Neal is on the physically-unable-to-perform list while recovering from a core muscle injury. He's scheduled to be examined Tuesday, and if all goes well, he should be back on the field one day later. The linebacker reported to camp at 263 pounds after playing last season at 275 pounds.

Mike Neal enjoyed transition to outside linebacker

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/14/2014) Packers outside linebacker Mike Neal dropped 30 pounds last offseason as he transitioned from the defensive line. If the impending free agent re-signs with Green Bay, his first preference, he plans to drop another 10 pounds and play the 2014 season at about 265 pounds, reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

"You think about people making transitions, and to make it in as short a period as I did and to be as successful as I was, if I play another year I wouldn't expect anything less than to be great," said Neal, who had 47 tackles, an interception and five sacks.

"I had a lot of success," he added. "I didn't have as many sacks as I wanted, but just the last eight games the way I played, I can build on that if I end up playing outside linebacker wherever I go.

"I was always a rush defensive tackle in this system. I was fine with that; that's what I did good. I lost the weight and played outside linebacker. I'm good with that, too. I can play multiple positions and I look forward to it."
