Rob Ninkovich to benefit from improved secondary

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(4/9/2014) Patriots defensive end Rob Ninkovich, who had eight sacks last season, could have a bigger year thanks to the additions of cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. If the secondary covers receivers longer, Ninkovich can get to the quarterback more often.

"I’m happy to have some of the new guys coming in, and we’ve got the best corner in the league coming in, so that’s always a good thing for a defensive end like myself," Ninkovich told the Boston Herald. "Just give me a little more time, I’ll be happy to use that."

Patriots DST can't force mistakes

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/19/2013) After getting seven takeaways in its previous three games, the Patriots DST did not force a turnover in the 24-20 loss at Carolina. New England registered three sacks, two by defensive end Rob Ninkovich

The Patriots held Carolina to 300 total yards but had no answer for Cam Newton, who threw three touchdown passes and repeatedly scrambled to keep drives alive. Newton's running helped Carolina convert 8 of 11 third downs.

The Patriots DST faces an even tougher matchup Week 12, when Peyton Manning and the Broncos come calling.
