Falcons list inactives for Week 3

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/18/2014) The Falcons have listed QB Sean Renfree, CB Javier Arenas, LB Tyler Starr, C James Stone, OL Ryan Schraeder, WR Roddy White and DT Cliff Matthews as inactive Week 3 against the Buccaneers.

White was considered questionable entering the week, though he was unable to get through practice. The news bodes well for Jake Matthews and Prince Shembo. Both players were listed as probable on the injury report, and are active.

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

CBS reporter not expecting Roddy White to play Thursday

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/18/2014) CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora speculates Falcons wide receiver Roddy White will not play Thursday against the Bucs due to a hamstring injury. He is listed as questionable.

Roddy White has played plenty of games without practicing

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/17/2014) Falcons receiver Roddy White wasn't on the field for Wednesday's walkthrough. He has not practiced all week ahead of Thursday's game with the Buccaneers.

But coaches and teammates expect White, who is questionable with a hamstring injury, to play and play well.

"Roddy has played plenty of games in his career without practice," offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said. "Roddy has been in this offense for seven, eight years, since coach [Mike] Murlarkey came before me. Sometimes, you're worried about players, assignment-wise. But on a short week, you're not putting a complicated game plan [together] anyway. All the stuff that's in this game plan, Roddy knows it. When it's an experienced guy like Roddy, it's way more about his health than about 'Is he going to know what to do?'

"If Roddy's healthy, if he's able to go full speed, he'll play good."

Fellow wideout Julio Jones told ESPN.com that White is "going to be fine. He always comes back."

'No doubt' Roddy White plays Thursday

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/17/2014) There is "no doubt" Falcons receiver Roddy White will play Thursday against the Buccaneers, "barring some dramatic occurrence between now and game time," reports ESPN.com. White sat out practice this week to give his hamstring injury time to heal.

Roddy White questionable for TNF

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/17/2014) Falcons receiver Roddy White is officially questionable for Thursday night's game against the Buccaneers. White did not practice Monday or Tuesday, but coach Mike Smith indicated rest is more important than practice for the veteran wideout.

Falcons resting Roddy White because of quick turnaround

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/16/2014) Even though Falcons wide receiver Roddy White was absent from Tuesday's practice due to a hamstring injury, coach Mike Smith seemed more concerned about resting White for the short turnaround for Thursday's game against the Bucs than the injury.

"It's not important for Roddy to practice,'' Smith said, per ESPN. "We'd like for Roddy to practice, but it's all about getting Roddy ready on a short week. And some of these guys across the league that have some age with them, on a short week, you've got to get them to Thursday. And that's our intention.

"Right now, our goal is to have Roddy as healthy as he can be for the ball game on Thursday night.''

Roddy White unable to practice Tuesday

Roddy White held out of practice

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/15/2014) Falcons receiver Roddy White did not practice Monday due to a hamstring injury, reports the team's website. Atlanta has a short week to prepare for Thursday's home game against the Buccaneers.

Roddy White not much of a factor

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/14/2014) One week after quarterback Matt Ryan threw for a career-high 448 yards, the Falcons passing game couldn't get anything going Week 2 at Cincinnati, and wide receiver Roddy White was one of those who suffered.

The Falcons weren't finding as much room after the catch as they did against the Saints in Week 1, which means their short passes remained just that -- short passes. As a result, quarterback Matt Ryan threw for only 60 yards in the first half, with White picking up 15 of them on three catches.

The Falcons stretched the field a little more in the second half, but Julio Jones was the prime beneficiary there. White finished with five catches for 42 yards. His eight targets tied him with Harry Douglas for second-most on the team, but Jones had 13.

White, who scored a touchdown in Week 1, will look to get back in the end zone in Week 3, but he won't have as much time to prepare. The Falcons host the Buccaneers on Thursday night.

Roddy White just fine for Week 2

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/14/2014) Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, who was able to practice in full Friday after being limited Wednesday and Thursday, is officially active for Week 2 at Cincinnati. He was listed as probable on Friday's injury report.

White fell on his left knee at the end of the first half in Week 1 but was able to finish out the game. He had five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Roddy White probable for Week 2

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/12/2014) Falcons wide receiver Roddy White is officially probable for Week 2 against the Bengals Sunday, after getting through Friday's practice.

White had been limited earlier in the week by a knee injury, but maintained throughout that he expected to play Sunday. White had five receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, despite suffering the injury.

Roddy White seems good to go for Friday's practice

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/12/2014) Falcons wide receiver Roddy White was in full gear for Friday's practice according to ESPN.com, after being limited with a knee injury the previous two days. He has maintained throughout the week he expects to play in Week 2 against the Bengals Sunday, and Friday's practice seems to indicate that is what will happen.

Roddy White: 'I'm ready to go' for Week 2

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/11/2014) Falcons wide receiver Roddy White reiterated Thursday he will be ready to play Week 2 against the Bengals despite being limited Wednesday because of his knee. White fell on his left knee near the end of the first half during Sunday's win against the Saints, but he returned after halftime and finished out the game.

White said he had some concern about the injury after he had the same knee drained during the offseason.

"I'm feeling really good," White said Thursday, per ESPN. "It did kind of scare me. But after that, my adrenaline started pumping, got back in there and caught some passes. Got back on Monday and felt a little sore but now, I'm ready to go."

White admitted, however, he probably will have a scaled-back practice plan at times during the season.

"Me and [Coach Mike Smith], we're on a good program," White said. "He wants me to do certain things on Wednesdays and go out there and run around and get a little bit done and then Thursday, practice as hard as I can. And Friday, be as fast as I can because we have to do timing things. We have things in the game plan that we have to get done. And me and Matt [Ryan] have to be on the same page."

Roddy White limited with knee injury

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/10/2014) Falcons receiver Roddy White was limited in practice Wednesday with a knee injury, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He's fully expected to start Sunday at Cincinnati.

Falcons emphasizing four-receiver look

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/10/2014) The Falcons are putting a new emphasis on a four-receiver set featuring Julio Jones, Roddy White, Harry Douglas and Devin Hester, reports ESPN.com. The lineup "worked wonders" against the Saints as Matt Ryan threw for 448 yards in a 37-34 overtime win, the report said.

Atlanta plays with one running back and no tight ends in that formation.

New season starts right for Roddy White

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/7/2014) Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, who was limited for the first two-thirds of last season by a high ankle sprain suffered in training camp, looked plenty prepared or the start of this season Week 1 against the Saints.

He came up especially big in the first half, catching the team's first touchdown pass of the season -- a 2-yarder in the second quarter -- and making a leaping 39-yard grab with less than 10 seconds to go in the half, setting the Falcons up for a 40-yard field goal. He landed hard on the play and went to the locker room immediately afterward with what the team described as a knee injury, but he was back for the start of the second half.

In all, White had five catches for 72 yards, making him one of four receivers with at least five catches and one of five to go for at least 50 yards. His seven targets tied him with Harry Douglas for second-most on the team.

White didn't put up numbers that good until Week 13 of last season. He'll look to keep it going Week 2 at Cincinnati.

Roddy White looks to pick up where he left off

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/2/2014) Falcons wide receiver Roddy White didn't do much in his two games against the Saints last year, catching a combined four passes for 43 yards. But he was still slowed by a high ankle sprain in those games -- an injury that dated back to the preseason.

He eventually overcame the injury to average 8.6 catches for 100.4 yards in his final five games, but of course, Julio Jones was sidelined for those games, giving White less competition for looks. Still, his recovery shows he still has plenty left in the tank at age 32, which bodes well for him entering a new season, this time at full health.

The Saints did rank second against the pass last year, allowing 194.1 yards per game, but quarterback Matt Ryan averaged 298.0 yards through the air in his two starts against them last year. White also has a history of success against the Saints, including a seven-catch, 114-yard performance against them in 2012 and an 11-catch, 127-yard performance against them in 2011.

He may lose some looks with Jones back on the lineup, but based on the way White finished last season, Jamey Eisenberg and Dave Richard both consider him a top-15 wide receiver for this week.

Julio Jones' goal: 1,500-plus yards for himself and Roddy White

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/6/2014) Falcons receiver Julio Jones told Fox Sports that he and Roddy White both could eclipse 1,500 receiving yards. No NFL team ever has had two wideouts surpass that number in a season.

"I think it’s possible, absolutely," quarterback Matt Ryan said. "When you look at what Roddy has done historically here, he’s always been consistent. I think everybody knows what he’s capable of doing. Julio has had three really good years when he has been healthy. Last year through five games, certainly he was on pace to do that.

"I’m lucky to have two of the best guys and the best tandem in the NFL. I think they’re both going to have big years."

Roddy White not expected to be limited in camp

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/25/2014) Falcons receiver Roddy White, who dealt with a high ankle sprain and hamstring injury last year, isn't sure if he'll be limited at all during the early portion of training camp, reports ESPN.

"I don't know," he said. "I haven't gone over the schedule or anything yet. But probably not, because I didn't do too many OTAs [organized team activities]. We've got to work on timing."

Falcons give Roddy White a contract extension

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/24/2014) The Falcons announced a four-year extension for receiver Roddy White on Thursday. It should keep him with the team for the rest of his career.

White, 32, had a down year in 2013 because he tried to play through a high-ankle sprain. But he finished the season strong with 43 catches for 502 yards and two scores in his last five games. He's expected to keep up that kind of production this season as part of the team's one-two punch at receiver alongside Julio Jones.

Julio Jones, Roddy White aim to be top tandem

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/26/2014) Falcons receiver Julio Jones said when healthy, he and Roddy White are the best receiver tandem in the NFL, reports ESPN.

"When you step on the field, you should feel that you're the best, you and whoever your partner is," Jones said. "I feel like me and Roddy, we're the best when we step on the field. We take it as a challenge every year: We want to go out and show everybody we're the best one-two in the league."

The key for Jones and White is staying on the field. Last season, Jones played in just five games after suffering a season-ending fracture in his right foot while White was hobbled by hamstring and ankle injuries.

"We weren't there to play in the party," White said. "But this year, we're going to be there to play in the party. So at the end of the season, we'll come together, and then we'll see what happens."

Roddy White needs rest, won't participate in minicamp

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(6/17/2014) The Falcons announced wideout Roddy White will be held out of the team's mandatory minicamp this week so he can rest. White, 32, will be back for training camp.

He dealt with ankle and hamstring injuries last season, missing the first two games of his nine-year career and failing to surpass 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2006.

Roddy White arrested Tuesday

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/18/2014) Falcons receiver Roddy White was arrested early Tuesday on a failure to appear warrant, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The report says White, whose full name is Sharod Lamar White, was arrested by Gwinnett County police in Georgia and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail just before 4:30 a.m. He was released about 90 minutes later on $168 bond, according to jail records.

White allegedly failed to appear in court on a traffic charge out of Dacula. The Gwinnett sheriff’s website shows an outstanding warrant for White on a charge of "non-transparent material on windows."
