49ers defense mostly healthy for Week 4

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/26/2013) The 49ers entered Week 4 against the Rams Thursday with a number of injury concerns on the defensive side of the ball. Fortunately, the majority of their wounded players were able to take the field for the game.

Defensive backs Raymond Ventrone (concussion) and Carlos Rogers (knee), defensive linemen Ray McDonald (ankle) and Justin Smith (shoulder) and linebacker NaVorro Bowman (wrist) were all active for the game despite their injuries.

The team is missing key contributors in the form of defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) and linebacker Patrick Willis (groin), however.

Of seven players listed on the injury report, defensive backs Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) and Raymond Ventrone (concussion), and linebacker Patrick Willis (groin) are considered questionable for the game.

Among the probable players are defensive linemen Ray McDonald (ankle) and Justin Smith (shoulder), linebacker NaVorro Bowman (wrist) and defensive back Carlos Rogers (knee).

Browns re-sign a pair

(3/16/2010) The Cleveland Browns have re-signed tight end Greg Estandia and defensive back Ray Ventrone. Estandia was claimed off waivers in September from Jacksonville. The 6-foot-8 Estandia made four catches for 45 yards in four games last season. Ventrone played mostly on special teams after signing with the Browns as a free agent in September.

Browns make roster swap

(9/16/2009) Browns coach Eric Mangini continued his roster makeover, signing free agent wide receiver Ray Ventrone and waiving defensive back DeAngelo Smith. Mangini coached Ventrone with New England in 2005. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Ventrone is expected to play on Cleveland's special teams.

Patriots re-sign trio of players

(3/17/2009) The Patriots have re-signed four players, including reserve defensive lineman Mike Wright. The 27-year-old Wright became an unrestricted free agent after playing in all 16 games last season, including two starts at defensive end in place of an injured Ty Warren. In addition to Wright, the Patriots announced Monday they had reached new deals with safeties Tank Williams and Ray Ventrone. Williams signed with New England as a free agent before the 2008 season but had a season-ending knee injury in the team's first preseason game.

Patriots list Week 17 inactives

(12/28/2008) The New England Patriots have listed the following players as inactive for Week 17 at Buffalo: DB Lewis Sanders, DB Raymond Ventrone, RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis and QB Matt Gutierrez (3rd QB).

Ventrone working on WR skills

(8/25/2008) In his first three seasons, Raymond Ventrone got into just four games for the New England Patriots. Now the defensive back is also a wide receiver, and he's hoping that might help him get on the field more. Ventrone is still far down on the depth chart at both positions, but his ability to handle them should help his bid to earn a spot on the roster that gets cut to 75 players on Tuesday before the final cut to 53 on Saturday. "Where would I want to play? Wherever they ask me," Ventrone said Monday. "It doesn't matter to me. I enjoy doing everything and I think that they see that, too."

DB Ventrone signed by Pats

(3/12/2008) The Patriots signed safety Ray Ventrone on Wednesday.

(11/7/2007) The Patriots activated wide receiver Chad Jackson and cornerback Eddie Jackson from the physically unable to perform list Wednesday, and also released safety Ray Ventrone. He also had four rushes for 22 yards, three punt returns for 76 yards and a 21-yard kickoff return. Eddie Jackson was signed as a free agent in March after spending the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Carolina Panthers in 2004. Both have been practicing with the team.
