Chiefs, Alex Smith agree to four-year extension

(8/31/2014) With just a week before the start of the regular season, the Chiefs and quarterback Alex Smith agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $68 million, with $45 million guaranteed, according to the Kansas City Star on Sunday.

Smith, 30, was acquired from San Francisco in a March 2013 trade. He threw for a career-high 3,313 yards and 23 touchdowns, leading his team to an 11-5 campaign in 2013.


Cards claim Thomas Keiser, waive Walt Powell

Keiser had 4.5 sacks and 20 tackles in 12 games last season.

Minnesota released linebacker Larry Dean and offensive tackle Austin Wentworth.
