To prepare you as best we can for your week of Fantasy Football, we've devised this series of previews for each NFL game. We'll give you a taste of what to expect, then rank each significant Fantasy contributor on a scale from 0-5 logos (with five logos suggesting can't-miss; a player or unit without any logos suggests you probably shouldn't start him under any circumstances). The rankings take the matchup into account, but injuries and other significant factors also contribute. You should be able to compare the ratings for the players on your team and make an educated pick on who should start -- and sit -- in your lineup .
Raiders at Steelers - Sunday, 1:00 p.m. |  Fantasy Preview | |||||
| It's really hard to expect the Raiders to win here like they did last season, but they could hang around. Last week the Patriots really out-schemed the Steelers at the line of scrimmage and took advantage of their second-string defensive linemen, and the Raiders are sure to do exactly the same thing. When push comes to shove and the Raiders are knocking at the goal line, the Steelers should stand up, but between the red zones we could see Darren McFadden and Michael Bush consistently run for short gains. Can Jason Campbell make it happen for the third straight game? That's a taller task -- while he might look to take advantage of whoever is covered by Steelers cornerback William Gay (it could be Zach Miller), the reality is that his receiving corps would all have to play their best ball to have a chance. The Raiders' scheme is fairly predictable and that will hurt them more than anything else. With Nnamdi Asomugha back and Oakland's front seven playing better against the run than they have in years, the Steelers will be challenged when they have the ball. Rashard Mendenhall is a candidate to break up the Raiders' run-stopping ways, but Ben Roethlisberger might have to be at his best to consistently move the ball on the Raiders. Mike Wallace is developing into the big-play receiver everyone expected, and if Roethlisberger can buy time in the pocket, even Asomugha won't be able to keep up with him. | |||||

| A win here gives Green Bay the head-to-head tiebreaker plus seven wins while handing Minnesota its seventh loss. That would effectively knock the Vikings out of the NFC North and give their playoff hopes a huge kick in the gut. Aaron Rodgers will be asked to bring it home for the Packers -- the Vikings aren't blitzing lot and their pass rush can be beaten (Cutler did it last week and Rodgers did it in Week 4). Count on Rodgers to lean on all of his receivers but look for speed down the seams with Greg Jennings and James Jones. Donald Driver might play but could be limited. One sleeper: Spencer Havner, who scored four touchdowns for the Packers last season and was re-signed this week. With Green Bay's tight ends underperforming since Jermichael Finley got hurt, Havner could come up with a cheap touchdown. The matchup is tough for the Vikings beyond Adrian Peterson. Brett Favre didn't play poorly last week in spite of his numbers, but he wasn't great either. Look for Green Bay to throw a ton of blitzes at him as early as second down and create turnovers in the process. Hurting Favre more is his receiving corps: Percy Harvin is banged up (but he has scored in each of last two against the Pack), Visanthe Shiancoe hasn't been involved as much as we'd expect, Sidney Rice isn't feeling healthy enough to play, Bernard Berrian's groin is ailing and no one's counting on Greg Camarillo or Greg Lewis. It could be a long week for Favre, and unless Peterson and potentially Toby Gerhart carry the offense, it could be the end of the line for Minnesota. | |||||

| It's hard to get behind any Redskins in this matchup. Playing on a short week at Tennessee against a defense that is pretty solid makes for a tough week. The line of scrimmage for Washington will be a problem as Tennessee's defensive front should come crashing into Donovan McNabb's face and forcing him into some errors. Keiland Williams dazzled last week but might only give you good total yardage this week as the Titans shouldn't have a hard time. Chris Cooley is a candidate to score simply because the Titans have been struggling with opposing tight ends lately. Now, the Redskins are coming off a game where they were burned early and often by the deep ball. Expect Washington to revert to a Cover-2 shell in the defensive backfield, which will only make things easier for Chris Johnson. Once he starts scaring the Redskins, they might dedicate a safety to helping the run support, and that opens up the Titans to go deep on Washington just as the Eagles did early and often last week. Randy Moss and Nate Washington are the obvious candidates to strike, though by watching Moss run it's apparent that Washington has better speed. Johnson should lead the way for the Titans, though. | |||||

| Defenses playing the Browns know full well that they'll get plenty of Peyton Hillis, and they still can't stop him. The Saints, Patriots and Jets in consecutive weeks couldn't slow him down -- what chance does Jacksonville have? Hillis should lead the way, but the Browns have been really savvy in their game plans this year and might open up the playbook for Colt McCoy against the porous Jaguars secondary. Benjamin Watson could rebound after a quiet couple of weeks, and Mohamed Massaquoi might be unleashed on a few deep routes. The Jaguars should be thrilled to have David Garrard playing well because they'll need him this week. Cleveland's run defense is for real and Maurice Jones-Drew might be held out of the end zone for the fourth time in six games. The Browns' pass defense is still the weak link and there will be opportunities for Mike Thomas and Mike Sims-Walker (if healthy) to pick up some yardage ... without counting on Hail Mary receptions. | |||||

| We're not sure if any offense playing the Panthers won't put up a good number of points and deliver statistically for the rest of the season. The Ravens' offensive line should maul the Panthers' front seven and open up lanes for Ray Rice (and Willis McGahee) to pick up chunks of yardage. And with zero pass rush going for Carolina, Joe Flacco will find things relatively easy. Flacco has at least two touchdowns in each of his last four; that should keep up against Carolina, and Rice should easily total 100 yards. The success that Mike Goodson had last week won't happen here. While he's a speedy threat, he'll have to get more work as a receiver to come close to 100 yards, and a touchdown doesn't seem likely. The Ravens will likely take the threat of Steve Smith seriously, keeping a safety tilted to his side of the field, and otherwise attack career third-string QB Brian St. Pierre. This game should get one-sided for the Panthers fairly quickly, likely leading to a tough week for all of their players. | |||||

| Expect this game to feature plenty of passing as neither secondary has proven to be effective. The Lions haven't been able to run the ball since Week 2 and aren't expected to get a boost from Jahvid Best on the ground, so look for Shaun Hill to spread the ball around and make use of all of his targets, which includes Best, who has been a capable receiver. All eyes will be on Calvin Johnson, but with the Cowboys potentially down one of their starting cornerbacks, there's plenty of upside for Nate Burleson as well as tight end Brandon Pettigrew. The catch here is whether or not Dallas' defense can rattle Hill -- if they can get to him. Because Hill is not afraid to take off, he could easily slip away from the Cowboys and pick up some yards on the ground. On the other side, not only do the Lions need to concern themselves with a motivated quarterback -- ex-Lion Jon Kitna -- gunning downfield a bunch, but Felix Jones is coming off his best game of the season and will certainly play a role in this one. Detroit's run defense has regressed and their pass defense, save for cornerback Alphonso Smith, is a huge liability. The Cowboys' receivers were focused last week at New York and Kitna's numbers went from 'good enough' to 'gleaming.' Expect a repeat, and don't be shocked if at some point Roy Williams makes a play -- he's an ex-Lion too. | |||||

| Matt Schaub is expected to play, but putting a bulls-eye on his knees isn't exactly what the Texans needed here. The Jets' secondary has been playing really well of late and Darrelle Revis did a real nice job taking Andre Johnson away from Schaub in the meeting at Houston last year. But this year, the Texans have a powerful weapon in Arian Foster, and he's expected to help both carrying and catching the ball. He'll have to get going to give Houston a chance, as will Kevin Walter, who stepped up big last week. As for Johnson, he's had at least 100 yards and a touchdown in every road game this season, but the matchup looks awfully tough for him. If you start him, and you probably will, be happy if he has even a modest day. Hard to sit him in Fantasy knowing just how great a receiver he is; if you started Calvin Johnson against the Jets, you should start Andre too. The Jets have seen great stats off the arm of Mark Sanchez in recent weeks, but this matchup should be beneficial for the run game. The Jets haven't been able to get LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene moving, and with a tough part of their schedule coming soon, they'd probably like to get them into top gear. This is the opponent to do it, and the feeling here is that Tomlinson and Greene will see a lot of work like last week with better results. In fact, the Jets' run game could be so effective that Sanchez won't throw a ton like he has in previous wins. He should be counted on for a couple of scores -- I've seen the light regarding Santonio Holmes -- but not a ton of yardage. | |||||

| Right when the Cardinals were expected to really improve offensively last week, they took a step back. Expect Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower to mix and match in the backfield, cannibalizing their stats. Making matters worse is the Chiefs run defense, which still managed to look halfway decent last week in spite of the secondary getting shredded by the Broncos. You can count on the Cardinals going vertical against the Chiefs, though the success of that will depend on how Derek Anderson's O-line protects him. Arizona lost starting right tackle Brandon Keith for the season and Jeremy Bridges will fill in -- and potentially be better. If the Cardinals can handle the Chiefs' front seven, Anderson could end up with 300 yards again. That might not help Fantasy owners -- who would trust him? -- but Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston have a little upside. Meanwhile, Kansas City is going to run wild; Arizona's run defense has given up five touchdowns in three games and rushers are doing damage through the air as well as on the ground. That really plays to the strength of the Chiefs' offense and should make for a good week for Jamaal Charles and even Thomas Jones. Dwayne Bowe's touchdown streak has a good chance of continuing, but don't expect anything close to last week's numbers for him or Matt Cassel. | |||||

| Buffalo has been using Fred Jackson a lot in recent weeks, and with their offensive line improving some in run blocking, it's probably the way they'll attack the Bengals here. Cincinnati's quality cornerbacks were on full display last week against the Colts and did a great job limiting them, so they shouldn't be overwhelmed with Steve Johnson and Lee Evans here. But stopping Jackson could be a problem for Cincinnati's thinned out defensive line; the Bengals have allowed at least one score on the ground in seven straight games (eight total). If Jackson gets going as a rusher and a receiver, Fitzpatrick's stats might look a lot like last week's. As much as the matchup says to run the ball here, there's a question as to whether or not the Bengals will lean on Cedric Benson. In a word, he's been terrible, and the Bills' run defense has actually improved over the last couple of weeks thanks in part to stronger play from lineman Dwan Edwards. There's no guarantee that Benson will get 20 touches, and with his rushing average at a cool 3.6 for the season, he can't be expected to exploit the matchup. However, you can expect Terrell Owens to give everything he's got against a Bills team he played for in 2009. Carson Palmer should also bounce back against a Bills defense that has just two interceptions on the year. It's not a bad idea to roll the dice on Chad Ochocinco or Jermaine Gresham this week given the Bills' weaknesses. | |||||

| Really hard spot for the Seahawks as they're coming off a rare road win and traveling far from home to face a Saints team that's rested. Marshawn Lynch hasn't been impressive lately and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Justin Forsett continue to take on work. The Seahawks seem headed toward an evenly-split, two-headed backfield, and Forsett is the more explosive of the two. Look for Seattle to stick to its run game as long as possible to keep the Saints offense off the field and attack the weakness of the offense. Seattle may also work Mike Williams into a prominent receiving role, but his chances of scoring are slim given that the Saints' secondary is rested and very effective. New Orleans' offense should do as they please here. The return of Reggie Bush definitely makes Lance Moore a potential bust -- Moore stepped up in the weeks Bush was out but will lose those opportunities unless the Saints put Bush in the backfield and keep Moore in the slot. That's a possibility since Chris Ivory can only do so much in the traditional running back role. Bush is a candidate to score but it's probably safer to leave him benched for his first game back from a fractured leg. After Marques Colston, it's tough to pick a receiver to like -- Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem have been quiet for a while, but if Bush can force the Seahawks to abandon the deep safety scheme they're likely to use, then Drew Brees might finally be able to start throwing downfield more. Heck, the Saints might do it anyway given the play of Seattle's cornerbacks. | |||||

| This is going to be a challenge for the Falcons. What helps them is that it's indoors and that they're healthy. What hurts them is that the Rams' front seven has exceeded all expectations while giving up just one 100-yard rushing effort and three rushing touchdowns all year. Michael Turner should see a good amount of carries, but Atlanta's fortunes will come down to Matt Ryan's arm. Roddy White will garner plenty of attention, and he should get some good stats, but this is a matchup where Tony Gonzalez, Michael Jenkins and Jason Snelling could combine for some positive gains. They're all good role players for Ryan to lean on, with Gonzalez the better red-zone alternative, Jenkins the no-brainer in single coverage on third down and Snelling the check-down option in longer down-and-distance situations. Ryan should continue to put up good numbers in Week 10. The Rams have a much harder matchup as the Falcons should be able to contain Steven Jackson and match up well with the St. Louis receivers. Danny Amendola has been dandy working out of the slot and out wide, and if the Falcons choose to cover him with cornerback Brent Grimes he could put up another touchdown. But besides Jackson and Amendola in deeper leagues, there isn't really anyone who jumps out as a potential Fantasy option. That includes Brandon Gibson, who should be no match for Dunta Robinson. | |||||

| The Buccaneers have been playing well, but they might struggle a bit here. San Francisco is gaining confidence and momentum and has been efficient on both sides of the ball. Tampa Bay won't be afraid to let Josh Freeman test the Niners' secondary here, and he might have to as the Bucs' O-line could struggle to open lanes for LeGarrette Blount. We've seen him burn the bad run defenses, but San Francisco's run defense has been pretty good all year long. Mike Williams appears as the safest Bucs' receiver to roll with, but Arrelious Benn has also been coming on and is worth a look. In theory, the 49ers should lean heavily on Frank Gore and ride him to victory against the Bucs' weak run defense. But Gore and quarterback Troy Smith won't have left tackle Joe Staley for a while. That might not be an issue here as the Bucs' D-line hasn't played well. Smith should be able to take advantage of Gore's plunges with play-action passes to the Niners' top targets, Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis. The Bucs' secondary has improved over the last couple of weeks and if Aqib Talib draws Crabtree exclusively, that might end up being a fun battle to watch. Davis especially should have a chance to put up some decent numbers. | |||||

| What tends to happen when the Colts and Patriots meet up is that the quarterbacks take the game into their own hands. Just look at last year. There's no doubt that Peyton Manning will lead the Colts' charge and attack the Patriots' young secondary. Yes, New England's defense did a nice job for much of last Sunday's game at the Steelers, but even when they knew Ben Roethlisberger would pass they couldn't entirely contain deep threat Mike Wallace. Manning should be protected well enough to take some downfield shots which should mostly benefit Reggie Wayne. If Pierre Garcon had been playing more consistently then he'd have a shot too. Austin Collie could also return and be a part of the Colts' four-receiver set with Wayne, Garcon and Jacob Tamme, and that could eat up the Patriots. Remember, last week Manning was thin on receiving help against good cornerbacks -- this week is different. And a note on Tamme: The Patriots always did a great job taking Dallas Clark away from Manning (one 100-yard game, no TDs in last seven vs. Patriots), and with Tamme playing at a high level, don't be shocked if the Patriots treat him exactly like they treat Clark. Just lower your expectations there. Much of Tom Brady's success against the Colts was thanks in large part to Randy Moss, who is long gone from the Patriots. Brady has had an incredible last two weeks but the results came in games against awesome run defenses. I expect the Patriots' brass to take one look at Indy's run defense, which gives up 4.9 rush yards per carry on average, and give BenJarvus Green-Ellis a shot to kill the clock and pick up plenty of first downs. Furthermore, the Colts' pass defense isn't that bad: Only three times all year have opposing quarterbacks thrown for multiple scores, and two of those came in blowout wins for Indy. Also, the Colts' cornerbacks should be at full strength. Brady could end up with a good stat line, but in a week where so many other quarterbacks have delightful matchups, he could be the difference between a close Fantasy game and a blowout. But when Brady does look to throw, expect Rob Gronkowski to keep playing a role along with Wes Welker as the Pats have often used the seams regularly against traditional Cover-2 defenses like the Colts. | |||||

| This has the makings of a shootout the way both offenses are playing, but the Giants might encounter a bit more trouble than the Eagles. Still, you guys know who to start from the Giants and the belief is that they'll all have the opportunity to do well. The Eagles' cornerback tandem of Asante Samuel and Dimitri Patterson have played well of late and could make life tougher for Mario Manningham, who isn't quite as gifted a receiver as Hakeem Nicks. But between all of Eli Manning's options, even without Steve Smith, the Giants should put some points on the board. Manningham isn't worth being as excited about as last week, and it could be tougher for Brandon Jacobs to find a touchdown on limited reps, especially given the way the Eagles' run defense has been playing (throw out last week when they blew out the Redskins and called off the dogs). The Giants will also have their hands full on defense with Michael Vick, though they'll feel good about themselves thanks to their athletic pass rush. Vick should be able to dodge them and make more plays downfield as well as underneath. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Giants play a two- or three-deep zone to contain the Eagles' receivers and let them catch whatever they can across the middle. That type of game plan suggests that LeSean McCoy would have a good day. Brent Celek would too, in theory, but Vick simply isn't looking in his direction. You'll still want to roll out your Eagles receivers, obviously, since one play could land you a ton of points. Both kickers could end up helping you out this week too. | |||||

| This one will be interesting when the Broncos have the ball. Last year Kyle Orton really struggled with the Chargers, tossing two touchdowns in two games and not having a ton of time to play in either one due to either the Broncos rolling up the Bolts on special teams or the Chargers killing the game clock and forcing Orton to the sideline. San Diego's secondary is among the best in the league and it would be surprising if the Broncos came in and chucked it downfield on them. Only one quarterback -- Vince Young of all people -- has thrown multiple touchdowns against the Chargers. That list includes Tom Brady, David Garrard and Matt Schaub, who didn't throw one in Week 9. San Diego has only allowed more than 200 passing yards four times all year. The Chargers defense being rested only helps the cause. It wouldn't be a huge surprise to see Orton continue to connect with Brandon Lloyd, but everyone else on the Broncos carries some risk, including Knowshon Moreno. The Chargers also have an iffy matchup as Denver's secondary is still considered a strength. Sure, last week Matt Cassel went nuts, but it was because he attempted 53 passes and was playing from behind all game long. Philip Rivers had trouble with the Broncos last season, and that was with Vincent Jackson and a healthy Antonio Gates. We know Jackson won't play (if he's a free agent in your league you should grab him), and Gates is probably going to be a game-time decision. If you own Gates, see to it that you add Randy McMichael so you can start him in Gates' place in case Gates is ruled out on Monday evening. We do know that Malcom Floyd is expected back, and he'll help the Chargers' passing game. Granted, Rivers was able to go crazy two weeks ago using McMichael and Seyi Ajirotutu, but that was against a bad secondary. Denver will be a challenge for the Chargers' vertical attack, which is why whoever is running the ball for San Diego is worth a start. Mike Tolbert and Darren Sproles might wind up splitting reps with Ryan Mathews ailing, and if that's the case then both guys have some good value. If Mathews goes, then only Tolbert is appealing. Both kickers could be busy. | |||||
