by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer

Jets LB Erin Henderson embracing second chance

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6/2/2015) For a guy not even guaranteed a roster spot out of training camp, Jets linebacker Erin Henderson certainly has lofty goals in 2015.

He wants to be in the running for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.

The seeds of his motivation were planted on New Year's Day of 2014 as he sat in a holding cell in suburban Minneapolis, where he had been arrested on suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession following a single-car crash. It was his second arrest in six weeks. And he had plenty of time as he fretted all alone to think about his life and the future.

"I'd never been to prison before," he told ESPN. "I sat there that night ... you're in there by yourself and you have a lot of time to think about things and figure out which direction you want to go. Coach [Leslie] Frazier always used to tell us, 'Tell me your vision, and I'll show your future.' That night, I decided to change my vision."

Henderson checked into rehab and eventually signed a one-year, minimum-salary contract with the Jets. Not a cent is guaranteed. He understands that his second chance could be his last chance. And he's driven.

"I have it in my mind to become one of the comeback players or at least be in the conversation," he said. "I think it's an interesting story and I think there are lot of people out there who are suffering from similar things and maybe I can be an inspiration to them."

Jets sign linebacker Erin Henderson

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/8/2015) The Jets signed linebacker Erin Henderson to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Henderson did not play during the 2014 season after being released by the Vikings following two DUI arrests. Henderson considers himself a recovering alcoholic.

"I understand it's an ongoing battle, a lifelong thing," he said. "For me, it's nothing different than when I came to the Vikings as an undrafted free agent. Once I get to a team and get on a roster, I trust myself and believe myself. It's just a matter of somebody going out on a limb and trusting me."

Vikings DST can't pick off Eli Manning

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(10/22/2013) The Vikings DST became the first unit to play the Giants without intercepting Eli Manning. The unit salvaged its performance thanks to Marcus Sherels' 86-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Minnesota recovered a fumble and played tough against the run, holding the Giants to 2.0 yards per carry. Linebacker Erin Henderson had a sack, and defensive end Jared Allen and defensive tackle Kevin Williams shared a sack.

The Vikings DST faces a more difficult test in Week 8 against the Packers.

Vikings DST wants in on the fun

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(10/16/2013) The Vikings DST enters Week 7 ranked 26th but with a golden chance to move up. The Giants have committed 23 turnovers -- eight more than any other team.

New York has given up 16 sacks, tied for 11th-most, so end Jared Allen should have opportunities to add to his team-leading 3 1/2 sacks. Three Vikings -- Harrison Smith, Chad Greenway and Erin Henderson -- have two interceptions each. Giants quarterback Eli Manning has thrown a league-high 15 picks, at least one in every game.

The Vikings DST isn't a strong option, but the matchup makes the unit playable in very deep leagues.

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/22/2013) The Vikings fell 31-27 to the Browns in Week 3, but it certainly can't be pinned on linebacker Erin Henderson.
