In signing the tender, Hardy gives up the ability to hold out of training camp without being fined $30,000 per day, since he's under contract.

"I just don't want to see eight, nine guys in the box week in and week out because we're working on our timing," Williams said.

Tavarres King
News
The Panthers have let their top four receivers depart, leaving quarterback Cam Newton with an extremely inexperienced group of wideouts. Tavarres King and Marvin McNutt sit atop the depth chart. Neither has caught an NFL pass.

Top free agent receivers, including hometown favorite Hakeem Nicks, signed elsewhere, though James Jones remains available. Look for Carolina to select multiple receivers in the draft.

At least Newton has tight end Greg Olsen returning. He led the team with 73 catches for 816 yards and six touchdowns last year.

Quintin Mikell
News
Panthers safety Quintin Mikell is out for the game.

Mikell was injured just before halftime, and was initially ruled questionable to return. He was re-evaluated during halftime, and it was determined he would not return.

Byron Bell
News
The Panthers are reportedly fine with having Byron Bell at left tackle, replacing the retired Jordan Gross. Bell played right tackle last season and was less than stellar, but ESPN reports the Panthers are confident in Bell on the left side because it's where he plaed his college ball. Plus the team might have pursued free agent tackles like Anthony Collins a little bit harder if they didn't believe in Bell.

ProFootballFocus.com rated Bell as their 34th-best offensive tackle out of 43 qualifiers who played at least 75 percent of their teams snaps.
