Report: Sidney Rice retiring due to concussions

(3:53 pm ET) Seahawks receiver Sidney Rice is retiring due to a history of concussions, reports Pro Football Talk. He caught 243 passes for 3,592 yards and 30 touchdowns in seven seasons with Minnesota and Seattle.

Bears put Chris Conte on PUP list

Cardinals make roster moves

No contact for Von Miller until 3rd preseason game at earliest

(3:27 pm ET) Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller will be held out of contact until at least the third preseason game, reports the Denver Post. But Miller isn't starting training camp on the PUP list.

Miller is rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered Week 16.


Broncos put Chris Harris on PUP list

(3:09 pm ET) The Broncos placed cornerback Chris Harris on the PUP list as he continues to rehab from ACL surgery. Harris will visit his surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, at the end of this month for an evaluation.

Harris is aiming to return by the midway point of preseason.


Ahmad Bradshaw cleared for camp

(3:07 pm ET) Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who's coming off neck surgery, passed his physical and is cleared for training camp, reports the Indianapolis Star. He should be on the field for the first practice Thursday.

However, Bradshaw and other players returning from serious injuries will not be "thrown completely into the fire on Day 1," the paper said.


Gronk expected to be brought along slowly

(3:00 pm ET) Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski likely will be on the field for Thursday's first practice, but ESPN.com expects the team to "bring him along slowly" rather than have him go "full bore." Gronkowski tore his ACL less than seven months ago.

It will be interesting to see whether Gronkowski practices Saturday, when players put on pads for the first time, the website said.


Lane Johnson tries to explains suspension

(2:29 pm ET) Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson issued this statement about his four-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug: "In April while training, I mistakenly and foolishly put a prescribed medication in my body to help with a medical issue," Johnson began.

"I mistakenly failed to clear it with Eagles trainers and check the NFL list of banned substances. I am extremely sorry for this mistake and I will learn from it and be smarter in the future."


Bobby Rainey, Mike James not roster locks

(2:23 pm ET) With the Buccaneers drafting running back Charles Sims to pair with Doug Martin, either Bobby Rainey or Mike James "could get caught in a numbers game," reports the Tampa Tribune.

Rainey rushed for 566 yards and five touchdowns last year but averaged 3.8 yards per carry. James ran for 295 yards in nine games, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
