Falcons WR Roddy White wants team to have more balance

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(6/15/2015) It seems odd for a wide receiver to want his team to throw less, but Falcons veteran Roddy White is hoping the team's new coaching staff creates a more balanced offensive attack, per the team's website.

The Falcons ran the ball just 23.2 times last year while quarterback Matt Ryan threw the second-most passes in the league. That certainly helped White's numbers, as he finished with 80 receptions for 921 yards and four TDs, but the wideout wants to see the Falcons establish the run, even if it comes at the cost of his numbers.

"I just don't think we're going to go out there and throw it 30, 40 times a game like we did in the past," White said. "I'm not saying that we didn't like that, but it's going to be different. We have to get back to our old (style) where we run the football. Play-action passes and convert on third downs."

Falcons' Roddy White: 'I feel I could play two or three more years'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/7/2015) Although Falcons wide receiver Roddy White turned 33 years old during the 2014 season, he told 680 The Fan on Wednesday he still feels his playing career is not close to being over, per the team's official website.

"Actually, I feel pretty good. Throughout the end of the season, I felt like my legs were under me," White said. "I wish I hadn't missed two games. That was my goal this year, to get through the year completely healthy, but that didn't happen for me. I feel I could play two or three more years, if I could just stay healthy through the whole course of a season and not miss any games."

White capped his 10th season in the NFL with 80 catches for 921 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games.

"I feel like I'm playing at a really good level," White said. "Any time you can go out there and catch 80 passes in the NFL, you're doing pretty good. I feel like I can play another two or three years and be successful."

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(12/18/2014) Falcons receivers Roddy White (ankle) and Harry Douglas (foot) returned to practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday, reports ESPN.com. With Julio Jones (hip) in danger of missing his second straight game Sunday at New Orleans, White and Douglas could be heavily targeted again.

White and Douglas combined for 17 catches on 24 targets for 189 yards and a touchdown Week 15 against Pittsburgh.

Harry Douglas among Falcons wideouts watching Wednesday

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(12/17/2014) Like starters Julio Jones (hip) and Roddy White (ankle), Falcons receiver Harry Douglas (foot) was held out of practice Wednesday. White and Douglas are expected to play Sunday at New Orleans, while Jones' status won't be decided until shortly before kickoff.

Normally the No. 3 receiver, Douglas started in Jones' place Week 15 and caught 10 passes for 131 yards. He figures to be targeted heavily Sunday if Jones sits out again.

The Falcons are 6-point underdogs at every major Las Vegas sportsbook.

Falcons WR Roddy White sets TD mark in Sunday loss

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/14/2014) Falcons standout wideout Roddy White took advantage of single coverage to score his fourth touchdown in five games Sunday against Pittsburgh. He snagged one five minutes into the fourth quarter.

That touchdown was significant - it was the 62nd of his career, which gives him the all-time Atlanta record.

White was otherwise just OK in the loss to the Steelers. He finished with seven catches for 58 yards. He can add on to his touchdown mark when the team plays at New Orleans next Sunday.

Falcons give thumbs-up to probables against Pittsburgh

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/14/2014) The Falcons have green-lighted all their probables for the Sunday game against the Steelers, including wideout Roddy White (ankle), who could play a huge role considering the absence of Julio Jones.

The other cleared probables are guards Jon Asamoah and Justin Blalock, both with back ailments, wide receiver Harry Douglas (foot) and defensive tackle Paul Soliai (shoulder).

Roddy White, Harry Douglas could find success in Week 15

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/12/2014) With Julio Jones looking unlikely to play in Week 15 against the Steelers, the Falcons' receiving corps will be asked to do more. That could spell good things for Roddy White and Harry Douglas' Fantasy value for this Sunday's game.

Jones is questionable, but was unable to practice all week with a hip injury, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he sits. White hauled in a touchdown last week, and has the ability to put up a big line as the No. 1 option, if he can prove the ankle is behind him. It is Douglas, however, who stands to gain the most if Jones can't play.

Douglas is owned in just 34 percent of CBSSports.com leagues during what has been a disappointing season, but he has still shown flashes. He hauled in nine passes for 116 yards as recently as Week 13, and showed what he is capable of throughout the 2013 season, when he finished with 1,067 yards.

The Steelers have been getting carved up by wide receivers in the second half of the season, especially of late. Over the last three games, opposing receivers are averaging 31 Fantasy points against them, with five touchdowns . If Jones can't go, Douglas and White should step into larger roles, and have value as starting Fantasy options.

(12/12/2014) Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones (hip) is the most notable player listed as questionable for Week 14 against Pittsburgh. other players deemed questionable were fullback Patrick DiMarco (illness) and safety William Moore (foot).

Guard Jon Asamoah (back), guard Justin Blalock (back), wide receiver Harry Douglas (foot), defensive end Stansly Maponga (elbow), defensive tackle Paul Soliai (shoulder) and wide receiver Roddy White (ankle) were all labeled as probable.

Meanwhile, cornerback Robert Alford (wrist) was the only player on the report ruled out for Sunday.

Health not biggest concern for Roddy White

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/9/2014) After missing a game with an ankle injury, Falcons wide receiver Roddy White was able to return and play all but four of the team's snaps Week 14 at Green Bay. But you wouldn't know it by his production. He caught just three passes for 42 yards, down from an average of 7.4 for 81.8 in his previous five games. A fourth-quarter touchdown was all that saved him from being a complete bust in Fantasy.

The problem wasn't so much his ankle as what was happening on the other side of the field. Quarterback Matt Ryan found Julio Jones 10 times for 189 yards with White out in Week 13 and apparently liked it so much that he went back to him 11 times for 259 yards against the Packers. Even on a day when he threw for 375 yards, that didn't leave much for anyone else.

White thrived during the weeks when the Falcons offensive line was at its worst, forcing Ryan to rely mostly on short and intermediate passes. But things have jelled enough that he can go deep again, and Jones' skill set is perfect for that.

Of course, if the hip injury Jones suffered late in Week 14 costs him some time, White suddenly becomes Ryan's No. 1 target again, likely leading stud numbers in Fantasy. But as the second fiddle, he's marginal. In an expected shootout Week 15 against Pittsburgh, he's probably no better than a flex option in standard leagues.

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst

While White ranked second on the team in targets, he was a distant second to Julio Jones' 17. White's 1-yard fourth-quarter score was his sixth touchdown this season, third in his past four games.

He'll play the Steelers in Week 15.
