2010 Draft Prep: Rookies to run with in 2010
By Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer Follow DaveFollow CBS Fantasy Football
When most people start a new job, it takes a little time for them to get acclimated. They might need to take in an orientation program or have a day to decorate their office, and meeting new people is an ongoing process.
No such thing for rookie running backs. They're drafted, they learn a playbook and then they start running. End of story.

Rookie running backs have been factors in Fantasy Football for decades. Unlike their peers at quarterback, wide receiver and tight end, there's no time to gather experience or get used to their new surroundings. They're expected to make an impact immediately, and the instant gratification that's expected with the top rookie rushers is what makes them so desirable in NFL Drafts -- and Fantasy drafts.
Of course, it doesn't always work out that way. Just because a running back is a rookie doesn't give him a free pass for big stats. It might give him a chance at playing time in some capacity, but there's really only one or two rookie rushers per season who can contribute big in Fantasy Football from a yardage standpoint based on recent history.
| Year | 1,000 rush yards | 1,000 total yards | 6-plus total TDs |
| 2009 | 0 | 1 | 2 |
| 2008 | 3 | 4 | 7 |
| 2007 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| 2006 | 1 | 2 | 5 |
| 2005 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| 2004 | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| 2003 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| 2002 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| 2001 | 3 | 3 | 3 |
| 2000 | 2 | 2 | 4 |
Like anything else, rookie rushing success is all about opportunity and making the most of it. While a rookie isn't always promised playing time, he is promised to have fresh legs compared to peers at his position. That doesn't hurt things.
