Cedric Peerman
News
Bengals wide receiver Andrew Hawkins had a big 34-yard catch to set up the team's sixth and final touchdown Week 16 against the Vikings, but he was a relatively small contributor on the day, finishing with three catches for 37 yards.

Likewise, running back Cedric Peerman had two carries for 6 yards, and quarterback Josh Johnson, who spelled starter Andy Dalton late in a blowout win, had four carries for 3 yards.

Mike Pollak
News
The Bengals put center Mike Pollak (knee) on the PUP list. Once healthy, Pollak will battle rookie Russell Bodine for the starting job.
Mohamed Sanu
News
Bengals receivers coach James Urban hopes to handle receiver Mohamed Sanu better this season, reports ESPN.

"Mo's a good football player," Urban said. "I asked too much of him last year. I spread him thin. It's sort of the old thing where too much of a good thing is just as good as not enough. That's a shame on me."

Sanu finished 2013 with 47 catches for 455 yards and two touchdowns. He will open this season as the No. 3 receiver behind A.J. Green and Marvin Jones.

Conner Vernon
News
The Browns signed defensive back Jamoris Slaughter, linebacker Justin Staples, receiver Conner Vernon, wideout Tori Gurley, defensive back T.J. Heath, defensive end Cam Henderson and offensive lineman Jeremiah Warren to reserve/futures contracts.

The Bengals made a pair of roster moves Tuesday. The promoted linebacker J.K. Schaffer from from the practice squad and released DeQuin Evans, who just finished serving an eight-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.

Bengals defensive back Reggie Nelson had a big game in Week 11 against the Browns, in a 41-20 win.

Nelson finished third on the team with nine tackles, and was also one of three Bengals to intercept Browns quarterback Jason Campbell. It was his second interception of the season.

Tanner Hawkinson
News
The Bengals have made RB Rex Burkhead, CB Terence Newman, OT Tanner Hawkinson, WR Ryan Whalen, WR Dane Sanzenbacher, DT Ogemdi Nwagbuo and TE Kevin Brock inactive against the Chargers.

Newman is the only player on the list who was on the injury report. He was doubtful due to a knee injury. The other six players are healthy scratches.

Geno Atkins
News
Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins, who's coming back from a torn ACL, should be ready for the season opener, defensive coordinator Paul Guenther told the Cincinnati Enquirer. Coach Marvin Lewis said the team will keep Atkins on the PUP list for a few days of training camp "to get a look at him," suggesting Atkins could be ready to practice soon.
Injury
Knee - PUP. Questionable for start of regular season
Danieal Manning
News
Newly-signed Danieal Manning could start at safety for the Bengals opposite Reggie Nelson, reports the team's website. An eight-year vet who'll turn 32 in training camp, Manning also could handle some kickoff returns.

“I am not going to lie, one reason that played a part in me coming here was I had seen the role that they had continuing to knock on the playoff door," said Manning, who spent the last three seasons with the Texans.

"I had seen this was a team that I would potentially love to play with if I ever had the opportunity to come to free agency. My prayers were answered. I’m just ecstatic and elated to be a part of the organization.”

A.J. Green
News
Bengals receiver A.J. Green has gained 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three years and scored 29 touchdowns over that span. But he doesn't feel like he's played his best yet, reports ESPN.

"If you're a great athlete, I feel like you'll think you always left something [on the table]," Green said. "I feel like I still haven't reached my peak yet."

Green had 98 catches for 1,426 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2013. If he has yet to reach his peak then the rest of the league could be in trouble this year.

Green expects new offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to push him to new heights this season.

"He's never satisfied with where I am," Green said of Jackson. "That's one thing about him. No matter what I do or what I've accomplished these first three years, there's always more I can do. I remember when the [NFL Network's] Top 100 came out and I was the No. 2 receiver, he said, 'OK, let's go be No. 1.'"

Clint Boling
News
Bengals starting guard Clint Boling had "a seamless offseason" of rehab following his Week 13 ACL tear, reports the team's website. Boling expects to be ready early in training camp and to start Week 1.

"I definitely think I’ll be ready for the regular season," he said. "I really think I can go the first day of camp, but if not it won’t be too long after that. It went really well. We just never had a setback, we got the range of motion back early, and there was never much swelling."

Colin Lockett
News
The Bengals have moved seven players -- defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi, guard Clint Boling, punter Kevin Huber, receiver Colin Lockett, cornerback Onterio McCalebb, guard Mike Pollak and cornerback Leon Hall to the active roster. They had all previously been on the PUP or NFI lists.
Trey Hopkins

Wallace Gilberry
News
Bengals OL Kyle Cook and DE Wallace Gilberry are active against the Chargers.

Cook is dealing with a foot injury, and was able to practice in full Friday. Gilberry has a concussion, but was also able to practice in full Friday.

Dre Kirkpatrick
News
Fantasy owners might have to wait, potentially a long time, to see large stat contributions from Darqueze Dennard . The fit is pretty good with the Bengals, who have long assembled a cornerback army to help against opposing offenses. But Dennard's rise to the starting lineup is blocked with veterans like Leon Hall, Terence Newman, Adam Jones and Dre Kirkpatrick. The coaches even compared Dennard's game to Hall's, who has been the best Bengals corner for a while.

In time, those guys will clear out and Dennard will play a bunch, but until then his stats won't be great. We'd pass on Dennard in seasonal leagues and would spend only a late-round pick on him in dynasty/keeper formats. He's only worth a late-round pick in rookie-only drafts, too.

T.J. Johnson
News
The Bengals signed receiver Cobi Hamilton, centers T.J. Johnson and Scott Wedige, defensive end David King, cornerback Onterio McCalebb and linebacker Bruce Taylor to reserve/futures contracts.
Brandon Tate
News
The Bengals re-signed receiver/returner Brandon Tate, reports Yahoo Sports. He averaged 26.1 yards on kickoff returns and 9.3 yards on punt returns last year.
Darqueze Dennard
News
The Bengals on Thursday signed cornerback Darqueze Dennard of Michigan State, their first-round selection at No. 24 overall in the NFL Draft.

"He's been everything we hoped he would be to this point," coach Marvin Lewis said. "He's a great talent. He played in a big-time pressure defense at Michigan State, and he's not afraid to be out there (in coverage) by himself. And as we knew he would, he conducts himself every day as a mature pro who wants to get better every day."

Dennard was the winner of the Thorpe Award in 2013, which is given annually to college football's top defensive back.

Asked whether Dennard is considered a possible first-year starter, defensive backs coach Vance Joseph said: "Starting a rookie at corner, it depends on the person. Darqueze is a very mature person. He's an achiever also. From high school to college, he's been a winner. His personality, his skill set, I would feel fine starting him. But he's got to earn it."

Dontay Moch
News
The Bengals claimed defensive lineman Dontay Moch off of waivers from the Cardinals on Friday, bringing him back for his second go-round with the team. He had one sack in 13 games with the Cardinals last year and was cut earlier this week. Moch is a former third-round draft choice of the Bengals.
Christo Bilukidi
Mike Nugent
News
Bengals kicker Mike Nugent had one field goal attempt against the Chargers.

Nugent hit his only attempt, kicking a 46 yard field goal just before half-time. The bengals were limited offensively, and only scored one more time. Nugent kicked an extra point, but was otherwise quiet all game.

Marvin Jones
News
Bengals receiver Marvin Jones was placed on the PUP list with an ankle injury Monday, but it's just a tweak and he's expected to practice this week, reports Pro Football Talk. The Bengals open training camp Thursday.

Jones is considered day-to-day. He suffered the injury at a passing camp arranged by quarterback Andy Dalton, the report said.

Injury
Ankle - NFI. Probable for start of regular season
Onterio McCalebb
Alex Smith
News
The Bengals on Tuesday re-signed tight end Alex Smith , who had become an unrestricted free agent when his 2013 Cincinnati contract expired.

Smith is a 10th-year NFL player in 2014, in his second season with Cincinnati. He joined the Bengals as an unrestricted free agent from Cleveland for 2013 and played in every regular season game, with two starts. He caught 13 passes for 47 yards.

"Alex played significant snaps for us last year, and it’s good to get him back in the fold," said Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. "He’s ready to go physically, and it's mini-camp week, so he jumps right back in there for us."

Smith has 119 NFL games played, with 57 starts. He has 160 receptions for 1,461 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is expected to be No. 3 on the depth chart behind Tyler Eifert and Jermaine Gresham.

James Wilder Jr.

Vontaze Burfict
News
Wide receiver A.J. Green is the lone first-team All-Pro for the playoff-qualifying Bengals. Linebacker Vontaze Burfict made it to the second team of The Associated Press selections.
Will Svitek
News
The Bengals signed offensive lineman Will Svitek, who played in 13 games for the Patriots last year.
Rex Burkhead
News
Bengals running back Rex Burkhead played in only one game as a rookie. The former Nebraska star is hoping for more opportunities under new coordinator Hue Jackson, a running game guru.

“Coach Jackson has a great mind for the game of football, and I know he likes using the running backs, like he did with (Darren) McFadden in Oakland and the rest of that crew,” Burkhead told the team's website. “If he wants to use me in every way possible, I’m ready for it. I’m waiting for my opportunity, and if he calls my number I’ll be ready.”

Burkhead impressed in the 2013 preseason, gaining 130 yards on 28 carries (4.6 ypc) with one touchdown and catching five passes for 39 yards. He's currently fourth on the depth chart behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Giovani Bernard and Cedric Peerman.

Robert Geathers
News
The Bengals placed defensive end Robert Geathers on injured reserve Wednesday. Geathers hurt his elbow Monday against the Steelers.
James Wright
News
The Bengals signed sixth-round pick Marquis Flowers, a linebacker out of Arizona, and seventh-rounder James Wright, a wide receiver from LSU.
Emmanuel Lamur
News
Bengals offensive lineman Clint Boling and linebacker/safety Emmanuel Lamur are expected to pitch in more in 2014 after getting hurt in 2013.

The official team website notes that Boling, who had ACL surgery on Dec. 31, is a much-needed piece to the O-line. His versatility provides depth and he's talented enough to start. He thinks he'll be ready for Week 1.

Lamur (shoulder) will be cleared in time for late-April offseason work and also offers a lot of versatility. Big enough to play linebacker and fast enough to dabble at safety, Lamur could work as a three-down defender, according to defensive coordinator Paul Guenther, but might exclusively on passing downs in nickel packages.

Brandon Thompson
News
Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins' status is not known after suffering a torn ACL in the middle of last season. In February it was reported that he hadn't had any setbacks but ESPN says it's "anyone's guess" when he'll be back on the field. The Bengals are apt to keep Devon Still and/or Brandon Thompson if Atkins isn't ready for the start of the season.
Chris Lewis-Harris
News
The loss of Terence Newman for at least one week with a knee injury motivated the Bengals to promote cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris from the practice squad on Thursday and release safety Tony Dye .

Lewis-Harris spent seven weeks on the active roster this year and made three tackles in three games played.

Cobi Hamilton
News
The Bengals signed receiver Cobi Hamilton, centers T.J. Johnson and Scott Wedige, defensive end David King, cornerback Onterio McCalebb and linebacker Bruce Taylor to reserve/futures contracts.
Zach Minter
News
As the Bengals prepare to open training camp this week, they placed nine players on the Physically Unable to Perform list and another three on the Non-Football Injury list. All 12 players can come off both lists at any time.

Defensive tackle Geno Atkins (knee), cornerback Leon Hall (Achilles), guard Clint Boling (knee), linebacker Marquis Flowers (hamstring), punter Kevin Huber (neck), receiver Colin Lockett (hamstring), defensive tackle Zach Minter (back), defensive tackle Devon Still (back) and receiver Ryan Whalen (hamstring) all were placed on PUP.

In addition to receiver Marvin Jones (ankle), who might not be seriously hurt, the Bengals placed cornerback Onterio McCalebb (ankle) and quarterback AJ McCarron (shoulder) on their NFI list.

Injury
Back - PUP. Questionable for start of regular season
Jeremy Hill
News
Bengals rookie running back Jeremy Hill is a candidate to break out this season, reports ESPN.

Hill is expected to be No. 2 on the depth chart behind Giovani Bernard in offensive coordinator Hue Jackson's run-heavy offense. Hill is expected to get short-yardage work ahead of BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who isn't a lock to make the final roster.

Andrew Whitworth
News
The Bengals' Andrew Whitworth moved from left tackle to left guard for the final six games last season, replacing the injured Clint Boling while Anthony Collins stepped in for Whitworth. Although Whitworth excelled inside, he'd prefer to return to left tackle.

“I’m a long, lean lever guy without thick arms or legs. I’m built to play tackle,” Whitworth told the team's website. “I feel like that’s where I’d like to stay. That’s not a firm thing. It’s just what I would prefer.”

Whitworth is signed through 2015.

“I know this is a business and they have to do what they think is best for the future of the team and not for just one or two years,” he siad. “I know I turn the big 33 this year (Dec. 12) …I feel like I can play tackle for a long time.”

Whitworth's future could depend on whether Cincinnati re-signs Collins, a free agent.

Will Clarke
News
With the No. 88 pick in the NFL Draft, the Bengals selected defensive end Will Clarke from West Virginia.

Clarke had six sacks in 2013, and he should complete for playing time in the Bengals' defensive line rotation right away.

Devon Still

Jasper Collins
News
The Steelers have signed wide receiver Jasper Collins and safety Jordan Dangerfield to futures contracts.
Tyler Eifert
News
With Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham sidelined with a back injury, second-year player Tyler Eifert had a few "attention-grabbing receptions" during practice on Thursday, ESPN reported. Eifert said his spring shoulder injury is fully healed
Kevin Brock

Marquis Flowers

Injury
Hamstring - PUP. Questionable for start of regular season
Brandon Joiner
News
The Bengals made a slew of moves Tuesday as they get closer to finalizing the 53-man roster.

Cincinnati waived offensive guard Otis Hudson and tackle Jason Weaver, put linebackers Brandon Joiner (knee) and Sean Porter (shoulder) on injured reserve, and placed quarterback Zac Robinson (elbow) and fullback Chris Pressley (knee) on the PUP list.

Orson Charles
News
Bengals fullback Orson Charles was arrested in Kentucky on charges of wanton endangerment. That means he was putting someone in danger or exposure to injury or death. No specific details are known other than he was arrested by Madison County officials last night. Charles is entering his third season with Cincinnati; he has nine career catches.
Andy Dalton
News
As Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson cautioned, it's only Day 1, but Andy Dalton looks much improved following an offseason of tweaking his mechanics with quarterback guru Tom House. ESPN reports Dalton was on the money not just on small and mid-range throws but he also hit the deep ball perfectly a couple of times to none other than A.J. Green.

The Bengals re-signed defensive back Taylor Mays Tuesday, according to CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. Financial details of the move are not yet known.

Mays finished the 2013 season with 19 tackles and one fumble recover in eight games.

Shawn Williams

On Day 3 of the NFL Draft, the Bengals added Georgia safety Shawn Williams, Texas A&M linebacker Sean Porter, Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead and Arkansas wide receiver Cobi Hamilton.
Jermaine Gresham
News
The Bengals put tight end Jermaine Gresham on the PUP list to start training camp, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer. He missed OTAs and minicamp after undergoing hernia surgery but is expected to return during camp.
Jeremy Johnson
News
On Thursday the Patriots released receivers Jeremy Johnson and Reese Wiggins. Both were rookie free agents signed on May 27.
Giovani Bernard
News
On the heels of a report from the Bengals' website saying Giovani Bernard should receive 230 carries, the Cincinnati Enquirer seconded that notion, stating Bernard will be featured "early and often. His expansion as a receiver will only help create a scenario where he can crack 70 receptions and 230 carries for 300-plus total touches. Buckle up."

Bernard ran 170 times as a rookie and caught 56 passes.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis
News
Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis "is involved in a very tough numbers game," reports the team's website. Cincy drafted a big back in Jeremy Hill at No. 55 overall, and the team is loaded at running back.

Hill, Giovani Bernard and special teams co-captain Cedric Peerman look to be locks, the report said. The team might have to choose between Green-Ellis and second-year back Rex Burkhead, who's five years younger.

But no decision will be made until late in the preseason "because injuries are so much of a factor at running back." the website said.

Dane Sanzenbacher
News
With Andrew Hawkins now with the Browns, Dane Sanzenbacher is the Bengals' likely slot receiver, reports ESPN.com. The 5-11, 184-pounder has 34 catches for 344 yards and three touchdowns over his three-year career with the Bears and Bengals.
AJ McCarron

Injury
Shoulder - NFI. Probable for start of regular season
Lavelle Westbrooks

George Iloka
News
Bengals defensive back George Iloka and linebacker Rey Maualuga each intercepted quarterback Matt Cassel Week 16 against the Vikings, joining linebacker Vincent Rey, who returned his pick for a touchdown. It was both players' first interception this season.

Iloka also had two tackles, including one solo. Maualuga also had three tackles, including one solo.

Adam Jones

Leon Hall
News
Bengals cornerback Leon Hall was back at practice on Thursday, ESPN reported. Hall tore his Achilles last season.

"Mentally, it's easier the second time," Hall said about coming back from an injury again. "Not even close. I mean, the first time going into my goal was to come back for training camp, and I felt I could achieve that goal, but obviously I was going into it blind. I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know what to do as opposed to this second time."

Chandler Burden
News
The Bengals signed free agent offensive tackle Chandler Burden on Tuesday, the team announced.

Burden, who played at Kentucky, is a first-year NFL player. He entered the NFL in May of 2012 as a college free agent with Tennessee and spent the 2012 season on the Miami practice squad.

He was waived by the Dolphins in the 2013 preseason and spent most of the season’s second half on the Kansas City practice squad. He was waived by the Chiefs this past May 28.

Margus Hunt
News
Even though he barely played last season, the Bengals are anticipating a big leap from defensive end Margus Hunt in 2014. Hunt is expected to play only on the left side of the defense as part of a rotation with other defenders before moving on to playing elsewhere on the line. His body (6-foot-8, 280 pounds) is ready for the game, it's all about getting his mind right.

"(Strength) can still be a weakness if you don't know how to use it," Hunt told the official team website. "You can be as a strong as you want, but there's a balance in football where it all needs to sit. ... A lot of time the playbook really got me on track. Now I don't feel it's a lot to put on me. I've had a year behind me."

Kevin Huber
Carlos Dunlap
News
Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap, who signed a six-year, $40 million contract last offseason, might have to be released "to create the salary cap room necessary to sign a number of other highly considered players on their roster about to hit free agency," reports DraftInsider.net. Dunlap had 7.5 sacks and four forced fumbles last season.

Defensive end Michael Johnson is one high-profile Bengal about to hit free agency.

Ryan Whalen

Injury
Hamstring - PUP. Questionable for start of regular season
Terence Newman
David King

The Bengals signed receiver Cobi Hamilton, centers T.J. Johnson and Scott Wedige, defensive end David King, cornerback Onterio McCalebb and linebacker Bruce Taylor to reserve/futures contracts.
Jason Campbell
News
With pick No. 164 in the NFL Draft, the Bengals selected quarterback A.J. McCarron from Alabama. McCarron will compete with Jason Campbell to be the No. 2 quarterback behind starter Andy Dalton.

Even though Dalton is entering the final year of his contract, McCarron is not in line to start any time soon unless Dalton leaves as a free agent, which isn't likely. McCarron had a standout senior campaign in 2013, winning the Maxwell Award (college football player of the year), the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and finishing second in the Heisman Trophy voting.

He set the Alabama record for passing yards after throwing for 3,063 yards, 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 13 starts. He had a 36-4 record in 40 career starts with all four losses coming to opponents ranked in the Top 15.
