Brian Waters
News
The Cowboys made it official Saturday as they moved guard Brian Waters to injured reserve, ending his season, ESPN reports. Dallas has moved Micah Pellerin to the active roster to take Waters' place.
Ahmad Dixon
News
With the 248th overall pick in the draft, the Cowboys continued to stock up on defenders, selecting defensive back Ahmad Dixon out of Baylor.
Barry Church
News
Twelve Cowboys suffered hamstring injuries of varying severity in 2013, reports ESPN.com. The list consisted of Miles Austin, Morris Claiborne, Sean Lee, Justin Durant, Dwayne Harris, Bruce Carter, Danny McCray, Barry Church, Dez Bryant, Lance Dunbar, Gavin Escobar and Terrance Williams.

Coach Jason Garrett is looking at other teams' approaches to find a solution. He might cut back the time players spend on the field early in the offseason, the report said.

“It is valuable to do the football stuff. We don’t feel like there’s a lot of football stuff right now,” Garrett told the website. “We want to be careful about how much we take away from that. But there’s a couple weeks prior to all that stuff starting. We’ve talked about tweaking the daily schedule and what we’re doing those first couple weeks as we start to lay the foundation for the offseason.”

James Hanna
News
Several Cowboys contributed offensively Week 14 at Chicago. Among them, tight end Gavin Escobar caught both his targets for 32 yards and wideout Miles Austin caught two of four targets for 19 yards. Tight end James Hanna had a 6-yard reception.

They'll play the Packers in Week 15.

Caleb Hanie
News
New Cowboys quarterback Caleb Hanie hails from Forney, Tex., and grew up rooting for the team.

"It's a blessing," Hanie told ESPNDallas. "It's surreal. A little big, it's a childhood team. You dream about playing (for the Cowboys)."

The Cowboys signed Hanie because they aren't sure whether Kyle Orton will return for the 2014 season. Tony Romo is rehabbing from back surgery. If Orton comes back, Brandon Weeden likely would be the No. 3 QB ahead of Hanie.

Gavin Escobar
News
Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar didn't practice Monday with a sore back. ESPN reports he sat out because of that, not because of a knee issue from last week's practice.
Injury
Back - Probable for start of training camp
Bruce Carter

We’ve talked about tweaking the daily schedule and what we’re doing those first couple weeks as we start to lay the foundation for the offseason.”

Travis Frederick
News
Cowboys center Travis Frederick is hoping to make things easier for quarterback Tony Romo this season, reports ESPN.

Part of Romo's responsibility is setting the protections with calling out the middle linebacker. The offensive line follows the assignment. If Frederick can take that responsibility away from Romo, then Romo can worry more about the coverage.

"I'm going to try and do as much as I can to take as much as I can off Tony that he was doing before for the offensive line," Frederick said. 'Not necessarily because I was a rookie or this or that, but because, if I can see it better, that's going to take one thing off his plate and that's going to help the team as a whole."

Tyron Smith
News
The Cowboys have exercised their fifth-year option on left tackle Tyron Smith, ESPN reported. He's now slated to be a free agent following the 2015 season.

Linebacker Orie Lemon re-signed with the team after being cut last week.

News
Cowboys WR Cole Beasley, WR Miles Austin and FB Tyler Clutts did little Week 16.

Beasley caught two passes for 29 yards. He was targeted just two times. Austin caught one pass for 8 yards. Clutts picked up 4 yards on one target.

Matt Johnson
News
The Cowboys have placed safety Matt Johnson on injured reserve with a foot injury suffered Aug. 4, ESPN reports.

Johnson is out for the season in 2013. A fourth-round pick in 2012, Johnson did not play in a game last season due to hamstring issues. This is the second time in two seasons he's been placed on IR.
Phillip Tanner
News
The Cowboys won't offer a $1.389 million tender to restricted free agent running back Phillip Tanner, making him an unrestricted free agent, reports the Dallas Morning News. Tanner signed with Dallas in 2011 as an undrafted free agent and has been a special teams contributor and backup running back.

News
Cowboys receivers coach Derek Dooley has been impressed with what Terrance Williams "has been able to do with more work" this offseason, reports ESPN.com. Williams has the tools to be a 1,000-yard receiver, according to the website, though the Cowboys just need him to fit in.

Williams projects to start opposite Dez Bryant after catching 44 balls for 736 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie.

LaRon Byrd
News
The Cowboys have signed free agent LaRon Byrd, formerly with the Cardinals. Byrd has one catch in four games over two seasons.

Henry Melton
News
Cowboys defensive tackle Henry Melton, who's rehabbing a torn ACL, said he expects to be ready for the start of training camp, reports ESPN.com.

"I think you’ve got to be smart about guys like that,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told the website. "Obviously Henry’s a pro. He’s been to the Pro Bowl. He knows how to play the game. He’s also coming off a significant injury. I think everything our doctors say is he’s right on time."

Injury
Knee - Questionable for start of training camp
Caesar Rayford
News
The Cowboys cut linebacker Caesar Rayford, who made five tackles in seven games.
Cameron Lawrence
News
Cornerback Sterling Moore, who has earned some playing time with New England and Dallas, has been cut by the Cowboys. Moore played in five games in both 2011 and 2012. Another significant cut by the team is wide receiver Anthony Armstrong, who has 54 career catches.

Others waived by Dallas are the following: quarterback Alex Tanney, tackles Demetress Bell and Edawn Coughman, defensive backs Micah Pellerin, Xavier Brewer and Jakar Hamilton, linebackers Brandon McGee, Cameron Lawrence, Caleb McSurdy and Taylor Reed, running back Kendial Lawrence, defensive tackle Jerome Long, defensive ends Thaddeus Gibson and Jabari Fletcher, guard Ray Dominguez, wide receivers Tim Benford and Danny Coale, defensive lineman Jason Vega and center Kevin Kowalski

Jon Kitna
News
The Cowboys are expected to sign Jon Kitna as their third quarterback, reports the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Kitna, 41, played for the Cowboys from 2009-11 and was out of football last year.
Kyle Wilber
News
Cowboys linebacker Kyle Wilber moved to defensive end in two-minute drills on Monday, showing he can work on the line of scrimmage as well as dropping into coverage. ESPN said he held his own in practice.
Everette Brown
News
The Cowboys are expected to release defensive end Everette Brown, defensive tackle Corvey Irvin, guard Jeff Olson and guard Ray Dominguez, reports ESPN.

All the cuts are considered salary-cap moves to save money.

Lance Dunbar
News
The Cowboys plan to use running back Lance Dunbar in a variety of ways, reports FOX Sports.

"Well, he's a guy that's going to be a complete weapon. We can line him up anywhere on the team -- tailback spot, at the wide receiver spot, in the slot. He has tremendous hands and he's just not a specialty guy. He could play tailback if you need him to go out there and give you 15 or 20 carries. He's that type of kid," Dallas running backs coach Gary Brown said. "He brings a whole different dimension, a whole different vibe in our room as far as what he does and we're looking forward to using him as a weapon as well."

Brown compared Dunbar, who is expected to be No. 2 on the depth chart behind DeMarco Murray, to Danny Woodhead and Darren Sproles.

"Everybody would like to have a guy like Dunbar. You look at the Sproles type guy. You look at guys around the league like Woodhead from San Diego. They all have them," Brown said. "Not everybody has them but we all want them. Once you find one, you've got to find things for him to do and you've got to make sure that he's involved in the gameplan."

Anthony Spencer
News
Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer could begin the season on the physically unable to perform list as he continues to rehab from microfracture surgery on his left knee, reports the Dallas Morning News.

"We’re eyes wide open on this,” Stephen Jones, the club’s executive vice president, told the paper. "I won’t be totally surprised if he starts the season on PUP. Anthony thinks he might be back. I hope he does. We came into this knowing that he could be a PUP guy."

Spencer said it's possible he'll return toward the end of training camp.

Injury

Jamar Newsome
News
The Cowboys re-signed guard Ray Dominguez and wideout Jamar Newsome to their practice squad after releasing them Saturday.
Dan Bailey
News
Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey, who just signed a seven-year, $22.5 million deal, said the contract won't put extra pressure on him.

“I don’t think it changes too much,” Bailey told ESPN.com. “You’re only as good as your last kick. That’s the nature of the league. You have to bring your ‘A’ game every day to practice, to the game, even off the field. You’ve got to do the right things. I don’t think it’ll have too much of an impact. I think I take pride on being mentally strong enough to put that on the back burner and focus on the task at hand.”

Bailey hit 28 of 30 field goals this season, including 6 of 7 from 50-plus yards.

Webb and defensive back Jakar Hamilton.
Mackenzy Bernadeau

Webb and defensive back Jakar Hamilton.
Dez Bryant
News
The Cowboys view receiver Dez Bryant as "the glue to this offense," reports ESPN. Now the team has to decide how much to pay him, which could be in the neighborhood of $12 to $14 million a year.

Bryant said he's not worried about his contract, and will monitor things from afar. He just wants to go out and play better than last season when he had 93 catches for 1,233 yards with 13 touchdowns and 67 plays that resulted in first downs.

"To be honest, I really don't think about it," Bryant said. "I love the game. I don't think about the numbers. Whatever happens, happens. All I know is I'm confident in the work that I put in. I know if I continue to keep working hard and get the other guys to work hard, it's always going to be a good result. It's always positive when it comes out at the end."

The report also adds that Bryant is becoming more of a student of the game than ever before. Before he was just watching film, now he's going to analyze it more. He sees how defenses disguise coverages -- showing one thing and switching to something else at the last minute.

"I'm understanding it better and better the more that I watch it," he said. "Not saying I haven't. It's just becoming a lot easier to OK, on this coverage this is what I'm going to do versus this coverage. It just makes things a little bit more easier the more that I get older and grow in this offense."

Dwayne Harris

Cowboys receiver Dwayne Harris participated in punt return drills on Monday but didn't take any offensive snaps, ESPN reports. Harris is expected to get pushed into a special-teams role after the team selected rookie Devin Street in May's draft.

Randle, who was not targeted in the passing game, will back up DeMarco Murray again Week 15 vs. Green Bay.

Sterling Moore
News
The Cowboys made a pair of roster moves Monday. The re-signed cornerback Sterling Moore and released tight end Andre Smith to clear a roster spot.
Ben Bass
News
Cowboys defensive lineman Ben Bass was placed on injured reserve Friday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. An MRI taken on Bass' dislocated shoulder showed that the injury was more severe than initially though. Rather than missing two to four weeks, Bass will now be sidelined for the remainder of the season as a result of the injury, which will likely require surgery.

Brandon Weeden
News
The Cowboys still don't know whether backup quarterback Kyle Orton will play this season. But Brandon Weeden said the uncertainty is not affecting his preparation.

"I’m going to go about my business the same way regardless. I haven’t met Kyle, so I can’t really speak on it, but whatever he decides to do – it’s kind of out of my control," Weeden told the team's website. "So what I’m worried about is, if I’m running with the twos out there, do my job to make the twos better. I want to make the team better any way I can, so it doesn’t change my mindset or the way I feel about it."

Weeden said his goal is to earn the backup job, regardless of whether Orton shows up.

Cowboys quarterback Kyle Orton did not show up for his scheduled physical Monday ahead of this week's mandatory minicamp, reports ESPN.com. Orton, 32, has been wavering on whether to continue playing.

Coach Jason Garrett has said he expects Orton at the minicamp. Brandon Weeden figures to be Dallas' backup quarterback if Orton calls it quits.

Tony Romo
News
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is expected to be ready for the start of training camp after back surgery last year, reports the Dallas Morning News.

And this year, compared to last season when he was also coming off a back procedure, he expects to be in better shape.

"Miles ahead of last year," Romo said of his conditioning now compared to last June. "I don't think they're comparable. I think last year I was just starting around this point so this year I've had whatever months to kind of get myself into feeling like I can go. Now it’s going to be more perfecting as opposed to just trying to hammer everything out in four weeks, three weeks."

Brandon Carr
News
Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr seemed to lose confidence after Detroit's Calvin Johnson lit him up for 14 catches, 329 yards and a touchdown Week 8, reports the Dallas Morning News. He finished with three intereceptions and 12 pass breakups, calling it a season he "wouldn't boast about."

"I'm my toughest critic and there are some things I wish I could've done differently," Carr told the paper. "I wish I would've trusted myself a little more on certain things. But it was an alright season for me. It wasn't my best season. It was a season that I wouldn't boast about. But it was definitely a humbling experience.

"It helped to motivate me in the off-season. It's more fuel to the fire."

Carr, 27, changed his offseason workout routine and "incorporated some different people" into the regimen.

"This year I feel stronger than the last six years, stronger than when I came out of college," Carr told the paper. "I'm learning my body and getting the functional strength so I can go out there and translate the weight room and everything I'm learning, as far as getting my body right, and putting it onto the field and putting it on film.

"This year, it's Year 7 for me and I feel like this is like the first day I stepped into the door. I'm feeling fresh, I got a bounce in my step, all the injuries have kind of died down and I'm just ready to play ball."

Over three seasons McClain has posted 246 total tackles over 41 games with 6.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble.
