Shawn Lauvao trying to fit in with Redskins

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/9/2014) Redskins guard Shawn Lauvao is adjusting well to his new team, offensive line coach Chris Foerster said. Lavao came over from the Browns and is expected to start at left guard next to Trent Williams.

"He got better every day," Foerster said of Lauvao's work at mandatory minicamp and OTAs. "It was all new to him. He needs to get out there and play. He’s more of a practice guy; he needs to be out there doing it.

"Trent [Williams] can make a lot of guys look good when they play next to him. He’s doing a good job with Shawn teaching him how to do things and [Lauvao] made huge strides from voluntary minicamp."

Redskins move Kory Lichtensteiger to center

by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(4/30/2014) The Redskins have moved Kory Lichtensteiger to center after signing guard Shawn Lauvao this spring. The thinking is that Lauvao will play left guard, which is where Lichtensteiger used to play.

"I'm excited about it," Lichtensteiger told ESPN. "It's one of those things I always excelled at, more so than guard. When I made that switch in college [at Bowling Green], it was my better years at football. For whatever reason my build, my ability is more suited to center. I look forward to snapping the ball, making some calls and hopefully taking my game to a higher level."

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/13/2013) The return of Jason Pinkston from an ankle injury will not change the starting guard situation for the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. John Greco and Shawn Lauvao will remain the starters.

The offensive line has provided better protection in recent weeks after a terrible start to the season, though the run blocking remains a concern.

"It just wasn’t where I thought I’d be, but now I feel a lot more confident about it," Lauvao said. "I was just being safe, I guess.

Asked about playing Thursday, he said: "I hope so. I’m pretty positive about it . . . but at the end of the day, it’s coach’s decision."

The loss of Lauvao proved devastating to the pass protection the first two weeks as the Browns surrendered 11 sacks. But replacement Oniel Cousins and what had been a porous right side of the line performed better Sunday in Minnesota.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/13/2013) Browns guard Shawn Lauvao (ankle) remained sidelined from practice Friday and is not expected to play Sunday in Baltimore, according to the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

There has yet to be confirmation on Lauvao's status for the game Sunday in Baltimore. But Rob Chudzinski has expressed confidence in Cousins if he indeed must continue to start.
