(9/10/2014) The Lions worked out cornerback Dimitri Patterson, who was cut by the Jets after the team accused him of going AWOL before a preseason game, reports the Detroit News. Patterson disputed the Jets' account.

Jets chop roster down to 53

(8/30/2014) The Jets have cut their roster down to 53 by waiving a number of players.

Those on offense are quarterback Tajh Boyd and Matt Simms, wide receivers Clyde Gates and Stephen Hill, running backs Daryl Richardson and Alex Green, tight end Chris Pantale, linemen Brent Qvale and Caleb Schlauderaff.

The defenders imclude defensive backs Rontez Miles, Jeremy Reeves, Johnny Patrick, Dimitri Patterson and Brandon Dixon, linemen Zach Thompson, Kerry Hyder and Tevita Finau and linebackers Garrett McIntyre and A.J. Edds.

Linebacker Antwan Barnes has been placed on the PUP list.


Dimitri Patterson refutes team claim that led to suspension

(8/28/2014) Jets cornerback Dimitri Patterson, who has suspended by the team for the rest of the preseason for allegedly going AWOL, told ESPN that those allegations are "completely false."

"As it relates to my whereabouts and me missing for 48 hours without being seen or heard from me or my representatives is complete false," he said in a statement texted to the media. "My agent reached out to the Jets organization multiple times several hours prior to Friday night's game. My commitment to the Jets organization and to my teammates has never been an issue and never will be an issue.

"As it relates to the rumors about my frustration in regards to the dept chart is totally and completely false. In nine years I have never had control over the depth chart."

Terms of the suspension indicated that his absense was inexcused. Patterson did not show up for the game against the Giants. His whereabouts were unknown until his agent told the Jets the next day that he was fine. A source said he was unhappy with his role on the team.

Patterson didn't show up for Friday's preseason game and was not in contact with the team for nearly 48 hours. The team declined to provide any additional info about the meeting.

Patterson reportedly was frustrated with recent leg injuries. But it's still a mystery why he went AWOL.

Dimitri Patterson gets extra work in preseason opener

(8/8/2014)  Jets defensive back Dimitri Patterson played the most snaps on the defense in Thursday's preseason opener against the Colts, as the team tried to get him reps at multiple spots on the field.

"For the most part, I've been at (outside) corner (during training camp), but they wanted to put me in and work some nickel reps," Patterson told The Star-Ledger after the game.

Patterson played 41 of the team's 64 defensive snaps, well more than the 26 the rest of the starters played. He spent much of his time in the second half working in the slot, to see if can do spot duty there during the season.

Patterson also downplayed concerns about a calf and ankle injury that has slowed him during training camp at times. He has played just 15 games over the last two seasons due to injuries.

"Nothing that should hold me back," he said. "These are all things that I can deal with and still play with. Nothing to really lose sleep over. In an ideal world, you want to feel great, but that's not going to be the case right now. Everybody is probably dealing with something. It's not that serious.”

(7/11/2014) Unable to land a high-end free agent cornerback, the Jets "were forced to settle for journeyman Dimitri Patterson as a consolation," notes The Star-Ledger. Patterson, who projects to start opposite Dee Milliner, is on his sixth team in 10 seasons and has played all 16 games just once in his career.

If Patterson falters, third-round pick Dexter McDougle could get a shot.

He is coming off a season-ending shoulder injury after just three games in college, but he should be a situational player for the Jets as a rookie and play on special teams. He will likely be the No. 3 cornerback at best for the Jets behind Dee Milliner and Dimitri Patterson.

(4/1/2014) The Jets announced the signing of defensive back Dimitri Patterson Tuesday, to a one-year deal worth $3 million according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Patterson played in just six games last season due to injuries, but played well when he was out there. He had four interceptions and 19 tackles in his six games. Patterson has played all 16 games in a season just once during a nine-year career.
