Two out, but Steelers otherwise healthy heading into Week 5

(10/3/2014) As expected, the Steelers have ruled out cornerback Ike Taylor (forearm) and linebacker Ryan Shazier (knee) for their Sunday game in Jacksonville.

The other players on their injury report submitted Friday are probable. They are wide receivers Martavis Bryant (illness) and Markus Wheaton (groin), linebacker James Harrison (illness), guard Ramon Foster (ankle) and tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle).

The healthy scratches are wideout Martavis Bryant, quarterback Landry Jones, nose tackle Daniel McCullers and offensive lineman Wesley Johnson.

(9/26/2014) Cornerback Ike Taylor and linebacker Ryan Shazier are out, but the Steelers are otherwise in good shape for their Sunday clash against visiting Tampa Bay. Only one other player on their Friday injury report has been designated any worse than probable. That is guard Ramon Foster (ankle), who is questionable.

The probables are running back Dri Archer (ankle) and wideout Darrius Heyward-Bey (ankle). Standouts such as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, tight end Heath Miller, safety Troy Polamalu and defensive end Brett Keisel are all probable with non-injury related issues.

Running back Dri Archer (ankle) is doubtful while guard Ramon Foster (ankle) is questionable. (11/17/2013) The Steelers have made S Shamarko Thomas, LB LaMarr Woodley, G Ramon Foster, DE Brett Keisel, QB Landry Jones, WR Derek Moye and TE Rich Gordon inactive Week 11 against the Lions. 

Thomas was the only player ruled out Friday. Woodley was doubtul with a calf injury. Both Keisel and Foster were questionable, but will not play.

(11/15/2013) The Steelers list 10 players on their Friday injury report, but six are probable. The only player ruled out for the Sunday game against Detroit is safety Shamarko Thomas (ankle).

Designated as doubtful is linebacker LaMarr Woodley (calf) while defensive end Brett Keisel (foot) and guard Ramon Foster (ankle) are questionable.

Five of the probables are offensive linemen. They are Fernando Velasco (knee), Marcus Gilbert (ankle), David DeCastro (ankle), Kelvin Beachum (hip) and Mike Adams (ribs). Tight end Heath Miller (not injury related) is also probable.

(11/11/2013) Steelers guard Ramon Foster suffered a Grade 1 high ankle sprain in the second half Sunday against the Bills, which could keep him out for a few weeks, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Foster was sporting a protective boot after Sunday's game.

Four Steelers probables should play Week 9

(11/3/2013) Steelers G Ramon Foster, DT Steve McLendon, LB Lawrence Timmons and OL Guy Whimper are active Week 9 against the Patriots. 

Foster had been dealing with a concussion, but was cleared to play. McLendon's issues were related to an illness. Timmons has a hand injury, but it's not considered serious. Whimper had a knee issue.

The others are guard Ramon Foster (concussion), defensive tackle Steve McLendon (illness), linebacker Lawrence Timmons (hand) and tackle Guy Whimper (knee).

(11/1/2013) The Steelers expect to have starting guard David DeCastro available for the game Sunday against the Patriots despite the fact that he did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, the team website has reported. DeCastro sustained an ankle injury in Week 8 in Oakland.

The Steelers also lost fellow starting guard Ramon Foster to a concussion against the Raiders. He has yet to be cleared for the game against New England.


Steelers coach provides updates on injured offensive linemen

(10/29/2013) Steelers coach Mike Tomlin gave updates Tuesday on the three offensive linemen who suffered injuries Week 8 at Oakland.

Tomlin said Ramon Foster has been cleared to practice after suffering a concussion and should be good to play Week 9 at New England. Tomlin also said Guy Whimper, who suffered a hyperextended knee, should be good to play Sunday.

As for David DeCastro, who suffered an ankle injury, Tomlin said he will be limited early in the practice might and his status for Week 9 remains uncertain.

(10/27/2013) Steelers guard Ramon Foster was forced out of Sunday's game against the Raiders in Week 8 with a concussion.  Foster suffered the injury in the second quarter and was taken out of the game to be evaluated. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The Steelers will play at New England in Week 9.

Foster said he felt minimal pain ad expressed confidence to the media that he will play Sunday against the Jets. He has started all four games this season, but left the last one with the injury.

(10/8/2013) Steelers offensive lineman Ramon Foster, who suffered a strained pectoral muscle Week 4, said he isn't sure if he can play Week 6 at N.Y. Jets. The Steelers are coming off a bye Week 5.

"Hopefully, there wasn't a tear," he said. "It's just pain tolerance. We'll have to wait and see how it is by Sunday."
