Week 4 Fantasy Trade Value Chart

Senior Fantasy Writer
  •

This was probably the toughest week I've ever had putting together the trade chart. We've all caught a three-week glimpse of most every player in the league. Some have disappointed, others have flourished. Some positions overperformed, others have underperformed (looking at you, running backs).

I want to stay patient with my teams (not all of my teams are 3-0, or 2-1 ... or even 1-2 ... ). But taking on a fourth loss by the fourth or even the fifth week could mean an early exit on the Fantasy season, and nobody is ready to quit playing Fantasy yet. If you're the dreaded 0-3, it's time to make a move.

Here's your checklist for trade success:

NEW Playoff Challenge Championship Edition offers one more way to play postseason Fantasy Football and compete for cash prizes. Join now before time runs out!
Join a new league!

Prepare to play fair. Only in movies and occasionally the league with a noobie are decidedly lopsided trades made. Everyone would love to trade Stevan Ridley for DeSean Jackson, but it just doesn't happen. Make trade offers that are fair. Don't "start out" with a ridiculous offer -- make your first offer your best one. The chart can help you with that.

Find the depth on your roster. Basically find the position you're not weak at. Then find someone in your league who is weak at that position. Find players you like on his roster. Discuss a deal.

Trade away a player coming off a week or two of surprising success. We're all suckers for numbers. Anyone on your roster who has beat expectations for the past game or two should have high value and might bring in a player with a better pedigree but not necessarily the stats to back it up. "Selling high" is a smart way to exceed value in trades.

Examples of trades from actual CBSSports.com leagues:
Darren McFadden for Dez Bryant
DeMarco Murray for Arian Foster
Giovani Bernard and Steve Johnson for Calvin Johnson

Trade for disappointing players. That's right, go after guys who stink! But not just any guys -- just the ones with unmet high expectations. That's because those poor performers still have a chance to rebound and help you out. Remember, everyone has only played three games. There's plenty of time left for adjustments and tweaks to make these guys good.

My short list of players who have disappointed but I'd still trade for: Marques Colston, Pierre Garcon, T.Y. Hilton, Lamar Miller, Stevan Ridley, Steve Smith, C.J. Spiller, David Wilson

The best part of trading for these guys is that their owners want nothing to do with them. They'll give them up for cheap. The people who drafted these underachievers don't even want the headache of making a lineup decision -- they'll gladly ship them off. I believe every single name listed above has a good chance to help Fantasy owners out within the next three or four weeks.

Examples of trades from actual CBSSports.com leagues:
David Wilson and Kenny Stills for Colin Kaepernick
Stevan Ridley for Bilal Powell
Stevan Ridley for Julian Edelman
Lamar Miller and Pierre Thomas for Joique Bell and Kenbrell Thompkins
Lamar Miller for Pierre Garcon
C.J. Spiller and Michael Floyd for Andre Johnson and Chris Ivory
C.J. Spiller and Stevan Ridley for DeAngelo Williams and Steve Johnson

Be willing to part with your studs. Even if you have a first-round pick who has been underperforming (we all know who they are), someone will take them and someone will not ship you junk for them. Players like Trent Richardson and C.J. Spiller were top picks for a reason and the better teams in your league will pay for them with at least two players you can plug into your lineup right away.

Examples of trades from actual CBSSports.com leagues:
C.J. Spiller for Chris Johnson and Le'Veon Bell
Trent Richardson for Wes Welker and DeAngelo Williams
Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw for Pierre Garcon and DeMarco Murray

Keep an eye on the medical reports. This isn't really trade advice but it is roster advice: A lot of players are sidelined with injuries but expected back later this year. Most of these guys figure to be impact players, people who can help your Fantasy lineup a lot. They can also be intriguing trade pieces before they even suit up. This is an easy way to improve your roster, though there's timing involved. No one will trade anything for a player expected to miss a chunk of time.

Players who are expected back from an injury:
Andre Brown, RB, Giants (expected back Week 10)
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers (expected back Week 7)
Shane Vereen, RB, Patriots (expected back Week 11)
Michael Crabtree, WR, 49ers (expected back Week 12)
Percy Harvin, WR, Seahawks (expected back Week 13)

Steven Jackson also qualifies to be on this list (should be back by Week 7) but you can still pull off something good in trade for him.

Our Trade Value Chart is designed to assist you in making fair trades in your standard-scoring or PPR league. The values assigned to the players below are a long-term measurement of their Fantasy value. By adding two players' values you could determine what one player you might be able to get in return. This list should also work as a "Rest of Season" Rankings.

Report: Colts, Dolphins going after Ndamukong Suh in free agency
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2015) The Colts and Dolphins are expected to try their best to land soon-to-be free agent Ndamukong Suh when the new league year begins on March 10, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports.

Suh will be the most sought-after free agent once the period begins. The report also states the Dolphins are currently in the lead, with the Lions and Colts close behind at this time.

Teams can begin negotiating with agents during a legal tampering period that begins Saturday.

In 2014, Suh recorded 53 total tackles and 8 1/2 sacks.

Overton tweeted on his personal account that he will be with the Colts for another four years. In three seasons with the Colts, Overton has appeared in 48 games and has made 22 special teams tackles.

He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2013.

Police: Panthers' Cam Newton not person of interest in shooting
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2015) Police stated Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is not a person of interest in a shooting at a Charlotte, N.C. nightclub, according to the Associated Press.

Newton was photographed at Label nightclub on stage with rapper Young Jeezy last weekend before gunshots were fired into a crowd. Two people sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the gunfire.

In a video obtained by Charlotte's WSOC TV, Newton is spotted partying at the venue before he, along with the rest of the party's attendants, ducked when shots were fired

Adrian Peterson pleased with Vikings meeting, still has concerns
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2015) Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was appreciative of the Vikings front office's visit on Wednesday, he said in a statement to ESPN's Josina Anderson

However, Peterson also alluded to some issues that needed to be hashed out between both parties.

"I appreciate [general manager] Rick [Spielman] and Coach [Mike] Zimmer coming down to see me today," Peterson said. "We had a great dialogue and they were able to understand where I was coming from and concerns my family and I still have. We respect each other and hopefully the situation can pan out so that everyone involved is content."

Peterson was moved back to the Commissioner's Exempt list after U.S. District Judge David Doty ruled an NFL arbitrator should not have upheld a suspension that would last until April 15. The NFL has appealed this ruling.

With Peterson on the Commissioner's Exempt list, the Vikings are able to have communication with him.

The Vikings have publicly expressed a desire to have Peterson back in 2015. Peterson has had reservations about wanting to return to Minnesota.

Peterson only played in one game during the 2014 season. Following a child abuse allegation, Peterson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault on his son.

Report: 49ers shopping linebacker Michael Wilhoite
(3/4/2015) The 49ers are looking to trade linebacker Michael Wilhoite, according to The Sacramento Bee. The team is looking to obtain a sixth- or seventh-round pick in exchange for the former undrafted free agent, per a league source.

Wilhoite, 28, filled in when starters Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman were sidelined with injuries last season. He started all 16 games for the first time in his career in 2014. He tallied career-highs with 87 total tackles, six passes defensed and two interceptions.

Report: Bills' Rex Ryan wanted to trade Kiko Alonso upon arrival
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2015) From his first day as the Bills head coach, Rex Ryan was looking to trade linebacker Kiko Alonso, according to a report from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

One of the first things Ryan wanted to do with the Bills, the report states, was trade Alonso. On Tuesday, CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora confirmed the Eagles and Bills had a plan in place to swap Alonso for running back LeSean McCoy. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the story.

It's a strange revelation considering Alonso's stellar 2013 season as a rookie, when he totaled 159 tackles and four interceptions. However, he's coming off of an ACL tear that was sustained last offseason.

Without Alonso in 2014, the Bills were still able to finish fourth in the NFL in yards allowed per game at 312.2 per game.

Report: Giants LB Jacquian Williams to become free agent
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2015) Giants linebacker Jacquian Williams will become a free agent on March 10, according to a report from the New York Daily News

A concussion limited Williams to just nine games in 2014. In those games, he recorded 78 tackles and three pass deflections.

Report: Cowboys sign LB Keith Rivers
(3/4/2015) The Cowboys signed linebacker Keith Rivers to a one-year deal for the veteran minimum Wednesday, DallasCowboys.com reports.

Rivers, 28, played three seasons with the Bengals after being selected ninth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft before missing the 2011 season with an injury. He went on to play for the Giants and the Bills, but spent just one year in Buffalo, making the Cowboys his third team in three seasons. He started a career-low three games during his one season with the Bills in 2014.

Report: Giants talks with Antrel Rolle not productive
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2015) It doesn't look like safety Antrel Rolle will be with the Giants next season.

According to the New York Daily News, contract negotiations between the two parties haven't gone well. Rolle doesn't want to come back for much less than the $7 million he earned for each of the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

It's also possible that Rolle winds up with the Dolphins, the report states.

Rolle recorded 87 tackles and three interceptions in 2014.
