Bengals formally cut Irons Bengals formally cut Irons Updated 8/4/2008
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: The official team web site reports that RB Kenny Irons has been waived off of Injured Reserve. He never took a regular-season snap with the club. Analysis: Irons was expected to be a future starter for the Bengals when he was drafted last year. But now he might have to just get healthy to prove he can still play. As of now it's safe to ignore Irons in all Fantasy leagues.

Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: The Bengals announced that RB Kenny Irons cleared waivers and was reverted back to the Bengals' PUP/reserve list for the 2008 season. He will not play this season. Analysis: Irons was expected to be a future starter for the Bengals when he was drafted last year. But now he might have to just get healthy to prove he can still play. As of now it's safe to ignore Irons in all Fantasy leagues.
Bengals waive Irons Bengals waive Irons Updated 7/25/2008
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: The Bengals waived RB Kenny Irons, under the category of Waived/Failed Physical, on Friday. Irons failed the team physical earlier this week. Irons, from Auburn, was Cincinnati's second-round choice in the 2007 draft. He has been unable to play or practice since suffering a torn left knee ligament (ACL) in the 2007 preseason opener last Aug. 9 at Detroit. He spent the 2007 season on Cincinnati's Reserve/Injured list. Analysis: Irons was expected to be the future starter for the Bengals when he was drafted last year. But now he might have to latch on with a new team just to prove he can still play. As of now it's safe to ignore Irons in all Fantasy leagues and see if a team will sign him this season.
Irons, Dorsey hurt Irons, Dorsey hurt Updated 7/23/2008
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Bengals RBs Kenny Irons (knee) and DeDe Dorsey (hamstring) are not expected to be ready for the first practices, coach Marvin Lewis said. Irons missed his entire rookie season, and Dorsey was hurt during minicamp. Analysis: Irons and Dorsey have minimal Fantasy value this season. With Rudi Johnson, Kenny Watson and Chris Perry on the depth chart ahead of Irons and Dorsey, both running backs can take their time coming back since the Bengals won't need them right away. It's safe to ignore Irons and Dorsey in all drafts.
Irons could start on PUP list Irons could start on PUP list Updated 7/18/2008
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: The return of RB Kenny Irons is unknown, reports the Bengals team web site. Irons, sidelined for nearly a year since tearing his ACL on the fourth carry of his NFL career, has grown weary of the entire rehab process. But also more determined because in the last month he has finally felt his body responding. A second-round pick out of Auburn, the quick and elusive Irons was supposed to give the Bengals out of the backfield what the oft-injured Chris Perry couldn't. It was thought he would be back this spring, but he says he's had a couple of setbacks stemming from a buildup of scar tissue. So he couldn't get on the field for the voluntary camps in May and June and since he's not sure when he can come back, that may mean he could be shelved until October by going on the PUP list. Analysis: It's safe to ignore Irons in most Fantasy drafts this summer. Hopefully he can come back at 100 percent during the year, but it remains to be seen how healthy he will be due to the knee injury. He also will be low on the depth chart behind Rudi Johnson, Kenny Watson and Perry.
Irons could miss start of camp Irons could miss start of camp Updated 5/9/2008
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Bengals RB Kenny Irons, the team's second-round draft pick in 2007, is not expected to be ready for the start of training camp in July. He tore an anterior cruciate ligament last August and missed the 2007 season. Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens, but this is not a good sign that he is scheduled to miss the start of training camp. The Bengals are considering adding RB Shaun Alexander, which would push Irons down on the depth chart. For now, Irons has minimal Fantasy value.
Irons still sidelined Irons still sidelined Updated 5/5/2008
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Bengals RB Kenny Irons, who missed 2007 with a torn ACL in his left knee, will not participate in the team's next minicamp May 13. Irons already missed the team's first minicamp. Analysis: Irons is trying to come back from the injury, which cost him his rookie year. Keep an eye on what happens, but this is not a good sign that he is missing minicamp at this time.
Irons on track for 2008 Irons on track for 2008 Updated 1/18/2008
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: Bengals rookie RB Kenny Irons, the team's second-round draft pick in 2007, who was lost for the season to a preseason knee injury, said he is on target to meet his goal of being medically cleared in time to participate in training camp next July. Irons was out with a torn ACL in his left knee. Analysis: Irons could be a major factor for the Bengals in 2008 with Rudi Johnson coming off a hamstring injury and owed a $3.2 million roster bonus. What could happen is Irons could be paired with Kenny Watson in a tandem. Consider drafting Irons in all leagues in 2008, especially if Johnson is cut due to salary-cap reasons.
Bengals rookie Irons out for '07 Bengals rookie Irons out for '07 Updated 8/10/2007
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: The Bengals announced Friday that rookie running back Kenny Irons tore his ACL in his left knee and will be out for the season. Irons hurt the knee in the team's first preseason game at Detroit. Irons had four carries for 17 yards, including an 11-yard gain, after replacing starter Rudi Johnson. Cincinnati is already without one of its reserve running backs, Chris Perry, who is still trying to come back after breaking his leg last season. Kenny Watson and Quincy Wilson shared the carries after Irons left the game. Analysis: Irons was a definite sleeper pick this season thanks to his speed and versatility as a backup and possible third-down back. He should no longer be considered in Fantasy drafts. Expect Watson and Wilson to vie for the right to back up Johnson (we like Watson's ability over Wilson's youth).
Rookie Irons banged up Thursday Rookie Irons banged up Thursday Updated 8/10/2007
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Kenny Irons injured his left knee and ankle Thursday night against the Detroit Lions and was taken to the locker room on a cart after hobbling off the field. Irons had four carries for 17 yards, including an 11-yard gain, after replacing starter Rudi Johnson in the exhibition opener for both teams. Cincinnati is already without one of its reserve running backs, Chris Perry, who is still trying to come back after breaking his leg last season. Kenny Watson and Quincy Wilson shared the carries after Irons left the game. Analysis: The second-round pick from Auburn was hurt when his foot appeared to get caught up in the artificial turf while making a stutter-step move. Injuries limited Irons to 893 yards last season after he ran for a Southeastern Conference-high average of 108 yards per game in 2005. Irons is competing for the backup role to Johnson. Consider taking Irons as insurance for Johnson in seasonal Fantasy leagues. In rookie drafts, Irons should be a middle-round selection. Hopefully the injury doesn't turn out to be too serious. Continue to watch out for further updates.
Irons does well, also fumbles Irons does well, also fumbles Updated 8/6/2007
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: According to the Cincinnati Post, rookie RB Kenny Irons showed off his speed during this past weekend's scrimmage and mock game, including rushing for 65 yards on 10 carries in the scrimmage. Irons had a lot of positives this weekend. There was also the one glaring negative of fumbling the football away after a 24-yard run in which he ran right, cut through the hole the offensive line had created for him and left a couple of defenders grasping at air. LB Ed Hartwell grabbed the ball and separated it from Irons. Analysis: Rudi Johnson is still going to get the majority of the carries for the Bengals - he has averaged 346 rushing attempts, 1,407 yards and 12 touchdowns the last three seasons - but Irons was drafted to give Johnson a break and present defenses with a different style. Consider taking Irons as insurance for Johnson in seasonal Fantasy leagues. In rookie drafts, Irons should be a middle-round selection.
Bengals ink RB Irons Thursday Bengals ink RB Irons Thursday Updated 7/26/2007
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: Running back Kenny Irons and four other draft choices signed contracts Thursday with the Cincinnati Bengals, who were set to open camp without their No. 1 pick. The Bengals also signed quarterback Jeff Rowe, a fifth-round pick from Nevada; defensive tackle Matt Toeaina, a sixth-round choice from Oregon; and center Dan Santucci and safety Chinedum Ndukwe, both seventh-round picks from Notre Dame. Analysis: Irons, a running back from Auburn who was a second-round pick, agreed to a four-year deal on the day players reported for the start of camp in Georgetown, Ky. Irons will push oft-injured RB Chris Perry for the third-down job with the Bengals, and he should beat him out considering Perry's inability to stay healthy. Assuming Irons does get that third-down gig, he'd be worth grabbing as a late-round pick in deeper leagues, especially by those owners who get Rudi Johnson
Bengals take RB Kenny Irons Bengals take RB Kenny Irons Updated 4/29/2007
Kenny Irons, RB CIN
News: The Bengals took Auburn running back Kenny Irons with a second-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Irons will help out fellow former Auburn Tiger Rudi Johnson with the rushing workload. Irons is a smallish back that is a home-run threat every time he gets the ball. He's a versatile option who can catch as well as run and should begin his career as a possible third-down back. Analysis: Irons will push oft-injured RB Chris Perry for the third-down job with the Bengals, and he should beat him out considering Perry's inability to stay healthy. Assuming Irons does get that third-down gig, he'd be worth grabbing as a late-round pick in all leagues, especially by those owners who get Rudi Johnson. If Irons doesn't get it, then Perry would be the late-round rusher to get (and keep an eye on it because many owners will just assume Perry gets the role). In keeper-league play, Irons is a middle- to late-round choice.
