Chad Henne named Week 1 starter

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/23/2014) Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley is sticking to his plan, at least for now. He has named Chad Henne the starting quarterback for Week 1 at Philadelphia, according to the Florida Times-Union. The announcement came following Friday's preseason game against Detroit.

Henne led his team to only one scoring drive (field goal), and took a backseat to rookie Blake Bortles late in the first half. The rookie worked with the first unit and orchestrated a scoring drive (field goal) before half time.

Bortles made an impressive throw to Allen Hurns for a 28-yard gain. He followed it up with a 30-yard completion to veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis. After halftime, he hooked up with Hurns for a 13-yard touchdown, his first touchdown of the preseason.

Bortles compiled 158 yards through the air while completing 10 of 16 passes. He added a touchdown and no interceptions, registering a 116.1 quarterback rating. He has 435 passing yards through his first three preseason games.

Henne completed 9 of 14 pass attempts for 70 yards. He was sacked twice and finished with a 76.5 passer rating. Through three preseason games, Henne has passed for 230 yards.

Chad Henne to get slightly more work than Blake Bortles

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/20/2014) Jaguars coach Gus Bradley anticipates quarterback Chad Henne playing "a quarter and a half" Friday at Detroit and rookie Blake Bortles taking over for another quarter, reports the Florida Times-Union. Despite Bortles' impressive preseason, the Jaguars plan to start Henne during the regular season.

Chad Henne looks sharp in second preseason game

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/14/2014) Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne led his team to scores in his first three drives, including a touchdown to Marqise Lee on the third drive Thursday night against Chicago.

Henne found the rookie receiver out of USC on a playaction pass for a 6-yard strike late in the first quarter. Henne played four series with the rest of the first-team offense and completed 12 of 17 pass attempts for 130 yards, with a touchdown and no interceptions. He was sacked once and had one run for a gain of 1-yard.

Through two preseason games, Henne has passed for 160 yards.

Chad Henne to play entire first half Thursday

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/12/2014) Jaguars coach Gus Bradley told reporters that quarterback Chad Henne will play the entire first half Thursday against the Bears. Rookie Blake Bortles will play the third quarter and into the fourth.

Chad Henne still the starter; Blake Bortles first-team reps unlikely this week

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/9/2014) Though Blake Bortles impressed in the team's preseason debut against the Buccaneers Friday, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley reiterated to the media that Chad Henne is still the team's starting quarterback.

Bortles could get some reps with the first-team offense at some point before the season, but Bradley also noted that he does not expect that to happen this week. Bortles outgained Henne 117 to 30 yards Friday on just four more attempts, but Henne is still expected to open the season as the starter/

Chad Henne does little in first preseason action

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/8/2014) Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne got the start but did not make much of an impact in Friday's preseason opener against the Buccaneers.

Henne coughed up the ball twice, but managed to recover each fumble during his four series with the first-team offense. He completed 4 of 7 passes for 30 yards and had two carries for no gain. He was replaced by rookie Blake Bortles with 9:51 to play in the second quarter.

Chad Henne given green light to audible

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/29/2014) Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne said he has the green light from offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch to audible as much as he wants to, reports the Florida Times-Union.

"He’s pretty much given us all the tools. Whatever we see out there, if we have to throw it every down because they’re giving so many guys at the line of scrimmage, we’ll throw it," Henne said.

Henne said he has a better grasp of the offense in Year 2.

"Jedd has been putting a lot in our shoulders, more audibles, but it’s really just taking ownership of it. If I see something out there and I check out of something, he gets excited. It’s exciting for us because it shows him that we’re understanding the defense, understanding the offense and getting in the best plays that will work," Henne said.

Jags GM lays out quarterback plans

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/25/2014) Jaguars general manager David Caldwell wants quarterback Chad Henne to start all 16 games this season, reports the team's official website.

The report says Caldwell expects rookie quarterback Blake Bortles to be the top backup. When asked if Bortles could start, Caldwell said, "For us it’s really going to be our team's maturity and Blake's maturity."

Chad Henne starting, Blake Bortles learning

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/26/2014) The Jaguars continue to say that Chad Henne, and not No. 3 overall pick Blake Bortles, will start at quarterback this season, reports NFL.com.

Henne started 13 games last season and threw for 3,241 yards, completing 61 percent of his passes, with 13 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

"I think it's been out there that our beliefs and our feelings is that we feel so strongly about Chad and he's going in, I think the team has really rallied around that," Bradley said. "Now, it has provided an atmosphere for Blake to really go out there and ask a lot of questions and gain a lot of information from all the quarterbacks that are in.

So how is Bortles doing with the transition from college to the NFL?

"He's doing a really good job, he's having more good days than days that maybe he's struggling, like all rookies have," Bradley saidd. "We're very excited about his development."

Blake Bortles would get shot if Chad Henne gets hurt

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/24/2014) The Jaguars plan to ease in rookie quarterback Blake Bortles, but he would be next in line if Chad Henne got hurt, reports the Florida Times-Union.

The report says it's "a guarantee" Bortles would be next in line if Henne was injured even though the Jaguars don't want to rush Bortles into action. Ricky Stanzi would be the only other quarterback candidate if Henne got hurt.

Despite Jags' claims, Blake Bortles could be Week 1 starter

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(5/14/2014) Although the Jaguars say Chad Henne will open 2014 as the starting quarterback, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora believes No. 3 overall pick Blake Bortles will establish himself "as the best quarterback on their roster in the preseason," prompting the team to start him Week 1.

"We're obviously a long way off, but Henne primarily has been a backup for a long time, and if the third overall pick looks anything like what you hope, even early on, then I could see Henne holding the clipboard again when real games start," La Canfora wrote.

Chad Henne still expected to start over Blake Bortles

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/9/2014) Even though the Jaguars drafted rookie quarterback Blake Bortles at No. 3 overall in the NFL Draft, the team remains committed to starting Chad Henne this season, reports the Florida Times-Union.

And that's OK with Bortles.

"To be able to sit for a year or two years, I'll be able to absorb, to learn, to be a sponge, to soak everything up," he said. "Chad has been there and doing it for years. It's something I look forward to."

Jaguars surprise with Blake Bortles at No. 3

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/8/2014) With the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft, the Jaguars selected quarterback Blake Bortles from Central Florida.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 232 pounds, Bortles posted 60 total touchdowns over his last two seasons (47 passing) with 6,339 yards on 490 of 750 passing (65.3 comp. pct.) over 26 games.

Chad Henne is expected to open the season as the starter, but Bortles can compete for the job in training camp. He is clearly the quarterback of the future for the Jaguars, and Bortles was the first quarterback taken in the 2014 NFL Draft ahead of Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater.

Even if Jags draft QB, Chad Henne still starter

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/1/2014) The Jaguars are planning to select a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft, but ESPN reports Chad Henne will still open the season as the starter.

The report says it is why they signed Henne to a two-year extension in March. Whoever the Jaguars draft will be asked "to learn the offense, adjust to the speed of the NFL game and develop his skills."

The report also adds "the offense belongs to Henne, and it's the right move for the Jaguars."

Bradley: Chad Henne will open as starter

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/7/2014) Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said quarterback Chad Henne is likely the starter even if the team drafts a quarterback at No. 3 overall, reports the Associated Press.

Henne signed a two-year, $8 million contract Friday with a $1.5 million signing bonus.

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

Report: Deal with Chad Henne coming soon

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/7/2014) Chad Henne and the Jaguars will reportedly agree to terms on a new contract before Saturday's free-agent window opens, the Florida Times-Union reports based on a tip from "inside EverBank Field." Despite a mediocre 2013 the Jaguars would like to bring Henne back in 2014.

Over 13 starts Henne completed 60.6 pct. of his passes for 3,241 yards and 13 touchdowns with 14 interceptions.

No tag for Jaguars, again

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/25/2014) For the second straight year, the Jaguars won't use the franchise tag, reports the Florida Times-Union. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew and quarterback Chad Henne are the biggest names headed to unrestricted free agency.

While the team hopes to sign Henne before free agency starts March 11, Jones-Drew is expected to test the market.

Jaguars, Chad Henne expected to reach deal before free agency

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/24/2014) The "best guess" is the Jaguars and Chad Henne will reach a contract agreement before the quarterback hits free agency March 11, reports ESPN.com. The websites notes Henne is the best quarterback on the roster and would serve as a good mentor to the quarterback Jacksonville drafts.

Jags GM doesn't expect Chad Henne to hit open market

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/20/2014) Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said he doesn't think quarterback Chad Henne will hit the free-agent market, reports the Florida Times-Union. The team and Henne's reps are meeting this week to discuss a new contract.

Gus Bradley wants Chad Henne back for leadership

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/5/2014) Although the Jaguars plan to draft a quarterback or two, coach Gus Bradley reiterated it's important to re-sign free agent quarterback Chad Henne.

“I thought he did a really good job leading our team," Bradley said, per the Florida Times-Union. "The competition that took place with him and Blaine [Gabbert] during OTAs and minicamp and training camp, he didn’t really flinch through the whole process and when he got his opportunity, he took advantage of it and we thought he made really good progress.

"We think, having a year under his belt, he will have a better understanding of the system and we’re really excited as far as what he brought to us leadership-wise.”

Jaguars owner: We could draft two quarterbacks

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/31/2014) Though he plans to reach out to 2013 starter and impending free agent quarterback Chad Henne before the open market begins in March, Jaguars owner Shad Khan said that "everybody knows" his team will draft a quarterback and "maybe two" in May, per the Florida Times-Union. The Jaguars own the third selection.

Henne started the last 11 games and performed well at times. He finished the year having completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,241 yards, 13 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Henne said he enjoys the culture of the team and it's a good fit for him.

In 15 games, Henne completed 60.6 percent of his passes for 3,241 yards and 13 touchdowns with 14 interceptions. He finished strong, throwing nine touchdowns against five interceptions in the last five games.
