Kenbrell Thompkins off to another fast start
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3:07 pm ET) Patriots receiver Kenbrell Thompkins is off to a fast start for the second straight training camp, reports the Boston Globe. The second-year pro "caught nearly everything thrown his way" Thursday, the paper said, highlighted by "a pair of beautiful touchdown receptions where he had to climb the ladder to make an overhead catch in the back corner of the end zone on a fade route."

Thompkins burst onto the scene as an undrafted free agent last year, then failed to live up to the expectations he generated. He finished with 32 catches for 466 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games.

According to the paper, Thompkins is battling second-year wideout Josh Boyce, rookie Jeremy Gallon and several undrafted rookies for one or two roster spots.

Trent Richardson had chipped collarbone, separated AC joint
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2:56 pm ET) Colts running back Trent Richardson revealed Thursday that he played last season with a chipped collarbone and a separated AC joint, reports ESPN.com. The AC joint is where the collarbone meets the shoulder.

"Toward the end of the season I felt a lot more comfortable, but the other time I was more injured," said Richardson, who had offseason shoulder surgery.

Coach Chuck Pagano said Richardson not only is healthier, but has a much better grasp of the playbook this year.

"He’s a lot more comfortable," Pagano said. "Basically it was survival for him at first, memorization. Now he has a better understanding scheme-wise, why we’re doing things, why we’re calling certain things, how we run plays. He has a better feel for guys he’s playing with, the line, guy in front of him, the fullback. He’s obviously in a much better place."

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2:38 pm ET) Jaguars owner Shad Kahn said the team won't cut suspended receiver Justin Blackmon, who was charged with marijuana possession Wednesday in Oklahoma, reports the Florida Times-Union.

"We want to keep him as a player," Khan said. "He's not a part of the team now, obviously, but it's very important for him to get the help. It's the most important thing."

Blackmon is suspended indefinitely and is banned from being around the team or the Jaguars' facility. "We want him to get help and really beat this," Kahn said.
