Lions wide receiver Kris Durham was not able to make the best out of his targets during Saturday's contest against the Falcons in Week 16. Durham was targeted five times but caught just two passes for 32 yards, all of which came on the same drive in the second quarter of a 31-18 defeat.

Lions rookie defensive back Jonte Green recorded the first interception of his career Week 9 at Jacksonville. It came off quarterback Blaine Gabbert in the third quarter. Green also had five tackles, all solo, on the day.

Notable draft selections made by the Lions on Day 3 of the NFL draft include South Carolina defensive end Devin Taylor, Virginia Tech receiver Corey Fuller, Notre Dame running back Theo Riddick, Alabama tight end Michael Williams and FAMU linebacker Brandon Hepburn.

The Lions official team website reports that Detroit has signed running back Montell Owens, who was released by the Jaguars earlier this month. Owens is more of a fullback and special teams player than a tailback.

The Jaguars waived eight players to reduce their roster to 82 players, according to the Sports Xchange. Among the cuts was seventh-year cornerback Ashton Youboty, who was signed midseason in 2011 and started five games for Jacksonville's injury-ravaged secondary. Also waived were second-year players in wide receiver Chastin West and quarterback Nathan Enderle, three first-year players in linebacker Nate Bussey, running back DuJuan Harris and cornerback Mike Holmes and two rookies in offensive tackle Dan Hoch and linebacker Donovan Richard.

Lions defensive lineman Willie Young has been a standout player for Detroit this preseason. He has a sack, interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery in three preseason games, and is beginning to emerge in what is an already deep defensive line rotation. "He makes a lot of plays," head coach Jim Schwartz said, per MLive.com. "The biggest thing is just playing. It's one thing to make plays, but it's another thing to make plays you should make."

The Lions have signed defensive lineman Jason Jones according to his agent. He'll reunite with coach Jim Schwartz, who was on the Titans when they drafted him in 2008.

CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports the Lions are unsure if quarterback Matthew Stafford will be able to play Week 4 against the Vikings because of his muscle pull. The team is keeping its options open, but one source said Stafford is "one tough dude." If Stafford is out, then Shaun Hill will start at quarterback for Detroit. Coach Jim Schwartz did not comment on Stafford's MRI during his press conference Monday and said he will make a decision about his availability Friday.

The Lions have claimed quarterback Thad Lewis off waivers from the Browns.

Lions running back Stefan Logan barely made an impact during Saturday's contest against the Falcons in Week 16. Logan took a handoff for a 13-yard gain in the third quarter and caught a pass for 4-yard gain in the third quarter for his only production of the nifght.

Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said running back Jahvid Best could spend the 2013 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list if he is still not cleared to practice after suffering multiple concussions in the 2011 season. Best is still holding out hope that he can play football again.

Concussion - Questionable for 2013 season

The Lions re-signed Brian Robiskie, the Detroit Free-Press reports. The receiver was released last week.

The Lions announced cornerback Chris Greenwood (abdominal) will remain on the reserve/PUP list, so he will not play in 2012.

The Lions released wide receiver Lance Long on Friday to clear a spot on the active roster for tight end Shaun Chapas, who was promoted from the team's practice squad. Chapas will serve as depth at the position as starting tight end Brandon Pettigrew is unlikely to play in Week 15.

The Raiders waived defensive back Conroy Black on Wednesday.

Lions defensive end Ronnell Lewis was arrested on three misdemeanor complaints in Norman, Okla., ESPN reports. Public intoxication is among the complaints as is disturbing the peace and interfering with official procedure.

The release of Tony Scheffler could save the Lions over $2 million on the salary cap in 2013, Mlive.com reported Tuesday. He's set to enter the final year of his deal in 2013.

According to mlive.com, Lions president Tom Lewand said it is important to rework quarterback Matthew Stafford's current contract. Stafford has two more years remaining on his contract, and will earn a base salary of $12 million in 2013, but his salary cap hit is $20.3 million. He will earn $11 million in 2014 ($19.3 million salary cap number) and $15 million in 2015 ($17.7 million salary cap number). Despite the obvious need to free up cap space, Lewand said reworking Stafford's deal is essential because he wants the quarterback to remain in Detroit long-term. "Matthew Stafford is our quarterback, and we hope is our quarterback for a long time," Lewand said. "The reason to explore a contract extension with Matthew is to fulfill that goal of having him be our quarterback for a long time. It's not a short-term look at the salary cap. That's the wrong way to look at that. When you look at extending somebody like Matthew, he's not going to take less money to extend. That's a very short-term focus to look at. The reason to have an extension with Matthew, just like the reason to have the extension with Calvin last year, was to secure their services for a long period of time. In Calvin's case last year, the timing was a little bit different because we knew that there was an opportunity to get something done. But in Matthew's case, Matthew's got two years left on his deal. Calvin didn't. It's a different set of circumstances."

After the Lions released defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch to save some salary cap space, the veteran said he's thinking about retiring. Per the official team site, the squad saved $5 million from cutting 'KVB,' who had 3.5 sacks last year and 15.5 sacks over three seasons with the Lions. "I don't feel like I'm fully equipped to make that decision right now," he said. "But like I said, I'm just going to continue to work and if the right opportunity arises then I'll consider it."

The Detroit Free Press reports that Lions coach Jim Schwartz wants to see more consistency from running back Mikel Leshoure. Injuries -- he suffered a torn Achilles as a rookie and dealt with groin and hamstring problems last year -- have caused Leshoure to struggle from week to week with his performance. “You know, I think at times last year we saw the Leshoure that we drafted and then we were too inconsistent in other games and I think that’s probably the biggest thing,” Schwartz said. “I think his biggest room for improvement is consistency from week to week, whether it’s physical or else wise.”

Lions rookie linebacker Travis Lewis was on the field for Saturday’s preseason game against the Raiders, as he finished with one tackle in limited action after missing practice during the week with a quadriceps injury.

The Lions drafted three cornerbacks and three linebackers in April's draft, all of them with picks in Round 3 or later. The three cornerbacks are Louisiana-Lafayette's Dwight Bentley, Albion's Chris Greenwood and New Mexico State's Jonte Green. The linebackers are Oklahoma's Ronnell Lewis (who might play some defensive end), Temple's Tahir Whitehead and Oklahoma's Travis Lewis. Bentley's a tough, physical cornerback who might compete for a roster spot while Greenwood and Green's speed should help them land some work on special teams. Ronnell Lewis will definitely work on special teams and might move into a role as a pass rusher for the Lions as a defensive lineman while Travis Lewis is a tackling machine. Whitehead has good skills and can work in pass coverage as an outside linebacker.

The Lions claimed defensive back Pat Lee on Monday and waived Alphonso Smith.

Detroit placed LB Isaiah Ekejiuba (shoulder) on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season. Detroit confirmed the signing of CB Anthony Madison as Ekejiuba's replacement.

The Lions signed receiver Devin Thomas to a futures contract earlier this offseason. Thomas had left the Bears in August of last year, choosing to retire. He's obviously changed his mind.

The Detroit News reports Lions receiver Nate Burleson was able to practice during OTAs this week, which was a surprise. "I wasn't supposed to; I was told not to (practice)," said Burleson, who wasn't supposed to be back from leg surgery until July. "But it's like I always told you guys, if I can walk I can run, and if I can run I can play." Burleson took part in all the drills, including 7-on-7s. "It's as healed up as it's going to get," he said. "The good thing about being out there is I am playing at a high level and I am not 100 percent. When it gets stronger and I get endurance back in it, I will be back to playing with extreme confidence."

Leg - Probable for start of training camp

Glover Quin has signed a deal with the Lions, ESPN reported Wednesday. The cornerback-turned-free safety is expected to start right away for the Lions.

The Lions and defensive tackle C.J. Mosley have agreed to a two-year deal according to the official team website.

Lions defensive back Don Carey notched eight tackles, including two for a loss, during Detroit's 38-10 loss at Arizona in Week 15. Carey finished second on the team in tackles behind only linebacker Stephen Tulloch, who racked up 10 stops.

ESPN reports Lions rookie cornerback Darius Slay underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last Friday but is expected to be ready for the start of training camp. The night he was drafted Slay said he didn't think he needed surgery for a torn meniscus suffered during a March workout.

Lions wide receiver Mike Thomas was barely involved during Saturday's contest at home against the Falcons in Week 16. Thomas took an end-around for an 8-yard gain in the first quarter and caught a short, 5-yard pass in the third quarter for his only production of the night in a 31-18 defeat.

The Lions' official team website announced kicker Jason Hanson has retired after 21 seasons. Hanson, who turns 43 in June, nailed 32 of 36 fields goal last year en route to a career-high 134 points. He had said he'd only play for the Lions.

The Lions ended defensive lineman Nick Fairley's season Wednesday by placing him on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

Lions general manager Martin Mayhew was non-committal on defensive back Amari Spievey coming back to the team this season after suffering multiple concussions. "Yeah, I think it's just the total package of everything he's dealt with," Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said according to MLive.com. "He obviously was a good player for us when he was healthy, but we'll have to take a wait-and-see approach on that."

Detroit RB Maurice Morris netted only 13 yards on four carries during the Lions' 45-41 loss at Green Bay in Week 17. Morris finished with less than five attempts for the third time in the past four games as Detroit continues to favor airing the ball out on offense (502 passing yards).

Lions running back Joique Bell signed his exclusive-rights tender on Monday, ensuring he'll be on the team heading into the season. He'll be a restricted free agent in 2014.

The Lions and linebacker DeAndre Levy agreed on a multi-year extension according to the official team website.

The Lions signed receiver Micheal Spurlock on Tuesday. He has spent time in his career with Arizona, Tampa Bay, San Francisco, San Diego and Jacksonville and has 46 career catches for 494 yards and three touchdowns over seven seasons.

The Lions signed receiver Matt Willis, formerly of the Broncos.

The Dolphins waived the following players Saturday: DT Chas Alecxih, TE Les Brown, CB Marcus Brown, S Tyrell Johnson, CB Trenton Hughes, LB Josh Linam, RB Jerome Messam, DE Jacquies Smith and CB Jonathan Wade.

Brandon Pettigrew told the Lions' official team website he shed 10 pounds this offseason after being unhappy with what he did last year. He focused on eliminating drops and bad plays. Pettigrew caught just 59 passes on 101 targets for 567 yards (9.6 avg.) and three touchdowns. He was credited with eight drops.

It's only one OTA practice but Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has noticed rookie receiver Corey Fuller. "He’s got some speed, you know," Stafford told the official team website. "He went up and made a nice catch (Tuesday) on a high ball. He showed some athleticism there. I haven't worked with him a whole lot, but he’s got size, he’s got speed and pretty good hands. He’s an exciting prospect."

The Saints cut the following players on Friday: DE Braylon Broughton, LB Kadarron Anderson, LB Ezra Butler, WR Greg Camarillo, QB Sean Canfield, DE Alex Daniels, TE Michael Higgins, CB Nick Hixson, DB Jerico Nelson, TE Derek Schouman, WR Andy Tanner and LB Lawrence Wilson.

The Kansas City Chiefs filled one of their biggest needs with a massive gamble, selecting Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe with the No. 11 pick in the NFL draft. He was one of three defenders the team drafted: The other two were Alabama cornerback DeQuan Menzie and San Diego State defensive tackle Jerome Long.

The Lions placed defensive lineman Corey Williams (knee) on injured reserved Tuesday and re-signed Andre Fluellen.

Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh got to the quarterback for the second game in a row Saturday against the Falcons in Week 16. He recorded 0.5 sacks, while racking up four tackles -- one solo -- in a 31-18 loss.

The Lions announced that they have signed tight end Matt Veldman and released tight end Dominique Curry. Combined the two have zero regular-season NFL catches. 

The Lions announced Thursday cornerback Bill Bentley was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. He was replaced on the roster by safety Don Carey.

Calvin Johnson told the Detroit Free Press that he played with "a couple injuries" to his fingers last year but never disclosed they were broken. He was out with a thumb injury a few times last season and allegedly played through a concussion and nerve damage to his hand.

Lions defensive back John Wendling had a strong game in Week 2 against the 49ers, as he finished with nine tackles -- eight solo -- in a 27-19 loss. He very nearly earned a 15-yard penalty in the game, as he hit 49ers quarterback Alex Smith with a forearm to the helmet as he was sliding on a scramble. The hit left Smith with a cut on his nose, but Wendling avoided a penalty.

According to mlive.com, new Lions kicker David Akers is still not 100 percent with his groin injury from last year and hasn't been doing much kicking during organized team activities. He's following doctor's orders closely, taking his recovery slowly, to ensure he's ready to go by training camp.After attempting to play through the pain in 2012, Akers wants to prove he can bounce back and still be a top player at his position. For the first time in his career, he'll have the advantage of kicking in a dome for his home games, a nice change of pace from the swirling winds and occasional inclement conditions he dealt with in San Francisco and Philadelphia.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz is happy with how quickly rookie defensive end Ezekiel Ansah is learning the team's defense. "We don't have a real complex scheme for defensive line, but that's a relative term," Schwartz said. "You know, there's still a lot for rookies to have to go through and learn, and he's done a great job managing all of it. He's very serious about what he does, hard worker, you know, works hard both on and off the field. Just naturally has a knack for picking up the game, and he knocked down a pass (on Tuesday). He did some really good things."

The Texans cut a slew of players Monday to get down to 75 on their roster. Among the cuts were linebacker Omar Gaither, wide receiver Bryant Johnson, wide receiver Mario Louis, running back Davin Meggett, defensive end Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, fullback Derrell Smith and cornerback Torri Williams. Both Ra'Shon Harris and Greg Williams were also waived/injured.

Chris Houston has re-signed with the Lions on a five-year deal.

The Bucs, along with most of the NFL, made their final cuts on Saturday before the deadline. Among the casualties were RB Armando Allen Jr., S Ahmad Black, QB Rudy Carpenter, QB Jonathan Crompton, WR Ed Gant, TE Daniel Hardy, S Dominique Harris, LB Brandon Heath, LB Simoni Lawrence, RB Mossis Madu, DE Alex Magee, TE Nathan Overbay, WR Maurice Price (Injury Settlement), TE Ryan Purvis, FB/LB Nick Reveiz, K Jacob Rogers, LB Derrell Smith and DT Al Woods.

Lions running back Kevin Smith told MLive.com he's still not sure why he wasn't asked to contribute more in 2012. Smith started the team's first two games and faded into obscurity thereafter. "I didn't really see why (he did not play more). There was never an answer given as to why," Smith said. "I think I dealt with it like a professional, and in my mind, I would have been able to deal with it easier if there was something told to me like, 'Hey Kevin, you need to work on this.' ... In my eyes, I'll never look at it this way, but I guess I wasn't good enough on a 4-12 team, which is basically the gist of it. I guess the guys that were in front of me made enough plays to keep me on the bench."

With Brandon Pettigrew out again with an injury, Lions tight end Will Heller shared his reps with Tony Scheffler during Saturday's contest against the Falcons in Week 16. Heller caught four passes for 34 yards and was targeted seven times in a 31-18 defeat. Scheffler finished with four catches for 41 yards on six targets.

The Lions official team website reports that the biggest surprise of the offseason was receiver Ryan Broyles. Broyles participated fully in minicamp despite the fact that he's less than six months removed from ACL surgery. The report says "he wasn't just out there running around. He was making plays across the middle of the field and really looked good." Broyles is still not 100 percent, but "he is poised for a breakout season."

Knee - Probable for start of training camp

Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch posted one of his least-productive games of the season in Week 16 against the Falcons Saturday. He finished the game with just five tackles and no other stats in a 31-18 loss.

The Redskins continued trimming their roster Friday in preparation for the regular season and released the following players: quarterback Jonathan Crompton; running back Tristan Davis; defensive back Travon Bellamy; defensive linemen Doug Worthington and Delvin Johnson; linebacker Bryan Kehl; and wide receiver Terrence Austin. It was the second time Crompton was released this week after re-signing with the team Wednesday.

The Lions cleared roster space for recently added defensive back Drayton Florence by releasing fellow defensive back Ricardo Silva on Monday, according to The Sports Xchange. Silva suffered stingers during Detroit's final preseason game.

The Lions have released running back Devin Moore.

Lions safety Louis Delmas (knee) did not participate in the start of the team's minicamp and will not participate at all according to coach Jim Schwartz. "He has to be able to be patient enough to work through [his injury] and give it enough time to heal," Schwartz said. "And then you’ve got to take it as that comes, and you can’t get ahead of yourself. But Lou’s working hard. He’ll be back on the field for us sometime, but it’s not going to be this minicamp."

Knee - Questionable for start of training camp

The Lions placed running back Jerome Harrison on the reserve/non-football illness list. Harrison had surgery in October for a brain tumor, which was discovered after the Lions attempted to trade him to the Eagles.

The Detroit Free-Press reports that the Lions are hoping Reggie Bush gives them what they were missing when Jahvid Best (concussion) went down. “I definitely see an opportunity to be able to make an impact on this offense right away,” Bush said. “What they were able to do when they had Jahvid Best, they were able to do something special.” Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan says Bush can be a vital weapon that has been missing for so long. “Well, I think Reggie’s definitely going to add a dynamic to our offense,” Linehan said. “First of all, he gives us a running back that has produced in this league and really, in the last two years, done a really good job of just carrying the ball. He’s done it. You saw it even prior to his last stop (in New Orleans), he was doing a lot of the things you’ll see him do in our offense and be a dual-threat guy. He gives us a dynamic that, you know, a lot like what we got with Jahvid. It’s a little different, everybody’s different, but he definitely gives us a guy that can be an effective rusher and effective receiver.”

The Lions have claimed linebacker Cory Greenwood off waivers from the Chiefs.
