Phillip Taylor
News
The Browns on Friday exercised the fifth-year option on defensive lineman Phil Taylor ’s rookie contract. Taylor is now under contract through the 2015 season.

"It's very evident to us watching on tape and seeing him in person this week that Phil Taylor is very explosive, and he's a great fit for what we want to do on defense," said coach Mike Pettine. "I like his ability to rush the passer and be there to clog up the middle at the point of attack when we need him."

Taylor, the 21st overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, has appeared in 39 games with 38 starts. He has registered 130 tackles, seven sacks, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

In 2013, Taylor played and started 15 games at nose tackle in the Browns' 3-4 defense after transitioning from defensive tackle. He recorded 57 tackles, two sacks and one pass defensed, helping Cleveland finish ninth in the NFL in total defense, the team's best finish since 1994.

Charles Johnson
News
The Browns claimed two more players off waivers, wideout LaRon Byrd from the Cowboys and offensive lineman Caylin Hauptmann from the Seahawks. In addition, Cleveland waived offensive linemen Karim Barton and Martin Wallace and wideout Charles Johnson.
Paul Kruger
News
Browns defensive end Paul Kruger is coming off a disappointing season in which he managed just 4 1/2 sacks after signing a free agent contract. He has already begun making up for it.

Kruger registered two of his team's four sacks and added two more solo tackles in the tight loss Sunday in Pittsburgh. His first sack ended a promising first drive of the game for the Steelers, forcing them to kick a field goal.

Nick McDonald
News

The four defensive probables are linebackers Paul Kruger (illness) and Tank Carder (shoulder), safety Jordan Poyer (toe) and safety T.J. Ward (shoulder, illness). Punter Spencer Lanning (knee) is also probable.

Josh Gordon
News
The NFL and the NFL Players Association are finalizing a new drug policy Tuesday evening, and a formal announcement is expected to be made by Wednesday morning, CBSSports.com NFL insider Jason La Canfora reports.

The NFLPA has begun to notify players of the revamped suspensions under the new policy, including Browns receiver Josh Gordon officially having his suspension reduced to 10 games. Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker, Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey and Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick are among the handful of players who should be able to rejoin their respective teams Wednesday in preparation of playing in Week 3.

However, Dolphins defenders Dion Jordan and Reshad Jones are not expected to be affected by the change in policy, the Palm Beach Post reports, leaving their suspensions active for two more games.

Browns coach Mike Pettine told reporters Monday he will likely scale rookie corner Justin Gilbert's role back a bit beginning in Week 2 against the Saints, according to Cleveland.com.

Gilbert played 59 of the team's 71 defensive snaps despite not starting, but gave up a handful of big plays which cost the team in scoring drives. Still, Pettine stressed he is not benching the No. 8 overall pick this early in his career.

"You can't ease your way into NFL games,'' he said. "You have to be ready to go right away.''

Christian Kirksey

Billy Winn

Alex Mack
News
One of the reasons Johnny Manziel was such a spectacular player in college was because he was able to extend a play and throw to a big receiver down the field. Landing with the Browns is a total win for Johnny Football because he'll have Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Greg Little and Nate Burleson as down-field targets along with Andrew Hawkins as a quick, short-area weapon. Ben Tate rumbling in the backfield doesn't hurt either.

Another impressive factor is the Browns O-line, which has two studs in left tackle Joe Thomas and center Alex Mack. If the line can improve from last season (we're looking at you, Mitchell Schwartz), then Manziel will have time to make good throws.

Of all the places he could have gone in the draft, Cleveland's the best fit. Not only should he inject life into the franchise but he should end up starting in Week 1 against the Steelers. Expect Manziel to get taken late in every single seasonal draft as a combo backup Fantasy QB/sleeper who could get some serious trade value. He'll get picked in the middle rounds in dynasty/keeper leagues and should be considered a Top 5 choice in rookie-only drafts.

Karim Barton
News
The Browns signed quarterback Connor Shaw, linebackers Justin Staples and Keith Pough, offensive linemen Patrick Lewis and Karim Barton, tight end Emmanuel Ogbuehi and receiver Charles Johnson to their practice squad.
Joe Haden
News
Browns premier cornerback Joe Haden is set to start Sunday in Pittsburgh despite a foot ailment that had him listed as probable. The Pro Bowler will be greatly responsible for covering Steelers top receiver Antonio Brown.
Jim Leonhard
News
The Browns have listed nine players on the injury report Week 1.

Both Paul McQuistan and John Hughes have been ruled out for the contest. Defensive lineman Desmond Bryant has been listed as doubtful.

The team did list five players as probable. Cornerbacks Pierre Desir, Joe Haden and Buster Skrine should all be good to go. So will safety Jim Leonhard, linebacker Eric Martin and long-snapper Christian Yount

Craig Robertson
News
The Browns injury report for Week 15 against the Bears featured six players from the defensive side of the ball, all of whom were expected to take the field Sunday.  As expected, all six are active prior to kickoff: linebackers Tank Carder (shoulder), D'Qwell Jackson (ankle), Paul Kruger (elbow) and Craig Robertson (knee); defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin (calf); and defensive back T.J. Ward (shoulder).
Terrance West
News
Browns running back Terrance West continued to do a darn good impression of a featured back Sunday against New Orleans while Ben Tate is out.

West not only scored his first career touchdown on a bullish 9-yard run up the middle with six minutes left in the third quarter, but he finished with 68 yards on 19 carries and added two catches for 22 yards. He has 168 yards on 35 attempts in two games for a 5.1 per-carry average.

After scoring 41 touchdowns as a senior last season at Towson State, West will try to add to his modest NFL total in Week 3 against the Ravens.

Jonathan Krause
News
The Browns cut defensive backs Royce Adams and T.J. Heath, offensive linemen Randall Harris, Ryan Lee and Jeremiah Warren, running back Edwin Baker, defensive lineman Cam Henderson, receivers Tim Smith, Jonathan Krause and Anthony Armstrong, linebackers Caleb McSurdy and Keith Pough, and tight end Martell Webb.
Injury
Jabaal Sheard
News
A nagging wrist injury will not prevent Browns outside linebacker Jabaal Sheard from playing Sunday when his team hosts the Ravens. He has been cleared to play after being listed as probable.
Mitchell Schwartz
He'll get picked in the middle rounds in dynasty/keeper leagues and should be considered a Top 5 choice in rookie-only drafts.
Andrew Hawkins
News
Browns wideout Andrew Hawkins didn't just lead his team with 70 yards receiving Sunday against New Orleans. He also caught the biggest pass of the game - the one that set up the winning field goal.

Hawkins snuck free off a busted coverage, caught a lob pass and stumbled to the Saints 12 for 28 yards with time ticking away and his team trailing by one. The play all but insured a victory and 1-1 record.

The diminutive Hawkins, who now has 14 catches in two games this season, snagged six in the win. He will attempt to add significantly to that total when Baltimore comes calling in Week 3.

Gary Barnidge
News
The loss of tight end Jordan Cameron to injury didn't hurt the Browns as much as it could have Sunday against New Orleans - thanks to backup Gary Barnidge.

Barnidge made one of the most critical catches of the game, a 10-yarder into Saints territory with 15 seconds remaining that led to the winning field goal. He finished by snagging all four of his targets for 41 yards. He will seek to further help his team's cause when it plays the Ravens in Week 3.

Eric Martin
News
Healthy scratches make up only two of the seven players on the inactive list posted Sunday by the Browns for their season opener in Pittsburgh. Defensive lineman Desmond Bryant (wrist) is the lone injured starter.

Also out are cornerbacks Pierre Desire (knee) and Robert Nelson, linebacker Eric Martin (concussion), offensive lineman Paul McQuistan (ankle), defensive lineman John Hughes (hamstring) and running back Glenn Winston.

Ahtyba Rubin
News
The Browns raised a few eyebrows earlier in the week by releasing popular veteran inside linebacker D'Qwell Jackson and could be readying to unload defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin, per the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

Rubin, who has been less productive since the team switched to a 3-4 defense, is slated to earn $6.9 million in 2014. He is heading into the last season of a four-year contract.

Brian Hoyer
News
Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer admitted after the Sunday win that he was mad when offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan told him that he was going to bring backup Johnny Manziel into the game.

"As mad as I was when he told me, it helped me mentally," Hoyer told the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

Hoyer, who seemed to throw better after Manziel's two brief appearances in the game, added that he;s open to the rookie getting some playing time if it helps the team win.

Desmond Bryant
News
Browns defensive end Desmond Bryant is ready to roll for his 2014 debut Sunday against New Orleans after missing the season opener with a wrist injury. He had been listed as questionable.

Isaiah Crowell
News
Browns rookie running back Isaiah Crowell followed his two-touchdown performance in Week 1 with a solid effort Sunday against visiting New Orleans.

Crowell contributed 54 yards on 11 carries and added one catch for three yards in the win. Included among his critical contributions were five carries for 32 yards on a touchdown drive in the third quarter.

His Browns will try to make it two in a row next Sunday when they host Baltimore.

Jordan Cameron
News
Browns coach Mike Pettine told reporters Monday injured tight end Jordan Cameron (shoulder) and Barkevious Mingo (shoulder) both made progress over the weekend in their recovery from injuries. Still, he had no update on either players' potential availability for Week 3 against the Ravens, and likely won't until the team beings practicing Wednesday.
Injury
Shoulder - Missed Week 2 vs. New Orleans
Miles Austin
News
Browns wide receiver Miles Austin made his first significant contributions to his new team Sunday with the Saints in town.

Austin tied for the team lead with six catches for 44 yards on 10 targets and made a few important grabs. Included was a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brian Hoyer for the first score of the game. Austin added a 10-yard reception for a first down and a 13-yard catch on the game-winning drive.

He wil try to continue helping Cleveland win when it hosts Baltimore next Sunday.

John Hughes
News
The Bills defensive line dominated in Sunday's 29-10 win over the Dolphins in Week 2, as they combined for four sacks of quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

John Hughes, Kyle Williams, Mario Williams and Stefan Charles each had one sack in the win. Hughes also racked up five tackles, to lead the group.

Injury
Hamstring - Missed Week 2 vs. New Orleans
Karlos Dansby
News
Browns linebacker Karlos Dansby made a huge impact Sunday in his second game with his new team.

He not only led Cleveland with 12 tackles in their defeat of New Orleans, but he sacked Drew Brees on the Saints' last play from scrimmage to push them out of field goal range and force a punt. The result was that the Browns' deficit remained 24-23, allowing them to drive downfield for the game-winning field goal.

Dansby had eight solo tackles, including two for losses. He will try to keep up the good work next Sunday against visiting Baltimore.

Joel Bitonio
News
With the No. 35 pick in the NFL Draft, the Browns selected offensive lineman Joel Bitonio from Nevada.

Bitonio is 6-foot-4, 302 pounds. He was a tackle in college, but he could also play guard for the Browns if needed.

Bitonio started his last 38 games, including 26 at right tackle and 12 at left tackle. According to one stats service, since the beginning of the 2012 season, he gave up only one quarterback pressure and two sacks and was penalized only five times through a span of 2,054 snaps.

He has the chance to compete for a starting job in training camp and could play left guard for the Browns this year.

Jordan Poyer
News
The Browns list a whopping 16 players on their Friday injury report, but half are probable for the Week 17 battle in Pittsburgh, including All-Pro tackle Joe Thomas (back). The other offensive players among them are running back Willis McGahee (knee) and tackle Mitchell Schwartz (toe).

The four defensive probables are linebackers Paul Kruger (illness) and Tank Carder (shoulder), safety Jordan Poyer (toe) and safety T.J. Ward (shoulder, illness). Punter Spencer Lanning (knee) is also probable.

Michael Bowie
News
The Browns placed linebacker Darius Eubanks and offensive lineman Michael Bowie on injured reserve, ending their seasons. Both players had shoulder surgery this month.
Injury
Billy Cundiff
