Kenneth Boatright
News
Already thin on the defensive line, the Cowboys signed end Kenneth Boatright to a two-year deal. Boatright was released by the Seahawks in June.
Ahmad Dixon
News
Cowboys safety Ahmad Dixon said he didn't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens because he was late to the walkthrough, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Dixon left the team's first preseason game with a concussion, but he appears to be past the injury. He's competing to make the team after being selected in the seventh round in this year's draft.

Barry Church
News
Twelve Cowboys suffered hamstring injuries of varying severity in 2013, reports ESPN.com. The list consisted of Miles Austin, Morris Claiborne, Sean Lee, Justin Durant, Dwayne Harris, Bruce Carter, Danny McCray, Barry Church, Dez Bryant, Lance Dunbar, Gavin Escobar and Terrance Williams.

Coach Jason Garrett is looking at other teams' approaches to find a solution. He might cut back the time players spend on the field early in the offseason, the report said.

“It is valuable to do the football stuff. We don’t feel like there’s a lot of football stuff right now,” Garrett told the website. “We want to be careful about how much we take away from that. But there’s a couple weeks prior to all that stuff starting. We’ve talked about tweaking the daily schedule and what we’re doing those first couple weeks as we start to lay the foundation for the offseason.”

James Hanna
News
Several Cowboys contributed offensively Week 14 at Chicago. Among them, tight end Gavin Escobar caught both his targets for 32 yards and wideout Miles Austin caught two of four targets for 19 yards. Tight end James Hanna had a 6-yard reception.

They'll play the Packers in Week 15.

Caleb Hanie
News
New Cowboys quarterback Caleb Hanie hails from Forney, Tex., and grew up rooting for the team.

"It's a blessing," Hanie told ESPNDallas. "It's surreal. A little big, it's a childhood team. You dream about playing (for the Cowboys)."

The Cowboys signed Hanie because they aren't sure whether Kyle Orton will return for the 2014 season. Tony Romo is rehabbing from back surgery. If Orton comes back, Brandon Weeden likely would be the No. 3 QB ahead of Hanie.

Gavin Escobar
News
Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar suffered a shoulder injury while laying out for a 37-yard completion in the third quarter of Saturday's preseason game, ESPN.com reports.

Escobar will be evaluated on Sunday, though coach Jason Garrett doesn't think "the injury will be too, too serious," he said.

Escobar was the second-leading receiver for the Cowboys in Saturday's loss to the Ravens, catching three passes for 58 yards. He's looking to earn a bigger supplement of targets this season after catching nine balls for 134 yards and two touchdowns in 2013.

Injury
Shoulder - Questionable for Week 3 of preseason
Bruce Carter

Travis Frederick
News
Cowboys center Travis Frederick is hoping to make things easier for quarterback Tony Romo this season, reports ESPN.

Part of Romo's responsibility is setting the protections with calling out the middle linebacker. The offensive line follows the assignment. If Frederick can take that responsibility away from Romo, then Romo can worry more about the coverage.

"I'm going to try and do as much as I can to take as much as I can off Tony that he was doing before for the offensive line," Frederick said. 'Not necessarily because I was a rookie or this or that, but because, if I can see it better, that's going to take one thing off his plate and that's going to help the team as a whole."

Tyron Smith
News
The Cowboys and Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith agreed in principle on an eight-year, $98 million contract extension, reports NFL Network. Smith, 23, was entering the final year of his deal.

He's now signed through 2023.

Orie Lemon
News
The Cowboys put linebacker Justin Durant (hamstring) on injured reserve and waived defensive tackle Drake Nevis and linebacker Kyle Bosworth. Dallas also cut running back George Winn from its practice squad.

Linebacker Orie Lemon re-signed with the team after being cut last week.

Johnny Thomas
News
The New Orleans Saints began paring down their roster Monday and released the following players: quarterback Luke McCown; tight end Jake Byrne; wide receivers Marques Clark, Kevin Hardy and Derek Moye; defensive backs Kamaal McIlwain, Cord Parks and Johnny Thomas; defensive linemen Remi Ayodele, Swanson Miller and Donavan Robinson; and linebacker Aaron Tevis.
Tyler Clutts
News
Cowboys WR Cole Beasley, WR Miles Austin and FB Tyler Clutts did little Week 16.

Beasley caught two passes for 29 yards. He was targeted just two times. Austin caught one pass for 8 yards. Clutts picked up 4 yards on one target.

Matt Johnson
News
Cowboys safety Matt Johnson will miss at least a week with a hamstring injury, reports ESPN.com. He missed most of his 2012 rookie season with hamstring injuries and was out all of last year due to foot surgery.
Brian Clarke
News
The Cowboys waived/injured guard Brian Clarke and signed guard Wayne Tribue, who was out of football last season.
Injury
Terrell McClain
News
Cowboys nose tackle Terrell McClain is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins due to a high ankle sprain, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Despite his status for the preseason game, McClain expects to participate in practice next week, which would likely put him on track to be available for the start of the regular seaso.

Ankle - Doubtful for Week 3 of preseason

Terrance Williams
News
Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams acknowledged that he took some plays off mentally as a rookie last year.

"I feel like sometimes when I go three deep balls straight, then I have a tendency to take a play off [mentally]," Williams told ESPN.com. "And that play that I take off, the ball is coming my way. When I get tired now, I’m just trying to hold myself accountable, just thinking about what the 10 guys would say standing right next to me."

Receivers coach Derek Dooley said Williams' challenge is to be consistent now that he's an unquestioned starter.

"When you look back at his first year, when he was playing about 35 snaps a game, he was really making some great plays," Dooley said. "Then there were a bunch of games when he was kind of thrust in and had to play the whole game when Miles [Austin] was hurt and it was hard on him, being able to sustain that mentally and physically and emotionally. So he was a little bit more inconsistent.

"The trick now is to develop that level of consistency where he can perform at his best for 70 plays. That’s not easy."

LaRon Byrd
News
The Cowboys have signed free agent LaRon Byrd, formerly with the Cardinals. Byrd has one catch in four games over two seasons.
Jermey Parnell
News
The Cowboys added DL/OL Jermey Parnell to their 53-man roster on Thursday.
Henry Melton
News
Cowboys defensive lineman Henry Melton expressed confidence Wednesday that his strained groin won't keep him from playing in the team's regular season opener, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Melton added that he would like to see action in the team's final preseason game, but he would likely need to be close to 100 percent for the team to let that happen. The front seven's biggest addition this offseason, Melton is racing against the clock to make it back by Week 1 kickoff.

Injury
Groin - Doubtful for Week 3 of preseason
Caesar Rayford
News
The Cowboys cut linebacker Caesar Rayford, who made five tackles in seven games.
Cameron Lawrence
News
Cornerback Sterling Moore, who has earned some playing time with New England and Dallas, has been cut by the Cowboys. Moore played in five games in both 2011 and 2012. Another significant cut by the team is wide receiver Anthony Armstrong, who has 54 career catches.

Others waived by Dallas are the following: quarterback Alex Tanney, tackles Demetress Bell and Edawn Coughman, defensive backs Micah Pellerin, Xavier Brewer and Jakar Hamilton, linebackers Brandon McGee, Cameron Lawrence, Caleb McSurdy and Taylor Reed, running back Kendial Lawrence, defensive tackle Jerome Long, defensive ends Thaddeus Gibson and Jabari Fletcher, guard Ray Dominguez, wide receivers Tim Benford and Danny Coale, defensive lineman Jason Vega and center Kevin Kowalski

Kyle Wilber
News
Cowboys linebacker Kyle Wilber started four of the final five games on the strong side last year, making him the favorite to start at the position in 2014, reports the Dallas Morning News. Wilber, 25, appeared in every game and finished with 42 tackles, two sacks and 14 quarterback pressures.

He'll be challenged by DeVonte Holloman.

Lance Dunbar
News
The Cowboys plan to use running back Lance Dunbar in a variety of ways, reports FOX Sports.

"Well, he's a guy that's going to be a complete weapon. We can line him up anywhere on the team -- tailback spot, at the wide receiver spot, in the slot. He has tremendous hands and he's just not a specialty guy. He could play tailback if you need him to go out there and give you 15 or 20 carries. He's that type of kid," Dallas running backs coach Gary Brown said. "He brings a whole different dimension, a whole different vibe in our room as far as what he does and we're looking forward to using him as a weapon as well."

Brown compared Dunbar, who is expected to be No. 2 on the depth chart behind DeMarco Murray, to Danny Woodhead and Darren Sproles.

"Everybody would like to have a guy like Dunbar. You look at the Sproles type guy. You look at guys around the league like Woodhead from San Diego. They all have them," Brown said. "Not everybody has them but we all want them. Once you find one, you've got to find things for him to do and you've got to make sure that he's involved in the gameplan."

Anthony Spencer
News
The Cowboys are leaning toward putting defensive end Anthony Spencer on the 53-man roster instead of the PUP list to start the season, owner Jerry Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The PUP list would make Spencer ineligible for the first six games.

Rehabbing from October microfracture surgery on his knee, Spencer is "getting there at a faster pace than we thought," Jones said.

Injury
Knee - PUP. Questionable for start of regular season
Nick Hayden
News
Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar (hamstring), defensive tackle Jason Hatcher (neck), defensive tackle Nick Hayden (ribs), defensive end George Selvie (shoulder), defensive end DeMarcus Ware (thigh) and safety J.J. Wilcox (knee) were all cleared to play Week 13 vs. Oakland. The only player that wasn't listed as probable was Escobar, who was considered questionable.

Tim Benford
News
Cornerback Sterling Moore, who has earned some playing time with New England and Dallas, has been cut by the Cowboys. Moore played in five games in both 2011 and 2012. Another significant cut by the team is wide receiver Anthony Armstrong, who has 54 career catches.

Jeremy Mincey
News
With rookie Demarcus Lawrence expected to miss 8-12 weeks with a fractured foot, the Cowboys are thin at defensive end. Jeremy Mincey and George Selvie are running with the first team, and Martez Wilson and rookie Ben Gardner could get into the mix, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Dallas hopes Anthony Spencer can return from his microfracture surgery. He's currently on the PUP list.

Jamar Newsome
News
The Cowboys re-signed guard Ray Dominguez and wideout Jamar Newsome to their practice squad after releasing them Saturday.
Dan Bailey
News
Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey, who just signed a seven-year, $22.5 million deal, said the contract won't put extra pressure on him.

“I don’t think it changes too much,” Bailey told ESPN.com. “You’re only as good as your last kick. That’s the nature of the league. You have to bring your ‘A’ game every day to practice, to the game, even off the field. You’ve got to do the right things. I don’t think it’ll have too much of an impact. I think I take pride on being mentally strong enough to put that on the back burner and focus on the task at hand.”

Bailey hit 28 of 30 field goals this season, including 6 of 7 from 50-plus yards.

Dez Bryant
News
Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant had 14 receptions of 20-plus yards last season, which ranked tied for 22nd in the league. Under new play caller Scott Linehan, the Cowboys will take more downfield shots to Bryant, reports ESPN.com.

In his first preseason action Saturday, Bryant caught a 31-yard touchdown on a jump ball and nearly had another downfield reception. Officials ruled Bryant didn't have complete control as he went out of bounds. Bryant also gained 22 yards when he caught a pass over the middle and broke a tackle.

"We're more in attack mode," Bryant said. "That's our mindset."

Over the past three years, Lions receiver Calvin Johnson had 94 receptions of 20-plus yards playing for Linehan.

Dwayne Harris

Joseph Randle
News
Cowboys running back Joseph Randle has rushed for 91 yards on 20 preseason carries (4.6 yards per carry). Owner Jerry Jones said Randle "is really playing outstanding" and "that's not an exaggeration," reports ESPN.com.

Randle, who averaged 3.0 yards per carry last year, said he's bigger, stronger and smarter. "I'm a year smarter in the playbook. I think that's all things that help me play fast," he said. "Now, I'm just working on playing fast every play I'm out there. That comes with practice."

Randle is running third behind DeMarco Murray and Lance Dunbar.

Sterling Moore

Justin Green
News
The Patriots and Cowboys struck a deal Tuesday, with defensive back Justin Green heading to Dallas in exchange for defensive tackle Ben Bass.

The Cowboys are shorthanded at the cornerback position after Orlando Scandrick received a four-game suspension Monday. Green, who was a rookie free agent last season, spent time on the New England practice squad as well as two games on the active roster. Bass spent all of last season on injured reserve but got into two games during his rookie season in 2012.

Demarcus Lawrence
News
