Bills RB LeSean McCoy out Wednesday with neck injury
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(11:58 am ET) Bills running back LeSean McCoy did not take part in OTAs Wednesday due to a neck injury that wasn't deemed serious, per ESPN.com.

McCoy sat out team drills, partially because Bills coach Rex Ryan did not want to take any chances during this early stage of the season. "We don't need him out there," Ryan said.

Cowboys LB Rolando McClain recovering from knee surgery
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(11:49 am ET) Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain is not at OTAs as he remains at home in Alabama recovering from knee surgery, coach Jason Garrett told reporters Wednesday.

McClain experienced a rebirth with the Cowboys after twice previously retiring from football. He registered 81 tackles (65 solo), one sack and two interceptions in 13 games, although he did battle knee issues during the season.

The Cowboys are unsure of McClain's status going forward.

Report: Redskins release CB Tracy Porter
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(11:29 am ET) Oft-injured cornerback Tracy Porter was released by the Redskins on Wednesday, per The Washington Post. Porter was not at the start of OTAs on Tuesday due to a missed flight.

The corner did not see much action in Washington after signing a two-year, $6 million contract, appearing in just two games due to shoulder issues. His release will save the Redskins $2.2 million against the salary cap.

Porter has 10 interceptions over seven NFL seasons with the Saints, Broncos, Raiders and Redskins.

Report: Redskins to release G Chris Chester
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(10:55 am ET) According to a report from ESPN's Adam Caplan, the Redskins are preparing to release guard Chris Chester, who has started 64 consecutive games with the team.

Chester, who signed as a free agent with Washington in 2011, was scheduled to make $3.5 million in base salary this season. The move opens the door for Spencer Long to take over at the guard position.

Cowboys T Laurence Gibson (finger) undergoes surgery
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(10:09 am ET) Cowboys seventh-round pick Laurence Gibson underwent surgery on a broken finger and will not take part in either OTAs or mini-camp as he tries to make the roster as a tackle, per the Dallas Morning-News

Gibson, who went to Virginia Tech, is expected to be ready for July's training camp.

Charles Godfrey making strides at safety for Falcons
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(9:55 am ET) Charles Godfrey didn't make much of an impact during his first season with the Falcons after seven years with the Panthers, but under new coach Dan Quinn, Godfrey has the inside track on earning the free safety position, according to the team's website.

Godfrey has the size and speed reminiscent to Seahawks safety Earl Thomas, and the Falcons, with former Hawks DC Quinn as coach, will play a similar, aggressive pass defense.

"(I have the) ability to get to the ball and to make plays when I get to the ball," Godfrey said. "Also, my ability to see the whole field. I have a long ways to go; I'm far from there. But the good thing is we're going to keep watching film and keep pushing."

Godfrey has 11 career interceptions, but none since 2012.

Redskins RB Alfred Morris ready for power running game
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(9:44 am ET) Running back Alfred Morris has excelled during his first three seasons in the NFL, and this year, the Redskins' back is eager to get the ball as the team transitions from a zone-blocking scheme to a power style, per ESPN.com.

The strategy requires less cutting and more downhill running, something Morris, who has rushed for nearly 4,000 yards, is familiar with from his time in college.

"I feel I'm better at downhill plays anyway," he said. "You know what's coming. It's a knockout, drag-out style of play. I don't shy away from contact. It's right up my alley. I thoroughly enjoy it."

Seahawks DT Jesse Williams to have kidney surgery Thursday
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(5/26/2015) Seahawks defensive tackle Jesse Williams is scheduled to have kidney surgery on Thursday, the team announced.

This surgery will take place 10 days after he was diagnosed with Papillary Type 2 cancer.

"He’s a battler all the way," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "He’s been up against it, too. He’s fought some difficult fights, and he’s fighting another one - maybe the fight of a young man’s life.

"We’ll be there with him and hope to pull him through.”

Seahawks' Lemuel Jeanpierre with first team, not Patrick Lewis
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(5/26/2015) The Seahawks worked in a new first-team center on Tuesday and it wasn't the one projected to fill Max Unger's vacant spot.

According to ESPN.com, Lemuel Jeanpierre worked with the first team during Tuesday's OTA practice. Patrick Lewis, who many projected to be the front-runner for the job, worked in as Jeanpierre's backup.

After practice, coach Pete Carroll said Jeanpierre earned the opportunity to begin OTAs as the first-team center.

Jeanpierre has been with the Seahawks since 2011 and Lewis joined the squad a year ago. Jeanpierre has 11 career starts and Lewis has four, all of which happened with Seattle in 2014.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman opens OTAs as starter
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(5/26/2015) The Falcons opened OTAs with running back Devonta Freeman getting the nod with the first team, according to ESPN.com

Freeman is entering his second year in the NFL, though there is a lot of buzz surrounding rookie draft choice Tevin Coleman out of Indiana. Though Freeman is the technical starter for now, it should be an open competition between these two and Antone Smith this August.
