News: Raiders QB Charlie Frye was placed on injured reserve Thursday after undergoing surgery to repair a ligament in his right wrist. Head coach Tom Cable said Frye would need "a good four months" to recover.
Analysis: Frye has started just five games over the last three seasons after starting 13 games for Cleveland in 2006. He would not have seen much playing time again in 2010 behind Jason Campbell, so he wasn't expected to have an impact in Fantasy. Now that his season is over, he can be ignored in all leagues.
News: Raiders QB Charlie Frye will have a "procedure" on his injured right wrist on Wednesday, coach Tom Cable said Tuesday. "We'll know more after that," he said. Frye suffered the injury early in camp and has been unable to throw.
Analysis: Frye is merely batting for the backup role to Jason Campbell. Although, Bruce Gradkowski is probably a better option than Frye. It's safe to ignore Frye on Draft Day since he won't have a starting job at the beginning of the season.
News: Raiders backup QB Charlie Frye, who has been sidelined since injuring his right wrist on Aug. 5, is scheduled to see a hand specialist on Tuesday, coach Tom Cable said on Sunday. Frye is still unable to throw.
Analysis: Despite moving up the depth chart once Oakland got rid of JaMarcus Russell, Frye isn't cloe to being the starting quarterback. Frye is fighting for the No. 3 QB spot on the Raiders, so his Fantasy value is pretty low. He should be ignored on Draft Day in all leagues.
News: The Raiders have released former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell after three unproductive and highly paid seasons. Senior executive John Herrera said the move was made Thursday and that "we wish him well." The decision comes less than two weeks after Oakland acquired Jason Campbell from Washington to take over at quarterback. Russell will now likely be considered the biggest draft bust in NFL history. He will have been paid more than $39 million by the Raiders, while producing only seven wins as a starter. He lost his starting job midway through last season. His career has been hampered by a rookie holdout, poor work habits, being overweight and the lack of productive players around him. With Russell gone, Bruce Gradkowski, Kyle Boller and Charlie Frye remain on the roster with Campbell.
Analysis: We expect Gradkowski to be the No. 2 QB for the Raiders with Boller as the No. 3 option. Neither Boller or Frye have much Fantasy value this year, and both should be ignored on Draft Day.
News: The Redskins traded QB Jason Campbell to Oakland on Saturday in exchange for the Raiders' fourth-round pick in the 2012 draft. The Redskins were able to part with Campbell after acquiring Donovan McNabb in a trade with Philadelphia earlier this offseason. Campbell agreed to a contract with Oakland that will pay him $3.14 million in 2010, plus a $100,000 workout bonus and $4.5 million in 2011, according to a league source. Campbell expects to start immediately as he joins an unimpressive group of quarterbacks that includes JaMarcus Russell, Charlie Frye, Kyle Boller and Bruce Gradkowski.
Analysis: Frye could be out of a job following this move since the Raiders will likely carry three quarterbacks into the season, and Campbell and Gradkowski are ahead of Frye on the depth chart. Even if Frye makes the final roster he has minimal Fantasy value and should not be drafted in any leagues.
News: Raiders QB Charlie Frye, making his third straight start in place of injured Bruce Gradkowski, had a good first half Week 17 against the Raiders, completing 18 of 25 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. He left the game at halftime, though, with back and ankle injuries.
Analysis: Frye actually looked like a legitimate NFL quarterback against one of the better defenses in the league, but he took so many hits he had to come out at halftime. The former Browns starter is destined to spend the rest of his career as a reserve, so don't expect to see him starting for the Raiders or any other team in 2010. He should go undrafted in Fantasy.
News: Oakland QB Bruce Gradkowski (knees) has been ruled out of the team's Week 17 game against Baltimore. Charlie Frye is expected to get the start for the third week in a row.
Analysis: Gradkowski played well in his limited chances this season but his season is now over. Unless he has a starting gig in 2010, which is unlikely, he will go undrafted in most leagues. Frye is not a recommended Fantasy option outside of the deepest of formats.
News: Raiders QB Charlie Frye threw for 333 yards in Week 16 at Cleveland, but he did not throw a touchdown pass and intercepted three times. He also rushed twice for 13 yards.
Analysis: Frye completed 26 of 45 passes against his former team and had a somewhat productive game outside of the interceptions, though he couldn't lead his team on a single touchdown drive. Frye is not a recommended Fantasy QB in any league for Week 17 against the Ravens.
News: Oakland Raiders quarterback Charlie Frye has been cleared to play after sustaining a concussion against Denver last week and will start Sunday's game against his former team, the Browns. After undergoing a series of tests this week, Frye was cleared by team doctors and practiced without restrictions all week.
Analysis: Even as the starting quarterback for the Raiders, Frye really has no Fantasy value. Start him only as a last-minute, last-ditch, injury-replacement option.
News: A late-game comeback against the rival Denver Broncos looked as if it could be just the springboard JaMarcus Russell needed to get his struggling career back on track. The problem is it might not even get him his starting job with the Oakland Raiders back. A day after Russell threw the game-winning touchdown pass with 35 seconds left in a 20-19 victory over the Broncos, coach Tom Cable said he would wait until Wednesday to announce his starting quarterback for this week's game in Cleveland. Bruce Gradkowski would get the nod if he has recovered from his two sprained knees, and Charlie Frye would be next up assuming he gets over the concussion that knocked him out Sunday and gave Russell the chance to lead the comeback. Cable wasn't exactly gushing Monday in responding to a question about whether Russell's game-winning drive proved that he can still be the quarterback to lead the Raiders in the future. "There were some things in that game yesterday that he could have taken advantage of, before that last throw, or the last couple of throws and all that, would have really put that, in my mind, to make that kind of statement," Cable said.
Analysis: Cable called Frye the second option behind Gradkowski but both players depend on their healthy for their status this week in Cleveland. Frye seems a long shot as it isn't usual to return from a concussion one week after it happened. He'd not be worth using in Fantasy play, anyway, in Cleveland.
News: Raiders QB Charlie Frye left Week 15 at Denver in the fourth quarter after taking a blow to the head from linebacker Andra Davis. Frye threw for just 68 yards and an interception before exiting the game.
Analysis: Frye seemed to be suffering from an apparent concussion, but he remained on the sideline. For Frye, his first start of the season did not go anything like he would have expected. He should remain sidelined in all leagues even if he is able to play against his former team in Cleveland in Week 16. His upside is extremely limited.
News: Raiders head coach Tom Cable told Denver reporters Wednesday that QB Charlie Frye, not JaMarcus Russell, will start the team's Week 15 game at the Broncos. Starter Bruce Gradkowski has a knee injury that will sideline him for possibly the rest of the season. Frye has been the Raiders' third-string quarterback this year. "It will be good to get back out there with the offense and run some plays that aren't on cards," Frye joked. "I've got a lot of fire in me. I've been that crutch and that supportive guy all season, so now it's my turn to be the fiery leader."
Analysis: Neither Raiders QB is worth starting in Fantasy, especially in this impossible matchup, so this shouldn't impact any Fantasy owners. But with Russell passed over for Frye, and with the team reportedly signing J.P. Losman, the future is not bright for the former No. 1 overall draft pick.
News:Bruce Gradkowski is doubtful to start at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders this week because of sprained ligaments in both knees. Coach Tom Cable said Monday he won't know Gradkowski's status until Wednesday. Cable says if Gradkowski can't play, he will "do what's best for this team," which could be starting third-stringer Charlie Frye instead of former starter JaMarcus Russell. Russell replaced Gradkowski in the second half of Oakland's 34-13 loss to Washington on Sunday. He led the Raiders to three points and only 39 yards in the half. Russell was sacked six times and showed little improvement from the play that led to his benching earlier this season. Oakland (4-9) had won two of the first three games started by Gradkowski.
Analysis: The most important news here for Fantasy purposes is that Gradkowski is likely going to take a seat for Week 15 against the Broncos. He'd been playing well as the starter and deserved some Fantasy consideration in the deepest of leagues. That said, if he can't go and the job falls to Russell or Frye, neither player is worth using for Week 15. They just haven't proven successful enough while in the game for the Raiders.
News: Oakland has listed the following players as inactive for Week 13 at Pittsburgh: WR Nick Miller, DL Greg Ellis, QB Charlie Frye, WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, LB David Nixon and WR Javon Walker.
Analysis: Ellis started the season with four sacks in his first five games but has since managed only one quarterback takedown. Life is a lot tougher in Oakland than Dallas. Don't start Ellis in Week 13. He is a low-end Fantasy start when healthy. The rest of the players listed above have very little Fantasy value as well.
News: Oakland WR Todd Watkins, LB Jon Alston, WR Javon Walker, WR Nick Miller, DL William Joseph and QB Charlie Frye have all been listed as inactive for the team's Week 11 games against the Bengals.
Analysis: None of these players ever do enough statistically to matter in standard Fantasy leagues. Leave them all on waivers.
News: A day after benching JaMarcus Russell for the second time in three games, Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable is undecided about his starting quarterback. Cable said Monday he has yet to determine whether Russell, Bruce Gradkowski or Charlie Frye will start this week's game against Cincinnati. "We haven't gotten anywhere with that decision," Cable said. "We hoped to be able to talk about it now but we're not ready to do that. We don't have enough time yet to get everybody that would be involved in it to have those discussions."
Analysis: Russell started the first nine games but was benched late in the third quarter of Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs after going 8 for 23 for 64 yards. Gradkowski replaced Russell and went 5 of 9 for 49 yards and two interceptions but strained a hamstring. The No. 1 overall draft pick in 2007, Russell has struggled all season. He has two touchdowns passes, nine interceptions and a 47.1 completion percentage. He has been booed at every home game since the season opener on Sept. 14 and has been frequently criticized for his work habits and lack of preparation. Whether Russell, Gradkowski or Frye start Week 11 against Cincinnati is irrelevant as none would be a recommended option.
News: Oakland QB Charlie Frye, WR Todd Watkins, OLB Ricky Brown, WR Javon Walker, WR Nick Miller and DE Greg Ellis have all been listed as inactive for the team's Week 10 game against the Chiefs.
Analysis: None of these players ever does enough statistically to matter in standard Fantasy leagues. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The Raiders' list of inactives for Week 8 at San Diego includes LB Ricky Brown, WR Chaz Schilens, TE Tony Stewart, WR Nick Miller and QB Charlie Frye.
Analysis: None of these players ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: RB Darren McFadden, LG Robert Gallery, RT Cornell Green, WR Chaz Schilens and LB Ricky Brown -- are among the Raiders inactive players for todays game against the Jets. OT Langston Walker and WR Nick Miller are also inactive. Charlie Frye is the No. 3 quarterback.
Analysis: McFadden and Schilens are the only players on this list that have any Fantasy relevance. Michael Bush and Justin Fargas will split carries for Oakland in Week 7 with McFadden out.
News: Raiders WR Louis Murphy, TE Brandon Myers, WR Javon Walker, QB Charlie Frye and QB Bruce Gradkowski didn't record offensive statistics Week 6 against the Eagles.
Analysis: None of these players ever contributes enough statistically to matter in Fantasy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The Raiders listed the following players as inactive for Week 5 at the Giants: QB Charlie Frye, RB Darren McFadden, RB Oren O'Neal, WR Chaz Schilens, WR Javon Walker and WR Nick Miller.
Analysis: Aside from McFadden, none of the players on this list are expected to carry any Fantasy appeal this season. Leave them reserved until further notice.
News: The Raiders listed the following players as inactive for Week 4 at Houston: WR Nick Miller, WR Chaz Schilens, QB Charlie Frye, DB Eugene Hiram, TE Brandon Myers and WR Javon Walker.
Analysis: None of the players listed are expected to have much Fantasy appeal any time soon. Leave them on the waiver wire until further notice.
News: The Raiders' list of inactives for Week 3 against the Broncos includes DB Hiram Eugene, WR Javon Walker, TE Brandon Myers, WR Nick Miller, WR Chaz Schilens and QB Charlie Frye.
Analysis: None of these players does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when active. Leave them all on waivers.
News: The Raiders inactives for Sunday's game at Kansas City: WR Chaz Schilens, WR Nick Miller, WR Johnnie Lee Higgins, RB Justin Fargas and TE Brandon Myers. The inactive third QB is Charlie Frye.
Analysis: As expected, keep Schilens benched for Week 2 and hope he can return soon from his injured foot. Fargas missed Week 1 at San Diego with a hamstring injury, but he was not on the injury report this week. Still, keep him reserved against the Chiefs, and the same goes for Higgins and Myers.
News: Raiders RB Justin Fargas (hamstring) and starting kick returner Nick Miller (shin splints) are among the Raiders inactive players for tonight's game against San Diego. Fargas absence should mean even more carries for starter Darren McFadden and backup Michael Bush. With Miller out, RB Louis Rankin is expected to return kicks. Raiders rookie TE Brandon Meyers and OG Paul McQuistan are also inactive tonight, along with OT Khalif Barnes, WR Chaz Schilens and WR Javon Walker. Charlie Frye is the No. 3 QB. Gradkowski is the No. 2 QB, backing up JaMarcus Russell. Only two tight ends are active, starter Zach Miller and backup Tony Stewart.
Analysis: This is good news for McFadden's owners as he should see increased touches with Fargas out. Walker was at one point an effective NFL receiver but no longer produces enough in Fantasy to be considered. The rest of these players have little Fantasy value and should not be used in Fantasy play.
News:Bruce Gradkowski has gotten the nod as the Raiders' No. 2 quarterback over Charlie Frye, coach Tom Cable said Saturday. "They were really pretty even, but, at the end of the day, you go with the guy that scored the most points in preseason."
Analysis: Gradkowski and Frye also aren't worth worrying about while they're stuck behind JaMarcus Russell. Leave them on the waiver wire in all leagues.
News: QB Jeff Garcia, who was signed by Oakland in the offseason to push JaMarcus Russell and serve as a mentor to the former No. 1 overall draft pick, was among 22 players let go by the Raiders on Saturday. The decision to release Garcia means Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye will head into the regular season as Russell's backups.
Analysis: Garcia might well find his way on to another roster, but has no Fantasy value now he's without a team. Gradkowski and Frye also aren't worth worrying about while they're stuck behind Russell.
News: Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski completed nine of 16 passes for 153 yards, including a 48-yard pass to undrafted free agent Nick Miller that set up Gary Russell's 1-yard run Thursday against Dallas. Charlie Frye, who is battling Gradkowski for the third-string job, threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Will Franklin in the fourth quarter as the Raiders did a good job of picking on Dallas' depleted secondary. Second-stringer Jeff Garcia missed the game with a calf injury.
Analysis: The way it's shaping up is Gradkowski could be the No. 3 QB behind JaMarcus Russell and Garcia, but none of the backup QBs in Oakland are worth taking on Draft Day. Ignore them in all leagues this season.
News: Raiders backup QB Jeff Garcia will sit out Thursday's preseason game against the Cowboys with a calf injury, giving extra playing time to Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye as they fight for the third-string job.
Analysis: Garcia has minimal Fantasy value as the No. 2 QB in Oakland. The same goes for Gradkowski and Frye, so ignore all on Draft Day. The only way either QB would be of interest for Fantasy owners is if JaMarcus Russell gets hurt.
News: The Raiders have announced that QB Charlie Frye has signed a contract with the club.
Analysis: Frye was a third-string passer for Seattle last year, throwing two touchdowns (and two INTs) with 83 passing yards in one start. His odds of starting with Oakland are slim at this juncture. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Seahawks QB Charlie Frye, RB Justin Forsett, RB Owen Schmitt, TE Will Heller and WR Courtney Taylor didn't record offensive statistics Week 15 at St. Louis.
Analysis: None of these players ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy. Leave them all on waivers for Week 16 against the Jets.
News: Seahawks WR Koren Robinson, RB Justin Forsett, FB Owen Schmitt, WR Jordan Kent, WR Courtney Taylor, RB Julius Jones and QB Charlie Frye all dressed for Seattle's Week 14 loss to the Patriots, but failed to record an offensive stat.
Analysis: Robinson and Jones have some minimal Fantasy value, but only Jones should be considered in Fantasy play for Week 15 at St. Louis if he isn't benched. Ignore everyone else in this list.
News: Seattle has listed the following players as being inactive for Week 12 against the Washington Redskins: QB Charlie Frye (3rd QB), K Brandon Coutu, DB C.J. Wallace, WR Jordan Kent, TE Jeb Putzier and DL Brandon Miller.
Analysis: None of these players does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy even when healthy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: Seahawks K Brandon Coutu, DB C.J. Wallace, RB Leonard Weaver, LB David Hawthorne, DL Red Bryant, DL Patrick Kerney and QB Charlie Frye have all been ruled inactive for Week 11 vs. Arizona.
Analysis: Weaver and Kerney are the only starters for the Seahawks on Week 11's inactive list. Kerney is a high-end Fantasy DL when healthy, but Weaver has little to no value as a fullback. Most of the other inactive players have little to no Fantasy value when active. Keep them reserved Week 11.
News: The Seattle Seahawks have listed the Week 10 inactives for their game at Miami. Not in uniform will be: third QB Charlie Frye, QB Matt Hasselbeck (back), LB David Hawthorne (calf), DT Red Bryant (ankle), WR Deion Branch (heel), TE Will Heller (coach's decision) and DE Patrick Kerney (shoulder).
Analysis: Hasselbeck and Kerney were already declared out earlier in the week, so their inclusion on this list was not a surprise. Branch was questionable with his ankle injury, and he will sit for a fifth straight game and eighth overall. None of the other guys have any Fantasy value.
News: Seahawks WR Keary Colbert, RB Justin Forsett, WR Jordan Kent, TE Jeb Putzier and QB Charlie Frye all dressed, but failed to record an offensive stat Week 9 against the Eagles.
Analysis: Most of these players are reserves for the Seahawks or play a marginal role on offense when in the starting lineup. They barely factor on the stat sheet and have little to no Fantasy value heading into Week 10 against the Dolphins.
News: Seahawks WR Jordan Kent, TE Jeff Robinson, TE Jeb Putzier and QB Charlie Frye didn't record offensive statistics Week 9 at San Francisco.
Analysis: None of these players ever does enough statistically to matter in Fantasy. Leave them all on waivers.
News: Seattle QB Seneca Wallace started Sunday at Tampa Bay for the injured Matt Hasselbeck (knee) and the ineffective Charlie Frye. Wallace returned from a sore leg and started for the first time in two years. He was 12-of-23 passing for 73 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also had two carries for 6 yards.
Analysis: Wallace did not look like a good NFL QB and certainly not like a Fantasy option. Still, he faces a poor San Francisco defense in Week 8 so he could find some success. Even so, he's not worth using against the 49ers because he's just not good enough.
News: Seahawks QB Seneca Wallace pronounced himself ready to play Week 7 at Tampa Bay after missing Week 6 with a calf injury. As a result, Charlie Frye will move into a backup role.
Analysis: Frye didn't play well in Week 6, so hopefully you weren't relying on him for this matchup. Wallace doesn't figure to fare much better, though. Consider him just a last resort.
News: Seahawks backup quarterback Seneca Wallace was back on the field after missing almost all of last week with a calf injury. Coach Mike Holmgren said he will split time this week with third-stringer Charlie Frye, and if Wallace's calf holds up through that, he will start for Seattle on Sunday night at Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Neither Wallace nor Frye would serve as anything better than a desperation starting Fantasy QB for Week 7. Consider other options before going with either quarterback.
News: With Matt Hasselbeck expected to miss Week 7 at Tampa Bay, Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said Seneca Wallace would start if healthy. Charlie Frye started Week 6 against Green Bay when Hasselbeck was out and Wallace was limited with a calf injury. "Seneca Wallace, if he can practice all week, he will start the football game," Holmgren said Monday. "If he cannot, then we'll go with Charlie again. So that's kind of the situation at quarterback. ... I need to see him practice. He has to feel good."
Analysis: Holmgren indicated Wallace would have started against the Packers if he was 100 percent. "Well Seneca, he's played games. Played some fine football for us. You know, he's been here longer than Charlie. The problem is that Seneca's game, a lot of it is quickness, and this injury he has directly relates to that. So, the question would be: Can he play the game the way he plays the game, not just be out there? You have to weigh the two of them and (see) who actually is in a better position to play the play. That's what were going to be looking at." Keep an eye on Wallace's status during the week, but neither he or Frye would be worth starting on your Fantasy team in Week 7 at Tampa Bay.
News:Matt Hasselbeck's knee injury needs more tests. The Seahawks' three-time Pro Bowl QB was inactive for Sunday's 27-17 loss to Green Bay, after being listed as questionable. That forced Seattle to use No. 3 QB Charlie Frye for his first start in two seasons, because backup Seneca Wallace is also hurting with a calf injury. After Frye completed 12-of-23 throws for just 83 yards with two touchdowns, two interceptions and three sacks, coach Mike Holmgren said his team (1-4) will evaluate Hasselbeck's knee on Monday. Hasselbeck said last week he has a bone bruise from getting hit early in the loss at the New York Giants on Oct. 5. He returned to play deep into the third quarter. The Seahawks have been calling it a hyperextended knee, and Holmgren has said there is no structural damage - at least none revealed in an MRI taken early last week. He then turned his attention, without being asked, to getting Wallace back for this weekend's game at Tampa Bay (4-2). "I think Seneca will improve day-to-day. So I would suspect he would be available to play next week," Holmgren said.
Analysis: Neither Wallace or Frye would have much Fantasy value in Week 7 against the Bucs. Consider both as reserves against Tampa Bay's defense depending on who starts in place of Hasselbeck.
News: Starting in place of injured Matt Hasselbeck in Week 6 vs. Green Bay, Charlie Frye threw for just 83 yards on 12-for-23 passing. He was intercepted twice, but did throw two touchdown passes in the game.
Analysis: Hasselbeck is in no danger of losing his job. In fact, this makes it more pressing that he can return for Week 7 at a tough Tampa Bay team. Continue to leave Frye on the waiver wire in Fantasy. Even if he is needed to start, the matchup alone makes him someone to pass on.
News: Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck (knee) was on the inactive list for Week 6 vs. Green Bay. Charlie Frye started in his place.
Analysis: Hasselbeck had missed practice all week, so this move was not unexpected. Even if he does return in Week 7, it will come on the road against a tough Tampa Bay Bucs defense. Hasselbeck may not be of Fantasy use until at least Week 8. Stay away from Frye.
News: The Seahawks are set to start No. 3 QB Charlie Frye against the Packers on Sunday after starter Matt Hasselbeck missed Friday's practice and was unable to take part all week, reports the Seattle Times. Hasselbeck injured his right knee in last week's loss to the New York Giants. He continued to play until being lifted late in the third quarter, but was held out of practice this week with the idea that his knee would be strong enough by Sunday. But coach Mike Holmgren said after practice that Hasselbeck's knee has not responded and that it appears Frye will play in the game. Backup QB Seneca Wallace, who Wednesday aggravated the calf he hurt just before the San Francisco game, is expected to be able to play but would serve as Frye's backup, Holmgren said.
Analysis: It appears safe to keep Hasselbeck reserved this week in all leagues. Frye has minimal Fantasy value and should not be added. And keep Wallace out in all leagues most weeks.
News: QB Matt Hasselbeck has not been cleared to play against Green Bay, meaning the Seahawks will likely start Charlie Frye against the Packers. Coach Mike Holmgren made the announcement after practice Friday. Hasselbeck was again a spectator watching practice wearing a neon green baseball hat, while Frye took the majority of the snaps. Hasselbeck bruised his right knee last Sunday against the New York Giants. Holmgren said earlier this week that Hasselbeck "has to play" for the 1-3 Seahawks. He says there still is a chance Hasselbeck will be cleared for Sunday's game, but he's moving forward with plans that Frye is the starter.
Analysis: It appears like Hasselbeck will miss the game, so plan on keeping him reserved for Week 6 against the Packers. When healthy, Hasselbeck is a No. 2 Fantasy QB. And Frye has minimal Fantasy value and should not be used this week.
News: The Seahawks listed the following players as inactive for Week 5 at the N.Y. Giants: Charlie Frye (third QB), K Brandon Coutu, WR Koren Robinson, RB Maurice Morris, OL Mansfield Wrotto, DL Red Bryant, WR Courtney Taylor and DL Baraka Atkins.
Analysis: Aside from Koren Robinson possibly down the road and Maurice Morris, none of the players on this list are going to be in line for considerable playing time anytime soon. Leave them on the waiver wire in all Fantasy leagues until further notice. They've got some depth chart climbing to do.
News: Seahawks TE Jeb Putzier and QB Charlie Frye both dressed for Seattle's Week 3 win over the Rams but failed to record a stat.
Analysis: Neither of these guys has any Fantasy value, so continue to ignore them in all formats.
News: The following Seahawks are inactive for Week 2 against San Francisco: QB Charlie Frye, K Brandon Coutu, DL Red Bryant, WR Bobby Engram and DL Baraka Atkins.
Analysis: Engram is normally quite the viable Fantasy WR but he's been ruled out for a while for this one. None of the other aforementioned players have any Fantasy relevance at this time.
News: The Seahawks have announced their Week 1 inactives for their game at Buffalo. The following players will not be taking part in the contest: WR Deion Branch, WR Bobby Engram, K Brandon Coutu, RB Justin Forsett, LB Leroy Hill and QB Charlie Frye.
Analysis: Branch and Engram are viable Fantasy WRs when healthy, but they had already been declared out earlier in the week. Everyone else should be ignored in all Fantasy formats.
News: Seattle No. 3 QB Charlie Frye did not practice on Wednesday because of a knee problem but will be available in Friday's preseason finale against the Raiders. Frye, however, will not start as backup Seneca Wallace gets the nod and No. 4 quarterback Dalton Bell will also play.
Analysis: If something were to happen to Matt Hasselbeck in-season, Wallace could be called on to start for Seattle. However, he is a useless Fantasy option until that time arises. The other guys are just trying to earn a place on the roster as the No. 3 QB.
News: After hitting Jordan Kent for a 12-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter during Monday's preseason game against the Chargers, Seahawks QB Charlie Frye left the game with a knee injury. He orchestrated three scoring drives for Seattle that resulted in 17 points. Frye had two touchdown passes, including a 68-yard strike to Nate Burleson that opened the scoring in the first quarter. Frye was 19 of 29 for 219 yards. He also had 22 rushing yards.
Analysis: Frye almost played the whole game Monday as Matt Hasselbeck was still out with a back injury and Seneca Wallace was a last-resort option with a groin injury. He ended up playing when Frye left the game. Frye has seen a lot of time in the preseason, but won't see significant PT during the season unless Hasselbeck is injured. And even if that happens, Frye won't be a highly-regarded Fantasy QB. Leave him alone in Fantasy until further notice.
News: Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck likely will miss Seattle's preseason game Monday at San Diego and probably won't see any action until the regular season because of ongoing back stiffness. Coach Mike Holmgren all but ruled his Pro Bowl quarterback out of his second consecutive preseason game. With the exhibition finale just three days later against Oakland, Hasselbeck remains unlikely to play again until Seattle's opener Sept. 7 at Buffalo. "He has a tight back," Holmgren said. "You wake up funny, or you tweak it or whatever. You've just got to let it calm down a little bit." Holmgren said third-stringer Charlie Frye will start against the Chargers and play most if not the entire game for the second consecutive week. No. 2 quarterback Seneca Wallace is back following a groin strain and said he expected to play in San Diego.
Analysis: Frye completed 20 of 35 passes with three interceptions while playing all of last weekend's overtime win over Chicago. He said earlier this week his arm was sore and tired from all the throwing with both Hasselbeck and Wallace out. But the former starter with the Cleveland Browns until a trade last season said Friday his arm felt much better. Frye won't see significant PT during the season unless Hasselbeck is injured. And even if that happens, Frye won't be a highly-regarded Fantasy QB. Leave him alone in Fantasy until further notice.
News: Third-stringer Charlie Frye played Saturday's entire preseason game against the Bears, going 20-for-35 for 209 yards and three interceptions. Starter Matt Hasselbeck rested his tight back.
Analysis: Frye is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2008 season, which should motivate him. However, he'll never unseat Matt Hasselbeck for the starting job in Seattle. Unless Hasselbeck gets hurt and Frye winds up as the No. 2 QB, we won't hear from the passer from Akron in 2008.
News: Less than a year ago, Charlie Frye was the starting quarterback for the team he grew up loving. He was throwing to Browns stars Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow. Then, after one horrid game, Frye crash-landed in Seattle. He became a third-string quarterback when the Browns gave him away for a sixth-round draft pick, the most sudden trade of an opening-day starter in modern NFL history. This week he's throwing passes through the rain to undrafted free agents. He's fighting for snaps in minicamp with Dalton Bell, a first-year pro from West Texas A&M recently waived by Green Bay. He's humbled as much as any NFL starting quarterback in recent memory. Yet Frye retains hope. "This isn't my end," said the 26-year-old. "I don't see myself as a so-called 'career backup' quarterback. My goal is to get back on the field. That's what I do every day. Every day in the weight room, the film room, on the field, it's keep pushing forward to get back on the field so I can be a starting quarterback again."
News: The Seahawks acquired Charlie Frye after Week 1 from the Browns for a conditional draft choice. Once he arrived in Seattle, he served as the No. 3/emergency QB for the rest of the year. He is likely to compete for a backup role in training camp this summer. He completed 4-of-10 passes for 34 yards with an interception back with the Browns before getting pulled and dealt.
Analysis: Frye is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2008 season, which should motivate him. However, he'll never unseat Matt Hasselbeck for the starting job in Seattle. Unless Hasselbeck gets hurt and Frye is the No. 2 QB, we won't hear from the passer from Akron in 2008.
News: Seahawks QB Charlie Frye (3rd QB), DB Josh Wilson, DL Jason Babin, WR Courtney Taylor and DL Rocky Bernard have all been ruled inactive for Week 16 vs. Baltimore.
Analysis: Most of these players serve as reserves or on special teams and don't play a huge role in the Seahawks' schemes. They have little to no Fantasy value when active. Keep them reserved Week 16.
News: Seahawks inactives for their Week 15 game at the Panthers include: QB Charlie Frye, WR D.J. Hackett, DB Josh Wilson, DL Jason Babin, WR Courtney Taylor and DL Ellis Wyms.

News: Seahawks DB Josh Wilson, DL Jason Babin, WR Courtney Taylor, DL Baraka Atkins and QB Charlie Frye (3rd QB) have all been ruled inactive for Week 14 vs. Arizona.
Analysis: Most of these players serve as reserves or on special teams and don't play a huge role in the Seahawks' schemes. They have little to no Fantasy value when active. Keep them reserved Week 14.
News: Seahawks inactives for Week 13 at Philadelphia include: QB Charlie Frye (No. 3/emergency QB), WR D.J. Hackett, FB David Kirtman, DE Jason Babin, LB Will Herring and DL Howard Green.
Analysis: Aside from Hackett, everyone listed above doesn't produce enough stats to warrant use in Fantasy play. Keep them off of Fantasy rosters.
News: The Seahawks inactives for Week 12 at St. Louis include QB Charlie Frye (3rd QB), DL Jason Babin, LB Will Herring, WR Courtney Taylor and DL Howard Green.
Analysis: None of these players have much Fantasy value and should be reserved in all leagues for Week 12.
News: Seahawks QB Charlie Frye (3rd QB), DB C.J. Wallace, LB Will Herring, WR Courtney Taylor and DL Baraka Atkins have all been listed as inactive for Week 11 vs. Chicago.
Analysis: Most of these players serve as reserves for the Seahawks and have little to no Fantasy value when active. Keep them reserved in Fantasy formats for Week 11.
News: The Seahawks' list of inactives for Week 10 against the 49ers includes LB Will Herring, QB Charlie Frye, LB Leroy Hill, DL Howard Green and DL Baraka Atkins.
Analysis: None of these players makes the kind of statistical impact you'd want in Fantasy. Keep all reserved. The Seahawks host the Bears in Week 11.
News: The Seahawks' list of inactives for Week 9 at Cleveland includes DB C.J. Wallace, DL Jason Babin, DL Howard Green and QB Charlie Frye.
Analysis: These players either play too small a role or don't contribute enough statistically to have any value in Fantasy. Keep all reserved for Week 9 and Week 10 against the 49ers.
News: The Seahawks' list of inactives for Week 7 against the Rams includes QB Charlie Frye, DB C.J. Wallace and DL Howard Green.
Analysis: These players either sit too low on the depth chart or play too little a role on defense to have any Fantasy value. Keep them reserved in all leagues.
News: Charlie Frye is serving as the emergency quarterback for the Seahawks behind Matt Hasselbeck and backup Seneca Wallace.
Analysis: Frye has very little Fantasy appeal and should only hold a reserve spot in the deepest of leagues at this point. The Seahawks host the Rams in Week 7.
News: The Seahawks inactives for Week 5 against Pittsburgh include WR D.J. Hackett, DB Josh Wilson, TE Ben Joppru, DL Jason Babin, QB Charlie Frye and WR Courtney Taylor.
Analysis: Keep all of these players reserved for Week 5.
News: Seattle's WR D.J. Hackett (ankle), TE Bennie Joppru (ankle), DE Ellis Wyms, WR Courtney Taylor, DE Jason Babin and third QB Charlie Frye were all named inactive for the Seahawks' Week 4 game vs. SF.
Analysis: Hackett has now missed three straight games as his ankle injury continues to give him troubles and his Fantasy value continues to drop. None of the other players have any Fantasy value at this time.
News: Notable inactives from Week 3's Cincinnati-Seattle game include: Bengals LB Ahmad Brooks, QB Jeff Rowe (No. 3/emergency QB), DB Nedu Ndukwe, DB Ethan Kilmer, WR Tab Perry, DL Frostee Rucker and LB Rashad Jeanty. For the Bengals, OT Levi Jones will not start. LBs Lemar Marshall and Caleb Miller will start for the Bengals. The Seahawks' inactives are: DL Jason Babin, LB Kevin Bentley, QB Charlie Frye (No. 3/emergency QB), WR D.J. Hackett, TE Bennie Joppru, RB Maurice Morris and WR Ben Obomanu.
Analysis: Perry and Hackett remain sidelined for their respective teams and should be benched in Fantasy play as well. The remainder of the players listed here aren't reliable Fantasy owners.
News: The Seahawks listed QB Charlie Frye (third QB), WR D.J. Hackett (ankle), RB Maurice Morris (hip), DL Jason Babin (coach's decision), LB Leroy Hill (foot) and WR Ben Obamanu (hamstring) as inactive for Week 2 at Arizona.
Analysis: None of these players should be on your active Fantasy roster. That should not change until further notice.
News: Charlie Frye fidgeted. He spun the ball between his hands. He pantomimed a throwing motion, complete with a hip turn and follow through. All this, while quarterbacks Matt Hasselbeck and Seneca Wallace ran plays he'd never seen, in a place in which he knows almost no one. When he finally got the chance to join his new Seattle Seahawks teammates in a huddle, Frye didn't even get to run their plays. He peered up to read diagrammed schemes of the Arizona Cardinals, the Seahawks' opponent this week. A coach was holding those up from the pages of a three-ring binder for 11 practice squad prospects and reserves. From NFL starter to scout team ... in 48 hours. "It is a little shocking," Frye said, still appearing stunned after his first practice since the Cleveland Browns traded their starting quarterback to the Seahawks for a sixth-round draft pick.
Analysis: Since the NFL and AFL merged in 1970, no quarterback had ever started an opener and been traded before Week 2. As Frye said, "There is a first time for everything." It's going to take weeks just for Frye to learn Seattle's plays. When he does, Hasselbeck will still be starting. And Wallace, who went 2-2 when Hasselbeck was injured last season, will be the backup. Frye can be dropped in all leagues as he's not expected to play much for the rest of this year.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye, benched before halftime in the season opener, was traded to Seattle for an undisclosed draft pick on Tuesday, a stunningly swift move as Cleveland clears the way for rookie Brady Quinn. The teams have an agreement in place, said a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal was not finalized. Frye was dealt less than 48 hours after playing poorly and being pulled in the second quarter by coach Romeo Crennel for backup Derek Anderson in the Browns' 34-7 loss to the Steelers. The Browns are also expected to sign quarterback Ken Dorsey, cut 10 days ago by the club, to a one-year contract.
Analysis: Frye can be dropped in all leagues as he's not expected to play much for the rest of this year.
News: WTAM-AM in Cleveland is reporting that the Browns are actively trying to shop QB Charlie Frye, and that if they don't find any takers, they will cut him. The club is trying to make room for Ken Dorsey, who would serve as a mentor to Brady Quinn. Dorsey was at the team's training facility on Monday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Falcons are rumored to be a potential trade partner, but we speculate that the Giants, Jets and Jaguars could also be interested considering their QB issues.
Analysis: This is a heck of a rumor considering that he started the Browns' last game! We expect the Browns to give the starting job to Derek Anderson next week and eventually hand the reins over to rookie Brady Quinn. At this point, no Browns QB is worth owning in standard Fantasy play, although one could make the case that Quinn is worth a flier in deep-roster leagues since his time is certainly coming. We'll continue to monitor the Browns' QB situation and deliver the news as it happens.
News: Browns head coach Romeo Crennel benched starting quarterback Charlie Frye in the first half of Week 1 vs. Pittsburgh. Frye went 4-for-10 for 34 yards, threw an interception and held the ball way too long while being chased by the Steelers. Derek Anderson came in and didn't do much better, but he did throw a 1-yard TD pass to Lawrence Vickers to avoid the shutout. And while their team was being dismantled, Browns fans periodically broke into chants for rookie Brady Quinn, who was designated the team's No. 3 quarterback but could soon be elevated to No. 1.
Analysis: Right now, the only Browns Fantasy QB worth owning in is actually their third-string guy, Brady Quinn. He is the only one with any upside, albeit minimal in his rookie year. He's a solid keeper league addition and could find himself in a starting role soon if Frye continues to struggle. Who knows who will start in Week 2 for the Browns, but what we do know is that he'd better not be starting on your Fantasy team, whoever it is.
News: Charlie Frye will start at QB for Cleveland's season opener Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Frye, who started 13 games last year, entered training camp slightly behind Derek Anderson in the quarterback competition. But he outperformed Anderson during preseason games and directed one touchdown drive against the Denver Broncos. Anderson produced no touchdowns when he led the offense during preseason games. Coach Romeo Crennel said Monday the position will be evaluated on a weekly basis. But he wouldn't say if Frye's backup was rookie Brady Quinn, a first-round draft pick, or Anderson. Quinn, selected 22nd overall in April, missed 11 days of training camp in a holdout, but led four touchdown drives in three preseason games, mostly against backups.
Analysis: Crennel said Frye's experience playing against Pittsburgh and as a team leader was the deciding factor. "I think that gives us the best chance to win," he said. Frye said he's looking forward to facing the rival Steelers. "Obviously I'm excited," he said. "I've been working hard. The competition's been going since minicamp, and I think all of us have benefited from it. It's going to help the team." Consider Frye a No. 3 Fantasy QB and not someone worth starting in Week 1 against the Steelers.
News: The Canton Repository reports that Browns coach Romeo Crennel told his team after their last preseason game that Charlie Frye will be their starting QB heading into the regular season. "Charlie is our quarterback," veteran wideout Joe Jurevicius said.
Analysis: As the Browns starter, Frye will be in line to have some decent games, but probably won't put up boffo numbers despite expectations that the Browns will be behind in many of their games. Treat him like a No. 3 Fantasy QB worth drafting only in the deepest of seasonal Fantasy leagues, and expect him to lose some reps to Brady Quinn before the season is over.
News: Maybe in the regular season the red flag will come out. Preseason games don't count and neither do touchdowns that are erroneously ruled incompletions, as Brady Quinn discovered Saturday night. Quinn was efficient and effective for the second straight game, leading the Cleveland Browns past the Denver Broncos 17-16, although it probably wasn't enough to win him the starting job over Charlie Frye. Quinn, whose TD to Cribbs came against backups, completed 7-of-11 passes for 81 yards. Frye started and went 5-of-7 for 68 yards and Derek Anderson was 7-of-9 for 74 yards.
Analysis: "All three quarterbacks played pretty decent (Saturday)," said head coach Romeo Crennel, who wouldn't let on who was the leader in the starting QB derby. Crennel has said he might not name a starting quarterback until the week before the Sept. 9 opener. Frye should be considered a low-end backup QB in Fantasy play this year if in fact he holds onto the job as expected. Anderson should not be drafted if he's the backup in Cleveland.
News: According to the Columbus Dispatch, Charlie Frye ended training camp Thursday as the Browns' No. 1 QB. With Derek Anderson's futility in camp and Brady Quinn's late arrival, Frye has a loose grip on the starting job with two preseason games remaining. He will start Saturday against the Denver Broncos and expects to play the entire first half. "I've taken most of the reps with the ones (first team) this week, so I feel like I'm ready to play," Frye said. "I'm ready to go out and just fine-tune everything." The starting QB position was the team's biggest preseason prize, but Frye's body language and subpar performance say he doesn't feel like he has won.
Analysis: Frye should be considered a low-end backup QB in Fantasy play this year if in fact he holds onto the job as expected. Anderson should not be drafted if he's the backup in Cleveland.
News: Charlie Frye will start for the Browns against the Broncos in Cleveland's third exhibition, a preseason game most teams view as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. Crennel said Anderson will be Frye's backup, but Crennel said he may delay naming his starter until the week before his club's Sept. 9 season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has narrowed his choice to two candidates: Charlie Frye and a mystery man. "It's Charlie ... and Yes," teased Crennel, who has Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn and Ken Dorsey to choose from. "Who's the other one?" he was asked. "Who do you want it to be?" Crennel said with a laugh. "Brady," a reporter said. "If you want it to be that, then it can be that for you," Crennel said.
Analysis: Frye has played slightly better than Anderson in Cleveland's first two exhibitions and would appear to be the favorite to face the Steelers in less than three weeks. If this QB rotation holds true for Cleveland, then Frye would be the most desirable Fantasy option of the three. But because the Browns' whole QB conundrum is going to last up until the start of the season, whomever is under center for them Week 1 vs. Pittsburgh won't be worth using as anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy QB.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye did not start and did not play well vs. Detroit in Cleveland's second preseason game. Frye was 5-of-10 passing for 42 yards with an interception and 15 rush yards. His primary competition for the starting job, Derek Anderson, did not fare any better, but rookie QB Brady Quinn dazzled in the fourth quarter and could earn some consideration for playing time in the future.
Analysis: Coach Romeo Crennel has yet to indicate who will be his starting QB, and now it appears it's a three-horse race. Whomever starts for the Browns will begin the Fantasy season as a No. 3 Fantasy QB. Frye will at least give you some rushing stats but isn't worth a draft pick in standard league play.
News: The coin flipped in Charlie Frye's favor, and the rest of the night went his way, too. Frye played better than Derek Anderson in their competition to become Cleveland's starting quarterback and the Browns got a late kickoff return for a TD in a 16-12 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. Frye finished 12-of-15 for 122 yards. He made several strong throws downfield, but those positive plays were overshadowed by two bad ones. Frye had a botched swing pass in the backfield returned 56 yards for a touchdown by Kansas City's Benny Sapp in the first half. And moments later, Frye's mismanagement of the clock in the closing seconds cost Cleveland points. Still, Frye was pleased with his performance. "I think I was putting the ball where I wanted it," Frye said.
Analysis: Before kickoff, Frye won a coin toss held in coach Romeo Crennel's office to decide his starter. Crennel, who hasn't given any indication when he'll name his starter, felt both players looked good once they settled in. "Charlie was able to get into a rhythm a little bit sooner than Derek," he said. "Both were hurt by some dropped passes. We'll look at the tape and make an evaluation." If Frye continues to play well in training camp, he will open the season as the starter. Continue to view Frye as a No. 3 Fantasy QB.
News: With Cleveland's quarterback derby a dead heat, Browns coach Romeo Crennel is flipping a coin to decide if Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson starts Saturday's exhibition game against Kansas City. "That's the fairest way," he said. Who makes the call, coach? "Maybe we'll play rock, paper, scissors for that," Crennel cracked. And Brady Quinn's smiling face isn't on the coin, either. All kidding aide, Crennel, who is entering a no-more-excuses third season in Cleveland, would like to name his starting quarterback for the Sept. 9 season opener against Pittsburgh as soon as possible.
Analysis: Crennel said Frye and Anderson will play in the first half and will alternate series with the starters and backups. If Frye continues to play well in training camp, he will open the season as the starter. Continue to view Frye as a No. 3 Fantasy QB.
News: According to the Plain Dealer, Browns coach Romeo Crennel listed Charlie Frye first at QB and Derek Anderson second. That doesn't mean that Frye would start the first preseason game against Kansas City on Saturday night. Crennel said he may decide the starter with a coin toss before the game. Crennel said at the beginning of training camp that Frye had "a leg up" on the starting role based on his game experience advantage. Now he won't even say that Frye has a leg up. Frye actually has looked better through the first 10 days of training camp than he did in the offseason.
Analysis: If Frye continues to play well in training camp, he will open the season as the starter, Anderson will be No. 2 and unsigned rookie Brady Quinn will be No. 3. Frye should be viewed as a No. 3 Fantasy QB, and Anderson should not be drafted if the depth chart remains this way.
News: Rookie Brady Quinn's absence due to a contract holdout has ensured he will not win the Cleveland Browns' starting job, which has become a two-man fight between Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye. Coach Romeo Crennel said he still hasn't decided who will start the Browns' exhibition opener on Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs. "It may be a coin flip before the game to decide," he said. "However, they both are going to play in the game."
Analysis: The most exciting Fantasy prospect of the trio would be Brady Quinn, but right now he is not in the mix. Keep an eye on the progress of Anderson and Frye during the preseason. Whomever wins the No. 1 job in Cleveland will likely be a No. 3 Fantasy option at best.
News: ClevelandBrowns.com reports coach Romeo Crennel said Friday that he is in no rush to name his starting quarterback this season. In fact, he may not even name his starter for the club's first preseason game until the day of. "I might wait until game time and flip a coin," he said. Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson have been splitting first-team reps in camp while first-round pick Brady Quinn remains a holdout.
Analysis: We have heard reports that Anderson and Frye are both getting the job done in camp, so we believe the Browns' QB race will be between Anderson and Frye with Quinn not even in the hunt. Either way, neither Anderson nor Frye will be worth checking out as anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy QB in 2007 league play.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye is vying with veteran Derek Anderson and rookie Brady Quinn, the first-round draft pick who has yet to report to training camp because of a contract holdout, to start the season opener against Pittsburgh on Sept. 9. Last week, Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Frye had a "leg up" on the competition. Frye is also appreciative of the improved offensive line in Cleveland. "I think they'll give me a lot of time this year," Frye said.
Analysis: It looks like the Browns' QB race will be between Anderson and Frye, not Frye and Quinn. Either way, neither Anderson nor Frye will be worth checking out as anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy QB in 2007 league play.
News: The Akron Beacon Journal speculates that the Browns could name veteran QB Derek Anderson their starter for the 2007 season, not Charlie Frye or rookie Brady Quinn. Apparently, Anderson has looked the best in minicamp and could have the edge on the starting job, according to team sources. The Browns are running a new offense this season, which has stumped Quinn thus far and has left Frye a little behind.
Analysis: It looks like the Browns' QB race will be between Anderson and Frye, not Frye and Quinn. Either way, neither Anderson nor Frye will be worth checking out as anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy QB in 2007 league play. As for Quinn, he's only worth a look with a late-round pick in keeper leagues and an early- to middle-round choice in rookie-only drafts.
News: As far as Charlie Frye is concerned, he's the Cleveland Browns' No. 1 quarterback. Frye began battling rookie Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson and Ken Dorsey for the starting job Tuesday as the Browns kicked off three weeks of organized-team-activity practices, the first full-team workouts in preparation for the 2007 season. Frye spent an extra 40 minutes after practice working with the other QBs, then walked off the field and stated without hesitation that he expects to be under center when the Browns open on Sept. 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "I really can't predict the future, but I'm preparing like I'm the starter," Frye said. "I never knew I lost it."
Analysis: Frye said Quinn's selection didn't surprise him. He had anticipated the Browns bringing in another quarterback to compete with him. Frye should be viewed as a No. 3 QB at best. We anticipate him opening the season as the starter, but he will probably lose the job to Quinn if the team struggles. He is not worth drafting in any Fantasy league.
News: Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn was the last rookie in New York to get drafted, but he wound up going to Cleveland when they moved up from the second round in a trade with Dallas. Quinn is expected to compete for the starting QB job with Charlie Frye.
Analysis: Unless he plays dynamite football in the preseason, Quinn will wind up spending most of his first year from the sidelines with some occasional mop-up duty. Frye should play much more, making him a bottom-of-the-barrel Fantasy option among starting quarterbacks. You probably shouldn't take Frye to be anything more than a No. 3 QB option.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye (wrist, questionable) was able to start in Week 17 at Houston. He finished with just 187 yards and no touchdowns against the Texans. He also turned the ball over twice on an interception and a lost fumble.
Analysis: Frye showed some flashes of brilliance in 2006, but never really developed into a reliable Fantasy option. He should have the heads up on the starting job in 2007, but will be worth little more than a late-round flier in Fantasy drafts.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye (wrist, questionable) was able to start in Week 17 at Houston.
Analysis: Despite getting back into game action, Frye wasn't someone we'd recommend for a Fantasy championship game anyway. Derek Anderson is useless once again.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye has been listed as questionable on the team's injury report and third-stringer Ken Dorsey is preparing to start, but coach Romeo Crennel said Friday that Frye's wrist is improving. He didn't rule out Frye playing. "If I like what I see, I think maybe there is a chance," Crennel said. "He has discomfort in his wrist, but he's a competitor and he's worked through some things in his career. I think he's anxious to see what he can do."
Analysis: Even if Frye is ready to go come Sunday, it is not recommended you use him for Fantasy purposes.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye (wrist) is listed as questionable for Week 17 at Houston.
Analysis: Frye should not be in any active Fantasy lineup for Week 17 since the Browns have already named Ken Dorsey as the starting QB.
News: Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Tuesday that third-string quarterback Ken Dorsey would start for the team at Houston in Week 17. Charlie Frye still has the bruised (or is that fractured?) wrist and Derek Anderson suffered a separated shoulder; neither passer will play in the season finale. Dorsey will likely be backed up by Lang Campbell, who has never taken an NFL snap.
Analysis: Unless you're absolutely desperate for a quarterback, don't take Dorsey in Week 17. He has a fairly accurate arm but cannot get the ball downfield. Campbell, Anderson and Frye should not be on Fantasy rosters, either.
News: Notable inactives for the Buccaneers-Browns game in Week 16 include: Buccaneers QB Luke McCown (No. 3 QB), RB Cadillac Williams, CB Alan Zemaitis, TE Doug Jolley, DE Charles Bennett and DT Jon Bradley. RB Michael Pittman will start for Williams. For the Browns, QB Charlie Frye (No. 3 QB), RB Chris Bradley, CB Leigh Bodden, DB Ben Emanuel, LB Andra Davis and DL Alvin McKinley are inactive.
Analysis: Keep all inactive players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 16.
News: An agitated Browns coach Romeo Crennel refuted reports that QB Charlie Frye has a broken right wrist and denied he has been hiding injuries this season. Frye hasn't played since hurting his wrist in a Dec. 3 game against Kansas City. X-rays taken that day at the stadium and MRIs performed later at the Cleveland Clinic revealed only a bone bruise, the team said. Frye has not been able to grip a football or throw effectively since. This week, Frye got a second opinion on his injury. On Friday, The Plain Dealer and Akron Beacon Journal, both citing an anonymous source close to Frye, reported the second-year QB was told by a hand specialist that he has a broken bone. Crennel insists that's not true. "He has a bone bruise," Crennel said Friday. "I said it yesterday. I said it the day before. I said it a couple weeks ago, and I will say it tomorrow. He has a bone bruise. It is getting better slowly."
Analysis: Keep Frye reserved in all leagues since it looks like he won't play again this season.
News: Several reports out of Cleveland said Friday that Browns QB Charlie Frye has a fracture in his right wrist, though team members including coach Romeo Crennel are disputing that, saying he has a bone bruise. Either way, Frye will not start vs. the Buccaneers in Week 16 -- that job goes to QB Derek Anderson.
Analysis: Frye should either be benched or cut in all leagues since it looks like he won't play in Week 16, and possibly again this season. Look for him to start the 2007 training camp in a competition for the top QB job in Cleveland.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye (wrist) is listed as questionable for Week 16 vs. Tampa Bay. He did not practice on Wednesday.
Analysis: The Browns have already announced that Derek Anderson will get the start against the Bucs. Keep Frye reserved in all leagues.
News: Browns coach Romeo Crennel announced that quarterback Derek Anderson will start Sunday against Tampa Bay. Anderson will make his third start since Charlie Frye bruised his right wrist in Cleveland's Dec. 3 win over Kansas City.
Analysis: Anderson should be considered a No. 2 QB for Week 16 vs. the Bucs. It's a decent matchup, and it's the Browns last home game of the year, but Anderson is by no means reliable for an outstanding afternoon.
News: Notable Browns inactive in Week 15 at Baltimore include: QB Charlie Frye (3rd QB), RB Jerome Harrison, DB Ben Emanuel and DL Orien Harris.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 15.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye didn't throw any passes during the portion of practice Thursday open to the media. The second-year QB bruised his right wrist two weeks ago and sat out last week's loss at Pittsburgh. "It's still sore," Frye said before practice. "It's tough to throw and if you can't throw, you can't play." If Frye can't play, Derek Anderson, who made his first career start last week, will face the Ravens. Anderson was released by Baltimore before last season.
Analysis: Keep Frye reserved and Anderson is not a recommended starter against the Ravens.
News: According to the The Beacon Journal, Browns QB Charlie Frye had his right wrist in the same soft brace he's been wearing since he was hurt Dec. 3, and he was tossing the ball left-handed at practice Wednesday, which means Derek Anderson almost certainly gets to face the team that drafted him. Anderson was the Ravens' sixth-round draft pick a year ago. He made the team, but spent just two games with the Ravens (he was inactive for one). The Ravens released him and planned to bring him back to the practice squad.
Analysis: Since replacing Frye, Anderson has completed 57 percent of his throws for 447 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He is not a recommended Fantasy option against the Ravens.
News: Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday that QB Charlie Frye (wrist) would be listed as questionable but will try to practice in preparation for Week 15 at Baltimore. "We'll see what he can do today and see where that is," Crennel said. "He's been in a splint, so we'll see what he can do. We'll see whether he can take a snap, how he throws the ball, if he can throw. Then we'll make a determination from that." If Frye cannot start, Derek Anderson would take his place against the Ravens.
Analysis: Using either Browns QB as anything more than a desperation, last-ditch, them-or-nobody Fantasy option at Baltimore is not advised. The matchup is ugly for them.
News: Numerous sources including the Columbus Dispatch report Tuesday that Browns QB Charlie Frye feels like he can play despite his bruised wrist, but coach Romeo Crennel would not speculate on his availability for Week 15 at Baltimore. "You guys keep asking me that question about if Charlie's healthy, will he start?" Crennel said. "I've said all along that we'll see what he can do and how it turns out. Then I'll make a determination at that time." Frye has had his wrist in a cast for nearly two weeks and hasn't even thrown a football in that time. Frye said he will try to practice Wednesday. If Frye can't play, Derek Anderson will start again for Cleveland.
Analysis: Using either Browns QB as anything more than a desperation, last-ditch, them-or-nobody Fantasy option at Baltimore is not advised. The matchup is ugly for them.
News: The Browns could be in the early stages of a quarterback controversy. With starter Charlie Frye out with a bruised right wrist, backup Derek Anderson made his first pro start and finished 21-of-37 for 276 yards with one interception and one touchdown. Anderson's numbers would have been better, but Cleveland's receivers dropped "nine or 10 balls" by coach Romeo Crennel's count. Last week, Crennel said "Charlie's the starter" when asked about Anderson playing ahead of a healthy Frye. But Anderson's performance has at least opened the possibility that he'll see more time in the final three games. "I think he's done enough to make it intriguing," Crennel said. "Going down the road, we are going to have to evaluate it and see how we are going to handle it and what we are going to do. Charlie's situation is going to affect that some and Derek's performance from here out will impact that some."
Analysis: Keep an eye on this as the season rolls on, if only to get an idea of who will start for the Browns in 2007. Anderson throws a nice, tight spiral and can move well in the pocket, though he has some ways to go as far as learning the offense and maturing into an NFL quarterback. Neither passer should be used by Fantasy owners ... until Week 17, when the Browns play at Houston in the season finale. Definitely don't use either QB at Baltimore in Week 15.
News: Browns QB Derek Anderson will make his first career start Thursday against the Steelers, replacing the injured Charlie Frye (wrist), who will serve as the team's 3rd QB. Frye had been listed as questionable on the team's injury report and did not practice this week. The team's backup QB will be Ken Dorsey.
Analysis: Make sure to keep Frye reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 14. It is unclear if he will make his return in Week 15, so check back with further updates on Frye's status.
News: Cleveland quarterback Charlie Frye's right wrist is bruised and not broken, and is questionable for the Browns' game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night. Frye sustained a bone bruise on the wrist on his throwing hand early in the first half against Kansas City on Sunday. Coach Romeo Crennel said X-rays and an MRI were negative, and added that Frye would be kept out of Tuesday's workout, the club's only full practice during a short work week. "We're going to rest him and treat him and see how it is," Crennel said.
Analysis: If Frye can't play, backup Derek Anderson, who rallied the Browns to a 31-28 overtime win over the Chiefs by throwing two touchdown passes in the final nine minutes of regulation and making a 33-yard run in OT, will make his first start career start against the Steelers. Still, no Browns QB should be used in the game for Fantasy purposes.
News: The Cleveland Browns were awaiting more test results on QB Charlie Frye's right wrist, an injury that could keep him out of Thursday's game against Pittsburgh. Frye got hurt during the first half of Sunday's 31-28 overtime win against the Kansas City Chiefs. Browns coach Romeo Crennel said X-rays taken at Browns Stadium were negative. Frye, though, was having an MRI on Monday at the Cleveland Clinic. Crennel said Frye's wrist was not broken "to my knowledge" and that it was too early to know if Frye would be healthy enough to play against the Steelers, who beat the Browns 24-20 on Nov. 19. "I'm not ruling anything out," Crennel said. "Charlie is a tough guy and if he can take the snaps and throw the ball, he'll want to go. I'll have to see how throws during the week."
Analysis: In his first full season as a starter, Frye has been roughed up behind an offensive line that lost Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley during training camp. Last week, right tackle Ryan Tucker was placed on the non-football illness list with what the team has described as a mental disorder. Frye was replaced by backup Derek Anderson, who threw two touchdown passes to set up Phil Dawson's game-winning field goal in OT with a 33-yard run. Frye or Anderson are not recommended options in Week 14.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye may have broken his right wrist during Sunday's win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Frye got hurt on Cleveland's first offensive series when he braced himself while being knocked down. He stayed in and threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Braylon Edwards before being taken to the locker room for X-rays. Frye returned with 5:53 left before halftime, and drove the Browns to a tying score with 19 seconds left. However, when Cleveland came out for the second half, Frye was wearing a large brace on his wrist and an orange jacket but no shoulder pads. "I tried to fight it off for a while," said Frye, who also hurt his left ankle on the same play. "At halftime, the trainer pulled the plug on it. I should know tomorrow just how serious it is."
Analysis: Tight end Kellen Winslow blurted out that Frye's wrist was broken, but later backtracked on his claim. Hopefully the Browns will update his status on Monday, but he might have a hard time making a quick turnaround for Thursday's game against the Steelers. It is recommended that you not play Frye for Fantasy purposes in Week 14 since he will be on short rest, whether or not he broke his right wrist. Backup QB Derek Anderson would likely start for the Browns shall Frye miss Thursday's game.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye did not start the second half of Sunday's game against the Chiefs and his return is doubtful. Frye sat out a series in the first half with a right wrist injury. He was taken into the locker room for X-rays and was temporarily replaced by Derek Anderson at quarterback. He came back in the second quarter and led the Browns on their second scoring drive. Frye completed 11-of-13 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown in one half of play. Anderson is once again under center for the Browns.
Analysis: Frye has been knocked down a league-leading 79 times this season. He has taken his shots, but has stayed relatively healthy this season. Check back with us during the week for further updates on Frye's status leading up to Week 14. The Browns play the Steelers.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye left Sunday's game against Chiefs with a wrist injury. He was taken into the locker room for X-rays. Derek Anderson replaced him at quarterback. After a few minutes, he returned to the sidlines with his right wrist taped up. He began throwing on the sidelines and looks like he could make a return to the game.
Analysis: Frye didn't look like he was in too much pain and perhaps the X-rays were a precautionary measure at this time. Frye took a couple of good shots early in the game and he is still questionable to return at this point.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye was 18-of-29 passing for 186 yards and four interceptions against the Bengals. He also had two carries for 5 yards.
Analysis: Frye struggled against the worst pass defense in the NFL and should be considered a No. 2 QB in Week 13 against Kansas City.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye was 17-of-27 passing for zero touchdowns or interceptions vs. Pittsburgh in Week 11. He also rushed for 27 yards but did have a fumble.
Analysis: Frye could be a decent low-end starter in Week 12 when he and the Browns host the Bengals.
News: ClevelandBrowns.com reports that QB Charlie Frye (wrist) has been upgraded to probable for Week 11 vs. Pittsburgh. He is expected to play in the game.
Analysis: If you can stomach it, Frye is not the worst QB option you could have in Fantasy Football this weekend as the Steelers pass defense has not been strong lately. Even with a number of their DBs expecting to play, consider Frye a legit sleeper for Week 11.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye (left wrist) is listed as questionable for Week 11 vs. Pittsburgh. He did practice on Wednesday.
Analysis: Luckily the injury is to Frye's non-throwing hand and it appears he will play against the Steelers on Sunday. Consider him a No. 2 QB against the Steelers in Week 12 and a decent sleeper.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye had X-rays on his hand after Sunday's game against Atlanta, but they were negative. He was shaking it in the locker room. Coach Romeo Crennel said Frye was bruised.
Analysis: Frye finished the game against the Falcons and should be fine. Consider him a No. 2 QB against the Steelers in Week 12 and a decent sleeper.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye completed 16-of-22 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown (19-yard pass to Braylon Edwards) in a Week 10 win over the Falcons. He also had 28 yards on four carries.
Analysis: Frye played against the Falcons despite being listed on the injury report with a thumb injury. He didn't have great numbers, but he did enough to win the game for the Browns. The Browns host the Steelers in Week 11 and it is not recommended you use Frye for Fantasy purposes.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye (thumb) and TE Kellen Winslow (knee) are both in the starting lineup for Week 10 against the Falcons. Frye was listed as probable and Winslow was listed as questionable on the injury report.
Analysis: Make sure to start Winslow for Fantasy purposes. He has been battling knee issues all year, but is still one of the top producers at TE in the NFL. Frye on the other hand is usually not a strong Fantasy option, but against a poor Falcons defense, he might be worth using as a one-week sleeper.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye (thumb) was upgraded to probable for Week 10's game at Atlanta.
Analysis: Frye is not a recommended start against an unpredictable Falcons defense even though they lost two defensive backs during the last seven days. Keep him benched for the upcoming contest.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye (thumb) is listed as questionable for Week 10 at Atlanta.
Analysis: Frye has been playing well as of late, but certainly this thumb injury will sidetrack him on continued progress. Frye does have a favorable matchup ahead against the Falcons, one of the worst pass defenses in the league. If Frye's status improves, consider using him as a possible one-week sleeper.
News: Charlie Frye completed 25-of-43 for 236 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 9 at San Diego in a 32-25 loss.
Analysis: Frye did a surprising job against the vaunted Chargers defense, but the results were the same overall. He is a decent No. 3 Fantasy quarterback option only worth using when your other QBs have terrible matchups or nagging injuries. The Browns play at Atlanta in Week 10.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye completed 15-of-22 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 as the Browns upset the Jets 20-13. Frye did throw an interception and also ran for 19 yards.
Analysis: Frye wasn't a Fantasy savior in Week 8, but he did outperform his counterpart, Jets QB Chad Pennington, who is heavily owned in Fantasy realms. Frye really isn't a suitable Fantasy option at this time and you shouldn't play him in Week 9 as the Browns play the Chargers.
News: Browns right offensive tackle Ryan Tucker missed practice on Thursday with what coach Romeo Crennel termed "a medical illness" that could keep him out of Sunday's game against the New York Jets. Tucker hasn't been at the club's training facility all week. He missed two days of practice last week but played all but the final few minutes of Cleveland's 17-7 loss to the Denver Broncos. Crennel said team doctors were still trying to diagnose Tucker, who hasn't missed a start this season, his fifth with the Browns. "He's dealing with it on an outpatient basis," Crennel said. "He's not on his death bed or anything like that. We have to take time to get that illness figured out."
Analysis: For Fantasy purposes this could have an affect on QB Charlie Frye and RB Reuben Droughns. They were both considered No. 3 Fantasy options at their respective positions for Week 8 prior to the news about Tucker and this news certainly doesn't help either of their status. Their previous rankings hold steady despite the possibility of losing a key offensive lineman.
News: QB Charlie Frye is having no aftershocks from a concussion that sidelined him for one play in the Denver game.
Analysis: Earlier this week Frye confessed he grabbed his helmet and ran onto the field before doctors gave him clearance to play. Frye actually fared a little better than we anticipated against the high-flying Denver defense, but he is still a No. 3 Fantasy option at best for Week 8 against the Jets.
News: Charlie Frye completed 19-of-33 for 149 yards, one touchdown and an interception in Week 7 against the Broncos.
Analysis: Frye actually fared a little better than we anticipated against the high-flying Denver defense, but he is still a No. 3 Fantasy option at best for Week 8 against the Jets.
News: The Broncos defense is not the one the Browns need to face as they try to repair a stumbling offense. The Browns are ranked 31st in the league in offense. The Broncos have given up one touchdown in five games. Browns quarterback Charlie Frye has been sacked 16 times. Denver has a defensive line composed of several former Browns who would like nothing better than to prove the Browns should not have given up on them. Asking Frye to drop back and throw against Denver's aggressive defense might be a bit much to ask. The Browns need to keep Frye healthy, upright and learning if this season is going to mean anything.
Analysis: The season has not started well for the Browns, who are averaging just 16.2 points per game even though Frye is in his second year and Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow are playing. We recommend benching Frye in all leagues -- even those that use two starting QBs -- in Week 7.
News: Browns coach Romeo Crennel is prescribing rest for quarterback Charlie Frye. Although Frye hasn't been on the injury report, he's been battered by opposing defenses. "If you get hit enough, you'll break down," Crennel said.
Analysis: Frye has 1,039 yards passing with five TDs and nine interceptions -- eight of them coming in the fourth quarter of games he's played. He also has 70 rush yards and three rushing touchdowns. Consider him a fair bye-week QB replacement when the matchup is right, but do not start him on bye in Week 6 or in Week 7 against a tough Broncos opponent.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye continues to learn what life is like in the NFL. Carolina's front four pressured Frye relentlessly, with Julius Peppers residing in the Browns backfield. Frye marveled at the rush, saying he'd never seen anything like it. Frye completed 26-of-43 for 173 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 5 at Carolina.
Analysis: Frye is not a recommended starter in Week 7 against Denver. He has played well, but this is not a good matchup.
News: Charlie Frye completed 26-of-43 for 173 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 5 at Carolina. So far this season, Frye has no touchdowns and eight interceptions in the fourth quarter.
Analysis: Frye is only worth using in Fantasy leagues which use the first three quarters of stats only. He has been abysmal in the fourth quarter, as is evidenced by the stats above. The Browns host the Broncos in Week 7 after its bye.
News: Charlie Frye completed 22-of-32 for 192 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 4 at Oakland. He helped the Browns rebound from a 21-3 deficit to win 24-21.
Analysis: Despite the solid performance in the second half, the Frye guy is not worth a look in Week 5 at Carolina.
News: Charlie Frye completed 15-of-18 for 210 yards and a touchdown in the first half of Week 3 against the Ravens, but finished with just 21-of-33 for 298 yards.
Analysis: Frye was surprisingly effective in the first half against a stout Baltimore defense. He was sacked seven times in the 15-14 loss and kept coming. He might have a field day in Week 4 at Oakland, but is only worth considering if your primary option(s) have difficult matchups or bye weeks.
News: Facing a Baltimore defense which has forced nine turnovers does not bode well for a Cleveland offense which has committed three in each game. The Browns play vs. the Ravens in Week 3 play. Browns QB Charlie Frye has thrown two interceptions in back-to-back weeks and been sacked a total of five times, though he has completed 60 percent of his passes. He also has 54 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.
Analysis: The rushing TDs are a nice perk, but Frye is nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy QB at this point, and he should absolutely sit on a Fantasy bench (or a waiver wire) for Week 3 against the dreaded Ravens.
News: Charlie Frye was 20-of-33 for 244 yards in Week 2 at Cincinnati. He did not throw a TD pass in the game and was intercepted twice, but he scored on a late 2-yard TD run. Frye repeatedly threw behind receivers in a conservative approach -- hand off, dump off, throw short over the middle. He didn't put together a touchdown drive until the fourth quarter, when he completed a 75-yard pass to Braylon Edwards down the left sideline to set up a score. "We weren't good on either side of the ball," coach Romeo Crennel said. "It wasn't good. That's about all I can say."
Analysis: The 75-yard completion to Edwards was the longest of his career, and the second-longest of the receiver's career. Other than that, he didn't have much success. Frye's matchup vs. Baltimore next week makes him a horrible option in all formats. Sit him unless you are desperate for a warm body.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye was sacked five times by the Saints and Chiefs quarterbacks were sacked seven times by the Bengals last week. Coach Romeo Crennel has reached the conclusion it would be better to keep a back or receiver in to help the blocking. Frye said the plan is to use running back Reuben Droughns more against the Bengals than the 11 carries Droughns had last week against the Saints. The hope is a successful running game will make the Bengals more reluctant to tee off on Frye
Analysis: Even with the help, Frye is not worth using this week. Keep him reserved until he begins to play better.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye had a rough first game against the Saints. ``I was just a little dehydrated, getting some IVs,'' he said in Monday's The Beacon Journal. ``I'm pretty tough. I should be able to shake it off and be ready to go Tuesday or Wednesday.'' It was Frye's sixth career start Sunday and his first since being anointed the Browns' starter after the offseason trade of Trent Dilfer to the San Francisco 49ers. Frye led his team in rushing with six carries for 44 yards. He was sacked five times and completed 16-of-27 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions and a lackluster passing rating of 53.3.
Analysis: Frye should only be considered as a bye-week replacement. His value also took a hit with WR Joe Jurevicius (ribs) expected to be out until Week 5.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye completed 16-of-27 passes for 132 yards, one touchdown and threw two interceptions. His last interception sailed through the hands of a wide-open Braylon Edwards late in the game as the Browns were marching down the field for the go-ahead score. He also rushed the ball six times for 44 yards and a one-yard touchdown run.
Analysis: By the numbers it looks like Frye had a poor game, but it is not entirely his fault. The Browns dropped a few passes they should have had and the worst part of it was that Frye had no time to throw the ball. He was constantly scrambling from the beginning of the game (the Saints sacked him five times) and it seemed he was always throwing on the run. Until the Browns shore up protection, Frye will not become a solid Fantasy option. We recommend sitting him Week 2 vs. Cincinnati.
News: Charlie Frye is the sixth quarterback to open the season for the Browns in eight years. The others are Ty Detmer, Tim Couch, Kelly Holcomb, Jeff Garcia and Trent Dilfer. Frye will start against the Saints with a revamped offensive line of Kevin Shaffer at left tackle, Joe Andruzzi at left guard, Hank Fraley at center, Cosey Coleman at right guard and Ryan Tucker at right tackle. It gives the Browns a ton of experience against the Saints pass rush. "I like the guys I have," Crennel said. "What am I supposed to do, sit up here and say 'I hate the guys?' C'mon -- they have to play for me. I have to give them as much support as I can because when they go out there on Sunday I want them to bust their ass and do everything they can to help us win the game."
Analysis: Frye should not be started in any Fantasy leagues until he proves he can put up consistent numbers. He does have potential with WRs Braylon Edwards and Joe Jurevicius and TE Kellen Winslow, but wait and see how he does first before using him.
News: The Browns acquired C Hank Fraley from Philadelphia for a 2008 conditional draft pick Saturday.
Analysis: QB Charlie Frye will benefit from the presence of a proven center like Fraley after the Browns lost other reliable options due to injury. Frye isn't someone you want starting yet, even as a bye-week replacement, but he is someone to keep an eye on as the season rolls on. He is also worthy of adding in all keeper league as his upside is respectable.
News: Charlie Frye finished 12-of-16 for 76 yards and a touchdown before being replaced by Ken Dorsey early in the third quarter of Friday's preseason game against the Bills.
Analysis: TE Kellen Winslow's return from injury, as well as the surprising return of WR Braylon Edwards (knee) earlier than expected makes Frye a wild card heading into the season. He remains useful only as a No. 3 quarterback or bye week option for most Fantasy owners.
News: Coach Romeo Crennel told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Frye is throwing the ball much better than he did in 2005. "In the offseason program, he lifted weights, got his arm stronger, and the ball is coming off his hand with more velocity," said Crennel.
Analysis: Frye added that the difference between last season and now has been night and day. TE Kellen Winslow's return from injury, as well as the possible return of WR Braylon Edwards (knee) earlier than expected makes Frye a wild card heading into the season. He remains useful only as a No. 3 quarterback or bye week option for most Fantasy owners.
News: Charlie Frye was 8-of-11 for 41 yards, a touchdown (5 yd. pass to Dennis Northcutt) and an interception in Friday's preseason game against the Lions. He was also dropped once on a sack.
Analysis: Frye might have some worries about his offensive line. He was not bothered by a thumb injury he was nursing earlier in camp, so that is a good sign. Frye also developed a nice rapport with TE Kellen Winslow and that might be combination to watch this season. He is at best a bye-week replacement QB option when the matchup is right and only has value in leagues that start multiple quarterbacks or keeper leagues.
News: Starting quarterback Charlie Frye was 4-of-7 for 23 yards Thursday at Philadelphia in the Browns' preseason opener, before taking a seat. Backup QB Ken Dorsey completed 5 of 10 passes for 48 yards. Reuben Droughns rushed four times for 21 yards.
Analysis: Frye's thumb was not an issue in this game and it is something Fantasy owners should no longer worry about. He is at best a bye-week replacement QB option when the matchup is right and only has value in leagues that start multiple quarterbacks or keeper leagues.
News: Browns QB Charlie Frye has a sore thumb, the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Frye hit his hand on a helmet on Aug. 2, causing the injury. Frye played with the sore thumb in a scrimmage over the weekend, and his passes were wobbly. He is still expected to play in the team's first preseason game at Philadelphia on Aug. 10.
Analysis: Frye's thumb better heal quick as the Browns want to give their second-year QB as many reps as they possibly can. They're even interested in letting him play all season with the intention of him building on it for 2007. That could be a little discouraging to Browns fans since they want their team to win now, not in a year (though the Dawg Pound would be OK with that, too). Frye is at best a bye-week replacement QB option when the matchup is right and only has value in leagues that start multiple quarterbacks or keeper leagues.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns QB Charlie Frye sat out of practice on Aug. 3 with a sore knee that had a wrap on it. However, head coach Romeo Crennel described the ailment as minor and gave Frye a day off. "They're all banged up," Crennel said of his players. "Not one out there isn't banged up. Even the kickers are sore. Those quarterbacks have bumps and bruises. I wanted to rest his arm. ... No major problem as far as I know."
Analysis: Frye should be just fine. He's an interesting quarterback to check out since he plays in a pretty simple offense that does have some sure-handed receivers (Joe Jurevicius, Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow to name three). He also is mobile and could scramble for some yardage. Don't consider him anything more than a sleeper No. 3 Fantasy QB for the season, worth only a late-round pick in deeper leagues that start two passers.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns QB Charlie Frye is thrilled that he's been named the team's starting quarterback now that Trent Dilfer has been dealt to San Francisco. He adds that this won't change his outlook on how he prepares. "It's what I've been preparing for since I first came to Berea," Frye said. "I came back in February to prepare myself for that, and I've been watching films and bulking up. I'm trying to give myself the best chance for success."
Analysis: Frye is a deep sleeper in Fantasy circles for 2006 thanks to the team's addition of WR Joe Jurevicius and the expected return of TE Kellen Winslow. He still will be without WR Braylon Edwards for the first few weeks. Consider him a back-end No. 3 Fantasy QB for the time being.
News: Charlie Frye recorded 1,002 passing yards, five TDs (four pass, one rush) and six INTs in seven games (five starts) as a rookie in Cleveland.
Analysis: There are questions as to whether Frye has what it takes to be a pro quarterback, but at this point it appears to be his spot to lose. At best, he will be worth a late-round flier in 2006 drafts.
News: Charlie Frye threw for 199 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's regular-season finale vs. Baltimore.
Analysis: Frye will have some late-round value in larger leagues next season, but he'll have to earn the top spot on the Browns' depth chart.
News: QB Charlie Frye will remain the starter in the season finale against Baltimore. Frye had a miserable afternoon against Pittsburgh. He was sacked eight times and fumbled four times. At times, he looked like the kid in the back yard who was scared so he just dropped the ball. Frye had never seen a defense like Pittsburgh's, both in scheme and ability. He has now -- and it shows how far he has to go in making the transition from third-round draft choice from Akron to NFL starter.
Analysis: Frye is not a reliable Fantasy option, but could develop into one by this time in 2006.
News: Charlie Frye (ankle) completed 20-of-39 for 183 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions in Week 16 against the Steelers.
Analysis: Frye is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens and their staunch defense.
News: Charlie Frye (ankle) is probable for Week 16 vs. Pittsburgh. He was sore after last week's victory over Oakland -- and was really feeling a shot to the ribs from linebacker Danny Clark. But Crennel said he does not think the injuries are serious and he expects Frye to play against Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Frye should not be on a Fantasy roster for the remainder of the 2005 season.
News: QB Charlie Frye was sore after last week's victory over Oakland game - and was really feeling a shot to the ribs from linebacker Danny Clark. But Crennel said he does not think the injuries are serious and he expects Frye to play against Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Frye should not be on a Fantasy roster for the remainder of the 2005 season.
News: Rookie Charlie Frye completed 21-of-32 for 198 yards, no touchdowns and an interception in Week 15 at Oakland to lead the Browns to a win.
Analysis: Frye is a solid keeper prospect, but should be reserved in Week 16 against the Steelers and Week 17 against the Ravens due to the difficult matchup.
News: QB Charlie Frye wore a support sleeve on his right knee in practice Wednesday. Coach Romeo Crennel said Frye is 'questionable-plus' and expects him to start against the Raiders.
Analysis: Frye is a sleeper at best for quarterbacks at this point in the season. Fantasy owners should stay away from him.
News: Browns rookie QB Charlie Frye started and played adequately, going 16-of-24 for 138 yards with two TDs (one rush) and an interception at Cincinnati in Week 14. He added 14 rush yards.
Analysis: Frye didn't throw for a lot of yards and was asked mainly to just "take care" of the football, doing so for most of the game. Frye may have a better statistical output at Oakland in Week 15.
News: Browns head coach Romeo Crennel has named Charlie Frye, not Trent Dilfer, his No. 1 quarterback for Week 14 at Cincinnati. The former Akron standout completed 13 of 20 passes for 226 yards with a pair of touchdown passes last week.
Analysis: Frye looked good against Jacksonville, but it's hard to trust him in the Fantasy Football postseason. Start him with caution.
News: The Beacon Journal reports Browns head coach Romeo Crennel will not name his starting quarterback for Week 14 until just before gametime.
Analysis: Charlie Frye started and made some plays in a loss to Jacksonville, but Crennel seems to side with Trent Dilfer when he's 100 percent.
News: Browns rookie QB Charlie Frye was 13-of-20 passing for 226 yards and two touchdowns in his first NFL start vs. Jacksonville in Week 13. He added 10 yards rushing.
Analysis: Considering the matchup, that's not bad. Frye will be in for another tough test at Cincinnati in Week 14. For now, only keeper-league owners should have an interest in Frye.
News: Charlie Frye, in his first NFL start, has completed 8-of-11 for 180 yards and two touchdown strikes to Braylon Edwards (17, 34) in the first half against the Jaguars in Week 13.
Analysis: The Browns have kept the training wheels on for Frye in the first half, but he has made the most of his opportunities when asked the throw. For the first time in years, the Browns fans actually have some sort of an exciting future to look towards with the combination of Frye and Edwards. Fantasy owners in keeper leagues should get their hands on these guys immediately.
News: ClevelandBrowns.com reports Charlie Frye will start in Week 13 against Jacksonville.
Analysis: Frye is not a recommended option in most leages against a tough Jaguars pass defense.
News: ClevelandBrowns.com reports head coach Romeo Crennel won't confirm who his starting quarterback will be when the Browns host the Jaguars in Week 13. Crennel did confirm that Trent Dilfer would be active and that Charlie Frye would play in multiple series. Both QBs split reps 50-50 in practice. "Even if I did know, why would I tell Jacksonville?" Crennel said. "Every little advantage you can get, you better take it."
Analysis: Most Fantasy owners probably aren't relying on the Browns quarterbacks anyway, but even if they did, neither one should start against a good Jags defense. Frye is best served as a benchwarmer in keeper leagues only.
News: Rookie quarterback Charlie Frye could get his first NFL start Sunday against the Jaguars because of an injury to Trent Dilfer. MRI testing on both of Dilfer's knees revealed tendinitis in his right knee. Dilfer hinted the injury is more severe, but he refused to give details. "I've had tendinitis in this knee for a while," Dilfer said Wednesday.
Analysis: Frye took virtually every snap with the starters Wednesday. Crennel still plans to use Dilfer if he can practice by Friday, but even if Dilfer does start, Frye is likely to play more against the Jaguars and in the final four games than he has played so far. Frye is still best served in keeper leagues, specifically on the bench in hopes of him being the main man for the Browns in 2006.
News: According to reports, an MRI on Trent Dilfer's knee revealed tendinitis. He is not expected to practice on Wednesday. "We'll have to see later in the week what his availability is and what he can do," head coach Romeo Crennel said.
Analysis: Dilfer would still start if he's able to practice on Friday, but at this point it appears rookie Charlie Frye has a chance to start in Week 13.
News: The Beacon-Journal reports Trent Dilfer (knees) will start in Week 13 against Jacksonville. He underwent MRI exams on Monday. "I don't anticipate any structural damage," head coach Romeo Crennel said of Dilfer. "He's probably just sore from the beating he took [against the Vikings]. With time, that's going to heal."
Analysis: Even if Dilfer is able to start, it appears rookie Charlie Frye will also see some time on the field for Crennel. Neither quarterback is a recommended starter in most leagues.
News: Replacing Trent Dilfer for a short period of time, rookie QB Charlie Frye threw one pass for an interception at Minnesota in Week 12.
Analysis: Frye's production could be amped soon if head coach Romeo Crennel surrenders the season and rolls with Frye as the starter as the Browns will ultimately start planning for 2006. Keeper-league owners should think about adding Frye.
News: Browns rookie QB Charlie Frye took over for Trent Dilfer in the second quarter of his team's Week 11 game vs. Miami. He completed three of his first six passes but was taken out to start the third quarter and played sparingly thereafter. He finished with 58 yards and an INT.
Analysis: Frye is a risky option for Fantasy owners in the short term, but does carry significant value in keeper leagues.
News: According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Browns coach Romeo Crennel named Trent Dilfer his starting quarterback for Week 11 vs. Miami and said he's not ready to turn the reins over to rookie Charlie Frye. "It's just because I'm not ready. Because my years of experience tell me to stay the line for a little while longer," said Crennel.
Analysis: Frye has the potential to be a good pro quarterback, but his value is limited to larger leagues from a Fantasy perspective.
News: The Beacon-Journal reports Trent Dilfer might lose the top spot on the Browns depth chart to rookie Charlie Frye in Week 9.
Analysis: Frye has the potential to be a good pro quarterback, but his value is limited to larger leagues from a Fantasy perspective.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Browns head coach Romeo Crennel is considering roster moves pertaining to the starting lineup, including replacing Trent Dilfer at quarterback with rookie Charlie Frye. Crennel did confirm that Dilfer will start for Cleveland vs. Detroit in Week 7.
Analysis: Frye isn't worth Fantasy consideration until he is put on the field and his play warrants a roster addition.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports rookie QB Charlie Frye will back up Trent Dilfer this season.
Analysis: Frye shouldn't be considered for a Fantasy roster spot unless he excels on the field after Trent Dilfer gets hurt or stumbles late into the season.
News: Browns rookie Charlie Frye completed 13 of 19 passes for 91 yards, a TD and an INT vs. the Lions. His TD was a seven-yard pass to Braylon Edwards, and his interception came on a pass intended for Edwards.
Analysis: Frye worked mainly with the second team. He put in a nice outing to claim his stake for the No. 2 job with the Browns.
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Charlie Frye will come in after Trent Dilfer in the team's second preseason game because veteran QB Doug Johnson is doubtful for the game with a sore shoulder.
Analysis: Frye will get a chance to show what he can do with the second team. If he impresses, he may end up being Dilfer's backup. Frye has some Fantasy value as a late pick in IDP leagues.
News: Browns rookie Charlie Frye agreed to a four-year, $5 million contract with the Browns. He will compete with Doug Johnson and Josh Harris for the Nos. 2 and 3 spots on the QB depth chart.
Analysis: Unless Frye finds the field in 2005, and he might late in the year, he doesn't have any Fantasy value.
News: ClevelandBrowns.com reports that rookie Charlie Frye will compete with veteran Doug Johnson and Josh Harris for not just the backup QB job, but also the Nos. 3 and 4 spots on the depth chart. "You always have to be ready to go," Frye said. "You have to be mentally into every single rep at practice. Staying into it is a big part of a being a backup quarterback in this league."
Analysis: Frye will make the team and could be Cleveland's quarterback of the future. This may render him useless in 2005 as he learns the ropes of quarterbacking from Trent Dilfer.
