Jerod Mayo suggests he'll be ready for training camp

(5/6/2014) Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo, who's coming back from a torn pectoral muscle, suggested he'll return for training camp in July, reports the Boston Herald. He's been working out at Gillette Stadium for a while.

"I don’t know how it will feel when we start going out there doing different things as far as a little bit of contact drills," Mayo said. "Even though there are no pads, you can still fall a certain way, so I’m just going to take it one day at a time and see how it goes."

Mayo is feeling stronger very day. "But once again, I won’t know until I get out there and start really playing the game of football," he said.

Although the team didn't officially list Mayo's injury, he tore a pectoral muscle during Sunday's game against the Saints, a league source told the Boston Globe.

(10/15/2013) Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo, who leads the team with 55 tackles, had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn pectoral muscle he suffered Week 6 against New Orleans, sources told Yahoo Sports. Mayo could be out for the season, the report said.

Mayo has 14 more tackles than any other Patriot, and also has 1 1/2 sacks. He made six tackles against the Saints before getting hurt.

Mayo suffered a shoulder injury after making a big tackle on Darren Sproles late in the fourth quarter. He finished with six total tackles (four solo) before getting hurt. He did not return for the remainder of the game.

(10/11/2013) Patriots outside linebacker Jerod Mayo has been on a tear and should be able to continue racking up tackles Sunday against New Orleans. He was a full participant in Friday practice and has been listed as probable with an ankle injury.

Mayo has 49 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks in five games, including an 11-tackle effort last week in the loss to Cincinnati in which he also contributed to a sack.

(10/7/2013) Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo was all over the field on Sunday during the Week 5 loss at Cincinnati. Mayo recorded 11 tackles and seven of them were solo stops.

Mayo also had half a sack for the Patriots' defense in the defeat. He defended one pass and now has 49 tackles on the season to go with 1 1/2 sacks.

Mayo appeared on the injury report heading into the Week 5 game due to an ankle injury. The Patriots play Week 6 at home against New Orleans.

Defensive backs Steve Gregory, Alfonzo Dennard and Kyle Arrington had six tackles apiece.

(9/23/2013) Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo led the team in tackles on Sunday during the 23-3 win at home against Tampa Bay. Mayo had nine tackles and five of them were solo stops.

Mayo had one sack in the game as he also managed to take down Josh Freeman of the Buccaneers. The sack was his first of the year. He now has 8 1/2 for his career. Mayo has 30 tackles in three games this season and is averaging 10 per contest thus far.

Mayo, who totaled 88 solo tackles in 2012, averaged about nine tackles per game last season.
