Kenneth Boatright
News
Cowboys quarterback Dustin Vaughan, linebacker Keith Smith, linebacker James Anderson, tackle Doug Free, tackle Donald Hawkins, defensive end Kenneth Boatright and defensive tackle Terrell McClain were ruled inactive for Sunday's divisional playoff game at Green Bay.
Barry Church
News
Lions wide receiver Golden Tate responded Thursday to comments from Cowboys safety Barry Church, who vowed revenge for a blindside hit Tate had on Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee in 2012 when Tate played for Seattle.

"Man, I don't know this guy," Tate said Thursday, per ESPN. "I just now heard of him yesterday from this incident. He's trying to get on the scene, I guess. We'll see."

Church said Wednesday that Tate's hit "was the dirtiest shot I've ever seen." The hit led to a $21,000 fine for Tate, who hit Lee in the chest and chin with the crown of his helmet.

"We were talking about it on the way back from Washington, me and Sean," Church said. "He was just like, 'Man, I wish I could play so bad in this game just to give a little payback for what he did in Seattle.'

"Obviously he can't play, but we're definitely going to keep our radar out for [Tate] because that was a dirty shot. We're looking forward to seeing him. We'll definitely get him back after that, but it will be within the rules, within the rules."

James Hanna
News
Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens (ankle), linebacker Rolando McClain (knee, concussion), defensive end Jeremy Mincey (concussion), linebacker Bruce Carter (knee), tight James Hanna (knee), defensive tackle Nick Hayden (shoulder), safety Jeff Heath (thumb), guard Zack Martin (ankle), running back DeMarco Murray (hand) and quarterback Tony Romo (back) were cleared to play for Sunday's divisional playoff game at Green Bay.

Hitchens, McClain and Mincey were listed as questionable, while the remaining players were all considered probable.

Darren McFadden
News
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has declared that the presence of Darren McFadden is the reason his team did not draft a running back despite having lost stud DeMarco Murray to the rival Eagles.

McFadden signed a two-year deal with Dallas. It calls for just $200,000 in guaranteed money, but could be worth as much as $5.85 million, per ESPN.

The scatback has been a disappointment in the NFL. In seven years with Oakland, he exceeded 1,000 yards rushing just once and has 25 touchdowns. He has not averaged more than 3.4 yards per carry since 2011, but the change of scenery and far better surrounding offensive talent could give his career a jump-start.

At least Jones believes so.

"McFadden made a big difference here," he said. "His availability - make no bones about it - we didn't know that McFadden was going to be available when we initially started to think about this year and in our decision regarding that. ... It might have been a little different story had we not had McFadden on our roster in this draft."

Jack Crawford
News
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is probable heading into Thursday's game against the Eagles.

Romo was listed with a back injury, but was able to practice in full on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Josh Brent, Tyrone Crawford, Doug Free, Nick Hayden, Rolando McClain and Terrance Williams were also listed as probable, and should play.

The team did not list any players as questionable, though Jeff Heath was listed as doubtful.

Jack Crawford, Tyler Patmon and Dekoda Watson were all ruled out prior to Thursday.

Gavin Escobar
News
A trio of Cowboys receivers pitched in with minor contributions in a Week 10 victory over Jacksonville. Tight end Gavin Escobar caught one pass for 14 yards, wideout Cole Beasley snagged another for 11 yards and running back Lance Dunbar caught two for seven yards.

Also working his way into the score sheet was backup quarterback Brandon Weeden, who completed his only pass for eight yards.

Dallas is now on its bye week.

Lucky Whitehead
News
Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory returned to the practice field on Saturday, after leaving Friday's OTA practice early.

Gregory, the team's second-round draft pick, battled dehydration on the first day of practice, per ESPN.

Third-round tackle Chaz Green and undrafted wide receiver Lucky Whitehead also returned to the field after they couldn't complete Friday's practice.

Travis Frederick
News
Cowboys center Travis Frederick is hoping to make things easier for quarterback Tony Romo this season, reports ESPN.

Part of Romo's responsibility is setting the protections with calling out the middle linebacker. The offensive line follows the assignment. If Frederick can take that responsibility away from Romo, then Romo can worry more about the coverage.

"I'm going to try and do as much as I can to take as much as I can off Tony that he was doing before for the offensive line," Frederick said. 'Not necessarily because I was a rookie or this or that, but because, if I can see it better, that's going to take one thing off his plate and that's going to help the team as a whole."

Tyron Smith
News
Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith restructured his contract Monday, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The move created an additional $8.16 million in salary cap space for the Cowboys. The team converted $10.2 million of his $11.039 million base salary in 2015 into a signing bonus.

The 24-year-old left tackle is entering his fifth season with the Cowboys after being selected in the first round of the 2011 draft. He is a two-time Pro Bowler and was named First-team All-Pro in 2014.

Clutts joined the team late in 2013 and was the Cowboys' only fullback during the 2014 season. After his contract expired, the Cowboys brought in Jed Collins, who spent last year with the Lions.

By bringing Clutts back, the Cowboys released Collins. Clutts will likely be Dallas' starting fullback again.

Clutts caught his first NFL touchdown pass in the playoffs during Dallas' loss to the Packers.

Terrell McClain
News

Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams had one catch for 38 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' 26-21 loss to the Packers Sunday in the divisional round of the playoffs.

On 2nd and 7, quarterback Tony Romo connected with Williams who cut twice before finding the end zone for a touchdown.

It was Williams second consecutive game with at least one touchdown. He finishes the postseason with four receptions, three of which went for scores.

Nick Hayden
News
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett made it a point of emphasis to mention to reporters at the NFL Meetings that re-signing defensive lineman Nick Hayden was important, reports the Dallas Morning News.

“Well, we’re always trying to get better and we have to get better,’’ Garrett said. “We have to bring some impact players into our defense. But Nick has been such a good player for us as a leader of that defensive line and he’s a really productive player. There’s a lot of the dirty work but he’s one of those guys who makes a lot of hits on the ball, is around the football a lot and simply makes a lot of plays.

"That was an important signing for us.’’

Hayden has started all 16 games with the Cowboys for two consecutive seasons. Over his seven-year career, he has 135 total tackles, two sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Jeremy Mincey
News
Cowboys defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey knows that the team will likely draft linemen to compete with him in training camp. He welcomes it.

"The more the merrier," Mincey said, per the Dallas Morning News. "We’ve got enough veteran leadership and presence to help mold these guys and bring the greatness out of them. That’s all I’m about, just bringing the best out of people."

In addition to mentoring any rookies the Cowboys add, Mincy is busy sculpting his physique. He's currently at 280 pounds, 20 pounds lighter than last season. He hopes to drop another 15.

"As you noticed last year I started getting a lot better after six, seven games because I was shedding so much weight," he said. "This season I’m going to start in front of the eight ball instead of behind it."

Joseph Randle
News
The Cowboys have far more to consider than talent on the field in regard to the possible featured back status of Joseph Randle.

Randle could earn that distinction with DeMarco Murray gone, but his recent arrests on shoplifting and drug charges have given the team much more to think about.

"I think Joe really has to make sure he takes care of everything on and off the field," running backs coach Gary Brown told the Dallas Morning News. "We want to trust Joe, we like Joe, but we want to make sure he's going to be with us at all times.

"I think he's maturing up and he's getting better and he understands the opportunity he has in front of him and I think he'll take full advantage. I think those days are behind him and we're looking forward to working with Joe. ... He and I have sat down and had one-on-one conversations about his future and I think he wants to go in the right direction."

The Cowboys announced they will not pick up the fifth-year option on cornerback Morris Claiborne, making him a free agent after this season, per ProFootballTalk.com.

Having grown up in Carrolton, Texas, Russell held out hope that the Cowboys would select him. His wish became a reality when the Cowboys drafted him in the fifth round on Saturday.

"Every time the Cowboys (came up), I was like, 'Please, call me,' and my phone finally rang," Russell said, via ESPN.com

Though Russell had a home state connection with the Cowboys, the organization was brutally honest with him through the pre-draft process. In meetings, they explained what he did well and what he needs to improve on at the next levl.

"There were times where my get-offs weren't quite the same or my hand placement and my techniques get sloppy," Russell said. "So just cleaning those things up and playing one play at a time consistently and at a high level. Those are the things that I needed to work on."

“If it says ‘linebacker’ behind the position, I think he’s going to be okay,” Cowboys linebackers coach Matt Eberflus said of Lee. “I think that, like I said, we’ll tie all these guys together and see how they fit. And we’ll find the best position for them…. Sean’s uniqueness in his ability, like a few other guys that we’ve had, he’s able to play all positions. He can really play all positions. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo didn't need back surgery this offseason, the first time in three years he's avoided a procedure.

The 35-year-old Romo credits the team's improved defensive line, which limited the number of hits on him last year and could help prolong his career.

"When you have a good offensive line like we do, the thought definitely crosses your mind to ensure you do everything possible to play longer than maybe what you had envisioned," Romo said, per NFL.com. "We’ll reassess that in a few years. My wife will tell you, I’m talking a little more long term than I maybe had been. So we’ll see."

Carr has refused to discuss his contract status publicly and Jones said restructuring the deal remains a priority.

"All of the contracts that we don't have closure on are a priority," Jones said. "He certainly is a player who is in our top consideration. So yeah, I'd say that's a priority. We want him on the football field."

Dustin Vaughan
News
Although the Cowboys are reportedly pleased with Brandon Weeden, coach Jason Garrett told reporters he's still leaving the door open to adding a veteran this offseason, per ESPN.

Weeden, 31, is entering the final year of his contract. Last season, he passed for 303 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions while filling in for Romo when he was sidelined with two transverse process fractures. Dustin Vaughan, an undrafted free agent in 2014, was also active for one game last season.

"You're always trying to upgrade your football team," Garrett said. "Obviously, we feel really good about Tony. He had an outstanding year for us last year. Brandon did a really nice job in his opportunities. If you look at what he did -- he played in (four) games, (three) he came in relief for us and the one game he started we didn't play our best game on offense. But it was against a really good defensive team in Arizona. We still feel like he's a young player who needs to play more. He's really growing before our eyes.

"We like what Dustin Vaughn did in the preseason. He is a smart kid. He is really conscientious. He wants to be a good football player and works very hard at it. He's one of those guys, too, a young player and you can see him get better with every rep that he gets. He is going about it the right way. We think he's got a future."
