Editor's note: Senior Fantasy Writers Dave Richard and Jamey Eisenberg disagree a lot on particular players in a given week. Instead of trying to convince each other they are right, we feel it makes for good reading to hear each argument. Here are their best debates entering Week 14.
A lot of Fantasy owners drafted Romo with a high draft pick for a reason: his potential to post gaudy statistics. Even with Romo about to begin a gauntlet of tough matchups with the Steelers in Pittsburgh, his owners simply can't cut bait on him now. This week, he's the only chance the Cowboys have to win as Marion Barber will likely be playing hurt and running into the Steelers' stiff run defense. Between the Cowboys' mountainous offensive line, a talented quartet of receivers, an intelligent offensive coordinator and Romo's mobility in the pocket in avoiding the blitz (he's only been sacked eight times this year), I think the Steelers' defense will have their toughest matchup of the season. Only in obvious situations (Warner vs. the Rams, Brees vs. the Falcons and Peyton Manning vs. the Bengals) should an owner even think about giving Romo Week 14 off. I'd start him over: Aaron Rodgers vs. HOU
Here's the decision I have to make this week in the first round of my Fantasy playoffs: Kurt Warner or Romo. While I expect Romo to be the first quarterback to top 300 yards against the Steelers this year, he will also have some turnovers. The Steelers, who are No. 1 in pass defense, are at home, and Dallas should be one-dimensional with Marion Barber (toe) hurt. Warner (vs. STL) has a better matchup, and I would also start Aaron Rodgers (vs. HOU) and potentially Matt Ryan (at NO) over Romo this week, which is a decision some owners could make since Warner, Rodgers and Ryan were likely drafted as No. 2 options back in August. I'd rather start (in order): Warner vs. STL; Rodgers vs. HOU; Ryan at NO
Here are two true statements: The Giants are fantastic against the run, and the Eagles' tendency is to throw more than pass. So right away, we know McNabb's arm is going to work overtime on Sunday. McNabb is coming off a fantastic, job-saving win and has a little extra rest and a little more time to prepare for the Giants' secondary. Not only are the Giants a pass defense that McNabb threw three touchdowns against back in Week 10, but they've also begun to show weakness against teams that are efficient in the passing game (Arizona is one such example). The Meadowlands has never been great to McNabb, but if you're looking for a couple of touchdowns and around 200 passing yards with a shot at two-dozen rush yards, he won't disappoint. I'd start him over: Shaun Hill vs. NYJ
McNabb bounced back last week with 260 yards and four touchdowns against Arizona, but he had everything in his favor in that matchup with the Cardinals coming across the country on a short week. Arizona also leads the NFL in passing touchdowns allowed. But McNabb doesn't have those same luxuries this week. The Giants are No. 10 in pass defense and No. 2 in sacks with 40. They will attack McNabb, who had 194 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Giants earlier this year. But in New York, McNabb has struggled. In his past five trips to the Meadowlands, McNabb has averaged just 177.3 passing yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. I'd rather start: Tyler Thigpen at DEN
I love the fact that Westbrook is coming off a big game and has had three extra days to rest up. It is Westbrook's flashy, versatile ability mixed with the Eagles' creative play calling that helps him land big stats, and the Eagles will need him if they're going to win the game. Westbrook also has a fantastic history of torturing the Giants and snapped a nine-game streak of having 100 total yards and/or a touchdown four weeks ago when he played against them hurt. Do I think Westbrook is the picture of health? No, but no one is in Week 14. Do I think Westbrook has enough in the tank to make a dent against the Giants defense? Absolutely. I'd start him over: Willie Parker vs. DAL
Again, I will reference my own team since I am a Westbrook owner heading into the playoffs. And I am lucky enough to have great options this week with Matt Forte against Jacksonville, Chris Johnson against Cleveland and Thomas Jones at San Francisco, so I can sit Westbrook this week. If you have a similar scenario, do the same. I liked what Westbrook did last week, but I'm not convinced that's he's all the way back. It was a great matchup for him against Arizona, but the Giants are a different story. New York held Westbrook to 59 total yards earlier this year and should be able to contain him again. I'd rather start: LenDale White vs. CLE
Mr. Hightower, meet the rookie wall. Rookie wall, meet Mr. Hightower. In his last four games, which includes battles against the weak 49ers and Seahawks run defenses, Hightower has amassed 85 yards on 42 carries. Worse yet, he's seen his workload drift away from him in his last four games. If you want to start him and cross your fingers for a touchdown, that's fine. But expecting a ton of yards seems a bit much, even against the hapless Rams. I'd rather start: Justin Fargas at SD
The last time Hightower faced the Rams was back in Week 9, and he had 109 rushing yards and a touchdown. That started a bad streak for the Rams where every starting running back they faced (Thomas Jones, Frank Gore, Matt Forte and Ronnie Brown) scored a touchdown. The Rams are second in the NFL with 21 rushing touchdowns allowed, and Hightower has the chance to play well again. He's struggled recently, but he will bounce back in this matchup. I'd start him over: Marion Barber at PIT
Coming off a dud game against the Raiders, a team he's never had much success against, Bowe will play at Denver against the Broncos, another team he's struggled with. Bowe has yet to score on them in three career meetings and will find the going tough as the Broncos have improved defensively, including against the pass (one 100-yard receiver, one passing touchdown allowed in last three games). It sure doesn't help that Bowe hasn't scored in his last four road games. I'd rather start: Marvin Harrison vs. CIN
Bowe hasn't scored a touchdown against the Broncos in three career meetings, but that doesn't mean he hasn't played well. He has at least seven catches for 85 yards in two of those games, and the Broncos won't slow him down this week. Look for Bowe to be involved in the passing game, and Denver is No. 27 in pass defense. He's too good of a receiver in this matchup to put on your bench. I'd start him over: Santana Moss at BAL
