News: Chiefs LB Brandon Siler, who signed with the team on Aug. 1, had surgery to repair a torn Achilles' tendon after suffering the injury during the week. His agent, David Canter, confirmed the injury in a text message to The Associated Press on Wednesday. "We're both beside ourselves upset," Canter said. Siler was competing for the middle linebacker spot alongside Derrick Johnson, but his season is over before it started.
Analysis: Siler was hindered by injuries in 2010, managing 44 tackles, one sack and an interception while filling in as a starter on occasion for the Chargers. It looks as if he will have to wait another year to get the chance to impress on his new team. Fantasy owners should obviously not consider Siler to be an option of any kind until he heals.
News: The Chiefs announced Monday that they agreed to terms with former Chargers LB Brandon Siler. Details were not revealed. Siler was hindered by injuries in 2010, managing 44 tackles, one sacks and an interception while filling in as a starter on occasion.
Analysis: Siler has been productive when given the opportunity early in his NFL career, and the move to Kansas City may be the right one in terms of his chances to start. He will likely battle Jovan Belcher for the ILB job. Siler has started 12 games over the last two seasons, but he should not be considered a Fantasy option in IDP formats unless he snags the gig.
News: Chargers LB Brandon Siler got the start for the injured Stephen Cooper in Week 16. Siler was listed as probable for the game against the Bengals because of a rib issue.
Analysis: Siler has got a few starts this year for Cooper, but is mainly a backup linebacker and special teamer. Fantasy owners in IDP leagues can view him as a low-end option for the remainder of the season.
News: Chargers LB Brandon Siler got the start in Week 13 against the Raiders and had one of his better performances of the year. He led San Diego with 13 total tackles in the 28-13 win. Siler, who missed time on Sunday with a left hand injury, got the start over Stephen Cooper.
Analysis: Siler has mainly been used as a special teamer in his career but he showed on Sunday that he can step in and start when needed. His hand injury does not appear to be too serious but Fantasy owners in IDP might want to keep an eye on his status just to be safe. If he continues to see solid playing time on San Diego's defense, he will be worth owning as a low-end Fantasy option.
News: San Diego LB Brandon Siler had one special teams tackle in the Week 4 win over Arizona. He was coming off of a five tackle game in Week 3, in which he added a safety.
Analysis: Siler is a solid all around contributor for San Diego, but still remains a high-risk Fantasy option at LB.
News: San Diego LB Brandon Siler had five tackles and one sack in Sunday's loss to Seattle, but did his part has he sacked QB Matt Hasselbeck for a safety in the third quarter.
Analysis: Siler has 11 tackles on the year, one interception and one sack. At this stage of the game he should be considered a low-end Fantasy IDP option in deeper leagues.
News: The Chargers had several defenders play well Friday at Tennessee. LB Shaun Phillips had three tackles and a forced fumble. LB Shawne Merriman had three tackles. DB Antonio Cromartie had three tackles. DB Eric Weddle had four tackles and an interception. LB Brandon Siler had two tackles and an interception. LB Stephen Cooper had five tackles and fumble recovery.
Analysis: The Chargers continue to play well on defense, and you should plan on using your regular IDP options in Week 17 against Washington.
News: Chargers LB Brandon Siler totaled five tackles (four solo) and on sack during a Week 14 win against the Cowboys. He has two sacks in his last five games.
Analysis: The Chargers started to play Siler on a regular basis around late October and is has paid off in a big way. Siler has given the Chargers' defense a boost and he is starting to post some nice numbers. However, he is still a low-end Fantasy start.
News:Brandon Siler, Larry English and Paul Oliver all recovered fumbles on Sunday in a Week 12 Chargers win over the Chiefs. Siler also led the team in tackles with nine. Oliver returned his fumble recovery 40 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Analysis: English has some marginal Fantasy value in IDP formats but Paul and Siler have zero value. The Chargers are at Cleveland Week 13.
News: San Diego LB Brandon Siler was active for Saturday's preseason game against the Falcons, making a tackle. He was questionable for the game with a foot injury.
Analysis: Siler doesn't start, and he doesn't get enough tackles to make an impact in Fantasy. Don't plan on drafting him in 2009.
News: Chargers LB Brandon Siler, dealing with a foot injury during the week, played Sunday in the Divisional Playoff game at Pittsburgh. He finished with three tackles, including two solo.
Analysis: Siler doesn't start, and he doesn't get enough tackles to make an impact in Fantasy. Don't plan on drafting him in 2009.
News: Notable inactives from the Chargers-Bears Week 1 game include: Chargers QB Charlie Whitehurst (No. 3/emergency QB), CB Paul Oliver, LB Anthony Waters, LB Brandon Siler, OT Roman Oben, TE Scott Chandler, WR Eric Parker and DT Brandon McKinney. For the Bears, QB Kyle Orton (No. 3/emergency QB), CB Corey Graham, FB Lousaka Polite, DB Kevin Payne, OL Josh Beekman, TE Greg Olsen, WR Mike Hass and DT Anthony Adams are inactive.
Analysis: Parker will be out for several weeks, and Olsen is on a week-to-week medical watch with a knee injury. The rest of these players shouldn't be considered for Fantasy use.
News: On Monday, the San Diego Chargers signed linebacker Anthony Waters (third round), tight end Legedu Naanee (fifth round) and linebacker Brandon Siler (seventh round) to four-year deals. They also inked cornerback Paul Oliver, who was taken in the fourth round of the supplemental draft.
Analysis: Naanee is not expected to make much of an impact from a Fantasy perspective, so avoid him in all but the deepest of formats. Waters might get a chance at some meaningful playing time, but his impact in IDP leagues will be minimal, as will that of Oliver and Siler.
News: Aside from first-round pick WR Craig Davis, the Chargers' 2007 draft class includes: Utah SS Eric Weddle, Clemson LB Anthony Waters, Iowa TE Scott Chandler, Boise State WR Legedu Naanee and Florida LB Brandon Siler.
Analysis: Weddle has major potential to be a good defensive back in the NFL but measures at 5-foot-11. If he overcomes it, he'll be a decent pickup in Fantasy play (think late-round pick in seasonal IDP leagues and an early- to middle-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts). Waters is coming off an ACL injury but has potential to be a nice linebacker for the Bolts in time and is worth a late-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts. And like Waters, Siler is a potential-laden ILB who is better against the run than the pass. Chandler should develop into a fair end-zone option for the Bolts thanks to his huge size (6-foot-7). Naanee also has nice size and speed and needs some coaching and time (he'll get both in San Diego). This is one of the better draft classes in 2007.
