(8/8/2014) A toe injury will likely keep Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph sidelined for Saturday's preseason opener against the Cardinals in Arizona. The injury is considered to be serious and Joseph should be ready for the start of the regular season.

(7/26/2014) Texans standout cornerback Johnathan Joseph had a reunion of sorts with his teammates Saturday during the first day of camp. Rehab from foot surgery had forced him to miss all the minicamp activities.

"Just trying to get out there and just feel my way through it," Joseph told ESPN. "Stay on top of technique and on top of the playbook and just catch up with the rest of the guys you know from what I missed in the spring."

Joseph played 15 games last year and finished with 44 tackles and three interceptions.

The probables are defensive backs D.J. Swearinger (foot), Josh Victorian (back) and Johnathan Joseph (groin), linebackers Justin Tuggle (elbow) and Joe Mays (knee) and linemen Antonio Smith (knee) and J.J. Watt (hand).

Johnathan Joseph at his best in Week 15

(12/16/2013) Texans defensive back Johnathan Joseph had arguably his best game of the season Week 15 at Indianapolis. Not only did he record his third interception, picking off Andrew Luck in the first quarter, but he also had a season-high nine tackles, all solo.

Joseph is averaging just 3.4 tackles in 14 games this season.

(12/13/2013) Six defensive backs pepper the injury list submitted Friday by the Texans, but all are listed as probable for Sunday against Indianapolis.

They are cornerbacks Kareem Jackson (ribs), Johnathan Joseph (groin), Brice McCain (groin) and Josh Victorian (back). The safeties are Shiloh Keo (illness) and D.J. Swearinger (foot).

Linebackers Jeff Tarpinian (groin) and Darryl Sharpton (wrist) are also probable.


Texans defense largely healthy Thursday

(12/5/2013) The Texans' injury report for Week 14 featured a lengthy list of injured defenders, but all but one player from that side of the ball was able to take the field Thursday against the Jaguars. While defensive back Jawanza Starling (foot) was inactive prior to kickoff, 11 other injured players were able to play through their issues.

Defensive lineman Antonio Smith (not injury related), linebackers Joe Mays (knee), Mike Mohamed (hamstring), Darryl Sharpton (knee), Whitney Mercilus (hip) and Jeff Tarpinian (groin), and defensive backs Brice McCain (hamstring), Johnathan Joseph (groin), Kareem Jackson (ribs), D.J. Swearinger (foot) and Shiloh Keo (neck) are all in uniform Thursday.

Among those in the secondary are Kareem Jackson (ribs), Johnathan Joseph (groin), Shiloh Keo (neck), Jawanza Starling (hamstring) and D.J. Swearinger (foot).

The listed linebackers are Joe Mays (knee), Whitney Mercilus (hip), Mike Mohamed (hamstring), Darryl Sharpton (knee) and Jeff Tarpinian (groin). The lone lineman is Antonio Smith (not injury related).


Johnathan Joseph nets second interception

(12/2/2013) Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph picked off a Tom Brady pass during a 34-31 loss Week 13 vs. New England. It was his second interception this season and first since Week 4.

Joseph added three solo tackles Sunday and is up to 37 tackles (34 solo) in 12 games. He also has 14 pass defenses.

(10/4/2013) The Texans lengthy injury list for Week 5 against the 49ers belies the fact that the team is largely healthy heading into Sunday's game. For instance, of the eight players on the defensive side of the ball listed on the injury report, all but one are considered probable.

The eight players expected to play through injuries in Week 5 are: defensive end J.J. Watt (groin, nose); defensive backs Ed Reed (hip, abdomen), Eddie Pleasant (hamstring), Johnathan Joseph (not-injury-related) and Brice McCain (knee); and linebackers Bryan Braman (hamstring, shoulder) and Brian Cushing (concussion).

Joseph fine after hernia surgeries

(6/3/2013) Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph told Comcast Sportsnet that he's recovered after having two sports hernia surgeries this offseason. "With the groin issues and everything behind me and the sports hernia on both sides, I had both those fixed," Joseph said. "Now I have more pop, more explosion with my legs. I can run all day again. ... I'm feeling better than I've ever felt. I told somebody that yesterday. I was just excited that I got it fixed just to see where I am at on the field. And I'm having probably the best OTAs I've had in four or five years."
