Josh Gordon will appeal his one-year ban
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9:34 am ET) Josh Gordon plans to appeal a one-year suspension with NFL officials on August 1, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Gordon faces a year-long ban due to a failed drug test earlier this offseason. It's the third failed drug test he's had since entering the league in 2012.

Gordon was also arrested and charged with suspicion of DWI in North Carolina earlier this month.

The Browns troubled receiver broke out in a major way in 2013, posting 87 catches for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns despite playing with a merry-go-round of mediocre quarterbacks.

Gruden: Robert Griffin III won't run as much
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9:26 am ET) Redskins coach Jay Gruden told NFL Network Thursday morning that quarterback Robert Griffin III won't have as many designed runs as he had in his first two years in the league, but that he does have the green light to scramble when necessary.

"As far as him running in the pocket, quarterbacks make those decisions, not me," Gruden explained. "On game day, it's hard for me to tell them, 'Stay in the pocket -- don't scramble!' But we'll have some designed plays where we get him outside, let him use his legs, obviously it would be stupid not to."

Gruden did add that RG3 has made "some serious strides" this spring in knowing when to throw and when to bail out of a pass play and run.

Report: Starting Jets QB job is Geno Smith's to lose
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9:21 am ET) The starting Jets quarterback job is second-year quarterback Geno Smith's to lose, the New York Daily News reports. It is believed that the only way Michael Vick will end up starting for Gang Green is if Smith stumbles in training camp.

Vick claims he still feels like a "premiere" quarterback but the team is committed to Smith so long as he earns it in camp.

Falcons give Roddy White a contract extension
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(8:26 am ET) The Falcons announced a four-year extension for receiver Roddy White on Thursday. It should keep him with the team for the rest of his career.

White, 32, had a down year in 2013 because he tried to play through a high-ankle sprain. But he finished the season strong with 43 catches for 502 yards and two scores in his last five games. He's expected to keep up that kind of production this season as part of the team's one-two punch at receiver alongside Julio Jones.

Andre Williams shining early
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2014) Giants rookie running back Andre Williams impressed coaches at Wednesday's practice and continued to be used in goal-line packages, reports the team's website. Williams "is a rookie, he’s got a lot of burst, a lot of energy and he’s very fresh, so I was excited about what he did," running backs coach Craig Johnson said.

Williams is trying to carve out a niche in a backfield that includes Rashad Jennings, David Wilson and Peyton Hillis.

Jameel McClain returns to full practice
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2014) Giants linebacker Jameel McClain, who left Tuesday's practice with a foot problem, was a full participant Wednesday. "He did well," coach Tom Coughlin said. "He came out and practiced and went the whole practice, so I think he’s fine. A little sore, but he was able to go."

McClain is vying to start at middle linebacker while Jon Beason (foot) is out.

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
