News: The 49ers released WR Tyler Beiler, WR Kevin Jurovich, LB Scott McKillop and RB Seth Smith on Tuesday.
Analysis: All of these players were fighting for a backup roster spot. They had no Fantasy value and can continue to be ignored.
News: The 49ers waived second-year LB Scott McKillop on Wednesday. McKillop tore ligaments in his left knee during practice Aug. 4 and had season-ending surgery two days later. If he clears waivers, he will be placed on San Francisco's injured reserve list.
Analysis: McKillop's season is over, so he can be ignored in all Fantasy formats. Most of his contributions would have come on special teams anyway.
News: An MRI revealed 49ers LB Scott McKillop suffered a torn ACL and torn patellar tendon, according to the Sacramento Bee. He was injured while landing awkwardly after trying to break up a pass during practice Wednesday night. McKillop should miss the entire season.
Analysis: McKillop was playing with the second team defense in San Francisco, and most of his contributions would have come on special teams. He likely wouldn't have seen enough playing time to be a factor in Fantasy, but now that he's apparently done for the year he can be ignored in Fantasy.
News: 49ers LB Scott McKillop landed awkwardly after leaping to break up a pass during practice Wednesday night, injuring his left leg. Trainers put the leg in an air cast, and he was been carted off to the locker room. The preliminary diagnosis is a sprained left knee, but McKillop will be evaluated further.
Analysis: McKillop is currently playing with the second team defense in San Francisco, and likely wouldn't see enough playing time to be a factor in Fantasy even if he escaped serious injury. He can be ignored in Fantasy at this time.
News: San Francisco found a fortunate, wacky way to finally get on the board late in the first half of a Week 4 win against the Rams. Rookie fifth-round draft pick Scott McKillop recovered a botched punt return by St. Louis in the end zone. McKillop capitalized when St. Louis' Danny Amendola let Andy Lee's punt go and teammate Quincy Butler tried to pick up the ball but couldn't gain control. The 49ers swarmed and McKillop came up with the ball at the bottom of the pile. "You have to communicate to the guys that are blocking for you that the ball's on the ground," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "I don't know if it was the noise or if Danny didn't get out. But it hit Quincy and at that point Quincy knew he had to get on the ball. That's what he tried to do."
Analysis: McKillop had no tackles in the game and five on the season. He primarily plays on special teams and is trying to work his way into the LB rotation. Despite the score, McKillop has little to no Fantasy appeal.
News: 49ers rookie LB Scott McKillop confirmed that he's learning the backup positions both at both inside linebacker spots for the team. He will be the primary backup for Takeo Spikes, who plays the "Ted" linebacker in the defense.
Analysis: McKillop might be fine down the line for the 49ers, but he's not going to play much this season other than on special teams. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters. For the latest from 49ers camp, check out CBSSports.com's RapidReports.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports the 49ers have signed rookies Scott McKillop and Ricky Jean-Francois on Thursday. McKillop, taken in the fifth round out of Pitt, will serve as a backup at ILB to Takeo Spikes, but will earn his living as a rookie on special teams. Jean-Francois, a DE from LSU, was regarded as a third-round talent who lasted until the seventh round because of character concerns. Both players signed four-year contracts.
Analysis: Both players have minimal Fantasy value in IDP leagues and should be ignored in all formats this season.
News: The 49ers picked up Pitt LB Scott McKillop with a fifth-round pick in the 2009 draft. McKillop is a good football player with a long collegiate history of making tackles.
Analysis: He should excel on special teams and provide depth as an inside linebacker behind Patrick Willis. He's only worth a late-round pick in deeper rookie-only drafts this summer.
