You always want to stay ahead of your league. Make a move or two on the waiver wire if you can with the thought of not just this week, but two or three weeks down the line.
I tried to do that this scoring period.
My intention was to add Shonn Greene in every league, but I wasn't high enough on waivers, so I missed out. Then, when I wasn't trying to fill needs, I tried to add depth.
I picked up Jamaal Charles or Fred Davis in four of the five leagues shown here. Maybe these guys pan out, with Larry Johnson having a meltdown and getting suspended and Chris Cooley (ankle) going down, or maybe they just take up space. But I'm willing to find out.
You have to take certain risks with players who have potential if you can afford to make a move. Charles is a reserve running back and may never start in any of my leagues, but maybe I can trade him if he plays well.
The same goes for Davis since he's a second tight end. But with flex spots or when the matchup is right, I would consider using Charles or Davis after seeing them in Week 9 coming off the bye week.
Remember, players come out of nowhere all the time, even on bad teams. Last year, Cedric Benson turned into a Fantasy star after getting a second chance with Cincinnati, and Brent Celek finished the season strong in Philadelphia. Those are two examples of a running back and tight end who were afterthoughts when the season started but finished strong after being added off the waiver wire.

Players will continue to emerge each week due to injury or other movement. That's what happened to Greene, Charles, Davis and Beanie Wells.
The key as a Fantasy owner is to be aggressive on the waiver wire to make sure you don't miss out. Don't wait until it's too late and that player ends up on someone else's roster.

Sometimes it's good to have a tough decision, and one that I'm facing this week is at running back. I have Matt Forte, Ray Rice and Joseph Addai, and currently Addai is on the bench.
Forte finally has a matchup where he should run well at home against the Browns, and Rice has been too hot to bench no matter the opponent. Addai, even with Donald Brown (shoulder) expected to miss the game, comes in third for me.
This could be one of those weeks where after the game I'm throwing things because Addai was the best of the three, but I have to go with the matchup of Forte against Cleveland. And after he has a good game, I'm going to try and trade him.
Forte has a tough schedule ahead, and he's struggled this year. He was my keeper, but I can pencil in Rice for that spot heading into next year since we only keep one player.
I've struggled in his league with injuries to Anthony Gonzalez (knee) and Calvin Johnson (knee) since they were two players I was counting on, but I hope at some point they can play a key role. Thankfully, Sidney Rice has emerged to be a starter opposite Larry Fitzgerald.
I'm currently in fourth place in my division despite being the second-highest scorer, and this week I'm playing the owner who is tied for first. I need to win otherwise my season could end, so this is a big week.

Like many Fantasy owners, I'll be waiting patiently Sunday when it comes to the status of Reggie Wayne (groin), which is why you should watch Fantasy Football Today at 11 a.m. EST since we have the inactives before anyone else. His status could make or break my roster.
I've used a three wide receiver lineup to carry my team with Wayne, Marques Colston and Chad Ochocinco, but with the Bengals on a bye, I'm already a man down. I'm going with Steve Breaston at the flex spot this week, but without Wayne I'd be forced to make some moves.
Felix Jones, Correll Buckhalter or Jonathan Stewart would be my options to replace Wayne, with Jones the likely candidate, but none of them thrill me this week. Obviously, I'd much rather have Wayne.
I also don't expect Donald Brown (shoulder) to play, and hopefully the Colts can manage without two key players on offense against the 49ers. I'm counting on the Saints and Colts with this roster, and I need everyone healthy.
With this league, I have to be worried come Fantasy playoff time with Indianapolis and New Orleans potentially shutting things down if they clinch playoff berths and No. 1 seeds early. A lot has to be decided still, but it's something Fantasy owners have to consider when you have players on great teams.
I don't want to go too many weeks without Wayne or Colston, especially at the important part of the season, so hopefully they will keep playing at full throttle all the way through Week 17.

I had a rough loss in this league last week thanks to Vernon Davis. Seeing him score three touchdowns was excruciating as I lost by 25 points with Davis accounting for 34. Granted, Davis has played well this season, but that was tough to watch.
This week, I have to play my colleague, Eric Mack, and he made a great trade to help his roster. With Ben Roethlisberger and Carson Palmer on a bye, he traded Hines Ward to get Matt Schaub.
He's 2-5, but he has a solid team. And of course this is the week I get to face Steven Jackson and LaDainian Tomlinson when they have their best matchups of the season. He also has Mike Bell playing at a high level at the flex spot and the Bears DST in a dream game against Cleveland.
My team is stuck at quarterback with Matt Ryan and Matt Hasselbeck having tough matchups, and I need Greg Jennings to break out of his season-long funk. It would also help if all of Schaub's passes went to Owen Daniels.
But as long as his tight end, Todd Heap, doesn't score three touchdowns, this should be competitive even though I'm bracing for a loss. Sometimes the matchups just don't work out in your favor.

This could be a league where I regret not making a move to add Fred Davis. I keep holding out hope that Jason Witten will turn things around.
Witten has been one of the biggest disappointments this season. He was the No. 1 tight end drafted in leagues on CBSSports.com, but he comes into Week 8 ranked No. 16 in standard-scoring leagues. Some of the tight ends ahead of him weren't drafted in the majority of leagues -- Vernon Davis, Heath Miller, Benjamin Watson, Zach Miller and Todd Heap.
Now, it would be hard to bench Witten based on his potential and role in the offense, but there comes a point when a bust is officially a bust. I may have to drop Tashard Choice to add Davis just in case Witten doesn't rebound.
This week, I'm facing the best team in the league, who has Peyton Manning, Kevin Smith, Vincent Jackson and Miles Austin. We are both leading out respective divisions, so it will be a tough matchup.
I'm counting on my receiving corps and Maurice Jones-Drew to lead the way, and hopefully Tim Hightower isn't totally ruined by Beanie Wells' emergence. The key could be a good game from Witten, which would put my mind at ease about Davis.

We play each other in this league, one of two leagues where we go head-to-head this week. Normally I would be concerned in a matchup with someone as knowledgeable as Dave, especially since I have to start Marc Bulger at quarterback in place of Tom Brady, who is on a bye.
But Dave, who is 3-4, is missing his two best players in Cedric Benson and Randy Moss, and he's stuck waiting on Calvin Johnson's injury status. His replacements for Benson and Moss are Michael Bush and Brian Hartline, so I feel like I'm getting a break since Brady is off.
This league has turned around for me after an 0-3 start with four wins in a row. With Brady playing better, Joseph Addai having a rebound season and Ray Rice's emergence, I have plenty of talent with Andre Johnson, Jeremy Shockey and now Sidney Rice.
Two mistakes I made in this league, however, are sitting on Dave's bench. I drafted Jamaal Charles but dropped him in Week 3. I then added Chad Henne after Chad Pennington got hurt but dropped him in Week 5 for Sidney Rice.
Dave promptly picked up Charles and Henne, and now he has a potential starting running back and a solid backup quarterback option for Matt Schaub. Luckily, I won't have to play against those players this week because there's nothing worse than losing to a team full of players you once owned.
But I can confidently say that with the way the lineups are set this week, I'm not going to lose. Sorry Dave.
