Lyle Sendlein
News
The Cardinals have nine players listed on the injury report for Week 3. Punter David Zastudil (groin) and linebacker Alex Okafor (thigh) were the only players officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Deemed questionable were tight end Rob Housler (hip), defensive tackle Frostee Rucker (calf) and quarterback Carson Palmer (shoulder).

Linebacker Kevin Minter (quad), center Lyle Sendlein (ankle), running back Andre Ellington (foot) and linebacker Larry Foote (shoulder) were each ruled probable for Sunday.
Darnell Dockett
News
The Cardinals DST finished sixth in Fantasy points last season while ranking first against the run. This is not that defense.

Arizona lost defensive tackle Darnell Dockett (torn ACL) and linebackers Karlos Dansby (free agency) and Daryl Washington (suspension), among others. That trio accounted for 14 sacks, six interceptions, two touchdowns and a fumble recovery. Linebacker John Abraham (11.5 sacks) reported late to camp following a DUI arrest and at age 36 is unlikely to repeat his 2013 production.

The Cardinals are counting on 34-year-old Larry Foote and unproven Kevin Minter at linebacker. Safety Tyrann Mathieu (knee) is not 100 percent yet. Arizona did add corner Antonio Cromartie to team with superstar Patrick Peterson.

Monday night, Arizona hosts an efficient Chargers' team that gave up the eighth-fewest Fantasy points (7.3 per game) to DSTs last year. Consider the Cardinals DST a low-end starting option at best.

Daryl Washington
News
Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has been suspended for the entire 2014 season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He was suspended four games last season for violating the same policy.

"It's completely unacceptable that Daryl has once again put us in this position," Cards general manager Steve Keim said in a statement. "We all know what the consequences are and will deal with them. From a personal standpoint, our hope is that this suspension will give Daryl the opportunity to accept the necessary help and guidance to get his life back on track and we will certainly support him however we can."

Washington had 134 total tackles and nine sacks in 2012 and 75 total hits and three sacks in 12 games last season.

Ted Larsen
News
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday that there's a "really good chance" offensive lineman Ted Larsen will be the team's starting left guard, azcardinals.com reports.

Jonathan Cooper, a first-round pick in 2013, was set to start at the position, but he has remained sidelined with a turf toe injury. General manager Steve Keim called Larsen one of the team's best five linemen in camp thus far. He has been filling in at center with Lyle Sendlein out, but Larsen will likely shift to the left guard position of Sendlein can return to practice as expected this week.

Taylor did seem more work than usual in the running game, gaining 40 yards on 12 attempts. Taylor managed to pick up a rushing touchdown, though he probably shouldn't have. Andre Ellington was the workhorse on the drive, picking up 76 of the 80 yards on the drive. After seven straight plays with the ball, Ellington needed on breather. On the next play, Taylor ran in a touchdown from 4 yards out.

He'll take on the Eagles Week 8.

He'll take on the Eagles Week 8.

News

Patrick Peterson
News
Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson is dissatisfied with his performance this season. The NFL's highest paid player at his position believes the scrutiny comes with the territory.

"Is that something I might shy away from?" he asked per the team website. "Not at all. Is that something I'm scared of? Am I worried about the concerns or the criticisms? Not at all. We have 11 more games to go. I have a lot of games left to improve, because I do believe I am not playing to the best of my ability right now. That's definitely going to change."

Peterson was upset with one particular play -- the slant to Washington wideout DeSean Jackson last week that resulted in a 64-yard touchdown. Peterson admitted that he did not get his head around fast enough to make a play on the ball.

His opportunity to perform better the rest of the year begins Sunday in Oakland.

News
Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer threw two touchdowns Week 7 against the Raiders.

Palmer completed 22 of 31 attempts for 253 yards and two scores. He was consistently able to find his targets down the field, posting 8.2 yards per attempt. It wasn't all perfect, as Palmer turned the ball over once on an interception, and took one sack. For the most part, though, Palmer was solid. He was able to find Andre Ellington on shorter gains, while also hitting Michael Floyd and John Brown on longer plays.

Palmer will look for more Week 8 against the Eagles.

Andre Ellington
News
Fantasy owners don't have much cause to complain about Cardinals running back Andre Ellington, not after the all-around performance he had Week 7 at Oakland, leading the team not only in rushing with 88 yards on 24 carries but also receiving with 72 yards on six catches.

But of course, many will complain because he didn't meet the gold standard of Fantasy greatness: He didn't score a touchdown. Even worse, he could have scored a touchdown (and maybe two) if not for the presence of Stepfan Taylor, who scored one on a 2-yard catch in the first quarter and another on a 4-yard run in the third.

It's an unfortunate development, to be sure. The Cardinals ran four plays from inside the 5-yard line on two separate drives, and Taylor got the ball on all of them. But it's not entirely unexpected either. Ellington has always been seen as a big-play guy, not a grinder.

The good news is that Ellington's touches continue to rise. He went from 20 in Week 5 to 25 in Week 6 to 30 here in Week 7, so the Cardinals are using him as much as they promised coming into the year. And with his big-play ability, enough of those touches will end in the end zone to keep you satisfied.

And hey, now you know who to handcuff to him. You'll want to add Taylor if only for that purpose.

Kerwynn Williams
News
The Cardinals have cut running back Chris Rainey from the practice squad and signed former Colts back Kerwynn Williams to take that spot.

Rainey has experienced a drop in his career since playing in all 16 games with Pittsburgh in 2012 and rushing for 102 yards on 26 carries.

Drew Butler
News
The Cardinals placed punter Dave Zastudil (groin) on injured reserve and promoted punter Drew Butler from the practice squad. Arizona also re-signed linebacker Marcus Benard and added quarterback Dennis Dixon to the practice squad.
Logan Thomas
News
Cardinals QB Carson Palmer practiced Wednesday, with the club hopeful he can return from an nerve injury in his right (throwing) shoulder, which has kept him out the past three games.

He threw at Wednesday's workout, but there are questions about whether he can go Sunday vs. Washington.

AzCardinals.com reported the club hopes he can practice fully Thursday or Friday. At the same time, Palmer said he will likely fly back to Denver on Friday afternoon to revisit the MAT (Muscle Activation Technique) work he was put through when he went there last weekend.

That would not preclude Palmer from playing, the team site reported. But it speaks to the uncertainty he and the team is going through with his injury.

“I just have to be able to throw a ball,” Palmer said. “Let loose and throw it hard. That’s basically it.”

Logan Thomas, who relieved injured backup Drew Stanton last Sunday at Denver, took the first team snaps Wednesday. Stanton also practiced Wednesday.

Rashad Johnson
News
Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson intercepted two passes Sunday, returning one for a touchdown in his team's 30-20 win over the Redskins in Week 6.

Johnson came to play in the fourth quarter Sunday, returning his first interception 30 yards to stop a drive in Cardinals territory before sealing the game with a 28-yard interception return for touchdown with less than 30 seconds remaining. The picks were his first of the season, and he also managed eight total tackles in Week 6. He'll face a rookie-led Raiders offense in Week 7.

Calais Campbell
News
The Cardinals have made RB Marion Grice, LB Desmond Bishop, LB Thomas Keiser, LB Glenn Carson, DT Bruce Gaston, TE Troy Niklas and DE Calais Campbell inactive Week 7 against the Raiders.

Both Niklas and Campbell had been ruled out prior to the contest. Carson was considered questionable due to an ankle injury.

Injury
Knee - Missed Week 7 at Oakland
Michael Floyd
News
Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd hauled in a score Week 7 against the Raiders.

Floyd didn't have a huge game, but made his presence felt. He hauled in three catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. Floyd's touchdown happened to come on his biggest play of the game. In the second quarter, Carson Palmer found Floyd 33 yards down the field for the long score. Floyd would catch just one more ball during the contest, but would lose a yard.

He'll look for more Week 8 against the Eagles.

Ed Stinson
News
The Cardinals signed three draft picks to four-year contracts: fourth-round quarterback Logan Thomas (Virginia Tech), fifth-round defensive lineman Ed Stinson (Alabama) and sixth-round receiver Walt Powell (Murray State).
Sam Acho
News
The Cardinals lost two players to season-ending injuries Week 3 at New Orleans. Linebackers Sam Acho (leg) and Lorenzo Alexander (foot) are headed for season-ending injured reserve after getting hurt Sunday.
Robert Hughes
News
The Cardinals backup runners played a small role Week 5.

Stepfan Taylor received just one carry for 6 yards during the contest. Robert Hughes also had a carry, but did not gain any yards on the play. Neither player was targeted in the pass game. Both players will take on Washington Week 6.

Jared Veldheer
News
The addition of Jared Veldheer and the return of left guard Jonathan Cooper should make life easier for the Cardinals when they game plan versus opponents this season. Offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin admits that the right side of the line will involve a competition but overall he anticipates a huge jump in efficiency for the front five

" ... [T]he world knows we're looking to put the right side together. There is going to be great competition between Paul Fanaika and Ted Larsen and Earl (Watford)," Goodwin told the Arizona Republic. "Then you have Bobby (Massie), Bradley (Sowell) and along with Nate (Potter). The competition is going to be great and there is still the possibility of the draft, but who knows? It wasn't a great offensive line year last year, but the guys played consistently together and they got better as they went along."
