Position Listing

Vinston Painter
News
The battered Browns list three injured players on their inactive list for their Sunday game at Carolina, including Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden (shoulder). Also hurt and out are fellow corner K'Waun Williams (hamstring) and tight end Gary Barnidge (rib).

The healthy scratches are wideout Rodney Smith , running back Glenn Winston and offensive linemen Vinston Painter and Andrew McDonald.

Tyler Thigpen
News
Bills quarterback Tyler Thigpen saw his first action of the season in Week 15 against the Seahawks. He came on for starter Ryan Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter and completed 3 of 5 passes for 30 yards in the 50-17 loss.
Phillip Taylor
News
The worst news for the Browns is that tight end Jordan Cameron (concussion) is out Sunday against Houston and could be done for the season, and defensive tackle Phillip Taylor (knee) is out for the year. But aside from special teams player Johnson Bademosi (concussion) being ruled out for the game against the Texans, the team is relatively healthy.

An exception could be safety Tashaun Gipson (concussion), who is questionable. The probables are defensive end Desmond Bryant (wrist), wideout Andrew Hawkins (thigh/knee), linebacker Barkevious Mingo (shoulder) and defensive tackle Billy Winn (toe).

Injury
Knee - IR. Out for season
Travis Benjamin
News
With wideout Josh Gordon facing a one-year suspension, the Browns are dangerously thin at receiver entering 2015. ESPN.com notes the Browns have two returning slot receivers in Andrew Hawkins and Taylor Gabriel and "an undersized situational receiver" in 5-10 Travis Benjamin.

Miles Austin is scheduled for unrestricted free agency after catching 47 passes for 568 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. Tight end Jordan Cameron also is set to be an unrestricted free agent.

Hawkins, a 5-7, 180-pounder, led the team with 63 grabs for 824 yards, with two touchdowns. Cleveland failed to add a wideout in last year's draft but almost certainly must address the position in the 2015 draft.

Garrett Hartley
News
Browns new placekicker Garrett Hartley received no opportunities upon his arrival in Week 15, but knocked down both chances Sunday at Carolina.

Hartley booted a 43-yarder to tie the game early in the second quarter and added a 31-yarder late in the third. He also nailed his lone extra point attempt.

Paul McQuistan
News
Browns coach Mike Pettine said Thursday offensive lineman John Greco will likely start at center and offensive lineman Paul McQuistan will start at right guard Week 7 at Jacksonville. The starting lineup along the offensive line is undergoing changes in the wake of center Alex Mack's leg injury.
Glenn Winston

Shaun Draughn
News
The Browns have signed running back Shaun Draughn, a source has told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Draughn has played in just one game this season with 19 yards on 10 carries. The Browns are looking for depth in the backfield after releasing Ben Tate and the struggles of rookies Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell in Week 13 at Buffalo.

Kendall James
News
The Chargers have waived guard Jeff Baca from their active roster and cornerback Kendall James from their practice squad.

Baca was released by Dallas in mid-November and played in just one game for San Diego.

Paul Kruger
News
The Browns have cleared all their probables for the Sunday game against Indianapolis. That group includes linebacker Barkevious Mingo (shoulder) and Paul Kruger (illness), as well as center Nick McDonald (ankle/knee).

Nick McDonald
News
The Browns have cleared all their probables for the Sunday game against Indianapolis. That group includes linebacker Barkevious Mingo (shoulder) and Paul Kruger (illness), as well as center Nick McDonald (ankle/knee).

Spencer Lanning
News
Tight end Jordan Cameron (shoulder) is not the only Browns player listed as questionable for the Sunday game against Baltimore. Second-year linebacker Barkevious Mingo (shoulder) has received the same designation.

All the other Browns on their Friday injury report aside from shelved running back Ben Tate (knee) are probable. They are wide receiver Travis Benjamin (knee), defensive ends Desmond Bryant (wrist) and John Hughes (hamstring), punter Spencer Lanning (shoulder), offensive lineman Paul McQuistan (ankle) and cornerback Buster Skrine (thumb).

Josh Gordon
News
Browns wideout Josh Gordon tested positive for alcohol and "now will be subject to a one-year banishment," sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Gordon was suspended for the first 10 games this season for a repeat violation of the league's drug policy.

Pro Football Talk reports that because of Gordon's past DUI, alcohol was one of the substances for which he was being tested. The website said a one-year suspension is likely a "done deal."

The Browns also suspended Gordon for missing a Saturday walkthrough before the regular-season finale, and CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported then the Browns might be ready to part ways with the ultra-talented 23-year-old.

The Browns released the following statement regarding the news:

"Clearly we are very disappointed to hear the latest report regarding Josh. At this point, due to the confidential nature of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, we have not been made aware by the league of a failed test. We are in the process of gathering more information and will provide further comment at the appropriate time."

Robert Nelson
News
The Browns listed cornerback Joe Haden (shoulder) and linebacker Karlos Dansby (knee) as questionable for Sunday’s game at Carolina. Haden was able to practice Friday on a limited basis.

Also listed as questionable are Gary Barnidge (ribs), Marlon Moore (knee), Robert Nelson (hamstring) and Jabaal Sheard (foot).

The Browns ruled K’Waun Williams (hamstring) and Tashaun Gipson (knee) as out. Wide receiver Andrew Hawkins (illness) is the only player listed as probable.

The Browns are 3 ½ point underdogs to the Panthers.

Charley Hughlett
News
Quarterback Brian Hoyer (shoulder) and cornerback Justin Gilbert, who is being disciplined, headline the inactives posted by the Browns for their Sunday game in Baltimore. Also hurt and out are defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin (ankle) and tackle Ryan Seymour (hamstring).

A trio of healthy scratches include long snapper Charley Hughlett, offensive lineman Andrew McDonald and wideout Phil Bates.

John Greco
Calvin Barnett
News
Justin Gilbert
News
Browns embattled rookie cornerback Justin Gilbert was "essentially suspended" in Week 17 against the Ravens, coach Mike Pettine told reporters on Monday, per the Plain Dealer. Pettine indicated that Gilbert was informed he wouldn't play Sunday's season finale just past the 4 p.m. roster deadline on Saturday, which is why he was ruled inactive.

Gilbert. the No. 8 overall selection in this year's draft out of Oklahoma State, started only two of 14 games his rookie season. He has totaled only 29 tackles and one interception while playing 375 snaps.

Chris Kirksey
News
Browns rookie linebacker Chris Kirksey managed a breakthrough game Sunday at Jacksonville despite the team's lopsided loss.

Kirksey led the team with a career-best seven solo tackles and registered one of their two sacks. It was his first sack since the season opener.

Donte Whitner
News
Mike Pettine has expressed good news on the injury and illness front for the Browns.

He said that linebacker Karlos Dansby (knee), who has missed the last three games, is on the verge of returning, and that safety Donte Whitner (illness) has returned to practice. Pettine added that tight end Gary Barnidge (ribs) is getting closer to a comeback and he's optimistic that free safety Tashaun Gipson (knee) will be back to game action at some point this season.

Johnson Bademosi
News
The Browns ruled Jordan Cameron (concussion) and Marlon Moore (hamstring) out for Sunday's game against the Falcons. Karlos Dansby (knee) was the only player deemed doubtful, while Jabaal Sheard (foot) and Johnson Bademosi (concussion) were labeled questionable on Cleveland's final injury report for Week 12.

Meanwhile. the following players were ruled as probable: Barkevious Mingo (shoulder), Ahtyba Rubin (knee) and Desmond Bryant (wrist).

Tank Carder
News
The Browns list a whopping 16 players on their Friday injury report, but half are probable for the Week 17 battle in Pittsburgh, including All-Pro tackle Joe Thomas (back). The other offensive players among them are running back Willis McGahee (knee) and tackle Mitchell Schwartz (toe).

The four defensive probables are linebackers Paul Kruger (illness) and Tank Carder (shoulder), safety Jordan Poyer (toe) and safety T.J. Ward (shoulder, illness). Punter Spencer Lanning (knee) is also probable.

Keith Pough
News
The Browns have officially activated wide receiver Josh Gordon and added him to the 53-man active roster, per the team's official website. In a corresponding move, the team waived linebacker Keith Pough.

Gordon served a 10-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He was arguably one of the top wideouts of the 2013 season, racking up 87 receptions for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns. He'll make his season debut on Sunday against Atlanta.

Barkevious Mingo
News
Browns coach Mike Pettine told reporters on Tuesday he's unsure if linebacker Barkevious Mingo's shoulder will require offseason surgery, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Mingo has played through the issue this season while wearing a harness on his shoulder.

Mingo has appeared in 12 games and registered 42 combined tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery.

Jim Dray
News
Rather than play a standout role, Browns wideout Josh Gordon merely led a small group of minor contributors to a Sunday loss against the host Panthers.

Gordon finished with four catches for 45 yards. Also chipping in were tight end Jim Dray and wideout Taylor Gabriel, both of whom caught just one short pass.

Ishmaa'ily Kitchen
News
The Browns made it official, placing rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel (hamstring) on injured reserve along with defensive lineman Ishmaa'ily Kitchen (leg). Cleveland activated defensive lineman John Hughes (knee) from short-term injured reserve and signed long snapper Charley Hughlett.

They are defensive linemen Billy Winn (toe) and Desmond Bryant (wrist), wideout Andrew Hawkins (thigh/knee), center Nick McDonald (calf) and linebacker Barkevious Mingo (shoulder).
Alex Mack
News
The faint hopes that Browns Pro Bowl center Alex Mack could return from a broken leg at some point this season have died. He was placed Friday on season-ending IR.

Mack broke his leg in Cleveland's victory Sunday over Pittsburgh. He had never missed a snap in an NFL game.

Injury
Karim Barton
News
The Browns signed quarterback Connor Shaw, linebackers Justin Staples and Keith Pough, offensive linemen Patrick Lewis and Karim Barton, tight end Emmanuel Ogbuehi and receiver Charles Johnson to their practice squad.
Joe Haden
News
Four key Browns defenders deemed questionable for the Sunday game in Baltimore are ready to roll. Included are cornerbacks Joe Haden (shoulder) and K'Waun Williams (hamstring). The others are end Desmond Bryant (thumb) and linebacker Jabaal Sheard (foot).

Jim Leonhard
News
Despite having a strong season and landing a starting job in the absence of injured Donte Whitner, Browns safety Jim Leonhard has told the Akron Beacon Journal that he still plans on retiring at the end of the year.

The 32-year-old Leonhard contributed seven tackles, one interception and a sack Sunday in the loss to Indianapolis.

Craig Robertson
News
The Browns injury report for Week 15 against the Bears featured six players from the defensive side of the ball, all of whom were expected to take the field Sunday.  As expected, all six are active prior to kickoff: linebackers Tank Carder (shoulder), D'Qwell Jackson (ankle), Paul Kruger (elbow) and Craig Robertson (knee); defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin (calf); and defensive back T.J. Ward (shoulder).
Terrance West
News

Jabaal Sheard

Mitchell Schwartz
News
One of the reasons Johnny Manziel was such a spectacular player in college was because he was able to extend a play and throw to a big receiver down the field. Landing with the Browns is a total win for Johnny Football because he'll have Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Greg Little and Nate Burleson as down-field targets along with Andrew Hawkins as a quick, short-area weapon. Ben Tate rumbling in the backfield doesn't hurt either.

Another impressive factor is the Browns O-line, which has two studs in left tackle Joe Thomas and center Alex Mack. If the line can improve from last season (we're looking at you, Mitchell Schwartz), then Manziel will have time to make good throws.

Of all the places he could have gone in the draft, Cleveland's the best fit. Not only should he inject life into the franchise but he should end up starting in Week 1 against the Steelers. Expect Manziel to get taken late in every single seasonal draft as a combo backup Fantasy QB/sleeper who could get some serious trade value. He'll get picked in the middle rounds in dynasty/keeper leagues and should be considered a Top 5 choice in rookie-only drafts.
Andrew Hawkins

Gary Barnidge
News
The Browns listed 11 players on its final injury report for Week 17 against Baltimore. Ahtyba Rubin (ankle) and Ryan Seymour (hamstring) were ruled out, while quarterback Brian Hoyer (shoulder, bicep) was deemed doubtful for Sunday.

Gary Barnidge (rib), Desmond Bryant (thumb), Joe Haden (shoulder), Andrew Hawkins (thumb), Jabaal Sheard (foot), Ryan Taylor (elbow) and K'Waun Williams (hamstring) were designated as questionable. Marlon Moore (knee) was the only player on the report labeled probable.

Andrew McDonald

Ahtyba Rubin

Injury
Ankle - Missed Week 17 at Baltimore
Brian Hoyer
News
Quarterback Brian Hoyer is open to returning to the Browns in 2015, if he is given a chance to compete for the starting role, Hoyer's agent Joe Linta told NBC Sports.

Hoyer started the first 13 games of the season and went 7-6. However, he was replaced by Johnny Manziel.

"I think the only thing that would make him not [want to] come back is if they said Manziel or whoever we take in the draft or whoever we sign in free agency is going to be the starter and you will only be the backup," Linta said.

Hoyer is set to become a free agent in the offseason and Linta added he expects to meet with the Browns soon to discuss their options.

Desmond Bryant

Braxston Cave
News

Jamie Meder
News
The Browns announced several roster moves on Saturday, per FOX Sports Ohio. The team promoted quarterback Connor Shaw and defensive lineman Jamie Meder from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster. In a corresponding move, Cleveland waived linebacker Eric Martin and tight end Ryan Taylor.
Isaiah Crowell
News
Browns running back Terrance West, who was benched in Week 16 against Carolina, will get the start in Sunday's season finale against the Ravens, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

The Baltimore native's role has fluctuated his rookie season, after splitting snaps with Isaiah Crowell in Weeks 14 and 15. He received single digits in carries in three of five games since the team parted ways with Ben Tate. In 13 games, West has carried the ball 153 times for 579 yards and three touchdowns.

Sione Fua
News
The Browns announced they put defensive end Armonty Bryant (knee) on injured reserve and signed defensive lineman Sione Fua. Fua was among the Broncos' final preseason cuts.
Jordan Cameron
News
Browns tight end Jordan Cameron is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and ESPNCleveland.com does not expect him to re-sign with Cleveland. A concussion and shoulder injury limited Cameron to 10 games this season.

The 26-year-old caught 24 passes for 424 yards and two touchdowns after a breakout 2013 season in which he made 80 grabs for 917 yards and seven scores.

Miles Austin

John Hughes
News
The Browns made it official, placing rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel (hamstring) on injured reserve along with defensive lineman Ishmaa'ily Kitchen (leg). Cleveland activated defensive lineman John Hughes (knee) from short-term injured reserve and signed long snapper Charley Hughlett.
Karlos Dansby
News
Browns linebacker Karlos Dansby had some choice words for troubled cornerback Justin Gilbert on Monday, according to the Plain Dealer on Monday. Gilbert was demoted on the depth chart by fourth-round pick Pierre Desir because of issues in practice and off the field.

"I don't know if he can make the transition," Dansby said. "It has to be within him. He has to look in the mirror and do that himself. I can only give him the keys. I can't make him drive."

Gilbert. the No. 8 overall selection in this year's draft out of Oklahoma State, has started only two of 14 games this season. He has totaled only 29 tackles and one interception while playing 375 snaps.

"It's tough man, it's tough," Dansby said. "It's not college. In college you have two or three years where you can play around. This is real life. Lot of people out here are fighting for jobs and fighting to feed their families. Justin is trying to make a transition and it's not easy, man, it's not easy. ... One of the hardest things to do at this level is be consistent.

"You'll have a guy come in and play two or three years and be out of the league and you'll never hear from him again. There are so many first-round picks that have done that. Second-round picks that came in for two or three years because they couldn't make the transition and were out of the league."

Joel Bitonio
News
With the No. 35 pick in the NFL Draft, the Browns selected offensive lineman Joel Bitonio from Nevada.

Bitonio is 6-foot-4, 302 pounds. He was a tackle in college, but he could also play guard for the Browns if needed.

Bitonio started his last 38 games, including 26 at right tackle and 12 at left tackle. According to one stats service, since the beginning of the 2012 season, he gave up only one quarterback pressure and two sacks and was penalized only five times through a span of 2,054 snaps.

He has the chance to compete for a starting job in training camp and could play left guard for the Browns this year.

Christian Tupou
News
With Johnny Manziel (hamstring) sidelined for the season finale and Brian Hoyer's (shoulder, bicep) status up in the air, the Browns signed quarterback Tyler Thigpen, according to CBSSports.com Jason La Canfora on Tuesday.

The team announced the move, waiving fullback Ray Agnew and signed defensive lineman Christian Tupou to the practice squad.

If Hoyer is unable to play, the Browns could turn to Connor Shaw Week 17 against Baltimore. According to La Canfora, Thigpen will be the No. 2 quarterback if Hoyer can't play.

Thigpen played with the Browns in the preseason before getting cut on Aug. 12. He has not made an appearance since 2012 with the Bills, and has not made a start since 2010 with the Dolphins.

Joe Thomas
News
Browns All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas has made no secret that he supports the decision of Mike Pettine to continue starting Brian Hoyer at quarterback Sunday against Indianapolis.

Thomas indicated that his team, which remains in the playoff hunt, would not maximize its postseason hopes with a rookie such as Johnny Manziel running the team.

"Certainly when you start throwing guys in there, trying to see what they can do, the message is we're already playing for next year," Thomas told the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

Connor Shaw
News
New Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, introduced at a news conference Thursday, stopped way short of committing to Johnny Manziel as his starting quarterback. "We're not sure if our starting quarterback is in the building or not," DeFilippo said, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Manziel did not impress as a rookie. In five games, including two starts, he completed 18 of 35 throws for 175 yards and no touchdowns with two interceptions. Manziel ran nine times for 29 yards and a score.

Brian Hoyer is about to hit free agency, and undrafted rookie Connor Shaw is the only other quarterback on the roster.

The Browns own the 12th and 19th picks in the first round of this year's draft. They selected Manziel at No. 22 overall last year.

DeFilippo said he's looking forward to working with Manziel and that Manziel will have a "clean slate."

Buster Skrine
News
The doubtful status of surprising Browns rookie cornerback K'Waun Williams for the Sunday game in Jacksonville has forced Buster Skrine back inside as the nickel corner, ESPN.com is reporting.

That could mean more playing time for rookie first round pick Justin Gilbert, who performed better in Week 6 after losing playing time to poor performance.

Johnny Manziel
News
When former Browns general manager Phil Savage provided his assessment of quarterback Johnny Manziel leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, he said whichever team drafted Manziel, they needed to make a schematic commitment to him, per Cleveland.com.

After watching Manziel struggle during his rookie season, Savage -- who is now the executive director of the Senior Bowl -- hasn't changed his opinion.

"I don't know all the intimate details of how it went down, but to me Manziel needed to go a place where they would shape the offense around him and build elements into it that he could perform," Savage said. "If you were going to pour him into a more traditional style of offense, then it was going to be a waste of his ability because his ability is to play backyard football.

"You have to create circumstances where almost artificially you give him those same sorts of pictures and same sorts of reads."

Manziel started the season as the Browns backup quarterback in 2014 before starting two games late in the season. Unfortunately, he led the Browns to three points and seven first downs in six quarters as a starter before suffering a hamstring injury.

On Thursday, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was non-committal about Manziel's future with the franchise. He said the team is on a mission to find a starter who can "make us a championship team." New Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo added he's not sure if the Browns' starting quarterback is on the roster.

"He's a first-round pick, so there was obvious ability there," Savage, who was the Browns general manager from 2005-08, said of Manziel. "I mean it's not over with yet, but wow. Based on how the season ended, there's more questions now than on the Thursday night they drafted him."
