Shawn Lauvao trying to fit in with Redskins

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/9/2014) Redskins guard Shawn Lauvao is adjusting well to his new team, offensive line coach Chris Foerster said. Lavao came over from the Browns and is expected to start at left guard next to Trent Williams.

"He got better every day," Foerster said of Lauvao's work at mandatory minicamp and OTAs. "It was all new to him. He needs to get out there and play. He’s more of a practice guy; he needs to be out there doing it.

"Trent [Williams] can make a lot of guys look good when they play next to him. He’s doing a good job with Shawn teaching him how to do things and [Lauvao] made huge strides from voluntary minicamp."

Redskins move Kory Lichtensteiger to center

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/30/2014) The Redskins have moved Kory Lichtensteiger to center after signing guard Shawn Lauvao this spring. The thinking is that Lauvao will play left guard, which is where Lichtensteiger used to play.

"I'm excited about it," Lichtensteiger told ESPN. "It's one of those things I always excelled at, more so than guard. When I made that switch in college [at Bowling Green], it was my better years at football. For whatever reason my build, my ability is more suited to center. I look forward to snapping the ball, making some calls and hopefully taking my game to a higher level."

Shawn Lauvao lands with the Redskins

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/11/2014) The Redskins have signed former Browns guard Shawn Lauvao to a four-year deal worth $17 million, ESPN reports.

Lauvao has started each game he's played in the last three seasons, missing five games last season with an injury. He's expected to start right away for Washington.

Boatload of Browns out of Friday session

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/27/2013) The Browns are banged up heading into their season finale against the Steelers. Nose tackle Phillip Taylor (concussion), defensive end John Hughes (knee) and offensive linemen Jason Pinkston (concussion) and Shawn Lauvao (thigh) were all absent from Friday practice.

Their statuses for the game against Pittsburgh will be clearer when the team releases its injury report later in the afternoon.

Browns starting guards to remain in place

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/13/2013) The return of Jason Pinkston from an ankle injury will not change the starting guard situation for the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. John Greco and Shawn Lauvao will remain the starters.

The offensive line has provided better protection in recent weeks after a terrible start to the season, though the run blocking remains a concern.

Browns release injury list as they prepare for Bills

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/2/2013) The Browns are relatively healthy heading into their battle against the Bills on Thursday night. Only linebackers Jabaal Sheard (knee) and Quentin Groves (ankle) are listed as doubtful.

Defensive tackle John Hughes (knee) and right guard Shawn Lauvao (ankle) are questionable. Among the probables are offensive lineman Oniel Cousins (chest), placekicker Billy Cundiff (thigh), running back Chris Ogbonnaya (thigh) and quarterback Brandon Weeden (thumb).

Defensive end Bllly Winn (quad) has been ruled out.

Shawn Lauvao feels he's ready to make season debut

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/1/2013) Browns right guard Shawn Lauvao hopes to make his 2013 debut Thursday vs. Buffalo after missing nearly two months with a high ankle sprain, according to The Plain Dealer. Lauvao did practice all last week before being ruled out for the fourth time this season.

"It just wasn’t where I thought I’d be, but now I feel a lot more confident about it," Lauvao said. "I was just being safe, I guess.

Asked about playing Thursday, he said: "I hope so. I’m pretty positive about it . . . but at the end of the day, it’s coach’s decision."

Browns unveil Week 4 inactives

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/29/2013) The Browns released their inactives prior to Sunday's game against the Bengals in Week 4, and the list featured three players already ruled out by injury. Quarterback Brandon Weeden (thumb), defensive lineman Billy Winn (quadriceps) and linebacker Quentin Groves (ankle) were all unable to suit up, as expected. Linebacker Jabaal Sheard (knee) was also inactive for the game.

The remainder of the inactive list includes tight end Keavon Milton and offensive linemen Martin Wallace and Shawn Lauvao

Shawn Lauvao closing in on 2013 debut?

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/25/2013) Browns right guard Shawn Lauvao could be close to returning from an ankle injury that has kept him out all season. He stepped up his work in practice on Wednesday, according to the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

The loss of Lauvao proved devastating to the pass protection the first two weeks as the Browns surrendered 11 sacks. But replacement Oniel Cousins and what had been a porous right side of the line performed better Sunday in Minnesota.

Shawn Lauvao absence could spell trouble for Browns

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/13/2013) Browns guard Shawn Lauvao (ankle) remained sidelined from practice Friday and is not expected to play Sunday in Baltimore, according to the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

The continued absence of Lauvao means that converted tackle Oniel Cousins will again start at right guard. Cousins committed four penalties in the Week 1 loss to Miami and played a role in the Dolphins racking up six sacks, mostly off the right side of the Cleveland offensive line.

Shawn Lauvao still out as Oniel Cousins remains starter at guard

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/12/2013) The dire situation at guard for the Browns got no brighter on Thursday when starter Shawn Lauvao (ankle) remained sidelined from practice.

Replacement Oniel Cousins, a converted tackle, was whistled for four penalties, including one that negated a touchdown, in the defeat to Miami on Sunday. He was part of a right side that struggled mightily with penalties and sacks.

There has yet to be confirmation on Lauvao's status for the game Sunday in Baltimore. But Rob Chudzinski has expressed confidence in Cousins if he indeed must continue to start.

Shawn Lauvao still sidelined; Sunday status unclear

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/11/2013) Browns right guard Shawn Lauvao (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, but he has not been ruled out for Sunday, according to the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

The team is desperate for help at that position. Starter Oniel Cousins, a converted tackle, committed four penalties in the loss to Miami, including one that negated a touchdown. Rob Chudzinski expressed confidence that Cousins will improve, but the Browns would certainly welcome Lauvao back for the Week 2 clash in Baltimore.

Browns still seeking guard after rash of injuries

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(8/21/2013) Rob Chudzinski stressed that the Browns are "burning the midnight oil" searching for a right guard with Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston both down. Rookie seventh-rounder Garrett Gilkey has played well, but is raw.

The Browns thought they had the answer when they traded with the Seahawks for experienced guard John Moffitt, but he never played a minute of practice before he was sent back to Seattle after failing a physical.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(8/17/2013) Ankle injuries to guards Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston have pushed rookie seventh-round pick Garrett Gilkey into the starting job on the right side for the Browns. Lauvao and Pinkston are both expected to miss the first couple weeks of the regular season.

The 330-pound Gilkey did not appear overmatched in the preseason game Thursday against Detroit. He is working with the first unit in practice on Saturday.
