'Don't be shocked' if Josh Gordon sues NFL
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2:46 pm ET) Pro Football Talk reports Browns receiver Josh Gordon will decide in the next day or two whether to sue the league over his one-year suspension. "Don't be shocked if he sues." Any lawsuit would include a request to block the suspension pending the outcome of the case, the report said.

Arbitrator Harold Henderson last week upheld the suspension, which stems from a repeat offense of the league's substance abuse policy.

Jordan Mills expected to face Bills
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2:21 pm ET) Bears right tackle Jordan Mills, who's coming back from offseaosn foot surgery, is expected to play Sunday when Chicago hosts the Bills, reports ESPN.com. Mills was held out of all preseason games as the team "took a conservative approach" with his rehab, the report said.

Montee Ball to get heavy workload Week 1
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2:12 pm ET) Broncos running back Montee Ball allayed any concerns about his health in the third preseason game. Nineteen days after undergoing an appendectomy, Ball touched the ball on Denver's first five plays from scrimmage. He got eight touches on the opening drive versus Houston and emerged "none the worse for the wear," per the team's website.

Ball is primed for a heavy workload Sunday night. For one thing, primary backup Ronnie Hillman is not 100 percent. Hillman came down with an undisclosed illness late last week and was taken to a hospital. He returned to practice Monday but was limited.

Ball averaged a healthy 4.7 yards per carry as a rookie, but his finish was especially impressive. After losing a fumble Week 12 at New England, Ball averaged 5.4 yards over his final 73 carries and earned trust as a pass protector.

Ball's strong finish convinced the Broncos to let Knowshon Moreno go. They didn't bring in anyone to challenge Ball.

His first start comes against a Colts defense that ranked 26th in Fantasy points allowed to running backs (19.78) last year. Consider Ball a borderline top-5 option.

Kyle Van Noy could miss eight games
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1:16 pm ET) Lions rookie linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who underwent sports hernia surgery last week, is a candidate for short-term injured reserve, reports MLive.com. That designation would sideline him for at least eight games.

Teams can begin assigning players to short-term IR on Tuesday.
