Dolphins linebackers racking up tackles

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/22/2013) One Dolphins linebacker reached the 100-tackle mark in Week 16 against the Bills, and another stands at the precipice after a 19-0 loss.

Philip Wheeler led the team with 14 tackles -- eight solo -- to bring his total for the season to 109. That matches his career-high, set a year ago. Dannell Ellerbe is just six tackles short of the century mark, after his 10-stop game left him with 94 with one game left in the season.

Dannell Ellerbe comes up with big play

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/1/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe had a quiet game in Week 13 against the Jets, but did come up with one big play in a 23-3 win. Ellerbe had a season-low one tackle, but added an interception, his second of the season.

Ellerbe has 77 tackles on the season, and his previous low for a season was two stops.

Dannell Ellerbe quiet in loss vs. Panthers

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/24/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe didn't have a big game in Week 12 against the Panthers, as the Dolphins fell 20-16. Ellerbe had just six tackles -- five solo -- in the game, and added no other stats.

Dolphins defense missing just one in Week 12

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/24/2013) The Dolphins defense is largely healthy for Week 12 against the Panthers, as only Dimitri Patterson (groin) was unable to play through his injury Sunday.

Defensive backs Jimmy Wilson (abdomen), Reshad Jones (groin) and Chris Clemons (knee, shoulder) were joined on the active roster for Sunday's game by linebackers Dannell Ellerbe (knee) and Koa Misi (knee), as well as defensive lineman Derrick Shelby (ankle).

Defensive players dominate Dolphins injury report

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/22/2013) Only defensive players are listed on the Friday injury report released by the Dolphins. But most of them are probable and will almost certainly play against Carolina on Sunday.

The probables are cornerback Nolan Carroll (ankle), safety Chris Clemons (glute), linebackers Dannell Ellerbe (knee), Koa Misi (shoulder) and Jonathan Freeny (shoulder) and tackle Paul Soliai (knee).

Listed as questionable are end Cameron Wake (knee), linebacker Jason Trusnik (rib) and cornerback Don Jones (elbow). Fellow cornerback Dimitri Patterson (groin) is out.

Three Dolphins linebackers OK despite inclusion in injury report

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/15/2013) Three linebackers, including two starters, have been placed on the Dolphins injury report for Friday, but all will almost certainly play Sunday against the visiting Chargers. Dannell Ellerbe (knee), Jonathan Freeny (shoulder) and Koa Misi (shoulder) have all been deemed probable.

Dannell Ellerbe does it all in Week 10 loss

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/12/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe made 11 solo tackles in the Week 10 loss at Tampa Bay, six more than anyone on his team. It was Ellerbe's fourth game with double-digit tackles.

Ellerbe picked up his first sack and made two tackles for loss. He plays the Chargers in Week 11.

Dolphins DST struggles against the run

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/12/2013) The Dolphins DST allowed the Buccaneers to run for 140 yards in the Week 10 loss as Tampa Bay controlled the ball nearly 35 minutes. Three Buccaneers' backs found success running right at Miami.

The Dolphins created one turnover, a Jimmy Wilson interception, and got sacks from Dannell Ellerbe and Nolan Carroll. Marcus Thigpen returned a punt 34 yards. But overall it was a disappointing effort.

Miami's DST faces a tougher matchup Week 11 vs. San Diego.

Several Dolphins healthy enough for Monday Night Football

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/11/2013) Several Dolphins who were listed on the injury report are active for Monday's game at Tampa Bay. They include cornerback Nolan Carroll (concussion), safety Chris Clemons (hamstring), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (calf), guard Nate Garner (knee), linebacker Jelani Jenkins (foot), tight end Dion Sims (toe) and kicker Caleb Sturgis (groin).

All were listed as probable except for Jenkins, who was questionable.

Dolphins mostly healthy for Week 10 on defense

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/9/2013) The Dolphins defense is mostly in good shape for Week 10 against the Buccaneers, as only one player is expected to miss Monday's game due to injury. While Dimitri Patterson (groin) is considered doubtful, the team has five players listed as either questionable or probable for the game.

Linebackers Jelani Jenkins (foot) and Koa Misi (knee) were limited in practice throughout the week and are considered questionable, while the remainder of the team's injury report features probable players. They include: defensive backs Nolan Carroll (concussion) and Chris Clemons (hamstring); and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (calf).

Dannell Ellerbe snares first interception

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/1/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe had just four tackles in Week 9 against the Bengals Thursday, but managed to make an impact otherwise in a 22-20 overtime win.

Ellerbe picked off his first pass of the season, giving him just two interceptions for his career. He now has 55 tackles through the first eight games of the season.

Dannell Ellerbe leads the way despite shoulder injury

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/27/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe had no problems playing through a shoulder injury in Week 8, as he led the team in tackles in a 27-17 loss to the Patriots.

Ellerbe racked up 11 tackles -- two solo -- and added no other stats in the game.

Dolphins defense healthy Sunday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/27/2013) The Dolphins had five defensive players listed on the injury report for Week 8 against the Patriots, and all five were able to take the field Sunday. Linebackers Dannell Ellerbe (shoulder) and Koa Misi (knee), defensive backs Dimitri Patterson (groin) and Brent Grimes (back) and defensive lineman Cameron Wake (knee) were all considered probable and able to play through injury.

Dolphin defenders nearing green light for Sunday game

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/25/2013) Five of the finest Dolphins defensive players are all but certain to suit up Sunday at New England. They are listed as probable with various ailments.

Included are tackle Paul Soliai (knee), safety Chris Clemons (glute) and linebackers Jonathan Freeny (shoulder), Koa Misi (shoulder) and Dannell Ellerbe (knee).

Also probable is cornerback Nolan Carroll (ankle). Defensive end Cameron Wake (knee) and linebacker Jason Trusnik (rib) are questionable.

Dannell Ellerbe practices Wednesday with starters

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/23/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe is closing in on clearance to play Sunday against New England. He practiced with the starters Wednesday after missing the Week 7 loss to Buffalo with a shoulder injury, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Ellerbe is third on the team with 43 tackles. His presence provides further encouragement for the defense after end Cameron Wake and cornerback Dimitri Patterson returned from injuries last week.

Dannell Ellerbe unable to play Sunday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/20/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (shoulder) was officially doubtful for Week 7 against the Bills, and is unable to take the field on Sunday. Ellerbe is inactive for the first time this season.

Dolphins could be missing two on defense

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/18/2013) The Dolphins injury report is a lengthy one for Week 7 against the Bills, but most players are expected to play through their various maladies. Of seven players listed on the defensive side of the ball, only two are not considered probable.

Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (shoulder) was unable to practice throughout the week and is doubtful for Sunday, despite telling reporters earlier in the week he plans to play. He is joined by defensive back Dimitri Patterson (groin), who is questionable after a limited week in practice. Patterson has not played since Week 1 against the Browns.

Dannell Ellerbe still sidelined

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/18/2013) Each missed practice lessens the chance that Dolphins starting middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe will be cleared to play Sunday against Buffalo - and he missed another one on Friday. He was not on the field during the open portion of practice, the Miami Herald has reported.

Ellerbe hurt his shoulder in Week 5 and has been out ever since. His absence would likely open the door for Jason Trusnik to start against the Bills.

Dannell Ellerbe still out with shoulder injury

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/16/2013) The extra recovery time provided by the bye week might not be enough to get Dolphins starting middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe back into game action Sunday against Buffalo, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Ellerbe was absent Wednesday for the third straight practice with a shoulder injury.

Elllerbe, who incurred the injury in Week 5 against the Ravens, is his team's leading tackler with 40. His absence against the Bills could clear the way for Jason Trusnik to start at his position.

Dannell Ellerbe sidelined by shoulder injury

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/6/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Ravens in the first half, and was unable to return due to a shoulder injury. Ellerbe finished the game with just two tackles, and it is not clear how long he will be sidelined.

Fortunately, the Dolphins' bye week comes at a great time for Ellerbe. Miami is off in Week 6.

Dannell Ellerbe leaves with shoulder injury

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/6/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Ravens in the first half, after suffering a shoulder injury. As of halftime, he was still sidelined by the injury, and his return is officially questionable.

Dolphins defense largely healthy Sunday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/6/2013) The Dolphins lengthy list of injured defenders for Week 5 was nearly erased prior to kickoff Sunday, as only one player was sidelined by his injury.

Defensive backs Nolan Carroll (ankle), Chris Clemons (glute) and Don Jones (elbow) were able to take the field, while Dimitri Patterson (groin) was the only one forced to sit out.

Other injured players able to take the field for Miami included: linebackers Jason Trusnick (rib), Koa Misi (shoulder), Jonathan Freeny (shoulder) and Dannell Ellerbe (knee), along with defensive linemen Paul Soliai (knee) and Cameron Wake (knee).

Four top Dolphins defensive players listed as probable

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/4/2013) Several premier Dolphins defensive players are on the verge of getting the green light to play Sunday against Baltimore. They are cornerback Nolan Carroll (ankle), safety Chris Clemons (glute), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (knee) and defensive tackle Paul Soliai (knee). All have been designated as probable for the Week 5 game.

Dannell Ellerbe tied for third in NFL in tackles

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/1/2013) Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe shared the team lead with eight tackles against the Saints, making five solo stops. Ellerbe is tied for third in the NFL with 38 tackles, four behind leader Vontaze Burfict of Cincinnati.

Dolphins DST gets shellacked

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/1/2013) The injury-depleted Dolphins DST seemed helpless to stop Drew Brees and the Saints on Monday night. New Orleans rolled up 38 points and 465 total yards in the blowout.

Safety Jimmy Wilson forced a Darren Sproles fumble, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe recovering. Defensive ends Jared Odrick and Olivier Vernon each sacked Brees. But it was a long night for Miami's defense, which was on the field nearly 34 minutes.

The Dolphins DST has an easier matchup Week 5 against Baltimore.
