Whitworth, a nine-year veteran at left tackle, said he understands the business side of football and will mentor the new players.

"How I do things as a captain and leader, I am not planning on doing just what everyone else does," Whitworth said. "I want to be above and beyond and more than the average guy in this locker room, and have and always will."

Jeremy Hill
News
Bengals emerging back Jeremy Hill has blamed overconfidence for the spate of fumbles that marred his 2014 season.

Hill fumbled just once in two seasons at LSU, then five times as a rookie for Cincinnati, which drafted him in the second round in part because of his ability to hang on to the ball.

"I had so much confidence last year in my ability to carry the football, I kind of got lackadaisical about it and just kind of said, 'Well, no one can take the ball from me,' and just kind of wasn't respecting the guys on the other team," Hill told ESPN. "That's the worst mistake you can make, especially in this league."

His propensity to fumble did not prevent him from taking over as the featured back by midseason and finishing with 1,124 yards and a 5.1 yards-per-carry average.

Andrew Whitworth
News
Five days after Bengals offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth expressed frustration over the team's lack of communication with him, he declared himself a Bengal for life.

Whitworth criticized the team's "poor customer service" for using two draft picks on offensive linemen without communicating their plan with him.

On Saturday, Whitworth said he'd spoken to the team since his outburst and settled some issues.

"Monday was just an emotional day for me. It's a tough day. Just the process," Whitworth said, per Bengals.com. "You're getting older and eventually teams are going to have to make moves that prepare for that. And so for me, it's just being able to swallow that. The competitor I am, it's hard. The bottom line is, I love this place. I won't play anywhere else. I'll never put on another uniform other than a Cincinnati Bengal uniform and that's all that's important to me."

Tyler Eifert
News
Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is on target to participate from the start of training camp, Bengals.com reports.

Eifert tore his labrum last offseason and dislocated his elbow in the first quarter of his first regular-season game. Rather than return late in the year, he and the team opted for season-ending shoulder surgery. The tight end said that his elbow has been cleared and he's waiting to receive clearance on his shoulder in a few weeks.

"I tried to play through the year. Once I had elbow surgery and I wasn’t going to come back, then I just got the shoulder done," Eifert said. "That’s why I’m excited now because I’m feeling strong, feeling upbeat. I’m not in any pain. It feels good."

"I had a premonition that this would occur with Jermaine," Lewis said, per Bengals.com, "because Jermaine is a homebody and they all watched what happened with Michael."

"He’s a man of many, many, many, many, many, many, many moods," Lewis said. "But one he’s consistent with is, 'I’m loyal to you, coach.'"

Giovani Bernard
News
Bengals running back Jeremy Hill figures to be the bell cow in 2015, garnering 15-20 touches per game, but running back Giovani Bernard won't be an afterthought, reports Geoff Hobson of the team's offiicial website.

"Bernard is still going to get a lot of key touches as the change-of-pace guy," Hobson wrote, projecting Bernard with 8-11 touches per game. "I think [OC] Hue [Jackson] uses him a lot more in the pass game this year. With [tight end Jermaine] Gresham expected to be gone, I'm going to write in Gio for 60 catches."

It's not a stretch, as Bernard caught 56 passes as a rookie, then 43 in 13 games last year. He had a touchdown grab in each of the last two regular-season games and was Cincy's best receiver down the stretch, per Hobson.
