Marcus Spears retires from football

(6/3/2014) Former Cowboys and Ravens defensive lineman Marcus Spears announced his retirement from football on Twitter. 

"Retirement papers in the mail!! Love you Dallas and Baltimore Fans! It's been my pleasure representing you all in The NFL! Grateful," he wrote.

Over nine seasons -- eight with the Cowboys -- Spears totaled 236 tackles and 10 sacks. 


Marcus Spears cut by Ravens

(11:28 am ET) The Ravens have waived defensive end Marcus Spears. Spears, who has missed parts of the season with a knee ailment, started one game and missed two while serving as a backup in the others.

Spears earned a $600,000 signing bonus from the team and would have earned $1.25 in non-guaranteed salary had he remained with the team in 2014, according to the Baltimore Sun.

They are end Chris Canty (thigh), linebacker Jameel McClain (neck) and tackle Marcus Spears (knee). All were full participants in practice the last two days and will almost certainly play Sunday against AFC North rivals Pittsburgh.

(10/11/2013) The Ravens have 12 players on their Friday injury report, but only one listed as doubtful for the Sunday clash against the Packers - little-used nose tackle Terrence Cody (neck). The others are questionable.

Among them are defensive players cornerback Chykie Brown (thigh), free safety Michael Huff (back), linebacker Albert McClellan (shoulder) and tackles Haloti Ngata (hip) and Marcus Spears (knee).

Offensive players deemed questionable are wide receivers Jacoby Jones (knee), Brandon Stokley (thigh) and Marlon Brown (thigh), center Ryan Jensen (foot), guard Kelechi Osemele (back) and running back Bernard Pierce (knee).

(10/6/2013) The Ravens released their inactives list for Week 5 against the Dolphins, and it features four players dealing with injuries: wide receivers Marlon Brown (thigh) and Jacoby Jones (knee); and defensive linemen Marcus Spears (knee) and Terrence Cody (knee).

Recently acquired tackle Eugene Monroe is also inactive, along offensive linemen Jah Reid and Ryan Jensen

(10/4/2013) The Ravens enter Week 5 against the Dolphins with five players list on Friday's injury report, four of whom are officially questionable for Sunday's game. Linebacker Arthur Brown (shoulder) is joined by Albert McClellan (shoulder), defensive lineman Marcus Spears (knee) and defensive back Lardarius Webb (thigh) as questionable after all were limited throughout the week in practice.

(3/16/2013) The Ravens moved quickly on defensive lineman Marcus Spears and signed the veteran to a two-year deal Friday, just one day after he was released by the Cowboys. Spears spent the past eight seasons with Dallas after being selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.
