News: The Seahawks announced Friday they have released veteran receiver Mike Williams. Williams finished last year with 18 catches for 236 yards and one touchdown after having 65 receptions in 2010 thanks in part to an ankle injury. "We would like to thank Mike for his contributions over the past two seasons and we wish him well in the future," said General Manager John Schneider in a statement.
Analysis: Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate should see a potential boost in targets following this release. Williams was never seriously considered a reliable Fantasy receiver in the first place after his tumble in 2011. Keep him off rosters.
News: Joining an ESPN report from early July, the Seattle Times reports that Mike Williams is one of several receivers on the roster bubble in camp this summer. Deon Butler and Ben Obomanu are other veterans who might struggle to make the cut. The Times believes no more than six receivers will make the final roster, with Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate considered locks.
Analysis: Williams finished last year with 18 catches for 236 yards and one touchdown after having 65 receptions a year ago. He is clearly in a fight for his job. Fantasy owners shouldn't consider him in drafts.
News: ESPN believes that Seahawks wide receiver Mike Williams is considered expendable given the number of young receiver talent on the roster heading into training camp. Williams is still fighting to get his injured ankle to 100 percent; he was running as far back as late April.
Analysis: Williams finished last year with 18 catches for 236 yards and one touchdown after having 65 receptions a year ago. He is clearly in a fight for his job. Fantasy owners shouldn't consider him in drafts.
News: According to the radio station 710 ESPN in Seattle, Seahawks receiver Mike Williams ran this for the first time Wednesday since his leg injury last December. Williams was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after suffering a broken left ankle in Week 15 at Chicago.
Analysis: Williams should be able to make a full recovery in time for training camp, but keep an eye on his progress. When healthy and active, Williams is a low-end Fantasy option in the majority of leagues.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after suffering a broken left ankle in Week 15 at Chicago. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Williams underwent successful surgery on to repair the ankle on Tuesday. Williams was injured in the third quarter of last Sundays win when he was tackled after making his second catch. Seattle signed DB Phillip Adams to take his place on the active roster.
Analysis: The injury capped a disappointing season for Williams, who had a breakout 2010 only to struggle in 2011. Williams finished the year with 18 catches for 236 yards and one touchdown, after having 65 receptions a year ago. He also slid down the depth chart with the rise of fellow receivers Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate. Fantasy owners should release him in all formats for the remainder of the season.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams was carted off the field in the third quarter Week 15 at Chicago with an ankle injury and didn't return. He had two catches for 31 yards before leaving. Coach Pete Carroll announced after the game that Williams had suffered a broken ankle and will miss the rest of the season.
Analysis: Sunday's game was Williams' second straight with two catches, but he had only 18 all season, slipping on the depth chart with the rise of players like Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate. He wasn't much of a Fantasy option this year, but if you for some reason still own him, feel free to drop him now.
News: After being held without a catch each of the last two games, Seahawks WR Mike Williams was able to get back on the board in Week 14 against the Rams. He was targeted for two passes from QB Tarvaris Jackson, catching both of them for 13 yards in the 30-13 win.
Analysis: Williams has not been able to get on track for the Seahawks this season and has just 16 catches for 205 yards thus far. While he is a big target for Jackson, he has not been looking his way as often as owners would like so continue to view Williams as a low-end Fantasy WR down the stretch.
News: Despite the fact that Seahawks WR Mike Williams again went without a catch in Week 13 against the Eagles, coach Pete Carroll said he isnt worried about the lack of production from last years leading receiver. As long as hes out there playing and doing what were asking him to do, Im fine about it," Carroll said. "I dont really care about the numbers.
Analysis: Williams has recorded just two catches for 62 yards over the last four games, being shutout three times over that span. After catching 65 passes for 751 yards a year ago, he has been very disappointing thus far but as long as he keeps playing, he should continue to see looks on a weekly basis so keep an eye on his progress going forward. Even with Sidney Rice out for the year, Fantasy owners should not turn to Williams as a Fantasy option for Week 14 against the Rams.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams failed to catch a pass in Week 13 against the Eagles and was targeted just twice by QB Tarvaris Jackson. On one of those looks, Williams landed on top of Eagles DB Nnamdi Asomugha, who left the game with a concussion. The Seahawks would win the game, 31-14.
Analysis: Williams has been held without a catch in three of his last four games. Those numbers are not what Fantasy owners look for. In Week 14 the Seahawks face the Rams on Monday night. St. Louis has given up 16 passing touchdowns and has allowed 205 passing yards per contest. Even with Sidney Rice out for the year, Fantasy owners should not turn to Williams as a Fantasy option.
News: Seattle wide receiver Mike Williams was targeted in the passing game three times by QB Tarvaris Jackson on Sunday of Week 12 against the Redskins. That said, Williams could not come down with a single catch in the Week 12 game.
Analysis: Williams is facing an Eagles team in Week 13 that is all of a sudden struggling to stop opposing wide receivers. The Eagles have allowed a WR to rack up at least 95 receiving yards in five straight games and entered Week 12 having allowed five touchdowns to the position in the last five weeks. Yes, the Eagles are seemingly falling apart in the secondary at the moment and Seattle could get lateral behind the quarterback Jackson. Jackson hasn't been the best at throwing the ball, but Williams could see a boost in production. That said, Williams has been awful all year and is not a recommended Fantasy option for the Week 13 game.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams registered a team-high 62 yards on just two receptions in the Seahawks' 27-4 win over St. Louis in Week 11. Williams' total also established a season high as he gained 55 yards alone after hauling in a pass from Sidney Rice on the first play of the game.
Analysis: A week after being held without a catch against Baltimore, Williams finished as Seattle's leading receiver on five targets in the game. The total eclipsed his previous season high of 41 yards, but he was held out of the end zone for the fourth consecutive game. Williams has been unable to duplicate his strong 2010 campaign as QB Tarvaris Jackson has struggled. Consider Williams a low-end WR option against Washington in Week 12.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams was an unexpected standout for the Seahawks last season. However, he's been unable to duplicate his strong campaign as injuries have limited him greatly in 2011. Williams finished without a catch for the second time this season during Seattle's victory over Baltimore last Sunday. He is hoping for a quick rebound in the passing game against St. Louis in Week 11.
Analysis: Williams hasn't had much success reaching the end zone much this season and remains stuck on one touchdown. But he has had some success against the Rams and registered a touchdown catch in the teams' last meeting. Williams also netted 48 total yards in two games with St. Louis last season. The Rams are surrendering an average of 24.4 Fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts. Still, Williams has been overshadowed by Seattle's other receivers and is not a recommended Fantasy option in Week 11.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams was targeted just once on Sunday and he failed to bring in the pass. QB Tarvaris Jackson looked to his running back, Marshawn Lynch, to carry the load in the Seahawks , 22-17, win over the Ravens in Week 10.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should keep an eye on the status of Sidney Rice and Doug Baldwin heading into Week 11 as both sustained head injuries. If they are unable to play, Williams' Fantasy value would go up. Seattle travels to St. Louis next week. As of right now, Williams is not a recommended Fantasy start.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams got a bit banged up on Sunday against Dallas, but he was able to practice on Wednesday. He's coming off a season-high 41 receiving yards in Week 9 and will look to continue that trend in Week 10 versus Baltimore. The Ravens have been allowing 193.6 passing yards per game this year and given up just six scores through the air. Opposing receivers are tallying 19.25 Fantasy points per contest against Baltimore so far this season. Williams has faced Baltimore once in his career, catching one pass for 7 yards in that game.
Analysis: Williams isn't 100 percent, but isn't on the injury report. Still, he hasn't been good enough this season to warrant much Fantasy attention. Heading into Week 10, Williams is not a recommended start in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams is expected to be limited some in practice in the week leading up to Week 10 against Baltimore, reports the Seattle Times. Williams injured his foot in the ankle area during the Week 9 game against the Cowboys. Williams caught three passes for 41 yards in the game.
Analysis: The 27-year-old receiver out of USC set a season-high with his 41 yards in the Week 9 game. Now he's dealing with an injury that is going to have him slightly questionable for the upcoming game against the Ravens. Fantasy owners can check back on his status, but Williams has become an unadvisable Fantasy option for most owners.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams caught three passes for 41 yards in a Week 9 loss to the Cowboys. The yardage total was Williams' highest mark of the season. He returned to action after missing Week 8 against the Bengals with a hamstring injury.
Analysis: Though Williams had one of his better game of the season, he still did not produce much for Fantasy owners. Having been supplanted by Sidney Rice and Doug Baldwin, Williams is no longer Seattle's top receiver and has become an unadvisable Fantasy option for most owners.
News: After missing two of the last three games, Seahawks WR Mike Williams (hamstring) is set to return for Week 9 against the Cowboys, as he was listed as active. Though Williams was limited in practice on Wednesday, it had been expected that he would be ready to play in Week 9.
Analysis: Even when healthy, Williams has not produced much for a Seattle passing attack that is one of the weakest in the league. While he will be active for Week 9, owners in nearly all formats should go with another alternative.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams (hamstring) is listed as probable on the team's injury report for Week 9 against Dallas. Williams was sidelined in Week 8 because of the injury, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Williams is expected to start in Sunday's game. "He's ready to get back in and battle," Carroll said. "He's going to play a lot this week."
Analysis: Williams has been a marginal contributor in Seattle's weak passing game and has just nine receptions for 89 yards. He has also not reached the end zone since recording his only score of the season against Atlanta in Week 4. The Seahawks seem to be content with Sidney Rice and Ben Obomanu earning the majority of looks, although Williams will start against the Dallas. Still, Fantasy owners should not consider Williams a viable option in most formats against the Cowboys.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (hamstring) will be limited in practice Wednesday, coach Pete Carroll said. Williams sat out Week 8 against the Bengals.
Analysis: Carroll said Monday that he expects Williams to return Week 9, but hamstring injuries are sometimes unpredictable, so it's no guarantee Williams will play this week. Regardless, he is no longer Seattle's top receiver and has become a pretty bad Fantasy option.
News: Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Monday that WR Mike Williams should be able to get back on the field in Week 9 against the Cowboys. Williams did not play in Sunday's 34-12 loss to the Bengals due to a hamstring injury.
Analysis: It appears Williams will try and get back on the field this Sunday, although he will have to make it through a full week of practice first. Fantasy owners should continue and monitor his status moving forward to make sure he doesn't suffer a setback. Williams has been disappointing after a breakout campaign in 2010, so consider him merely a low-end option, if he is healthy enough to play against the Cowboys.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams was listed among the inactives for Week 8 against the Bengals. Williams was held out of the game because of a hamstring injury that happened late in the week, coach Pete Carroll said. Williams returned from a concussion a week ago and was targeted four times, catching one pass for 10 yards.
Analysis: Williams has been disappointing after a breakout campaign in 2010 and will sit out on Sunday. Add to the fact that the Seahawks have a mess at QB at this point and the 27-year-old does not shape up to be a solid Fantasy option. Plan on leaving Williams in the bench in the majority of Fantasy leagues until he proves otherwise.
News: After catching just one pass for 10 yards a week ago, Seahawks WR Mike Williams will be looking for more production in Week 8 against the Bengals. Cincinnati enters Sunday ranked fifth in the league against the pass, giving up 189 yards per game, and have allowed an average of 13.3 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts.
Analysis: Williams returned from a concussion a week ago and was targeted four times. He has just nine catches for 89 yards through five games, and has been disappointing after a breakout campaign in 2010. Add to the fact that the Seahawks have a mess at QB at this point and the 27-year-old does not shape up to be a solid Fantasy option. Plan on leaving Williams in the bench in the majority of Fantasy leagues for Week 8.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams returned to the lineup in Week 7 against the Browns after missing one game with a concussion. Unfortunately, he caught just one pass for 10 yards on four targets.
Analysis: After a breakout campaign in 2010, Williams has played like his former self in 2011. A lot of it does have to do with the arrival of Sidney Rice and just poor QB play. But the fact of the matter is that Williams is a bad Fantasy option heading into Week 8 against the Bengals.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (concussion) is active for Week 7 at Cleveland. He returns to the lineup after missing one game.
Analysis: Following his resurgent season in 2010, Williams remains a limited option in the Seahawks' offense. He has not finished with more than four receptions in a game and not topped 40 yards as newcomer Sidney Rice has overshadowed him for targets. The Browns are allowing an average of just 14.4 Fantasy points per game, tied for the third-fewest in the NFL. Williams should not be considered a viable WR option for Week 7.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams is considered probable for Week 7 at Cleveland as he continues to be bothered by a concussion. Williams is expected to play after being a full participant in practice throughout the past week. He has not suited up since Week 4 when he scored his lone touchdown of the season.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams, who missed the team's last game with a concussion, has been cleared and practiced fully Wednesday. The Seahawks have played only two games with both starting receivers -- Williams and Sidney Rice -- and Williams left one of those games early with the concussion.
Analysis: Williams is expected to play in Week 7 against Cleveland, but he remains limited on offense. The 27-year-old has not recorded more than four catches in a game this season and has just one touchdown. Overall, Williams has eight receptions for 79 yards as he has been overshadowed by Seattle's addition of Rice. The Browns are yielding an average of just 14.4 Fantasy points per game this season, tied for the third-fewest in the NFL. Williams should not be considered a viable WR option for the Week 7 matchup.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams, who missed Sundays game because of a concussion suffered the week before, should be back at practice this week and play in the next game, Pete Carroll said on Monday. Seattle will be on a bye before playing the Browns in Week 7.
Analysis: After a breakout campaign a year ago, Williams has caught just eight passes for 79 yards so far this season. But he does have one touchdown and should be able to return for Week 7. Keep an eye on his progress and consider Williams a low-end Fantasy WR, when healthy.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (concussion) was listed among the team's inactives for Week 5 at the Giants. He had been ruled out on the injury report.
Analysis: Even if Williams was healthy, you probably wouldn't use him as a bye-week Fantasy replacement since he has gotten off to a poor start in 2011. Keep Williams reserved in Fantasy until further notice.
News: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said WR Mike Williams (concussion) won't play Week 5 against the Giants and he will be replaced in the starting lineup by Ben Obomanu.
Analysis: The fact Williams didn't practice all week didn't helped his cause. This is not shocking news, and even if Williams was healthy, you probably wouldn't use him as a bye-week Fantasy replacement since he has gotten off to a poor start in 2011. Keep Williams reserved in Fantasy until further notice.
News: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said on KIRO FM on Friday morning that WR Mike Williams (concussion) likely won't play Week 5 against the Giants. Ben Obomanu is expected to start in Williams place if he is indeed inactive.
Analysis: The fact Williams hasn't practiced all week hasn't helped his cause. This is not shocking news, and even if Williams was healthy, you probably wouldn't use him as a bye-week Fantasy replacement since he has gotten off to a poor start in 2011. Keep Williams reserved in Fantasy until further notice.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams did not practice again Thursday for the second straight day as he continues to be bothered by concussion-like symptoms. Williams suffered a head injury during the Seahawks' loss to Atlanta last Sunday and his status for Week 5 in uncertain. He has recorded eight receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown during his second season with Seattle following a two-year absence from the NFL. If he doesnt get medically cleared for this weekend, Ben Obomanu will likely start in Williams place.
Analysis: Williams still needs to undergo several tests under the NFL's concussion policy before he is able to return to practice. He hasn't been able to duplicate his strong numbers from last season as the Seahawks have struggled with Tarvaris Jackson under center. Even if he is healthy enough to play, he is not considered a viable Fantasy option against New York, which has permitted just one receiving touchdown in the past three weeks.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (concussion) was held out of practice on Wednesday. Williams left Sunday's contest against the Falcons in the second half after sustaining the injury while blocking on a Marshawn Lynch touchdown run.
Analysis: Williams will have to undergo tests and receive medical clearance if he is to play in Week 5 at the Giants. New York has not allowed a touchdown to an opposing wide receiver in each of the last two weeks (vs. Philadelphia and Arizona). Healthy or not, Williams is not somebody we recommend activating in Fantasy.
News: Seattle coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Monday to know if WR Mike Williams will be able to return in Week 5 against the Giants. Williams left Sunday's contest against the Falcons in the second half after sustaining the injury while blocking on a Marshawn Lynch touchdown run. They have to go through the process to get him reinstated and well do all of that," Carroll said. Williams caught passes for 36 yards and a touchdown prior to leaving the contest.
Analysis: Williams will now have to go through the NFL's concussion protocol this week, which usually involves going through a battery of tests. However, he will not be cleared until he completes the protocol, so Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status throughout the week. Williams can be considered a low-end Fantasy WR, when healthy. The Seahawks travel to New York to take on the Giants in Week 5.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams left the team's Week 4 outing after sustaining a head injury late in the second half while blocking on a Marshawn Lynch touchdown run. He did not return to the game in the Seahawks' 30-28 loss to Atlanta. Williams, who was seeking a larger role in the offense, finished with three receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown before departing. His 12.0 yards per catch represented his highest mark of the season. After the game, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Williams suffered a concussion.
Analysis: After throwing to Williams once last week, Seattle QB Tarvaris Jackson finally looked the receivers way on Seattles first drive of the second half. The duo connected for a pair of completions, including a 6-yard touchdown -- Williams' first of the season. Fantasy owners should certainly monitor Williams' status as he could be on the verge of becoming an increased target in the passing game. He remains a low-end Fantasy WR option.
News: Through the first three games of the season, Seattle WR Mike Williams has just five catches for 43 yards and was held without a reception in last Sunday's 13-10 win over Arizona. Williams has gone an entire half in each game without a single pass thrown his way by QB Tarvaris Jackson. In fact, Jackson has more rushing yards (45) through three games than Williams does receiving yards. Ive been around enough situations to have my own perspective on things," Williams said Thursday. "I just know Ive got to control what I can control."
Analysis: Williams experienced a career resurgence with the Seahawks last year. After being out of the league for two years, Williams latched on with Seattle over the offseason and vaulted up the depth chart to become Matt Hasselbecks go-to target. He posted three games with at least 10 catches and three 100-yard receiving games. Williams has been slowed by the presence of WR Sidney Rice, but is hoping to form a connection of his own with Jackson. However, he is not considered a viable option in Week 4 against Atlanta as the Falcons have permitted just one receiver to record more than five receptions in a game this year.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams hasn't been involved much in the passing game in 2011, being limited to five catches for 43 yards through three games. He was targeted just once and had no catches Sunday against Arizona, prompting coach Pete Carroll and QB Tarvaris Jackson to say they needed to do a better job getting Williams the football. Williams appears to be taking the high road and not worrying about his production. "When you win a game, thats all thats important," Williams said. "Its selfish to be talking about your own thing when you got your first win as a team and first step in the right direction. All I can do is control what I can control, and thats get back out here and get to work."
Analysis: You kind of expected Williams' production to dip in 2011 after the team ponied up to sign Sidney Rice. But Rice missed the first two games before returning with a big performance in Week 3. Let's face it though, Jackson is not an elite QB and the passing game in Seattle might be inconsistent all season. Leave Williams out of active Fantasy lineups until he starts to show some consistency on the field. Seattle hosts Atlanta in Week 4.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams was targeted just one time in Sunday's 13-10 win over Arizona. Last year he had 11 catches in each game against Arizona. Both Pete Carroll and QB Tarvaris Jackson said they need to get the ball to Williams more in the future.
Analysis: Williams definitely took a back seat to Sidney Rice in Week 3, which is definitely worth monitoring moving forward. Even though Jackson and Carroll want him to get the ball more, the proof is in the pudding as they say. The Seahawks host the Falcons in Week 4, a team that has been allowing 313 receiving yards per contest this year. Even with a favorable matchup, Williams is still just a ow-end No. 4 or flex option.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams is aiming to keep his dominance over Arizona heading into Week 3. In two meetings last year, Williams had 22 catches for 232 yards and two touchdowns. That comes out to a score and 116 yards per contest. The Cardinals haven't fared too well against the pass this year, giving up 356.5 yards per contest. Arizona has also allowed three touchdowns to receivers this year.
Analysis: Williams hasn't done much for Seattle this year, which is a shame because he's had every opportunity to secure the go-to guy option for the Seahawks with Sidney Rice banged up. That is obviously not the case as he was targeted just three times last week. While many Fantasy owners will keep him on the bench until Seattle proves they can score, based on his history Williams can be considered a low-end No. 4 or flex option for Week 3.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams had a rough game in Week 2 at the Steelers. Williams had one catch for 9 yards on just three targets.
Analysis: It was a rough game all around for the Seahawks, who were overwhelmed by the Steelers. Williams has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues even with Sidney Rice (shoulder) out. Ignore him in Week 3 against Arizona.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams was expected to step up on Sunday against the 49ers in Week 1, but he was outshined by rookie WR Doug Baldwin. Williams was targeted five times, catching five passes for 34 yards. He failed to score a touchdown in the contest. Seattle would lose the game, 33-17.
Analysis: Seattle was without Sidney Rice on Sunday, so Williams had a perfect opportunity to produce. Williams will probably need some more practice time with new QB Tarvaris Jackson to form a nice rapport. Seattle faces Pittsburgh in Week 2 and the status of Rice isn't known yet. Fantasy owners should continue to view Williams as a low-end WR option heading into next Sunday.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams had been dealing with a toe issue this preseason, but the Seahawks need him to start on Sunday against San Francisco. In Week 1 last year, Williams caught four passes for 64 yards against the 49ers. His longest reception was 35 yards in that game. He didn't play in the two team's second meeting in 2010 because of an ankle injury.
Analysis: Williams had three games in 2010 with 10 or more catches (two of them coming versus the Cardinals). With Sidney Rice dealing with a shoulder injury, Williams could be the No. 1 option for Tarvaris Jackson in Week 1. Fantasy owners should view Williams as a low-end starting WR choice this week, but if he can stay healthy and build a rapport with Jackson his stock could rise. For now monitor his production for the Seahawks.
News: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said WR Mike Williams (toe), who missed the final preseason game, should return to practice Wednesday and be ready to play in Sundays opener against the 49ers.
Analysis: Williams totaled four catches for 47 yards in the preseason as he was hobbled by the toe injury. But it seems as though Williams is going to play through the injury. We just hope it doesn't linger much longer because it could have a negative effect on his performance. The Seahawks brought in Sidney Rice this offseason, but Rice might have to sit out Week 1 because of a shoulder injury. Even if Rice is out Week 1, Williams will be more of a desperation Fantasy start. If you are still drafting, then consider Williams nothing more than a late-round Fantasy option.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams, who has been bothered with a toe injury, looked fine during Saturday's preseason game at Denver. Williams had three catches for 30 yards.
Analysis: Williams will be the No. 2 WR for Seattle this season opposite Sidney Rice. We consider Williams a No. 4 Fantasy WR in standard leagues, and he could be considered a low-end No. 3 option in PPR formats.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams hauled in one catch for 17 yards during his preseason debut during Saturday's game against Minnesota. Williams, who was sidelined for the Seahawks' exhibition opener last week with a toe injury, was targeted two times during the outing.
Analysis: Williams was able to return to practice over the week and doesn't seem to be affected by the minor toe issue. The former Southern California standout had a resurgent season with his former coach Pete Carroll at the helm in 2010 and tallied career highs in receptions (65) and receiving yards (751). The Seahawks added Sidney Rice this season, which could affect his targets. Fantasy owners should look to Williams in the later rounds of upcoming drafts for now.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams, who missed Thursday's preseason game against the Chargers with a toe injury, has participated in the past three days of practice, and appears to be on track to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.
Analysis: Williams missing one preseason game isn't a big deal, especially given how bad the Seahawks quarterbacks played against San Diego. But it appears he is making progress and his status for the season opener isn't in doubt. Williams will start opposite Sidney Rice, but until the Seahawks get some stability under center, then Williams is nothing more than a late-round Fantasy option in standard seasonal formats.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams was unable to finish practice Tuesday after spraining his toe Monday. Williams isn't expected to play during Thursday's preseason game against the Chargers. Its not real serious but its enough to bother me, coach Pete Carroll said. Its a stretch to think hell be ready to play. I think were probably going to hold him out.
Analysis: It sounds as though Williams is dealing with just a minor training camp injury and the Seahawks want to rest him so it doesn't turn out to be a lingering issue. Don't downgrade Williams in Fantasy because of this injury. The bigger issues for him is an unsettled QB situation and the arrival of Sidney Rice and Zach Miller taking away targets. Consider Williams more of a late-round Fantasy option as a reserve receiver.
News: With the Seahawks bringing in WR Sidney Rice in late July, the prospects for veteran WR Mike Williams get dimmer. Williams finished with 65 catches for 751 yards and two touchdowns last season on 110 targets. All of those numbers are expected to drop with Rice coming aboard.
Analysis: Tack on the lack of a quality quarterback in Seattle and Williams isn't an appealing option after all. Figure that he's safer in PPR formats that anything else, but that's really about it. He's a low-end No. 3 WR in those formats and a reserve in standard play. Don't take him before the late rounds.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams said during an appearance on 710AM radio in Seattle that he's keeping his weight in check during the lockout with a whole lot of exercise. "I average about five-and-a-half, six hours of cardio a day, just between field work and in-the-gym work. And I try to get my basketball in every day," Williams said. "When you have the issues that (I've had), you have to go a little above and beyond." Williams reportedly weighed 286 pounds when the Titans signed and later cut him in 2007, which began his two-year absence from the NFL. The three-year contract extension Williams signed in January includes a weight clause. His listed weight last season was 235 pounds. "I like where I'm at," he said.
Analysis: We expect Williams to pick up where last season ended, when he was the No. 1 WR for Seattle and finished with 65 catches for 751 yards and two touchdowns. He has the potential to do more, especially with a good offseason, and he should be considered a No. 4 Fantasy WR coming into the year with the chance to be a solid No. 3 option, especially in PPR formats. He is worth drafting with a mid- to late-round pick in all formats.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams tallied four receptions for 15 yards and two touchdowns in the Seahawks' 35-24 loss at Chicago in the NFC Divisional Playoff. Williams was targeted a whopping 13 times by Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck but managed his lowest yards per catch average of the season (3.8). His two touchdowns came in the fourth quarter on with the game already decided on passes of 2 and 3 yards from Hasselbeck. On his second touchdown, Williams made a nifty grab just before the ball hit the ground after Hasselbeck's pass was deflected by Chicago DB Charles Tillman in the end zone.
Analysis: After being out of the NFL for the last two years, Williams resurrected his career with the Seahawks and his former coach at USC, Pete Carroll. The 27-year-old receiver totaled 65 receptions for 751 yards -- both career highs -- during the regular season and finished with nine receptions and three touchdowns in the first two playoff games of his career. Williams recorded three 100-yard outings in his first 10 weeks of the season but was slowed by injuries in the second half and never topped 70. Still, Williams, who signed a three-year contract extension with Seattle, makes for an intriguing option as mid-round pick in 2011 Fantasy drafts.
News: Stopping Seahawks WR Mike Williams in the Divisional Playoff round will be a point of emphasis for the Bears after his 10 catches in the last game against Chicago in Week 6. "You could say that," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "He had a career day against us last time. You have to respect what he's done as far as coming back, being out of the league a couple of years."
Analysis: Williams has a touchdown in each of his last two games. While he had just 751 yards and two touchdowns in the 2010 regular season, Williams still had 65 catches and three 100-yard games this season. He was gaining momentum around Week 10 and 11, but then he missed a few games due to injury. He finally seems back at 100 percent and is a decent Fantasy option for playoff formats. Williams is coming back to Seattle in 2011, so consider him a nice mid-round Fantasy pick.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams got his first career touchdown in the postseason on Saturday against New Orleans. The one-time bust receiver has resurrected his career with the Seahawks. He was targeted eight times by QB Matt Hasselbeck, catching five passes for 68 yards. His third quarter touchdown put Seattle up 31-20 over New Orleans. The Seahawks would hold on for the 41-36 victory and advance to an NFC Divisional game next weekend. he former first-round pick finished the regular season with a career-best 65 catches for 751 yards and two touchdowns.
Analysis: Williams signed a three-year extension to stay in Seattle, and coach Pete Carroll said his receivers deal is proof that there are rewards for hard work in Seattle's system. Fantasy owners were rewarded after picking Williams up off waivers this year. He did deal with some injuries towards the end of the season, which hurt his Fantasy value a bit. The only question now is who will be throwing him the ball. Hasselbeck is a free agent, so the quarterback situation will play a big part in his draft value in 2011. In the playoff challenge, owners should view Williams as a viable option.
News: One-time bust Mike Williams has found a home in Seattle. And the Seahawks' leading receiver is sticking around for a few more seasons after signing a three-year extension. The deal was announced on Monday and was finalized over the weekend before Seattle beat St. Louis to win the NFC West and become the first sub-.500 division champion in league history. Seattle coach Pete Carroll says Williams' deal is proof that there are rewards for hard work in the Seahawks system.
Analysis: It's been a banner season for Williams, who spent the previous two years out of the NFL. The former first-round pick finished the regular season with a career-best 65 catches for 751 yards and two touchdowns. He might have had even better numbers had he not been slowed by injury late in the year. Now that Williams is coming back to Seattle next season it will be interesting to see who will be throwing him passes with QB Matt Hasselbeck set to become a free agent. Monitor Williams' progress in the playoffs and the situation under center in the offseason to see if Williams still warrants the mid-round Fantasy pick he is projected to be next summer.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams found the end zone on the first drive of the Week 17 game against the Rams. He finished with three catches for 16 yards from QB Charlie Whitehurst, who targeted him six times on the night. The touchdown allowed Williams to finish with career-highs in catches (65), yards (751) and TDs (two) in 2010.
Analysis: Williams is one of the leading candidates for NFL comeback player of the year after being labeled as one of the biggest draft busts of the last decade. He is the unquestioned No. 1 WR in Seattle, and he has the chance to become a staple there if he can put in a solid post season. He will get a chance to do so next week against the Saints. If he continues to play well, Williams could be a low-end No. 2 WR in Fantasy play in 2011 -- depending on the team's QB situation. Matt Hasselbeck is a free agent after the year. Monitor his progress in the playoffs and the situation under center to see if he still warrants the mid-round pick he does as of right now.
News: The Rams head into their Week 17 matchup against the Seahawks knowing there is a very good chance QB Charlie Whitehurst will have to start over the injured Matt Hasselbeck (hip). However, that doesn't take the fear out of facing WR Mike Williams. He can go up tall for the ball," Rams defensive coordinator Ken Flajole said. "And tall receivers dont necessarily have to elevate for the ball. Just being a tall guy with long arms allows him to overreach on a defensive back. He creates some problems that way. St. Louis held Williams to four catches for 32 yards in Week 4. The Rams are allowing WRs to average 20.9 Fantasy points per week.
Analysis: While St. Louis is showing Williams the respect he deserves, the fact of the matter is that Whitehurst doesn't prove as big of threat as Hasselbeck. Williams played most of the game last week with Whitehurst and finished with just two catches for 15 yards against Tampa Bay. A playoff berth is on the line in Week 17, so Williams is going to play most of the game. It's just hard to trust him as more than a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams had one of his worst days of the year in the Week 16 loss to the Buccaneers. He was only able to haul in two passes, both from QB Matt Hasselbeck -- who left the game with a hip injury in the first quarter. Williams had just 15 yards on the pair of grabs. QB Charlie Whitehurst replaced the injured Hasselbeck, but he and Williams failed to connect. There aint nothing about this week or the previous week that makes me think that we can just turn it on for next week, Williams said.
Analysis: Williams had his second-worst game of the season yardage-wise, and his third-worst in terms of receptions. He was targeted just four times in the game, but the Bucs anticipated the pass as they played with the lead for the majority of the game. Heading into Week 17 against the Rams, Williams looks like a flex option in Fantasy play heading into that matchup. Whitehurst was reliant on Williams last week, but barely looked his way Sunday. Hasselbeck has established some decent chemistry with Williams, so the injury status should be monitored moving forward.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams has three games with 10-plus receptions in 2010 and is the first Seattle player with three 10-catch games in a season. Williams returned from an ankle injury last week against the Falcons after missing the majority of the previous three games. In Week 16, Seattle travels to Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers have been giving up 209.5 passing yards per contest this year, which translates into 19.3 Fantasy points per game. After his eight-catch outing last week, it doesn't seem like Williams has too much rust to shake off. The biggest question for him will be how effective his quarterbacks -- Matt Hasselbeck (the starter) or Charlie Whitehurst (the backup) -- are on Sunday.
Analysis: Williams has 60 receptions for 720 yards -- both career highs -- this season for Seattle. He has six games where he's got more than 60 receiving yards, his previous high was two back in 2005. Williams may not be the best receiver for Week 16 Fantasy lineups, but he's definitely not the worst. Fantasy owners should view him as a No. 3 WR option for Week 16. He has a tough matchup and the quarterback situation in Seattle is not the best situation for a receiver to be in.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams returned from an ankle injury Sunday to post eight receptions for 66 yards in the Seahawks' 34-18 loss to Atlanta in Week 15. Williams, who played just one series in his previous three games, was targeted a team-high 13 times by Seattle quarterbacks as the Seahawks were forced to throw often while trailing most of the game. Williams' resurgent year continues and he now has 60 receptions for 720 yards -- both career highs -- this season.
Analysis: Sunday's game represented a solid return for Williams, who was listed as probable on the injury report. The fourth-year receiver didn't appear bothered by the nagging ankle problems running routes and finished with three plays for 10 yards or longer. Williams, who has been largely boom-or-bust for most of the season, now has six games with more than 60 receiving yards (his previous career high was two in 2005). He should be considered a low-end No. 2 Fantasy WR for Seattle's Week 16 game at Tampa Bay. The Bucs' pass defense is ranked 11th in the NFL, allowing 206.2 yards per game.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams (ankle) is active for the Seahawks' Week 15 game against Atlanta. Williams, who was listed as probable on the injury report, was limited in practice on Thursday. In his first season with Seattle, Williams has recorded 52 receptions for 654 yards and a touchdown in 11 games.
Analysis: Williams had missed two of the Seahawks' last three games and played only one series in the other outing. Seattle will also get Ben Obomanu back for the game to give quarterback Matt Hasselbeck plenty of receiving options. The Falcons rank 24th in the NFL in pass defense, yielding 233.2 yards a game. Consider Williams a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option as he could be rusty from his limited action recently.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (ankle) is officially listed as probable for Week 15 vs. Atlanta. You can only watch so much film, youve got to get out and do it," said Williams, who practiced all week in some capacity. "The weeks I was trying to limp back into it, from a mental standpoint it was a challenge not having the practice reps."
Analysis: The Falcons have been suspect against the pass this season, so Williams will be worth starting as a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option for this matchup. The weather is expected to be a little wet on Sunday in Seattle though, so temper your expectations a little for Williams.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (ankle), who was able to practice fully on Wednesday, was limited Thursday as Seattle prepares to face Atlanta in Week 15. Williams was inactive for Week 14.
Analysis: We can't really call this a setback. It could be the Seahawks' plan all along to rest Williams so he doesn't suffer a setback with his injured ankle. Unless Williams is listed as probable on the injury report, we anticipate him being a game-time decision. The Falcons have been suspect against the pass this season, so if Williams is healthy, he would be worth starting as a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option.
News: Wide receiver Mike Williams returned to practice Wednesday after he missed Week 14 with a sprained left ankle suffered in his first game back after missing a week with a foot injury. Im excited," Williams said. "Its been a very frustrating last few weeks. I was kind of getting in my groove then I hit a couple of bumps.
Analysis: Williams has had some exceptional games, including three games with at least 10 catches. Overall he has 654 yards on 52 grabs, but with just one touchdown. He's going to be hard to trust in Week 15 given the matchup and questions about his health, so consider other options before going with Williams in your league. It is looking good for him, so we'll keep you posted on his status.
News: Seattle wide receivers Mike Williams and Ben Obomanu are expected to practice this week and have a good chance of playing in Week 15 vs. the Falcons according to the Seattle Times. Williams missed Week 14 with a sprained left ankle suffered in his first game back after missing a weeks with a foot injury.
We'll keep you posted on his status.
News: The Seahawks were missing both starting wide receivers for the Week 14 game in San Francisco. Seattle had both Ben Obomanu and Mike Williams as inactives for the game. Williams is out with an ankle injury. He was questionable entering the Week 14 game. Ruvell Martin and Deon Butler started for Seattle.
Analysis: Seattle's passing game was in trouble prior to both receivers being out for the Week 14 game. At this point, we wouldn't trust any Seattle receiver. Williams has been a receiver worth using in Fantasy play for most of the season but should be avoided in all formats for the Week 14 game.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams again missed practice Friday with his injured ankle, and he will be a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup at San Francisco in Week 14. Williams did not practice all week after getting hurt in Week 13 against Carolina. Coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks are moving forward thinking he won't play, but a final decision will come Sunday. "Mike's a little more of an issue because we've got to make sure he can run full-speed on Sunday," Carroll said.
Analysis: We don't expect Williams to play against the 49ers, but continue to monitor his progress leading up to the game. If he does play he would be considered a No. 4 Fantasy WR at best, but Fantasy owners should not plan on using him in this matchup.
News: As expected, top receivers Mike Williams (ankle) and Ben Obomanu (foot) both sat out practice for the second consecutive day Thursday. Neither have been ruled out for Week 14 against the 49ers, but if one or both doesn't play, the Seahawks will need Deon Butler or rookie Golden Tate to fill the void.
Analysis: There are conflicting stories right now about Williams' Week 14 status. A report earlier in the week had Williams out Week 14, but his head coach, Pete Carroll, won't go that far yet. If Williams practices Friday, then there is some hope he will go on Sunday. If Williams does somehow manage to play, he would be an injury-risk Fantasy option because he's unlikely to be anywhere close to 100 percent.
News: The Seattle Times reports that Seahawks WR Mike Williams (ankle) has shed his walking boot but did not practice Wednesday.
Analysis: A report Monday from NFL Network said that Williams won't play in Week 14, but coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday he still hopes his star receiver can suit up on Sunday against the 49ers. If Williams does somehow manage to play, he would be more of a No. 3 option because he's unlikely to be anywhere close to 100 percent.
News: NFL Network reports that Seattle WR Mike Williams is expected to miss Week 14 at San Francisco and could be out longer. The report says Williams isn't expected to go on injured reserve, but he might be out a few weeks. Williams injured his ankle in Week 13 against Carolina and has been dealing with an ongoing foot problem.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Williams and see if the report is accurate heading into Week 14 against the 49ers. We don't expect Williams to play, and he has minimal Fantasy value at this point in the season. It's safe to cut Williams in most standard leagues if he's out for this week and longer since he might not be able to help you in the Fantasy playoffs.
News: Seattle wide receiver Mike Williams, the team's leading in receiving yards and receptions, suffered a sprained left ankle in the Seahawks' Week 13 game against Carolina. The injury came on Seattle's first offensive possession of the game and he did not return. Williams, who was already nursing a foot strain that kept him out of the Seahawks' Week 12 game, was rolled up on while blocking during a run by Justin Forsett. Seattle coach Pete Carroll said after the game that the sprain isn't serious and his previous foot injury was not affected. Williams didn't record a reception or target before leaving the game.
Analysis: A disappointing day for Fantasy owners who were hoping for a big outing from Williams. The wideout, who has three 100-yard receiving games this season, was hurt on the third play of the game and was immediately attended to by trainer on the sideline. Williams wasn't in the locker room after the game and his status for Week 14 is unknown. If he is able to play, there will undoubtedly be concerns about this health. He might only be a No. 3 Fantasy WR at this point.
News: Seattle wide receiver Mike Williams left Sunday's Week 13 game against Carolina with an apparent ankle injury. He will not return, according to Fox. Williams appeared to have been injured after Seahawks running back Justin Forsett landed on his lower left leg during their first dive of the game. Williams was attended to by trainers on the sideline following the play.
Analysis: This is certainly a tough blow to Williams and Fantasy owners on just the third play of the game. Williams, who had been cleared to play Sunday after being listed as questionable on the injury report with a foot injury, did not return to the field at all. He left with no receptions and no targets.
News: Seattle wide receiver Mike Williams left Sunday's Week 13 game against Carolina with an apparent ankle injury. Williams appeared to have been injured after Seahawks running back Justin Forsett landed on his lower left leg during their first dive of the game. Williams, who was attended to by trainers on the sideline following the play, is questionable to return.
Analysis: A tough blow to Williams and Fantasy owners on just the third play of the game. Williams, who had been cleared to play Sunday after being listed as questionable on the injury report with a foot injury, missed the Seahawks' entire second series and the beginning of the team's third drive. He left with no receptions and no targets.
News: Seattle wide receiver Mike Williams is active and will play in the Seahawks' Week 13 game against Carolina. Williams, listed as questionable on the injury report, missed practice Wednesday and Thursday but was able to participate Friday. Williams, who did not play in Week 12, has a team-leading 52 receptions for 654 yards this season.
Analysis: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was optimistic Williams would play and he was correct. Williams looked good in pregame warm-ups Sunday and will suit up against a Panthers defense that has allowed 30-plus points in three of its last four games. There is slight concern with Williams not being 100-percent healthy and facing a surprisingly tough Panthers pass defense (seventh in the NFL). Consider Williams a high-end No. 3 Fantasy WR and shift Seattle receiver Ben Obomanu down to No. 3 status since Williams should get most of the targets Sunday.
News: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Friday that WR Mike Williams (foot) should play Sunday against the Panthers. Williams was able to make it through practice on Friday for the first time since injuring his left foot in New Orleans two weeks ago. Coach Pete Carroll said Williams will need to make it through pregame workouts on Sunday, but if he can do that he'll play against the Panthers. He said that if Williams can play, they don't intend to cut back on his workload. "If he's going, he's going," Carroll said. Williams, on the other hand, is hoping to play Sunday, but he sounded less optimistic. "I ain't right, but I think I'm good enough," Williams said.
Analysis: This injury comes at a bad time since Williams had back-to-back 100-yard games and was developing into a reliable Fantasy option. Even if he returns in Week 13, he won't be close to 100 percent and might be more of a No. 3 Fantasy WR than anything else. The matchup against the Panthers, whose pass defense ranks eighth in the league, doesn't help his cause. If the decision comes on Sunday, check back with us at about 2:45 p.m. EST when the inactives are released.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (foot) sat out practice again Thursday, but as was also the case Wednesday, he was able to run and catch passes after practice. He will likely be a game-day decision. Seattle takes on Carolina in Week 13.
Analysis: This injury comes at a bad time since Williams had back-to-back 100-yard games and was developing into a reliable Fantasy option. Even if he returns in Week 13, if he is not 100 percent, then he remains an injury-risk Fantasy option. Stay tuned, but if the decision comes on Sunday, check back with us at about 3 p.m. EST when the inactives are released.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams, who missed Week 12 with a foot injury, did not practice on Wednesday leading up to Week 13 against the Panthers. However, he was able to run and coach Pete Carroll said, "I think (Williams) surprised himself."
Analysis: Well, running is a first step, but it's going to take a lot more for Williams to dress for Week 13. This injury comes at a bad time since Williams had back-to-back 100-yard games and was developing into a reliable Fantasy option. Even if he returns Week 13, if he is not 100 percent, then he remains an injury-risk Fantasy option. Stay tuned.
News: Seattle coach Pete Carroll said the status of WR Mike Williams (foot) wont be known until later in the week. Weve got to wait and see," Carroll said. "Today they looked at him and there wasnt a lot of improvement. Were going to have to go day to day. Williams was inactive for Week 12 against the Chiefs.
Analysis: Williams has been playing well for the Seahawks, but if he's not on the field he doesn't do Seattle or Fantasy owners much good. Continue to monitor him through the week to see if he's worth using in Week 13 against Carolina. If he's healthy, owners should view him as a No. 3 Fantasy WR option.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (foot) was listed among the inactives for Week 12 against the Chiefs. He went through a workout about two hours before kickoff Sunday. But when inactives were announced 30 minutes later, Williams was on the list. He was hurt late in last week's loss at New Orleans. Deon Butler got the start in Williams' place.
Analysis: Williams has played well of late but he was unable to go against the Chiefs. Fantasy owners should stash him away for Week 12 and keep an eye on his progress to make sure he will be able to play in Seattle's next game. Although he has just one touchdown grab, the 26-year-old is having a breakout campaign with 654 yards receiving. He has a favorable schedule over the next few weeks (Carolina and San Francisco) so continue to hold onto Williams in most formats for his 52 receptions on the year.
News: Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Friday that WR Mike Williams (foot), who didn't practice all week, would be a game-day decision for Sunday's game against Kansas City in Week 12. Carroll has been vague about the nature of Williams' foot injury throughout the week referring to it as an "unusual" injury and something the team's doctors hadn't seen before. However, when asked about what the injury is, he merely called it a "foot strain." Williams still had a protective boot on his left foot Friday.
Analysis: Williams has played well of late so hopefully he will be able to play against the Chiefs. Kansas City ranks 25th in the league against the pass, allowing over 244 yards per game, and have given up an average of 21.6 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts. In the last two games, Williams had 17 catches for 254 yards as the Seahawks put up their two highest yardage totals of the season. We don't expect Williams to play in Week 12, so plan on setting your lineup with him on the bench unless something changes as of Sunday morning.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams did not practice Thursday for a second straight day because of a foot issue. His status for the Week 12 game against the Chiefs is still up in the air, Pete Carroll said. "It seems like, from what I'm hearing from the trainers and the doc, that it's the worst it's already been and it's improving from this point forward and there's not a concern about it continuing to worsen," Carroll said. "It's just how long does it take it to get well enough to where he can go full-speed." If Williams can't play, it will be a big blow to an offense that is finally finding its way. In the last two games, Williams had 17 catches for 254 yards as the Seahawks put up their two highest yardage totals of the season.
Analysis: Williams played through this injury for most of Sunday's loss to the Saints, but things aren't looking good at this point for him playing in Week 12. Williams has been one of the few bright spots for the Seahawks' offense this season as he has posted 52 receptions for 654 receiving yards and a touchdown on the season. Fantasy owners should monitor his progress in practice on Friday to see if Williams will play on Sunday. He can be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR, when healthy.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams did not practice Wednesday as he is still wearing a walking boot on his injured foot. Williams has been one of the few bright spots for the Seahawks' offense this season as he has posted 52 receptions for 654 receiving yards and a touchdown on the season. Fantasy owners should monitor his progress in practice over the next couple of days to see if Williams will play on Sunday. He can be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR, when healthy.
News: Coach Pete Carroll said WR Mike Williams will be day to day with a foot sprain that is less serious than originally feared. "He did something very unusual to his foot," Carroll said. "It might not be as serious as we had originally thought, but we're going to have to wait and see how he responds." Williams sprained his foot during Sunday's 34-19 loss to the Saints. He finished with six receptions for 109 yards prior to sustaining the injury.
Analysis: Williams has been one of the few bright spots for the Seahawks' offense this season as he has posted 52 receptions for 654 receiving yards and a touchdown on the season. He remains a favorite target of Matt Hasselbeck's and will most likely end up on the injury report when it comes out on Wednesday. Fantasy owners should monitor his progress in practice this week to see if Williams will play in Week 13 against the Chiefs. He can be considered a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR, when healthy.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams hurt his foot in Week 11 in New Orleans. He had six catches for 109 yards, his long going for 68 yards. He was ruled out for the game. He was injured after making a catch along the sideline. His injury is being classified a sprained foot. Seattle would lose the game on Sunday, 34-19.
Analysis: Williams is having a career year for Seattle. He's been a bright spot for the Seahawks as he has 516 receiving yards on the year. He's only scored one touchdown, but is Matt Hasselbeck's favorite target. Williams played through a broken finger last week and now has a foot issue to deal with. Fantasy owners should keep their eyes on this situation heading into Week 12. Seattle hosts Kansas City and will need Williams on the field to have a chance for the win. If he's healthy owners should consider him a low-end No. 3 WR option. The Chiefs entered Week 11 allowing 240 passing yards per game.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams is having the best year of his professional career in 2010 and is making Seahawks' history in the process. Williams has three 10-plus catch games this year -- the first Seattle receiver to do so -- all three coming in his last five games. In those games he's caught 35 passes for 407 yards and one touchdown. He had a career day in Week 10 as he had 145 yards receiving. After being held to 326 yards and 10 points in their previous two games, the Seahawks exploded for 490 yards and 36 points last week. When you have a couple bad games and you go out and have a good one, it always feels good, Williams said. Looking ahead, Williams and the Seahawks face a Saints defense that is the best in the business against the pass. New Orleans is allowing 166.3 passing yards per game this year.
Analysis: Williams put up his career game last week and played with a broken finger, which doesn't make catching the ball any easier. He broke his pinkie on his right hand in practice last week, but it's not considered serious. The more important thing to keep your eye on his Matt Hasselbeck. If his broken left wrist keeps him out of action on Sunday, Williams' Fantasy value will take a big hit. If Hasselbeck plays, Fantasy owners should view Williams as a low-end No. 3 WR option, but if he doesn't play Williams should be considered a flex option at best.
News: The Seattle Times reports Seahawks WR Mike Williams played through a broken finger in Sunday's game at Arizona in Week 10. He broke the pinkie on his right hand in Thursday's practice, but played the entire game against the Cardinals and finished with 11 catches for 145 yards, both career highs. Williams was targeted 17 times in the game and had a long reception of 32 yards. It was his second 100-yard performance of the year.
Analysis: Williams is having a breakthrough season with the Seahawks and has been a solid Fantasy option, but he has a tough matchup in Week 11 at New Orleans. Keep an eye on his finger and his QB with Matt Hasselbeck now dealing with a broken left wrist. Hasselbeck and Williams are expected to play against the Saints, and Williams should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy WR.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams had a career day in Week 10 against the Cardinals. He caught 11 passes for 145 yards, both career highs, in the 36-18 win. Williams was targeted 17 times in the game and had a long reception of 32 yards. It was his second 100-yard performance of the year. Williams led Seattle in targets, receptions and receiving yards in the victory.
Analysis: Williams had more catches and receiving yards in Week 10 than he had in his previous three games combined and definitely benefited from having QB Matt Hasselbeck back under center for Seattle. Williams is having a career year and has finally put it all together after a rough first few years in the league. He now has three games this season in which he has posted double-digit receptions and hopefully will be able to take his solid play forward into Week 11. Williams will face of against the Saints and their No. 1 ranked pass defense next Sunday. Consider the 26-year-old a low-end No. 2/ high-end No. 3 against New Orleans.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams as active for Week 10 against the Cardinals after being limited in practice earlier in the week with a finger injury. He caught 11 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown when the division foes met earlier in the year. Arizona comes into Sunday's game ranked 27th in the league against the pass, giving up over 255 yards per contest, and have allowed an average of 22 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts this season.
Analysis: Williams, who had stitches put in his finger this week, missed some practice time but was good to go for Week 10. He had a productive game against the Cardinals last time around and it looks as though he will have QB Matt Hasselbeck back throwing him the ball, which bodes well for Fantasy owners. The 26-year-old caught just three passes for 52 yards over Seattle's last two games, which some could blame on QB Charlie Whitehurst. Williams has one 100-yard receiving game on the year with one touchdown but should fare better against Arizona on Sunday. Still, until he proves to be a consistent Fantasy contributor on a week-to-week basis, he should be considered a low-end No. 2/ high-end No. 3 option.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams did not have his finest performance in his last outing but has success against his Week 10 opponent -- the Cardinals. Williams caught 11 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown when the division foes met earlier in the year. Arizona comes into Sunday's game ranked 27th in the league against the pass, giving up over 255 yards per contest, and have allowed an average of 22 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts this season. Williams has dealt with a bruised knee for two weeks, and also had stitches put in a finger this week. He missed some practice time, but he's listed as probable for Sunday's game.

3 option.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams was not much of a factor in Week 9 against the Giants. Williams was targeted a team-high eight times in the 41-7 loss, but finished with just two receptions for 25 yards. Charlie Whitehurst really struggled passing the ball against New York, which limited Williams production. He averaged 12.5 yards per reception and had a long of 17 yards in the rout.
Analysis: Williams has just three receptions for 52 yards over Seattle's last two games. Some of that can be blamed on the absence of Matt Hasselbeck, but the Giants also keyed in on him Sunday. Hopefully Hasselbeck will be cleared to play in Week 10 against the Cardinals and Williams and the Seattle offense can get back on track. Arizona has allowed 13 touchdowns through the air this season and are ranked in the bottom half of the league in passing defense. If Hasselbeck is cleared to play, consider Williams a No. 3 Fantasy option against the Cardinals.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams has officially been ruled active for Week 9 against the Giants. Williams, who has been dealing with a bruised knee, didn't practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but was able to participate in full on Friday.
Analysis: Williams had just one catch for 27 yards in a Week 8 loss to Oakland and now will have to face a tough Giants' defense without starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. New York boasts the second-best pass defense in the NFL, but have given up 10 passing touchdowns, so Williams might still be worth a look. Only consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option at best though, as New York is likely to double-team him most of the day and force someone else to try and beat them.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (knee) is listed as probable for Week 9 against the Giants. He returned to practice after missing two days, and Pete Carroll expects him to play. "Mike had an excellent day today," Carroll said. "He popped right back and did everything. You wouldn't have even known he was banged up." Williams lost his starting quarterback Thursday when Matt Hasselbeck was ruled out for Week 9 with a head injury. The Giants boast the NFL's second best pass defense and have allowed an average of 18.6 Fantasy points to opposing WRs this season.
Analysis: Williams had just one catch for 27 yards in a Week 8 loss to Oakland after producing two outstanding games coming off the bye. The Giants have the second-best pass defense in the NFL, but have given up 10 passing touchdowns, so Williams might still be worth a look. Only consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option at best though, as New York is likely to double-team him most of the day and force someone else to try and beat them.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams lost his starting quarterback Thursday when Matt Hasselbeck was ruled out for Week 9 with a head injury. Williams himself didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday because of a knee problem, but coach Pete Carroll said he should be able to play in the Week 9 game against the Giants. QB Charlie Whitehurst will start instead.
Analysis: Williams had just one catch for 27 yards in a Week 8 loss to Oakland after producing two outstanding games coming off the bye. The Giants have the second-best pass defense in the NFL, but have given up 10 passing touchdowns, so Williams might still be worth a look if he's healthy enough to play. Only consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option at best though, as New York is likely to double-team him most of the day and force someone else to try and beat them.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (bruised knee) did not practice Wednesday but should be OK to play Week 9 against the Giants, coach Pete Carroll said.
Analysis: Williams and the Seahawks had a tough time moving the football against the Raiders in Week 8, which is why Williams had just one catch for 27 yards. This coming after two outstanding games coming off the bye. The Giants have the second-best pass defense in the NFL, but have given up 10 passing touchdowns, so Williams might find some success. Consider him a No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 9.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams found out why Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha is considered one of the NFL's best defenders in the Week 8 loss to Oakland. Williams was held to just one reception on the day for 27 yards after Asomugha harassed him on the line-of-scrimmage. Williams was unable to get off of the Raiders' aggressive jam technique even though he was targeted five times. He briefly left the game with a knee injury but returned, only to drop a potential touchdown in the third quarter.
Analysis: Williams called Asomugha the best corner in the NFL before the game and it showed on Sunday. He was also bracketed on several plays just in case Asomugha was ineffective with his jams, which did not happen too much. Williams will have a chance to get back on track in Week 9 against a tough Giants pass defense that ranked second in the NFL after seven weeks. Williams should be considered a solid No. 3 Fantasy WR in that matchup.
News: A week after setting career highs with 10 catches and 123 yards, Seahawks WR Mike Williams had 11 receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown in Week 7. "This is the way I always thought Mike would play when he got to the league," said coach Pete Carroll, who coached Williams at USC. In Week 8, the Seahawks travel to Oakland to play the Raiders, who sport the NFL's 6th-ranked defense against the pass (allowing 192.3 yards per game). They have allowed only one WR -- Malcom Floyd -- to rack up more that 100 yards against them, although he gashed the Raiders for 213 yards and a TD in Week 5. Williams has never faced his former team.
Analysis: Williams is on the hottest streak of his career, for whatever that's worth. With Deion Branch traded away, he has clearly stepped up and become the No. 1 WR in Seattle, the role the Lions envisioned when they drafted him with the 10th overall pick in the 2005 draft. He won't put up the same kind of numbers he has recently against Oakland easily, especially if they shadow him with All-Pro CB Nnamdi Asomugha. We consider Williams to be a low-end No. 2/ high-end No. 3 Fantasy WR in Week 8.
News: After catching posting a career-high 123 yards receiving yards last week, Seahawks WR Mike Williams had another career game in Week 7 against the Cardinals. The 26-year-old caught 11 passes, a new personal best, for 87 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 22-10 win. He was targeted 16 times by QB Matt Hasselbeck in the game and the two hooked up on a 2-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter. It was Williams' first touchdown catch since 2006 and third of his career.
Analysis: Williams has caught 21 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown in the last two games after posting just 11 catches for 138 yards over the first four weeks of the season. He has become Hasselbeck's top choice in the passing game and his size and skill set makes him a dangerous wideout all over the field. Williams was lined up against Pro Bowl CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in Week 7 but burned him throughout the game. The former first-round pick was out of the NFL for two years prior to signing with Seattle this summer but seems to have found a home playing under his former coach at USC Pete Carroll. He has become a solid Fantasy option in all leagues and should be considered as no worse than a No. 3 option for Week 8 against the Raiders.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams had a career game last week and will face off against a Cardinals defense in Week 7 that has not had much success against the pass this season. Arizona ranks 26th in the league in passing defense and is giving up an average of 19.80 Fantasy points to opposing wideouts through the first five games. Williams has caught 21 passes this year for 261 yards.
Analysis: Williams had a career-high 123 yards receiving last week and is finally becoming the solid wide receiver that Fantasy owners have been waiting for. Among his 21 catches, 15 have been for a first down. Although he has yet to catch a touchdown pass, the 26-year-old has looked like a totally different player since re-uniting with his former USC coach Pete Carroll. He has a solid matchup against the Cardinals in Week 7 but Fantasy owners should not anoint him a top option just yet. Consider Williams a No. 3 Fantasy WR against Arizona on Sunday.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams had the best game of his career in a Week 6 win over Chicago. Williams went off for 10 receptions and 123 yards on 15 targets as Seattle picked up a nice upset road victory. Mike was the guy we were trying to feature," said QB Matt Hasselbeck. "We gave him the sombrero. We said, You got the big job, youre wearing the big hat, were counting on you. And he made it happen."
Analysis: Coming into Sunday, Williams had just two games with more than 65 yards receiving in his career, so that tells you how out of the blue this performance was. Coach Pete Carroll did say earlier in the week that he expects more out of a guy who played under him at USC, and Williams certainly came through for his coach on Sunday as he became the third physical receiver to go over 100 yards against the Bears this season (Hakeem Nicks, Miles Austin). With the departure of Deion Branch, it looks like Williams could see plenty of looks from QB Matt Hasselbeck the rest of this season and will certainly be a hot waiver wire pickup heading into Week 7 when Seattle hosts Arizona.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams will try to put three straight disappointing games behind him in Week 6 when Seattle visits Chicago. Coach Pete Carroll told AOL Fanhouse earlier this week that he expects more out of the former USC guy. "I think there is an expectation of (Williams becoming a No. 1),'' Carroll said. "I think I've seen him that way. He was drafted to be that way. And now that we've seen him after a really long period of time of really being consistent, we should expect Mike to make things happen and control aspects of the game. He's a big dude catching the football. So we'll find out. We have to keep going to him to make sure that happens.''
Analysis: The Bears have been pretty tight against opposing Fantasy WRs this season, allowing just a total of 15 points a game to them, but they did allow Miles Austin and Hakeem Nicks -- two physical guys like Williams -- to go over 100 yards. If QB Matt Hasselbeck can start playing a little better and begin finding Williams on a more consistent basis, things could look up for Williams, but this is not an easy matchup, so continue to bench him in Fantasy play for now.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams shook off a shoulder injury to make four catches for 32 yards in a Week 4 loss at St. Louis. Williams was targeted five times.
Analysis: Williams showed this preseason that he can still be an effective receiver at times in the NFL, but the Seahawks offense is like the Mariners' -- pretty pathetic. Luckily for Fantasy owners Seattle is off in Week 5 so they won't have to worry about stressing out about using Williams next week. Seattle returns to action in Week 6 at Chicago.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (shoulder) was not listed among the inactives for Week 4 at St. Louis. He was listed as probable coming in.
Analysis: Williams was off to a hot start this preseason, but has since cooled off once the games began to count. He has seven catches on the season for 106 yards with zero touchdowns. The Rams have given up more than 100 yards to two WRs in their first three games. Williams should be stashed away in deep Fantasy leagues until he becomes a more prominent option for Seattle.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams practiced in full participation all week despite his shoulder injury. He is listed as probable for Week 4 at St. Louis. Williams was injured in the Week 3 win against the Chargers, but remained in the game.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams (shoulder) is doing well and should practice this week leading up to Week 4 against the Rams, Pete Carroll said. Williams will be kept away from contact for a while. Williams was injured in Week 3 against the Chargers but finished out the game.
Analysis: After being a standout in the preseason and moving into a starting role, Williams has been shut down early in the season and has just seven catches for 106 yards. He is still looking for a breakout game and his opportunity might come in Week 4, if he is healthy. The Rams have already allowed two receivers -- Steve Breaston and Santana Moss -- to break 100 yards against them, as well as giving up 33 catches for 546 yards and three touchdowns to WRs this season. Williams is merely a last-ditch Fantasy start in deeper formats.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams sustained a shoulder injury in Sunday's game with the Chargers, but would return in the second quarter. Matt Hasselbeck would target him on his first series back, but the pass was intercepted. Williams was targeted five times on the day, catching two passes for 35 yards.
Analysis: Williams is trying to bounce back from a disappointing start of his career, which saw him out of the league for two seasons until Seattle signed him this offseason. While he attempts to become relevant again, Fantasy owners shouldn't be too quick to put him in the starting lineup. Fantasy owners should continue to monitor him and see if he comes through with a breakout game for the Seahawks.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams left the game on Sunday with a shoulder injury. His return was questionable for the Seahawks.
Analysis: Williams caught one pass for 13 yards in Week 3 before leaving the game. Williams is trying to bounce back from a disappointing start of his career, which saw him out of the league for two seasons until Seattle signed him this offseason. While he attempts to make him self relevant with the Seahawks, Fantasy owners should monitor him and see if he has a breakout game before inserting him in any Fantasy lineups.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams was limited in practice leading up to Week 2 because of a thigh injury, but he hasn't been slowed in preparation for Week 3 against the Chargers. Williams has practiced in full all week and is ready to face a defense that has shut down receivers in two games. San Diego has allowed opposing WRs to total just 18 catches for 184 yards and one touchdown. Only two receivers have managed more than 40 yards against San Diego, with Mike Sims-Walker leading the way with 10 catches for 105 yards and one touchdown in Week 2.
Analysis: The Chargers' numbers are a bit skewed since they played in sloppy conditions in Week 1 and didn't face a potent passing attack of the Chiefs. Week 2 was a better sample and since Jacksonville's top receiver had a lot of success against the Chargers, then there is hope that Williams might have a breakout game. He has a disappointing five catches for 71 yards and no scores. He has been targeted only nine times in two games, so QB Matt Hasselbeck needs to do a better job of getting Williams the football. Williams is more of a desperation Fantasy start for Week 3.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams didn't make much of an impact in Week 2 versus Denver. After being limited in practice all week with a thigh injury, Williams was targeted just three times on Sunday. He caught one pass for 7 yards.
Analysis: This was definitely a step back for Williams after he had four catches for 64 yards in Week 1. While he continues to adjust to the NFL, Williams will have to prove he can take the hits and deal with the bumps and bruises. Heading into Week 3 with San Diego coming to town, Williams should be viewed as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option. The Chargers contained the Jaguars offense for most of the game, giving up some garbage yards late in the game and will be looking for a repeat performance against the Seahawks.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams was limited in practice all week with a thigh injury, but was active for the Seahawks Week 2 matchup with the Broncos.
Analysis: Williams had four catches for 64 yards in Week 1 against the 49ers. With Williams still adjusting to playing in the NFL, he'll also have to get used to dealing with some minor bumps and bruises through the season. Williams should be viewed as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option against Denver.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams, who was limited early in the week with a thigh injury, participated fully in practice on Friday and should be good to go for Sundays game, coach Pete Carroll said. Williams was listed as probable for Week 2 at Denver. Williams had four catches for 64 yards in Week 1 against the 49ers.
Analysis: The last thing Williams needs to be dealing with is an injury as he is still rebuilding his reputation after being an NFL washout. He is in the best shape of his NFL career and has become a starter in Seattle. Now, he just has to keep the momentum going. The Broncos allowed 165 yards in Week 1, but Jacksonville isn't known as a passing team. Consider Williams a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 2.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams (thigh) did not practice on Thursday, as expected. He was limited in practice on Wednesday. Coach Pete Carroll had said the former first-round pick would be ready to go against the Broncos in Week 2. Williams had four catches for 64 yards in Week 1. "A lot of people didn't give us a chance, much less a chance to have a win," Williams said. "But we've been saying all along, people don't know what we're doing here. People don't know what we put in during the week, how we prepare and how much it means to us. We're going to take this game and move on."
Analysis: Williams has never faced Denver and shocked many people when he returned to the NFL this year. He went from having no team to being a starter for the Seahawks. The Broncos allowed 165 yards in Week 1, but Jacksonville isn't known as a passing team. Williams is still searching for a breakout game. Between his nagging thigh injury and time away from the game, Williams should be viewed as a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option against the Broncos in Week 2.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams has a thigh injury and was limited in practice Wednesday. Williams is expected to be a full participant Thursday and ready to play in Week 2 against the Broncos, coach Pete Carroll said.
Analysis: Williams has been one of the biggest stories of the 2010 season for Seattle. He has gone from NFL reject to starting wide receiver for Seattle. He had four receptions for 64 yards in Week 1 against the 49ers and Carroll has high hopes for Williams in 2010. While Williams is working his way up the Fantasy rankings, he is more of a low-end No. 3 Fantasy WR or flex option for Week 2.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams was Matt Hasselbeck's go-to-guy in Week 1. Williams led the team four receptions for 64 yards and was targeted a team-high six times in the victory. Williams only had one catch in the first half but it was a big one. Hasselbeck hit him on a pump-and-go to the San Francisco 1-yard line which set up Seattle's first score. Williams averaged 16 yards per reception in the 31-6 victory over the 49ers.
Analysis: Williams looked sharp on Sunday using his size and speed to make a few catches. He looks like he is in great shape and already appears to Hasselbeck's new favorite target. While it was nice to see Williams back on the field and producing, he still should be considered just a low-end Fantasy WR until he proves he can produce week after week. Consider him a low-end No. 4 or flex option heading into his Week 2 matchup at Denver.
News: Entitlement is a tricky topic for Seattle's Mike Williams. When he was young and brash, Williams felt a certain sense of it. He was, after all, taken with the 10th overall pick in the 2005 draft by the struggling Detroit Lions, expected to be the big play threat the Lions offense lacked after two standout seasons at Southern California. And now that he's 26, spent the past two seasons out of the NFL and has his college coach to thank for a chance to resurrect his career, Williams is fighting another perception of entitlement -- that the association with Pete Carroll is the only reason he's back in football. "A lot of people think this is because of my relationship with coach Carroll that the position was given to me, that was his old coach so of course it was going to work out this way," Williams said on Wednesday. "I just think the only thing I can take from it is how I've controlled my emotions, how I've handled the situation. Every day is a new day. Every day is an audition all over for me."
Analysis: Williams' attempt at putting to rest his first three lackluster NFL seasons begins Sunday. He'll start for Seattle when the Seahawks open the season at home against San Francisco. It'll be the first time in Williams' career he's an opening day starter -- and he understands the significance. It's validation of the work he put in to get back into football after ballooning to 270 pounds. It's affirmation of the chance Carroll and Seattle general manager John Schneider took in the spring to give Williams another opportunity. What Williams brings is speed, size and youth. At 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, Williams is instantly one of the largest receivers in the NFL, but with the speed to shed defenders and turn short passes into touchdowns. He did just that in Seattle's preseason opener against Tennessee, taking a short hitch and turning it into a 51-yard touchdown. He now sets his sights on a passing defense that allowed 229.4 yards per game in 2009, but only 14 passing touchdowns in 16 games. Think of Williams as more of a high-end No. 4 or flex option for Week 1. He has to prove himself in a regular-season game before he moves up the Fantasy rankings.
News: ESPN.com reports the Seahawks are ready to cut ties with WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh by either trading or releasing him, clearing the way to promote WR Mike Williams into the starting lineup. Williams totaled 10 catches for 177 yards and one touchdown in the preseason.
Analysis: The former first-round pick Williams has been the story of training camp. He has gone from NFL bust to potential breakout star in 2010. Let's not forget the kid is only 26 years old. His former college coach, Pete Carroll, gave him a new life in the NFL this offseason and Williams hasn't disappointed. He has gotten into shape and developed a great work ethic. It is showing up on the field and he might finally be able to deliver on that potential he flashed during his days at USC. We're still a bit skeptical that he actually ends up starting all season long in Seattle, but for now if you'd like to spend a late-round flier on him, we wouldn't fight you on it.
News: Seattle WR Mike Williams continues to play well this preseason. Williams had three catches for 54 yards in Saturday's preseason game at Minnesota, including a 42-yard grab. Williams appears ready to start for Seattle this season opposite T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
Analysis: Williams has played well since being reunited with his former college coach in Pete Carroll, and he might be ready to live up to the talent many thought he had coming out of college. We consider Williams a low-end No. 4 Fantasy WR, but he could be worth a late-round flier in deep leagues on Draft Day based on how he's played in the preseason.
News: In the Seahawks' preseason win vs. the Titans, WR Mike Williams continued his comeback when he caught a short pass from QB Charlie Whitehurst, avoided a tackle, and ran untouched for a 51-yard touchdown. It was Williams' only catch of the game. His last NFL score was on Aug. 11, 2007, for the Raiders in a preseason opener against the Cardinals. Williams has only two scoring catches in the regular season in his once-soaring career.
Analysis: Williams looks to be in good physical shape and finally might be ready to put his talents to good use after bombing out in his first go-round with the NFL. However it seems likely that he'll end up being a role player for the Seahawks and not a starter who will warrant Fantasy use. Don't draft him; instead look for him off waivers during the season if his success continues into that point of the year.
News: Seahawks WR Mike Williams got off to a fast start in training camp, but his play recently has soured and has left a bad impression with offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates. "Mike has had a good camp," Bates said. "But he can't be missing practice. You've got to be out here on the practice field to get better. He's just got to find a way. He missed two days (earlier this week). He came back today and had a strong day, but for all the guys, we still have a month so we're not naming any starters or who's made the team. You've got to keep grinding. He's done a great job, but he has to understand this is a process and he's still competing. He's got to compete."
Analysis: We can only imagine the type of player Williams might have developed into had he stayed the right amount of time at USC and not tried to leave school before he was draft eligible. His old college coach -- Pete Carroll -- is trying to revive Williams' career, but we don't know if it is possible. Don't get this Mike Williams confused with Tampa Bay's receiver of the same name. The Seahawks' Williams is not worth drafting in Fantasy.
News: Seahawks GM John Schneider told KJR-AM that WR Mike Williams continues to impress in minicamps and OTA practices. Schneider pointed out that Williams has stayed in great shape and provides a big body for his quarterbacks to throw at.
Analysis: This would be one of the biggest riches-to-rags-to-riches stories in NFL history if Williams can finally tap into some of the potential he had when he left USC in the first place. He's in the right spot -- the coach he had at USC, Pete Carroll, is his coach in Seattle. Williams still isn't worth drafting, but with no receiver in the Seahawks' corps any better than a middle- to low-end No. 3 Fantasy option, there's room for Williams to land playing time.
News: The Sports Xchange reports Seahawks coach Pete Carroll likes what he sees from WR Mike Williams, the former USC product who is trying to make a comeback to the NFL. With T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Deion Branch and Ben Obomanu out, Williams was running with the first unit in minicamp. "To see Mike come out here and be effective again in the second camp, that's a really good sign for him," Carroll said. "He's definitely in a place where he's really competitive. Physically, it's the best I've seen him since maybe his sophomore year of college. So he's very serious about it, so maybe he has a chance to give us some help."
Analysis: Williams is a long-shot to make the final roster in Seattle, but it's a good thing he's playing for Carroll, who knows him a long time. If Williams does end up with the Seahawks he would likely be the No. 4 or 5 receiver behind Houshmandzadeh, Branch, Deon Butler and Golden Tate. Ignore Williams in all leagues on Draft Day.
News:Mike Williams, who has been out of the NFL for two years, has impressed Pete Carroll, his former college coach, over his first couple of minicamp practices. But Carroll doesn't sugar coat his assessment of Williams' NFL career. "He's had a poor career," Carroll said. "I don't think he's done anything so far. And Mike's really cognizant of that."
Analysis: Williams is attempting to latch on to the Seahawks' roster. It would be a minor upset if he landed a spot and a major upset if he had the chance to post decent stats on a regular basis. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters for now.
News: The Nashville City Paper reports that the Titans have waived WR Mike Williams. He had fallen to fourth on the Titans' depth chart.
Analysis: Now tossed aside by the Lions, Raiders and Titans, Williams might be at the end of his NFL career. Even though he's a big-bodied receiver with decent hands as a red-zone target, we don't expect Williams to be considered a decent stat producer anytime soon. Keep him off of Fantasy rosters.
News: Titans head coach Jeff Fisher warned WR Mike Williams in January that when the receiver returned for offseason workouts the numbers on the scale would say a lot about what the 10th pick overall in the 2005 draft wanted for his professional future. After all, it was Williams who found himself with his third NFL team in four seasons. Williams responded, losing more than 30 pounds and arriving bright and early that first day eager to show off his hard work. Williams said he was over 260 "easy" last year. Williams has a new offensive coordinator to impress in Mike Heimerdinger, who sees a receiver who has good hands and runs good routes. Heimerdinger hasn't seen any signs of Williams being late to meetings, something that cost the receiver fines in Detroit. But the coordinator also thinks Williams needs to stay with the team's strength coach, Steve Watterson, all summer so he can run more than two routes in a row. "If he does that, then his weight will be down. If he stays with Steve all the time. It can't be a hit-and-miss thing, take a couple days off, then come back and do it. There has to be a consistent thing to it because he's very talented," Heimerdinger said.
Analysis: We were enamored with Williams as a go-to red-zone target when he came out of college in 2004 but never once produced at the NFL level. The Titans are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with Williams this season. He's not draftable at this point, but if he has a nice preseason, he'll be snared with late-round picks in drafts this summer. Just remember to keep your expectations with Williams in check.
News: Titans TE Casey Cramer (coach's decision), LB Gilbert Gardner (calf), DB Nick Harper (coach's decision), WR Paul Williams (coach's decision), WR Mike Williams (coach's decision), DL Sean Conover (coach's decision) and DL Bryce Fisher (coach's decision) were all named inactive for Tennessee's Week 16 game vs. the Jets.
Analysis: Harper is a slight mystery as he wasn't listed on the injury list earlier this week. He has minimal Fantasy value as a backup DB in IDP formats, while none of these other players have any value at this time.
News: The Titans listed the following players as inactive for Week 15 at Kansas City: WR Paul William (coach's decision), WR Mike Williams (coach's decision), DB Kelly Herndon (coach's decision), TE Casey Cramer (coach's decision), LB Gilbert Gardner (calf), DL Sean Conover (coach's decision), DL Bryce Fisher (coach's decision).
Analysis: None of the players on this list are currently in a position to help you in Fantasy play. Leave them on the waiver wire until further notice.
News: Notable Titans players who were active and dressed but didn't record an offensive statistic in Week 14 vs. San Diego include: FB Ahmard Hall, WR Mike Williams, WR Biren Ealy and TE Ben Troupe.
Analysis: None of these players should be on Fantasy Football rosters. The Titans play at Kansas City in Week 15.
News: Williams WR Mike Williams did not have any stats in Week 13 vs. Houston.
Analysis: Williams is not in a position where he can help Fantasy owners. Leave him on the waiver wire.
News: The Titans added WR Mike Williams to the roster and he joined them in time for practice Thursday. This is the third NFL team for Williams, the 10th pick in the 2005 draft by Detroit. The Lions traded Williams to Oakland earlier this season, but the Raiders released him Oct. 30, two days after Williams dropped a late third-down pass in a loss to Tennessee. The Titans are familiar with Williams because of offensive coordinator Norm Chow, who coached him at Southern California. The Titans have needed help at receiver all season. They lost out to New England in a free agency chase for Donte' Stallworth, and they had at least four dropped passes in Monday night's 34-20 loss to Denver.
Analysis: Keep an eye on how Williams does, but it's unlikely he will be able to help your Fantasy team. He's been a huge disappointment since coming out of college.
News: The Raiders waived struggling wide receiver Mike Williams on Tuesday, becoming the second team in six months to cut ties with the 10th pick of the 2005 draft. The Raiders hoped that reuniting Williams with his former college assistant at Southern California, Oakland coach Lane Kiffin, would revitalize his career. Instead, Williams injured his hamstring at the end of his first minicamp practice and missed the rest of the offseason workouts. He was healthy at the start of training camp but was unable to show the ability that made him so coveted when he entered the draft.
Analysis: Williams, who played in six of Oakland's seven games, had seven catches for 90 yards this season. Until he signs elsewhere and proves that he can be a regular part of an offense, he should not be owned in Fantasy play.
News: Another week, another lackluster performance for WR Mike Williams. The Raider caught two passes for 20 yards in Week 8 at Tennessee. He dropped a fourth-down pass that would have kept a game-saving drive alive for Oakland.
Analysis: Williams has been a bust for practically his entire NFL career. No one is starting him in CBSSports.com Fantasy leagues, and for good reason. Keep it that way when he and the Raiders host the Texans in Week 9.
News: Raiders QB Andrew Walter, WR Mike Williams, RB Oren O'Neal, TE John Madsen and TE Tony Stewart did not record any offensive stats in Week 7 vs. Kansas City.
Analysis: None of these players are in a situation to help your Fantasy team. Leave them on the waiver wire until further notice.
News: Mike Williams managed just three receptions for 35 yards in Week 6 at San Diego, while Johnnie Lee Higgins was good for two grabs and 15 yards in the loss.
Analysis: For the bust Williams, who will likely always have that label, 35 yards is pretty good. Neither he nor Higgins are worth using in any Fantasy leagues for Week 7 against the Chiefs.
News: Raiders WR Mike Williams had no catches Sunday against Miami.
Analysis: Williams had a touchdown called back when he was penalized for offensive pass interference. He has no Fantasy value and should not be used in Week 6 against San Diego following Oakland's bye week.
News: Mike Williams had just one reception for 24 yards in Week 3 against the Browns.
Analysis: Williams is still only worth a look as a reserve in the deepest of Fantasy leagues heaidng into Week 4 at Miami.
News: The Oakland Raiders announced CB John Bowie, RB Adimchinobe Echemandu, LB Isaiah Ekejiuba (foot), CB Duane Starks (groin) and WR Mike Williams are among the inactives for Week 2 at Denver. QB Andrew Walter is also the third quarterback for the Raiders.
Analysis: Williams, the bust for the Detroit Lions, is not worth using in any Fantasy leagues. The Raiders host the Browns in Week 3.
News: Raiders WR Mike Williams caught one pass for 21 yards during a Week 1 loss to the Lions.
Analysis: Williams is hoping to rejevunate his career with a familiar face -- Lane Kiffin -- in Oakland. Kiffin was Williams' position coach in college at USC. Williams has a long way to go before becoming a viable Fantasy option. The Raiders play against the Broncos in Week 2.
News: Raiders WR Mike Williams was not among their mountain of cuts, ensuring him a place on the team roster (unless they cut him before the season). Acquired via trade from Detroit, Williams had a decent preseason (104 yards on 8 catches with a TD) but is familiar with the offense installed in Oakland by new coach Lane Kiffin.
Analysis: Williams has a bit of upside in that he knows what he's doing on the field and could develop into a great red-zone target for the Raiders. Remember, Williams is a big guy (6-foot-4) with a wide frame and a great vertical. He's just not blazing fast, and has been lazy and sloppy in the past. He's worth stashing on your bench if you have the room to spare.
News: The way last season went for the Oakland Raiders, they'll take any sort of a win -- even an exhibition one over the Arizona Cardinals. Andrew Walter threw a touchdown pass to Mike Williams and Hiram Eugene scored on a 36-yard interception return to lead Oakland to a 27-23 victory Saturday night in coach Lane Kiffin's first game with the Raiders. Williams finished the game with two catches and 17 yards.
Analysis: Williams made few sparkling plays in his two seasons with the Lions, when he clashed with coaches, was late to meetings and did not meet weight targets set by the team. He had 29 catches for 350 yards and one touchdown as a rookie, before playing sparingly last season under new offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Williams had just eight catches for 99 yards and one touchdown in 2006 and even fell behind Josh McCown -- a quarterback -- on the depth chart at receiver at one point. Kiffin, who was Williams' position coach in college at Southern California, said the receiver still has work to do to get into shape. Continue to monitor Williams progress with the Raiders, but right now, is not worth a flier in most Fantasy leagues. He is at best a low-end reserve.
News: Twice in a span of three plays, Mike Williams worked his way free from star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha near the goal line and caught a pass from Josh McCown for a touchdown. Earlier, Williams made a juggling catch in the end zone for another score. It may only be training camp, but Williams is showing signs of why he was so heralded when he came out of college two years ago. But after the struggles Williams endured his first two seasons in the NFL when he was in Detroit, he's not about to put too much stock into his performance at a hotel field in California's wine country. "It's practice man," Williams said Friday at the Oakland Raiders' training camp facility. "I don't really look too much into it. That's all it is is practice. We were just fortunate enough the ball came out at the right time and I was able to make a play."
Williams had just eight catches for 99 yards and one touchdown in 2006 and even fell behind McCown -- a quarterback -- on the depth chart at receiver at one point. The Lions finally parted ways with Williams in April, sending him and McCown to the Raiders for a fourth-round draft choice. He then injured his hamstring in his first minicamp practice with the Raiders in May, and missed the rest of the offseason workouts. Coach Lane Kiffin, who was Williams' position coach in college at Southern California, said the receiver still has work to do to get into shape. Continue to monitor Williams progress with the Raiders, but right now, is not worth a flier in most Fantasy leagues. He is at best a low-end reserve.
News: Mike Williams heard all the disparaging comments about his work ethic, his weight and his ability as he wallowed on the bench with the Detroit Lions. Williams takes some blame for being late to meetings and clashing with coaches. But whatever the other reasons for his failure in Detroit (he was labeled as out of shape), he knows that the draft-day trade to Oakland gives him what could be a final chance to prove himself as an NFL receiver. The deal reunites Williams with Raiders coach Lane Kiffin, who persuaded Williams to leave Florida to attend Southern California and then coached him for two years with the Trojans. "This is Mike's chance," Kiffin said. "However you want to phrase it, he's blown a chance. I think that he would tell you the same thing. Whether he feels it was his fault or not, it was an opportunity that didn't work out the way it could. There are a lot of doubters."
Analysis: Williams should evolve into being a red-zone option in the Oakland offense. They may even use him as a slot receiver in some formations to get a matchup on a smaller defensive back. If there is anyone who might be able to get the most of the 6-4, 229-pound receiver, it will be Kiffin. Track Williams' offseason conditioning with the Raiders before taking a flier on him in the late rounds.
News: In a Draft Day trade, the Oakland Raiders acquired WR Mike Williams and QB Josh McCown from the Detroit Lions in exchange for the Raiders fourth-round pick (No. 105). Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin used to coach Williams while at USC.
Analysis: Williams has been a huge disappointment in two seasons. He has just 37 receptions for 449 yards and two touchdowns. He has only started six games in his pro career. The move to Oakland will be an interesting one as Kiffin and Williams reunite. If there is anyone who might be able to get the most of the 6-4, 229-pound receiver, it will be Kiffin. Track Williams' offseason conditioning with the Raiders before taking a flier on him in drafts.
News: In a trade with the Lions, the Raiders acquired QB Josh McCown and WR Mike Williams for a fourth-round pick this season. McCown will compete with rookie JaMarcus Russell for the starting QB job this summer, while Williams will compete for a spot along the WR depth chart (a crowded one in Oakland).
Analysis: If he starts, McCown is worth a look as a low-end No. 2 QB since it's expected that the Raiders will be behind a lot and will have to throw. Williams' outlook is a smidge rosier in that he will be reunited with ex-USC assistant Lane Kiffin, who may have a better idea on how to use Williams. With the Raiders already boasting Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry, Williams could be a situational type of WR who could haul in touchdowns. Ultimately, neither player is worth more than a late-round pick.
News: According to the Detroit News, the Lions did not have WR Mike Williams present Tuesday for the start of a three-day voluntary mini-camp. Williams, a first-round pick in 2005, has failed to live up to his status and has been fined (overweight) heavily for two years. There are increasing signs he does not figure prominently in the team's plans -- and that he does not want to remain in Detroit.
Analysis: Williams has been a huge disappointment thus far, and he has minimal Fantasy value at this time.
News: Lions second-year WR Mike Williams had a difficult 2006, often being listed as inactive and not getting much of a chance to play. Williams, a former first-round pick of the Lions, fell out of favor with coach Rod Marinelli and was not used often on offense. He finished 2006 with eight catches for 99 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Despite the turmoil, Williams is expected to return to Detroit in 2007 and compete for a roster spot and possibly a starting job. Work ethic seems to be the key issue between Williams and Marinelli. He is at best a late-round flier in the deepest of Fantasy Football leagues next season.
News: Lions second-year WR Mike Williams had two catches for 28 yards with a touchdown at Dallas in Week 17.
Analysis: Williams claims he'll be back with the Lions next season, but that remains to be seen. He is at best a final-round pick in leagues next season.
News: Lions WR Mike Williams had two catches for 22 yards in a Week 16 loss to the Bears.
Analysis: Williams is not a recommended Fantasy option for Week 17 at Dallas. It will be intriguing to see what the Lions do with Williams in the offseason and it is something to keep an eye on. He could be a Fantasy sleeper for the 2007 season, but it is likely you won't have to worry about Williams next season.
News: Lions WR Mike Williams caught three passes for 42 yards in Week 15 at Green Bay.
Analysis: Williams has been an afterthought mostly for the Lions this season, but he has come on of late as Roy Williams has slumped. Consider him only out of desperation, though, for Week 16 vs. Chicago.
News: Notable Lions players who were active but didn't record an offensive stat in Week 14 include: Backup QB Josh McCown, WR Eddie Drummond, WR Mike Williams, FB Cory Schlesinger, TE Marcus Pollard and TE Casey FitzSimmons.
Analysis: None of these players should be used in Fantasy play.
News: Lions TE Marcus Pollard, FB Corey Schlesinger, TE Casey Fitzsimmons and WR Mike Williams did not record any offensive stats in Week 13 at New England.
Analysis: None of these players should be used in Fantasy play until further notice.
News: Detroit WR Mike Williams had his first extensive playing time of the season in the 27-10 loss to Miami on Thanksgiving Day. He caught one pass and dropped another, but his overall performance then and in recent practices has been good enough to warrant more playing time.
Analysis: Williams has no Fantasy value at this time, but if he starts to live up to expectations, he may be worth adding in the future.
News: Detroit WR Mike Williams, the 10th overall pick in 2005, made his first catch of the year and was given a standing ovation. It was his only catch of the game for 7 yards.
Analysis: Williams still has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: Booth Newspapers, a chain of papers in Michigan, report that Lions WRs Eddie Drummond (concussion) and Devale Ellis (shoulder) are not expected to play vs. Miami in Week 12, paving the way for Mike Williams to play on Thanksgiving.
Analysis: None of these receivers should be used in Fantasy Football leagues. Williams could be added as a flier in keeper leagues but he has been horrible in limited play this season.
News: Notable Lions inactives for Week 11 at Arizona include: QB Dan Orlovsky, DB Stanley Wilson, RB Sean McHugh, DL Cleveland Pinkney, WR Matt Williams and LB Anthony Cannon.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 11.
News: Notable ianctives for Week 10 include: 49ers QB Shaun Hill (No. 3 QB), CB Donald Strickland, FB Chris Hetherington, TE Vernon Davis, WR Taylor Jacobs and DT Damane Duckett. For the Lions, QB Dan Orlovsky (No. 3 QB), CB Jamar Fletcher, TE Sean McHugh, DT Shaun Cody, WR Mike Williams and LB Anthony Cannon are inactive.
Analysis: Bench all inactive players in Week 10.
News: The Lions inactives for Sunday's game against Atlanta are QB Dan Orlovsky, DB Jamar Fletcher, RB Cory Schlesinger, DL Shaun Cody, WR Mike Williams and DL James Hall.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value at this time. Keep them reserved.
News: Notable Lions inactive for Week 6 include QB Dan Orlovsky (3rd QB), S Kenoy Kennedy, LB Alex Lewis, DT Shaun Cody, TE Casey FitzSimmons and WR Mike Williams.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Fantasy purposes in Week 6.
News: Lions wide receiver Mike Williams thought he might finally get a chance to show what he could do in the offense under game conditions Sunday at Minnesota but one mistake apparently is more than offensive coordinator Mike Martz is willing to tolerate from the 2005 first-round draft pick. Williams, who was inactive for two of the Lions' five games, got his first throw on a third-and-19 situation in the third quarter. The ball was slightly low but catchable, but he bobbled it momentarily and dropped it. Even with the receiving corps shorthanded after the loss of Roy Williams on the third play of the game, Mike Williams never got back on the field the rest of the game. "It is what it is," he said. "That's kind of how this year has been for me, so you just roll with it. You try to come in and try to work hard, because there's always a reason. There's always a reason that's found for this, that and the other thing."
Analysis: It looks like Williams and the Lions just won't ever be on the same page, which is too bad since Williams does have potential to be a fine NFL contributor, but as long as it's perceived he doesn't have the work ethic, he won't get the chance. Keep him on staff only in the deepest of keeper leagues.
News: According to the Detroit News, Lions WR Roy Williams has been lobbying hard to get WR Mike Williams more playing time. While Mike is happy Roy is stepping up to the plate for him, he knows Roy talking won't get him more time on the field. "(Roy) is not the personnel director," Williams said. "He is not the general manager or coach. I appreciate what he is doing, but there isn't anything Roy can do about it." Lions head coach Rod Marinelli would not comment on the status of Williams' playing time, but said he is working hard in practice. "He's doing a good job right now, and he's getting better and better," Marinelli said. "His practice speed is good, and he's really been precise right now. It's exciting."
Analysis: Could we finally see the Mike Williams the Lions were hoping to get when they drafted him in the first round in 2005? Maybe. With the way QB Jon Kitna has been playing, if Williams were to get a valuable amount of playing time, then Williams would certainly be Fantasy worthy. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We still could be a long way away from that happening.
News: Lions WR 18 Eddie Drummond, WR Shaun Bodiford, FB Cory Schlesinger, TE 82 Casey Fitzsimmons, RB 29 Brian Calhoun, WR 88 Mike Williams and backup QB 12 Josh McCown did not record any offensive statistics in Week 4 at St. Louis.
Analysis: If they didn't get into the action in this 41-34 contest, they probably aren't going to do much this season. Ignore them in all leagues at this time.
News: WR Mike Williams, the Lions' first-round pick in 2005, is one of the young players who presumably get a chance at increased playing time after the release of nine-year veteran Corey Bradford. Williams has been active for just one game and has no catches but coaches have indicated he has made progress on the practice field in recent days.
Analysis: It is a little premature to go out and grab Williams off the wire, but it looks as though he could be turning the corner. Watch to see if Williams is really going to get more involved with the Lions passing attack before adding him to your roster.
News: Lions WR Corey Bradford, WR Eddie Drummond, TE Marcus Pollard, TE Casey Fitzsimmons and WR Mike Williams failed to record any offensive statistics in Week 3.
Analysis: Keep these players reserved for Week 4 at St. Louis since they currently have no Fantasy value.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports that Lions WR Mike Williams isn't being activated because "There's certain standards we want, and we're going to keep pushing it," said coach Rod Marinelli. The coach added that despite Williams' comments, the coaches have explained to Williams why he isn't playing and is being passed over for veterans like Az-Zahir Hakim, who has been with the team for less than a week. "There's no lesson here," Marinelli said. "There's no lessons. This is what we want. There's a certain standard we want in how we're doing business."
Analysis: Williams should only be owned in deep-rostered Fantasy leagues since it looks like he's not going to play anytime soon.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports that Lions WR Mike Williams is tired of being made inactive and wants to play. The Lions' coaches aren't giving Williams a reason why they're making him inactive. "I've given up on trying to figure out what it is, or what it has been or what it's going to be," Williams said. "The only thing I look at is coming to practice and putting the maximum effort I can put into it. Y'all go ask the powers that be. I don't know what to say."
Analysis: The Lions activated Az Hakim over Williams, and he's been with the team three days. Williams should only be owned in deep-rostered Fantasy leagues since it looks like he's not going to play anytime soon.
News: Notable Lions inactives for Week 2 include: QB Dan Orlovsky (emergency QB), WR Shaun Bodiford, CB Stanley Wilson, OG Ross Verba, TE Casey FitzSimmons, WR Mike Williams and LB Anthony Cannon.
Analysis: None of these players are useful for Fantasy Football at this time.
News: The following Lions are notable inactives for Week 1 at Seattle: QB Dan Orlovsky (emergency QB), WR Shaun Bodiford, CB Stanley Wilson, TE Casey FitzSimmons and WR Mike Williams.
Analysis: None of these players should start in Week 1. Williams' owners may want to consider cutting their losses with the former first-round pick.
News: Lions WR Mike Williams is listed as a reserve on the team's depth chart after a preseason that saw him catch two 24-yard passes.
Analysis: Williams could develop into a red-zone threat, but that potential is not strong. He should not be starting in any Fantasy leagues and really might be taking up a roster spot that could be better suited for a receiver with more potential.
News: WR Charles Rogers has been cut Saturday by the Lions. The other disappointing WR No. 1 pick, Mike Williams, made it through the Lions' final cut down.
Analysis: Williams is still in the doghouse, but he has a chance to develop into a Fantasy sleeper as the No. 3 receiver for the Lions. Consider him a WR flier to take in the deepest of leagues at this point.
News: Lions head coach Rod Marinelli plans on working WRs Mike Williams and Charles Rogers in the team's final preseason game. Asked if their expensive contracts will be a factor on whether or not they make the team, Marinelli was non-committal. "Some of it maybe. Some of it not -- we'll see by Saturday -- that's the best I can tell you," he said. "I can't make a prediction. On Saturday we'll all know how this works out."
Analysis: Doesn't sound promising. Williams has exactly two 24-yard catches this preseason, and as of now it would appear that it would not be enough to prove he belongs on the team, although his salary may dictate otherwise. The bottom line is that Williams is undraftable until he can regain a prominent role in the Lions' (or someone else's) offense.
News: WR Mike Williams, Detroit's No. 1 pick in 2005, did not play in Friday's preseason game at Oakland.
Analysis: Williams had been held out of drills earlier in the week and he has been demoted to third string. He will have to work his way back up the depth chart and is worth no more than a late-round flier pick in drafts.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports that Lions WRs Charles Rogers and Mike Williams -- both former first-round picks -- are listed as third stringers on the team's latest depth chart. Roy Williams and Corey Bradford are listed as starters, Glenn Martinez and Mike Furrey (who played safety last season in St. Louis) are second string. "That's how we're going to start the game," head coach Rod Marinelli said. "We're just making guys earn it and earn it. Guys are moving up, moving down. Good practice, a guy moves up."
Analysis: The paper also notes that both Rogers and Williams have either been held out of drills or working on fundamentals recently. Fantasy owners who have eyed either receiver because of the wily Mike Martz running the offense in Detroit have to take a step back. Both are still worth late-round fliers in leagues, but expecting anything more than 700 yards and four TDs from either player would be a mistake until they play to the point where coach Marinelli gets them up with the starting unit.
News: MLive.com reports Corey Bradford, not Mike Williams, has practiced with the first-team offense in Lions minicamp and is slated to start with Roy Williams next season.
Analysis: Williams has character issues, but he's still the favorite to open the regular season third on the depth chart. Should the team move Charles Rogers, Williams' stock would increase in drafts.
News: CBS SportsLine.com's Clark Judge reports Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz was impressed with Mike Williams' quickness. "He surprised me," Martz said. "He has way more ability than I thought he did. He has very quick feet."
Analysis: Williams has character issues, but he's still the favorite to open the regular season third on the depth chart. Should the team move Charles Rogers, Williams' stock would increase in drafts.
News: According to published reports, WRs Charles Rogers and Mike Williams are not working out in Rod Marinelli's new, much-aligned system, nor are they showing any signs of improvement or desire to improve.
Analysis: It's hard to imagine Mike Williams would be cut or traded after just one season with the club, but his lackadasical attitude may prevent him from becoming a quality Fantasy option (and a quality NFL contributor). He's pretty much a late-round option in most leagues although he has potential to be a great red-zone threat.
News: Mlive.com reports sources say Lions wide receiver Mike Williams has not impressed the new coaching staff. Williams, who is overweight and out of shape, attended the first four team workouts and then took 10 days off before returning on Monday.
Analysis: Despite all of his talent, Williams has been an enormous disappointment for the franchise. Should his problems and poor attitude continue, he might have to fight for a roster spot next season.
News: Mike Williams caught 29 passes for 350 yards and one TD in 14 games (four starts) this season in Detroit.
Analysis: Williams has a ton of talent but still needs to mature on and off the field. Look for him to be selected in the middle to late rounds in 2006 drafts.

Analysis: Williams has caught only one ball in four consecutive games making him an unfavorable starter in Week 17 at Pittsburgh.

Analysis: Williams has struggled in his first year at the NFL level and consequently should not be on any Fantasy rosters heading into Week 15.
News: Mike Williams caught one pass for six yards in Week 13 vs. Minnesota.
Analysis: Mike Williams is obviously not ready to contribute at the NFL level. He should not be on any Fantasy rosters at this point.
News: The Detroit News reports Scottie Vines still appears to be ahead of Mike Williams and Charles Rogers on the Lions' depth chart. In fact, Williams or Rogers might be inactive for Week 13.
Analysis: Williams has shown little as a rookie, and reports that he's still a bit immature won't increase his time on the field.
News: Lions rookie WR Mike Williams caught six passes for 84 yards vs. Atlanta in Week 12. He led the Lions in receiving.
Analysis: Williams got a lot of his yards in garbage time and dropped a few passes when the game was in hand. He is not a useful Fantasy option for now.
News: The Free Press reports Mike Williams is no lock to be active for Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Analysis: Williams appears to be in head coach Steve Mariucci's doghouse and is no better than a reserve in most leagues.

Analysis: Owners should continue to shelve the rookie from USC.

Analysis: Williams is not a recommended option against Arizona in most leagues.

Analysis: Williams is not a recommended option against an underrated Cardinals pass defense.
News: Mike Williams caught four passes for 43 yards in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Analysis: Williams' value for Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals depends on whether Roy Williams (quadriceps) and/or Charles Rogers (suspension) start.
News: Roy Williams (quad) and Mike Williams (knee) both remain questionable on the Lions' injury report. Mike practiced Thursday and Friday after missing Wednesday, while Roy sat out Friday's practice after working out Wednesday and Thursday.
Analysis: It's a mess for the Lions right now. The only safe option is Charles Rogers, who is coming off a four-game substance-abuse suspension. Consider the Williams boys risky starts at this point. Even if they play, their productivity is likely to be as limited as it has been all season anyway.
News: Mike Williams was listed as questionable on NFL's official injury report Wednesday.
Analysis: Williams was unable to practice Wednesday. Don't forget that both Roy Williams and Charles Rogers are expected back at Minnesota Sunday also, so Williams' Fantasy value was dipping already.
News: Mike Williams will start for the Detroit Lions in Week 8. Roy Williams (quadriceps) and Charles Rogers (suspension) are out.
Analysis: He is not a recommended option vs. the Bears defense.
News: Williams had five receptions for 95 yards in Week 7 at Cleveland, as he was the go-to receiver for Jeff Garcia with the Lions shorthanded at receiver due to injury or suspension.
Analysis: Williams had a few big plays and this might just be a sign of things to come. The Lions will host the Bears in Week 8.
News: Lions WR Mike Williams will start in Week 7 at Cleveland. He will play in place of Roy Williams, who is hurt.
Analysis: Williams should still probably be benched in leagues unless you're depleted at wide receiver.
News: Mike Williams caught two passes for 27 yards with one fumble lost in Sunday's 21-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Analysis: Williams is not a recommended starter in most leagues.
News: WR Roy Williams (quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Week 6 against Carolina.
Analysis: Williams was unable to practice Wednesday. Kevin Johnson or Mike Williams would likely get the nod in his place and they are both worth picking up for a possible Fantasy start as No. 3 WRs.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports that head coach Steve Mariucci said he was unsure if Williams (strained left quadriceps) will be able to play in Week 6 against Carolina. Mike Williams was in and out of Sunday's game against Baltimore with lower back spasms and a hamstring injury.
Analysis: The entire WR crew seems to be dinged up. Scottie Vines has a bad ankle also. They are still waiting for Charles Rogers to return from a suspension in three weeks, so they could start Kevin Johnson alongside Mike Williams in Week 6 against Carolina if Roy Williams can't go.
News: Rookie Mike Williams and Kevin Johnson will fill in for Charles Rogers (suspended) in two-receiver sets and will play alongside Roy Williams when the Lions use three receivers."It's unfortunate how having more playing time is coming about, but I need to make plays," Mike Williams said. "It's definitely an opportunity. There's no better way to rectify this situation than to have our group come out and make plays. When you have adverse times, you have to show toughness, and this is one of those times."
Analysis: Roy Williams, Mike Williams and Johnson, in that order, are the Lions receivers to have right now in Fantasy leagues. Mike Williams could become a viable start in leagues with 12-plus teams, but Week 5 vs. Baltimore is a very unfavorable matchup.
News: Detroit wide receiver Charles Rogers was suspended Wednesday for four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the latest setback to an injury-plagued career. "I will make no excuses for what I did, and I accept full responsibility for my actions," Rogers said in a statement released by the Lions. "I let down a lot of people, mainly myself."
Analysis: Roy Williams, Mike Williams and Kevin Johnson, in that order, are the Lions receivers to have right now in Fantasy leagues. Mike Williams could become a viable start in leagues with 12-plus teams, but Week 5 vs. Baltimore is a very unfavorable matchup.

News: Williams caught three passes for 22 yards at Tampa Bay Sunday.
Analysis: The Lions host Baltimore in Week 5. Williams had only one catch going into Sunday's matchup. Don't start him just yet in Fantasy play -- especially against another strong defense in the Ravens.
News: The Detroit News reports Charles Rogers has lost snaps to rookie Mike Williams. Kevin Johnson has also see his share of time on the field.
Analysis: At this point in time, Roy Williams is the lone Lions' wide receiver that owners should consider a regular starter.
News: Williams was held to only one reception for three yards in Week 1 against the Packers, but it was good for a touchdown.
Analysis: Williams should see more touches on offense in Week 2 at Chicago. He is a decent No. 3 or 4 Fantasy receiver in most leagues of 10 or more teams.

Analysis: Williams will be worth a middle- to late-round selection in drafts, with slightly higher value in keeper leagues.

Analysis: Williams will be worth a middle- to late-round selection in drafts.
News: The Detroit Free Press reports Mike Williams had his first official practice as a pro on Wednesday. He went through an hour and a half catch-up session with receivers coach Fred Graves in addition to the regular practice. "It's kind of weird at first when you put (pads) on and you're hitting people and people are hitting you, but then it's kind of like riding a bike, so you don't really worry about it that much," Williams said.
Analysis: This was the first time Williams had been in full pads since helping USC to a Rose Bowl Victory over Michigan on January 1, 2004. He will be worth a middle- to late-round selection in drafts.
News: Detroit has signed receiver Mike Williams to a five-year contract. Williams will compete for a starting job, but likely be an oft-used reserve.
Analysis: Williams has value in dynasty leagues, but not as much in seasonal leagues. Use a late-round pick on him in both.
