams had 55 yards combined in four games -- laying a goose egg in one of them.
Analysis: Dallas looked good on Sunday and Williams' one catch was a nice grab. But it seems like he's fallen out of favor in interim coach Jason Garrett's offensive plans lately. Rookie Dez Bryant has been getting more looks and a lot of yards with Jon Kitna under center. As of right now, Williams doesn't have much of a Fantasy upside. He's a player that has never lived up to his potential. He does face the team that drafted him -- Detroit -- in Week 11, so he may have something to prove. Owners should view him as a flex option at best for the time being.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams has nine catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns in his last five outings against his Week 10 opponents -- the New York Giants. Those numbers are a bit deceiving as well as six of those catches and both scores came in one game. The Cowboys have a new coach in Jason Garrett, but the offense has struggled under him the first nine weeks of the season. Williams and Jon Kitna connected once for 6 yards last week against the Packers, so he doesn't have much to build off of coming into Week 10. The Giants are allowing 169.8 passing yards per contest this year, second best in the league.
Analysis: Williams has always been viewed as a player that hasn't lived up to his potential, dating back to when Detroit drafted him. The Cowboys gave up a lot to bring him into Dallas, but he hasn't really developed into a go-to guy in this offense. Over the past three games he has just two catches, which doesn't give him much of a Fantasy upside. Owners should shy away from Williams in Week 10, as he is no more than a low-end flex option.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams was held to just one catch for 6 yards in the Week 9 loss to the Packers. He was targeted four times by QB Jon Kitna on the night. On one of those passes, Williams deflected the ball to the ground, then Packers DB Nick Collins hit him helmet-to-helmet, causing Williams to stay down for a few minutes. He missed several plays but later returned to the game. "We are a 1-7 ballclub," Williams said. "That is who we are. There is no getting around that. There is no saying that we are better."
Analysis: Williams seemed to be motionless for just a few moments but he regained himself quickly and was able to walk off the field on his own power. The lack of production should worry Fantasy owners. He has managed just two catches in his last three games, even though Kitna (his teammate in Detroit) has been throwing the majority of those passes in that span. In Week 10, the Cowboys play the Giants, who ended starting QB Tony Romo's season in Week 7. In that loss, Williams did not catch a single pass. For that matchup we see Williams as a very-low Fantasy WR.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams has three touchdowns in eight career games against the Packers, who the Cowboys face in Week 9. He will again have Jon Kitna throwing to him, even though he looked Williams' way just three times last week. They will look for more connections on Sunday night. The Packers defense has only allowed Santana Moss and Brandon Marshall to eclipse the 100 yard-mark against them this season. Williams last faced the Packers in 2009, when he provided the Cowboys only TD of the game on his way to five catches for 105 yards.
Analysis: Williams did not benefit from Kitna's familiarity with him in Week 8, but perhaps they can rekindle their connection from their Detroit days in Week 9. Williams was playing fairly well before the Giants game in Week 7, but has managed just one catch in his last two outings. We don't expect Williams to be that bad on Sunday night, but we don't expect him to have anything more than an average game against the Packers. Consider him to be a very low-end Fantasy WR in the matchup.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams may have lost a lot of Fantasy value after the Week 8 game against Jacksonville. With Tony Romo injured for what might be the rest of the season, Jon Kitna started for the Cowboys. The duo had spent plenty of time together in Detroit but Williams was barely even targeted in the blowout loss by Kitna on Sunday. Kitna threw three passes Williams' way and he just dropped one flat out. He finished with one catch for 21 yards in the game.
Analysis: Williams had come from the depths of ineffectiveness and recorded five touchdowns between Weeks 3 and 6. All signs pointed to him being a solid Fantasy option once again. Williams, however, failed to make a catch Week 7 against the Giants, a game in which Romo got injured. With Kitna under center, Williams was barely even targeted. His latest stretch of futility makes it hard to trust him in any Fantasy leagues for Week 9 at Green Bay.
News: Dallas wide receiver Roy E. Williams went from a top Fantasy option to a major question mark with one fruitless week that saw starting quarterback Tony Romo go down with injury. As Dallas enters the Week 8 game against Jacksonville, Williams is coming off a game in which he failed to make a catch for the first time all season. That comes on the heels of a three-game streak in which Williams produced five touchdowns and seemed to be becoming Romo's favorite option in the red zone. That said, once Jon Kitna entered the game last week, the only receiver who seemed to benefit was rookie Dez Bryant.
Analysis: The Cowboys are going to be without their top gun slinger against the Jaguars and you can bet that is going to mean more running and fewer opportunities for Williams, especially as he didn't get a catch the week prior. We completely understand your trepidation on that regard. Miles Austin remains a top option because he's the clear-cut No. 1 weapon for Dallas. Williams, however, loses much more value. Despite the Jaguars allowing more Fantasy points per game to opposing receivers than any other team in the NFL at 29 points per contest, we cannot believe it will be Williams doing the damage. He should be considered no more than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy option for the game.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams saw some passes thrown his way in Week 7 against the Giants but was unable to make a catch for the first time this season. He just saw three targets in the 41-35 loss. Starting QB Tony Romo suffered a broken collarbone in the second quarter and Jon Kitna was forced into action for the rest of the game. Neither of them could find Williams though on Monday night.
Analysis: Williams had caught touchdown passes in three consecutive games entering Week 7 but the Cowboys couldn't get much of anything going early on against a stout Giants defense. Kitna also looked shaky after entering the game and threw high to Williams on a few occasions, passes in which the 28-year-old had little chance of catching. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the situation in Dallas as Williams' Fantasy value could take a huge hit if Kitna is unable to get the ball to him. He will face off against Jacksonville and their 27th ranked pass defense in Week 8 so continue to view Williams as a No. 3 Fantasy WR for his five touchdown receptions on the year.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams has caught a touchdown pass in three straight games and will be looking to continue that trend in Week 7 against the Giants. He has caught three in six career games against the division foe but New York enters the 2010 matchup with the No. 2 ranked passing defense in the league. Also, the Giants have allowed an average of 17.67 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts through the first six games.
Analysis: Williams has five touchdown grabs on the year, all coming in the last three games. He has gone over the century mark only once during that span but has become a viable red-zone target for QB Tony Romo lately. The wide receiver competition in Dallas is stiff but Williams continues to produce with 21 receptions, 15 of which for first downs. Despite the tough matchup in Week 7, continue to view Williams as a low-end No.2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy WR against the Giants.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams extended his scoring streak to three straight games in Week 6 against the Vikings. Williams only had three receptions for 28 yards, but two of those went for scores. He was on the receiving end of 15-yard strike for Tony Romo in the first quarter and a 2-yarder in the second. He averaged just 9.3 yards a reception with a long of 19 yards, but has now caught five touchdown passes over his last three games.
Analysis: Williams has burst onto the Fantasy scene after being pretty much a non-factor over the first two weeks of the season. While he isn't racking up the yards or receptions, Williams is certainly making each reception count. Five of his last 14 catches have gone for touchdowns and Romo keeps on looking his direction in the red zone. Williams has a tough matchup in Week 7 against a Giants team that was ranked No. 1 in pass defense prior to Sunday. Still, Williams is way to hot not to start at this point and can be considered a solid No. 2 Fantasy WR heading into Week 7.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams will look to extend his scoring streak in Week 6 against the Vikings. Williams has scored three touchdowns over his last two games, while racking up 11 receptions for 206 yards over that span. The Vikings are ranked 6th in passing defense and have allowed an average of just 15 Fantasy points to opposing WRs so far this season.
Analysis: Williams has really picked up his production over the past two games after a slow start to the season. While he has to compete with Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant for receptions, Tony Romo has been looking his way more often of late and Williams has been proving he can still be asset to Fantasy teams. Consider him a solid No. 2 Fantasy WR heading into Week 6.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams found the end zone for the second straight game in Week 5 against the Titans. Williams was on the receiving end of a 6-yard strike from Tony Romo late in the second quarter that pulled the Cowboys within seven. He was targeted eight times and finished with six receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown. Williams averaged 14.5 yards per reception and had a long of 27 yards in the 34-27 loss.
Analysis: After a slow start to the season Williams has picked up his production over the past two games. He has 206 yards receiving and three touchdowns over that span and is starting to get more looks from Tony Romo. While he still has to contend with Miles Austin, Jason Witten and Dez Bryant for receptions, Williams has proved he can still be a valuable asset to Fantasy teams. Consider him a solid No. 3 Fantasy WR heading into Week 6 against the Vikings.
News: WR Roy E. Williams has impressed the Cowboys not just with his play but also with his toughness in the face of intense scrutiny and criticism, reports The Sports Xchange. He has not let it get to him and he has stayed strong, which is why so many of his coaches and teammates were happy to see him thrive against Houston in Week 3 when he posted 117 yards and two touchdowns. "When people praised him for a big game, he said 'I'm just part of a team and trying to do my best,'" coach Wade Phillips said. "That's been his attitude. That's appreciated by me, but also by our team." Williams will look to put another strong outing on the board in Week 5 against the Titans.
Analysis: Williams has faced a lot of criticism since being picked up in a trade with Detroit a few seasons ago since he has failed to become the big-play receiver the Cowboys thought they were getting. That role has gone to Miles Austin and Williams even has more competition with the arrival of rookie Dez Bryant. But Williams showed in Week 3 that he can still be a factor in the passing game. In one career game against Tennessee, Williams had four catches for 62 yards and one score. The Titans have allowed just one score to WRs in 2010, but have also given up 59 catches for 617 yards. Consider Williams a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 5.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams is coming off of his best game as a Cowboy after the Week 3 win against the Texans. Williams had five catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns. "I don't think success is measured off one game," he said. "I think it's consistency. I put together three good games. I have put together a good preseason. I have to keep it going," said Williams. The Cowboys have a bye in Week 4 before hosting the Titans in Week 5.
Analysis: Williams finally broke out for a Cowboys team that needed it, against a defense that did not expect it. One of Williams' TDs in Week 3 was for 63 yards in the third quarter, when QB Tony Romo hit him on a slant after noticing he was man-covered. Williams did the rest on his way to his best day as a Cowboy. He is available in roughly half of CBSSports.com leagues, and is worth adding to the bench for use as a fill-in Fantasy WR during other WRs bye weeks.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams had a breakout game Sunday at Houston in Week 3. Williams had five catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns, and he was targeted six times. His first touchdown was for 15 yards in the third quarter, and his second touchdown went for 63 yards in the fourth quarter. The 117 receiving yards was his highest total since joining the Cowboys in 2008, and Williams took advantage of Texans CBs Kareem Jackson and Brice McCain at the line on both of his touchdowns. "They're young guys and were playing man to man," Williams said. "It's tough to put someone on an island, and we took advantage of that."
Analysis: This was good to see Williams play like this, but we don't expect to see this type of performance again going forward. Miles Austin (two catches for 20 yards) struggled in this game, and Dez Bryant (four catches for 50 yards) and Jason Witten (seven catches for 56 yards) have yet to score this season. Williams took advantage of a good matchup and might be worth adding off the waiver wire since he's only owned in 40 percent of leagues on CBSSports.com, but don't plan on starting him in the majority of leagues. Dallas has a bye in Week 4 before facing Tennessee in Week 5.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams has struggled through two games this year with only seven catches for 74 yards and a fumble against Washington and Chicago. This week, he has a favorable matchup against the Texans, but we'll see if he can take advantage of it. Houston has been burned for 564 yards and two touchdowns by wide receivers this season. They have given up one 100-yard game (Austin Collie) to a receiver and allowed two receivers (Collie and Santana Moss) to total 10 or more catches. Also, four opposing receivers have been targeted 10 or more times (Collie, Moss, Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon) against the Texans this season.
Analysis: Even with the good matchup, we don't expect Williams to play at a high enough level to consider him a starting Fantasy option in the majority of leagues. The Cowboys have other weapons for Tony Romo to use with Miles Austin, Jason Witten and Dez Bryant. Consider Williams a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR at best this week, but our suggestion would be to keep him reserved.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams performed better in the Week 2 loss to Chicago than he did against the Redskins in the opening week of the season. That said, Williams still left a lot to be desired on Sunday in the 27-20 loss. Williams caught four passes for 53 yards but was targeted seven times in the game. He had a long catch of 20 yards. Unfortunately, he also lost a fumble in the game.
Analysis: Williams managed just three catches against the Redskins in Week 1 for 21 yards. He has seemingly become the fourth option in the passing game behind Miles Austin, Jason Witten and Dez Bryant. Williams is a flex option, at best, for Week 3 at Houston.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams will face the Bears at home in Week 2 after making three catches for 21 yards against the Redskins on Sunday night in the opening week. Williams was targeted seven times but was clearly the third option for the Cowboys behind Miles Austin and rookie Dez Bryant. Williams has caught just nine passes for 113 yards and one touchdown in his last five regular-season games for the Cowboys.
Analysis: The Bears were solid against Detroit's wide receivers Week 1, allowing just six grabs for 88 yards with most of that going to top option Calvin Johnson. Dallas should look to Austin first and Bryant second and Fantasy owners should expect those two to remain the only viable options among Dallas wide receivers. Williams is bound to have a bounce-back game at some point but he just cannot be trusted at this point in his career.
News: New year, same result for Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams. The former Lion, who has been nothing but a disappointment since joining Dallas midway through the 2008 season, was targeted seven times Week 1 at Washington, but he caught only three passes for 21 yards. Though he started the game, he was quickly overshadowed by rookie Dez Bryant, who had a team-high 12 targets, catching eight passes for 56 yards.
Analysis: Williams was decent in the red zone last year, but his lack of yardage made him barely serviceable as a Fantasy option. With Bryant in the picture now, Williams' prospects get even worse. He'll likely be the fourth receiving option behind Miles Austin, Jason Witten and Bryant. Even in a passing offense, that's not going to do him much good. He's no more than a reserve in Fantasy when the Cowboys host the Bears in Week 2.
News: According to the Dallas Morning News, Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams said he will use a derogatory comment made about him by Hall-of-Fame WR Michael Irvin as a motivational tool. Irvin said on the NFL Network that his former team is playing "10 vs. 11'' when Williams is on the field. "That lit my fire,'' Williams said Friday. "It just lit me up. ... That got me going.''
Analysis: Fantasy owners will be glad to see Williams get fired up, and they have to be hoping he turns that into success on the field after two brutal first seasons in Dallas. In Week 1, Dallas takes on the Redskins, who Williams has averaged 2.5 catches for 27.3 yards against during his career. He had just one catch for 4 yards in a game against them last year. Continue to view Williams as just a low-end Fantasy WR for now, barely worth using off the bat here in 2010.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams, who should be ready to go Week 1 at Washington despite battling a strained back and hip flexor at the end of the preseason, will be facing a team that has given him trouble over the years. He has averaged 2.5 catches for 27.3 yards against the Redskins during his career and had one catch for 4 yards in a game against them last year.
Analysis: Of course, Williams' one catch in that game was a touchdown, which is the silver lining for the former Pro-Bowler. Though his numbers have declined considerably since coming over from the Lions in 2008, his seven touchdown grabs last year were his most since his career 2006 season. Then again, who knows how many red-zone looks he'll lose with rookie Dez Bryant on board? Because Williams is just a peripheral option in a deep Cowboys' offense, he's just a low-end Fantasy WR, especially against the Redskins, who ranked ninth against the pass last season and fifth against the pass this preseason.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams is not expected to play in the team's preseason finale but is expected to be OK for the team's Week 1 tilt at Washington. "I have no reason and the trainers have given me no indication that he won't be," Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said of Williams.
Analysis: Williams scored seven touchdowns last season but didn't produce much in the way of yardage, and owners have since toned down expectations. The injury shouldn't stop people from drafting Williams as a good reserve Fantasy WR with a late-round pick.
News: The Cowboys' official web site reports that WR Roy E. Williams did not practice Tuesday as he's dealing with a low back strain and a hip flexor.
Analysis: Williams' Fantasy value has gone into the toilet since coming over to Dallas from Detroit, with just 74 catches for 1,026 yards over the last two seasons. He did catch seven touchdowns last season though, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel heading into 2010. He remains worth drafting as a No. 4 Fantasy receiver for now.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams had his most productive game of the preseason during Saturday's loss to the Texans. He had five balls thrown his way, catching three and drawing a defensive holding call on another. He finished with 39 yards receiving. Williams had two receptions in the previous three games.
Analysis: Williams has been a disappointment since coming over to Dallas in a trade. In 15 games last season, he finished with 38 receptions for 596 yards and seven touchdowns. Tony Romo has an abundance of targets to throw the ball to this season, so Williams will see less than optimal opportunities. We consider him a No. 4 Fantasy WR because there simply aren't enough balls to go around in Dallas.
News: In a period of team drills on Tuesday, Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams caught four consecutive passes, including a deep ball from Tony Romo where he reached out to snag a pass with his fingertips. "I thought Roy was on his game today," WR coach Ray Sherman said.
Analysis: Williams has just one catch for 21 yards in two preseason games, but he has received a few targets in the red zone. He is making the most of his playing time with rookie Dez Bryant sidelined by injury. Williams is having a good camp, but we still need to see him in action in the regular season before he regains a favorable status in Fantasy. We still like him more as a No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy WR, worth a look in the later rounds on Draft Day.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams played for only one series during Sunday's preseason opener against the Bengals, but he had quite an eventful game. Williams was targeted four times on the opening drive, including twice in the red zone on consecutive plays. Sadly, QB Tony Romo could not hit Williams in the end zone either time. He finished with one catch for 21 yards.
Analysis: It was nice to see Williams get quality targets on Sunday. It will be vital for him to build rapport with QB Tony Romo as WR Dez Bryant is out with an ankle injury. Williams is not only competing with Bryant, but Patrick Crayton as well for targets behind WR Miles Austin and TE Jason Witten. Williams has been a bust since coming to Dallas in a trade with Detroit, but he did have seven touchdowns in 2009. Williams is the 139th most drafted player in CBSSports.com Fantasy leagues and should be looked at as a late-round Fantasy option.
News: Much has been made of chemistry issues between Dallas WR Roy Williams and QB Tony Romo. "I think we're doing great," Romo said. "Roy is coming out and had really good practices. I think we're working together better than ever. He'll be fine."
Analysis: Williams will benefit with rookie WR Dez Bryant (ankle) out for most of training camp. We still like Williams as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR. He should be able to play better than he has the past two years in Dallas, especially with the motivation of Bryant now being in town. Plan on drafting Williams with a late-round pick.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams told a local radio station in Dallas that his time with the Cowboys so far has been a nightmare. "I mean by my performance," Williams said. "I'm not blaming the quarterback, I'm not blaming the system; I'm just putting it all on me. I haven't played the last two years up to my standards so hopefully this year, we can get it in and it can go back to being my dream come true." But, Williams said, he still considers himself the No. 1 WR for the Cowboys even with Miles Austin on the team and the addition of rookie Dez Bryant. "I've always been the No. 1 guy wherever I go, and I'm still going to continue to be that," Williams said. "I know Miles showed what he can do last year, and I hope Dez comes in and wants to be the No. 1 receiver. I know Miles wants to the No. 1 guy, and that's what this competition thing is all about. If you don't feel like you're the No. 1 guy, you need to retire."
Analysis: Williams is still expected to play a prominent role in the Dallas offense this year, but the addition of Bryant will lower his value. We view Williams as a reserve Fantasy option, and he should only be drafted with a late-round pick. Continue to monitor what happens in training camp to make sure Williams will remain a starter ahead of Bryant.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams is obviously motivated by rookie Dez Bryant, and he played that way during Monday's OTA workout. Williams impressed Dallas CB Mike Jenkins and all in attendance. "Roy came out on fire today," Jenkins said. "That's the best I've seen Roy since he got here. He looked like a No. 1 receiver." Williams has said he intended to keep his starting job. He punctuated his comments by saying he's a bad man and there "ain't no such thing" as him sitting on the bench. But Williams also has spent time working with Bryant to make him feel comfortable. "He told me if I need anything, don't hesitate to ask," Bryant said. "He'll help me. I feel like Roy and I have a great relationship. For him to say that made my day a lot better. Like I told him, I look up to guys like him."
Analysis: This is high praise for Williams, who appears to be in trouble with Bryant joining the team. But Williams could use the presence of Bryant as motivation for a good season. We still like Williams as a No. 4 Fantasy WR, but if he continues to play this well in practice, it could carry over to the start of the season and his value will rise. Plan on drafting Williams with a late-round pick in all leagues this year.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams said Wednesday he plans to start in 2010 even with the addition of rookie WR Dez Bryant. "I don't see it as a competition thing," Williams said. "I see it as us getting better. I know in the back of my mind and the back of his mind he wants to play and the only way he's going to play is to get No. 11 off the field. It's going to be tough to do, but it's going to make us better as a football team." Williams said he's been working hard this offseason, including catching 40-50 passes a week in the throwing sessions with Tony Romo. In fact, he guaranteed he "won't even come close" to dropping half of as many passes as he had last season. Williams wants to improve from 2009 when he caught just 38 passes for 586 yards with seven touchdowns. "It's been pretty good," Williams said of his work with Romo. "Lot different than last year as far as completion percentage between me and Tony, so it's been good."
Analysis: It's a good sign that Williams and Romo are working together already this offseason. Williams is still expected to play a prominent role in the Dallas offense this year, but the addition of Bryant will lower his value. We view Williams as a reserve Fantasy option, and he should only be drafted with a late-round pick. Continue to monitor what happens in training camp to make sure Williams will remain a starter ahead of Bryant.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys have no plans to cut WR Roy E. Williams this year despite drafting rookie Dez Bryant. The paper reports Dallas owner Jerry Jones already gave Williams a $9 million roster bonus and wants him to earn some of it instead of paying him to make plays for another team. The story says next season Jones will probably cut Williams.
Analysis: Williams is still expected to play a prominent role in the Dallas offense this year, but the addition of Bryant will lower his value. We view Williams as a reserve Fantasy option, and he should only be drafted with a late-round pick.
News: Once Dez Bryant was within reach, the Cowboys made sure they grabbed him. Just three spots from taking him at No. 27, the Cowboys made a deal with New England to snag the Oklahoma State receiver with top-15 talent but questions about his character. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Bryant was an All-American in 2008 when he turned 87 receptions into 1,480 yards and 19 touchdowns. His stock slid after his suspension for lying to the NCAA about his activities with former NFL standout Deion Sanders, a suspension that kept him off the field nearly all of last season. There were other questions about him, such as being late to meetings and even games. Nobody questions his skills. Bryant's arrival means quarterback Tony Romo has another potentially dynamic receiver to go with returning Pro Bowler Miles Austin. It also likely means a lesser role for Roy Williams, who has been pretty much a bust since Dallas gave up several draft picks and a $45 million extension to get him from Detroit midway through the 2008 season. Jones insisted this pick was "more about what Bryant is than what Roy isn't" and affirmed he wasn't going to let go of Williams.
Analysis: Obviously, Williams needs to improve his play to stay on the field and keep Bryant in a reserve role. Williams seems more like a reserve Fantasy WR than anything else right now, especially with Bryant joining the Cowboys' crowded receiving corps. He is worth a late-round pick, and hopefully he can hold off Bryant long enough to make plays for your Fantasy team this year. But this is definitely a message to Williams that he needs to play at a high level after struggling since coming to Dallas from Detroit.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams posted a goose egg in Week 17 against the Eagles as he failed to stat. Williams was targeted only once in the game. It was the second time this season he failed to stat and Williams finished the season with only three catches in his last three games.
Analysis: The Cowboys paid a hefty price to get Williams to Big D last season, but to say he has failed to meet expectations would be an understatement. He has dropped a ton of passes and his confidence seems shot as well. He finished the season with 38 catches for 596 yards. The only bright spot is that he had seven touchdowns. Williams will likely be back in Dallas in 2010 whether the Cowboys want it or not. Still, Williams will be at best a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option.
News: Cowyboys WR Roy Williams has been confident and upbeat in interviews every week, no matter how much he's struggled on the field - and he's struggled plenty, catching only 38 passes for 596 yards when he was supposed to be Tony Romo's No. 1 target. The last two games, Williams has dropped key passes that hit him in the hands. The latest one came shortly before halftime, with no defender anywhere near him, and he didn't have another ball come his way the rest of the game. He worked after practice Wednesday to improve and says he's driven but he fear of playing on special teams and not offense. "My mom told me that they said on TV that I lead the league in drops," Williams said. "I would bet a whole game check, my whole signing bonus, that my name would never be in that sentence ever, and it is this year. I can't take anything for granted, I can't take my hands for granted. I have to look the ball in and do the things I am supposed to do and that I know how to do and once that starts going then it will just be a snowball effect. ... I'm going back to catching the ball after practice, make sure these hands get right, cut my fingernails. I've got to do something to get this back on track, do something."
Analysis: Williams will have a shot to do well in Week 17 against an Eagles secondary that has done a good job against No. 1 receivers but not No. 2 receivers. To wit, Jabar Gaffney had two touchdowns last week on them and Josh Morgan had a touchdown the week before. Williams had 75 yards on five catches at Philly earlier this season, so chances are he'll have a shot at collecting some passes. Get him active as a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 17.
News: In the Cowboys' Week 16 win at the Redskins, WR Roy Williams caught one pass, but it was good for a 4-yard touchdown.
Analysis: Williams and the Cowboys find themselves in a meaningful Week 17 game against the Eagles at home -- the winner will be the NFC East division winner and land a home game in the playoffs (potentially against the loser of the game). Williams should post a much higher yardage total in the upcoming game as he had 75 yards on five catches in the previous 2009 meeting with the Eagles. Consider Williams a solid No. 3 WR option if only because we're reasonably sure he'll play the whole game.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams made one 14-yard catch in a Week 15 win over New Orleans.
Analysis: Williams' numbers have been all over the place this season and he's just too risky of a Fantasy option to be worth using in anything but deeper leagues as a low-end flex option. You should avoid him if you can in Week 16 at Washington.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams totaled four catches for 74 yards during a Week 14 loss to the Chargers. He was targeted eight times in the game and had a long reception of 25 yards. However, it was the first time in three games Williams failed to score.
Analysis: Williams has five touchdowns in his last seven games and has really come on as of late for the Cowboys and Fantasy owners. It seems QB Tony Romo is getting comfortable throwing Williams' way. Still, he is more of a No. 3 Fantasy WR heading into Week 15 against the Saints.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams had six catches for 60 yards in Week 13 at the N.Y. Giants, including two touchdown passes. He has scored touchdowns in back-to-back games for the first time this season and has four touchdowns in his last four games.
Analysis: Williams had a nice game, but Miles Austin had a bigger game as did Jason Witten on an afternoon when QB Tony Romo threw the ball 55 times. Williams has picked up his production in recent games, but it still would appear that Williams is behind Austin and Witten in the pecking order of the pass offense. The way Romo has been chucking the ball around lately, however, that could still be enough to make Williams a viable No. 2 WR option in standard Fantasy formats. The Cowboys will face the Chargers in Week 14.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams only had two catches for 15 yards Thursday against Oakland, but he did score a touchdown. This was Williams' fourth touchdown of the season and third in his past five games.
Analysis: Williams continues to be an erratic Fantasy option. He should only be used as a No. 3 Fantasy WR because of his inconsistent play unless he can turn things around in the final five games of the season. The Cowboys play at the Giants in Week 13, so keep Williams reserved unless he's your only option next week as a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams caught a touchdown pass the last time he faced the Oakland Raiders, his Week 12 opponents on Thanksgiving. Of course, that TD reception came way back in 2007. The 2009 version of Williams hasn't been much to write home about and last week against Washington, Williams didn't make a single catch. He did go for 105 yards and a touchdown at Green Bay two weeks ago, however. Oakland has allowed just three passing touchdowns this season and is one of the better pass defenses in the NFL.
Analysis: The Cowboys are not going to spend much time throwing the football when they know they can rip huge chunks of yardage on the ground against the Raiders. This will limit Williams' value in Week 12. He's coming off a game in which he caught zero passes and was completely healthy. There is no many red flags in Williams' corner right now so only treat him as a No. 4 Fantasy option, at best.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams went without a catch in the Week 11 win over Washington. This comes just one game after he had his best game of the season in Week 10 at Green Bay.
Analysis: Williams caught five passes for 105 yards and his second touchdown in the Week 10 game against the Packers but went without a catch against the Redskins' top pass defense. He was really struggling before the Week 10 breakout game but we do think he'll be worthy of Fantasy use in Week 12 on Thanksgiving against the lowly Raiders. Oakland has a solid secondary so think of him as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR for the game. Consider other options first.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams had by far his best game of the season Week 10 at Green Bay. He topped the century mark for the first time, finishing with five catches for 105 yards. He also had the team's only touchdown, scoring on a 9-yard pass from Tony Romo in the fourth quarter. He did, however, lose a fumble.
Analysis: Williams had five catches for 75 yards last week. He had a combined six catches for 70 yards in his previous four games. The emergence of Miles Austin, who hasn't done much statistically over the last two weeks, has apparently freed up Williams to make big plays again. He's still the secondary option to Austin in Dallas, but he's worth using as a No. 2 Fantasy WR against the Redskins in Week 11.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams, who complained about his role in the offense earlier in the week, had five catches for 75 yards Sunday at the Eagles. This was the most catches and yards for Williams since Week 3 at Carolina, and Williams led the Cowboys in receiving yards Sunday.
Analysis: Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for Williams, and maybe now he and QB Tony Romo can get on the same page. Consider Williams a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 10 at Green Bay and hope for more outings like this.
News: This might remind you of a former Cowboys receiver, but current Dallas wideout Roy Williams told ESPN.com Wednesday that he not only cannot believe that he's not making any progress with Tony Romo after a full offseason of working together, but that he's still the Cowboys' No. 1 receiver. "It's just not even close," Williams said of the progression he's made with his quarterback. "It's not even funny. Not even close." Referring to Miles Austin, Williams also added: "I'm the No. 1 receiver but things are just going No. 2's way. ... He gets the ball thrown correctly his way. I'm stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody [else] who's been here's balls are there. Our footballs [from Romo to Williams] are everywhere right now."
Analysis: The stats certainly suggest there's a problem -- with Williams. He has 14 catches for 249 yards and two touchdowns while Austin has 26 catches for 563 yards and six scores. Although Williams did score in Week 8, he's not considered a strong Fantasy option in Week 9 at Philadelphia. Consider him a No. 4 option or a fair bye-week replacement at best. He hasn't had more than 75 yards receiving since Week 1.
News: Dallas WR Roy Williams scored his first touchdown since Week 1 when he had two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown Sunday against Seattle.
Analysis: Williams continues to struggle, and he was limited to nine Fantasy points in a standard-scoring league. Still, it's good to see him score and remain a part of the offense even though Miles Austin has clearly taken over as the No. 1 option in the passing game. But with the way Williams has looked for the majority of the year, consider Williams a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 9 at the Eagles.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams is happy to see fellow WR Miles Austin play well the past two games. Austin has 16 catches for 421 yards and four touchdowns the past two games against Kansas City and Atlanta. "Miles is having a heck of a run, we will just keep riding the wave," Williams said. Williams is hopeful Austin's success will open up coverage for him. "It's hard to tell where the ball is going in this offense," Williams said. "I just have to keep running routes and see what happens."
Analysis: We'll find out if Williams will start to play better since Austin could draw more attention, but Williams had just one catch for 16 yards against Atlanta last week. Keep an eye on Williams' production, but consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR at best against Seattle this week.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams, who missed the team's last game with a rib injury, caught a 16-yard pass against the Falcons in Week 7. Miles Austin, who broke out in his absence, caught six passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
Analysis: Williams wasn't a reliable Fantasy option even before the injury, catching no more than four passes in a game this season, but Austin has clearly leapfrogged him as the team's go-to receiver. As a secondary option, Williams is at best a No. 3 Fantasy WR for Week 8 against the Seahawks.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams, who practiced this week but still had pain from a rib injury, is active for Week 7 against the Falcons.
Analysis: Because of the pain, Williams might be in and out of the lineup all day. Miles Austin might be on the verge of taking over as the team's top receiver anyway, so think of Williams as no more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that just because WR Roy Williams has practiced this week doesn't mean he'll play. Head coach Wade Phillips has noticed that Williams remains in pain from his rib injury suffered in Week 4 and doesn't want to tax the team's high-priced receiver. "You can tell he's in pain sometimes during practice, catching the ball, those kinds of things," Phillips said. "I think it's lessened as the week has gone along, but we'll see where he is today."
Analysis: We might see only limited reps from Williams in Week 7 against the Falcons, especially if the coaching staff wants to preserve him for later in the year. He hasn't been a solid Fantasy option since Week 1, so owners of his should consider other options so long as they can help it. Miles Austin might be on the verge of taking the No. 1 WR mantle away from Williams anyway.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams practiced in full on Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for Week 7 against Atlanta. Williams injured his ribs Week 4 and missed Week 5. He used the bye week to get healthy. Williams has played four games against the Falcons in his career, the last coming last season. He has caught at least one touchdown pass in his last three against Atlanta.
Analysis: Williams has a great history against the Falcons so it seems like a perfect week to return to action for the receiver. He's underachieved thus far in Dallas but we like him as a No. 3 Fantasy option Week 7.
News: Dallas WR Roy Williams (ribs) returned to practice Monday after being out in Week 5. The Cowboys were on a bye in Week 6 and return in Week 7 against Atlanta. Williams was injured in Week 4 at Denver.
Analysis: It appears like Williams will return against the Falcons. Continue to monitor his status throughout the week and consider Williams a No. 3 Fantasy WR if he's able to play against Atlanta.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams was fine with not playing against the Chiefs in Week 5 but assured the media Monday that he will be ready to roll in Week 7. "It's cool, if you can't go, you can't go," Williams said about not being active for the game in Kansas City. "I will be ready to go against Atlanta."
Analysis: Williams watched teammate Miles Austin burn the Chiefs for 250 yards on 10 catches with two touchdowns, so he's probably ready to play just so he doesn't lose his spot as the Cowboys' top receiver. Austin's rise to prominence might cost Williams a couple of looks each week from Tony Romo, but he should continue to post at least nominal stats as a low-end No. 2/top-end No. 3 Fantasy WR going forward.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams has been listed as inactive for the team's Week 5 game against the Chiefs due to damaged cartilage to three of his ribs. He was listed as doubtful for the game.
Analysis: It's unfortunate that Williams is not able to go Week 5 as the Cowboys are facing the Chiefs' 28th-ranked pass defense in the league. Look for Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin to help fill in for Williams in Dallas, and consult your waiver wire for more options to replace the big-play receiver. When healthy, Williams is usually a good No. 2 Fantasy WR candidate.
News: Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips has all but ruled out WR Roy Williams from playing in Week 5 at Kansas City after he failed to practice for a third straight day Friday. Williams is nursing damaged cartilage to three of his ribs, an injury suffered late in Week 4 at Denver. He's officially listed as doubtful, which confirms that he's a longshot to play.
Analysis: Williams won't be officially ruled out until Sunday, but it is expected that he will not play against the Chiefs and their 28th-ranked pass defense. Look for Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin to help fill in for Williams in Dallas, and consult your waiver wire for more options to replace the big-play receiver. When healthy, Williams is usually a good No. 2 Fantasy WR candidate.
News: Cowboys receiver Roy Williams sat out of practice Wednesday and Thursday because of a rib injury, putting his status for Week 5 at Kansas City into question. Williams has cartilage damage around three ribs from a hit he took late in a loss to Denver in Week 4. He said Wednesday he's hoping to play Sunday at Kansas City, although he is still in pain when doing things like getting in and out of a car or bed.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should monitor Williams' status for the next couple of days before making a decision on him. When healthy, he has the potential to be like a No. 2 Fantasy WR even though he's been playing more like a No. 3, but if his ribs limit him against the Chiefs then he should not be counted on. If you own Williams, consider putting together a backup plan just in case he misses the game. We should know more as the week progresses.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams, who injured his ribs in Week 4 at Denver, remains optimistic about playing Sunday at Kansas City. "Painful but good," Williams said Wednesday about his status. "I hope that I can play."
Analysis: Williams would be a solid Fantasy option if he was able to play against the Chiefs. Keep an eye on what happens with Williams and hope he gets close to 100 percent heading into Sunday's game at Kansas City.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys WR Roy Williams suffered damage to the cartilage for three ribs after taking a significant hit in the fourth quarter at Denver in Week 4. Head coach Wade Phillips said Williams' availability for Sunday's game at Kansas City is in question. "Never in my life have I been hit like that, from Pop Warner through my six years in the league," Williams said after the game to the Denver Post. "I'm 5,280 feet above sea level with asthma, so I was obviously hurting."
Analysis: Williams caught three passes for only 35 yards in the game against the Broncos. He certainly hasn't lived up to expectations in Dallas but would have a good matchup against the Chiefs if healthy. We'll continue to monitor Williams' status throughout the week and deliver the latest when we get it.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams, who had four catches for 75 yards in Week 3, wasn't as much of a factor Week 4 at Denver. He caught three passes for only 35 yards.
Analysis: Williams has topped 70 yards twice and fallen short of 40 twice, but he has yet to grab more than four passes in a game. He's certainly a useful Fantasy WR, but he's not playing like a No. 1. Until he becomes a more consistent target, treat him as a No. 2 or 3. He has a good matchup Week 5 at Kansas City, though.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams made some big plays down the stretch for the Cowboys in a Monday night win over the Panthers. Williams finished with four catches for 75 yards to finish second in receiving behind Jason Witten in the win. Williams could have amassed more yardage and was also missed in the end zone by Romo.
Analysis: Williams has eight catches on the season for 179 yards and a touchdown but really hasn't been the top Fantasy option we'd have hoped teaming up with Romo. He was not a factor in the team's Week 2 loss to the Giants with just one catch for 18 yards and is far from the Fantasy option he once was with the Lions of all teams. Still, he's owned in 100 percent of leagues and has enough upside and the track record to go with as a No. 2 or 3 receiver Week 4 at Denver. Consider the Broncos have yet to allow a passing touchdown, however.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams will face a non-division opponent in Week 3 vs. Carolina. He has never faced the Panthers during the regular season in his career. The Panthers have allowed the third fewest passing yards in the NFL through the first two weeks of the season, giving up 302 yards in two games.
Analysis: The Panthers have not given up a ton of yardage through the air, however, they have allowed five touchdown passes. Williams has just four catches in the first two games of the season and had it not been for his 66-yard touchdown in Week 1 at Tampa Bay, he'd have just 38 yards combined in the two games. He was not a factor in the team's Week 2 loss to the Giants with just one catch for 18 yards and is far from the Fantasy option he once was with the Lions of all teams. He is owned in 100 percent of leagues, but Fantasy owners have to start thinking of him as a player to be reserved until he can get on the same page with Tony Romo. He has enough upside and the track record to go with as a No. 2 or 3 receiver, but Fantasy owners are hoping to get production that has not been there from him since he joined the Cowboys last season.
News: In his home debut at Cowboys Stadium, Dallas native and star receiver Roy Williams managed just one reception for 18 yards against the Giants. He was thrown at just four times, including once on a fly pattern into the end zone that he couldn't come up with.
Analysis: Williams' performance here was underwhelming and miserable compared to how he did a week earlier in Tampa Bay. Look for a bounce-back game in Week 3 vs. Carolina as the Cowboys will surely realize that four passes his way simply aren't enough. Consider Williams at least a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR for his upcoming game.
News: The Cowboys will face a division opponent in Week 2 against the Giants. In two games against the Giants last season, Williams caught just two passes for 33 yards.
Analysis: The Giants allowed 187 net passing yards in Week 1 against Washington. Despite a poor recent history for Williams against the Giants, he is in a much different situation heading into Week 2 as Roy Williams' go-to wideout. He scored on a long touchdown catch-and-run in Week 1 at Tampa Bay and is a player we recommend starting in most scenarios for Week 2.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams streaked through a mistake-prone secondary on a 66-yard touchdown play early in the third quarter of Week 1's 34-21 win against the Bucs. It was Williams' first catch since hauling in two passes on the team's opening drive in the first quarter. Williams, who was targeted seven times, finished with three catches for 86 yards.
Analysis: Williams is expected to be Dallas' go-to-receiver now that Terrell Owens is in Buffalo. Williams definitely met the challenge in Week 1 and will look to build off his momentum heading into Week 2 against the Giants. Consider Williams a decent No. 2 or No. 3 Fantasy WR. He had two catches for 33 yards in two games against the Giants last season.
News:Roy E. Williams and the Dallas Cowboys will face a non-division opponent in Week 1 when they travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers. The Bucs finished with the fourth-ranked pass defense in the NFL last season, allowing 182.1 yards per game and 19 touchdowns.
Analysis: Last year, Williams had just two catches for 10 yards against the Buccaneers, but he did score a touchdown in that game. The Cowboys will be looking to him as their No. 1 receiver this year with Terrell Owens now in Buffalo and they will likely be looking to get him involved early against the Bucs. We consider him a solid play in any format this week.
News: Cowboys coach Wade Phillips was pleased with the way that WR Roy Williams moved around in practice Tuesday despite his shoulder being sore. Williams is wearing extra padding underneath his regular shoulder pads for protection. Williams has already been ruled out for the preseason finale against Minnesota.
Analysis: This is a good sign that Williams is making progress. Williams is flying off draft boards as a No. 2 Fantasy WR in Rounds 4 through 6 and it would appear -- for now -- that it is still safe to target him there.
News: The San Antonio Express-News reports that Roy Williams (shoulder) is expected to practice all week, but he will sit out the team's preseason finale against Minnesota as a precaution.
Analysis: The Cowboys would not want to risk any sort of a setback in a meaningless preseason game, but Williams has not gotten a chance to mesh with QB Tony Romo so far in the preseason. That could lead to a slow start, but Williams remains a viable No. 2 receiver in Fantasy.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams sat out Saturday's preseason game vs. the 49ers as expected with a shoulder problem. The Dallas Morning News reports coach Wade Phillips said he was optimistic Williams' bruised shoulder will be better sooner rather than later. "Roy said he was OK," Phillips said. "I don't know for sure, but I think he probably could have played."
Analysis: It is very likely that Williams won't play in the remainder of the preseason in order to get him as healthy as possible for Week 1. Williams is flying off draft boards as a No. 2 Fantasy WR in Rounds 4 through 6 and it would appear -- for now -- that it is still safe to target him there.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that the official diagnosis on Roy E. Williams is that he has a contusion on his left shoulder, and X-rays Friday morning revealed no fracture. He will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. During an appearance on a Dallas radio station, Jerry Jones did not commit to a timetable for Williams' return but strongly hinted the receiver would be available for the Sept. 13 season opener. "I'm not implying that we have a long-winded thing here," said Jones, who stated that the Cowboys will not consider signing a veteran receiver. "Based on our review here, we're talking about a very short timespan. I don't know that he'll go Saturday ... but he'll be out there real quick."
Analysis: There you have it, right out of the owner's mouth. If the Cowboys don't feel the need to gear up for a long absence, neither should Fantasy owners. However, this is obviously something that you will want to monitor. It is very likely that Williams won't play in the remainder of the preseason in order to get him as healthy as possible for Week 1. Williams is flying off draft boards as a No. 2 Fantasy WR in Rounds 4 through 6 and it would appear -- for now -- that it is still safe to target him there.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that x-rays on the injured shoulder of Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams did not reveal a broken bone. Williams' suffered a sprained left shoulder when he collided with Orlando Scandrick near the end of Thursday night's open practice.
Analysis: The Cowboys are expected to re-evaluate Williams soon and there is currently no timetable for his return. However, it is very likely that he won't play in the remainder of the preseason in order to get him as healthy as possible for Week 1. This is a development Fantasy owners need to watch since Williams is flying off draft boards as a No. 2 Fantasy WR in Rounds 4 through 6. Be aware that if you draft him, you might be without him for a week or two, and he might not be at 100 percent upon his initial return.
News: X-rays on Cowboys receiver Roy Williams' left collarbone were negative, and the Dallas Morning News reports that a sprained shoulder will sideline the star receiver for an undetermined amount of time. An MRI is still scheduled for Friday after Williams got hurt in a goal-line collision with CB Orlando Scandrick during an intrasquad scrimmage. Williams is expected to be the feature player at wide receiver for Dallas, leading a group that also includes Patrick Crayton, Miles Austin and Sam Hurd.
Analysis: Williams, who came to the Cowboys in a 2008 midseason trade, is expected to take the place of Terrell Owens as Dallas' feature wide receiver. However, it seems this injury could alter those plans for at least the start of the regular season. We saw receivers Derrick Mason and Chad Ochocinco play with shoulder injuries last season; Mason turned in a decent year while Ochocinco was way off of his normal totals. This is a development Fantasy owners need to watch since Williams is flying off draft boards as a No. 2 Fantasy WR in Rounds 4 through 6. Be aware that if you draft him, you might be without him for a week or two, and he might not be at 100 percent upon his initial return.
News: Roy Williams says he appreciates all the criticism and questions, especially from those who have wondered out loud if Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made the right move acquiring him to be Dallas' lead receiver. "When I have guys, especially NFL greats and the greatest that played here in Dallas, saying that I can't get the job done and I'm not a No. 1, it makes me feel good," Williams said. "It makes me want to go out there and prove not only to them but everybody else across the world who listens to those guys, because obviously everybody thinks they know it all, that I can do my job." Williams caught five passes for 36 yards in the preseason home opener Friday night.
Analysis: Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders and Darren Woodson, all former Cowboys stars, have openly questioned Williams' ability to handle the role as the No. 1 receiver in Dallas this season. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave up four draft picks, including first- and third-rounders this year, to get Williams from the Detroit Lions midway through last season. Then Williams got a $45 million, five-year extension through the 2013 season before even catching his first pass from Tony Romo. With Terrell Owens cut by Dallas during the offseason and Williams getting more comfortable in his connection with Romo - such as one play in practice this week that Williams said "just clicked and looked real pretty on film" - now is the chance for the new No. 1 receiver to start providing an answer. Playing with a chip on his shoulder could also be a very good thing for Fantasy owners. We see him as a solid No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 6 in drafts.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams (wrist) was able to play in Friday's preseason game against the Titans. He made five catches in the game, gaining 36 yards with a long of 11. Williams sprained his wrist on Sunday but was able to practice this week.
Analysis: Williams should be good to go for the start of the season, as he was able to play in Friday's game. Hopefully he will build a solid rapport with QB Tony Romo and put up some decent numbers in the preseason. We see him as a solid No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 6 in drafts.
News: Cowboys receiver Roy Williams returned to practice Monday with his sprained left wrist protectively taped. Williams was first in line to catch passes from Tony Romo when the offense started its warmup session. After coming down hard on his wrist in the first workout Sunday, Williams missed the afternoon session while having X-rays that were negative.
Analysis: Williams appears to be fine for the start of the regular season, which is what matters at this point. We should see him in a couple of preseason games too, and would especially like to see him continue developing rapport with Romo. We view Williams as a solid No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 6 in drafts.
News: Cowboys receiver Roy E. Williams missed the team's second practice Sunday because of a sprained left wrist sustained when he came down hard earlier in the day. The Cowboys said X-rays were negative and that Williams, expected to be the team's No. 1 receiver after the departure of Terrell Owens, is day to day. The Cowboys have one practice session Monday. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Williams got hurt during the morning practice, and that the concern was that the wrist was still so sore when he returned for the afternoon session. That is when the Cowboys sent Williams for tests. When Jones cut Owens last spring, the path was cleared for Williams to become quarterback Tony Romo's top target. "I'm particularly pleased with how focused Roy is, and how conditioned he is," Jones said. "He's having a good camp."
Analysis: Williams arrived from winless Detroit in mid-October and got a $45 million, five-year contract extension right after Romo sustained a broken pinkie on his throwing hand and missed three games. Williams was then bothered by a foot problem later in the season, plus T.O. was still there. Williams and Romo started working together several weeks before summer practices, then had OTAs and a mandatory minicamp. And they have been coming together during training camp. Romo said he wasn't concerned that the injury would stunt their progress. "Nah, that's part of training camp, little nicks here and there," Romo said. "He's worked his butt off. If anything, it will help him have fresh legs." Williams caught only 16 passes for 160 yards and no touchdowns in seven games with Romo last season. The lone touchdown pass Williams caught for Dallas was thrown by Brad Johnson during his first two games, when Romo was injured. We view Williams as a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a mid-round pick. It looks as though he dodged a serious bullet, but stay tuned to his progress in case he suffers a setback.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams, who struggled after coming over from Detroit during last season, will be counted on heavily this season to replace the departed Terrell Owens. He caught one pass from QB Tony Romo for 12 yards in Thursday's preseason opener at Oakland. "If we execute like that, any team is going to have trouble," Williams said. "But we're going to have our adversity and have our hard times where we can't get open or the quarterback gets sacked or a bad throw. But tonight it all fell into place."
Analysis: This could be a big year for Williams now that he's in Dallas and Owens is gone. Williams was a disappointment last year after coming over in trade from Detroit, but he should bounce back as a No. 2 Fantasy WR this year. He's worth a mid-round pick in all leagues beginning in Round 5.
News:Tony Romo and Roy Williams had easily their best day of training camp Wednesday, a week after the Dallas Cowboys starting practicing at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Coach Wade Phillips says it takes time for a quarterback and receiver to get in synch. Although the star quarterback and his new No. 1 receiver threw together during the summer, Phillips said it's different now that they're wearing pads and facing a defense. Their timing was excellent in their last two practices and it's clear they're starting to get on the same page. Williams caught only 19 passes in 10 games last year after being acquired from Detroit.
Analysis: Excellent news for Williams, who will fill the Cowboys' role as the No. 1 receiver this season. He's always been a bit of an underachiever in Fantasy, but there's nothing stopping him from being a star this season. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 5.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams is looking forward to this season and knows what he's capable. He addressed the media Wednesday knowing full well he was going to be asked about Terrell Owens. "Everybody wants me to fill the hole of T.O., which I can do," Williams said. "It's not about my performance; it's about winning ball games." Williams said he worked out hard this offseason and comes into training camp at 209 pounds, which is what he weighed in college. He said he's not worried about expectations. "I'm just doing my job, that's all I can do," Williams said. "I'm a role player and my role is to catch the football."
Analysis: Williams is more than a role player. He has to be the best WR for the Cowboys this season now that Owens is gone. We think Williams will fill that role, and he should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy QB. He's worth drafting with a mid-round pick in all leagues beginning in Round 5.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys WR Roy Williams is excited to be the No. 1 WR in the offense now that Terrell Owens is gone. "I feel like I can do it all," Williams said. "If I'm coached to do it the right way, I can do it. Just tell me what to do and I can do it, coach. Because, once again, I am a coachable wide receiver who does what he's coached to do." Williams also wants to show QB Tony Romo that he can trust Williams. "Just catch the ball when he throws it to me, any way I can," Williams said. "And buddy him up -- bring him some food, let him borrow some money if he needs some, just be his best friend. I've just got to continue to be his best friend. Put my arm around him and hug him, tell him that his girlfriend looks good, and we'll go from there."
News: The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys WR Roy Williams is excited for a full offseason in Dallas after joining the team during the year last season after a trade from Detroit. Williams has big shoes to fill this year as he replaces the departed Terrell Owens, and Williams has worked well so far with QB Tony Romo. "He finally gets to see me, see what I can do, instead of not looking for me because he doesn't trust me," Williams said. "That's where that trust comes in. We're getting there. I'm not saying it's all the way there. He's still learning me and I'm still learning him. It's a long journey." Williams caught 19 passes for 198 yards and one touchdown with the Cowboys in 10 games. Romo praised Williams for his hard work and route running after the team's first OTA last week. Coach Wade Phillips agrees. "I don't know what other people think or what they are saying, but the guy's got all the talent in the world, and he wants to do it, so I think he's going to really do well for us," Phillips said. "I don't have any doubt that he can play and be a big-time player. He's already done that."
Analysis: We think Williams should do fine in Dallas now that Owens is gone, and he can step up and play his more natural spot. Consider Williams a No. 2 Fantasy WR this year and look to draft him around Round 5 or 6 in all leagues.
News: According to the team web site, Dallas WR Roy Williams wants to lose weight and play this season at 212 pounds. Williams said Tuesday he plans on dropping about six pounds from his current weight of 218, where he played last season.
Analysis: Hopefully the weight loss will allow Williams to make more plays, which is all that really matters. He has a chance to play big for the Cowboys this year as a replacement for Terrell Owens. Williams was a disappointment once coming to Dallas in a trade from Detroit, but we like Williams this year as a No. 2 Fantasy WR if he can connect with QB Tony Romo right away.
News: At a recent charity event for Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin, Hall of Fame WR Michael Irvin told CBSSports.com that Dallas WR Roy Williams needs to have a big year for the Cowboys. Irvin, a former Cowboys WR, said the team is counting on Williams to replace Terrell Owens, and Irvin said Williams is capable of having a big year. "I hope good for his sake because after getting rid of T.O. there will be some questions on him," Irvin said of the year Williams could have. "Everybody will be watching, and I hope he plays well. T.O. gave you a lot of production, and somebody has to replace those points."
Analysis: Williams has the chance to play well for the Cowboys. He struggled when he was traded from Detroit to Dallas because he was out of position thanks to Owens. But with Owens gone, Williams will be asked to do more, and Fantasy owners can count on him to step up. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 5 and 6.
News: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told KRLD-FM in Dallas that a key reason for the club's release of Terrell Owens was because WR Roy Williams is the player they want to run the passing game through. "I had to look at Roy Williams and the future that we have with Roy," Jones said via the Dallas Morning News. "I'm excited about Roy, so I'd rather have him than the [three] picks we gave up for him in this draft."
Analysis: Last year, Williams was overshadowed by Owens in half of a season with the Cowboys and had a hard time learning their offense, ultimately ending up with 232 yards on 17 catches (13.6 avg.) with one touchdown. Now, the Cowboys will lean heavily on Williams to be a vertical threat in their offense. While he's faster than Owens and has better hands, he doesn't have the physical makeup of Owens and could struggle to score as regularly, especially in the red zone. Williams has 1,000-yard, eight touchdown potential, but he'd have to overachieve a little bit to get there. Nonetheless, he's going to get a lot of stats, and if he comes up just short of those totals in 2009, he'll still be a solid Fantasy starter. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 5 and 6.
News: The Cowboys have released WR Terrell Owens. That ends his three-year tenure with the club while putting WR Roy Williams in position to be the team's new No. 1 receiver. Last year, Williams was overshadowed by Owens in half of a season with the Cowboys and had a hard time learning their offense, ultimately ending up with 232 yards on 17 catches (13.6 avg.) with one touchdown.
Analysis: The Cowboys will lean heavily on Williams to be a vertical threat in their offense.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams capped a disappointing 2008 season with just two catches for four yards during a Week 17 loss to the Eagles. Since being acquired in a trade with Detroit, Williams caught just 19 passes for 198 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Dallas shipped the farm to Detroit in exchange for Williams and what they got was a dud return. It wasn't all his fault since QB Tony Romo hardly looked his way in key situations. Williams should be back in Dallas in 2009, but his days as a No. 1 Fantasy WR seem in the past. Consider Williams at best a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Acquired at the trade deadline to draw coverage from Terrell Owens, Detroit WR Roy Williams has yet to catch more than three passes in a game. He has only 14 receptions over the six games he's played with Dallas QB Tony Romo. Time is running out for Williams and Romo to start clicking. If the Cowboys lose to the Eagles on Sunday, their season is over. Williams is listed as probable for Week 17 at Philadelphia, a game that the Cowboys will be hoping to see more production out of the receiver.
Analysis: In his nine games with the Cowboys, Williams has 194 yards receiving. The last time he played in Philadelphia with the Lions, he had 204 yards receiving. So maybe a return to Philadelphia is just what Williams needs to finally become a vital part of the Dallas offense. Still, he's a risky start Week 17 and not recommended.
News: WR Roy Williams practiced in full Wednesday with a foot injury. He is expected to play against the Eagles in Philly in Week 17. Teammate Terrell Owens made a public plea for his teammate to get more passes thrown his way (and not T.O.'s way). "If you bring a guy over here and you pay him that much money, you want [him] to be involved," T.O. told the Dallas Morning News. "He has a lot of talent. Otherwise, he wouldn't be here. I'm not saying that in a negative way. I'm saying that because I know he can help the team. Once we figure out a way we can get him more involved and he can help this offense, the better off we'll be."
Analysis: Williams really isn't making a difference for Fantasy owners since coming to Dallas. He should not be used against Philadelphia on Sunday because of how tough the Eagles defense is against the pass and because of how little he has been thrown to recently. Look for him to greatly improve in 2009.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams couldn't help the Cowboys win in their final game at Texas Stadium on Saturday night against the Ravens. Williams caught three passes for 12 yards in the game. His long went for eight yards.
Analysis: Williams has done absolutely nothing since coming to Dallas and is really not worth using in Fantasy at this point. The Cowboys play at Philadelphia's tough defense in Week 17 and we do not recommend the former Lion.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams (foot) is fine to start in Week 16's Saturday night affair against the Baltimore Ravens to close Texas Stadium.
Analysis: Williams has been mired in a cold snap for a while now, and is not a reliable Fantasy receiver for Week 16 against the staunch Ravens defense. Leave him on the bench this week if you can go with someone else.
News: WR Roy Williams was able to practice in full on Friday and was listed as probable for Week 16 against the Ravens. Williams was also able to go all out in practice on Thursday. Expect him to start against the Ravens.
Analysis: Williams has been mired in a cold snap for a while now, and is not a reliable Fantasy receiver for Week 16 against the staunch Ravens defense. Leave him on the bench this week if you can go with someone else.
News: WR Roy Williams was limited in practice Wednesday with a foot injury. He is listed as questionable for Week 16 against the Ravens.
Analysis: Williams had only one catch for five yards last week and he really isn't making a difference for Fantasy owners since coming to Dallas. He should not be used against Baltimore on Saturday because of how tough the Ravens defense is and how little he has been thrown to recently.
News: Dallas WR Roy Williams had one catch for 5 yards Sunday against the Giants. The closest he came to scoring was on a two-point conversion attempt, which sailed over his head.
Analysis: Williams, who was dealing with a foot problem prior to the game, now has just 15 catches in his past seven games. He has become a non-factor for Fantasy owners. Don't plan on using him in Week 16 against Baltimore on Saturday night.
News: According to The Dallas Morning News WR Roy Williams did not practice Friday and struggled to move around at times because of his foot injury. The veteran did not practice all week, but he said he'll be ready by game time.
Analysis: Williams hasn't had more than three catches in his last eight games and is just not the deep threat he once was with the Lions. Williams is a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 15 against the Giants. He had one catch for 28 yards in his first showdown with New York. The foot injury may be slowing him down, but not necessarily the reason for his poor performances recently.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams did not practice on Thursday (foot) and probably won't practice all week leading up to Week 15's game on Sunday night at home against the Giants, reports the Dallas Morning News. Williams, however, is expected to play in the game.

Williams is a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 15 against the Giants. He had one catch for 28 yards in his first showdown with New York. News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams did not practice on Wednesday with a foot injury. Williams hauled in just two passes for 16 yards during a Week 14 loss to the Steelers. His longest catch went 10 yards and was targeted six times in the game.

Analysis: Williams came limping into the game with a foot injury, but that's not why he performed poorly against the Steelers. He hasn't had more than three catches in his last eight games and is just not the deep threat he once was with the Lions. Williams is a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 15 against the Giants. He had one catch for 28 yards in his first showdown with New York.
News: Cowboys WR Roy E. Williams (foot) is active and starting Week 14 against the Steelers. He came into the game as probable despite not practicing on Friday.
Analysis: Williams and the Cowboys have a tough matchup in Week 14 at Pittsburgh. The Steelers are No. 1 in pass defense with only 10 passing touchdowns allowed and have yet to allow a 300-yard passing game. Williams hasn't really developed solid rapport yet with QB Tony Romo, so he remains a low-end Fantasy WR Week 14.
News: Cowboys RB Roy Williams is listed as probable for Week 14 at Pittsburgh. Williams and the Cowboys have a tough matchup in Week 14 at Pittsburgh. The Steelers are No. 1 in pass defense with only 10 passing touchdowns allowed and have yet to allow a 300-yard passing game. San Diego's Philip Rivers had been leading the NFL in passer rating (106.4) before posting a 43.6 rating against Pittsburgh in Week 11. Washington's Jason Campbell did not throw an interception in his first eight games, but the Steelers picked him off twice. New England's Matt Cassel had posted back-to-back 400-yard passing games heading into Sunday's game vs. Pittsburgh, but he threw for 169 yards, was intercepted twice and sacked twice vs. the Steelers.
Analysis: Last week, Williams had his best week as a Cowboy against the Seahawks on Thanksgiving but draws a much tougher matchup this week against Pittsburgh. For this game, he is a low-end No. 3 WR with obvious upside.

Analysis: Williams is coming off his best game with Dallas last week against Seattle on Thanksgiving, but now he has a tough matchup against the Steelers. Go into this game with Williams as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy option and hope he can do some damage against the Steelers.
News: Dallas WR Roy Williams had his best game since joining the Cowboys in a midseason trade from Detroit with one carry for 13 yards and two catches for 51 yards against Seattle on Thursday.
Analysis: Look for Williams to build on this game, but continue to use him as a No. 3 Fantasy option, especially with a tough matchup in Week 14 at Pittsburgh.
News: In the Cowboys' 35-22 win vs. the 49ers in Week 12, WR Roy Williams watched teammate Terrell Owens catch seven passes for 213 yards with a touchdown. Williams used to occasionally post big numbers like this, but since he's arrived in Dallas, he's become much more of a complementary player. Williams totaled 36 yards on three catches Sunday, his best game yardage-wise since becoming a Cowboy in October.
Analysis: Eventually, Williams will be a more consistent part of the Dallas offense, but it's clear that he's a secondary or even a third option for QB Tony Romo. That said, he and the 'Boys face off against a suspect Seattle secondary in Week 13 on Thanksgiving, and Williams grew up watching Dallas play on Thanksgiving and will likely give as good of an effort as he can in the game. Consider Williams a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR with some upside for his next contest.
News: In the Cowboys' 14-10 win at the Redskins in Week 11, WR Roy Williams caught three passes for 36 yards in his first game operating with Tony Romo at quarterback. Some may say this was a successful outing for Williams considering his three previous games for the Cowboys resulted in three total catches for 38 yards, albeit with a touchdown.
Analysis: Williams still has yet to make a big impact for the Cowboys since coming over to the club from the Lions in a deadline-day trade earlier this season. Williams spent the previous couple of weeks understanding the Cowboys' offense, and now he has to start getting used to catching passes from Tony Romo. We're also seeing the effects of Williams sharing the field with dynamic talents such as Terrell Owens, Jason Witten and Marion Barber. All that said, Williams and the Cowboys have a nice matchup at home vs. the 49ers in Week 12 and should capitalize on one of the NFC's suspect pass defenses. Williams is worth a look as at least a middle-end No. 3 Fantasy WR in the game.
News:Roy E. Williams stood at his locker wearing a hooded Texas Tech sweat shirt, the humbling payback of a lost bet for the newest Dallas Cowboys receiver and Texas alum. While Williams is already part of the good-natured ribbing that goes on between teammates in the locker room, the receiver hasn't yet made an impact on the field for the Cowboys. But he really hasn't had that opportunity since being traded from the winless Detroit Lions. "I felt like it was time when I first stepped foot in here," Williams said. "I think they are still trying to figure me out, trying to figure out what I can and can't do."
Analysis: The Cowboys acquired him to line up opposite Terrell Owens. They have already given Williams a $45 million, five-year contract extension with the expectation that he will eventually succeed T.O. as the No. 1 receiver and top target for Tony Romo. But a month after arriving, Williams has three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown in three games. And he hasn't caught a pass yet from Romo, who missed all of those games with a broken pinkie. There have been only seven passes thrown his way, and Williams has been on the field only for passing downs and inside the 20. That has frustrated Williams, who believes he could know his assignment on virtually any play after time to learn the Cowboys' offensive schemes. Romo returns to the lineup Sunday against the Redskins and Williams has been elevated to starter opposite T.O., making Patrick Crayton the No. 3 receiver. This is a good sign for Williams, who should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy option heading into Week 11 at Washington. Now that he's starting and has Romo back, he should start to improve his play and increase his Fantasy value.
News: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Cowboys WR Roy Williams has been elevated to starter and Patrick Crayton is the No. 3 receiver for Sunday's game at Washington. Williams has a better grasp of the playbook and is ready to be more fully integrated into the offense. Sunday will be his first game playing with QB Tony Romo. In three games with the Cowboys, Williams has three catches for 38 yards and one touchdown while playing with Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger.
Analysis: This is a good sign for Williams, who should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy option heading into Week 11 at Washington. Now that he's starting and has Romo back, he should start to improve his play and increase his Fantasy value.
News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams caught just one pass for 28 yards in Week 9 at the N.Y. Giants. He was targeted just twice in the game.
Analysis: Owens, like all Cowboys receivers on this day, was the victim of a bad situation with Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger facing a tough Giants defense that overmatched the Cowboys' offensive line all game. The Cowboys threw for just 134 yards in the game. Things should get better when the team returns from its by to face the Redskins in Week 11 in Washington. Tony Romo is expected to be back for that game. Williams hasn't had a chance to have him as a QB yet and the Cowboys will look to get Williams and Romo on the same page.
News: Dallas WR Roy E. Williams scored his first touchdown with the Cowboys on Sunday against Tampa Bay. Williams finished with two catches for 10 yards and scored on a fade route in the end zone.
Analysis: Williams is still learning the playbook for the Cowboys, but he's capable of plays like this. Continue to start him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 9 at the Giants.
News: In his new team's 34-14 loss at St. Louis in Week 7, Dallas WR Roy Williams didn't record a single catch. He was thrown at only two times and split reps with Patrick Crayton. "This is my fifth year and this is my first time to not catch a ball," Williams said. "It's frustrating because I want to help this team win, and today I didn't do that." Williams also added that he struggled in his first game in his new offense. "It's football. I've got to learn (the offense)," he said. "I didn't have a training camp to learn it so I've got to learn it on the fly."
Analysis: We had a feeling that Williams wouldn't post big numbers in his first game with the Cowboys, but this was way below even our small expectations. Owners will be shaky to start Williams in Week 8 vs. Tampa Bay, but we think it will depend on who his quarterback will be. If Romo goes, Williams seems like a safe bet. If it's Johnson, there's more risk involved. We still feel like Williams won't post good numbers until Romo is healthy and back under center.
News: WR Roy Williams, traded from the Lions to the Cowboys on Tuesday, is expected to begin practicing with his new team on Wednesday and to play in its game Week 7 at St. Louis. Williams will line up opposite Terrell Owens in an offense that has not had a clear No. 2 receiver since waiving veteran Terry Glenn this summer. Williams also received a five-year contract extension from the Cowboys, taking him out of this offseason's free-agent market.
Analysis: Williams' Fantasy owners should eventually love his presence in Dallas, but he might need some time to adapt to the offense even if he plays right away. He also has to contend with Owens and Jason Witten, who will certainly garner their fair share of looks from backup QB Brad Johnson until starter Tony Romo returns in Week 11. You should probably keep Williams reserved in Fantasy for now, but expect to reap the rewards later this season.
News: It's official: The Lions have traded WR Roy Williams to the Cowboys for first-, third- and sixth-round picks in the 2009 NFL Draft. Both the Lions and Williams have been adamant, especially of late, that a trade wasn't coming, but the Cowboys have stepped up in an effort to improve their receiving corps. Williams will eventually join a talented and up-tempo offense that could use his help to draw coverage away from Terrell Owens.
Analysis: Williams' Fantasy owners should eventually love his presence in Dallas, but it's going to take some time for him to adapt to the offense there and be a regular weapon. Also hurting his case is sharing the field with Owens and tight end Jason Witten, who will certainly garner their fair share of looks from backup QB Brad Johnson until Week 11. Once the deal is official, expect Williams to not play a big role in Week 7 (if at all) but be fully up to speed around the time Tony Romo gets healthy in Week 11.
News: Lions interim general manager Martin Mayhew said he has initiated trade discussions with other teams, but did stress that, despite media reports, wide receiver Roy Williams is not on the block. "I've told Roy that we aren't shopping him, and Roy has told me that he wants to be here," he said. "We don't think it would better for our players or our team to make that kind of move." Williams has repeatedly said he wants to stay in Detroit.
Analysis: Williams was awful in Week 6 with Dan Orlovsky as his quarterback, and he might be there again for Williams in Week 7 when the Lions play at Houston. Don't count on Williams for a big game next week, just pencil him in as a No. 3 Fantasy WR, if at all.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught just two passes in Week 6 at Minnesota. His longest catch went for 17 yards. He was thrown to three times.
Analysis: Williams was not on the same page with first-time starter Dan Orlovsky much on Sunday and that may have resulted in his poor performance. Things should improve for him in Week 7 at Houston with either another week of practice along with Orlovsky or Jon Kitna back.
News:Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams will be both be active for Week 6 at Minnesota. Both had been listed as questionable on the injury report.
Analysis: Both receivers will have inexperienced QB Dan Orlovsky throwing them the ball, so their appeal in Fantasy is still a bit cloudy this week. However, if you were waiting to hear if they would play or not, here's your answer.

Analysis: Both receivers are expected to have inexperienced QB Dan Orlovsky throwing them the ball, so their appeal in Fantasy is still a bit cloudy this week. However, if you were waiting to hear if they would play or not, here's your answer.
News: Lions WRs Calvin Johnson (knee) and Roy Williams (hip) did not practice on Friday in preparation for Week 6 at Minnesota. They are both listed as questionable on the injury report, but Lions coach Rod Marinelli expects them to play. "I think they'll be fine," Marinelli said Friday. If they play, they'll be catching passes from backup QB Dan Orlovsky, who is expected to start in place of Jon Kitna, who is doubtful with a back injury.
Analysis: Reel in the expectations for Johnson and Williams -- and that's if they play at all. It wouldn't hurt to have a backup plan in place in the event that they cannot go on Sunday. We'll be first to know whether or not they'll be active this Sunday on Fantasy Football Today, 11 a.m. ET here on CBSSports.com, so tune in to find out their status.
News: Amidst rumors that the 49ers are interested in acquiring the services of Detroit WR Roy Williams, the Lions head into Week 6 in Minnesota. Williams caught 12 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown in two games against the Vikings last season. Minnesota has an amazing rush defense but the pass defense is among the league's bottom portion.
Analysis: Williams is coming off a 7-catch 96-yard effort last week against the Bears and has 15 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown this season. He's the No. 2 option on the team behind Calvin Johnson and deserves to be starting as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR in most leagues in Week 6. He is being slowed in practice by a hip injury, but Williams is expected to play Sunday.
News: The Dayton Daily News had a report that a league source said the 49ers have expressed some interest in acquiring Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh before the Week 7 trade deadline. The report added that Roy Williams is also allegedly on the 49ers' radar. Williams has familiarity with Mike Martz's offensive system and could seemingly adapt to the system quickly. Both players are scheduled to be free agents after the season.
Analysis: In San Francisco, Williams would likely post slightly better stats than we've seen from him so far this season since the offense there is better than the offense in Detroit. Before any deal for Williams would happen, the team getting him would likely want a long-term contract in place first. Unlike Major League Baseball and the NBA, trade-deadline deals don't happen much in the NFL, so a deal involving a player of this magnitude would be a surprise. We'll keep our ears pressed to the ground, but for now figure that Williams is a decent No. 2 WR worth using when he plays at Minnesota in Week 6.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams, who was rumored to be in trade talks according to NFL Network, caught seven passes for 96 yards and was the only decent stat recorder on his team in Week 5 vs. the Bears. "I'm very frustrated," Williams said after the game. "We are an 0-4 ballclub, but we aren't an 0-4 ballclub in my eyes. We're better than that."
Analysis: Williams is a good NFL receiver, but he's on a rough offense which now includes an unsure situation at quarterback. If he gets traded, don't expect his stats to go up or even stay at the level they've been at. Consider him a low-end No. 2/top-end No. 3 Fantasy WR when he and the Lions play at the Vikings in Week 6.
News: In the final year of his contract, Roy Williams is reportedly being shopped around by the Lions, according to NFL Network. During the draft, he was dangled to Dallas and other clubs for quality players and top picks. The Lions reportedly want two first-round picks for Williams, but they'd likely settle for less. The NFL trade deadline is later this month.
Analysis: NFL trades aren't like trades in other leagues because of the complex playbook that comes with being an NFL player. Very rarely do players who get traded midseason improve on their statistics (Chris Chambers' 2007 campaign is about as good as it gets post-trade). Hope for Williams to stick with the Lions and play out his contract. He's worth using as a No. 3 WR in Week 5 vs. Chicago.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams (knee) is listed as probable for Week 5 vs. Chicago. Williams was back at practice Friday after sitting out Thursday and is expected to start Sunday.
Analysis: Williams has just eight catches for 113 yards and one touchdown in three games this season. He has not been slowed by injury as much as QB Jon Kitna looking to second-year WR Calvin Johnson a bit more. Williams used to be a must-start Fantasy WR, but he is now more of a No. 3 Fantasy WR. He did have 14 catches for 130 yards in two games against the Bears last season.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams (knee) did not practice Thursday after doing so Wednesday because of a knee injury. Williams and the Lions are preparing to the Bears Week 5.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught just two passes for 18 yards in Week 3 at San Francisco. Both catches went for nine yards.
Analysis: Williams has caught no more than three passes in any of the first three games of the season. He wasn't the only player to have poor numbers, though, as the Lion passed for just 146 yards. They'll have to retool during their bye in Week 4 before returning in Week 5 against Chicago.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams is sporting a new look, leaving a cube-shaped patch of hair just above his neck on the back of his bald head. "I can't do a mohawk or dreds," he said. "I'm working with what I've got." Williams isn't happy getting limited opportunities in Detroit's run-first offense under Jim Colletto after being in a pass-happy scheme the past two seasons with Mike Martz, who will face the Lions on Sunday as San Francisco's offensive coordinator. "First week I had five balls come my way - caught three for 47," Williams said. "This week I had six come my way - three for 48. So, keeping on my average. In Mike Martz's system, I would have had at least 10 to 12 balls come my way." Williams said if the Lions (0-2) beat Atlanta and Green Bay, he wouldn't be complaining. "That's not fine when we lose," he said.
Analysis: Williams had 245 receptions for 3,652 yards and 28 TDs over his first four seasons in the league. The franchise will be faced with an interesting decision after this season, choosing between giving Williams a lucrative contract, putting the franchise tag on him or letting him go elsewhere as a free agent. "My mind-set is I'm not going to deal with it until the time is right," he said. Williams said he's prepared to re-sign, but doesn't want to go to Matt Millen's second-floor office to ask him for a new contract. For now, Williams will concern himself with facing the 49ers in Week 3. Consider Williams a No. 2 Fantasy option against the 49ers.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams has an idea about how to fix Detroit's offense. It includes spreading the field with receivers to set up the run - as former offensive coordinator Mike Martz did the previously - instead of sticking with offensive coordinator Jim Colletto's run-first philosophy. "Last year, we would start the game in four wide and dictate the tempo," Williams said. "Now, we only get into it in 2-minute situations - or if we're down 21-nothing. Why would you get in that when you're down? Why you don't you just start it and get up? But I'm just a player."
Analysis: Williams has six catches for 95 yards and a touchdown to start the season. Whether he would do better in a more spread-out attack is unknown, but Williams will likely try to put on a show in Week 3 at San Francisco against Martz, now the 49ers offensive coordinator. Consider Williams a No. 2 Fantasy option this week and hope he shows Martz what he left behind.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams had three catches for 48 yards Sunday against Green Bay.
Analysis: Williams remains a solid Fantasy WR in all leagues and should be considered a No. 2 option in Week 3 at San Francisco.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams has been up and down against the Packers in his career. He had a monster seven catches for 138 against them in 2006, but has averaged 27.3 yards in his other four meetings. Detroit hosts Green Bay in Week 2.
Analysis: Williams scored a touchdown in Week 1, but was held to only three catches for 47 yards. He's a little inconsistent against Green Bay, but he's in a contract year and the Lions might find themselves behind a bunch in 2008. He remains a low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 for Week 2.
News: Detroit WR Roy Williams was overshadowed by fellow WR Calvin Johnson in Week 1 against the Falcons. Williams didn't make a catch until the second quarter but ended the half in a big way. Kitna hit Williams in the corner of the end zone for a 21-yard TD that was an excellent catch. Williams finished with three catches for 47 yards and the score.
Analysis: Williams is in a contract year and playing for a team that may have to chuck the ball around a ton in 2008. Get him active in all formats for Week 2 against Green Bay and consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR.
News: The Lions take on the Falcons in Week 1, and Detroit WR Roy Williams will be hoping he can repeat his numbers from 2006 when he racked up six catches for 138 yards and a touchdown against Atlanta.
Analysis: Williams is in a contract year and playing for a team that may have to chuck the ball around a ton in 2008. Get him active in all formats for Week 1 and consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 5 in late-occurring drafts.
News: Detroit WR Roy Williams was apart of a very sharp first-team offense for the Lions Saturday against the Browns. Williams caught three Jon Kitna passes for 61 yards including a highlight reel one-handed grab down the sidelines.
Analysis: Because Williams is playing for a new contract in 2008 he should be motivated to put up incredible stats. Though he'll be sharing the field with Calvin Johnson and in an offense that wants to run the ball, Williams will still get his stats. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 5 in drafts this summer.
News:Lions coach Rod Marinelli likes what he sees from WR Roy Williams during training camp, reports the Detroit Free Press. "Roy has had a tremendous camp," Marinelli said. Williams also said he is doing well, and he is not focused on his future, just the present. "People ask me if I'm expecting to have a great year because it's my contract year," he says. "Hey, I don't worry about that. I just want to win, and after this season, we'll see what happens if they want to franchise me or re-sign me or let me go free. But if you win, it makes it easy."
News: Playing for just two series, Lions WR Roy Williams made just one catch, but he made it count. Hauling in a short toss from Jon Kitna over the middle on a short pattern, Williams turned and tiptoed the sideline for a 20-yard touchdown.
Analysis: Williams is a well-known Fantasy option who is playing for a new contract in 2008. He should be motivated to put up incredible stats. Though he'll be sharing the field with Calvin Johnson and in an offense that wants to run the ball, Williams will still get his stats. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 5 in drafts this summer.
News: The Detroit News reports the focus at wide receiver this year in Detroit could shift from Roy Williams to Calvin Johnson as the primary threat. Johnson has everything required to be a great player.
Analysis: Johnson, who was limited last year with a back problem, has the talent to be a No. 1 option for the Lions and Fantasy owners. But it's not like Williams is a slug, and Williams is in a contract year. Look for both players to shine and be great Fantasy targets. For now, consider Williams a No. 2 Fantasy WR and Johnson a high-end No. 3 option.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams was "happy to be back" at organized team workouts Monday, according to the Grand Rapids Press. He was a no-show recently for five days of OTAs at the team's headquarters, which led to all sorts of speculation about his contract status. The truth, according to Williams, is he missed a couple flights from his home in Texas, and it had nothing to do with his feelings about the franchise. The speculation surrounding Williams before the NFL draft is Detroit might have been persuaded to trade him if the price had been right. The Dallas Cowboys were rumored to be pursuing Williams for a pair of first-round draft picks, but Lions president and general manager Matt Millen said phone calls from a few undisclosed teams never became serious enough to consider it more than just idle chatter.
Analysis: All that matters is whether Williams is prepared to go full speed starting next month when the Lions reassemble for preseason training camp. He caught 63 passes for 836 yards and five touchdowns last year, before being placed on the injured reserve list Dec. 18 with a sprained knee ligament. He missed the final four games of the season, but did not require offseason surgery to repair the knee. Williams proclaimed himself in good health and ready to tackle the upcoming camp. Go into the season with Williams as a No. 2 Fantasy option and hope he is motivated by the contract year to have an outstanding season.
News: The Lions have not approached WR Roy Williams about a contract extension, and he missed the Lions' organized team activities last week and Monday, reports the Detroit Free-Press. Williams said his absences had nothing to do with his contract situation. "I'm going to make a lot of money this year," Williams. "You all can look it up. They owe me 5.8 million this year. So why would I be mad? I'm not mad. I'm not missing OTAs because I'm mad at the Detroit Lions. I'm missing because my flights got canceled."
Analysis: It appears Williams will play this season in a walk year, which is a good thing for Fantasy owners. He should be motivated to have a great season and remains a low-end No. 1/high No. 2 Fantasy WR in 2008. Look for Williams to be drafted somewhere in the fourth or fifth round of most leagues and produce a lot in 2008.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams talked with reporters after practice Wednesday. He touched on the trade rumors that swirled around him earlier this offseason, his contract situation and the Lions' new approach on offense. When asked about being traded, Williams said in the Detroit Free-Press, "From all the rumors, I thought I was out of here." When asked about having any talks about a contract extension, Williams said "no." He also said it won't be a motivating factor. "I don't play for money, man. I play for wins. The money is there. It's what this league is based on or whatever, but I don't play for money." And when asked about the changes to the offense, Williams was pleased. "It sounds good, man. Everything sounds good in the offseason."
Analysis: It sounds like Williams is ready to go. The offensive creativity without coordinator Mike Martz, who Williams loved playing for, will be gone. But Williams, playing for a contract, should still thrive. Consider him a solid No. 2 Fantasy option and hope he can remain productive without Martz.
News: The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Cowboys are looking into possible trades with other teams for veteran receiver help, and that includes Lions WR Roy Williams. Lions coach Rod Marinelli has squashed Williams trade rumors several times this offseason. Williams is scheduled to be a free agent after the 2008 season, and according to a source, "wants to play in Dallas." Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn't mention specifics, but did say the club is considering its options. "I don't want to dismiss that we could look at a veteran situation, and we could look at a veteran situation before the draft," he said. "This is that time of year when you do get good value for players, and picks for players get good value. Players are depreciated right now right before the draft; picks are premium. You've got to have your eyes open, and that's what we're doing."
Analysis: Like most Lions offensive players, Roy Williams' 2007 season peaked by Week 4 and went south thereafter. He caught a touchdown in each of his first three games along with a 204-yard effort at Philadelphia, but struggled beginning in Week 5. A sprained PCL in Week 13 ultimately led to him being placed on Injured Reserve before the end of the season with the idea that he'd be better off resting in preparation for 2008. In total, Williams caught 63 passes for 836 yards (13.3 avg.) and five touchdowns, way lower than what was expected of him. A Fantasy Football owner in several leagues himself, Williams knows that he disappointed a lot of people in 2007. The Lions' offense is moving away from Mike Martz's pass-happy scheme and more toward a balanced attack, which hurts Williams' potential for bonkers stats, but he should still produce at a high level. Figure Williams to be a top-20 Fantasy WR in 2008 play, worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 5.
News: MLive.com reports that Lions coach Rod Marinelli is dead-set against trading No. 1 WR Roy Williams. Williams is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2008 season, and no contract talks have been reported. "He's here," Marinelli said. "Roy is here. Look at my eyes -- he's staying here. I want to see what he and Calvin (Johnson) can do out there together. ... When you are a beautiful girl, people will keep knocking on the door and asking for dates -- but the old dad has to keep coming out and saying 'Nope.'"
Analysis: While Williams might not be going on any dates anytime soon, Fantasy owners have fallen for him. Like most Lions offensive players, Roy Williams' season peaked by Week 4 and went south thereafter. He caught a touchdown in each of his first three games along with a 204-yard effort at Philadelphia, but struggled right along with the rest of the Lions beginning in Week 5. A sprained PCL suffered in Week 13 ultimately led to him being placed on Injured Reserve before the end of the season with the idea that he'd be better off resting in preparation for 2008 than playing hurt down the stretch. News: Lions coach Rod Marinelli clarified that the club will not trade WR Roy Williams this offseason. Williams enters 2008 in the final year of his contract. Marinelli wants to have Williams and Calvin Johnson together for a long time. "I know the rumors that are out," Marinelli said. "Those two guys together, I want to see those guys where they can really impact a game. They are special. They've got to have, and they will have, great years for us. We have to ensure they have great years. Those are explosive weapons. Not many people have two guys like that on a team. We've got to do everything we can do to protect our quarterback -- get the ball to those two big guys. I'm very confident he's (Williams) here. Very confident."

The Lions' offense is moving away from Mike Martz's pass-happy scheme and more toward a balanced attack, which hurts Williams' potential for bonkers stats. However, Williams enters a contract year in 2008 and speculation is that he might be moved by the Lions this offseason (Williams once told CBSSports.com that he only wants to play for coach Martz, and Martz is now in San Francisco -- maybe that is a possible landing spot). Either way, figure Williams to be a top-20 Fantasy WR in 2008 play, worth a pick between Rounds 4 and 5.
News: MLive.com is among those reporting Wednesday that the Lions fired offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Replacing him will be veteran offensive line coach Jim Colletto and receivers coach Kippy Brown as "co-coordinators." But no system will replace Martz's scheme -- the Lions will still lean on it, although it is expected to be simplified. Colletto and Brown are also expected to provide more balance and not abandon the running game like Martz did in several contests this season.
Analysis: The Lions should rid themselves of the "wanna-be Rams" label with this change and be more focused on being strong up front and moving the chains via the ground game. Expect Jon Kitna to throw a few fewer times per game, which will impact the overall numbers of his receivers, especially Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson. On the plus side, Kevin Jones (if healthy) should be a more regular option for the Lions.
News: MLive.com reports that Lions WR Roy Williams (sprained knee) was placed on Injured Reserve on Wednesday, ending any chance of him playing again this season. Williams hurt his knee at Minnesota in Week 13 and hoped to come back and play again this year, but with the Lions' postseason hopes dashed, the team wants him to take care and not re-injure himself.
Analysis: Williams was expected to crank out a career-best season playing opposite Calvin Johnson in the Lions' up-tempo passing offense, but he came up short in too many games late in the season before getting hurt. His season ends with 63 catches for 836 yards (a 13.3 avg. -- a career low) with five touchdowns. The knee sprain should fully heal in time for Williams to participate in offseason workouts, and Williams should have a chance to return to form for Fantasy owners in 2008. Figure him to be a top-end No. 2 option next season.
News: Notable Lions inactives for Week 15 at San Diego include: QB Dan Orlovsky, WR Roy Williams, RB Tatum Bell, WR Troy Walters and DE Kalimba Edwards.
Analysis: Orlovsky will be the No. 3/emergency QB, and Roy Williams was expected to be out. No one listed as inactive above is worth a look in Fantasy action.
News: Detroit WR Roy Williams (knee) may not be sidelined for the rest of the season after all. Williams, according to the Detroit Free Press, hopes to play against Kansas City in in Week 16, but returning for the regular season finale in Green Bay would be more realistic. Williams will not play in Week 15 at San Diego.
Analysis: Continue to monitor Williams status and hope he can return against the Chiefs. For now, keep Williams out against the Chargers.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams (knee) has been ruled out for Week 15 at San Diego. It will be the second straight game the Lions' No. 1 wide receiver is out of action. The Lions hope Williams will make it back in the coming weeks.
Analysis: Williams was rolling along with 63 catches for 836 yards and five touchdowns before injuring his back. He is a week-to-week candidate at this time and should be kept reserved in Fantasy leagues until further notice. He is a solid Fantasy WR when healthy.
News: The Lions listed injured WR Roy Williams (knee) inactive for Week 14 against Dallas. The other inactives for Detriot include QB Dan Orlovsky (3rd QB), RB Tatum Bell, DB Tony Beckham, LB Boss Bailey and DL Kalimba Edwards.
Analysis: Keep Williams reserved in all Fantasy leagues. All the other players have minimal Fantasy value and should not be used.
News: Lions coach Rod Marinelli said Wednesday that the team isn't putting WR Roy Williams on Injured Reserve yet. Williams strained his right PCL in Week 13 at Minnesota. "I think he still has a chance to get back," Marinelli said. "I believe that right now, so that's the path we're going. I think we're going to get him back."
Analysis: Williams shouldn't be dropped just yet in Fantasy play since there's still a glimmer of hope that he plays again in 2007. In fact, he has been dropped in many leagues, and owners might want to consider picking him up if they can spare the roster room. However, expect to be without him for Weeks 14 and 15 at the very least.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams is expected to miss the rest of the regular season because of a sprained knee. Lions coach Rod Marinelli announced Monday that Williams has a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and that he will miss "several weeks."
Analysis: Williams finishes the season with 63 catches for 836 yards and five touchdowns. He should be reserved or released in all Fantasy leagues unless you are holding onto him as a No. 2 option in keeper leagues. He should be fine for the 2008 season.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams hurt his right knee in Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, ending his afternoon in the second quarter. The team called his return probable in the second period, when he was seen standing on the sideline wearing a wrap on the knee. But with the game out of reach after Minnesota built a 42-10 lead early in the third quarter, Williams was ruled out for the rest of the day. Williams caught five passes for 85 yards for the Lions before the injury, including a 43-yard catch down the sideline after an illegal contact penalty on Vikings DB Cedric Griffin. Williams was tackled at the 3 on that play, setting up a touchdown.
Analysis: Williams is a No. 2 Fantasy WR when healthy. He will likely be on the field for Week 14 against Dallas, but continue to monitor his status before setting your lineup.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams was on the sideline with a wrap on his right knee in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings. The team called his return probable. Williams caught five passes for 85 yards for the Lions before the injury, including a 43-yard catch down the sideline after an illegal contact penalty on Vikings cornerback Cedric Griffin. Williams was tackled at the 3 on that play, setting up a touchdown. Williams had 111 yards and one touchdown receiving in Detroit's last meeting with Minnesota, an overtime win on Sept. 16.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Williams' status. Hopefully he can return soon.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports that Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz had a chat with WR Roy Williams on Monday talking about his role on the team. As it turns out, Martz admitted that Williams isn't involved as much as he should be. "I went to Roy because I could sense his frustration to some extent," Martz said Thursday. "We had a nice visit. Some things he said were very accurate. ... He's right, to some extent. We do need to get him the ball." When asked later about the meeting, Williams wouldn't discuss the details but did say something about his future with the club. "I know my understudy here, Calvin Johnson, is going to be better than me one day," he said. "I'm trying to groom him to be that way. I know next year is my contract year. So I don't know what the future holds for me. But as far as right now, I feel like I'm OK. I'm pretty good. I just want to play ball."
Analysis: Williams has told CBSSports.com that he never wants to play under anyone else except Martz for the rest of his career, so we were taken aback by the news that they spoke. But one thing we're sure of is that Williams will play strong after voicing his opinions this week, especially against a defense the Lions will throw early and often against in the Vikings in Week 13. Start Williams with the hopes that he'll play like a No. 2 Fantasy WR in Week 13.
News:Roy Williams caught just three passes for 32 yards on Thanksgiving Day against Green Bay in Week 12.
Analysis: Williams will look to rebound in Week 13 at Minnesota against one of the worst passing defenses in the NFL. Keep him active in all formats as a No. 1 receiver despite his Turkey Day output.
News: In the 2006 meeting between the Lions and the Packers in Detroit, Lions WR Roy Williams caught seven passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. Williams will look for his second straight 100-yard game in Week 12 when the two teams meet for the first time this season.
Analysis: Williams has been nothing but feast or famine for his Fantasy owners this season, and it was definitely more famine coming into Week 11's game against the Giants as he had only gone over 53 yards once in his previous six games before reeling off 106 against the G-men. If Jon Kitna can put together a second solid week in a row, Williams will get his fair share of the touches and yards. Consider him a high-end No. 2 Fantasy WR option for Week 12 when he interrupts your eating on Thanksgiving Day.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught six passes for 106 yards vs. the Giants in Week 11. He also broke a finger but stayed in the game; the injury isn't considered serious.
Analysis: The Lions host the Packers in a big NFC North tilt on Thanksgiving in Week 12, one in which Williams should be used often. He'll be a low-end No. 1/top-end No. 2 Fantasy WR against the Packers next week, but make sure you set him in your lineup before Thursday's game.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams was held to only 45 yards receiving on six catches in Week 10, but two of those catches went for touchdowns, which made his Fantasy effort a great one for his owners. In Week 11 he faces a Giants pass defense that ranks ninth in yards allowed, but has given up 16 touchdowns through the air.
Analysis: The big question for Williams on Sunday is whether Jon Kitna can remain off his backside long enough to find his star WR on a consistent basis. The Giants lead the league in sacks with 32 and the Lions lead the league in sacks allowed with 40. If Kitna can stay on his feet, Williams should put up numbers worthy of a low-end No. 1 Fantasy WR.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught two seven-yard touchdown passes Week 10 at Arizona -- one in the third quarter and one in the fourth. He finished with only 45 yards on six catches, however.
Analysis: Williams hadn't scored a touchdown since Week 3, so his Fantasy owners were screaming for a game like Sunday's. Then again, they'd also like to see him get a few more yards. Williams struggled with the rise and fall and subsequent rise of the Lions' passing game, but we say start him as a No. 2 Fantasy WR in Week 11 against the Giants.
News: The Detroit Lions would never sit down WR Roy Williams, but Fantasy owners are growing tired of his lack of production. Williams is in the midst of a five-game skid without a touchdown or a 100-yard game, the longest of his career. In Week 10, he and the Lions face the Cardinals in Arizona. That used to be a license to post huge stats, but the Cardinals are improved this year and put a hurting on the Lions and Williams (five catches, 67 yards) in their meeting in 2006.
Analysis: The Cardinals have yielded just one 100-yard receiver in their last four contests as teams have been having success running the ball on them rather than passing. That spells more bad news for Williams. We know Williams is a Fantasy Football owner like you, and even he might suggest benching himself. But we see this game as another chance for Williams to get in the end zone, and his potential is so great that sitting him doesn't seem like an option, especially this week with so many quality receivers either hurt or on bye. Start Williams, but expect him to produce like a No. 2 Fantasy WR.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams had three catches for 44 yards Sunday against Denver. He also had one carry for minus-8 yards.
Analysis: Williams has been a disappointment this season, but he will look to bounce back in Week 10 at Arizona. Williams should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Entering last week's game vs. Green Bay, not many wide receivers were interested in playing the Broncos. But the Broncos' stud cornerbacks were taken to the cleaners, each on one huge touchdown play over 70 yards, to help pace the Packers to a win. Now Roy Williams and the Lions host the Broncos at Ford Field in Week 9 and get the chance to face Champ Bailey and Dre Bly. Williams is motivated to see Bly, his old teammate who left the Lions via trade to Denver this offseason. "Dre is not a hitter, period," Williams said playfully to Detroit media including the Detroit Free Press. "Dre is a no-hitter. Isn't that a term in baseball, a no-hitter? He's a no-hitter. ... If I was to run 10 routes on Dre, it'd probably be 60-40, advantage me. But as far as if Kevin Jones ran at him, 10 out of 10 times, Dre is going to miss the tackle."
Analysis: Williams has been ice cold over his last three games, averaging 45 receiving yards per with no touchdowns. The Lions are expected to run early and often on Denver, whose run defense stinks, but Williams will get his shots as well. Consider the brash Lions receiver a low-end No. 1/top-end No. 2 Fantasy wideout for Week 9.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught eight passes for 77 yards in Week 8 at the Lions.
Analysis: Williams remains the top receiving option on the Lions offense, but Detroit has gone without a passing touchdown in three straight weeks. In Week 9, when Detroit faces Denver, odds are that the streak should come to an end. Keep him active in all leagues.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams has only six catches for 59 yards in his last two games and hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 3. The Lions play at Chicago in Week 8.
Analysis: Williams' struggles have come along with Jon Kitna's passing problems, but things should pick up against the Bears. If Kitna can successfully avoid the Bears pass rush and find time to throw, Williams could be in for a nice week...finally. Consider him a low-end No. 1 Fantasy WR in Week 8.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams had three catches for 23 yards Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Williams hasn't scored in three straight games and has just 12 catches for 112 yards over that span. He will look to get back on track in Week 8 against Chicago. Consider him a low-end No. 1 option.
News: Expect Lions WR Roy Williams to have a little extra motivation in Week 7 vs. the Bucs as he had some things to say about ex-teammate and current Bucs QB Jeff Garcia. "He blamed everybody else," Williams said of Garcia when the two were together in Detroit. Williams made these comments on WDFN-AM in Detroit. "He blamed everybody else but himself. Like it's (the receivers') fault. In the West Coast system ... my son can run the West Coast system and he's only two." The Bucs pass defense ranks eighth, allowing just 194.7 pass yards per game this season.
Analysis: Williams, who admitted to CBSSports.com during a podcast appearance in Week 6 that he and the Lions play better indoors than out, will have his hands full but is just too talented a player to sit, even against the eighth-ranked Bucs pass defense. Expect Williams to put up s strong game.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams had three catches for 36 yards Sunday against Washington.
Analysis: The entire Lions offense struggled against the Redskins. Look for Williams to bounce back in Week 7 against Tampa Bay following the Lions bye in Week 6. He will return to being a No. 1 option.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams has 22 catches for 368 yards (122.7 yards per game) in his last three outings and has six TDs in his past six games. In his only career game against the Redskins in 2003, Williams caught three passes for 33 yards.
Analysis: Williams has been the biggest beneficiary of the wide-open Lions offense and will look to keep his fine season going when the Lions play at Washington in Week 5. The Redskins have an average defense, but they haven't played any team with as potent an offense as Detroit yet. Williams is a top-three Fantasy WR this Sunday.
News: After talking a good game during the week, Lions WR Roy Williams was held in check vs. Chicago in Week 4. Williams caught six passes for 53 yards in the game with no touchdowns. "Luck is turning our way," Roy Williams said after the game. "We're a 3-1 ballclub and not a lot of teams can say that."
Analysis: Williams remains must-start material despite the slow outing here. Expect him to rebound at Washington in Week 5.
News: Roy Williams has scored in two of his last three against the Bears with at least five catches and 71 yards in all three. But in Williams' five-game history against Chicago, he has never topped 100 yards receiving. Williams and the Lions get the Bears without CBs Nathan Vasher or Charles Tillman and with SS Adam Archuleta playing hurt. Williams has 315 yards in his last two games and has scored in every game so far this season.
Analysis: We know you're starting Williams no matter what, but expect nice numbers considering the state of the Bears secondary. Use him across all leagues in Week 4.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught nine passes for 204 yards in Detroit's 56-21 loss at Philadelphia in Week 3.
Analysis: Despite his poor Week 1 totals, Williams has continued to show this season why he is one of the elite WRs in the league. Despite being surrounded by other massive talents at his position, Williams still finds a way to stick out. He is part of a high-powered passing game in Detroit and should be one of the few Lions starting Fantasy-wise in Week 4 when they host the Bears.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams had nine catches for 135 yards and two touchdown in his only previous game vs. the Eagles. Williams has five touchdowns in his last four games and is aiming for his fifth game in row with a touchdown catch.
Analysis: Look for Williams to have another solid outing in Week 3 against Philadelphia. The Lions offense is a high-powered one, especially in the passing game. He is our sixth-ranked WR this week and remains a must-start in all leagues.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in Detroit's 20-17 overtime win against the Vikings in Week 2. The touchdown came on a 9-yard pass from Jon Kitna in the first quarter. Williams also ran once for nine yards and lost a fumble.
Analysis: Williams plays in a pass-heavy offense, making him a No. 1 Fantasy receiver in most formats. He'll have games like this one more often than not so keep him active in all leagues for Week 3 at the Eagles.
News: You'll be hard pressed to come with reasons to sit Lions WR Roy Williams, but consider his history against the Vikings. In six career games, Williams has 20 catches for 237 yards and two touchdowns. However, if you take out his seven-catch, 104-yard, two-TD game from late 2004, Williams has 13 grabs for 133 yards and no scores. He's gone up against solid CB Antoine Winfield for most of those games.
Analysis: With the Vikings' tough run defense, the Lions will have to air it out in Week 2 and Williams is undoubtedly Jon Kitna's favorite target at this point. For these reasons, Williams is certainly a high-end No. 1 WR option this week.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams opened up the 2007 season with four receptions for 20 yards Week 1 against the Raiders. He scored the Lions' first touchdown when he hauled in a 13-yard pass in the second quarter.
Analysis: Williams wasn't the Lions leading receiver Week 1, but at least he managed to find the end zone. Williams will likely still end up as Jon Kitna's favorite target by season's end and should not be benched unless injured. Continue to view him as a No. 1 Fantasy WR heading into Week 2 against the Vikings.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams will be on the road this week when he plays at Oakland. Initially, you're probably thinking that this will be a great matchup. However, Williams did not fare well outdoors last season, nor did his QB, Jon Kitna. His only amazing game: Week 17 at Dallas, his hometown team, where he caught six passes for 104 yards and two TDs. Williams' other five outdoor games? He totaled 17 receptions for 227 yards and one touchdown, topping 50 yards twice.
Analysis: Williams' outdoor numbers aren't pretty, and the Raiders pass defense is expected to be tough to beat this season. He's too good to bench, so start him but keep expectations in check for Week 1 at Oakland.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught four passes for 62 yards (15.5 average) in the preseason.
Analysis: Williams is already considered a top-shelf Fantasy wideout, so don't worry too much about his preseason totals. The addition of Calvin Johnson will help him see less double and triple coverage. For 2007, Williams shouldn't see a drop in production, but he could have a hard time catching 90 passes once Johnson gets up to NFL speed. You're looking at a No. 1 WR worth a pick starting in Round 3 in all leagues.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams (hamstring) returned to the field during Saturday's preseason game against the Colts. He had three receptions for 39 yards, including a long of 21 yards.
Analysis: Williams is already considered a top-shelf Fantasy wideout, but the addition of Calvin Johnson will help him see less double and triple coverage. For 2007, Williams shouldn't see a drop in production, but he could have a hard time catching 90 passes once Johnson gets up to NFL speed. You're looking at a No. 1 WR worth a pick starting in Round 3 in all leagues.
News: The Lions will be without wide receiver Roy Williams in their second preseason game at Cleveland. Williams has a sore hamstring and the club doesn't want to chance it in a game.
Analysis: Williams should be fine. He was already considered a top-shelf Fantasy wideout, but the addition of Johnson will help him see less double and triple coverage. For 2007, Williams shouldn't see a drop in production, but he could have a hard time catching 90 passes once Johnson gets up to NFL speed. You're looking at a No. 1 WR worth a pick starting in Round 3 in all leagues.
News: Mike Furrey had one reception for 24 yards and Roy Williams had a catch for 23 yards in Thursday's preseason opener against the Bengals.
Analysis: Furrey and Williams sit one-two on the Detroit depth chart currently. Furrey is a solid No. 3 Fantasy receiver heading into 2007, but look for rookie Calvin Johnson to emerge as the season goes on and take away most of his receptions. Williams, meanwhile, remains a must-start Fantasy receiver in all formats.
News: Roy Williams will happily share some catches with rookie Calvin Johnson. He's not going to give up his fans. Johnson was cheered every time he touched the ball at the Detroit Lions' public workout Saturday at Ford Field, but it was Williams who entertained the crowd. "It's great to be out here, having some fun with our fans," Williams said. Early in the 90-minute workout, Williams caught a touchdown pass from Jon Kitna, then sprinted over to the stands to high-five a brand-new bride. "That was a first for me," he said with a grin.
Analysis: Williams was already considered a top-shelf Fantasy wideout, but the addition of Johnson will help him see less double and triple coverage. For 2007, Williams shouldn't see a drop in production, but he could have a hard time catching 90 passes a year when Johnson gets up to NFL speed.
News: With the second pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, the Lions selected Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson. It's the club's fourth wide receiver pick since 2003. Johnson was considered by many to be the best prospect in the draft thanks to his awesome size (6-foot-4, 237) and tremendous speed (4.35). In an interview on Sirius NFL Radio, Johnson was ecstatic to be going to Detroit and said he already had a glimpse of Mike Martz's offense and had a grasp on the offense. Johnson will eventually start opposite Roy Williams to make what has the potential to be the most dominant receiving duo in the NFL ... in a few years.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams set career-highs in receptions and receiving yards in 2006 with 82 catches for 1,310 yards and seven TDs (he had scored eight in each of the last two seasons). Sixty-six of his 82 grabs were good for first downs, and he improved his yards per catch average to 16.0. He also rushed for 2 yards on two carries and fumbled the ball away twice.
Analysis: Williams certainly benefited from having Mike Martz as his offensive coordinator. He also managed to stay healthy for all 16 games and played with a reliable No. 2 receiver in Mike Furrey. Even if Martz and Furrey, a free agent, change teams this offseason, Williams will remain a No. 1 Fantasy wide receiver in 2007.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams had a nice homecoming to Texas, catching six passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns at Dallas in Week 17.
Analysis: Williams ended the season on a strong note and should be considered a No. 1 Fantasy WR not only in 2007 but for years to come.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams had six catches for 79 yards and a 2-yard touchdown in a Week 16 loss to the Bears.
Analysis: Williams have given Fantasy owners plenty to cheer about in 2006 and will look to repeat his strong performance in 2007. He will likely enter next season as a solid No. 1 Fantasy WR. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR for Week 17 at Dallas.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught just one pass for 11 yards in Week 15 at Green Bay.
Analysis: Since the first quarter of the Thanksgiving Day game, Williams has been almost an obsolete option in the Lions offensive scheme. There really is little explanation for the dropoff other than they haven't gone to him as much. If he hasn't cost you already in the Fantasy playoffs, you have to think twice about starting him in Week 16 vs. Chicago.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams caught six passes for 73 yards vs. Minnesota in Week 14, a gross disappointment considering the matchup. Williams has 123 yards in his last two games.
Analysis: Williams is struggling right along with the Lions offense, but should be a viable starter in Fantasy play at Green Bay in Week 15.
News: Lions WR Roy Williams is usually the most optimistic athlete in Detroit. After all, he guaranteed a Lions victory at Soldier Field this season and didn't lose heart when the Bears won 34-7. So, when even Williams calls the Lions' situation hopeless, things have gotten really bad. The Lions are 2-10, their sixth straight season with at least 10 losses. "There's no hope," he said Monday. "There's no playoff run, there's nothing in this building. Not this year. All we can do is try to build something that might help next year." Williams was frustrated by Detroit's latest defeat, a 28-21 loss to New England, and he wasn't alone. QB Jon Kitna has also lost some of his usually positive outlook. "Every quarterback is going to have bad days, but yesterday was the first time that I felt like I let the whole team down," said Kitna, who turned over the ball four times. "As someone who is a competitive player and who cares about the other 53 guys in this room, that's hard to accept."

Brett Perriman (95-96) and Terry Barr (63-64) are the only others with more than one 1,000-yard season.

"It's going to be a great game," he said Monday. "We'll win this game, we will win this game. Ya'll can take this as a guarantee or what-not but we will win this game."

He referred to his blocking as "(bleep)-poor" and was equally critical of his route-running and all-around play. He'll also be a must-start every week for owners this season regardless of his matchup.

However, he's the only one out of their three former first-round WRs that is starting; Charles Rogers and Mike Williams are listed as third stringers.
