Week 14 Top 150s

Senior Fantasy Writer
  •

Not all leagues are created equal, and not all of them have starting spots designated for Flex players. But for those that do, we offer two versions of our Top 150 rank lists: One for standard formats and one for PPR formats. You might notice some peculiar rankings here, and that's because these are based solely from my weekly projections -- not an average of multiple points of view. So if a tight end is projected to get 20 yards and a touchdown, he'll be equal to a quality running back projected for 80 total yards. Thus, use these rankings as a starting point for your weekly research and use your own judgment to determine who you should consider starting.

Week 14 highlight: Things happen fast in the NFL: One week a running back is laying on waivers with minimal attention, the next he's a must-add. That's how it goes for the likes of Tashard Choice and James Starks, both of whom had good performances in Week 13 and stand to build on them in Week 14. Choice is expected to continue splitting reps with Felix Jones in Dallas, and this week they'll take on a Philadelphia defense that has allowed 281 rush yards and two total touchdowns to opposing rushers over its last two games. Starks will also share with Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn on Sunday against a Lions run defense that's yielded four touchdowns on the ground over their last two outings. It's crunch time in the Fantasy world, but these young and hungry running backs are poised to help owners now.

Look out for our Flex rankings every Tuesday with an update every Friday throughout the season.

Jerry Jones: Tony Romo is '100 percent' healthy
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11:09 am ET) Although the Cowboys held Tony Romo out of Tuesday's practice, owner Jerry Jones said the team is just being smart with the quarterback's comeback from back surgery.

"He is 100 percent. He's 100 percent," Jones told reporters, per NFL.com. "He's just being real smart and sensitive about having come off the back surgery. He's certainly not losing any ground from the standpoint of opening up against San Francisco (in Week 1)."

Geno Atkins taken off PUP list
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10:59 am ET) The Bengals activated star defensive tackle Geno Atkins from the PUP list, as he's ready to practice. He's nine months removed from tearing his ACL.

Bucs sign Kip Edwards
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10:54 am ET) The Buccaneers signed cornerback Kip Edwards, who was most recently with the Vikings.

Steven Jackson out with hamstring injury
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10:48 am ET) Falcons running back Steven Jackson missed practice Tuesday with a hamstring injury he suffered Monday, the team announced. Coach Mike Smith provided no timetable for Jackson's return, other than to say he'll be ready for the season opener.

Smith said Jackson hurt his left hamstring; last year, Jackson was plagued by a right hamstring injury.

GM on Marshawn Lynch: 'Next man up'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10:38 am ET) Seahawks general manager John Schneider told the Seattle Times that everybody loves and respects running back Marshawn Lynch, but the team won't deviate from its longterm plan. Lynch is holding out because he's upset with his contract, which has two years remaining.

"We’re just going with our plan, and I know it’s cliché-ish but next man up," he said. "We’ve had a plan in place here for a number of years, and we can’t veer from that plan for one person because it’s the ultimate team sport."

Schneider said the plan involves making tough decisions.

"You make models two and three years out, and you have to stick to that and know that there’s going to be tough decisions along the way," he said. "We had to let guys like Red Bryant go, Chris Clemons, we weren’t able to sign Breno (Giacomini), Golden Tate. You have to be able to make those decisions along the way knowing you’ll be able to re-sign Michael Bennett and maybe there’s a free agent that comes in and fits in your bracket. It’s just one of those deals where you have to keep going about your business, and you can’t veer off of that.

"Around here we talk about what’s next, and the next person is up. That being said, last year we went through this with Brandon Browner. He had his deal, and (Byron Maxwell) got his opportunity. Hey, Marshawn Lynch is phenomenal. Phenomenal player and just a unique part of what we’ve had going on here. Two years ago we were able to redo his deal, and he was a big part of that foundation that we started here."

Vikes activate Captain Munnerlyn
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10:22 am ET) The Vikings activated cornerback Captain Munnerlyn from the PUP list. He's over his slight hamstring pull and is ready to practice.

Drops plaguing Eric Ebron
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10:14 am ET) Lions first-round pick Eric Ebron, who struggled with drops in college, has had "an inordinate number of dropped passes" through offseason workouts and the first two days of training camp, reports the Detroit Free Press. Coach Jim Caldwell says he's not concerned.

"It’s tough for any young guy that’s coming in to a system, particularly at the position he plays," Caldwell told the paper. "One thing I think people don’t quite understand about playing a tight end position, you can probably notice that he lines up in a number of different places. He lines up at a true tight end position, so he’s got to know all the blocking schemes, routes from there. He lines up at an auxiliary (position), what we can an F, so he’s got to know all the protections at that particular location as well as the routes. And then we also put him in the backfield.

"This guy literally has to know the slot receiver, the regular tight end and also a position out of the backfield as if he’s a fullback. So it’s not easy for him."

Caldwell said Ebron "has an unusual skill set" and will continue to improve.

Ronnie Hillman currently No. 2 in Denver
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10:09 am ET) The Broncos' Ronnie Hillman has "usually been the second running back up behind [Montee] Ball and has been effective so far in training camp," reports the team's website. Hillman, who's ahead of C.J. Anderson, is "hitting the holes well," the report said.

The website said there's a sizable gap between those top three backs and four newcomers trying to make the team.

David Wilson to be re-evaluated next week
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10:05 am ET) Giants running back David Wilson won't practice the rest of this week and will miss the team's preseason game Sunday vs. the Bills before getting checked out next Monday, the Bergen Record reported Wednesday. Dr. Cammisa, who performed the fusion surgery on Wilson in January, will check him out at the Hospital for Special Surgery, the Newark Star-Ledger reported

Wilson suffered a neck "burner" in practice Tuesday, an injury that deals with trauma to the neck or shoulder area that involves temporarily pain, tingling or numbness. Wilson had offseason neck fusion surgery and was cleared for training camp.

Chip Kelly says 'there's no set number' for LeSean McCoy's touches
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9:55 am ET) After totaling 366 touches last season (314 carries, 52 catches), it was presumed that the Eagles would make sure they didn't over-utilize LeSean McCoy this season. Adding Darren Sproles and keeping Chris Polk seemed to speak to that. But the Eagles' official website caught head coach Chip Kelly telling SiriusXM NFL Radio that there is no limit on McCoy.

"I don't know if there's a set number," Kelly said of McCoy's touches. "Some guys can handle it, but our strength and conditioning staff and our athletic trainers do an unbelievable job of evaluating our players weekly. There's times where I say, 'Hey, do we need to back off?' They're like, 'No, we can even go harder with him,' because all of our players are investing in themselves. They're getting the proper amount of sleep. They're eating the right way. They're doing what we've asked them to do. They understand it because they feel really good."

On those 366 touches, McCoy had a career-best 1,607 rush yards, 2,146 total yards and 11 total touchdowns (his second-best). Another big season is in store.
